Go spend some time on male pattern baldness or male(AMAB) balding forums/subreddits and such. I did after realizing it is happening to me and the ammount of people who truly don't realize how BRUTALLY it tanks people's confidence and mental health is insane.
There's no cure to baldness by the way, and it can start at any time and there's no way to predict how fast or slow it will go. The only real working option is a daily pill that usually just halts it, but it can stop working or just slow it down or cause major side effects. To regrow you have to use a daily topical solution, or use a roller to wound your scalp. None of these are surefire by the way, and if you stop them you'll just lose your hair and whatever you regained. It's a daily involved thing that might not work and often at best just retains. The best drug, the one that occasionaly gives regrowth, also causes shedding at the start, and can have side effects from growing breasts to brain fog to EDsyfunction(sorry, censoring cause tumblr). Now, those are INCREDIBLY rare and almost never happen but it weighs heavily on the mind of those already spiraling.
But that's just background. What I'm here to talk about is the pure woe you'll see on those forums. People speak as though their lives are over, as though they've lost every chance of finding a woman(predominantly, there's a running idea in such places that women don't like bald men or like them less) or doing anything. You can read countless stories of people who describe that they no longer go outside, are now filled with anxiety and self-hate, have gone from extroverted to never showing their face. And some of these people are kids who lost their hair in high school or even before, or are holding as best they can to a very receded hairline and feel like there is nothing they can do.
And then there's something touched upon far less in those communities, but is important to bring up here; baldness and masculinity. There's the horror of knowing so much of society sees a bald guy as a very masculine guy, at seeing that the best advice for being hot and bald is "grow and beard and big muscles bro". Imagine now you're AMAB balding and nonbinary, or a trans woman who doesn't want to be on hormones.
Just genuinely take the time to look at those forums no matter who you are. Understand what these people go through, what I am currently going through. It is soul-crushing, spiraling, brutal. I have the dream of one day being like Brennan Lee Mulligan or Matt Mercer and starting to lose my hair made me feel like I could never. I felt like and still feel like I would have to be masculine, have to be a bro-y dude, have to look older than I was(I'm fuckin 22). It was the feeling that I could never dress feminine again, never present as a woman when I wanted to again, that I'd always be viewed as a bald guy before anything else.
This is an incredibly vulnerable post for me, and I hope it reaches you all as well in a kind and understanding mood. There's a tendency online for people to joke about baldness, to make fun of it, to treat it as a playfull silly thing but it fucking ruins lives, and it shouldn't. It happens to half the population's sort of bodies and very often. It should just be a neutral thing. You don't need long hair to be feminine, you don't need hair to be feminine. You don't need hair for anything. I guess I'm just saying in general that everyone should be kinder about balding, more understanding, and view it with as much import as they'd view the pixels between this sentence and the next. None at all, I mean.
And for those like me, very feminine guys who wanna keep that and don't want a beard and are terrified of balding, here's some names and I do hope others that see this will add more; Mr. Bruce (also in The Correspondents(band) Alex Ward in LA By Night Jason Carl in LA By Night Cecil Baldwin of Welcome To Night Vale Bob The Drag Queen RuPaul(in looks alone, I know about the whole fracking stuff but this post is about looks) tananasho on instagram Also your mannerisms and style of dress will convey femininity far more than your hair. Yea sure a front-on neutral shot of you may not and maybe you need makeup and stuff, and hell maybe a lot of people might reject you more but it'll just filter down to the people for you.
And to all you artists and writers and creatives; make more bald characters. Try it out. Feminine ones, masculine ones, all sorts. None of the copout nonhuman sort, just dudes and girls and mates and individuals who are all sorts of things and also bald. It might make a few of the people going through the various vortexes of pain that balding causes feel a bit better.
And to those noticing I did not adress female hair loss much here, that was intentional. I am AMAB and currently a nonbinary guy who goes by any pronouns but often likes to present as fem. I learned I was possibly losing my hair and lost two months of my life, no work or going or anything, to male hair loss forums and research and spiraling. Checking my hair twenty times a day, unable to sleep, unable to eat, unable to think. And my situation was NOT unique, but it also did not give me any experience or understanding of female hair loss and what AFAB people may go through with that, so I don't feel knowledgeable enough to speak on it. Also living with baldness WILL get easier and you will find something that works for it, by virtue of simply living with it. Things get easier with time.

Want stories featuring queer characters in fantasy, science fiction, or horror settings, where being queer is central to the character but not the only thing they have going on? Let me introduce you to my list of podcasts!
To start we have Welcome to Night Vale. You’ve likely heard of it thanks to the tumblr sexy man poll, or if you’re old school tumblr like I am. It’s a classic for a reason, it kicked off the fiction podcast renaissance and was queer from the jump.
Welcome to Night Vale is an episodic podcast taking the form of radio broadcasts from a strange desert town called Night Vale that appears to be in a parallel universe to ours. It follows the bizarre occurrences within the town and the oppressive government’s clumsy attempts to cover them up.
How is it queer? The show also follows the personal life of radio show host Cecil Palmer who met new-to-town scientist Carlos, and “fell in love instantly”. Not only are they now married, they’ve adopted a child together.
Alice Isn’t Dead
From the creators of Welcome to Night Vale, Alice Isn’t Dead is a horror fiction podcast that follows Keisha, a woman who became a long haul truck driver to go in search of the wife (Alice) she thought was dead, but discovered was alive. In the process she uncovers monsters lurking among us and a massive government conspiracy trying to hide the truth.
How is it queer? As stated, the inciting incident is that Keisha discovers that her wife is secretly alive.
Dimension 20: Fantasy High
A dungeons and dragons actual play show. This season is set in a 1980s John Hughes-esque fantasy high school called the Arthur Aguefort Adventuring Academy. It follows six high schoolers starting their first day of freshman year as they form their adventuring party and try to uncover the mystery of why girls at their school keep going missing.
How is it queer? Kristen Applebees is the cleric of the party, and most of her arc in the first season is based in the struggle between honoring her religious upbringing and the god that gave her her magic, and realizing she’s a lesbian. Fig Faeth (the bard of the group) does not have a romance arc in this season, however in season 2 she does end up in a romantic relationship with another woman, and much of her arc in that relationship is based around the insecurities hidden behind her rock and roll persona. Riz Gukgak (the rogue of the group) does not use the term asexual on screen, however it is clear in a conversation in season 2 where he discusses feeling awkward about not being horny when all his other friends are. He was later confirmed as asexual by dungeon master Brennan Lee Mulligan.
Dimension 20: The Unsleeping City
Another story with the same players as Fantasy High. This story takes place in a fantastical New York City where the waking world intersects with the world of dream and magic. The story follows six adventurers as they struggle to keep the two worlds in balance with each other, and prevent the big bad from ruining the world of dreams forever. It’s Brennan’s love letter to New York.
How is it queer? Pete Conlan (the sorcerer of the group) is a bit of a dirt bag drug dealer who is struggling to learn to take on the responsibility of being the voice for the dreams. He is also a trans man. His awakening into the magical New York occurs because his dad attempts to deadname him, and he uses his magic powers to fill his dad’s mouth with bubbles and blast him away.
Not Another D&D Podcast Campaign 1
This is another dungeons and dragons actual play set in a more traditional D&D world. It follows the story of three adventurers living in the shadows of the saviors of Bahumia that came before them. Only to realize one of those saviors might not have retired, and is up to no good. They will have to save Bahumia from one of its saviors.
How is it queer? Beverly Toegold The Fifth (Paladin of the group) is the fantasy equivalent of a Boy Scout and ends up in a romantic relationship with another boy from his troop. (They’re both meant to be 16 by the end of the campaign I believe.) Moonshine Cybin (the Druid of the group) is just generally horny for everyone and anyone that impresses her, but she does also spend her last night before the final battle hooking up with Hardwon’s (the third party member) sister in law.
Not Another D&D Podcast Campaign 2
This story is set in the world of Eldermourne which delves heavily into the aesthetic of gothic horror. It follows three adventurers as they go in search of a missing witch that will help them protect Eldermourne from the conflicting factions of gods and religious extremists each trying to take the world and remake it in the way that suits them.
How is it queer? A major thrust of the story is that Fia Boginya (the wizard and cleric multiclass of the group) once saved her dear friend Irina from execution, but they end up needing Irina’s magic to protect the world. The party goes in search of her, and Fia admits to having always been in love with Irina, even when they were just children.
The Adventure Zone: Balance
Another D&D actual play. This one is set in a fantasy world that draws heavily on both fantasy and other aesthetics. The three adventurers encounter an extremely powerful and destructive magical object, and manage to capture it. In doing so they are inducted into the organization called the Bureau of Balance, and are sent on missions to recover the other objects of power that have been scattered across the land. There is more to the characters than even they know.
How is it queer? Taako the Wizard (one of the adventurers) ends up in a romantic relationship with the Grim Reaper who in this world is a man. There is also a romantic relationship between two women who are also members of the Bureau of Balance that hangs out in the background of the story. A trans woman is also prevalent in the story, but explaining anything else about her reveals major spoilers for the campaign, but trust me she is narratively important.
The Adventure Zone: Amnesty
This is another actual play show, but it uses the Monster of the Week system that was created using shows like Scooby Doo, X-Files, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It is set in the fictional town of Kepler, West Virginia and the Monongahela National Forest. Cryptids are real and they all hang out in Kepler. Three friends band together to stop monsters with ill intent from destroying the town, and learn more about the world that parallels theirs. It is Dungeon Master Griffin McElroy’s love letter to the West Virginia town he and his brothers grew up in.
How is it queer? Aubrey Little is the magic user of the group and identifies as bisexual. She ends up in a romantic relationship with a vampire girl in town.
Campaign Skyjacks
It is another role playing game actual play. I’m not entirely clear on what system they are using, as a lot of it is the creation of the game master. It is set in a fantasy world where crossing the oceans has become too treacherous, so pirates, privateers, and sailors alike have all taken to the sky in airships. The story follows four crew members of the ship the Uhuru as they try to make the ship profitable all while trying to hide from the rest of the crew that the captain has long since died and the doctor has been puppet-ing his corpse for weeks now.
How is it queer? I am still in the early stages of the podcast so there may be more queer characters later, but off the bat there is Gable who is the quarter master of the ship. Gable is non-binary.
These are not the only podcasts that fit the bill, but these are the ones I listen to. I’d also like to give a special mention to most other seasons of Dimension 20. There are a ton more, and you’re likely to get at least one queer character per season. However, I wanted to keep it to things you could find for free. Fantasy High and The Unsleeping City are both free on YouTube, but all other Dimension 20 seasons are on the streaming service dropout tv (which I do recommend getting because they do a lot of other good shows too.)
Feel free to add more shows in your reblogs!

This is a very random ask but, your tags on that post about attraction being wild when you separate masc/fem blah blah I forgot the post already.. Those are all exactly what I was freaking out about with my sexuality. I use lesbian for a lot of reasons, but some kink stuff with men or fictional men I kinda like, so seeing someone have the same situation is very validating.
Ok so sorry for the late response but I had to go back and find that post which was a lot BUT. Yeah!
I feel like a lesbian in my soul. My core. If I have a gender, it's some variation of "dyke". I love women. I love lesbians. peace and love on planet earth etc.
That said...sometimes a man is hot! Sometimes I'm attracted to him! I tell my friends a lot: "I want that man in a dyke manner. I want him in a lesbian way." and that I know it makes no sense but its True! Sometimes I need that man like a lesbian!
I've been thinking about the type of men i like recently and come to some conclusions. First, I don't like men Like A Straight Girl Likes Men (Probably partly because I'm not a girl. Also sorry for stereotyping you straight girls it will happen again).
Generally men I like are
Fictional. one of my favorite phrases is that @blue-jacket-blues is obsessed with is when I said "I need Obi-Wan Kenobi barechested and weeping on his knees." I WANT MY MEN TO BE TORTURED.
Queer. Queer men...I looooove fags...and sometimes I see a queer man and im like hm. we should be a gay couple. As my friend who i will not call out here says, "I like my men fruity."
As an extra layer to that, in drag. Trixie Mattel once said, "When I die, dipped me in G and throw me to the lezzies" and baby I will be at the front of that line.
Kinky. I'm going to expose myself here and say without giving out specifics that I put some money in the pockets of some ethical and highly enjoyable filmmakers and actors who do some, what shall we say, inventive scenes. I watch what I enjoy and if that's men then that's men. My fantasies are in the safety of MY head and thats perfectly fine!
Normal. Part of the reason I used to be so averse to ever thinking I could be attracted to men was because I wasn't into the red carpet sex symbols of Hollywood. I don't care about them. Some of them I appreciate aesthetically, but I'm not into them. You know what I like? MEN WHO LOOK LIKE REAL PEOPLE. You know who that is? BRENNAN LEE MULLIGAN. WHAT A GUY.
All of the above, or at least some combination. Kinky queer guys? (Leather daddies I am willing to do a lot for you.) When Brennan Lee Mulligan plays Garthy O'Brien and says "lovey" in that tone? Yeah. When drag queens get all domme? Hiiiiiiiii.
Also like...a lot of this is, again, IN MY HEAD. Fantasies are a safe place to enjoy things you might not enjoy in real life and thats totally fine! I engage with a lot of things in my head that I probably wouldn't do IRL.
But yeah, when I stopped trying to deny that there were some men I was into, my life got so much better. I'm a dyke who sometimes likes men. Could I force myself into a different label? Maybe. But it wouldn't feel RIGHT, and if I'm going to have a label its going to being one I feel comfortable with.
Anyway this was a lot longer than I meant it to be. No bitching in the notes about how I a person with less that 1000 followers am personally ruining the queer community. God bless and get head (Unless you dont want head in which case. rejoice freshly baked bread be upon ye)

One of the things I appreciate about the way Brennan Lee Mulligan runs games on Dimension 20 is exactly this. For all that the players sometimes yell at him for making the bad guys too strong or the puzzles too difficult, he's also the first to say "I'm going to house rule this because that is cool as shit" when someone says they want to do something truly wild. He respects his players' agency in playing their characters, he respects their intelligence in solving his riddles. Someone rolls a nat 20 and "ruins" his plan? "Oh fuck. Incredible. OK. Um-" and then he runs with it. Someone makes a high stakes save? He's cheering with the rest of the table. Brennan wants his players to have a good time and he wants the game to tell a good story and he's not trying to hide behind some too cool for this mask.
And I really appreciate that.
Also, his sound effects. It reminds me of the stories about big actors having to be told to stop making the lightsaber noises on Star Wars. Like a little kid playing with dinosaurs.

Esther: My family’s been cursed for most of the history of New York. I am meant to become the third of the Furies of Tompkins Square Park. I found Alejandro because I wanted to study magic to find a way to break this curse and… the truth is, I don’t need to study magic. I am magic, but the part of me that is innately magic, I’ve never tapped into because once I do, I can’t go back.
[ID: eight gifs from dimesnion 20′s the unsleeping city of brennan lee mulligan speaking to the party as esther sinclair.
esther says “it goes in order; my mother is the current fury of rage, my grandmother is the fury of despair. we change into the furies if we ever experience our emotion powerfully enough. my mom wanted a better life for us and she tried to leave the unsleeping city. she swore off magic, she entered the waking world, she became a business woman... she started a financial company, basically a hedge fund with this rat bastard piece of shit who sold her out and destroyed their company to profit himself... and it ruined her. she fell to her curse. she reached in for that magic and... i lost her.” brennan narrates “it looks like she’s about to cry and then quickly, a little cantrip ticks on herself and she gets it back.” esther then says “oof. i need to be more careful talking about this because of my curse.” offscreen, sofia asks “would you say that that’s why romantically, you hold yourself back?” esther says “my curse is sorrow and um, psychologically speaking, is the experience of loss. i’ve lived my life under the presupposition that you can never feel sadness if you never have anything to lose.” end ID]

4, 16, 17, 33!
4. do you have any noticeable dm mannerisms? anything you’ve picked up from ttrpg shows or other dungeon masters in your life? or common tropes, themes, or encounters that reappear across your games?
hmm. i feel like i learn a lot from ttrpg shows but i don't often directly lift styles/techniques, at least not consciously. i think the way brennan lee mulligan dms is just. chef's kiss top tier. and I've learned a lot from him about letting the players do cool shit and also, tell them the dang clues! just tell them! lol. as far as tropes/themes, I've only run two campaigns (and one fizzled out pretty fast) but in both, "fuck capitalism and cops" were big themes. also both campaigns had cult problems lol. i don't THINK i am overly interested in dnd devil worshiping cults but apparently i am.
16. is there something that you desperately want to run someday, be it a specific system, setting, module, campaign, npc, etc?
i have plans to run a celtic setting campaign once my current campaign wraps up in...a year or two lmao, and I'm very excited about it. i also desperately wanna run a pirate campaign and/or an oops all rogues at some point in my life, maybe even in a different system! but that's a far-off dream.
17. what is your proudest improvisation moment?
this might seem surprising/weird but i honestly don't feel good at improv! i overthink things and play them out in various scenarios a ton before games. i think this is part of why combat is so difficult for me, it requires a high level of improvisation and can't really be planned beyond the setup. so any time combat feels good, i feel proud of that.
there are little rp moments that have been totally improv'd and I've felt proud of. any time i rp as vere, the sister of one the pcs, i feel like good things happen. vere is just a lot of fun lol. similarly, i plan almost nothing that 1023 (a warforged the party rescued from a ruined city) says in advance and i feel like there have been some gems there. i click with certain npcs in ways where the improv just flows, you know?
33. if you can, post your favorite comment/note/line from your game prep or gm notes made during a session
oooooh. after one of the pcs died, i wrote, "Whitlock died but got better" on the calendar. also last session's prep just had "figure out what the party will learn and how" but that was....it lmao. i wish i could remember more (i leave myself silly notes all the time) but my mind is a sieve!
