yes, absolutely @306saint ! if you're interested in a time period in particular, let me know and maybe i can give you specific advice, but otherwise :

the first thing i do if i want to learn about fashion in an era is to find art by contemporaries of that era, and to identify and compare people by social class and age. what shows up again and again? what do people wear in the street? at home? for my own research into the 1790s, i went to a museum and took a bunch of pictures of people in crowd scenes

if there's a very popular silhouette that defines that time (like the empire waist dress, the miniskirt in the 1960s), i try to identity what it's inspired by, and what comes before it : is it a natural evolution of that silhouette, or is it reacting to and opposing it? what are they trying to tell people with their clothes? comparing an outfit to what comes immediately before it will tell you so much about it, and even more if there's a specific historical event that happened around that time : a war, a revolution, a drastic regime change

usually what i will do is look at some art and draw my impressions based on that, and then i try to refine them in smaller details, that i might not have seen at first glance but will become more obvious to me as i become more familiar with the era. you also start picking up on popular fabrics, colors, hairstyles, accessories. and the thing is that there's really some small but key details that will firmly place your designs in an era, and that's something you will get a sense for as you go

so my concrete advice is to compare and contrast, and get some idea of major events and trends contemporary to the fashion that you're interested in, because that often really makes things click for me

but do beware of the misattributed pinterest dress ! try to find blogs, instagram accounts etc that list dates and creators for fashion. if you google "1880s women fashion", you WILL get a bunch of very wrong results. i would suggest doing research through specific designers or painters instead, or newspapers if these are around, and really pay attention to the years. post 1780s, fashion moves fast and the exact year can be important

also ! beware the treacherous 19th century artist! they will paint historical scenes but use contemporary fashion. it's fun though, i love being able to identify that a painting of marie-antoinette was made in the 1880s because of the shape of her skirt

My most controversial opinion is that MSpaint is a fine art program. I started drawing more in it intentionally out of spite because I kept seeing people just completely trash it and guess I get it it doesn't have a billion layer modes or pens or even layers itself but it's not for that. It's not truly for digital art in the modern day as we know it I think. I think it's for painting. And I think it's pretty good at painting. The couple of paintings that I've done in it I was very impressed by the pen control and textures of the paint brushes... I also think it's very good at pixel art! Actual little sprites!! And as someone who has made cleanlined colored full bodies in it, yeah its a fucking pain in the ass. But I think I like drawing an MS paint for the same reason I like making comics in sketchbooks smaller than my hand. I think it's a perfectly fine program for what it is! It's made for paintings and sprites and scribbly one pixel brush sized vent art when nothing else feels good but the scratch against the graphics tablet like tearing up a paper with a mechanical pencil

(Or my personal take on the player in Pressure's Game Lore)

M-██████ - Codename: The Traitor, is a specifically made variant of M-████ made by Mr.█████ for the Blacksite Mission. (See document █████████ for more information)

Infected individuals by this variant are called Sleepers.

It has been modified to only find suitable Sleepers signed under the EXR-P unit. In the case of its current Sleeper dying, it will infect another EXR-P.

It is oblivious to its change of Sleepers, viewing its next run with its new Sleeper as another life. Though it does not grasp the concept that death is permanent and not reversible, viewing its next life as a normal phenomenon.

Due to its natural inclination to seek knowledge and take everything it can, it tends to gather all loose assets and all valuable equipment it can carry.

It excretes a colorless and odorless gas that Sleepers exhale, attracting Z-V06 when concentrated in an enclosed area, like lockers.

However, Sleepers inhaling this gas for too long in an enclosed area showcases symptoms of cleithrophobia and causes the Sleeper to leave the enclosed area immediately.

The smoke Z-283-Chainsmoker emits exacerbates this symptom.

As motivation for it to kill its current Sleeper before it can reach the Crystal, Mr.█████ has made a way to give it more information about the facility and its hazards when it changes Sleepers through the usage of the Saboteur's abilities.

It's shown to be effective during the early stages. Though currently, an unfortunate side effect of this action is that it now seeks out to survive until at least room 50 in order to meet the Saboteur.

[In the case that it reaches the Crystal, it will naturally make its current Sleeper fall down to their death before they can take the Crystal.

However, in its perspective, it believes that it actually took the Crystal and had to survive more rooms before it could 'win' thanks to Mr.█████'s abilities.

Depending on how it performs in this illusion, it will either meet the Saboteur as always when it 'dies' or transfer directly to another EXR-P unit thinking that it 'won'.]

M-████ - Codename: █████████, are entities found in the █████████████ capable of entering the minds of people, taking root in the victim's brain to control their entire nervous system.

However, it is incapable of feeling the pain its infected individual experiences, leading their victim to be more susceptible to injury without being able properly treating it since it lacks proper self-preservation instincts.

Infected individuals lose autonomy on their own body, making them incapable of moving or talking. They remain conscious and self-aware even if infected severely, only retaining their capability to have their own thoughts and mind.

Dissections of the infected individuals showcases signs of brain damage left behind from a bright metallic-like substance, almost akin to mercury. Though most individuals have survived and recovered after being infected and released.

Transmission of unmodified M-████ is unpredictable as it is not traceable through any physical means. Though observations from known infected subjects showcase that key individuals in an infected subject's life can be more susceptible to being infected by M-████ as well.

One thing that is known about M-████ is that it has a natural inclination for seeking knowledge and taking everything it can, sometimes to the expense of the individual it has infected.

So for anyone unfamiliar court painter Rachel it basically just started as Prince!Alabaster x Guard!Ethan x Court Painter!Rachel and it kinda just spiralled from there.

The main plot is basically just schemers scheming with a side plot of every single character, bar maybe 2, is abusing or has abused their power in some way /hj.

Our main background is that Rachel’s parents are both members of Hecate’s court. When she was a kid she lived in [whatever the name of Hecate's kingdom is, I'm bad at naming places] and was friends with Al, but her parents sent her to Hades' kingdom, the neighbouring kingdom, for what was basically a finishing school (ik that's not technically the right term for whatever period of time this au is inspired by but it's close enough). However, they didn't account for the fact that she was in another kingdom, away from them. So girl fucked off to do art for Hades kingdom. When Alabaster found out he immediately sent for her to move back, under the guise that he was just an interested sponsor of the arts, because he, like his mother, is very bad at handling change! This will cause problems! So Rachel's having to deal with the fact that she disobeyed her parents and they can't do anything but silently hound her for it because they have a lot more to gain if they keep being nice to her (more on that later)

Moving over to Alabaster and what's been going on in Hecate's kingdom, things have been going well (assume this is the last time you will see this phrase). Al and Lou have been doing well, with Al preparing to take over from Hecate when the time comes and Lou exchanging very flirtatious letters with the princess of Hades' kingdom, Hazel! Alabaster has been trying (and failing) to not flirt with his new guard, Ethan. Hecate being... Hecate has given Al more power than he should probably have for his age, but surely nothing bad will ever come of that!

Ethan's been doing a lot, he's been trying to live up to his mother's image because she's very feared respected by people. His father does... something. Becoming a royal guard wasn't his original goal but Nemesis pushed him towards it.

That's our general character background, there's more characters but these 3 are the focus, moving away from the bg, I should probably get into the main plot (keeping under the cut both because spoilers and also this is long already

OH BABY THE PLOT!!!

As I said before, it's basically just schemers scheming.

Mr. Dare has realised that if he sets up Rachel and Alabaster, he gets to have a lot more power than he ever would as a courtier. The problem being: Rachel kinda hates him, so he just has to grit his teeth and try and be nice to Rachel just so he can invest in his own future. Rachel is aware of this and is very much not a fan.

Nemesis is very similar to Mr. Dare, in that she's trying to get more power through her kid, the difference being Nemesis has someone working with her. Enter Morpheus, everyone's least favourite chancellor (/aff). Morpheus is a lot of things in this au but he is mostly the worst. I love him, but he's the worst. He and Nemesis are working together, mostly. They disagree on a few things (murder) but they'll probably be fine.

As I've put in this drabble, Ethan and Rachel do not like that their parents are plotting, so that's mostly how they bond, over their anxieties of the future. Alabaster isn't completely oblivious, for all his pining and trying to make his life a romance book, he's not foolish. He has grown up around courtiers trying to take advantage of him, he can tell when people are plotting. It's a trait he and his mother both share in this au. But he also knows Ethan, and Ethan loves both of his parents more than anything and probably won't want to feel like he needs to choose between his mother and his partners. So he doesn't got to Ethan, he goes to Rachel.

There's other smaller plotlines that I still need to work the kinks of (a personal favourite of mine is one that starts with "oh sweet, I think I've made a friend here" and ends with "aita for accidentally causing a breakup" while it does have a place in the greater plot, it sounds so funny in my head when it pitch it like that) but generally I am just trying to see where the characters pry their way to.

This didn't have as many vague spoilers as I wanted hang on Father issues suck don't they? Ethan can't relate to that, he loves his father. Damn I wonder what would happen if he ever were to meet our two other main characters. Surely it won't throw a wrench in any plans.

hate to say it but my urbanspook au blog, meatbricks, has been deleted.

i no longer enjoy writing for this series or engaging with the fandom. i still appreciate the idea behind the series and what it sets out to do for the analog horror genre as a whole, but i no longer feel much, if any, attachment to the characters, setting, newer concepts, or fanbase.

i'm grateful for those who followed and supported my blog, and if you're reading this, i will forever be glad that you enjoyed my work and that i was able to connect with you this way. thank you so much for everything.
