I want to write a review of Echoes of Wisdom, but I keep going into a tangent about where I think the game falls in the timeline. So, I'm going to write up my theory here and get it out of my system, because I have *~*~*OPINIONS*~*~* on this and I WILL BE HEARD.
Let's get one out of the way first before we delve deep into it.
I know that Nintendo doesn't really care about the timeline. Nintendo barely even cares about its own LORE. Even the basic stuff! There are literally the only two things every Zelda game has in common: the little gremlin named Link who wears a green tunic and the world's dumbest hat, and the quest to save the world from some evil force. That's it. Those are the only things! The Tri Force doesn't show up in every game. Ganon/Ganondorf doesn't show up in every game. ZELDA doesn't show up in every game! Hell, the Master Sword is only in, like, HALF of the games! So, yes , the canon timeline is nonsense but I'm going to play with it like the fun little toy it is.
Anyways... *pulls out conspiracy board* on to the fun stuff.
So, first and foremost, which branch of the timeline is Echoes of Wisdom on?
The Downfall Timeline.
How do we know this?
1) The map
Many parts of the map are copy-paste from the original ALttP/ALBW games. If you've played those games, you can find some fun Easter Eggs and stumble across side quests early by going to places from those earlier games. So, this game would take place in a similar Hyrule. And, as both these games are in the Downfall Timeline, it is the most logical choice.
2) Ganon
The Downfall Timeline is the only timeline that features exclusively Ganon (beast form Ganondorf).
hides Four Swords Adventures under the rug
THE ONLY ONE.
This is because, after successfully gathering the full Triforce with the Hero's defeat, Ganondorf fully transforms into the Demon King, leaving behind his human form entirely and taking on the name Ganon instead.
3) That stupid hat
Look, yes the old Game Theory Zelda Timeline video is kinda... stretching it at places, but the hat thing is a pattern. And one of the hats this Link has features a prominent, yellow stripe.
So now that we know WHICH timeline EoW is in, we need to figure out WHERE.
So the Downfall Timeline is split between three Heroes' eras:
The Hero of Legend (ALttP, LA, and OOA/OOS)
The New Hero of Hyrule (ALBW and TFH)
The Hero of Hyrule (LoZ and AoL)
why does the new hero of hyrule come before the hero of hyrule? idk your guess is as good as mine.
For simplicity's sake, I will be calling the eras Legend, New Hero, and Hyrule. We'll call EoW's era Echoes.
So the map is based off the Hyrule in Legend and New Hero. Hyrule's map has some things in common, but it's not nearly as similar. It makes the most sense to loop Echoes in with Legend and New Hero, putting it sometime BEFORE Hyrule.
Now the question is how before Hyrule? Is it before Legend, between it and New Hero, or after both of them?
The answer comes by taking a closer look at the similar land marks and temples on the map. In Legend and New Hero, the temples are in good condition. However, in Echoes, some of the temples are showing some wear. One of them is even broken down completely. With all that, it makes sense that it comes after both Legend and New Hero, but before Hyrule.
Another thing that lends credence to this theory is the Master Sword. The Master Sword is present in all three timelines, to varying degrees. In the Adult Timeline, Wind Waker Link stabbed Ganondorf with it and left the sword at the bottom of the ocean with the rest of Hyrule. In the Child Timeline, it's used by the heroes to challenge Ganondorf. kicks Four Swords Adventures back under the rug
However, its presence in the Downfall Timeline is weird. The Master Sword is present in both Legend and New Hero, but notably absent in Hyrule. Where did it go?
Well, if Null is as aware of the cycle of reincarnation as it implies (having specifically targeted children to catch the hero and princess before they could challenge it), then it stands to reason it would know about the Master Sword, too. And if it nommed the Master Sword with a rift, that would easily explain why the sword is no longer present in the Downfall Timeline.
So that concludes my theorizing on the location of Echoes of Wisdom's location in the timeline. Now that that's out of the way, I can actually write my review of the game without worrying about this tangent.
(side note: for the purposes of Links Meet AUs, I think it's perfectly acceptable to combine this Link and Zelda into another era. The Hero of Legend era is the funniest and my personal preference, but the New Hero of Hyrule era would probably be easier writing-wise.)
#loz#legend of zelda#eow#echoes of wisdom#loz timeline#zelda#link#star*speaks#i cannot stop thinking about this#save me from this self-made hell#sorry for the four swords adventures abuse#i haven't played the game but i read its manga and it's one of the best zelda manga#but its place in the timeline makes NO GODDAMN SENSE#so i have elected to ignore it for my own sanity

Besides Zelda, what are some other video games you are into? What other fandoms are you in?
Dearest Anonymous,
Here are games who made the cut for my favorites games series of all time (excluding LoZ my no1 fav!)
My taste varies from rpgs to sci fi action, to survival horror, to text base. I particularly enjoy story driven single player games...and I think my pic is a clear example of my obsession for the "the power of love triumph's over evil" trope haha
The original Mass Effect Trilogy: My ultimate power fantasy. I wish I was Commander Shepard IRL. Without going into details, that game series pretty much saved my life.
Dragon Age Origins: I am still hunted by some of my moral choices.... also, Morrigan, my beloved 🥵 Special mention to The Witcher 3!
The Last of Us: Naughty God and their character writing.... Unpopular opinion, I adore both games but i prefer part 2 by far. The themes. The character nuances...a game that made me want to throw my controller away when I got to the final battle 😭💔
Horizon Zero Dawn / Forbidden West: Post-Apocalyptic Sci Fi open world reclaimed by nature where you fight robots...hmmm... reminds me of something....
Final Fantasy VIII: Not perfect from a long shot...so many thing doesnt make sense in the story, so many plot holes and broken game mechanics...BUT I DON'T CARE!! I LOVE THIS MESS!! And I adore Squall Leonheart's character design and it shows in the way I draw Link's hair....
Final Fantasy IX: Criminally underrated in my opinion. It's my favorite Final Fantasy. All the FF history easter eggs, the music, the environments. Beatrix is hot. Kuja is hot.
The Ace Attorney Series: So f****** ABSURD! This is japan humor at it's best. Calling a Parrot to the witness stand is one of the greatest video game moments ever 🤌 And I play with the mic. I love yelling OBJECTION in my DS mic!
Lunar 1 and 2: My heart warms just looking at those boxes... 🥹♥️The characters (designed by Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, the same artist who designed Evangelion's characters) the simple but charming story, the pixel art, the romances... and the game is surprisingly HARD!!! Man, i want to replay them right now. If you never heard of this JRPG and love stories about the power of true love, CHECK THIS OUT!!
As for my fandoms in general...hmmm...it would be quicker for me to list things i don't like than the opposite lol. But i am a HUGE science fiction nerd, you can think of the classic obvious franchises and go deeper.
I'm a Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan too and all the drama that was revealed after #MeToo broke my heart on multiple levels...but thats another story.
Cheeeers!

❤️ Romance in the Air ❤️
Time Elapsed (1): 1 hour, 3 minutes
Time Elapsed (2): 57 minutes
Program: Ibis Paint X
"You know, Zelda... There's something I've been meaning to talk to you about."
Happy Valentines Day :) This is my obligatory SS Zelink appreciation post.
Time for another headcanon ramble!!!
As one of my favorite LoZ games (and one I'm playing through right now), Skyward Sword just had to be what I posted on Valentine's Day! Link and Zelda in this game are so cute! They're practically canon, they even have a theme titled "Romance in the Air" (and no one can convince me the pun isn't intended).
It's pretty clear that, unlike most games, their relationship wasn't ambiguous. These first incarnations were childhood friends, and even before the world was at stake it seemed their bond was unbreakable. Their dynamic in general is amazing, and the chemistry that is somehow present within scenes without Link talking beyond dialogue options really goes to show how close the two are. It really makes me feel bad that they had to go through so much just to get that moment of calm back.
Near the beginning of the game, Zelda (somewhat timidly) asks Link to go fly through the clouds with her in celebration of his victory at the Wing Ceremony. While they're in the sky on the backs of their loftwings, Zelda mentions there's something she's been meaning to talk to Link about. But, of course, she gets ripped from the sky by a dark tornado just before she can finish her sentence. She never gets to finish, either, as when she lands she is plunged into a destiny she unknowingly set for herself eons ago. Both are sent on journeys of their own, ultimately leading to the reunion of the Triforce and the Hylia statue's return to the surface. It is there that Zelda tells Link she wants to stay in this land. Many people interpret Link's smile in response as an agreement. While I am one of those people, I also believe that Link had more to say afterword.
Throughout the events of Skyward Sword, it is very clear his initial motivations were to make sure Zelda was okay. Even if dismissed or further separated by Impa or Ghirahim, Link was willing to take up a sword and fight to reach her. And, in the end, his worst fears came true. Not only did Zelda have to seal herself away- potentially forever if he failed- but when he freed her, Ghirahim intervened and put Zelda's life on the line. Despite the severity of the situation, I don't think Link saw a goddess's soul about to revive the ancient king of demons. I think he saw his best friend, the girl he loved, in the midst of life or death.
In the end, when the two finally achieve the peace they've been traveling across the surface to grasp, there's a final post credits scene with them atop the descended Hylia statue. Link plays Ballad of the Goddess on Zelda's harp much like she did at the beginning, and they get to take in the hope of a new future over the horizon. With everything they'd been through up until then, what would be a better time to finish where they left off with their lives?
Anyway, that's where I'll leave the rambling for now. To be continued, more than likely.
Reblogging is fine, but please don't post this anywhere else without linking the original post. Thanks!

Tep Tons: Video Games (2024)
10: Minecraft Legitimately, a great game. Every now and then I'll return to it and it's just a good time, the grind can get pretty monotonous though. Best horror experience, would get annihilated by the Warden again.
9: Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus Everything I'd want from an RPG, and exactly what I'm looking for in a tactics game. Unfortunately pacing is really sluggish, in part because the controls and activations are kinda clunky. I'm excited for the sequel! Would replace my flesh with machine again.
8. 140 A short and sweet indie game. An abstract musical platformer with boss fights and a bumpin' soundtrack. Unfortunately Carlsen Games doesn't seem to have made any more games after this and Thoth. Would get slapped by giant blocks of static again.
7. Saints Row: The Third Few games have given me as much joyous mirth as this. It's one of those franchises where if you took elements from every game and mashed them into one, you'd have a perfect game. Would use the Penetrator again.
6. Redout 2 An improvement over the original in almost every way. The butt-clenching speed, the satisfying weight of the ships, the extensive customization, this is probably the game I'm most skilled at. The campaign is overlong and the music isn't quite as iconic as the first though. Would blow up from overheating again.
5. Portal 1 and 2 It's a twofer! Both are a delight. They're funny, spooky, clever, haunting, beautiful games. Unfortunately I haven't been able to fully experience the co-op, where apparently some real juicy puzzles are at. Would break the Aerial Faith Plates again.
4. Warframe A great game getting better and better with every update. I love the world, the story, the gameplay, the weapons, even Duviri! Probably #2 in the amount of time I've put into it. Unfortunately this is the game that killed any interest in game grinding I might've had. Would breathe Vay Hek's air again.
3. Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild The first LoZ game I'd actually played, and it was so delightful! It's a cozy world I found a lot of peace and relaxation in, even the combat was pleasing. Unfortunately while TotK expanded on it mechanically, it may as well have retconned everything else for the amount of impact BotW had on it. Would hunt Lynels again.
2. Starcraft 2 My favorite game of all time. I've been in love with this world since I was a wee lad, and my teens were dominated by SC2. Definitely the game I've sunk the most time into, especially co-op and campaigns. The gameplay is buttery smooth, and I'm terrible at it lol. Unfortunately you can see the campaign was too ambitious for the time/funding they were allowed, so the quality of animation, writing, and production take some dips, as well as some of the content added toward the end of development. Still, one of the only games to make me cry even today. Would give my life for Aiur again.
1. Undertale Again, legitimately a great game, the greatest game of all time. No meme, I adore this game and my favorite character unironically is Sans. I love a character with an otherworldly understanding of what's going on. It's been dissected to death so I won't harp on it, just know that everything about it is wonderful. Hot take though, Megalovania is totally overrated. Would eat the spaghetti again.

Lyris and her origins
(Left to right) Marie (11) and Lyris (17)
Explanation under the cut.
Lyris has not always been Lyris. She hasn't always had black hair and brown skin, and certainly hasn't always been a knight.
When she was first created by an 8 year-old Ace for a playground game, she was Marie. Marie was, essentially, a Linksona of a child that didn't know what that even was. I understood 3 things at the time: 1) I liked LoZ; 2) I didn't like using my legal name while playing in any capacity; and 3) I wanted to have fun while feeling strong.
Marie perfectly allowed for all of that. She was fun to be, and a year later, when I felt the call to write an actual story for the first time, she was natural for me to write about. Her story came easily to me, but very little of who she was remains in who she has become. The same can be said for her world and the story itself. She's quite literally 15 years old(creation to this post approximately). It happens.
If you look, you can practically circle most of the remaining traits: a girl; long hair; green eyes; left-handed; a sword; tunic-like clothing; boots; and elf ears. That's where the similarities end.
Lyris makes a choice. Marie was called.
Lyris's evil extended family is a minor concern and a subplot at best. Marie's older sister was her main villain.
Lyris is a knight in service to the royal family. Marie's royal status was hidden from her.
Lyris doesn't really deal with horses. Marie's inciting incident involves a special horse.
Lyris has barely, if ever, seen a fairy as of the start of book 1. Marie has a fairy friend named Pixie.
Lyris's world is full of ghosts. Marie doesn't think ghosts exist.
Lyris is very "I can handle this, thanks." Marie is a bit more of a damsel in distress.
At the end of the day, they fit the stories they were written into. Changing Marie's name to Lyris sparked a ton of changes to her character because she was no longer a copy of anyone or anything. The story no longer fit who she'd been. It was time to grow and grow she did.
That doesn't change the fact that Lyris is, at her core, a hero of courage in her own right. She was based on Link eons ago. It only stands to reason there are pieces of him left within her. Origins affect us all, good or bad.
She isn't, however, Link. That stopped being the case when I started to write about her at 9 years old.

For Linebeck 👀
2. Favorite canon thing about this character?
12. What's a headcanon you have for this character
For Ganondorf
7. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you like
25. What was your first impression of this character? How about now?
Linebeck:
2. Favorite canon thing about this character?
oooooh how do i pick… i love pretty much all canon information (within phantom hourglass) about him… i think for the past few months my favorite canon thing has to be his whole role in the final boss. phantom hourglass’ final boss makes me want to eat drywall (pos) and i’m obsessed with how linebeck plays into it and how it could be read as a further extension of his arc or a forced regression or… it’s just a really, really cool thing he’s involved in, and nothing else like it really happens in the rest of the series, and it’s like… hell yeah man go be the only non-villain character to be the final boss of a zelda game. at a certain point it stops being me purely enjoying canon and then starts being me having fun with piecing together anything that could even slightly stick and following every branching idea that starts with linebeck ending up as the final boss, and it’s all very fun.
12. What's a headcanon you have for this character
hmmmmm... as something i don't think i've clearly shared here, i think he really, really likes snakes. not to the degree at which he likes cats, but he loves all kinds of snakes. he knows about snakes and does research about snakes and picks up snakes out in the wild without first explaining that 1) he saw a snake and 2) it’s not venomous. linebeck’s a snake guy as well as a cat guy.
Ganondorf:
7. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you like
i suppose i really enjoy seeing people just… talk about him? about his motives and history, what they like about him, i like it when the fandom treats him as more than a one-dimensional villain, it’s not much but he’s honestly not a character i’m tooo invested in, so i just like seeing what the people who really like him do with him. i like when people make him a little silly, it feels like it’s done best with the person doing it really loves ganondorf.
25. What was your first impression of this character? How about now?
i honestly can’t quite remember what my first impression of ganondorf was; i started with the original legend of zelda, and a link between worlds was the first one i finished, so i was familiar with beast ganon before ganondorf, and likely saw ganondorf for the first time either in some youtube video or in a smash bros game. so i think my first impression was a sort of… oh neat he exists. no real strong feelings, played ocarina of time and og hyrule warriors and figured he was just neat. now, since i’ve been seeing more of what people who really like him have to say and generally engaging with him more as a character, he’s easily one of the most interesting loz characters and one i really want to learn to write in some way, since only recently i’ve really written him in earnest (as opposed to an incidental character or something).
Questions
#asks#bloobluebloo#salty talks#ganondorf#linebeck#loz#legend of zelda#i’m new to this whole liking ganondorf thing so im feeling around with how i feel abt him and theres a lot on here to read#a lot of my viewpoints on him have been def influenced by you. you do your spokesperson job well#with linebeck its kinda like we got the kernel of canon in the middle and then branching fractals of years of personal ideas and thoughts#abt him hes been lodged in my brain for YEARS it was really hard to pick a favorite canon thing bc i just see him on screen and cheer#but ive been losing it over bellumbeck for ages recently so i picked that#SORRY this took ages ty for the ask tho

1, 2, 11 for the fanfic new year’ asks.
1) Do you have a word-count goal for the upcoming year?
I wouldn’t say so, no. I have a general estimate for how much my word count will be in 2024 based on previous years. Every year except 2023 I consistently wrote over 100,000 words. I’m 2023 I wrote almost 40,000 words and it has been a slow, slow year.
2024 is going to be a busy year, yes, but I find I write most when I’m busy (not burnt out like I was this past year because especially towards the end I was but just busy). I’d say my estimate for 2024 is around or above 70,000 words.
2) Will you participate in any fandom exchanges or fic challenges, etc?
I normally don’t. Not for lack of want but for lack of inspiration or time. However, I did talk to you about (and now seems like a good time to ask the masses) potentially running a Dagcup week again. Using the original blog ( @dagcupweek ) and probably around the same time (June/July) as the last one if anyone would still be interested.
11) Would you like to try any new fanfic genres or tropes this year?
I never really know how to answer this question because I don’t feel like I actively search for new genres/tropes I just sort of stumble into them. I also don’t really know what is categorized as a genre/trope. Those are always hard to define for me.
However, as we were literally just talking about I will be playing BG3 this year and I feel like I will absolutely be writing fic based on that because I am already very attached to my Tav. I’ll probably end up making a different AO3 account for that though (maybe a tumblr blog too?) because I will have my voice and maybe even my face attached to my Tav because I plan on streaming my play through. Mainly so I don’t have to bother the people I talk too often ( **cough cough** you, @biblicallyaccuratecanine & @the-floral-skeleton **cough cough**) with too many messages about my play through.
So. . . I guess what I’m saying is does game based fanfic count? I’ve already written stuff for LOZ but it’s different because the main player character is an OC not a premade character.

🔥🗻Elemental Summoner🌪🌊
This is a Wizard/Sorceror specialised in the summoning and binding of elementals. This character is capable of summoning and binding at 9th level Wizard, but adding 3 levels of sorceror and the metamagic adept to get 5 sorcery points potentially allows for double-bindings and making them harder to resist.
The preferred sorcerous origin is storm sorcery as it unlocks the primordial language to ensure communication with the summons, and the tempestuous magic is useful for getting out of tricky situations.
My preferred Wizard school is Evocation as it is useful to keep active without endangering allies, though Conjuration makes for undoubtedly stronger summoner at high levels, and Divination can help with binding thanks to portent.
Binding Elementals
A problem with Planar Binding your own Conjured Elementals is that they'll rage when you start casting Planar Binding as casting a spell over more than 1 action uses concentration (PHB, pg. 202). The conjured Elemental will remain hostile when bound causing minor disobedience and potential danger. To circumvent this it would be best to get another wizard or druid to cast Conjure Elemental so they can concentrate while Planar Binding is cast and that way the elemental shouldn't become hostile, though it still is DM interpetation as to whether or not Planar Binding extending the summoning spell to be a non-concentration duration is brraking concentration. Unfortunately you cannot chain Planar Bindings on a conjured elemental, unless you cast it at a higher level each time, as it only extends the duration of the original spell and doesn't resest it.
The two main metamagics this character uses are Heightened Spell which gives binding targets disadvantage on their saving throw, and Twinned Spell which allows for Planar Binding to target 2 elementals at a time saving greatly on costs. Though when using Twinned Spell and upcasting Planar Binding for longer durations more sorcery points may be needed, I am unsure if there's a clear rule on if upcast spells are higher level spells, if they are then more sorceror levels would be needed to take full advantage of Planar Binding. Unfortunately, Extended Spell can't be used as it can only extend spells to a maximum of 1 day.
Interesting Possibilities
A really interesting possibility with a bound earth elemental is to use the Fabricate spell to construct a palisade on top of it, like a battle talus from LoZ: ToaK. This works best with a small race though as you want to really avoid encumbering the elemental. The palisade provides cover from attacks and dex saving throw spells, so playing a rock gnome would protect from most other dangers. Unfortunately there are no rules for such a structure in dnd 5e so you would need to homebrew it's AC and HP with your DM.
Also you can play this character as a druid instead of a wizard with the Mark of Warding Dwarf, as it provides magic circle and the Druid spell list has Planar Binding and Conjure Elemental.

1. The Legend of Zelda - The Minish Cap
2. Not including the ones on hiatus: Fate/Grand Order, Persona 1 (PSP), Crypt of the Necrodancer
3. The above. I’m not the fastest at progressing through a game.
4. If there are any, yeah! I’m definitelly trying to get 100% completion Not always successful but hey.
5. LoZ - Tears of the Kingdom, Kingdom Heartss 4 and Metroid Prime 4 (whenever THOSE happen)
6. Castlevania and Zelda
7. Assassin’s Creed. They lost me with Odyssey (ironic since I’m Greek) and Valhalla wasn’t quite enough to draw me back in. Sad because I fucking loved Origins. Underappreciated imo
8. TBH because I have no consoles, no time and no money on my own, I haven’t played much and mostly watched walkthrough. With that in mind, I want to look into Devil May Cry one of these days.
9. Shin Megami Tensei. Yes, I started with the SNES game. No, I never finished it but I regret nothing.
10. ALL OF THEM. God I WISH I owned a console.
11. That really depends on the game... I can’t project myself on a character anyway. I really can’t.
12. ...None. I can’t say I like someone above all else.
13. Bloody Tears
14. The Corridor from Aria of Sorrow
15. I use the notes app on my phone to keep track of what games I’m playing, what I’m watching, what I have completed, what I’ve downloaded etc.
16. I have replayed all of the ones I’ve completed (except Undertale but I won’t do that).
17. Plenty of them. A while back I lost all my save files and thus hours and hours of unfinished games. Most of them are Shin Megami Tensei titles. I’m especially bummed that I lost my Persona 2 Eternal Punishment one. I was in the final dungeon.
18. Oh my god um... (freaking out a bit there are so many options) The Library from Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night? The Gardens from Aria of Sorrow? The Chapel from Symphony of the Night? Literally every Metroidvania from IGA? And so many Zelda dungeons I can’t pick? Hollow Bastion? AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
19. I don’t really tend to go blind so... I guess Aria of Sorrow was that moment for me, though I already heard it was fantastic.
20. Nothing made me tense up as much as Gawain from Fate/Grand Order. That was THE “Holy Shit” moment. Everyone will warn you about Gawain but nothing actually preps you for Gawain.
21. I cheezed most of what Aria of Sorrow had to offer without even knowing what “cheezing” is.
22. Link’s Awakening. Made me cry in the bathroom five minutes before class.
23. That moment in Persona 2 Innocent Sin where Sumaru rises to the sky.
24. A lot of them but I let’s go with BioShock since I gushed about everything else. Oh, and Gris. That one’s gorgeous.
25. Had to grow on me...? I guess Fate/Grand Order? It’s a weird case because it employs a lot of different artists and they’re not trying to be uniform so it’s rather jarring before you get used to it.
26. Depends on the game.
27. ...ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME. Actually, I’ll go with the underappreciated. Digital Devil Saga 1.
28. I started Persona and Shin Megami Tensei from the very first games. Let me tell you how doing this shit with no guide was really fucking hard.
29. Multiple. A lot of shifting interests from my part.
30. Persona 1. Currently in the final dungeon, grinding.
31. I’d ask them what story they’re interested in playing, what hardware they have, if they want mindless fun or story, etc. Then I’ll suggest a title

Okay okay big ask - rate every loz game you’ve played (by stars or in order I don’t mind)
ok lets go!! i rated them on both story and gameplay seperately bc those r 2 different ratings in my mind lol. they're in the order i played them except aoc at the end bc it's not main-line. i also left out games i haven't finished yet (nes zelda, zelda II, ALBW)
OOT: gameplay 9/10 | story 1000000/10 video game of all time. i mean this with 100% sincerity playing oot was fundamental for me. gameplay gets 1 point off tho bc i vividly remember crying because i couldn't make the camera go where i wanted it to the first time i ever played it
MM: gameplay 7/10 | story 10/10 i think this game is a perfectly cohesive sequel to oot in basically every way possible. the navi thing makes me insane obviously but i won't dock a point for it because i understand narratively why the choice was made and like. it works. the only complaint i have with this game is that the gameplay itself was super difficult for me both now and when i was younger--not the dungeons specifically, but the timer being there and counting down in real time was so anxiety-inducing for me that it distracted from the story. I do actually like the timer from like an objective standpoint and i think it was really well-implemented i just can't enjoy it fully because of my own hangups lol
BOTW: gameplay 10/10 | story 1000/10 perfect game. i don't feel the need to elaborate. i genuinely think in like 10 years this game is going to be the modern-day oot in terms of industry influence
ALTTP: gameplay 8/10 | story 8/10 okay this is my first less-than-perfect story score and i want to make it clear that i am obsessed with the story of alttp ok. obsessed. but i can recognize that a lot of what i find great about this game comes from my own analysis and is. not actually super present in the source material. and it is the 3rd loz game ever released and. well. it shows. that being said i think of all the 2d games to play you should play this one
LINK'S AWAKENING: gameplay 6/10 | story 0/10 sorry i. did not like this game lol. too much retro-style gameplay and not enough interesting story to make up for it. i also vehemently hate platformers so the sidescrolling dungeon segments made me want to kms. the story also does not actually happen like. within the game's own canon bc it's all a dream so i couldn't bring myself to care. i never even beat this game bc the final boss pissed me off too much
TP: gameplay 8/10 | story 0/10 fuck this game. the story sucked. it was poorly written and disjointed, a huge mess thematically, and 90% of the non-dungeon gameplay felt like needless padding. i've said it before and i'll say it again: twilight princess was an oot remake written by people who did not understand ocarina of time and got all their information on the loz franchise from youtube videos with clickbait thumbnails entitled "10 DARK SECRETS nintendo doesn't want you to know!!!" that being said the motion controls were still better than sksw and it had some of the better dungeon designs in the franchise. fuck that fishing minigame tho
SKSW: gameplay 4/10 | story 10/10 ok to preface this i played the original wii version which is why the gameplay rating is so low. i would rather die than play through this game on my shitty old wii again holy shit. that being said the story was phenomenal and i'm really glad it got a remake with a functional control scheme so hopefully more people will see that
WW: gameplay 6/10 | story 9/10 this is a hard one for me. again i need you to understand that i played the gameboy version and therefore had to do the gameboy triforce hunt which is why the gameplay score is so low, but there were also some quality-of-life things like the hitbox sizes and some of the dungeon design that pissed me off a bit. as for the story, there are pieces of it that i could analyze obsessively for hours on end but there are also pieces that are kind of clunky to me in regards to the overall lore so it gets a less-than-perfect score lol
(bonus because it isn't really a main-line loz game) HWAOC: gameplay 8/10 | story 6/10 sigh. i want to like this game way more than i do. the gameplay is genuinely fun at times if a bit underwhelming compared to the game it takes its setting and characters from, but it never claimed to be a mainline game so i don't fault it too much for that. the story could be SO GOOD and there are some pockets of greatness in there (the sword-claiming scene, the scene where zelda's powers activate, general extra characterization of the champions, etc) but they just had to throw in some timeline fuckery and the most boring hot-topic-wannabe villain in the fucking world and ruin it for themselves. agh

HIIII I'm the video game anon!!! ah it just rained here yesterday heheh <3. I can do pc and I would be willing to invest in a console but it would take me some time to buy it :( but I would love some recs for consoles because I'm totally clueless.
I would love to play any game as long as it isn't solely about fighting like fortnite? but maybe I would play it too if you say it's good. I trust you. I'm basically a blank slate rn, but I love adventure games. I never played video games.Thank you for answering!!! 🥰 - c (my name)
hi c!!!!! ok lets go
GAMES ON PC
night in the woods: masterpiece.
spiritfarer: a cozy management game about dying (and grief)
undertale: masterpiece.
rime: another beautiful game about grief
portal 1 + 2: masterpiece!!!! SOOO FUNNY
horizon zero dawn: the fighting is SO fun! i love exploring the world and uncovering the secrets of the past. when all the pieces fall into place itll knock the wind out of you
yakuza series: you play as an ex-yakuza who adopts a child and beats people up, not because he wants to but bc they wont leave him and his daughter alone
skyrim: despite the memes its a very fun game to play NDNDKKDDKD
GAMES ON THE PS4
uncharted series: i LOVE the characters and how real their relationships feel, and the places you travel to in search of treasure are breathtaking
JOURNEY: I CANT BELIEVE I FORGOT TO MENTION JOURNEY. if you want beauty if you want catharsis. play journey. the art the music the narrative.......the tears i shed every time i play it my goodness
the last of us: its the zombie post-apocalypse! just dont play the sequel lol
the last guardian: puzzle game! a little boy befriends an injured creature and together they travel to where they need to go
final fantasy vii remake (or just the original): you play as a mean blond twink with a bigass sword and frequent headaches who gets dragged into a found family and fighting to save the dying planet!
final fantasy xv: the story is a goddamn mess and makes no sense but the characters. the bros.......you will feel emotions whether you want to or not
LEGEND OF ZELDA SERIES MY BELOVED (here i will give you the list in order of when they came out and what consoles they are available on. i wont include console versions before the wii, but for the most part the big titles have been ported to or remastered in HD for the more recent consoles)*
a link to the past: wii u and switch
ocarina of time:** wii u and 3ds
majoras mask: wii u and 3ds
wind waker: wii u (HD)
twilight princess: wii/wii u (HD)
skyward sword: wii/wii u, and coming to switch (HD) this month!
breath of the wild: wii u and switch!
*if you are considering buying a nintendo console (the wii u seems like the best choice atm, given how many titles are available on it), i suggest you wait just a bit longer! some people who work in the gaming industry are fairly certain that nintendo will port wind waker HD and twilight princess HD to the switch by the end of this year, meaning it may soon be possible to have all the games on the latest console!!!!!!!!!!
**in . my opinion. OOT is a bit overrated dbkdnflekdsnfkskdon but the game still presents many themes that have continually been used in later LOZ titles
you can also try to play these LOZ games on pc using an emulator, but im not the best person to be asking how to do that sndmdnkfkdkd
EDIT I COMPLETELY FORGOT TO GIVE YOU OTHER SWITCH TITLES AKDKDKDKDN:
ace attorney trilogy: i never expected a game about lawyers to be so much fun its so good!!!
luigis mansion: u play as luigi a man who is terrified of ghosts who explores haunted mansions mamma mia!!!!
pikmin 3 deluxe: my little men. my soldiers who go off to war every day. they have flowers on their head and they like to be thrown what more can i say
super mario odyssey: WAHOO!
mario games!!!! any mario game!!!!!! you can play them with siblings or friends!!!!!

Did you ever create a Playlist for your 3 acts fic? Like I know Barb is musical nerd in the first act and you had godsdamn abba running in the background while they were running away from angor in what wouls theoretically be the angor management arc but...curious if you follow an actual Playlist or is it just vibes?
Thank you so much for asking!! ♡(´⌣`ʃƪ)
It sort of depends in a sort of "What came first the chicken or the egg?" kind of way. As sometimes I'm inspired deeply by a song or a music piece for a certain situation or characters. Is the piece situationally appropriate? Character appropriate? Both? - I go into more detail about that here.
Take the Gimme Gimme Gimme (a Man After Midnight) not only is it appropriate (I believe) in terms of the lyrics, in which that man after midnight is most likely Strickler should he ever get his shit together (he will in the future), who is currently acting as their getaway driver while being chased by another Midnight man of a different sort (Angor). But also coincides with Barbara's love of musicals! Its very conceivable of her to have a CD soundtrack of the Mamma Mia musical (maybe even a remastered one at that). Sure it's played as a goof to alleviate the tension, but it also paves the way for other Mamma Mia moments that Barbara could have (The biggest one I'm excited for being The Winner Takes it All. Great potential for a future Walter and Barbara situation. or EVEN, Barbara contemplating her ex-husband James.)
Then there's the song the section is named after Roundabout. Which, is the goofy Jo Jo's Bizarre Adventure meme song, but also an incredibly good song when listened to in its entirety - and the lyrics feel incredibly fitting situationally, and leaning towards Strickler some. Not to mention the lyrics are incredibly telling in a Stricklake sort of way...
We the readers know that between the two of them it will be Strickler who remembers Barbara - and it foreshadows Barbara's own change as she starts to deviate from canon.
My plot dictates the music, and sometimes I'm dictated by the music, in a very "chicken or the egg" way haha. Sometimes I have songs set and ready put aside
For instance in ACT II when Nomura and Jim inevitably fight for Gunmar's amusement deep in the depths of the Darklands I know for a FACT I want to use Bizet's "Toreador" from the opera Carmen. As the fight is not only a show for Gunmar like watching a bull fight. But also, to the surprise of no one, Nomura will have a lot of association to Opera. So the piece will be not only situationally but also characteristically accurate. The real question might end up being, between Jim and Nomura, who is the bull? And could the bull be someone not even in the rink? (Gunmar).
What music pieces I have leading up to that is foggy and vague, I have other music pieces set aside, especially for Nomura, but it likewise depends on how the plot will evolve while I write it too! Maybe down the line I'll think of something I hadn't while planning and BAM there's a whole section based on the soundtrack to The Legend of Ocarina of Time or Twilight Princess or something lkgdlkfj (As to me, Jim as a lot of LoZ vibes musically, among others!)
Another one I have planned but am unsure what other music pieces will happen until I reach that point is the dreaded S3 Merlin scene where he tries to convince Jim to become a troll. In my own morbid humor (mainly to cope) I have set aside Neon Genesis Evangelion's "Cruel Angel's Thesis" cause 1 the song fucking slaps, 2 I couldn't stop associating Jim with Shinji when I watched that scene. Specifically the joke "Get in the fucking robot Shinji" Cue Jim and Shinji having a Bad Time Indeed™ ;w; (Don't worry, Merlin is planned to have an even WORSE time afterwards). (ง •̀ω•́)ง✧
And maybe that'll change!! I remember for ch15 I had originally planned on the song section to be Mitski's Crack Baby. As it felt VERY fitting for both Barbara and Walter. Not only for Barbara's memory loss, but also that changeling feeling of missing something that you're not entirely sure about.
And YET Samba Em Prelúdio felt hauntingly right to me, it was soft, delicate, the lyrics are tragic, and the way Vinicius de Moraes ,Maria Creuza, Toquinho sing it gives me goosebumps every time.
ANYWHO! I hope that helped answering your question!! Thank you so much for asking!! It really means a lot to me!! ヽ(o♡o)/

Alright, I think i’m done BOTW 2 spamming for today. Anywho, time for some thoughts in general!
1) I hated how the shrines in BOTW were so cold and dark compared to the bright and lively nature outside (I wish they had all looked like the Master Trials challenge where there were trees and stuff incorporated inside), so I hope if we’re forced to have dungeons they’ll be more like the Wind Waker ones. 2) I hope they don’t make us use the grappling hook or anything like in Wind Waker to move around the sky islands (I hated that mechanic). 3) I’m probably one of the few people who wanted less Zelda and more of the Champions in HWAOC since i’m only really attached to BOTW (and we saw a fair amount of Tetra in Wind Waker)/apparently Zelda’s been sidelined in all the other games, so i’m hoping in vain that we get more Champions material in BOTW 2. Also, Link could stand to have some more cutscenes centered around him as well (the few we got in some of the sidequests in BOTW were great). 4) I only really somewhat care about Riju and Sidon, so I won’t mind if the new gang gets sidelined in BOTW 2 (I still think Nintendo wasted the found family/band of brothers aspect on the dead characters--I love them so much and they’re all I want!! The problem is, they’re dead and I don’t really care all that much about their replacements!!! I dunno, maybe i’m hampered by the fact that I can replay the original champions’ memories whenever I want/read their diaries, but I can’t rewatch the new gang’s cutscenes AKA i’ve forgotten their characterization since they don’t talk to me much now that the game’s over). It’d be great if they have some weaving storylines in BOTW 2 that will get me more invested in them, but currently i’m not that interested. 5) Speaking of which, I know it’s 100% not going to happen, but goddang if I don’t want the Champions to have been returned to life. Nintendo totally squandered HWAOC by not making it a true prequel/canon to BOTW (the Champions Ballad confirmed that the Divine Beasts had trials in order to be synced to the champs, so the new gen use of them wouldn’t have happened without that + Mipha thought Link had changed in BOTW yet says in HWAOC that he hasn’t changed + some scenes like “Champion Revali’s Song” never happened at all/got replaced with alternative scenes that really changed some dynamics + basically all of Revali’s time-relative characterization from his diary/pre-100 years of solitude got thrown out + I feel like Daruk got totally sidelined), so i’m still craving that Champions content. Also, I feel like it’s totally unfair that Zelda came out of 100 years totally unaged while everyone else died. Life seems to really suck for people in the LoZ universe who aren’t chosen by divine powers. 6) They’d better keep it open world and non-linear. I can’t go back to being forced to backtrack/trudge through things, I just can’t. BOTW was everything i’ve ever dreamed about in a game (truly open world + non-linear + interactive + meaningful story + lots of outfits + beautiful landscapes) with Skyrim previously being the only thing that came close to what I wanted, so I really hope BOTW 2 doesn’t deviate too much from that. 7) I really liked Kass in BOTW, but im not sure what direction they’d go with him in BOTW 2/i’d be fine if he sat BOTW 2 out. I worked so hard to complete all his quests in BOTW so he’d go back home to his family, GODDANGIT, KASS. 8) Someone mentioned that since the first trailer had underground aspects, we’re probably going to be playing as Zelda with the Slate there, and I agree. They didn’t make a playable model for her in HWAOC for nothing. 9) I want to be able to stable the deer and bears and stuff, but I know that won’t happen. Being able to ride the moose and rhino things from the Hebra area probably won’t happen either, but I want to ride them!!! 10) I hope there’ll be at least a few new buildings and stuff in the towns/they’ve started construction on some areas in Central Hyrule, but I guess that’ll depend on how long it’s been in-universe since BOTW. Or maybe not, considering how there’s still Karson and Hudson even though Bolson retired from Bolson Construction--insta-towns like Tarrey Town could totally be feasible if they wanted! 11) I have one foot in the camp that believes there’ll be time shenanigans in BOTW 2. HWAOC totally threw me off with it being an alternate timeline, so i’m not sure whether we’re going to be experiencing that again or time travel itself, but I definitely won’t be surprised this time around if Nintendo goes that route again (and it would be super interesting to see the Link from 10,000 years ago). I’m not entirely convinced that the Link we see exploring the sky in the second trailer isn’t our Link, mainly because he seems to still have on the blue boxers from BOTW. 12) I also heard that maybe this will be the last LoZ game ever since something something Demise something Skyward Sword something something lore from games i’ve only vaguely looked into (i’ve only ever played BOTW --> Wind Waker --> HWAOC)??? If so, it kind of sucks that I came in just when they started making games with playstyles palatable to me (I had to look up every single thing when playing Wind Waker, but BOTW let me solve things according to MY logic/I missed being able to explore in HWAOC), but at least it’ll end on a super high note/I won’t experience later disappointment, I guess. If BOTW 2 involves breaking the reincarnation cycle for the Triforcers, I would be really surprised. (On a related note, Nintendo making Ganondorf good would also be a 100% shock to me, but it would be great to end on that as a subversion. Yes, I want them to bring back the semi-complicated Ganondorf from Wind Waker.) 13) I hope they don’t rush releasing it. I heard they pushed back BOTW originally (I got it in 2019), but it came out fantastic for it! I know COVID’s been affecting things, so I really hope they’re treating their staff right and are mindful of crunch. 14) I want even more outfits (there seem to be at least two new ones, if the variant of the Hylian Tunic crossed with Link’s Champion’s Tunic counts). Give me all the outfits!!! Also, I hope we get even more hair variations in addition to the hair down option (which is all i’ve ever wanted since I saw the mod that altered the Ancient Helmet). 15) I wonder if we’re going to get a bonus for having both BOTW and HWAOC save data. 16) I wonder if we’re going to be keeping the Champions’ skills. I’m going to miss being super overpowered, if not. 17) I hope Nintendo doesn’t cave in and make surfaces climbable in the rain. Having that limiter is more realistic and Link would otherwise be too overpowered with a super climbing ability. 18) I liked BOTW’s scattered music that got more noticeable in populated areas because it was fitting for the post-apocalyptical/nature aspect. Hearing your footsteps in an open field and the buzzing of insects was super nice and prevented me from getting music fatigue (which i’d probably experience since whenever I play BOTW it’s for 5-10 hours at a time). I hope Nintendo either keeps that or makes audio options. 19) I heard that BOTW 2 is going to be super dark or something, and i’m okay with dark, but not GRIMdark, so I hope it doesn’t go that far. From what we’ve seen in the second trailer it still looks beautiful, but I hope it doesn’t do that thing that some games do where after the midpoint/a certain story point all the scenery permanently changes to be dark and scary (that’ll seriously hamper post-game playability for me if so). 20) If they expand on the Zonai, that would be super cool! Doubly cool if the time travel shenanigans involve them/ancient Link being one! 21) I kind of want windstorms to be a weather feature. We had lightning, heat, and cold, but no wind! No, I don’t count the wind geysers and the occasional breeze in Tabantha. 22) I want a chest in my house to hold more weapons than just the gear mounts. BOTW only had enough mounts for the champions’ gear, but it also had rare items like the Kite Shield and Forest Dweller’s Sword that you can’t get anymore once you use them up! 23) I want to be able to stable my horses at my house. What’s the point of that little area if you can’t stable your horse there! 24) Speaking of Link’s house: where is Zelda going to live? If the castle’s not reconstructed, it’d be neat if Link adds an extension to his house for her. 25) I hope they open up part-time jobs (think Mabinogi) as an option to earn rupees. Having to hunt for Luminous Stone deposits or feed Trott to make money can be such a chore. I think some of BOTW’s minigames/sidequests might count as those, but those minigames were either frustrating if your goal is to earn money (since most of them cost money to play in the first place and the mechanics weren’t always easy), or didn’t earn that much in general. 26) I wonder if Kilton is going to have updated items since the monsters seem to have changed. 27) I want to be able to dive underwater (mainly so I can explore the beautiful reefs over at Lurelin). A dive meter like the one from Super Mario Sunshine would be cool. Also, it’d doubly be neat if you had a separate stamina wheel for swimming and could permanently upgrade your swim/diving stamina (the speed+ swimming items just consumed your stamina faster, which was a pain)! 28) It’s definitely too late for this, but it’s a shame that the Hylians have so many face/body/hair and outfit variations, but the Zora, Rito, and Gorons don’t. The Gerudo were kind of okay with the hair and body variations, but the other races seemed to have a serious copy-paste problem. I guess technically some of the more important NPCs (ones with quests/cutscene triggers) had different coloring, but they were severely lacking in clothing variation. Also, the only old Rito was the elder??? At least the Gorons and Zora had some old folks besides their leader walking around. Very weird, but I don’t think BOTW 2 can fix any of this. 29) I wonder how they’re going to do the final boss battle, considering how epic/cinematic the BOTW 2x battle was. What can top fighting (on horseback, no less) a giant, flaming boar made out of malice? 30) I wonder what the Yiga are going to be up to, considering how Ganondorf seems to be somewhat kicking in BOTW 2.
#in other words: BOTW 2 HYPE REAL#i'm still going to queue things so there'll probably another BOTW 2 glut from me in a few days bwaha#(and probably some general BOTW stuff because MAN am i hyped)#i'm so glad i got into BOTW in 2019 because there's been content for me every year since and i am Living#botw 2
