speaking of, icymi in a panel show miracle earlier this year an anonymous source provided beautiful archival copies of the first 12 series of nmtb — so this is the perfect time to revisit its classic era!!

junior taskmaster just wrapped up its first season! very wholesome, for the whole family (don't forget to check out the taskmaster podcast discussions for each episode, hosted by ed gamble!)

there were some great eps of cats does countdown this year but this one was probably my standout<3

Rapid-fire review of UTH where I just rate some of my favourite and least favourite moments wrt Jason's bpd/cptsd symptoms

1. Duffle bag of doom: 5/10

Starting tame, I'm undecided about the duffle bag because on one hand it we do get an explanation for that that doesn't outwardly have anything to do with mental illness but on the other hand I keep saying "cptsd doesn't make you behead people" because somehow that's what people keep insisting is the correct analysis for this scene?! Idk, maybe it's the shock value that makes it look so much like demonization. Treading dangerously, I'd say.

2. This man cannot stop yapping about how extraordinary Bruce is and the awe his presence makes you feel: 9/10

Love it love it love it. They should put this part right next to "extremes of idealization" in the dsm-5 bpd criteria. Literally just docked a point out of pettiness because I didn't like the interaction with Onyx right before.

3. Why is he doing that. Seriously why: 2/10

Look, in theory I do know why Jason's killing goons rather than black mask. DC can't afford for jason to kill them all, they probably gave winick like one shot at a rogue and he wisely decided that fuck nazis actually. But in story it just doesn't work with the goons, i can get behind killing like a rapist but the driver? Never explained why he would be chill with that, even feels in contradiction with Jason's decision in Lost Days when Lost Days are supposed to help us understand! Same for the gang leader part, we get the explanation that Jason has reached the conclusion this is the best option but it's never explained why? It also does feel pretty classist to have the kid from crime alley, who batman "rescued from a life of crime" by making him robin, become a gang leader, and as a whole the thing feels just so like, I can't reconcile post crisis jaybin, with his love and relationship to Willis Todd, and this, I need a satisfying explanation and it's never given, the only difference between here and Lost Days is that he's having an episode. It's just too weird. I genuinely think by making him attack different criminals rather than goons we'd have avoided this problem but again, hard to call a character a psychopath if he's only killing rapists I guess. Idk how much of that is psychophobia, how much is classism how much is the expectation that we'd agree this is the logical conclusion of Jason's opposing philosophy without questioning it and how much is me being a hard client for being dissatisfied by the granted explanation but like, it's really really frustrating.

4. Oh, beloved 10/10

Look at him. He's splitting so hard. The crisis triggered by the god falling from his pedestal with a dash of mirroring -yes yes yes yes that's the good shit. Love that panel.

I dont like the “the memory of soandso is bruces favorite the ghost of who x was is bruces favorite” it reads as like hamfisted to me a little and i dont like the favouritism thing bc if Bruce has favorites its definitely not in the sense of “this is my favorite CHILDSON” overtly instead it would be “this is my favorite PERSON on EARTH” but never stated by Bruce himself just mystically in the air (although obviously canonically picked up on and stated by others yadayada saltandpepper evil superman OMAC panels) and parents genuinely do love ALL of their children but the speculation is right in the sense that parents really do still (most of the time) have favorites therefore its ok to speculate and actyally the definitive personal ranking of Bruce’s favoritechild list is Dick, Tim, Cass, and then Damian and Jason are on the same level (loved very very much, just not the favorites) Tim is often subordinated to dick and cass in favouritism talks (part of the larger dialectical effort of like trying to “save face” by ppl who havent read the comics or bg2000 but who want to include her—although obvs there IS stuff there to indicate bruces favor + ofc thé “all i ever wanted” thing would of course touch bruces heart intensely but many of the tumblr posts abt it seem like overcompensating and unfamiliar-with-her-character idk) but subtextually like imagine having a 13yokid literally genuinely save u from the lowest points of absolute despair like an angel and restore you to your like new greatest point and also restore some of your broken deeply important personal relationships (esp w ur estranged eldest) in the process like the level of reverence and awe and adoration u would have for that person is a lot so his love for Tim is charged and perhaps skewed by that so i think Tim (esp 90s tim) is up there bc subtextually bruce owes (as in indebted toward, not reparatively or like owes justice) tim something that he does not owe the others and that kind of patron relationship (u opened up my whole world) is so fundamentally parent-child that Tim gets a bigger stake of bruces heart. But of course the dick story is like the primordial version of that dynamic which is why dick is The favorite

ok but also one of the major reoccurring issues with rogue and gambit is that rogue cant touch him right like its arguably the main issue, which is why their relationship in gambit vol3 is one of my favourites bc that dynamic gets reversed and its so interesting

in gambit vol3 its revealed that years ago gambit got a lobotomy to significantly inhibit his powers, and the way thats revealed is the lobotomy is reversed and gambit starts getting all his powers back. because of these huge power ups gambit is able to create some kind of kinetic barrier over himself which allows rogue to touch him (this isnt the first time they kiss but to my knowledge its the first time they kiss without something shutting off rogues power) and they spend a few weeks together with this new normal. then its revealed that one of those huge powerups gambit un-lobotomised is the ability to charge organic matter, an ability he cant really control which leads to these panels:

which is so so interesting to me like. i dont remember if this is explicitly stated but i would guess ‘i could accidentally explode anyone i touch’ was probably pretty high up on the list of reasons gambit got the lobotomy in the first place yk and i feel like that adds so much to his reaction to ‘i am a danger to everyone im physically close to’ because thats something he also had to deal with and actually couldnt deal with to the point of going to dr sinister for help (and even when he gets his powers back as an adult he removes them again less than 10 issues later) idk i think it gives him more respect and understanding for rogue i really enjoy it 10/10

!!!SBG SPOILERS CHAPTER 77!!!!

THIS CHAPTER WAS EVERYTHING HOLY FUCKING SHIT!

The dynamics between the kids and how comfortable they've gotten around each other, especially with how Ashlyn was totally okay with Taylor and Aiden messing with her hair-- which is something I absolutely adore in this chapter she looks amazing and badass. The fact that Logan felt comfortable enough being snarky like that is also everything. Like this kid has been bullied relentlessly and the fact that he knows he can be snarky and mess with Tyler like that without getting hurt because of it shows so much growth. And the little moment of childish delight between Taylor and Aiden at the idea of racing around and the fact that Ashlyn doesn't tell them to focus or be serious but instead tells them they can do it later?? Early Ashlyn would get so annoyed and now she's just chill with it because she knows they all have their own ways to cope and deal with the stress and that's honestly so sweet.

Also, Ben using sign language and being understood and the others trying to find solutions so he can warn them of danger or something he is about to do is so sweet. They're so accommodating and caring to one another without even having to think twice, it's honestly so sweet.

Alex helping them with the card without question is really sweet but I have bad feeling it's gonna backfire on him and I don't like it.

And the rules of the phantom dimension are literally so weird. So technically they don't need to sleep or eat but they should because it helps them feel better when they're awake? I knew I was onto something when I made that post about how the fact they're technically living 31 hours a day should effect them more physically.

Also, The fact that the facility has a fucking armory is insane but also works so perfectly for the Mike-centric AU I've been trying to cook up and speaking of Mike, OH MY GOD HE'S IN THE PHANTOM DIMENSION, I REPEAT, HE'S IN THE PHANTOM DIMENSION!!

Does that mean the other parents are there too? Is it just him? Is Emma with him?

Also, both dad and daughter being certified badasses and having the same instincts??

We also got Mike with facial hair again lol but I'm kinda worried about what the means. Like they probably gave them stuff for basic hygiene right? Did something happen? Is he spiralling? Who was the one that screamed in this moment?

Also-- THE WAY ASH STARTED CRYING WHEN SHE RECOGNIZED HIM??

Oh my god, idk if we're gonna have another hug moment where he's comforting her again or if we're gonna have all the kids hugging their parents but either imma start crying.

Also, if she's crying but she thinks she's the one who dragged her dad into the phantom realm and feels horribly guilty about it again I'm gonna fucking cry.

When Tanjiro defended Genya like this, I'm too sleepy while writing this but it made me really well up a little, and Genya's reaction to Tanjiro's affirmation. I wanna know what's the backstory here. No spoilers Kay? Also me and my friends were talking and they're telling me that Genya ate the demon during his fight w the upper demon, but I think he ate demons back when Tanjiro used to run into him on some mountain and he was always injured or something? Can someone confirm when he eats the demon or if it's still not shown up in the anime, don't say anything :p🔽

HELLO? RED HOOD MENTIONED????? ARE WE GETTING A JASON TODD APPEARANCE? i have some theories, like they mention that they're a suspected resistance group. so it's not just jason, it could be like all of the robins are red hood?

what i've kinda gotten from this is that they usually keep the ages of the characters consistent (except for the joker who idk if it's just me but he looks a younger) so i don't think with bruce being so young (late 20's?) the robins could all exist, or if they did they'd be babies. so this could be a reference to like the joker's red hood group so it'll be interesting to see if and how he works with the red hood

I know it’s only really leaks for the new mha ‘timeskip’ volume but I really don’t think Horikoshi’s heart is in this or he’s really thought it through. Maybe my vision for the ending and his is different. I’m also trying to digest the ending and read through some analysis without bakudeku getting shoved down my throat which is seemingly a little difficult.

I hope there’s more Midoriya POV bc all I’ve been seeing is Bakugou, who I love, favourite character, but he ain’t the protagonist yk? And most of the stuff I’m reading is just him being a boo-hoo baby about Midoriya not joining his agency which is not what is written, take your shipper glasses off, this story was always about FRIENDSHIP and RIVALS.

Also the top 20 heroes annoys me, heroes are in places they shouldn’t be and there shouldn’t even be a ranking bc that means Touya’s death changed FUCK ALL.

ALSO FUCK USING TOGA TO PUSH IZUOCHA. I have no big opinions on Uraraka ships, never got emotionally invested in her character but come on, that’s just bad taste and a waste of Toga’s character and meaning.

Do like most of the character designs, Kirishima and Kaminari looking SCRUMPTIOUS. The panel of Dabi…love.

There are things I like but they’re all minor or not really plot relevant. Idk…not the biggest fan but I can live with it like the multiple other bad manga endings this year. This is what fanfiction and personal headcanons are for.

Hey what do you think about Flatline and Damian

Hmmm, my feelings for Flatline is a bit complicated. But first I just wanna say I love her design. It's one of the coolest character designs I've ever seen.

I'll be honest, I hated her when I first read Robin (2021). But wait, read till the end.

My reasons were:

1) She was a very powerful character who killed Damian (my FAVOURITE character) 😭

2) When they stood side by side, other characters would start saying things like "ohh love birds" etc. I hate it when writers do that. Another example is Fullmetal Alchemist. Characters would say things to Edward like "Oh your girlfriend's coming to Central" or something, when they clearly are not dating. It's just an automatic NO for me when the narrative do that.

3) The writer nerfed Damian to show off his OC(s).

4) She was introduced to be a love interest and I don't usually like characters who are just there to be love interests.

5) She betrayed Damian and it wasn't addressed properly. Even after they started their relationship.

Then later she betrayed Damian again in B&R(2023), so...

6) They got into a relationship too quickly for my taste. I prefer ships to have a long period of friendship first.

And I was just like " My son is too young nooo😭😭😭"

I still wish Damian got to grow up more without having a love interest. Idk if it's just me but 14 is too young to make lovers in my opinion ┐⁠(⁠´⁠ー⁠｀⁠)⁠┌

When Flatline returned in Batman and Robin (2023), I became more furious at Flatline because she betrayed Damian again and it was mostly brushed aside and how dare she!!!!

But then I stopped myself. I started thinking, what would I do if I were in her shoes? I have an elder sister who I love more than anything, I thought I would do everything to protect her, just like how Flatline did. She tried to protect her sister even if that meant doing some bad things. I didn't blame her for doing that anymore. Because I understood her.

My only criticism toward writer is that they should've made Damian and Nika talk more about their relationship. Talk about more Nika's betrayal and their feelings overall. It was just done in 2-3 panels and never addressed again.

But again, I understand her and don't blame her. I'm just bitter on behalf of Damian.

When the comic progressed and when I saw more and more Flatline, I warmed up to her more. And what made me get rid of my dislike and bias was these pages.

With these pages, we saw how Nika cared about Damian. And that's really what matters to me. Whether she cares and loves Damian or not.

When I saw how Nika hugged Damian and how she talked about him when he wasn't near, how she said Damian needed to be protected... Yeah, she really loves Damian and Damian really loves Nika. That's what I want. I don't want Damian to have a toxic relationship with only betrayel, uncertainty and doubt. I want him to love and be loved. So, I'm happy DC gave him a relationship like that.

And I think Flatline's character developed over time. She warmed up to Damian and loved him more and more. I saw someone on Twitter say "Damian fell first but Nika fell harder" and I think that really describes them very well. Nika needed time.

I hope we get to see Flatline and I hope DC explore her character and her relationship with Damian more. And I just pray that their relationship doesn't get ruined, toxic, bad or anything like that. I hope they get to be happy forever.
