9 of the Best Pets for Families with Kids
Are you thinking about getting a pet for your family? Do you have small kids at home and are nervous about what animals will and will not work well with them? Well, this list is a great source of ideas and a perfect place to start when searching for the best pets for families with kids.
1) Dogs
Of course dogs would be at the top of this list! Everyone loves dogs and they’re the ultimate family pet. However, there are some breeds that are best for families with kids due to their durability, energy levels, and maintenance.
Bull dogs, despite societies misconceptions, are amazing family pets. They’re loyal, protective, are built like bricks walls, and require very little maintenance aside from cleaning their faces.
2) Pigs
This is an unlikely addition to this list but pigs are seriously great family pets. Much like a bull dog, they’re built strong and can stand up to the rough housing kids often do. They’re just as clean, or even cleaner at times, as dogs and are super playful.
3) Hamsters
Sadly, hamster became a common family pet because they don’t live that long. They’re branded as the “starter pet”, but really should be taken more seriously than that. Hamsters are fun, playful, and can teach younger kids minor responsibilities.
4) Guinea Pigs
In same the light as hamsters, guinea pigs often get chosen as the starter pet. But they’re even better than hamsters! Bigger, fluffier, and more playful. Sounds good to me! My kids loved their guinea pig.
5) Fish
A simple goldfish would do, but you can spruce up the tank with angel fish, bottom feeders, and clown fish. The kids love watching them and you can teach a little bit of responsibility with the feedings and cleaning of the tanks.
6) Birds
Although a lot of people find birds to be annoying and loud, they make really great family pets. They interact well with other birds, are easy to clean up after, and some breeds, such as budgies and parrots, can be taught to speak. Canaries and finches are really playful and are great with small kids.
7) Cats
There are dog people and then there are cat people. So, for those of you who prefer the feline variety, a cat would make an excellent family pet. They basically clean up after themselves, require very little training, and are super cuddly.
8) Snakes
Snakes are incredibly low maintenance and make a great first time, starter pet for families with kids. Corn snakes and ball pythons are the best. They only require to be fed once a week, cage cleaning once per month, and no special cleaners required. And despite what most people think, snakes very rarely bite unless starved or taunted.
9) Turtle
You never have to worry about these guys running away. They’re easy to take care of and live a long time. Turtles are resilient and co-exist really well with other turtles. Great family pet.
And that about wraps it up! There are tons of great first time pets or best pets for families with kids, but this list sums up the most common species to consider first.
Of course, if you’re ever in doubt, you can always go see your local pet care provider or quality pet store. They’ll have tons of information about what pet would be great  for your particular household.

5 Cleaning Hacks to Beat Pet Allergies
Pet allergies are unpleasant.
Itchy eyes, sneezing, a runny nose and wheezing can all make living with a dog very difficult. If you’ve made the decision to bring a dog into your home, or if you have family and friends who are allergic to your dog, there are plenty of ways to reduce the amount of allergens in your home. These hacks will help manage pet allergies and make life more pleasant.
Understanding Pet Allergies
Most people think they are allergic to pet hair; however, allergies are usually a reaction to the proteins in their dander (dead skin), urine and saliva. If you knew you had an allergy before you bought a dog, hopefully you chose a hypoallergenic dog which is less likely to trigger reactions because they produce less dander.
Hack #1: Have Some Dog-Free Areas
Consider having a few rooms which your dog isn’t allowed into. Don’t allow your dog into your bedroom or on your bed, and consider keeping him off furniture which you frequently use, such as your sofa. This won’t stop pet allergens spreading to these areas, but it will reduce the amount of dander.
If your dog is already used to jumping up on the sofa and bed, use allergen-resistant bedding and furniture throws to help reduce the level of dander levels you’re exposed to.
Hack #2: Say Goodbye to Carpets
Carpets can trap dog hair and dander making it difficult to remove even after a good vacuuming. Stick to hard surface flooring such as wood, vinyl laminate or tile. These surfaces are much easier to keep clean and hair & dander free. Vacuuming and mopping removes pet allergens quite quickly.
If you are set on having carpets, choose a low pile which is less likely to trap allergens. Please keep in mind that you should have them professionally cleaned frequently.
Hack #3: Bathe and Brush Regularly
If you have a visitor coming over who is allergic to your four-legged friend, you might want to consider giving your pooch the ultimate spa treatment to reduce the number of allergens. Unfortunately, this isn’t a great long-term solution for those living with the dog. It is only a temporary fix since allergens will be back in two to three days after the bath.
For those living with a dog and suffer from pet allergies, be sure to brush your dog frequently. This helps reduce the amount of hair and dander around the house. It is best to have someone who doesn’t have allergies do this a few times a week. It is best to do this outside to ensure fur and dander aren’t shed everywhere.
Hack #4: Use an Air Purifier
Using an air purifier with a HEPA filter can remove impurities and pet allergens from the air. These purifiers work by trapping particles which cause allergic reactions so it’s important that you use it in the rooms that your dog uses the most.
Place one in the room your dog uses most to help reduce the amount of airborne allergies. Use another air purifier in your bedroom. Even if you don’t allow your dog into your bedroom, the allergens have worked their way in there. Considering this is where you spend the majority of your time when you are home, it’s important that its allergy free. Use each of the air purifiers for a minimum of four hours per day.
Hack #5: Clean and Dust Regularly
Having a cleaning schedule in place will help to prevent allergens from building up. Invest in a pet vacuum which has been specifically developed to help remove hair, dander and pet odors. Dusting regularly will also help to keep dander levels to a minimum. Make sure you clean and dust all the areas which your dog regularly uses, as well as their toys and bed.
Parting Thoughts
You will never be able to remove all the pet allergens from your home. If you follow these helpful tips, you’ll be able to keep them minimized which will reduce allergic reactions and make living with a dog more comfortable and enjoyable.

Fun Ways to Exercise With Your Dog
Working out doesn’t have to be a drag! Now that spring has sprung, it’s time to get out and explore the great outdoors while finding fun ways to exercise. And what could be more fun than exercising with your BFF? Of course, dog walking is one way to enjoy sunshine and longer days together, but there are a number of other beneficial and fun ways to exercise with your pet, too. Let’s explore a few quality options right now, such as:
Jogging
If your dog has a lot of energy and loves action, introduce him to the joys of jogging. For dogs who’ve never done so before, it may take a little getting used to. But if you start slowly and jog at the same time each day, your bestie will eventually get the hang of things and you two can enjoy a great heart healthy daily workout together. For this exercise you may want to try a leash that fastens to your waist, but ONLY do so if your dog listens well enough to your commands and is not apt to cause harm or injury by pulling you too hard or too fast!
Swimming
Breeds like the Irish Setter, the Golden Retriever and the American Water Spaniel love being in water. If your dog enjoys the wetter side of life, then he’ll probably agree that this is one of the most fun ways to exercise with you and he’ll want to do it as often as possible!
Bike Riding
Dogs who are fit enough to endure a few miles of running will probably love bike riding alongside you this spring and summer. Like jogging, you may want to try a leash that fastens around your waist and that leaves your hands free to maneuver your bicycle, but only if your dog isn’t prone to pulling and obeys your commands pretty well. We also strongly advise that you only engage in this form of exercise with your pet on a designated bike path or on a terrain where you’re unlikely to encounter traffic from other vehicles.
Fetch!
Grab a tennis ball, a frisbee or your dog’s favorite chew toy and head on out for one of the most fun ways to exercise with your pet. Dogs that like to retrieve items will absolutely love this workout! For optimal results, make your fetch game challenging and rigorous. Also be sure to engage in this activity for a predetermined length of time and try to do it at about the same time each day so that your dog comes to expect it and you both develop a workout routine that sticks!
Walking
Of course, dog walking is always a great and fun way to exercise with your dog. Regardless of breed or age, all dogs enjoy at least two good walks daily! You may walk briskly or at a slower pace, but do walk your dog regularly to help him burn calories and excess energy (which can often result in undesirable behavior).
Before Exploring Fun Ways to Exercise With Your Dog…
Depending on your dog’s breed, he may respond to some exercises better than others. We highly recommend a vet visit before starting a workout routine just to make sure that your little fur buddy is ready to increase his daily activity. This is especially important for older dogs or those suffering from arthritis and also for dogs who’ve ever had a broken limb or have even suffered a recent illness.
Any activity with you is going to be a good time for your pooch, but we do want to advise you to take it slow at first. If your dog isn’t used to a lot of physical activity, be patient with him while he adjusts to your new workout regimen. Gradually introduce new exercises to your pet and give him (and yourself!) time to work up to your optimal workout levels.

Caring for the Dog that Cares for You
Much controversy has surrounded the rising popularity of ESAs (emotional support animals) in recent years, but the fact is, many with anxiety disorders, PTSD, clinically diagnosed depression, and other psychological conditions have been “prescribed pets” and these individuals can legally take their ESA pets where others can’t. Caring for these animals is a top priority in maximizing their support. There will be times when your support buddy has to stay behind. Or, for those with physical as well as mental disabilities, there may be a need for help in caring for an ESA dog (or other pet.)
Your ESA dog cares for you, but what kind of care are you giving him or her in return? Here are 3 key ways to ensure your pet continually gets optimal care:
1. Hire quality pet care when you can’t deliver it personally.
Let’s say you had to go to a hospital where dogs are strictly not allowed (even ESAs), you’re about to visit a dear friend who’s severely allergic to dogs, or you’re going to work, shopping, or anywhere else and, in a rare instance at least, you can’t bring your ESA.
Research ahead of time a professional pet sitting company you can trust. Don’t be left scrambling last-minute looking for a pet sitter and end up settling for second-best.
Also, if you aren’t physically able to walk your dog, give it a bath, groom it properly, or optimally care for it in some regard, don’t hesitate to utilize professional pet care services. No need to feel guilty because you didn’t do it personally – getting your pet the care it needs is what matters most.
2. Support your pet’s emotional health, even as it supports yours.
Caring for your dog, and just having him/her around, can boost your mood and help your overall emotional health. But what about your pet’s emotional health?
First of all, be on the lookout for signs Rover may be suffering from depression. Does he eat regular, sleep normally, get enough time out of doors, stay active, and seek attention? Compulsive licking, droopiness,” and showing the whites of its eyes are additional signs.
Second, make sure your dog gets enough exercise. Even a few minutes of quick play, running, or fetch, can help it relax for hours thereafter. Give it a chance to explore its world on a daily walk, challenge it mentally with “puzzle toys,” and arrange for time spent with other dogs (“doggie dates.)
3. Invest in a high-quality pet insurance policy.
A third area of pet care that’s often neglected is pet insurance. Only 1% of pet owners insure their pet, but ESA owners should surely be among those who do, given how much they rely on their pets.
The high cost of emergency care and a stay at the pet hospital forces many pet owners to choose between their pet’s well being (or life) and emptying their entire savings – or going into debt to save their pet.
Pet insurance protects dogs against most conditions they are ever likely to face in their lifetime, though it doesn’t cover preexisting conditions and hereditary diseases are usually excluded unless you add cover for them as a rider.
These are just three basic ways you can say “thank you” to your ESA dog that does so much for you: arranging for others to care for him when you can’t, watching out for his emotional health, and insuring him against accidents and illnesses.

6 Must Know Tips for Flying with Your Dog
A long-haul flight is never easy for any dog, even for the most experienced air travelers. There’s indisputably more anxiety for dogs than humans when it comes to travel; it’s simple — dogs don’t necessarily have a choice when it comes to traveling. It can be daunting since the road ahead of us is oftentimes unknown. Therefore, the more you prepare your dog for air travel, the smoother the journey will be. The bark-worthy news is that I’ve sniffed out 6 easy ways to make in-cabin air travel easy and healthy for our 4-legged companions. Here’s the scoop…
#1 – Ease Their Way In
Be a savvy traveler! First things first, don’t book a flight and expect your dog to wing it, especially if she has never flown before. Unless your dog is already highly experienced, chances are she needs to be eased into air travel. Road trips and train rides are great ways to get dogs comfortable with the motion of being on a plane. Once your dog has gone on a couple road trips or even train rides, she can advance to quick hour-long domestic flights to get acquainted with the airport, and of course, the plane itself. Gradually increase the flight duration until your dog is familiar and comfortable with the entire process. As for me, I went on several 6-8 hour long road trips and several shorter flights before my I felt comfortable flying with my dog from San Francisco to NYC.
#2 – Choose The Right Dog Carrier
Choosing the right dog carrier is key.  When shopping around for a dog carrier, bring your dog with you for a “test-sit.” Make sure there’s enough room for your dog to turn around completely, sit, and lay down in it. If your dog appears tense, she is very likely uncomfortable; so, do your homework and search diligently until you find the right fit. Having soft durable padding within the carrier is also important to help Fido feel comfortable. Keep in mind that airlines (especially if you have connecting flights) may differ in acceptable carrier size so always check the airline website for their required dimensions before purchasing your dog carrier. Some airlines also have a total weight limit (which normally includes the weight of your dog, too). It’s a matter of finding comfort and meeting the airlines’ requirements at the same time.
As a frequent traveler, I have two dog carriers depending on the airline that I’m flying; the first one is a pretty spacious roller bag/backpack that fits perfectly under most U.S. airline seats. As it comes with multiple features, it weighs approximately 3.4 lbs.
My second carrier is your average soft lightweight carrier that weighs a little over 1 lb.; although it offers an opening in the front, it doesn’t offer as much space than my other carrier so I only use it if I have to meet a strict weight limit. I once flew an airline that had an 11 lb. maximum for both my dog and her carrier so I didn’t want to take any chances!
#3 – Start Dog Carrier Training Early
Once you’ve found the carrier that is right for your dog, you’ll want to start training as early as possible to ensure that she feels familiar with and comfortable in it long before your scheduled flight. The concept is to transform the carrier into a wondrous haven. As soon as you bring the carrier home, place your dog’s favorite blanket, toy, and treats inside. Hiding treats inside the carrier at the beginning of each training session will entice your dog to go in to sniff around. After several sessions of uncovering yummy treasures, she will eventually associate the carrier as a place worthy of their wet noses. Allow her to sniff around freely for treats during the first few days of training. Gradually, increase her time inside the carrier to about 3-5 minutes daily and work up to an hour or until she appears to feel comfortable and secure inside.
#4 – Book An Evening Flight
The experience of air travel can easily cause stress as your dog is thrown out of her daily grind without certainty of the road ahead. One effortless way to help your dog through a long flight is to opt for an evening flight so that Fido could at least stay on her sleeping schedule. Booking a flight near or during bedtime will likely help your dog sleep through the flight. The longer she sleeps on the flight, the shorter and smoother the flight will seem to her.
#5 – Exercise Before Your Flight Takes Off
As the saying goes, a tired dog is a happy dog. That being said, it’s probably fair to say that a tired traveling dog is also a happy traveling dog. I don’t recommend excessive exercise or extreme physical activity, however, adding a couple extra minutes of exercise or playtime could help ease your dog’s way into air travel. Feeling tired during the flight normally equates to superb sleep. Again, the more sleep she gains, the shorter and smoother the flight will seem. If your dog is up for it, I recommend a good 40-60 minute walk right before heading to the airport before a long flight so she can then lick her chops while dreaming about beef jerky treats thousands of miles up in the air!
#6 – Limit Water Intake Right Before & During Your Flight
After exercising your dog, offer her fresh clean water and food. Never deny a dog of fresh clean water, but do be strategic when providing water right before and during the flight since you cannot easily relieve your dog on the plane (unless you have pee pads in the carrier). I choose to limit my dog’s water intake as soon we arrive at the airport. Most airports have areas designed for dogs to relieve themselves outside (and sometimes even inside). Offer your dog water (and of course, food) right after her walk before heading to the airport, and then once every 4 hours or so until landing. My veterinarian advised me that healthy adult dogs shouldn’t have a problem holding their bladder for 10 hours, but I still exercise this practice with caution. One option is to place a pee pad in the carrier just in case your dog absolutely has to relieve herself.

8 reasons you should adopt a cat
July is National Adopt a Cat Month and let’s face it: We love to watch cats whether they’re being silly, adorable, regal, or cranky. Cats are the reason we need the internet. Cat videos on YouTube have been going viral for years and can be just the way to put a smile on your face. Even though many of us are fairly convinced cats are secretly plotting to take over the world, they’re more than happy to live with you and let you be their servant…I mean owner. But regardless of their world domination propensities, here are ten really good reasons to stop watching those cat videos long enough to go get a cat of your own. And who knows, maybe your cat can be the next YouTube sensation!
  1. You can save more than one life by adopting a cat
Not only do you save the life of the kitty you adopted, but you can clear a space for more cats to be rescued and sheltered. Unfortunately, shelters have a limited capacity and many pets are euthanized before they are able to be re-homed due to lack of space or resources. According to the ASPCA over 3.2 million cats enter American pet shelters every year. Approximately 1.6 million of those cats are adopted. That means there are plenty who still need to be housed and cared for until they find their forever home! Consider the adage “the more the merrier!” When adopting a cat, consider getting a bonded pair or two cats (provided you give them time to get comfortable with each other). You can save two lives and your kitty will always have a playmate or snuggle companion when you aren’t home.
Cat fact: Often older cats, special needs cats and kittens, or black cats are considered “unadoptable” and are the first to be euthanized. Consider adopting one of these kitties when you are looking for a new pet.
2. Adopting a cat is a sound financial choice.
When you adopt from a shelter, your new kitty has already been spayed or neutered, given necessary vaccinations, and microchipped. Some shelters will even include a bag of food, collar and id, or pet insurance in the adoption fee. This will help you save in the upfront costs of a new pet. When you purchase a cat from a breeder you must pay for these expenses on your own. Depending on the cat and what type of lifestyle you have, you may also save on any training or house/litter training expenses.
3. There are a wide variety of cats available and their personality is already known.
At most shelters you can find almost any type of cat: young or old, long haired or short haired, in all colors and sizes. If you have your heart set on a specific breed, like a Siamese or Persian, you can also check for breed rescue or cat-specific organizations. These manifold felines spend their days with volunteers, behaviorists, and trainers. Each cat’s needs and personality is studied carefully so that you know what kind of kitty you’ll get. You may want an active playful cat who will entertain you for hours or all you need is a couch potato to join your Netflix binges. Either way, the shelter personnel will be able to help you find your match. Many pets wind up at shelters due to a change in family circumstances, such as a divorce or a move, rather than through any fault of their own. These pets are happy, healthy cats who are already house trained and accustomed to living with a family. No need to train them yourself, they come ready and happy to fit into your home!
Cat fact: Young cats and kittens can go through personality changes until they are fully grown. A snuggly kitten may not be a snuggly adult. If you want a specific activity level or personality, consider getting an adult cat. If they sit in your lap today, very likely they will be a lap cat for the rest of their lives. Since cats can live upwards of 18 years, you’ll still have plenty of time to love an adult cat.
4. Cats are good for your health, both mental and physical.
orange tabby snoozing on its back with one paw resting up by her faceAccording to a study performed by Deborah Wells, owning a cat (or any pet you adopt) can improve your sense of happiness and well-being and can help reduce the strain of stress, anxiety, depression, or loneliness. Cats can provide a quiet, soothing presence when we need it most, during times of strain or grief. Other studies have found that having a cat may reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease or stroke. One such study in 2008 showed that having a cat can reduce your risk of heart attack by up to 40% by reducing stress and anxiety! We’ve also found that a cat’s purr can help lower your blood pressure, promote bone health, heal ligaments and muscles with minor injuries, and decrease dyspnea. A study by the Journal of Pediatrics published in the National Library of Medicine states that having a cat in the home with children can expose those children to allergens at a very young age, making them less likely to develop allergies or respiratory issues later.
5. Cats are the perfect apartment roommate.
If you live in a small space, like an apartment or condo or even a dorm room (if the school allows it), a cat can be the perfect companion. Most cats instinctively know to use the litter box and scratching posts. They are less likely to track mud through the house or tear up the garbage than dogs. Cats tend to be neat and tidy animals although many do shed so invest in a good vacuum! Cats, with the exception of some long haired cats, require less grooming than dogs. Most cats take care of their own bathing and brushing without any help! Cats often don’t need as much playtime as dogs and will value their time lounging around the house or just being with you since they sleep up to 16-20 hours per day. They don’t require a lot of space and lengthy walks like dogs do. They can be fairly low maintenance, just make sure of give them plenty of toys and places to climb, like cat trees or window seats. Most cats are independent creatures and can frequently choose to keep to themselves. And when they do want to snuggle, they’re warm, fuzzy, and the perfect size for your lap. While cats are happy to be around their humans, they are able to stay home alone all day unlike dogs. Cats do not require as much constant care as dogs, making them a preferred pet of many busy professionals.
6. Cats are good for your home and the environment.
Mostly white calico cat sitting in a window reaching a paw out to a mouse standing on its back feet at the corner of the windowCats are good pest deterrents. They help keep control of any mice, rat, or bug populations. While some cats decide they’d rather befriend small animals, most are very good hunters. If it moves, they pounce! Many farms keep barn cats just for that purpose. The Working Cats program helps re-home otherwise “unadoptable” feral cats to work on farms and in businesses as pest control. Cats also leave a smaller carbon footprint on the planet than dogs do. The biggest factor in a pet’s carbon footprint is the amount of food they eat, and since cats eat far less than dogs, they leave a smaller footprint. In this way they are better for the environment than dogs. Just don’t let your house cat outside to attack the local birds!
7. Cats are wonderful companions, particularly for the elderly or other pets.
Calmer cats, particularly those that are older, can make wonderful friends for older adults. Their easy care and peaceful dispositions can be a blessing and stave off loneliness. Cats can also keep other pets company during the day. If you have a cat or a cat-friendly dog you may want to consider getting a playmate or sidekick to enjoy. Just make sure to temperament test both pets and give them time to adjust to each other.
Cat fact: Often cats are more reserved and stressed about their shelter environment. They need routine and a safe environment to flourish. It’s easy to see your future best friend in those cute dogs ready to wag their tail and lick your hand. But consider taking the time to get to know some of the cats in the shelter. They can be just as loving as a dog and lower maintenance!
8. You’ll change a cat’s life forever.
Not only can you be proud that you’ve helped a pet in need and created space for more pets to be helped, but you’ll get a new best friend out of the deal. Cats may be selective with their affection, but once you’ve earned their trust, you’ll have a loyal friend fur-ever. The quote about rescuing a dog can be applied to cats as well: “Saving one dog will not change the world, but surely for that one dog, the world will change forever.” So are you ready to head out to the shelter to find your forever friend? According to Indiana University Media School, people who watch cat videos were “more energetic, felt more positive and had fewer negative emotions, such as anxiety, annoyance and sadness after watching cat videos online.” If that can happen while watching cats, what do you think would happen if you owned one? And if you are unable to, then head on over to YouTube to get your kitty fix and lower your stress levels!

7 Reasons to Walk Your Dog
When your plugged-in, constantly-on-the-go lifestyle has you on the fritz, it feels impossible to take your dog out for a leisurely stroll. According to a recent study, 33 percent of pet parents rarely walk their pups. Only half pound the pavement with them each day. While it’s not always possible to walk your dog for hours at a time, you should be taking a long walk at least a few times a week.
Can’t commit? Consider hiring a dog walking company to give your pooch a daily dog walk. Many pet parents who are short on time find a daily dog walking service greatly improves their dog’s happiness, behavior and well-being. Whether you’re a responsible pet parent or a professional dog walker who works for a pet care company, here are seven reasons to hit the trail with your favorite dog:
#1: Improve Health & Manage Weight
According to the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention, 56 percent of dogs in the U.S. are overweight or obese. If yours is one of them, he’s at risk for bladder cancer, skin infections, heart disease, and diabetes. The Department of Family & Consumer Studies, has found dog owners walk at least four hours per week while non-pet owners squeak in an hour. Dog walking can lower your weight by five percent and your dog’s by 15 percent. It also improves your cardiovascular fitness, lowers your blood pressure, and builds your bones. “Mentally, getting outdoors and having a routine, as well as the release of endorphins from light exercise, reduces anxiety, depression, and seasonal affective disorder,” says Li-ran Bukovza, founder of Puppy Tip.
#2: Train Your Dog
Has your dog downed a whole frozen turkey or started plowing your flower bed? If so, he’s getting rid of pent-up energy. Walks are the perfect opportunity to curb his bad behavior while practicing obedience commands. “It is one thing for him to be able to ‘sit’ in the middle of your living room but a whole different story in a busy park,” says Steffi Trott, founder of SpiritDog Training. “By taking your training on the road, you’re able to proof commands and teach your dog that anywhere, anytime, can be training time.”
Trott suggests frequently stopping your dog on walks and giving him obedience commands like “come” and “watch me”. Consider stopping at street corners. Have him “sit” and then “down”. If he gets up, use the verbal correction “no” and command him again. Tired of leash tug-of-war? Only let your dog walk when his leash is loose. Stand still if he pulls and move forward when he comes back to check on you, letting the leash fall slack or changing direction every time he gets ahead of you.
#3: Make New Friends
Dogs can open the door to a new universe of people. “They’re fantastic “social lubricants” — a term that references anything that makes interacting with other people easier,” says Dr. Jennifer Coates, who serves on the advisory board for Pup Life Today. “People are more likely to strike up a conversation with you if you’re out for a walk with your dog rather than walking on your own or with other people. This can be especially beneficial for those who suffer from loneliness or depression.”
Dr. Beth Frates is the medical editor of Get Healthy, Get a Dog, a Special Health Report from Harvard Medical School. When she first adopted her Goldendoodle named Reesee, she started meeting up with 15 other women and their pooches at a local dog park. While the dogs honed their social skills, the women talked. Sometimes the relationships went no further than knowing someone is “Archie’s mom.” Other times they budded into life-long friendships.
#4: Strengthen Your Relationship
“Dogs have changed a lot since they’ve been wolves, but not so much that they don’t still enjoy traveling with their pack,” Trott says. While he wants you to step up as the alpha, you’ll have to earn his trust, loyalty, love, and respect. Regular one-on-one time can strengthen and deepen your bond. If your dog is timid or fearful, daily walks can give him structure and stability. That level of predictability also can skyrocket his self-confidence.
Already have an unbreakable bond? Insert some surprise into your dog’s everyday lives. He’ll realize that they need to stay in tune with you. Instead of walking the same route every day, try new paths and vary your walk times. Does your dog have a favorite post-workout treat? Let him have a peanut butter biscuit or turkey loaf instead. If Saturday is your designated “walk in the park” day, rock your dog’s world and go on Saturday and Sunday.
#5: Explore the Environment
“Even if your pet is unable to walk, there are still benefits to providing outdoor time,” says Beth Stultz-Hairston, president of Pet Sitters International. “Using a stroller to take him on a walk engages his senses outside of the home, as he experiences the sights, sounds, and smells of the outdoors.” Is your dog a drive-by sniffer, eager to inhale as many new scents as possible? Or does he hunker down and dedicate himself to smelling one location with great intensity?
Dogs of all ages should enjoy regular sniff walks. “Sniffing instantly lowers your dog’s heart rate, especially if he tends to be overly excited, reactive, or nervous,” Trott says.
The part of your dog’s brain that’s devoted to exploring smells is 40 times larger than yours. If you have your dog “heel” for the entire walk or pull him away from every lamppost, it’s like returning a gripping mystery novel to the library before finding out whodunit.
#6: Provide a Potty Break
Dogs normally poop once or twice a day. If your pup is constipated or starts going in the house, try two short walks. Some dogs move around during bowel movements because it aids in elimination. Potty breaks aren’t just about eliminating waste. They’re about communication too. Besides marking their territories, dogs use urine or feces as calling cards.  Dogs’ anal glands give off a musky smell when they’re scared. So sometimes, poop can alert other dogs of danger.  Urine is basically social media for dogs. Where you might check Twitter for breaking news, dogs want to check the popular pee spots to discover the sex, age, and health of their followers.
#7: Make Walking a Habit
Trott recommends getting a step counter and setting realistic goals. “In week one, walk your dog for 2,000 steps every day,” she says. “In week two, walk him for 3,000 steps every day, and so on, until you reach about 6,000 steps.”
Is your dog overweight or obese? If so, he is at higher risk for joint damage and osteoarthritis. It causes pain, inflammation, and bone spurs. According to the American Journal of Veterinary Research, 20 percent of middle-aged dogs and 90 percent of seniors have osteoarthritis in one or more joints.
If your older dog is battling the bulge, try five-minute walks a couple of times per day. “If he starts panting, limping, or lying down, you’ve overdone it and should dial it back,” Trott says.
Fetch! Pet Care is here to support your efforts in giving your dog the care he deserves. Call us for daily dog walking pet care service, we’d love to help you and your pooch out!

The best dog names, and how to name your puppy
Naming your family pet is one of  the most beautiful moment when owning a pet. Petbacker has been committed to help pet owners to decide how they should name their pets, and it took Petbacker more than 2 years to conduct a comprehensive surveys and gathered information from 400,000 pet owners in regard to the questions of “why you give this precious name to your dog” , “does the dog name match your character of your pet”, as well as “do you name your dog based on their breed”.
Based on our surveys, we want to share with all pet’s owner some inspiring and fun ideas that are relevant to giving names for your fur babies!
For instance, we found that many owners named their pets after childhood movie characters, famous celebrities, their human friend, different seasons of the year etc. It is amazingly shocking to note that there are even pet owners who named their pets based on numerological method.
Method that owners use to name their pets.
Tumblr media
Less than 4.5% of owners named their Pets based on Seasons of the year
Each season represents its special meaning. Some owners love to name their dogs based on the seasons and months which they were born such as spring, summer, autumn and winter. For example, babies who were born during spring season can be named Haru, in Japanese, ha ru は る) means spring. Some babies who are brought home by their owners in summer are directly named as summer. For babies born in the cold winter, they can be named as winter.
From the above ideas, the following are some of the names which you may take into consideration:
Spring - Asher, Abril, Lily or Spring rolls
Summer - Sunny, Lia, Lilac or Summer ball
Autumn - Pablo, Raven, Mooncake or Cinnamon
Winter - Polar, Santa, Sparkle or Gabby
More than 55.2% of owners named their Pets based on Human Names
Human names make great and meaningful names for dogs and puppies too. If your dog loves running, you may consider one of the suggested human names below to give him or her some cool attitudes.
Female dogs can be named as Anne, Anna, Angel, Alice, Lucy, Emily, Juliet, Amy, etc. Alternatively, the owner can use the characters from TV series as reference. Male dogs can be named as Jack, Nick, Mike, Peter, David, Henry, Irwin etc.
Less than 4.1% of owners named their Pets based on Foodie Name
Food naming method is also a very popular naming method. The pet owner can base on food names according to their pets’ fur colours or their own favourite food.
White fur – Tofu, Cauliflower, Onion, Garlic
Yellow-ish fur – Milk Tea, Coffee, Potato, Banana
Black fur - Cola, Sesame, Pepper, Seaweed
You can also call these little guys directly with your favourite snacks, such as pudding, buns, milkshake, noodle, cheese, cupcake, dumplings and other food.
To our surprise, about 30.3% of owners named their Pets based on Numerology method
Pet owners can actually name their pets using numerology naming method, owners will count the number belonging to their pets by deriving it from the dates of birth of their pets, and put a name that matches the pet birthday so the pet will have the character they want to have.
This can be done by finding the pet Life Path number, these Number can be obtained by adding the birthday numbers together until you get a single digit, for an example, a pet was born in November 14th, 2018, it would be = 1+1+1+4+2+0+1+8 = 18 = 1+8 = 9 …, So their Life Path is a “9”.
With the life path number, they will then decide what name to give so the number changes slightly to what they wanted. How to count a name with number so they add together to become single number.
For an example EDDY, E= 5,D=4,D=4,Y= 25 =2+5=7
Birthday date + Name = 9+7=16
The final digit would be, 1+6=7
Here you go ! Your best friend Life Path Number is a “7” .
Here are some of the attributes of the different Numbers :
Number 1, is a number that represents Self, and it brings a very independent character. If your pet has a name that reduces to “1”, you expect them to be more independent, this pet will probably be headstrong! Your best friend is going to do what it wants to, so be patient. They can make excellent guard dogs or protective animals.
Number 2, this is a Number of Cooperation and Relationships. This is the pet that will be happiest sitting in your lap! They will also like company, other pets, and humans. They don’t do well alone for extended periods. They can be naturally shy, and will dislike fireworks and thunderstorms.
Number 3, this is a Number of Creativity and Communication. With humans, they are likely to be on stage and often have a good sense of humour. They are quite social, and hyperactive, they love to be out & about, meeting new humans and other pets.
They are sometimes difficult to be trained due to a short attention span. They can be talkative too, so expect a lot of barking! They are typically good with children as they enjoy the busy energy that children brings.
Number 4, is a Number of Structure. Pets or animals with this Energy do best in structured environments. They like routines, such as feeding and training or exercise at the same times each day.
Number 5, This is a Number of High-Energy, Chaos and Adventure. These animals love adventure! They don’t like to be cooped up too. They love riding in cars, going for walks at the park. They might not be the best choice for small children, but they will be entertaining!
Number 6, This is the Number of The Nurturer. Ideally suited to home and family, this is a very devoted and loving animal. They love affection and are quick to give it too. They love to sleep in bed with you and will love cozy warm places to snuggle in. These dogs also make for the best service animals and can be trained to help a human who has disabilities.
Number 7, This is a Number of Intelligence and Curiosity. Your best friend would probably like games or toys that challenge them …plus learning Tricks too! But they often need their own space and time. They probably have their own favourite place, and it will probably be away from everyone else. They need space, so I hope your bed is big, or they will try to dominate the space!
Number 8, This is a Number of Abundance and Prosperity. They love studded collars, luxurious bed, even those animal-outfits! They love attention, and can be demanding. They are usually high-energy, be prepared to be lead around!
Number 9, This is a Number of The Philanthropist, Old Soul, Wisdom. They are Natural Leaders, but do not have a competitive streak, so not the best choice for a show animal. They are extremely sensitive. They know when you are hurting and when you are happy. They like a lot of physical contacts to assure that everything is alright.
Less than 3% of owners named their Pets based on Movie Character
Many young owners have their favourite cartoon characters, comic protagonists and so on. Hence, they can name their dogs by their favourite characters. For example, One Piece's Luffy, Qiaoba, Naruto, Kakashi, Doraemon etc.
About 2.9% of owners named their Pets based on Celebrity name
Pet owners do have their own favourite celebrities who they like and admire. Therefore, it’s pretty cool to name their pet according to the celebrity name, or the name of their fan club.
Imagine when he is running around on the street, and you call his name, people who passes by will think that there is a big star coming!
How to make your pets remember their name fast?
Giving a name to your pet is easy, but how do you want your pet to remember the name you gave or effect the change of name ASAP? We provide below some methods which you may adopt to make your pets remember their name.
1. Food temptation: After giving your dog a name, you need to patiently let him remember his name. One of the best ways is giving them food and treats!
2. Changing of tone: Under different circumstances, use different intonations to call the dog's name.
3. Name Tone: Calling names is limited to giving instructions and compliments, to give the dog a good impression. The next time you call its name, it will run to you right away.
After all the above suggestions, if you are still not sure of what name you give your dog, we would want to inspire you of what others named their dogs by sharing the names of the list below.

Best puppy guide and schedule
The first essential step when bringing home a new puppy is to give a name to him/ her so that your new furry friend’s transition is a success. If you do not have any idea on how to name your pet, here are some useful suggestions. In a nutshell, you can pretty much count on three things when you bring home a new puppy: the joy that your puppy brings, cleaning up your puppy’s mess and lifestyle adjustment. As you’ll soon learn, a puppy requires much more just than a food bowl and a doghouse. Taking care of a puppy can lead to great deal of work, but it’s definitely well worth the effort.
1.Finding a Good Vet
After getting a puppy, you should first bring your new puppy to visit the vet for a full body check-up. Consulting the vet will not only help to ensure that your puppy is healthy and free of serious health issues, birth defects etc, but it will also assist you in taking the first step toward a good health routine. If you don’t recognize any vet, you may ask your friends or relatives for recommendations. If you got your dog from a pet shop/ shelter, ask their advice as they may have veterinarians that they swear by.
2. Ensure that core vaccinations are given at the first visit to vet
Enquire your vet about what kind of puppy food he or she recommends, how often to feed, and what portion size to give your pup. Before setting a date to the vet, as an owner you should also set up a vaccination plan, such as discussion about safe options for controlling parasites, signs of illness to watch for the first few months, when it needs to get vaccinated, these will include the core vaccines, which are administered in a series of three age group, 6, 12, and 16 weeks old. The core vaccines include the DHLPP (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo, and parainfluenza). Your pup will also need a rabies vaccination, which usually costs around $15—20 depending on the vet you go to.
3. Shop for Quality Food
Your puppy’s body is growing in critical ways which is why you’ll need to select food that is formulated specially for puppies as opposed to adult dogs. Look for a statement from the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) on the food packaging to ensure that the food you choose will meet your pup’s nutritional requirements. Small and medium-sized breeds can make the leap to adult dog food between 9 and 12 months of age. Large breed dogs should stick with puppy kibbles until they reach 2-years-old, also to ensure that your puppy has fresh and abundant water available at all times. Feed multiple times a day:
Age 6-12 weeks – 4 meals per dayAge 3-6 months – 3 meals per dayAge 6-12 months – 2 meals per dayAge 1 and above – 1-2 meals per day, depending on the breed
4. Establish a Bathroom Routine
Puppies are usually not keen on wearing diapers, so they tend to make a mess around the house. Therefore, it becomes a high priority on most puppy owners’ list of must-learn tricks. According to the experts, your most potent allies in the quest to housetrain your puppy are patience, planning, and plenty of positive reinforcement.
Until your puppy has had all of its vaccinations, you’ll want to find a place at outdoor that’s inaccessible to other animals. This helps reducing the spread of viruses and diseases. Make sure that you give a lot of positive reinforcement whenever your puppy manages to potty outside and, almost equally important, refrain from punishing them when they cause accidents indoors.
Ever heard that your puppy is crying ? Don't worry, it's normal. It's just that if your dog is sleeping alone, he probably feel alone and he needs attention. Another posibility is that your dog wants to go to the bathroom.
Here’s a list of the most common times to take your puppy out to potty.
1. When you wake up.2. Right before bedtime.3. Immediately after your puppy eats or drinks a lot of water.4. When your puppy wakes up from a nap.5. During and after physical activity.
5. Watch for Early Signs of Illness
For the first few months, puppies are more susceptible to sudden bouts of illnesses that can be serious if not caught and realised in the early stages. If you observe any of the following symptoms in your puppy, it’s time to contact the vet.
Symptoms
1. Lack of appetite2. Poor weight gain3. Vomiting4. Swollen and painful abdomen5. Lethargy (tiredness)6. Diarrhea7. Difficulty breathing8. Wheezing or coughing9. Pale gums10. Swollen, red eyes or eye discharge11. Nasal discharge12. Inability to pass urine or stool13. Parvovirus
6. Teach Obedience
By teaching your puppy good manners, you’ll set your puppy up for a life of positive social interaction. In addition, teaching your pup to obey commands such as sit, stay, down, and come will not only impress your friends, but these commands will also help keeping your dog safe and under control in any potentially hazardous situations such as bitting other dogs or bitting harmful things such as wires.
Many puppy owners find that obedience classes are a great way to train both owner and dog. Classes typically begin accepting puppies at age of 4 to 6 months.
7. Be Sociable
Just like obedience training, proper socialization during puppyhood helps avoid behavioural problems down the road. Most puppies begin to accept other animals, people, places, and experiences at the age of 2 to 4 months old. Socialization classes are an excellent way to rack up positive social experiences with your puppy. Hence, ensuring that your puppy’s breed is able to contact with other animals, breed like Rottweiler, Pitbull Terrier, Czechoslovakian Wolfdog , Jack Russel Terrier etc might not be recommended as they’re considered as aggressive dog, to avoid any unnecessary situations, hence it is recommended that they don’t contact with any other animals.
8.Look out for any skin disease
Dogs are like humans, as a human we do have skin disease or acne, so do dogs. If your puppy keeps scratching and touching itself, take him to the vet ASAP as he might be suffering from a skin disease or any bacterial infection.
9. Make your house puppy proof
Puppies are always playful and fun, they love to run and play around especially in a new environment, they are curious about things surrounding them. Therefore, as an owner you should keep away items that can be damaged or shattered easily, keep all electrical cords raised or covered, and close all low windows.
10. Provide a nylon harmless, flat collar (webbed nylon or leather), and metal tag.
Poorly sized collars can hurt puppies' necks which would potentially injure their throats; therefore owner should ensure that the size of the collar suits your puppies. After choosing the right size owner can crave his/her own phone number as well as home address, if the puppy is lost, kind people are able to find the lost puppy’s owner based on the collar.
After all the tips, here is a brief schedule for your fido that we have collected from Snazzy Jazzy owner. Feel free to comment down below if you any tips and guides on how you train your pubs.

7 Signs of a Bad Pet Sitter
Pet parents naturally want the best care possible for their pets, there is a lot of trust in hiring someone to come into your house to take care of your best friends while you are away for a trip.
1. Personality Change
Tumblr media
Is your normally friendly and social dog or cat is showing great distress instead of welcoming you? Is he/she hiding and/or withdrawing? Is there any large holes from digging or destroyed plants? this could be sign of your dog may have been left outside most of the time.
2. Unexplained Injuries
Tumblr media
Are you pets experience any unexplained injury when you reach home? Signs to look for include a limp, cuts, bleeding, swelling of the limbs or around the face, and a general malaise. Furthermore, if your pet is fearful or hostile toward the sitter, it could mean sign of abuse.
3. Food Portion and Vitamin
Tumblr media
Is the Food portion being dispensed properly? If there are big portion of food not used up, it could be separation anxiety. However, if all the food are gone, there could be a possibility that the pet sitter could have fed it to her own dog, or just thrown it out.
 4. Feeding Area
Tumblr media
Is the water bowl dirty, or worse, completely dried up? Even if the water bowl has run dry from an accident like your pet knocking it over, an attentive sitter should be checking the water level daily at a minimum, and twice a day if the weather is especially hot. Is there any bugs on the food bowl? Has dry food gotten wet and left to putrefy, or canned food gone crusty on the plate? A pet sitter who can’t stay on top of the minimal is someone who should be shown the door.
5. Evidence of 'Accidents'
Tumblr media
Do you see or smell any evidence of “accidents?” Not so obvious indications that your dog was taken out too late can include a scratched up door, suspicious carpet stains, or a lingering odor. On an extended basis, your dog can develop bladder infections from trying to hold his urine for too long, and possibly even behavioral issues regarding his potty practices. If you are a cat owner, does the litter box show signs of neglect? Too infrequent or inadequate cleanings may cause your kitty to seek out other places to relieve himself, or refuse to use his box at all.
6. Lack of Respect for Your Property
Tumblr media
A good Pet Sitter always respect your property, always check your property to see if anything valuable missing, any tampering and the cleaniness of your property. Talk to your neigbour if there is any strangers visisted your home.
7. Minimum or no communication
Tumblr media
If there is no communication such as photo, video or posting on wall with the cheap data plan now while you are gone and a final update on your return, there maybe a reason for it. The bottomline is that the pet sitter should have performed her routine jobs with update.
What to Do with Bad Pet Sitters
Tumblr media
Making the decision to dismiss your pet sitter can be awkward and difficult, especially if your reason for doing so is nothing more than a sneaking suspicion. Regardless of whether the cause for dismissal is obvious or imagined, your pet’s health and well-being are dependent on your good judgment. Neglecting to take necessary action can have a far-reaching impact on both your psyche (i.e., guilt) and on the happiness and security of your pet.
Now that you know what to look for in a bad sitter you may have to start looking for a new one. You don't want to end up with another bad apple. Read our list of Top 11 Tips on Finding a Qualified and Professional Pet Sitter so that you'll be well-prepared to ask all the right questions.

10 human foods that are dangerous for dogs
Every dog owners knows that it is hard to resist sharing their food with their dogs, but while some human grubs are safe in small doses, others are downright dangerous for your pets. In fact, there are a lot of human food that you should never feed your dogs. Here are ten types of dangerous foods for dogs that every dog owners should know.
1. Grapes and associated products
Grapes are one of the most toxic human foods for dogs. Grapes can cause fatal kidney failure in dogs . Just a small portion of grapes can make dogs ill. 3.6 ounces (around three or four grapes) is enough to kill a 20-pound dog. If your dog has been affected, diagnosis and treatment is absolutely crutial. Some of the early symptoms of illness is vomiting over and over and loss of appetite.
Tumblr media
2. Popcorn
Some flavoured popcorn may be relatively healthily with low amounts of salt and unbuttered. But let’s be sincere: how often are you enjoying those so called 'healthier popcorns'? Popcorn sold in the market are often cooked with various flavoring agents. These agents are dangerous to dogs as well as human beings. For dogs, high levels of fat and sodium, typically found in popcorn can lead to dehydration in the short term, and obesity in the long term.
Tumblr media
3. Avocado
Avocado contains Persin, an oil-soluble toxin that can be dangerous to mammals except humans. The ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) claimed that pets who are sensitive to Persin may experience respiratory distress, congestion, fluid accumulation around the heart, and even death.” If you realize that your dog have consumed avocado, call your veterinarian immediately.
Tumblr media
4. Macadamia Nuts (usually found in cookies and chocolate)
Though there isn't any scientific proof that macadamia nuts are toxic to dogs, several cases have been reported that they cause vomiting, ataxia (the loss of control of body movements), weakness, and depression in dogs. Fortunately, if your dog accidentally eats a macadamia nut, the chance of recovery is high.
Tumblr media
5. Onion and garlic
Onions and garlic whether powdered, raw, cooked, or dehydrated, should be kept away from your dog because they can kill the dogs red blood cells, causing anemia (pallor and weariness) as a result of red blood cell deficiency. A small dose is probably fine, but a large dose can lead to severe poisoning.
Tumblr media
6. Coffee, Tea, and Other Caffeine products
According to the ASPCA, caffeine is a powerful stimulant that can cause vomiting, diarrhea, increased thirst, restlessness and an increased heart rate in pets, especially cats and dogs. Be mindful that cocoa, chocolate, colas, energy drinks and some cold medicines and pain killers could contain caffeine too.

7. Milk and Other Dairy Products
Cheese is probably the most popular dog training treat. Few people realize that it's actually dangerous for dogs. Though milk and other dairy products are less dangerous to dogs compared to other food, too much of it can cause constipation or diarrhea in the short term, and in the long term, obesity and a lasting gastrointestinal issue.
Tumblr media
8. Candy, gums, mouthwash, toothpaste and baked goods
Candy, gums, mouthwash, toothpaste and baked goods contain Xylitol which acts as a sweetener. It can cause your dog's level of blood sugar to drop and lead to liver failure. In short, Xylitol is deadly to your dogs.
9. Chocolate
Most people know that chocolate is bad for dogs, but exactly which ingredient is bad for dogs? As mentioned before, cocoa in chocolate contains caffeine which is dangerous for dogs. Another toxic component of chocolate is Theobromine. It can cause a dog to vomit and have diarrhea. It can also cause heart problems, tremors, seizures, and death if a large amount of chocolate is taken.
Tumblr media
10. Alcohol
Last but not least, here is the last dangerous foods for dogs--alcohol. Not every dog owner realize that alcohol is actually extremely toxic towards dogs. Even a small amount of liquor, wine, or beer can inflict serious harm to dogs. Dogs can suffer from vomiting, diarrhea, coordination problems, breathing problems, coma, and even death if they take in a large amount of alcohol.
Tumblr media
It is okay to treat your dogs to a small piece of your food, but as a pet owner, you should be able to discern human foods dogs can and cannot eat. Make your dog’s health a priority. Take necessary measures to avoid any harm to your furry buddies.

Why do dogs eat grass?
Many dog owners find it odd when they see their dogs chewing on grass and even swallow it. Could it be a sign of Pica (eating disorder characterized by persistent eating things that aren’t food)? Are they hungry? Sick? Or boring perhaps? No one knows exactly the reasons that dogs eat grass, but several ideas have been put forward.
Tumblr media
1. Feeling bored
Do you ever feel bored and try to look for something to do just to kill time? Dogs might to do the same as well. When they go to the yard themselves, but they find that there is not much to do there. Eating grass then becomes something they do to pass the time.
2. Texture and flavour
There is a possibility that dogs simply love the way grass feels and tastes. They look forward to eat something that is cool, fresh and textured like grass.
3. Dietary needs
Some claimed that dogs are eating grass in order to fulfill certain kinds of dietary needs. Perhaps their normal diets lacks of fibre, so they turn to grass to make up for it. Though this claim sounds valid, however no scientific proof was found to support this claim.
3. Ease stomach upset
Other people think that when dogs are suffering from a stomach upset, they turn to grass for relief. When they gulp a large amount of grass, they tend to vomit. And this act of vomiting can help ease stomach discomfort. Again, this idea is disputed by many others. As they pointed out, dogs are smart, but not to the extent that they are able to decide on a way to treat their upset stomach. Also, not all dogs vomit after they ingest grass. Many dogs are fine and don’t show any sign of discomfort.
4. Improve digestion and get rid of parasites
Another popular belief is that dogs eat grass to improve digestion and get rid of intestinal worms. By adding grass as an extra source of fibre to a normal diet, it can help to improve digestion. Although dogs are usually free of parasites, grass is a useful mean to get rid of those intestinal parasite. Plant material in grass can increase intestinal contraction and able to physically wrap up the parasites and carry them out of the body.
5. Traits from ancestors
Many people believed that dogs eating grass is a behaviour that is inherited from their ancestors. Before dogs become domesticated, they hunted down preys like mice and rabbits and feed on them to survive. They would have ingest the whole part of their preys’ body including plant material inside the bowel and this drives them to seek those plant material unconsciously. In the present day, dogs inherit this herbivore-like behaviour.
Most experts agree that dogs eating grass is a normal behaviour and this behaviour itself doesn’t possess a real risk to dogs, but bear in mind that certain pesticides or herbicides used in yard is toxic and some of the garden plants may be dangerous to dogs. All in all, best to stop your dog from eating grass. One of the way to stop your dog from eating grass is through training
