the further i get in my wok reread the more apparent it is to me that kaladin's depression is so central to who he is that you cant think of him as a protagonist w/o considering it. and yeah the premise of the radiant magic system means that people who are actively trying to heal from various traumas are gravitated towards pursuing oaths that help them do so but it's really good that all of kaladin's childhood flashbacks are like yeah no the depression was clinical. it was always there. all that terrible shit also happened and he is getting better but no matter how many ideals he swears he's still gonna have to deal with it. meg thee stallion said it best 😔 bad bitches have bad days too.

#its been so many years since i started reading these and that was one of the biggest draws of kaladin as a main character #like it was what set stormlight apart ESPECIALLY in the 2010-2 edgy fantasy boom that plagued us for years #im rereading very slowly for me i think ill just take this evening and knock the rest of the book out so i can move on to my best friend wo #stormlight reread 2024

In light of Rogue's brief return I feel like I should throw my theory that the mysterious someone he lost was a previous incarnation of the Doctor in the ring before canon confirms or debunks it. Specifically one of their lost lives that got wiped considering they don't (consciously) recognize him—like with Anansi's daughter. Assuming Rogue isn't somebody we already knew with a new look

A few silly little small sculptures that I made with some of the leftover clay from the main one I did recently

#sculpture #birds #neopets #sparkly little aishas my beloved.....#Though I actually kind of liked them with a matte finish more?? I wanted to try out making them sparkly and shiny..but #I think they might have looked better before adding all the shine. BUT I kind of like both. Maybe I should make two more that aren't shiny #just to have variation lol... an entire army of tiny aishas.....#The little house is so bad lol I hada headache at that point and kind of just wanted to get everything over with #(I bake the clay all at once so I had to get the smaller ones done to go with the main one)#and was like.. zero effort into making things line up or measuring at all. one window on one side is like twice as big as on the other lol #but I think from afar ifnot examined too closely it's still kind of cute. The birds were also just random like 'what can I shape out of thi #s small blob of clay I have leftover' etc. I did actually put irridescent eyeshaow on the pigeon but it just doesnt show up in photos ToT #The other bird is not anything in specific... some sort of random fantasy creature bird with slight purple on it's wings or something #The strawberry is exclusively just a quickly done accessory for the birds.. I wanted them to have a little meal to share #even though I dont know if birds eat strawberries #the last picture in the set is them all sitting on a shelf (the most well lit place I could find) but looks weird #since it has all of my avocado pit eyes in the background......... ominous backdrop for such peaceful little creachures..#you kind of cant tell what they are from that angle though i guess lol

Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but I absolutely love the recs you've given (you've introduced me to tomione, and I love it!) and I was wondering if it's possible to give you some recs in return? There are some books and fics that definitely have dramione / got vibes, and I was wondering if I could share them with you!

So glad you've enjoyed them! Feel free to rec me anything you want. I've read most of the classic recs in terms of fic and adjacent content (Cruel Prince et al), but I'll try anything that's well-written. My tastes run towards weird and/or audaciously creative stuff, and I can forgive a lot of weaknesses in plot on the grounds of (1) ambition or (2) character work. My turnoffs are instalove, protagonists who can't fail, and most Y/A (I'm not a hater, I swear, I just need characters who can say "fuck" when their leg gets chopped off.)

I'm also a fan of weird and fucked-up dynamics.(Wuthering Heights was my favorite book for a while, and as a teenager I wrote an AU in which the book ends on a long sex scene where Heathcliff fucks Cathy's ghost and then immediately gets murdered by Catherine 2.) Obviously, I am very normal.

#greenteacup asks #my beef with Y/A is mostly expressed in a dissonance between tone and content #LOVE the content. dystopia fantasy horror sex and blood — awesome. but question. why are they all saying 'darn'?#like in the vampire diaries where they'll watch people get eaten and then 2 episodes later be like 'omg SCHOOL DANCE'#(EDIT: actually in fairness. on the vampire diaries. it was mostly just caroline that did that. unfair example my apologies)#& i distinguish this critique from a common bitch-and-moan complaint about tv shows being interested in 'girly' things #like relationships and social standing. that is not my complaint. that shit is delicious. i will chomp that shit for days #my issue is that when the stakes oscillate wildly from episode to episode and i can't tell what the main thing is #like sorry. a story with murder in it is always going to be about murder. you can't make it not about murder #unfortunately! many have tried.#and in general i have difficulty reading about teenagers bc—#(she says having written 600k words about them OKAY I KNOW. i contain multitudes.)#because they're either mini-adults (preferred flavor. jude in the cruel prince nails this) or like leetol babies to me #and unless it's something like the hunger games where the Leetol Baby thing is part of the story #i'm like. hang on. you're 12 what are you doing here #percy jackson was hard for me to re-read as an adult for this reason #which is why they're enjoyable for teenagers! because as a teenager you DO feel like an adult #and you like reading books that treat you like one! nothing wrong with that! healthy even!#only then you get past the teenage years (mashallah) and you get stuff like twilight #where of COURSE bella doesn't think twice about 117 year old man falling in love with her #because he looks like a rich mysterious 17-year-old hottie #but you reread it later and it's like um well. that. could be explored a little more maybe.#i'm not even necessarily opposed to it. candidly. still team edward. i just think the dynamic should be more fucked up and juicy.#which Y/A authors are often reluctant to do. like. Aldrich is as strong as ever helming a killer #fantasy sequence... tbh the more i think about it the kinder my memory of this becomes. it has just one main flaw and that's that it isn't #Baby Jane. but then what is? Aldrich never quite hit those heights again (tho he did some p great work) and this is a commendable try

m flipfloppin between giant and totem (def reskinned) for her rn! giant would be Really funny for junior year and there's some thematic stuff for the transformation element I think would be interesting, but just purely on a character basis I think fig would love totem esp. as a barbie girl in freshman year. if I land on totem I kinda imagine it like a wuxia animal style thing tbh, mostly just because the idea of someone coming into a fight expecting typical movie shaolin choreography and getting Teenager That Mauls You To Death is entertaining to me
