Breeds For All Needs Update
If the GoS theme this month wasn't a sign that I needed to get back to my Breeds For All Needs project I don't know what is!
Now for those of you who DON'T know what this is - essentially I wanted to remake all of the breeds from TS1-TS4. I also linked existing pet breeds by other creators when I found ones I liked. And then I got distracted and forgot about it.
As a refresher, here's a complete list with links to those I have already completed - please note some of these breeds I -have- done but part of the project is including links to other creators so I haven't made the official post yet:
Large Dogs
Afghan Hound (TS1; TS3; TS4) Airedale Terrier (TS2; TS3; TS4) Akita (TS2; TS3; TS4) Alaskan Malamute (TS3; TS4) American Eskimo Dog (includes small version) (TS3; TS4) American Foxhound (TS2; TS3) American Staffordshire Terrier (TS2 - as AmStaff; TS3) Anatolian Shepherd Dog Australian Cattle Dog (TS2; TS3; TS4) Australian Shepherd (TS1; TS2; TS3; TS4) Bernese Mountain Dog (TS3; TS4) Black & Tan Coonhound (TS2 - as Black & Tan; TS3; TS4) Black Mouth Cur (TS4) Black Russian Terrier (TS4) Bloodhound (TS3; TS4) Bluetick Coonhound (TS3; TS4) Border Collie (TS1; TS2; TS3; TS4) Borzoi (TS2; TS3; TS4) Boxer (TS2; TS3; TS4) Brittany (TS2; TS3; TS4) Bull Terrier (TS2; TS4) Bull Mastiff (TS2 - as Bullmastiff; TS3; TS4 - as Bullmastiff) Canaan Dog (TS2; TS3 - as Canaan; TS4 - as Canaan) Chesapeake Bay Retriever (TS2 - as Chessie; TS3; TS4) Chow Chow (TS2 - as Chowchow; TS3; TS4) Chow-Lab Mix (TS2; TS3; TS4) Collie (TS2 - rough collie version; TS3 - rough collie version; TS4 - rough collie version) Curly Coated Retriever (TS2; TS3; TS4) Dalmatian (TS1; TS2; TS3; TS4) Doberman Pinscher (TS2; TS3; TS4) English Foxhound (TS2; TS3; TS4) (see American Foxhound) English Setter (TS3; TS4) Foxhound (TS4) (see American Foxhound) German Shepherd (TS1; TS2; TS3; TS4) German Shorthaired Pointer (TS2; TS3; TS4 - as German Pointer) German Spitz* (TS4) Giant Schnauzer (TS2; TS3; TS4) Golden Retriever (TS2; TS3; TS4) Golden Doodle (TS2 - as Goldendoodle; TS3; TS4 - as Goldendoodle) Great Dane (TS2; TS3; TS4) Great Pyrenees (TS3; TS4) Greyhound (TS1; TS2; TS3; TS4) Ibizan Hound (TS3; TS4) Icelandic Sheepdog (TS4) Irish Red and White Setter (TS3; TS4) Irish Setter (TS1 - as Setter; TS3; TS4) Irish Terrier (TS3; TS4) Irish Wolfhound (TS2; TS3; TS4) Keeshond (TS2; TS3; TS4) Kerry Blue Terrier (TS2; TS3; TS4) Labradinger (TS2; TS3) Labradoodle (TS2; TS3; TS4) Labrador Retriever (TS1; TS2 - as Black Lab, Chocolate Lab, Yellow Lab; TS4) Mastiff (TS2; TS3) Newfoundland (TS2; TS3; TS4) Norsk Elk Shepherd (TS2; TS3; TS4) Norwegian Buhund (TS4) Old English Sheepdog (TS3; TS4) Otterhound (TS3; TS4) Pharaoh Hound (TS3; TS4) Pit Bull Terrier (TS2; TS3; TS4 - as Pit Bull) Pointer (TS2; TS3; TS4) Polish Lowland Sheepdog (TS3; TS4) Poodle (TS1; TS2; TS3; TS4) Portuguese Water Dog (TS4) Redbone Coonhound (TS2; TS3; TS4) Rhodesian Ridgeback (TS3; TS4) Rottweiler (TS1; TS2; TS3; TS4) Saint Bernard (TS1; TS2; TS3; TS4) Saluki (TS2) Samoyed (TS2; TS3; TS4) Shar Pei (TS1 - as Sharpei; TS4) Siberian Husky (TS1 - as Husky; TS2 - as Husky; TS3; TS4) Standard Schnauzer (TS4) Tibetan Mastiff (TS3; TS4) Vizsla (TS3; TS4) Weimaraner (TS2; TS3; TS4) Welsh Springer Spaniel (TS3; TS4) Wheaten Terrier (TS3; TS4) Whippet (TS2; TS3; TS4)

what breed of dog did you pick for what you'd like to adopt?
Honestly, we're just looking for anything under 20lbs due to our lease stipulations, and anything my husband doesn't have a reaction to. He's only allergic to dogs sometimes, and so far it's only been pit bulls/staffordshires and really greasy short haired mutts he's had issues with. He's literally rubbed his face on a husky with no problems, for example, and we used to do extended in-home dog sitting for two geriatric labs and he never had an issue. So most small breed dogs are going to be fine, so long as we can meet them first and make sure his eyes don't start watering.
The dog we were going to meet was a terrier mix, and it seemed really sweet and appeared to tick all the boxes we were hoping for, including being a little more on the calm/cuddly side for our daughter's sake. She gets anxious around hyper dogs because she can't predict what they're going to do. In fact, we met another dog this morning who my husband and I would have loved to take home, but he was just too much for her. Given time, I feel like she would have come around to him, but the owners were on a deadline with getting him a new home that simply wouldn't accommodate how slow she'd need to go with him, so it just wasn't meant to be.
Ultimately, any little hairy potato will do, so long as it doesn't have a strong prey drive and isn't going to jump on our daughter or bark directly in her face. My personal dream dog for small breeds is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, just because I love their dopey personalities. My daughter says she wants a dog with fluffy hair, and it should be "medium excited" instead of "wild excited." That doesn't really narrow down any breeds except maybe disqualifying the hairless and slick shorthair dogs, and also makes Dachshunds and corgis very unlikely.
In the end, we'll probably end up with a shih tzu mix, honestly, just by luck of the draw when trying to adopt an adult instead of a puppy. We REALLY don't want to do the puppy thing.

CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT: what dog breeds would suit them/they'd like/they'd own?
Tumblr media
CHARACTERS MENTIONED: erwin smith, mike zackarias, marlene, ilse langnar, jean kirstein, eld jinn, gunther schultz,
━━━━━━━━━━━━━.⊹˚⁀➷。.━━━━━━━━━━━━
erwin
german shepherd for sure, but that's such a boring answer bc 1) you know it, i know it, everyone knows a german shepherd fits this man and 2) you can say german shepherd for pretty much every character on this list. anyway: he'd vibe with irish wolfhounds (courageous, fearless, loyal, not agile but very smart and good at problem-solving  - it'd be a good fit for erwin). i can aso see him with a scottish terrier or a keeshond. for a more mellow dog, i can honestly see him with a (spanish or russian) greyhound: they are excellent companions, usually calm, love peace and quiet, but can be moderately amusing and entertaining. the greyhound's demeanor would be a very soothing presence for him. the downside would be that the greyhound would probably get anxious when erwin gets anxious lmfao.
mike
bernese mountain dogs and newfoundlands BABY. also a border collie or a labrador retriever and they'd be outdoor activity buddies. also maybe.. an akita because they apparently are reserved with strangers but form strong bonds with their family. would probably also vibe with beagles and basenjis.
ilse
is it a large breed and does it look like it could kill her and is it taller than her when standing on its hind legs? she’ll love it. doberman, german shepards, australian shepherds, bernese mountain dogs, newfoundlands, and irish wolfhounds - calls them all puppies and thinks all of them are adorable and smart and so loyal and great companions. also - labrador/golden retrievers bc they’re honestly underestimated breeds (yes they’re cute asf, but they also need a firm hand and positive reinforcement) and she’d love that. people would think: “it’s a labrador/golden what’s it going to do? bite me?” and quickly realise “oh shit it’s actually very well trained and loyal and could rip me apart" and ilse would just be like "yea : )". briards, samoyeds, and the shetland sheepdog would suit her too because they are agile and devoted asf, just like she is.
marlene
vizslas are attached to the hip of their owners: marlene would love that. her dog would be her baby. they're a package deal. would love dalmatians and all dogs considered "pretty". probably wanted a papillon when she was a kid.
jean
boxers: strong sense of loyalty? check. protectiveness? check. playfulness? check. also leaning towards rottweilers because they are such devoted dogs. would maybe vibe with swedish vallhunds too, and secretly would think dachshunds are funny and cute asf and would want one. would maybe like chinese shar-peis too.
eld
golden retriever: this one in specific. would also vibe with: great danes, huskys, australian shepherds.... doesn't matter if they are a large breed or not, basically any dogs you look at and think "they have good vibes, maybe a bit weird, but good" he'd love them. would want a shiba inu or a GSP - should NEVER own either.
gunther
kuvaszs and the neapolitan mastiff: serious guys, for a serious guy. i can see him with a rhodesian ridgeback or a giant schnauzer too.  would claim not to like GSPs, but would end up loving them. honestly, i think he'd also vibe with small dogs a lot esp corgis and dashounds.

J with pets/maybe specifically a dog head canons, GO!
Hi anon 🤍✨
I read this ask and literally burst into tears thinking about my furbaby. Is it okay if I dedicate this to J? (Yes, my dog’s name was J, no correlation to Joker tho)
I am not sorry this is literally my fur baby down to the tail wag! I just copied and pasted from my memories. I miss him so much and this brought back so many happy times. Crying is good for the soul but my eyes are gonna be swollen tomorrow at this rate.
I think my J and Joker would’ve gotten along wonderfully. J was a sweet yet demonic boy always getting into trouble while giving me countless laughs and plenty of scars. This one's for you J. 🤍✨
Canon Joker/Harley own two hyenas as pets and in the Dark Knight, Joker had dogs protecting him in the final scene against Batman. So it's only natural that Joker goes out and adopts a dog(s) to protect you when he’s not around.
Does your apartment allow pets? They do now. Joker bribes/threatens management to change the policy.
I’m talking big boys too! Like German Shepherd, Great Dane, Rottweiler, Siberian Husky etc. just to name a few. Pick one, because Joker will if you don’t. If you’re short, they easily come up to your chest and if you’re tall, well past your hip.
If by some chance big dogs aren’t your thing, (I strongly believe any size dog can protect) you lean more towards common household breeds like a Beagle, any terrier, Corgi, Maltese, Dachshund, etc.
Regardless of the breed, Joker trains the dog with an eerie military-like regiment. Fully potty trained, independent, highly intelligent; it's almost like the dog is human with how well it responds to you. The fur baby can be a service dog if it really wants to be! It protec, it attac, but most importantly, it comforts you on the lonely nights when Joker isn’t at home.
You were scared of this big dog at first. It snarled at you whenever you came too close, refused to let you pet him, the whole nine yards– (why did Joker get you such a mean doggie?) until you sucked it up and made it love you.
Like full on dog whisperer transformation. Now the two of you are inseparable! He’s the best boy for his mommy. All the tummy rubs and head scratches he could ever ask for! Joker is noT jealous… 👀
Joker was indifferent towards the animal for the longest, I mean, its sole purpose is for security. Why does he need to nurture it?
But coming home and seeing you laying on the couch with this massive dog serving as your personal weighted blanket, Joker slowly starts to warm up to the furry companion.
If it makes his Bunny happy then he can accept the dog can also double as an emotional support animal but it still has a job to do. Your safety is the number one priority here.
Tumblr media
Imagine! You leave for a trip and ask Joker to dog sit for the week. What could possibly go wrong?
Joker wasn’t worried about looking after the mutt, he trained it well so he’s gone most of the time, leaving the dog alone in the apartment. Potty breaks are done on the balcony and you splurge on an automated water and food dispenser set on a timer. What else is there to do? You mentioned walks but Joker ain’t got time for that. He’s a busy criminal.
You really didn’t think this through.
Joker spent the last day chilling on the couch watching TV, waiting for six pm to roll around so he could ‘go to work’ when he hears the soft tink tink tinks of paws on your hardwood floors.
He hadn’t heard the dog all week, he kind of forgets it’s in the apartment, they’re so quiet.
Joker hates the sound of barking. That was the first lesson they were trained on. Silence.
Joker’s green eyes roam over to the dog that jumps on the couch and proceeds to take up well over half a section due to its massive size.
“No. Get down!” Joker calls to the animal, only to get an audible huff in response.
Did this dog just huff at him?
Joker tries again in a more authoritative voice, “I said.. GeT, down. Now.”
And again, it huffs and curls up for a quick nap. Using Joker’s lap as a pillow.
Joker is two seconds away from tossing the deaf mutt across the room but checks himself with a deep breath.
You would never forgive him if he harmed your beloved baby. This was a grown dog by the way, ain’t no baby to be found. You’ve been hard at work sabotaging the meticulous training Joker drilled into this mutt. The dog has fully transitioned into a pampered lifestyle.
Your furbaby may be spoiled but make no mistake. He still protec his mama when push came to shove.
Any deliveries to the penthouse are scared away by the massive dog answering the door. LEAVE IT AT THE FRONT DESK. Save everyone the trouble, mkay?
But anyways.. All this pampering, who’s such a good boy, thousands of treats, scheduled walks, and the fact that you let it sleep in the bed with you, wasn’t helping its true purpose! What did you do to your primary line of defense? This was a guard dog, not a show puppy!
Joker tried freeing his legs out from under the dog's weight, but it hardly budged. If anything it just snored louder.
Nothing was moving the giant and Joker could only imagine if there was an active intruder what the lazy animal would do. Absolutely nothing! That’s what.
Joker growled at being trapped on the couch but let things be. Tomorrow morning he was reprogramming this slouch back to the feral, home defense animal he trained it to be.
Completely unrelated: Joker fell asleep on the couch with the dog practically smothering him. 8/10 good night’s rest. Would do it again.
Morning came around and Joker dragged himself into the kitchen for a bite to eat only to find the dog already eating out of the customized doggie bowl you purchased online. You spoiled the mutt like it was a child! There was a tray with a non-slip mat to catch any spills but the dog ate delicately (something it picked up from you no doubt) and eyed him in passing.
Another unimpressed huff.
Could dogs even have attitudes? And after it had the audacity to use Joker like a pillow all night! Joker wouldn’t admit it aloud, but he could see why you nuzzled up to the mutt often. It made for a good cuddle buddy…
But Joker had a reputation to uphold!
He really wanted to punt kick the darn thing across the room but fixed himself a bite to eat instead. Once he finished they would make their way outside onto the balcony for some offensive training.
The man and dog found themselves outside where Joker wasted no time trying to retrain the dog into attacking if placed into such situations. But much to Joker’s shock, the dog found a squeaky toy penguin from your sunroom and played with it, completely ignoring Joker altogether. The constant sharp squeaks only made Joker angrier.
“Noooo it's noT playtimeee. You don’t play. You attack. You’re supposed to protect my Light ya big, overgrown..” Just then, Joker’s phone rang with your smiling face on the display.
Speak of an angel and you shall appear.
He answered the phone call and your voice floated on the breeze in greeting. Joker didn’t notice the dog’s ears perk up hearing you as well. It abandoned its toy to investigate.
“How are my boys doing?”
Joker grumbled but collapsed into a patio chair. “I’m bored without cha here, Bunny. You bro-ke the uh guard dog.”
“The what? You mean J?” You replied.
“...... uh noT me. The mutt I boughT to keep you safe.”
“J is not a mutt. He’s a (insert selected breed). But what do you mean he’s broken? Is J okay? Oh! I forgot to tell you about his midnight snack! He gets grumpy if you don’t let him brush his teeth before bed. It's a greenie rawhide I keep on top of the fridge...”
“You named it after me?”
“Stop calling J an it. He has a name; and not everything is about you. J is short for um… that doesn’t matter right now! Is he okay?” You heard the distinctive sound of a dog collar chiming in the background.
At least he was nearby. Joker hadn’t killed your tootsie roll yet which was a miracle in itself. Joker only had compassion for you, no one else.
“Light you sound more wor-ried about the, uh, dog than meee.” Joker whined through the phone.
How could you forget about your bigger baby? Joker was known for his bouts of jealousy. It was both cute and annoying. You rolled your eyes.
“I’m worried about both of my boys. Mama will be home soon so don’t fight each other! Oh, and can you do me a huge favor? Can you give J a bath? I know you can’t take him to his grooming appointment but he’s due for a love scrub. Everything is in the storage cabinet in the bathroom labeled in the order I use it in.” It was a stretch, but it wouldn’t hurt to ask.
“No.”
Yeah, you knew Joker wouldn’t go for it. “Please J?”
Joker watched the dog circle around the chair that he was seated in, a clear sign of restlessness. Maybe it picked up the stress in your voice? He watched its tail wag slowly in the air, trying to pinpoint where your voice was coming from. But with each passing minute it failed to find its owner, it gave up and sat by Joker’s heels.
Joker returned his focus back on the phone call. “Are ya asking me or the dog?”
“Ugghhghghgh you’re impossible to deal with! Hey I gotta go, the event is about to resume. Please bathe my baby and you better take a bath too, J! I saw the news earlier.. see you tomorrow!”
You hung up the phone before Joker could speak up.
The nerve you had. He’d have to punish you when you returned home from your business trip. He did quite a bit of evading the GCPD while working this week and could use a good shower but as for bathing the mutt?
His green eyes locked with the piercing black already staring at him. The dog licked its mouth and wagged its tail, waiting for its promised love scrub. He heard his Mama loud and clear. He never skipped a wash day.
Guess there was no avoiding this. Joker wondered if he could call Frost and his daughter to handle this…
You returned home the next day to quite the sight. J was on the loose, wet as a mop, with a distressed Joker stalking behind him, equally drenched.
Joker was a simp that couldn’t say no to you. He had no other choice but to bathe your dog or suffer your cold shoulder.
Joker stopped dead in his tracks when he spotted you still in your GothCon ensemble, standing in the doorway. You were doing a terrible job masking your peals of laughter.
“This… this. Oh… this is noT, funny doll.” He warned.
You burst out laughing when J came to greet you and shook himself dry, spraying Joker and the room with wet dog water. This was priceless!! And Joker looked ready to kill something. Hopefully not your beloved furbaby.
“I regreT buying you a dog.”

Hello! I know that it is not actually a pokemon type so to speak but I'm staring down an essay deadline with less than half the word count. Would you mind talking about your favourite pokemon that is a dog or canine? Like the pokemons that are also dogs? Does that make sense? Sorry I'm very sleep deprived right now. Thank you so much for always being such a lovely presence on my dash and I hope you have a brilliant day!
Thank you for the compliments, and I would be glad to talk about some of my favorite PokéCanines! I’ll talk about all of my favorite canine pokémon, though please do note that I am leaving out the Ecruteak Trio because it is hotly debated whether they are canines or not and I do not feel like getting into that tonight. (For the record, I feel that Entei is definitely canine, Raikou is feline, and Suicune is too hard to tell, but still, I don’t want to get into it, so I will leave it at that.)
Growlithe / Arcanine — Probably my favorite of the canines for personal, sentimental reasons. When I imagined my previous dog in the Pokémon world, I imagined her as a Growlithe who would evolve into an Arcanine, because the PokéWorld doesn’t have a sheltie pokémon and I felt that the fluff and warmth of Growlithe fit her best, along with the ‘Dex descriptions of them being very loyal and willing to do anything to protect their trainer. My previous dog was exactly like that. But I also feel that Arcanine would be just such a wonderful pokémon to be companions with because they are gigantic, fire-breathing fluffy puppies, and riding them across the countryside would be AMAZING. (Not that I live in the countryside, but I do live in the midwest, so the plains are everywhere and not hard to find.) They’re just so good.
Smeargle — Okay, I will admit, Smeargle loses some points for being bipedal. HOWEVER. They gain those points back by virtue of how cool they are! While they’re not very useful in battle, sadly, due to low stats and the like, Smeargle are cool because each Smeargle has a different color paint (it’s not really paint, more a bodily fluid they use like paint, but close enough), and that as they grow up they let other Smeargle that they are close put their pawprints on their back. (So in other words, Smeargle A let’s Smeargle B use Smeargle B’s ink to put Smeargle B’s pawprints on Smeargle A’s back.) The ‘Dex always says “comrades,” but listen . . . we know what it means when two Smeargle have each other’s pawprints on their back. They are in love.
Houndour / Houndoom — ACTUAL HELLHOUNDS, THEY ARE GREAT. True, the fact that their breath smells like sulfur is kind of gross, but their design and concept are so incredibly cool, and I also just absolutely love the mental image of a Houndour puppy having gigantic paws they have yet to grow into. It’s just the absolute cutest. I also like to imagine that my current dog would be a mixed-breed Houndour and Poochyena in the PokéWorld, so there’s that, too.
Flareon & Umbreon — Listen, some of the Eeveelutions look like felines, some of them look like canines, and others (such as Jolteon) make it really hard to tell. But I’m convinced that Flareon and Umbreon are both canines, and I love them both. FIRST of all, Flareon DOES NOT deserve the hate it gets. It is small and soft and so incredibly warm, it CAN be useful in battle, and most importantly, FLAREON WAS NOT THE FALSE PROPHET AND DID NOTHING WRONG, EVERYONE WHO HATED FLAREON DURING TPP SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES. If you don’t know what I’m talking about there, you don’t need to know about it, but just know that Flareon had a lot of libel posted about it and it was completely unacceptable. As for Umbreon, Umbreon is the Eeveelution I connect with the most given that I am naturally nocturnal, and I love how its rings grow stronger depending on what phase the moon is in. Shiny Umbreon is also choice. They’re definitely the best two Eeveelutions (though Espeon is also up there, sorry Espeon, although Espeon is also one of the feline ones and so shouldn’t be discussed here anyway).
Poochyena / Mightyena — As discussed in another ask, technically hyenas are not canines (or felines), but I’m still going to include them here because the localization team at the very least thought that Poochyena looked like a puppy (“pooch”), hence its name. I LOVE these two. Although my Mightyena ended up underperforming in AlphaSapphire, I’ve always loved the scruffy look contrasted with how loving and puppylike they can be. Also, again, I like to think of my current dog as a mixed breed Houndour/Poochyena, so there’s that, too.
Absol — Absol is another contested one, but I always thought Absol looked canine to me, so I’m going to count it. Absol is wonderful because it not only has a super cool design (though could also benefit from a dual typing, I feel), but also because this is another poor baby who has had so much unfortunate slander spread about it. Absol just wants to help! Absol wants to warn people! And people decide that instead of being grateful, they want to blame the messenger!! Absol does not deserve this at all, and the world likewise does not deserve Absol. That is a fact.
Lillipup / Herdier / Stoutland — Before anyone says anything, NO, these are not shelties. Lillipup is more like a yorkshire terrier, and while Herdier and Stoutland seem like they could be herding dogs of some kind (it’s even in Herdier’s name), I can assure you they do not resemble shelties. More like they resemble oversized yorkies. REGARDLESS, I loved them. Lillipup is adorable, so is Herdier, and while Stoutland is less cute and more gruff, it is also an absolute BEAST. BW confused me because I always took Cheren down easily, but Bianca regularly fucked up my shit with her Stoutland. (And yet they tried to make Stoutland Cheren’s ace in the sequels, smh . . .) My Stoutland was also very reliable. Very good doggos, 10/10
Rockruff / Lycanroc — WOLVES!!! FINALLY WOLVES!!! oh my GOD I waited SEVEN GENERATIONS for this!! To be fair, when I was a child I mistook MIghtyena for a wolf because of the coloring and the fact that it looked like a canine, but as I got older I learned the truth and was back to being disappointed. And while the fact that this line is pure rock (which has a million weaknesses) is disappointing, and while I’m also not fond of Midnight Form being bipedal, I can forgive it because we finally have wolves AND ALSO Rockruff is adorable and perfect AND ALSO because so is Midday Form. Plus, despite rock-type having so many weaknesses, my Midday Lycanroc is pretty strong, so. It works out.
Yamper / Boltund — Okay, I will level with you: a corgi evolving into a greyhound is kind of weird. Also, I do question why they used yorkshire terriers in Unova when they should have saved them for Galar, and instead maybe had like, American bull terriers (a.k.a. pitbulls) in Unova instead (although I guess some could argue that Snubbul / Granbull are pitbulls, but I disagree, I think they look more like English bulldogs than pitbulls). Regardless though, anyone who says that Yamper is anything other than adorable does not have eyes (the puppy has a heart on its butt), and also they are the GOODEST of puppers in how they bring your pokéballs back to you. And while it took me a bit to get used to Boltund, my Boltund, Poppy, is AMAZING and  love her very, very much. This line is great and I love them. ♥
Zacian & Zamazenta — FINALLY, SOME LEGENDARY WOLVES!! And not only are they legendary wolves, but one has a tuft of fur it can turn into a shield around its neck and the other CARRIES A SWORD IN ITS MOUTH, HOW BADASS IS THAT. I do get a little annoyed when people call them doggos when they are actually wolfos, but that doesn’t change how excited I was to have some legendary wolves at last, particularly ones dedicated to beating up hellspawn from space. I love them, they are beautiful, 10/10.
So those are my favorite canine pokémon!! If anyone disagrees with any of these pokémon being canines, I do not care and I do not want to fight about it, please do not send discourse my way. And as a final note, here are two lists of future canines / dog breeds I hope to see in future gens:
Dog Breeds: SHELTIES, miniature schnauzers, Italian greyhounds, German shepherds, Siberian huskies, dachshunds, shiba inu, some kind of spaniel, chihuahua (and it HAS to be fighting-type, it HAS to), and many others. You can never have too many doggos.
I also have to have one more final grievance at the fact that we didn’t get shelties in Galar either considering that sheltie is a nickname for shetland sheepdog, and this breed of dog ORIGINATED IN SCOTLAND, which at least part of Galar (particularly the Crown Tundra) was inspired by, ffs Game Freak why did you miss this opportunity.
Wild Canines: Maned wolves, African wolf, African wild dog, dingos, coyotes, and just more wolves in general, honestly. I would say more foxes too, but we already have several fox lines, and while I wouldn’t say no to them, I want to see more wolves get attention first.
Anyway, thanks for asking!! I love Pokémon and I love canines, so this was a fun ask!

Best Outdoor Dog Houses
https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/51UuiyCnQXL.jpg Every dog I’ve ever lived with has been an indoor dog.
I slept on the couch with them, shared ice cream cones with them, and cuddled together during my favorite TV shows.
I wasn’t introduced to the idea of an outdoor dog until I was in middle school.
One of my friends had a dog that lived mainly outside in their backyard. He had his own giant water bowl and cute little dog house.
His dog house had the classic dog house look.
It was made of wood and painted red, although it didn’t have his name over the door or anything.
It left me wondering what kinds of dog houses are out there for dogs to try.
Here’s everything I’ve learned and which ones could be the best for your pup.
Best Dog Houses
There are different reasons why dog owners may look into an outdoor dog house, so here are the best options that I’ve found for the most common reasons that lead people to buy a dog house.

Our Pets Tuff-N-Rugged Dog House
The Tuff-N-Rugged dog house is one that’ll please any dog.
It has the picturesque dog house shape without compromising on the materials it’s made out of.
Overview
This dog house keeps dogs cool in the summer and warm in the winter, since it’s constructed out of weather-proof materials.
Special insulation makes it great for any dog who spends time outside when the weather turns cold.
What I Liked
A special feature I appreciate is how it’s built. This dog house is double walled for extra support and insulation.
It also has fade resistant paint, so constant exposure to UV won’t make it look dingy right after you set it up.
Cleaning with this dog house is a breeze too. You can easily hose it out and let it air dry. There’s no risk of mold or deterioration if it’s wet for a long period of time.
Don’t worry about your dog’s size either. It can fit dogs up to 125 pounds, which covers most standard breeds.
One concern I’d have if Maggie used a dog house would be the house getting flooded during heavy rainstorms, but this dog house is raised to prevent rain runoff from becoming an issue and to better insulate the dog from the cold ground.
What I Didn’t Like
The individual walls are thin plastic.
Heavy chewers can damage this dog house and heavy winds can move it around.
It’s also not a good choice if you have a heavier dog who likes to lay on top of their dog house because this can cause the roof to cave in.
Final Thoughts
The Tuff-N-Rugged dog house is definitely an investment, but it’s well worth every penny.
Plenty of thought and care went into the design and production to make this a long lasting product. The careful attention to detail is what makes this dog house the overall winner for me.
No dog living in this house will be left wanting.

Suncast Outdoor Dog House DH250
Most dog owners would agree that we want to provide only the best for our dogs, but unfortunately sometimes we’re restricted by a tight budget.
That’s where the Suncast Outdoor Dog House, model DH250, comes into play.
It averages around the same price as other dog houses but it still provides some key features that will make you want to click “Add to Cart.”
Overview
First of all, it looks like one of those mini houses kids can play with when they’re little.
I used to have one in my backyard, complete with the plastic kitchen inside it and windows that opened.
This dog house looks very similar, although its windows don’t open.
Still, it has a vinyl door cover.
Dogs can easily come and go through this door cover, but still be protected when they go inside during rainstorms.
And if you’re concerned about ventilation, don’t worry. There are plenty of built-in vents to make sure there’s always fresh air available.
What I Liked
It can also be put together without tools!
I have a mini tool kit in my closet that has a dusty hammer and a screwdriver, so not having to buy extra supplies to build this dog house would be a huge bonus for me.
What I Didn’t Like
One thing to note is that it’s not insulated.
It’s meant only to house dogs when the weather is nice, so dogs who spend time outside in the winter will need a heat lamp and some additional insulation.
Final Thoughts
The Suncast Outdoor Dog House may not be the best outdoor dog house on the market but it provides a lot of bark for your buck.

Arf Frame Dog House
The Arf Frame Dog House is too adorable to handle. It’s a little log cabin for dogs to hang out in, complete with raised framing.
Overview
This dog house is made out of fir wood, so it’s lightweight and easy to handle while assembling.
Fir wood is also naturally weather resistant.
It’ll last a lot longer than typical wood frame dog houses, especially since it has a sheet-lined inner roof.
The fir wood makes it cost a bit more than plastic dog houses, but it’s an investment that’s worth your money.
What I Liked
Some small dogs also prefer a tighter den.
It makes them feel safer, which is something the Arf Frame can provide. It’s tiny and cozy, perfect for curling up in after a long day of being a dog.
Did I mention that it comes in different colors and can even be painted if you want to decorate your dog’s future home?
Literally the definition of adorable!
What I Didn’t Like
Be careful if you decide to order this house, since it’s meant to be a tight fit and could end up being the wrong size if you don’t compare measurements first.
Anyone interested in this dog house should also know that it isn’t an insulated house.
You’ll need to add your own insulation if your dog will be using this during the winter.
Final Thoughts
If Maggie was a small dog, I’d consider getting her an Arf Frame dog house as soon as we upgrade to a human home with a backyard.

Petmate Indigo Dog House
I could totally see Maggie hanging out in the Petmate’s Indigo Dog House.
Overview
It’s made with medium sized dogs in mind, so it has plenty of room for them to stretch out and sit up comfortably.
The offset door protects dogs from rain and wind once they’re inside the dog house.
There’s no need to squint around the structure and try to find the vents.
This dog house has roof ventilation that’s easy to check for clogs or damage. It circulates fresh air without letting in any rain or snow.
Medium dogs are also known to track in dirt and mud. Maggie’s basically a sponge in dog form whenever there’s even the slightest bit of rain.
It’s inevitable that your dog will make their dog house dirty, which is why this dog house has microban antimicrobial product protection on all surfaces.
What I Liked
Bacteria stand no chance in this dog house, even if you can’t get out to clean it every few days.
It’s also made with heavy-duty construction, which provides sufficient insulation for both hot and cold days.
What I Didn’t Like
The opening can be a little bit small, so be sure to pay attention to the sizing.
You might want to size up.
Also, rain can get into the entrance and flood the inside during heavy storms. You can fix this with a dog house door but those are available separately.
Final Thoughts
The Petmate Indigo dog house is a little pricey, but medium sized dog houses typically are.
If you have any extra money to spare when you purchase it or later on, you may want to add their specially made dog house pads for extra comfort, since this dog house is raised but still a hard plastic.

Suncast Outdoor Dog House DH350
Suncast is back with their outdoor dog house but with a better model for big dogs.
Overview
The Suncast model DH350 outdoor dog house has everything that makes a Suncast product so great.
It’s super cute, with its sky blue roof and beige walls, plus a nameplate over the door.
It also has a vinyl door that’s split down the middle, so large dogs can get in and out of the dog house with ease.
This door is especially important, since the extra large door frame would potentially let in more rain and debris without the vinyl door there.
It’s extra large for big dogs up to 75 pounds and looks great in backyards, patios and porches
What I Liked
Just like with their smaller dog houses, this dog house also snaps together without any tools.
Anything that saves me a trip to the hardware store is something I’m especially interested in.
There are vents on all sides of the dog house for extra help with air circulation.
It’s also slightly raised, so puddles that form during rainstorms won’t cause an issue to any dog hanging out inside.
What I Didn’t Like
Just like the smaller model, this bigger version lacks insulation.
It’s also constructed of lighter-weight plastic, so rambunctious dogs can disassemble it for you.
Final Thoughts
Larger dog houses often cost more money than ones for smaller dogs. The Suncast Outdoor Dog House for Large Dogs is a good large dog house for small dog money.

Best Dog House for Winter
ASL Solution’s Dog Palace
During the winter, some dogs enjoy continuing their outdoor lifestyle.
They shouldn’t have to be cooped up inside when they don’t want to, which is when dog owners should check out ASL Solution’s Dog Palace.
Overview
This massive dog house will keep any medium or large dog (up to 150 pounds) comfortable during cold temperatures.
It doesn’t play around with its insulation, which is two to four inches of real foam (styrofoam and expanded polystyrene [EPS] foam).
This foam retains heat in the winter and also keeps it cooler in the summer.
There’s also a self-closing door that works as a barrier against the cold. It’s also insulated and secures itself every time a dog passes in or out of the dog house.
The window panes on the door are what really help it stay functional during all seasons.
They can be repositioned from being completely closed in the winter to being open during the summer for better ventilation.
This is also useful for dogs who are being trained to use the dog house, since the open panes will encourage them to go in and out of it frequently.
Don’t worry about the floor being too cold either. It’s completely insulated and raised an incredible four inches off the ground so it’s always dry and warm.
When you need to clean it out, you can take advantage of the slightly sloped flooring. It leads down to a minor drain hole, which makes cleaning this dog house quick and easy.
You can get the Dog Palace as a kit with a fleece bed as well
What I Liked
This dog house is good for most of the year and can handle heavy winter storms.
All the features come together to make a dog palace, not a dog house.
What I Didn’t Like
A massive and well-made dog house like this won’t come at a cheap price, so prepare to save up for this purchase.
The door may also taken some getting used to by your dog.
But there are ways to help your dog get used to their new dog house.
Final Thoughts
Even if it takes a bit to save the money, ASL Solution’s Dog Palace won’t disappoint.
Your dog will be well insulated and protected during winter weather.

Best Dog House for Hot Weather
SENYEPETS Outdoor Dog House
When the weather gets hot in the summer, dog owners who let their dogs hang out in the backyard share a main concern.
There’s always the worry that your dog will be overheated in their dog house, no matter how windy or cloudy it may be.
That’s the concern that SENYEPETS had in mind when they created their outdoor dog house.
Overview
The SENYEPETS Dog House has optimal ventilation, so heat will never be trapped inside.
Standard dog houses may have a few vents on the sides of the dog house or even the roof, but SENYEPETS’ dog house has both side ventilation and skylights
The skylights lift up and can be held in place, so the wide plastic framing will welcome in any breeze.
The side ventilation is also considered heavy duty, without exchanging usefulness for how good it looks.
With the slide of a tiny lever, the side ventilation opens up and allows for continual air exchange. Sliding the lever back will close this ventilation for cooler days.
Another great feature is that this dog house is raised off the ground. Excess water will run right under it and not bother your dog a bit.
What I Liked
Not only is this dog house great for sunny days but it’s a good indoor house, too.
What I Didn’t Like
This dog house is light so it’s easy to move, which also makes it a little flimsy for bigger dogs.
This is really a dog house that’s best suited for small breeds.
You’ll also want to give your outdoor dog a different house when winter hits.
Final Thoughts
The SENYEPETS Outdoor Dog House is close to the average price of dog houses, though, so most dog families should be able to afford it during summer heat waves.

Best Dog House for Rainy Weather
Petsfit Outdoor Dog House
Rainy weather can feel like the end of any good dog house.
It can soak through the cheap dog houses, create an environment for mold to thrive and leak through the tiniest cracks.
It’s a battle that every dog house has to fight, which makes it even more difficult to find a good dog house when you live in an area that experiences frequent rain.
Petsfit is here for those dog owners who want their dog to be sheltered from the heaviest rainstorms with the Petsfit Outdoor Dog House.
Overview
Petsfit created this dog house that looks modern and fashionable while still being the best protection against rain.
It’s made of natural cedar wood, which would be concerning if it wasn’t painted over with water-based paint.
Water-based paint acts like non-toxic water sealant, causing rain to slide right off instead of soak into the wood.
Although, if you want more protection, you could also apply a water-proofing varnish to the outside of the dog house.
This dog house also utilizes an off-center door. Your dog can snuggle up off to the side and not worry about being hit by the falling rain.
Another measure of protection against rain is the door flap that comes with the dog house.
You can take it on and off as needed, but it’ll further protect your dog against rainstorms.
What I Liked
You’ll only need a basic screwdriver to put this dog house together, which isn’t what I expected at first.
Wooden dog houses make me picture working with a tool kit for an hour or two to assemble it, but it comes with all the screws and pre-drilled holes you’ll need.
Another concern some dog owners have about wooden dog houses is the cleaning. Once it’s all screwed together, you may feel like it’s impossible to clean well.
This dog house has a slanted roof that’s an added bonus for two reasons:
The first reason is that the roof can be propped and held up on its own so the interior of the dog house is completely exposed.
The second biggest benefit to this dog house is that the slanted roof encourages constant drainage. No amount of water will sit on the top of the dog house and soak through or damage it.
Oh, remember how this dog house is made from cedar?
Cedar resists mold and mildew[1], which is a concern in rainy areas.
What I Didn’t Like
Even the large size can only hold dogs up to 75 lbs. Weight, not height or length, is the sticking point thanks to the removable floor.
Also, this dog house is rather expensive.
Finally, some dogs are allergic to cedar. Keep an eye on your pooch for any signs of allergy or pain!
Final Thoughts
The Petsfit Outdoor Dog House isn’t as fancy looking as many dog houses but it’s very well built for keeping out the rain and for being easy to clean.
You can give any possible concerns a good month to work themselves out. Everyone who buys this dog house gets a full 30 day warranty which covers any damages or issues.

Best Wooden Dog House

Tangkula Dog House
Many dog owners look for a wooden dog house that will work seamlessly with the design of the backyard.
It’s all too easy to find a dog house that stands out like a sore thumb, but the Tangkula Dog House won’t.
Overview
This dog house is made of fir wood that has a natural reddish brown hue and is coated in a water-based, eco-friendly paint.
It blends in well with yards that have fertilized grasses, pinestraw, or mulch.
The roof also has a red and brown asphalt rain roof. The color works perfectly with the tint of the wood, and it protects any rain or snow from entering the dog house.
The dog house is also completely raised off the ground.
The bottom won’t be penetrated by moisture or cold, which guarantees a longer lifespan for the dog house.
What I Liked
I like how this dog house was made with eco-friendly materials and paint.
Also, the floor is removable for easy cleaning.
Plus, it’s an adorable looking dog house!
What I Didn’t Like
Owners should be aware that while natural wood has the ability to insulate a bit, this dog house has no insulation built into it.
It’ll be good for spring and summer weather, but insulation should be added if the weather dips below 70 degrees Fahrenheit at night.
This dog house does come in small, medium, and large sizes, but it’s intended for small to medium dogs.
Also, the given sizes are for the roof, not the dog house itself, so it’s easy to accidentally order the wrong size.
Final Thoughts
The Tangkula Dog House is slightly more costly than similar plastic dog houses, but it’s a fair price when the quality of the dog house is taken into consideration.

Best Overall Plastic Dog House
Suncast Outdoor Dog House DH350
When it comes to plastic dog houses, you want to know that you’re getting a quality product.
Too often, plastic dog houses are made with cheap standards all to make a profit, but that doesn’t happen with Suncast products.
I reviewed the Suncast DH350 dog house above. It’s not only the best dog house for large dogs, it’s the overall best plastic dog house.
Overview
The DH350 plastic dog house comes in all sizes with a colorful exterior that looks at home in any yard.
It has all the great features you’ll look for in a dog house, like a vinyl door, venting, and simple construction.
What I Liked
What sets it apart is the plastic siding.
This dog house is made of resin material, which has been studied and proven to be a stronger, higher quality plastic than traditional plastics.
It has a high cohesive and compressive strength.
It also has a higher level of microhardness, which makes it less susceptible to abrasions.
Dog owners know that dog nails can do a lot of damage even when your dog isn’t trying to dig into a surface.
This tougher plastic ensures that your dog will be able to use this dog house for a much longer period of time.
Gone are the days where you’ll have to replace the dog house every couple months!
What I Didn’t Like
As I mentioned before, you’ll need to insulate this dog house yourself if you plan on leaving your pooch outside in the winter and this dog house is best for calmer dogs.
Though, you could probably make the assembly permanent with some epoxy.
So, these negatives are minor and fixable!
Final Thoughts
Plastic dog houses may look like playground equipment, but playground equipment is good for surviving rough handling for long periods of time.
The Suncast Outdoor Dog House, model DH350, will protect your dog for a long time as well!

Benefits of Dog Houses
There are many benefits to getting your dog a dog house.
They wouldn’t have been invented and be so widely used if they didn’t have a strong purpose.
The first main purpose of a dog house is that it provides a much needed den for your dog[2].
Indoor dogs typically have crates they can use when they want alone time, but if your dog is outside all the time, they may not have access to a den-like space.
Dog houses also provide much needed protection for outdoor dogs.
Putting a crate in your backyard wouldn’t keep your dog from getting sunburnt during summer months or shelter them from cold winter winds.
Instead, dog houses are an aerated shelter that can work in any kind of weather, depending on if it’s insulated and well ventilated.
Being protected from the weather is the main concern for dogs that live an outdoor lifestyle, which is why dog houses are so important for owners to research and invest in.
What to Look For
Now that you know the best dog houses for all different kinds of sizes and purposes, it’s time to learn about what you should look for.
You’ll have to decide which factors are the most important depending on the size of your dog and the weather where you live.
Material
The material is what really makes a dog house worth your time and money.
You’ll want to buy quality material, plus the right material for where you live.
Wood
Standard wood dog houses work well in dry and sunny environments.
With the right ventilation, they’ll last a long time in the right weather.
Woods like fir and cedar have a long lifespan and stand up well to things like dog nails and sharp bones or sticks.
You’ll also want to look into wooden dog houses that have some kind of protection against mold and mildew.
Wood is especially susceptible to these in rainy climates, or when they’re placed in a part of your yard that doesn’t get much sunlight or wind to dry it out.
Plastic
Plastic dog houses must be well researched before you buy.
Plastic is easily made for a cheap price in factories, but cheap plastic won’t hold up when it’s put to the test of your dog’s wear and tear.
Resin based plastics are the strongest[3], which is why you should look for this kind of plastic in any dog house you seriously consider buying.
Metal
This is about as much metal as you want in your dog’s house
Metal can be used in dog houses, but shouldn’t be the sole material that makes the dog house.
For example, a wooden dog house with metal framing will be much sturdier than a traditional wooden dog house.
At the same time, no dog house should be made entirely of metal.
Metal is an excellent heat conductor. When sunshine or higher temperatures hit a metal surface, the delocalised electrons carry the kinetic energy throughout all the metal.
Your dog would essentially cook inside a metal dog house or freeze when laying on a metal surface in the winter.
Quality metal, like steel, should instead be used to reinforce the structure of a dog house.
Size
Just like size is important to consider when buying a dog crate, it’s just as important to keep in mind when you buy a dog house.
Getting the wrong sized dog house will make buying the house pointless.
How to Choose the Right Size
Your dog will be spending a lot of time in their dog house, and while they’ll have the freedom to come and go as they please, they should never be constrained to a tight space that they don’t actually fit in.
Measure your dog’s length and height when they’re comfortably standing and sitting. They should be able to walk into their dog house easily and relax without squishing themselves in.
Don’t try to fit a mastiff into this dog house!
You can also look at how your dog sits in the dog house after it arrives and they try it out.
If they’re being pressed in on all sides by the walls and even ceiling of the dog house, it’s definitely a size too small.
Check to see if the dog houses you’re interested in have a sizing guide that you can read before buying
You should also read customer reviews.
Your 100 pound German Shepherd may be within the correct size measurements, but another German Shepherd owner may have left a review that indicates the right or wrong size based on their experience.
Insulation
Dogs have roamed the world in all kinds of temperatures for thousands of years, but that doesn’t mean it was safe for them.
When you’re buying a dog house that will help your dog through colder temperatures, it should have the proper insulation for the temperatures you’re expecting.
When the outdoor temperature drops below 45 degrees Fahrenheit, that’s when your dog really needs some assistance.
Foam and padded insulation are great to have in a dog house at this point, as well as a rotating or solid door. A vinyl flap won’t cut it when the temperatures get that cold.
If your dog will be dealing with many feet of snow, freezing temperatures, and gusting wind chills, you’ll want to find a dog house that has the most insulation possible.
Ventilation
Ventilation is important for dogs in cold and hot weather.
It makes sure that your dog is always breathing fresh air.
When the weather is extremely hot, ventilation keeps the temperature inside the dog house from rising to temperatures that are higher than the actual outdoor air.
Consider what happens when it’s summertime and you sit in a car with all the doors and windows closed.
It gets really hot really fast and eventually leads to heat stroke.
Dogs can get heatstroke too, even if you think the door to their dog house will be good enough.
Ventilation is typically found on the walls of the dog house, but additional ventilation can be put on the roof or even installed twice as much on the sides of the house to catch wind gusts.
Ventilation can also keep the inside of your dog’s house from becoming humid, keeping mold from growing.
Weather Door/Flap
At first, a vinyl flap or door to your dog’s dog house may not seem like very much protection at all.
If it flaps around when your dog moves through it, why have it at all?
Weather doors are actually very important to keeping your dog dry and safe when the weather is bad.
Even if you get your dog a dog house that’s extra big and has space for them to lay down away from the door, rain can still get in if the wind has it falling at a slanted angle.
A weather door or flap will keep that rain out of the dog house, along with any flying debris like sticks and leaves.
It’s an extra measure of protection that’s especially useful for dogs that live in rainy areas.
Ease of Cleaning
It’s no secret that you’ll have to clean out the dog house in your backyard eventually.
No matter how clean your yard is or how much your dog avoids getting dirty, it’s still left out to the elements.
Dirt, debris, water, and even bugs will find their way into your dog’s dog house. That’s why it should always be easy for you to clean the dog house whenever you decide that it’s time.
Easy cleaning features will look like a roof that can be lifted off or walls that can be taken apart.
If a dog house is too heavy or permanently put together after you build it, it’ll be much more difficult to get it cleaned.
Design
Last but not least, the dog house you buy should look great!
It should look at home wherever you put it. You don’t want it to end up being an eyesore you have to look at every day.
Look for colors you enjoy and designs that appeal to you.
Some dog houses are made to look like tiny human homes, while others have their own style.
Keep this in mind while you look, since you shouldn’t have to buy something you don’t like just to make your dog comfortable.
Dog House Styles
I definitely fall into the group that had only one image of a dog house in mind.
The truth is that they come in many different styles that set them apart from other dog houses on the market.
Each style will have a different purpose and setting in mind, which is why every dog owner should know what each style is all about.
No one wants to end up buying a dog house that’s cute but doesn’t actually end up working for their dog.
Standard
The standard dog house is the one everyone first pictures when they think of a dog house.
It has the slanted roof, the wooden walls, and the arched doorway.
They come in many different colors and sizes, and can be easily personalized.
This dog house is good for dogs that will be outside in mild temperature conditions.
It’s meant to be a place to relax, not necessarily protect the dog from the most extreme elements.
It can be a good idea to let your dog start out with a standard dog house to train them that it’s a safe place for them to relax.
After that, you can upgrade to a dog house that’s designed more closely to your outdoor environment.
Igloo
Igloo dog houses are meant for exactly what igloos do:
They shelter dogs in winter weather.
They usually have an entrance that’s followed by a short tunnel that leads into the domed shelter.
The offset entrance keeps snow and rain from blowing into the dog house with the wind, and also helps keep your dog’s body heat in a centralized location away from the entrance.
They may have more insulation than other dog houses, although dog houses of all shapes can keep your dog warm during the winter.
Canopy
Canopy dog houses are like an outdoor crate that’s covered in a weather-resistant fabric.
They’re collapsible and easy to put together, so you can take it on the go.
This kind of dog house isn’t meant to be a permanent fixture in your backyard.
Instead, it can be switched between the outside world and the inside of your home, so your dog has their den wherever they need to go.
Soft-sided dog crates can be used as temporary canopy dog houses and are also good for traveling and camping.
Shed
Shed dog houses look like a human shed.
They’re boxy and may not even have openings to see inside.
These are meant for dogs that live in extremely cold weather for most of the year. They have inches of insulation on all sides, they’re raised off the ground, and won’t let any melting snow in.
These are best for dogs that will be outdoors in freezing or below freezing temperatures.
Shed dog houses are well sealed and insulated, so you won’t see these out in the backyards of anyone who lives where it’s sunny and hot all the time.
Porch
For owners interested in a more decorative dog house, the porch dog house may be what you’re looking for.
They come in all shapes and sizes, but offer an attached, covered porch area for your dog to hang out in.
An advantage of having a porch dog house is that your dog doesn’t have to be inside to watch the birds fly by.
They can be out in the breeze, without being at risk to get covered in bird droppings or a sudden summer storm.
How to Make Your Dog’s House Better
Dog houses are made with a great level of care, because no dog should be at risk of getting hurt in the place where they find safety.
Still, sometimes there are a few things you can do to help make your dog’s house better.
Add a Fan
You can also get a solar powered fan that’s good for dog houses, chicken coops, and many more uses!
Even if your dog is hanging out in the most ventilated dog house, they’re still going to get hot during the summer.
You don’t have to depend on just the wind and passing cloud coverage to cool your dog off.
It’s common for people to add a fan to their dog’s house with an extension cord.
Clip or fasten it to the outside or inside of the dog house, depending on where your dog hangs out the most.
Be aware that if you leave a fan on in your backyard, you should always remember to turn it off if it looks like it’s about to rain.
Younger dogs may also not benefit the most from a fan, since they could be tempted to chew on the plugged in extension cord and hurt themselves.
Add Insulation
You may enjoy the look or build of a certain dog house, then realize later on that your dog actually needs something a little more insulated.
This happens all the time, which is why you can always add extra insulation.
There are a few kinds of insulation for you to choose from before beginning your project.
Some dog house companies produce insulation for their dog houses, too
The first is fiberglass insulation, which is actually made of glass. This should never come into direct contact with your dog.
Instead, after you install it, it should be contained within the walls of the dog house or be covered with plastic sheeting.
Fiberglass insulation works well in all temperatures and resists moisture, but can’t be touched or breathed in by your dog. It may not be the best insulation for dogs who chew on their dog house.
Another option is to use is reflective insulation.
It’s a roll of reflective foam that can be easily installed in a plastic dog house.
Reflective insulation is non-toxic and won’t accumulate heat, but doesn’t do well with insulating a dog house in cold weather.
Foam spray is the third type of insulation used when trying to insulate a dog house.
It can be sprayed in those cracks, corners, and holes that let in hot or cold air.
Foam spray won’t absorb water and keeps mold from growing where it’s sprayed, but it can be costly.
This is the best kind of insulation to use if the dog house is small or only needs patching up.
Add a Heater
You can also get “pet-safe” heaters which are installed through your dog house’s door, if you’re the DIY type
Just like with a fan, a heater can be added onto a dog house to encourage more warmth during the winter.
These can be installed in a dog house where your dog won’t lay right up against it.
The cord should also not be where your dog can chew it when they get bored, since it’ll be turned on most of the time.
Heaters can be left on for long periods of time as well, as long as they aren’t against a plastic wall that could begin to melt.
They’re used in dog houses across many different cold climates, so it may be the solution your dog ends up needing.
Put it in the Right Place
Where should you put your dog’s dog house?
It’s a simple question that many owners don’t even ask themselves until after the dog house arrives.
Where you place the dog house will play a key role in making it a comfortable home for your dog.
Don’t put it in an area where it’ll be exposed to constant direct sunlight or winds.
It also shouldn’t be left in a part of your yard that’s known to flood during rains. Raised dog houses will keep the water from getting in, but only until a certain point.
Your dog should also be able to easily access the dog house.
Where does your dog currently hang out the most in your yard?
That may be the best place to put the dog house and then see how it does there.
Conclusion
There’s no such thing as a simple trip to the store for an outdoor dog house.
There are many different factors and concerns to think about before you decide which dog house is right for your dog.
Think about the practical matters first. Your dog should comfortably fit in the dog house and be sheltered from the rain, snow, and wind.
Then the house needs to last. Constant rain, nightly freezes, and direct sunlight shouldn’t fade the colors too quickly or deteriorate what it’s made out of.
You can also always read the reviews and see what people are saying about it.
Will the dog house work once it’s put together?
How well does it hold up?
Doing your research before you buy your dog a dog house will get you the best purchase for your money.
It’s always good to be informed before you buy something your dog will use as frequently as they’ll use their dog house.
FAQs
What is the Best Dog House for Outdoors?
Anything that’s described as being weatherproof or weather resistant will be the best kind of dog house for outdoors.
There are other factors to consider too, but weatherproof dog houses should be the first thing to look for.
The Tuff-N-Rugged dog house is a good example of the best outdoor dog house on the market.
What is the Best Insulated Dog House?
The best insulated dog house is the ASL Solution’s Dog Palace.
It has up to four inches of insulation around the walls and floors, so your dog won’t lay against any surface that’s directly exposed to the winter weather.
Are Igloo Dog Houses Good?
Igloo dog houses are good for dogs that need protection from cold weather.
They have an offset entrance that keeps the elements away from the inside of the igloo.
The only way they could be better is if they come insulated or become insulated after purchase.
Are Dog Houses Good for Dogs?
Dog houses are great for dogs!
Dogs are descended from wolves that were used to having a den to run home to at the end of the day.
Dog houses provide dogs with a safe place to hide away in when they feel anxious, scared, or want alone time.
Should a Dog House be Off the Ground?
A dog house doesn’t necessarily have to be off the ground to be a good dog house.
If your dog will be outside during frequent rain storms or snow melts, that’s when it’s best for the dog house to be raised so they’re protected from anything flooding the dog house.
Will an Igloo Dog House Keep My Dog Warm?
Yes, igloo dog houses were designed to keep dogs warm.
All the heat they produce is kept in the main part of the igloo house, while the entrance to the dog house is kept at a distance. This prevents any excess cold temperatures from being pushed inside.
What Are Igloo Dog Houses Made Of?
Igloo dog houses can be made from a variety of materials, but they’re most commonly made with hard plastic.
They may also be made with structural foam, which provides better insulation.
Can a Dog House Be Too Big?
It’s always good to leave your dog with extra room to move around in and lay down comfortably.
Still, the dog house shouldn’t be big enough for your dog to have room to go to the bathroom in
Like with an indoor crate, dogs should have enough room to lay down, but too much room will go against any potty training they’ve learned.
Does a Dog House Need Ventilation?
Yes, dog houses need ventilation even if they have an oversized entrance.
Ventilation introduces fresh air into the dog house from all angles, which increases the likelihood that wind will get flushed through.
The more ventilation your dog has, the more comfortable they’ll be.

i was tagged by @aflowerinthesmog, thank you so much!! Rules: Answer the questions, tag fifteen mutuals!
1. Are you named after anyone?
i think my parents chose katherine just bc they liked it, but my middle name is actually my mom’s maiden name!! my brother, sister, and i all have the same middle name which i actually quite like.
2. When was the last time you cried?
i think new year’s eve?? these past few months have not been the best so i cry pretty often and pretty easily, but 2019 has been kind to me:)

well i’m a little young to have kids right now (i’d rather not be a mom and a high school student, thank you very much), but i definitely want some in the future! i’ve always imagined myself with a big family someday, so if my body can handle it i’d want at least four.
4. Do you use sarcasm a lot?
honestly? not really, unless i make it really obvious that i’m joking. it just isn’t a big part of my humor, even if i think it’s really funny when people use it right/in a way that doesn’t hurt anyone’s feelings.
5. What’s the first thing you notice about people?
i usually notice how they treat other people/how other people treat them?? like if i meet someone and it’s obvious the people around them like them, then i automatically have a higher opinion of them. then again, if everyone obviously dislike the person, i’m going to take that into consideration. in the end, though, i try to form my own opinions on people regardless of how other people feel about them.
6. What’s your eye color?
brown!
7. Scary movie or happy ending?
i HATE scary movies with a passion (i watched fifteen minutes of It and cried) so definitely happy endings lol

13. How tall are you?
just about 5′3
14. Favourite subject in school?
english for sure!! not only bc of my love for writing, but i’ve also been really lucky with english teachers for the past few years. three years ago, my ninth grade lit teacher actually inspired my current wip by forcing us to come up with characters, hence lark and eli were born.
15. Dream job?
an author of course, but i’ve been thinking recently that i might want to teach? probably elementary school bc kids make me laugh and i think that sort of job would make me really happy:)

I would love to have a dog too, but I can't afford one right now either. Do you have a favorite breed?
sooo manyyyyy I mean all dogs are #valid (and by no means, does this mean I think they’re all perfect angels bc They Aren’t but anyway)
First of all I don’t put a lot of stock in “breed characteristics” generally - I don’t completely disregard them, but I do feel like it depends very much on the individual dog, which is why I’ve talked a lot about aesthetics in the below posts. In terms of personality I’d like a cuddly dog, not too demanding in terms of physical activity requirements/restlessness. I’d also like a smart and obedient dog, but one with personality - I find a lot of people these days try to stop their dogs from ever barking and stuff like that and I really hate that. It’s a dog. It has to be a dog!! I’d like a loyal dog that trusts me to let it do its thing until Enough is Enough, and won’t lose their shit in an effort to “protect” me if I’m telling them to cut it out lol. I mean, this is all a dream world, right? But that’s the kind of personality & relationship I would want with any dog.
In terms of my favourite breeds from that point, I find that I mostly like the ones that will herd you; collies, kelpies, german sheppards, blue heelers, huskies, that kind of jazz (i said it was a lot didn’t I?) I’ve found I don’t tend to go as much for the ones with the animal-fighting sort of snout or stockier builds. Each to their own of course but in terms of my faves it’s babes like this:
Tumblr media
but in terms of actually getting a dog I would a) prefer to get 2 so they don’t get lonely while I’m away and therefore b) would go with a small dog because I would feel more capable of caring for it/them in terms of expense, space, confidence in training, and a whole bunch of things. I never used to be much of a small dog person and I find “little yappy” dogs kind of annoying (though ofc I still love them bc i’m a huge sap). I also don’t particularly like the look of maltese, poodles and those kinds, purely on an aesthetic level, but I love pomeranians, corgis, and that kind of thing.
One of the pairs I was looking at the other night in my little dog adoption fantasy land was Coco & Candy who are a real life pair of Jack Russel x Malteses up for adoption in Western Australia right now (link)
Tumblr media
I think they’re pretty cute XD
I’d say probably my FAVOURITE breed if I had to pick one would be Dachshunds, largely because I’ve looked after a family of 3 for a while and I’m in love with them. They have a lot of attitude, and you’ve gotta watch out for those back problems, but idk, in my experience, they’ve got a lot that I like in a smaller package. And I’m slowly building up my immunity to those eyes!!

NEWS as Dogge
So the Cross-Talk started great already. Since it’s a Dog Year, they had to look at dog pics and decide which dog breed corresponds to which member.
T: Who do we start with? This is fun~
S: Let’s start with Tegoshi. Wouldn’t it be one of the cute types?
M: Like a toy poodle?
K: Yeah, I see it, I see it.
T: Woah, is it ok, me getting such a cute type? Thank you very much~
M: Ah, but the blond hair, isn’t it closer to a pomeranian?
Tumblr media
S: That might be good too.
K: So I guess Pomeranian fits better. Since they’re flashy.
T: Okay, okay~ So it’s a small dog loved by everyone! ♥
K: Shige is ...Borzoi!
S: Which one? Which one? It’s so austere! (laugh)
Tumblr media
T: But it looks cool!
K: Siberian husky might be good too. Shige, do you want something cuter?
S: Wait a minute! Borzoi is Koyama! Look at its shape.
M: So thin! (laugh)
K: Hahaha! For real. It’s thin and its legs are long, this is me. Sorry, sorry.
S: Isn’t that Koyama in the photo, not Borzoi? If you take a picture from a distance, wouldn’t it turn out like this?
K: More like “Koyazoi”!
T: How about Italian Greyhound?
Tumblr media
K: It’s also so~ thin. (laugh) Well, I look something like this.
S: Thinking about this is fun.
T: Right? Today’s segment is fun.  (laugh) So going back to Shige, what’s it gonna be?
M: Maybe Dalmatian?
Tumblr media
T: The one from “101 dalmatians”? That’s good.
M: If someone who never met Shige asked “What colour is Shige?” you’d explain “He’s a little spotty” (laugh)
K: Isn’t Saint Bernard good too? Like a dog smart enough to be a police dog. It suits, doesn’t it?
Tumblr media
T: Ah~ It is like Shige. This one.
M: What about me? I think I’m similar to a Miniature Dachshund.
Tumblr media
K: Why is that?
M: Because my legs are short... Hey!
S: You said it yourself! (laugh)
T: I’ll pick one for Massu. ...Newfoundland.
M: Huh? Which one?
T: Find it yourself! (grinning)
K&K: (saw the picture of a dog with even shorter legs than the one Massu picked) Ah, That’s good! (the 3 laugh)
Tumblr media
M: Ah, found it! Woah, it’s cheeks are so sloppy. Of course it’s cute. But isn’t it different from my image?
T: No, it’s this one. I know. The dogs of this breed start drooling right away. Just like Massu. (laugh)
M: (bitter smile) I still think I’m more like a Dachshund.
S: Actually, I think a bigger dog might suit Massu. Like Retriever maybe.
T: No, should be one with short legs. So after all it’s Dachshund. ...Ah, Welsh Corgi is good. Look! Look!
Tumblr media
M: Yeah, its legs are realllly short! (laugh)
K: Hahaha! True. I guess this one is more like Massu.
M: So let’s go with Corgi.
S: Actually, Shar Pei might also suit him.
Tumblr media
T: Ah, Shar Pei is good.
K: Comparing ourselves to different kinds of dogs is fun. So to sum up, Tegoshi is Pomeranian, Shige is St. Bernard, I am Borzoi and Massu is Welsh Corgi. Would a group of these four even interact? (laugh) Ah, I just found pictures of Shar Pei! This is great! (laughing hard)
M: Which one? Which one? Woah, this one leaves a strong impression! (laugh) Its skin is so wrinkly.
K: Shar Pei is growing on you.
M: Well, since it’s very unusual and cute.
K: Right, right. Any puppy has its own special charm.
T: Yeah, they’re all cute.
It’s odd they didn’t pick pug for Massu, but I like Shar Pei, all that baggy skin. And Borzoi is perfect. But I still like Poodle for Tegoshi and Shige... idk maybe a German Shepherd. It’s smart, sensitive and handsome. There’s more to this crosstalk, I’ll translate another part later.

Hi. I'm looking to join with a character arriving to Souls from a different continent. However, none of the available ports listed on the guide would be anywhere near their country of origin. Am I allowed to have a port and ship capable of transatlantic travel originating from a place different from those listed? Also, I want to have two companion canid NPCs that I eventually turn into PCs. Is this allowed? Bonus, how strict is the limit on playable dog breeds? Would a pug lupeci be prohibited?
Hello! Let's take this one at a time. :)
Am I allowed to have a port and ship capable of transatlantic travel originating from a place different from those listed?
It depends. Most other large European port towns, like Liverpool or Amsterdam, are probably fine. The further east you go, the more likely multiple legs of journey may be needed, so your character may need to travel specifically to a port town before crossing the Atlantic.
North American ports are considerably more rare, and we prefer players stick to existing ports on this side of the Atlantic, though ships can, of course, always get blown off course and end up running ground wherever. If you have any specifics in mind, we encourage you to PM us directly as it can be difficult to answer this sort of question very broadly.
Also, I want to have two companion canid NPCs that I eventually turn into PCs.
Per our NPC rules, each played character is only allowed one canine NPC. But yes, you can eventually choose to turn such an NPC into a PC.
Bonus, how strict is the limit on playable dog breeds? Would a pug lupeci be prohibited
Breeds and breed characteristics that wouldn't survive in the absence of humans are not allowed -- so no pugs, sorry! Pugs and many other brachycephallic breeds require human intervention for their continued existence -- for example, most English bulldogs require C-sections to give birth. Other disallowed breeds include all toy breeds and extremely short-legged breeds like corgis and dachshunds.
Other than that, we're pretty flexible with regard to breeds. Realistically, dogs in the 'Soulsverse would largely be landrace dogs by now, with few distinct breeds. Purebred dogs are not allowed in the game, but we're not strict about character genetics VS appearance, so we still allow characters to look like many purebred dog breeds, even if they have to be a hybrid of some degree -- so wolfdogs that still look like pure huskies or pure collies are fine.
Hope this helps! We're happy to answer any other questions you have here on Tumblr, but we also encourage newcomers to join and ask questions on the forum or the Discord , which might get faster responses.

The best dog names, and how to name your puppy
Naming your family pet is one of  the most beautiful moment when owning a pet. Petbacker has been committed to help pet owners to decide how they should name their pets, and it took Petbacker more than 2 years to conduct a comprehensive surveys and gathered information from 400,000 pet owners in regard to the questions of “why you give this precious name to your dog” , “does the dog name match your character of your pet”, as well as “do you name your dog based on their breed”.
Based on our surveys, we want to share with all pet’s owner some inspiring and fun ideas that are relevant to giving names for your fur babies!
For instance, we found that many owners named their pets after childhood movie characters, famous celebrities, their human friend, different seasons of the year etc. It is amazingly shocking to note that there are even pet owners who named their pets based on numerological method.
Method that owners use to name their pets.
Tumblr media
Less than 4.5% of owners named their Pets based on Seasons of the year
Each season represents its special meaning. Some owners love to name their dogs based on the seasons and months which they were born such as spring, summer, autumn and winter. For example, babies who were born during spring season can be named Haru, in Japanese, ha ru は る) means spring. Some babies who are brought home by their owners in summer are directly named as summer. For babies born in the cold winter, they can be named as winter.
From the above ideas, the following are some of the names which you may take into consideration:
Spring - Asher, Abril, Lily or Spring rolls
Summer - Sunny, Lia, Lilac or Summer ball
Autumn - Pablo, Raven, Mooncake or Cinnamon
Winter - Polar, Santa, Sparkle or Gabby
More than 55.2% of owners named their Pets based on Human Names
Human names make great and meaningful names for dogs and puppies too. If your dog loves running, you may consider one of the suggested human names below to give him or her some cool attitudes.
Female dogs can be named as Anne, Anna, Angel, Alice, Lucy, Emily, Juliet, Amy, etc. Alternatively, the owner can use the characters from TV series as reference. Male dogs can be named as Jack, Nick, Mike, Peter, David, Henry, Irwin etc.
Less than 4.1% of owners named their Pets based on Foodie Name
Food naming method is also a very popular naming method. The pet owner can base on food names according to their pets’ fur colours or their own favourite food.
White fur – Tofu, Cauliflower, Onion, Garlic
Yellow-ish fur – Milk Tea, Coffee, Potato, Banana
Black fur - Cola, Sesame, Pepper, Seaweed
You can also call these little guys directly with your favourite snacks, such as pudding, buns, milkshake, noodle, cheese, cupcake, dumplings and other food.
To our surprise, about 30.3% of owners named their Pets based on Numerology method
Pet owners can actually name their pets using numerology naming method, owners will count the number belonging to their pets by deriving it from the dates of birth of their pets, and put a name that matches the pet birthday so the pet will have the character they want to have.
This can be done by finding the pet Life Path number, these Number can be obtained by adding the birthday numbers together until you get a single digit, for an example, a pet was born in November 14th, 2018, it would be = 1+1+1+4+2+0+1+8 = 18 = 1+8 = 9 …, So their Life Path is a “9”.
With the life path number, they will then decide what name to give so the number changes slightly to what they wanted. How to count a name with number so they add together to become single number.
For an example EDDY, E= 5,D=4,D=4,Y= 25 =2+5=7
Birthday date + Name = 9+7=16
The final digit would be, 1+6=7
Here you go ! Your best friend Life Path Number is a “7” .
Here are some of the attributes of the different Numbers :
Number 1, is a number that represents Self, and it brings a very independent character. If your pet has a name that reduces to “1”, you expect them to be more independent, this pet will probably be headstrong! Your best friend is going to do what it wants to, so be patient. They can make excellent guard dogs or protective animals.
Number 2, this is a Number of Cooperation and Relationships. This is the pet that will be happiest sitting in your lap! They will also like company, other pets, and humans. They don’t do well alone for extended periods. They can be naturally shy, and will dislike fireworks and thunderstorms.
Number 3, this is a Number of Creativity and Communication. With humans, they are likely to be on stage and often have a good sense of humour. They are quite social, and hyperactive, they love to be out & about, meeting new humans and other pets.
They are sometimes difficult to be trained due to a short attention span. They can be talkative too, so expect a lot of barking! They are typically good with children as they enjoy the busy energy that children brings.
Number 4, is a Number of Structure. Pets or animals with this Energy do best in structured environments. They like routines, such as feeding and training or exercise at the same times each day.
Number 5, This is a Number of High-Energy, Chaos and Adventure. These animals love adventure! They don’t like to be cooped up too. They love riding in cars, going for walks at the park. They might not be the best choice for small children, but they will be entertaining!
Number 6, This is the Number of The Nurturer. Ideally suited to home and family, this is a very devoted and loving animal. They love affection and are quick to give it too. They love to sleep in bed with you and will love cozy warm places to snuggle in. These dogs also make for the best service animals and can be trained to help a human who has disabilities.
Number 7, This is a Number of Intelligence and Curiosity. Your best friend would probably like games or toys that challenge them …plus learning Tricks too! But they often need their own space and time. They probably have their own favourite place, and it will probably be away from everyone else. They need space, so I hope your bed is big, or they will try to dominate the space!
Number 8, This is a Number of Abundance and Prosperity. They love studded collars, luxurious bed, even those animal-outfits! They love attention, and can be demanding. They are usually high-energy, be prepared to be lead around!
Number 9, This is a Number of The Philanthropist, Old Soul, Wisdom. They are Natural Leaders, but do not have a competitive streak, so not the best choice for a show animal. They are extremely sensitive. They know when you are hurting and when you are happy. They like a lot of physical contacts to assure that everything is alright.
Less than 3% of owners named their Pets based on Movie Character
Many young owners have their favourite cartoon characters, comic protagonists and so on. Hence, they can name their dogs by their favourite characters. For example, One Piece's Luffy, Qiaoba, Naruto, Kakashi, Doraemon etc.
About 2.9% of owners named their Pets based on Celebrity name
Pet owners do have their own favourite celebrities who they like and admire. Therefore, it’s pretty cool to name their pet according to the celebrity name, or the name of their fan club.
Imagine when he is running around on the street, and you call his name, people who passes by will think that there is a big star coming!

REVIEW
Dogs & Puppies Drawing & Activity Book Learn to draw 17 different dog breeds
by Walter Foster Jr. Creative Team
This would be a fun gift to give for a child’s birthday or just before taking a trip. I can see this keeping children busy on planes, trains or in cars for hours. Parents or grandparents might want to help out or even borrow the book to sketch themselves. Add to the book some colored pencils, crayons or paints along with extra paper and it is a gift that will be remembered for a lifetime.
Loved the trivia and have to admit I had trouble with one of the puzzles...oh my!
Did I like this book? Yes
Would I buy it for a child as a gift? Definitely
Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group – Water Foster Jr. for the ARC – This is my honest review.

Choosing the Right Dog Breed for Your Activity Level
Tumblr media
If you’re getting a new dog, then you’ve probably found yourself at some point wondering: “Which breed should I get?” Because there are so many breeds to choose from, selecting a dog can be a very difficult decision and naturally you want to make sure your new addition will be a good fit for both you and your family. When there are so many things to think about such as personality traits, size and, temperament; it can seem a little overwhelming at first to choose a breed. With so many things to consider when selecting a breed, it is easy to forget about one of the most important things to think about when adopting.
Your activity level
A very simple way of deciding on a breed that is sometimes overlooked is by finding a dog that matches your daily activity level. It is important when looking for a new dog, to keep your activity level in mind. Because they breed each breed of dog for a variety of different purposes, from hunting and herding sheep in a field all day, to purely for companionship. They all have their own specific jobs to do that require different levels of activity. To do these tasks to the best of their ability, each dog breed also has very different amounts of natural endurance. Because they all have such a wide variety of endurance levels, they also have very different requirements for how much daily exercise they need. A dog that is bred for a high-energy job that is not getting enough exercise will not burn off enough energy every day and may become destructive. This can also go both ways. If you are a very active person. You will want to get a breed of dog that can keep up with your high-energy lifestyle. Sadly, it is easy to over exhaust specific breeds. The good thing is, there are plenty of dog breeds to choose from no matter your lifestyle. You will find in this article that there are several breeds of dogs with a variety of different activity levels.
What if I am mostly sedentary?
Let’s face it, many of us have jobs that require us to sit at a desk all day. If this is you, you want to make sure you choose a breed that will be ok with sitting at home while you are at work. Especially if you frequently work over-time and do not think you have enough time to walk your dog every day. If this sounds like your lifestyle, then a low-energy dog that spends most of its time sitting, laying down and napping would be the perfect choice for you.The good thing is, there are plenty of different dog breeds that fit the bill. such as the: English Bulldog Chow Chow Shih Tzu Great Dane Pug Tibetans Spaniel Bull Mastiff Chihuahua Pekingese While none of these breeds need daily walks, they will still be up for a walk whenever you have the time. Most dogs appreciate a light walk regardless of their endurance. These dogs are also great for apartment living, as they do not need a lot of outdoor or indoor space.
What If I Am Lightly active?
If you enjoy the daily walk after work to unwind and relax, there are lots of dog breeds who would also enjoy going with you on a light afternoon walk. These breeds do best with a daily walk but are mainly content with relaxing around the house. Making them perfect for lightly active lifestyles. Some breeds that enjoy light frequent exercise are: Basset Hounds Minipinschen King Charles Spaniel Greyhounds Boston Terrier
What If I Am Moderately Active?
If you enjoy frequent power walks, cycling, hiking, and swimming and want to take your puppy along with you for the adventure. There are plenty of breeds that also enjoy these activities like: Golden or labrador retrievers Brittney German short-haired Alaskan malamute Staffordshire terrier Dachshund Foxhound These active breeds love adventure. Making them the perfect pets for a moderately active lifestyle.
What If I Am Very Active?
If you find yourself drawn to intense exercises such as running, cycling, swimming, or uphill hiking; once or even twice a day and want to bring your dog along for the trip, then choosing a breed who could keep up with your active pace without becoming over-exhausted will be key. These will be the breeds of dogs who have the most energy and endurance. Some examples of these types of high energy breeds are: Siberian husky Welsh corgis Aussie shepherds Border collies Bernese mountain dog Practically any retriever Irish setter Great pyrenees German short-haired Dutch shepherd These breeds are often used for highly active jobs that require them to have a natural endurance but that impressive endurance doesn’t stop when hunting or herding sheep. These active breeds will make great partners for an intense hike, bike or run. While there are a lot of dogs that fit well with their owner’s active lifestyle, it is also important to remember that not all dogs have the same endurance levels and you do not want to push your dog when gets tired. Some signs of dog exhaustion to remember to watch for are: Panting or trouble breathing Drooling and salivating Restlessness and agitation Bright Red Tongue An increased heart rate Pale or red gums Trouble breathing Vomiting and diarrhea These symptoms of over-exhaustion are important to watch for if your dog is one of the lower energy breeds mentioned above. They are sadly more prone to both overheating and over-exhaustion. So it is important to always know the signs and pay attention to how your dog feels in hot weather. Regardless of your activity level, finding a dog that is the right fit for you is the end goal of choosing a breed. With a little research, you can find the perfect dog breed for you.
