the resentment leo would have with splinter post-krang. i genuinely think they would take a bit for them to recover and be comfortable around each other

why do i think that? here’s some reasons. this is gonna be a HELLA long analysis so be prepared. sit down, grab some popcorn, and let’s dive in

in the movie, after raph was taken, leo goes on a whole rant about how he got the key, he gets the answers, and he will get raph back. yes this is irrational and brash, but not in leo’s eyes. in his eyes, this is a foolproof plan that will work

splinter attempts to intervene, and tell him like it is. “it’s not your plan, you need to work with your team.” however, it comes out as a sharp sting to leo’s previous attitude

“My son, listen to your team. This is not about you.”

it’s meant to be sensible and wise, but to leo, it’s a jab at him. it’s a stab at his cockiness and self-centered attitude, and it reminds leo of why they’re even in this position in the first place. which he hates

most of all, it’s splinter saying it. it’s his father telling him that it’s not about him. because to leo, he’s always been last place to splinter’s affection, and it’s like splinter’s confirming it here

don’t believe me? here:

splinter talks to leo, and it seems that for a minute, he listens to his father’s words. that maybe he should really stop and listen. maybe he should stop and think of a plan, listen to his brothers’ input.

but the second splinter says it’s not about him? leo shuts down. he pulls away from splinter, and refuses to listen to him. and while splinter may be right, it was something leo never wanted to hear

it’s obvious that he has a somewhat testy relationship with his father, and splinter is trying to make up for it by giving leadership advice. but to leo? this is the guy who made him leader to seemingly mess with him, never bothered to give him attention or praise on his accomplishments, and never truly knew leo beyond his “acting as the best to save face” charade

which brings me to another reason. no, i do not think splinter was ever abusive or purposely neglectful to leo, or any of the boys for that matter. but its clear theres a bit of a rift between him and leo. i think that he kind of resents leo a bit (without meaning to) because he sees himself in him. he sees the irrational movie star who never thought ahead, and made too many mistakes to count

an example would be when leo got punched by lou jitsu two times. none of his brothers got punched, why just him? and sure it could be a running gag, but i find it also to be intentional

maybe deep down, splinter still resents leo for being so much like his irrational, unreasonable younger self. that every time he sees leo, he sees his stupid past self, and without meaning to, he at times hates leo because of it. and if he doesn’t hate him, he seems to resent him to some extent

splinter also has plainly stated that donnie was the funniest one to him, (s1ep 1, mystic mayhem) and outright laughed when leo asked if he was the favorite son (rottmnt wake-up alarms on youtube, timestamp 1:59) leo also staight-up said that he was splinter’s least favorite (s1ep 4b, down with the sickness)

so yeah, i can see the resentment leo may have for his father deep down. it could be pretty apparent post-krang, hidden behind his jokes and teases

now don’t get me wrong, they have their moments of bonding, and i do love to read little drabbles and fics where they hug and heal. however… realistically speaking, it would take a while for them to get to that stage of father-son bonding post-krang. with splinter naming him leader out of the blue, to the missing lou jitsu posters on the walls of leo’s room in the movie — and we’re definitely talking about that in a later post, trust — i would bet their relationship as father-son pre and post-movie would be extremely rocky.

another reasoning for this could be that splinter often underestimates and undermines leo’s abilities and accomplishments. far as i’ve seen, the most reaction splinter’s given to leo’s accomplishments is an eyebrow raise

for example, when outsmarting big mama, leo was genuinely proud of spending time w his dad and showing him his abilities. he genuinely thought they were working together. however, splinter didn’t say he was proud or anything, just complained he wished he’d brought donnie (s2ep 2, many unhappy returns)

“I knew I should have brought Purple.”

ouch. that mustve hurt a bit

and yes, i will admit, leo was being a bit of a little shit in this scene, and yes, he could’ve told splinter of the plan before starting to yap and blab to big mama about the plan he cooked up. however, the response splinter gives is not much better. essentially, he’s saying, “i don’t like this kid or his plan, so therefore i think i should’ve brought one of my favored children to solve the problem better.”

and before you go and tell me donnie could’ve outsmarted big mama the way leo did, think for a moment. leo fully admitted to manipulating and lying in an episode before

“I don’t lie, I just… change the truth.”

whereas donnie cannot tell a lie to save his life. i love him, but the guy is a shit liar. he has failed multiple times at it

“We are just typical normal humans.. who got lost in the middle of our normal… everyday human lives— nailed it.”

“Uh… nothing. Just having a typical, normal, mystic-free day.” “What? I said mystic-free.”

“Why aren’t you guys more upset?”

“Oh. This… hurts me. Uh… I’m very sad…?”

raph & mikey aren’t much better. mikey straight-up started sweating when he had to lie to splinter about piebald, and raph has so many different stinks/scents to him that it’d be easy for others to tell he was lying

also, mikey has doctor delicate touch. who does not know what lying or “don’t be blunt” means

and donnie’s really only being extremely straightforward with what he thinks or about what’s going on around him. so it makes no sense as to why splinter would want to bring donnie along to outsmart big mama, unless he genuinely doesn’t enjoy leo’s presence, which seems to be the case

now all of this is evidence to point towards a very unsteady father-son relationship with these two. yes, splinter seems to be a very lenient father, and i genuinely think he wants to be a good dad. however, oftentimes that leads to miscommunication and misread moments, empty promises, and overall neglecting behavior on his part, all without meaning to

so while he does try harder to be there for his sons later in the show, it’s pretty obvious that one brother — who thrived off any attention possible — probably stopped caring about that validation after all that he went through. splinter gives, but leo doesn’t take. he doesn’t bother to, because he thinks it’s either a prank of some kind, or because he just genuinely doesn’t care for his father’s input anymore.

Double comic upload, since these two are tied together pretty tightly. I did the one on the left a few months ago, so the comments aren't very tied together.

Bridget might be the funniest girl alive. And so is May, for expecting anything else from Johnny's brand. Anyway, cutie patootie art style. Everyone looks adorable.

I'm experimenting with using more fonts to mirror the original fonts, but I'm worried they affect legibility too much. Let me know what you think of the fonts in the last panels.

Please if you understand Japanese go read what May says in the bush and tell me what it is that was such a pain in the ass.

I considered changing May's line to "I know you're trying to be [ stronger / cooler ], but don't follow Sol's example..." because I really didn't want to deal with irritating people on this post. On the other hand, this comic is about how Bridget was handling her gender in XX era, so changing it could be a bit disingenuous. And again, I don't like making changes beyond better understandability in English since I don't read Japanese.

Couple of transfem friends pushed me to use the more accurate one, since they felt it was pretty accurate to some of their experiences.

I wasn't going to not post this comic. It's genuinely hysterical.

TO BE CLEAR: I am NOT claiming that this other game (Ikemen Villains) is a "rip-off" of TWST; I'm pointing out parallels between them because I think it's entertaining to see how different games interpret the same or similar fairy tales.

Please also note that although nothing I say in this post is explicit, IkeVil itself is designated as 17+ and contains dark content. If you decide you want to try the game out for yourself, BE AWARE OF THE AGE RATING AND TRIGGER WARNINGS.

ARE THESE NOT JUST J WORD IN A BLACK WIG AND CONTACTS (the last one looks like a blend of Jade's sus face + Idia's sus face) 😭 His face looks so similar… and they're both "attendant" characters that act polite but are more manipulative than they appear at first glance... (although Alfons has Floyd's hedonism rather that Jade's restraint!)

More of my first impressions of the characters of IkeVil below the cut!! Again, there's nothing explicit, I just wanted to keep this post not too bulky.

And not just him (Alfons) either, ashldbiasydefpaei there's a Trey-lookalike and a Silver pre-hair color change in the same game! Roger has a rifle and is cursed by Snow White's huntsman, so I joke that he's Rook and Trey's test tube baby... and Elbert has Vil's keen eye and desire for what is beautiful!

There are also characters that don't look like an TWST ones, but definitely have personalities that remind me of a few! For example, Liam's laid-back affability is Che'nya and Chenya Cater-esque, Jude speaks in a gruff but aristocratic manner like Leona but is a tough businessman like Azul, and Ellis seems like a mix of Malleus's obsession with happy endings + Idia's gloomy demeanor…? No clue if he actually is gloomy or not, he just gives me gloomy vibes.

Victor is Crowley-adjacent! Like they're both overseeing this group of powerful men with magic so you'd think they're serious types--but they aren't. They're silly and use their own skills to do frivolous things like doing magic tricks or making cake fancier. They also both seem to be hiding a secret...

Harrison doesn't remind me of anyone in particular, though I do see little bits of our typical "lying" characters in him. He has the chill of a Che'nya but also Floyd's flippancy and lies as easily as like... I don't know, Cater?? Not sure on this one.

abfhbyoafvadpiadgo OKAY OKAY BUT THE FUNNIEST ONE TO ME IS WILLIAM BECAUSE HE'S "THE QUEEN OF HEARTS" CHARACTER... Most of the time when you have a character with this inspiration, they're controlling and easily angered (*stares at Riddle*), but William is NOTHING like that???? In fact, he's got a strong sense of justice and often encourages others to be honest and to act freely, even if it means disregarding the rules. Every time William opens his mouth... Insane that the last Team Fortress 2 comic came out, and perhaps more insane is how effectively it resolves the themes of the story, considering the whole thing spun out of some silly gag comics for a first person shooter, which had a bunch of lore back-ported onto it, with this particular issue having spent nearly eight years in development hell...

I love video games, and I love trying to rationalise the insane logic of how they work using fiction. Or not even to rationalise, just to kind of like... take it at face value? There's a great bit in one of the Team Fortress 2 comics where the mercenaries are going to be fighting an army of robots (in the game's PVE mode) and, at that point in the story, Mann Co. is bankrupt, so they're not getting paid—but they're mercenaries, so why are they fighting? And Ms. Pauling just comes right out and says, "For reasons I can't comprehend or explain, the robots run on piles of money. Destroy them and whatever falls out is yours." Risk of Rain has a similar conceit, where the aliens explode into currency, something that's diegetically acknowledged in the in-game logs.

The comics also deserve serious credit for genuinely pushing the limits of the comic medium, by explicitly using the fact that this is something people are reading on their computers. You see Webtoons currently are doing something similar, optimised for phones with their infinite scrolling. Well, here everything's landscape, and you advance through the comic using the arrow keys or whatever, and there's all these little gags that rely on hiding a speech bubble at first, or tweaking a panel, or doing a jump-cut, which are borderline impossible to replicate in print (the closest thing traditional comics have as a tool is the page-turn, which some writers do use to great effect).

It might just be that Team Fortress 2 was one of the things that heavily informed my sense of humour at a formative age, but I still come back to it and think it's the funniest thing in the world. And a big part of what makes the humour work, for me, is that it is just barely grounded in the real world. When someone gets their hand cut off and it's played for laughs, they've still just had their hand cut off. All the blood and guts is right there to see. Characters like Spy and Ms. Pauling frequently ground the story in these bureaucratic material concerns—like, someone is having to go around burying all the bodies.

Which means that when the story takes something which genuinely started as nothing more than a joke, and uses it for pathos, those beats can actually hit home. The big example is the joke about Spy having sex with Scout's mom, which in the comics morphs into this running thread about Spy probably being Scout's father, which in turn plays into these themes of regret and cycles of violence... and that was obviously never planned from the start, even the early examples in the comics are very much within the realm of plausible deniability, but over time they're clearly like—well, what if that was the case? What then? It's such good yes-anding.

Certain characters—the Pyro and the Engineer—do get pretty short-changed, which I think is mostly because the other characters just lend themselves much better to the extremely dialogue-dense style of comedy. The Engineer spends most of the numbered issues completely sidelined, looking after the Administrator; I mostly played Engineer when I played the game, so I do find that a bit disappointing. I don't think the Sentry Gun even gets a look-in! But still, nine playable characters plus the supporting cast is a lot to keep track of, and I think they chose the right ones to focus on (Scout, Soldier, Spy, Heavy).

Part of what made Team Fortress 2 always appeal to me above and beyond any other first-person shooter was its obvious awareness that the fighting is not, in fact, good, or just, or meaningful, or anything other than a pointlessly cynical greed-fuelled slaughter over nothing. It's just these drab industrial sites and bodies being thrown at one another, on repeat, forever. I think if you want to take a multiplayer game like this and build up a narrative on top of it, it's kind of the only honest approach you can take. Seeing similar stories in this and in RoosterTeeth's Red vs. Blue around the same time left a big impression on me as a teenager.

Contrast Overwatch (of course), which always billed itself as a superhero story, which had clearly-defined good-versus-evil flavour, which purported to depict a global conflict of world-shattering stakes, where every single piece of fucking tie-in media was a saccharine sentimental little snoozefest where characters will say things like "Oh no!" unironically. In Overwatch, the playable characters come from all over the world, they're these collar-tuggingly direct stereotypes, and it's like... wow, the military-industrial complex is so inclusive, you guys! Meanwhile, Team Fortress 2 has stereotypes of its own, but the intent is so completely different. Sniper, Heavy, Demoman, Medic, Spy have these clearly-defined national backgrounds, but they've shed all nationalistic ties, civilized human society would shun them, and now all they can do is kill for money they will never have cause to spend.

And the supporting characters invented for the comic all support this theme of bitter, cynical hate, of pointless bickering and petty feuds. Brothers Redmond and Blutarch turn themselves into monsters trying to outlive each other solely out of spite, not even just to enjoy their lives for as long as possible! When Gray Mann offs them, his characterisation sees their mindless, stupid schemes replaced with cold rationalism, to match the Administrator's own ruthless efficiency, but the substance of their conflict is no different. Wait, is the moral of the Team Fortress 2 comics just... old people bad? Look at the Team Fortress Classic guys...

I don't know. Overwatch was heavily billed on the quality of its worldbuilding and writing and characters (I was always like, what worldbuilding? What writing? What characters?), and like the many, many MCU films which nobody thinks about or talks about or cares about any more, I don't think I've ever seen someone actually talk about that media as art, except to point out its shortcomings. Nobody will remember any of it. Oh god, I just remembered about all the Overwatch porn. Okay, people will remember it, just not for the right reasons.

Meanwhile, I've known people over the last eight years who routinely joked about the final Team Fortress 2 comics never coming out. For something so ancillary, so inessential, to have made such a big impression on people, is something that in this case speaks to its success on a creative level. If anything, I wish it was less of a transmedia narrative, that this was just a single book I could pick up off the shelf and give to someone like "read this!" and that's all they'd need to know. Maybe I should try to compile some sort of reading list, hmm.

yeah! a lot of these are going to be splitting hairs a bit, and i understand her reasoning for all of these, and also this is by far one of my favorite things about her like i love every time she does this.

speak now:

famously, taylor said originally speak now being solo-written was an accident, because she was spending so much time alone in hotels and writing at werid hours of the night. this is not true, she's said many times she lied about this and did it to prove that she was writing her own songs and not getting pity credits or whatever

(THIS IS THE MOST SUBJECTIVE AND OUTSIDER PERSPECTIVE ENTRY ON THE LIST) back to december makes it seem like taylor had much deeper feelings for taylor lautner than she did. i dont think they were ever exclusive; she wrote both enchanted and ours about other people while her and taylor were ostensibly dating. i think taylor squared just went on a couple dates and when lautner tried to make it exclusive in december, swift turned him down

the secret message to mine is 'toby', which is the name of the guy who starred in the music video. i have heard persistent rumors that mine is about a college guy she dated in early 2010, and his name might be toby, but at the very least she's trying to trick us

taylor told this to the la times: “I knew I wanted to bookend the album with 'State of Grace' and 'Begin Again' because they're inspired by the same person who inspired a few songs on the record. I wanted to start and end the album with the first and last song I ever wrote about that relationship." i can't definitively say state of grace wasn't the first song she wrote about that relationship (though she has said all too well is the first song she wrote for the album), i can definitively say she wrote wanegbt four months after she wrote begin again

taylor said this about red: "When I'm writing a record, I kind of don't listen to much music [...] the only artists that I really listened to were Snow Patrol and Ed Sheeran, and that's the reason why I wanted to collaborate with those people on the record." taylor gave many updates on what she was listening to throughout writing red, most notably the arm lyrics on the speak now tour. she gave occasional shout outs to what she was listening to on twitter and instagram into the spring of 2012, and various artists have talked about her complimenting recently relased songs at the time. this is one of my favorites like this made me laugh out loud when i first read it

the secret message for everything has changed, a song she wrote in may, is "hyiannis port", implying that it is about her relationship with connnor kenedy, who she met two months after writing the song

every single time she implied ikywt was about harry in 2013. i don't think it's a complete lie, but she did start writing the song about three months before she met him. finished it after the first time they broke up though

1989:

while taylor (as far as we know) did not have a long term boyfriend in 2013, she did go on dates (funniest one is with tom odell, who wrote this song about her), and it seems like some of those dates were with the intention of finding something more permanent (hence her disappointed "Dating is awful. Love is fiction/ a myth. I’m over it all.").

this and many, many interviewers where taylor says that she got the idea to make a 80s album after losing album of the year at the grammy's (she tells a lot of different stories about that night). bonus points if she says she had “accidentally” been incorporating 80s synths before that. it seems like taylor had the idea to make an 80s pop album around may of 2013 (to many little sources for this one, check my 1989 timeline), and taylor explicitly requested ryan tedder to make 80s pop for her before the grammy's where she lost album of the year.

taylor did not move to new york until after 1989 (at least non-tv) was finished

taylor didn't move from nashville to new york. she largely moved out of nashville to LA in early 2012, and spent a good portion of 2013 split between LA and rhode island.

taylor: "'I Did Something Bad' I wrote after Arya and Sansa conspire to kill Littlefinger." that episode aired in august of 2017. we have video proof of her writing idsb in october of 2016. now, filming for that season did begin in august of 2016 and lasted for another 6 months, so she could've been receiving insider information? but in the same article she said she was avoiding spoilers and she seems to be unaware of the upcoming events in season 8. i don't know what's going on here i love it

various sessioners have reported that taylor said she wrote all the songs on reputation for reputation, not years in advance. it seems like she had some lyrics for ready for it, dress, and new years day written years in advance. this is the most nit picky entry on this list and i’m annoying myself just by writing it

taylor: "I posted [the seven palm trees] the day the I finished the seventh album." taylor did not finish the album in february, she definitely added death by a thousand cuts after april 24, and likely added london boy in july, something she knew at the time of giving the interview.

this interview about the making of lover (the song): "Interviewer: [Jack] was calling that the Paul bass, is that Paul McCartney? Taylor: Yeah. [Two seconds later] Jack: It's not a true Paul bass at all."

folklore and evermore

the statement that inspired this post, that folklore was the first time taylor wrote non-autobiographical songs! not true! large swathes of debut, fearless, and speak now are about made up scenarios! best believe taylor swift, born in 1989, did not meet bobby on the boardwalk in the summer of '45!

this interview with paul mccartney, where she says there is a song on folklore about "a pioneer woman in a forbidden love affair" (ivy, a song on evermore), and when asked what books inspired her on folklore, named Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier, the book that inspired tolerate it (another song on evermore).

edit cause i forgot: those joe credits on folklore are. so funny. no he did not. like i generally take taylor at something approximating her word but i'm gonna need some proof on this one. exile and betty i buy everything else is ridiculous. queen shit though

More Lads gameplay shenanigans.

I think one of the funniest parts of playing Lads is that you can make up silly/funny or cute/dramatic stories in your head based on the interactions you experience with the guys in the game.

Like, for example, today I had my first big "argument" with Zayne (yeah it sounds so silly I know 😂 but hold on).

It all started when I opened the game today and checked on Zayne's outfit. Normally I don't really pay too much attention to his outfits cause lately I just open the game to do my dailies and then come back at night to claim the stamina. However, I've seen a lot of ppl complaining about their Zayne always choosing his uhm "default" outfit(? You know, the shades, black dress t-shirt and black trousers. I know it's mostly for the shits and giggles but since I've seen a lot of ppl complaining abt it, I decided to screenshot Zayne's outfit for the last 5 days to check if it was true and for now he never once used what I call his "default" outfit.

It actually made me think that the one with the boring outfits in this relationship is probably me 😅

Anyway, I was actually quite happy that today he chose to wear the "Edgy" outfit (the one with the lil cat on the sleeve) since it was the first time he wears it on his own. Everything was nice, I did my dailies as usual, did the little dailies of the chibi cat café and it was all fine until I watched Zayne's 4th chapter of the Yes, Cat Caretaker event cause it reminded me that I'm not the biggest fan of this event lol (the chibis and their convos are the best part for me).

I already got Zayne's card and outfit and funnily enough, I think Zayne heard me complaining abt this banner and how I wasn't sure to pull for his card this time cause this was the first time that he didn't make me waste 1 wish point to come home like he usually does. He came home at 50 wishes and I just pulled the rest for the outfit (normally in other mutiple banners I always had to pull 100-130 wishes to get him so yeah, it's a big difference).

I tried my best to get myself to like this card but there are still a lot of things I personally don't like about it, I could explain but I don't really want to ruin the fun for anyone, this is just probably my least favorite card (for very personal reasons) and I have been feeling a little bit disappointed and with little or no encouragment to play the game since then.

So yeah, I watched the chapter and then came back with this uneasiness I've tried to supress lately and I remembered that today is Monday (it's holiday in my country so I didn't go to work, hence I had time to play today and get upset at Zayne yaay) so I went to the claw machine with him to use my three tickets. I've already got a lot of plushies with Zayne so to get new plushies with him to gain affinity points has been a hell lately, I've spent like at least 50-100 diamonds per week buying tickets just for him 🫡 so, when I used my first ticket I didn't get any new plushie. For the second one I was excited that there was actually a new plushie (Coffee Fleecy) and I tried to get it twice but my efforts were in vain, I thought that Zayne's evol would be veeery helpful this time so I asked him to switch places, to what he simply replied "No" 🥲 so I tried to get it again and I failed again, I couldn't even make it fall so it would be easier to catch it. I asked Zayne again to switch places and he accepted this time but for the two chances we still had left he got nothing 🫠

I used my third ticket and got kinda upset to see that the plushie wasn't there anymore and all the plushies that showed up I already had them so I asked Zayne to do the rest 4 chances we had and didn't even bother to cheer him on and he only got 1 lol xD

For those who have passed affinity level 100 with their main, you probably know how difficult is to upgrade levels so I was really pissed that I missed this chance, especially cause I'm already used to Zayne's indiferent lines when playing claw machine but this time they got to me ahaha.

So back at the café, he mentioned something about the plushies, I tapped his shoulder a bit frustrated and he said something like "Without your cheers, I feel like I've lost my touch" or smth like that I was like "Uhhhh? Who was the one who said 'No' first?" 🙄

I went to the dressing room and put him on his default outfit and instead of saying "You know me well" he said something about how today it was cloudy so there was no need to use the shades or smth like that. Back at the café he said that he's not very good at fashion so he needed my help but I was still pissed, I looked at his hand and he was still wearing the ring so I went back to the dressing room just to take it off bc I was like "Today you're a stranger to me" (Hahaha so dramatic I know). Back at the café again, I was actually suprised that the first thing he said after I took the ring off of him was "I'm not annoyed, you're imagining things" with an annoyed expression lol.

After that I just closed the game and I just went to do my daily chores at home. Later, I came back to try the new Hunter Contest trials, I saw him writing something and I called him just to change him for Rafayel ajdldkf xD this is where the hilarious part comes up cause I know Rafayel is easier to get lovely at the café than Zayne, saying things like 'I'd do whatever to see you smile again' 'Hold my hand and never let go', etc, actually I normally tend to tap Zayne's lips/nose and he normally says "Is there something on my face? Why do you like to touch it so much?" "You also have eyes and a nose" "There are 42 muscles in the human face" With a kinda annoyed face so I did the same with Rafayel and he said with a big smile "It feels great! Don't stop!" 🥺

So yeah, this time I was kinda having some heavy feelings now. I'm veeery focused on Zayne so I rarely visit the other guys at the café, as to why I had kinda forgotten that they're more expressive (smile more, have different ways to look at you, different body language etc) and are also a bit more prone to express their affection through words than Zayne at the café, but of course I'm not saying this to hate on Zayne, (I would NEVER, I might be upset at him but he's still my main) he just expresses his affection differently.

Rafayel was being especially lovely, saying a lot of sweet things that probably are pretty normal from him but since I rarely visit him at the café, I'm not used to them. It seems he saw an opening there to rob me from Zayne cause today of all days, after 8 months playing this game, I was actually able to craft my very first 5 stars card and it was Rafayel's "Before sunrise"... 🤣

Not only this is the first time I visit him at the café in months but I also got a card where he actively encourages you to touch his abs and also, thanks to this card I was able to level him up to affinity 80, unlocking his "Heart" interaction where I get to touch his boobs 😂

Needless to say that I really laughed at his reaction lol 😂

I just think it's funny how the same day I get upset at Zayne, I have Rafayel allowing me to touch his abs and boobs 😂😭 for now he's the second highest on affinity level points.

I used the 'Study' and 'Work out' feature with him and he said he drew me while studying ahaha 💓

After visiting him, I visited Xavier and he was all lovely as well. I didn't get a chance to screenshot it but he told me 'Put your phone down, spend the day with me' and that was kinda hilarious xD. I also used the 'Work out' and 'Study' features with him.

Lastly, I visited Sylus. Needless to say, he was more than willing to get me away from Zayne (?? xD

I also worked out with him but didn't study and it was funny that back at the café he was a little upset that I didn't ask him to study with him lol.

Also, I got a lot of affinity points with him for trying some features with him that I hadn't tried before (like the heart beat feature).

It was really funny interacting with the other guys after months and it looking like they were trying to take advantage of the situation to steal me from Zayne xD of course I know these are all coincidences, that's why at the beginning of this post, I said it was funny to make up stories in your head based off the interactions you get with the guys ingame, like kind of a drama series lol

As for me and Zayne? We're still upset at each other 😶

Is This Video Offensive?

So in this Flashback they reacted to the classic Molester Moon sketch 🌚 We only got one little compliment in this video but I thought I would still include it :-

They’re introducing the video dressed as moons and give each other a fist bump and saying how they’re ‘ordinary guys’.

Ian: “Anyway, um,” *turns to Anthony* “You look good.”

Another little moment I wanted to include which I just found silly :-

[talking about the pandora’s boxes that were opened with the creation of certain emojis]

Anthony: “The peach emoji…”

Ian: “Yeah, yeah, for real.”

Anthony: “The eggplant emoji.”

Ian: “Or do you think the creator was like, ‘let’s make it look a little bit like an ass’.”

Anthony: [laughs] “It’s a little bit like a huge, purple dong.”

Ian: “Dong.”

Anthony: “Yeah, I don’t know, honestly, it makes me wonder if they did know because it’s too perfectly ass-shaped. Right? I feel like it’s more ass-shaped than a peach. Peaches are not that perfectly ass-shaped.”

Ian: “I don’t know, bro.”

Anthony: “You seen some pretty good looking peaches?”

Ian: “I’ve seen some pretty tantalising peaches in my day.”

Anthony: [swallows] “Oh yeah? Do you want me to call you by my name?”

Ian: [in a low voice] “I could eat a peach for hours.”

What’s Wrong With This Soup? (Culinary Crimes)

So the boys went on Courtney’s new show and it did not disappoint with giving us some complimentary bestie moments :-

Courtney: “So the theme of this episode is foods that are vegan, gluten free, with some other twists as well.”

Ian: “So a lot of nuts, I presume.”

Anthony: “Besties with testes.”

Ian: “We are besties with testes, so.”

Silly but still quite cute, can never resist them calling each other besties even when it involves testes 😅

[First recipe they are given is soup]

Ian: “I have recently became a soup boy.”

Anthony: “Yeah.”

Courtney: “You have become a soup boy. That’s why I put you on this case.”

Ian: “Oh, is that right? Yes.”

Anthony: “I have been a good soup boy’s assistant.”

Ian: “Yeah.”

Anthony: “Ian invited me over. I was a little assistant, we made some soup.”

Ian: “We made soup together.”

Anthony: “It was really good.”

WHAT?! THEY MADE SOUP TOGETHER! IAN INVITED HIM OVER AND THEY MADE SOUP TOGETHER!!! ANTHONY WAS HIS SOUP ASSISTANT!!! 😭…. Sorry, screaming over. But that is the cutest thing ever! So after the whole moment in January where Ian dashed many of our fantasies of them making soup together, it ended up actually happening and I am one happy girl knowing it did 😊

Making Of “Would You Push This Button?”

So the BTS of the Would You Push This Button? sketch provided us with a couple moments :-

Not a compliment or anything but you know, gotta include the high-fives.

Now this other moment is complimentary but the dialogue isn’t that important so I’m just going to give a run down of what is happening :-

[Anthony filming Ian sitting recording voice audio that no longer is getting used for the main video. Ian rambles on about how only members get to hear it and how we’re getting it for free, but not really free cause we paid for membership, and how this audio was originally meant to be used as a Shut Up! intro but it wasn’t that funny, all while Ian is saying this you can hear Anthony laughing behind the camera]

Of course to go along with the Would You Push This Button? sketch we also got the watch party livestream, along with them reacting to the previous sketch MrBeast Copycats Have Gone Too Far that they had missed.

Ian: “Just a good guess, I guess.”

Ian: “The last one that I learned to make was the African Peanut Stew.”

Anthony: “Oh yeah, that one sounds so good.”

Ian: “It was so good- yeah, yeah, it’s vegan.”

Anthony: “Yeah, we got to make that one. We got to make that one next.”

Ian: “I feel like I can be a catty little bitch sometimes.”

Anthony: “But that’s not a drama queen.”

Ian: “Like I love drama. Like whenever I hear that there’s a problem I’m like [rubs hands together] ‘alright, let’s go’.”

Anthony: “Yeah, but I feel like drama queens are also like in the drama.”

Erin: “He’s a little dramatic.”

Anthony: “Is he in the drama though?”

Erin: “I would say so.”

Ian: [laughs]

Anthony: “I feel like he observes it and talks about it.”

Ian: “Sometimes I can be the drama. No, I don’t think I’m- I love hearing other people’s drama…”

Anthony: “Yeah.”

Ian: “But I feel like sometimes my honesty can be harsh.”

Anthony: “Sure, sure.”

Ian: “Sometimes I, you know, like sometimes there’s things that just don’t need to be said.”

Anthony: [laughs] “And you used to have no filter.”

Ian: “Sometimes I say it, I think I’ve gotten a little bit better, where I’ll be like, ‘I- never mind’.”

Anthony: “Yeah, yeah. I accept you for it.”

Ian: “Okay.”

Anthony: “I’ve grown to accept it. I used to be very sensitive.”

Love how this started off as something silly but turned into a genuine compliment by the end of it.

Anthony: “I could see wild at heart.”

The BTS of the Grimace: Where Is He Now? sketch gave us a couple little moments, not necessarily compliments, but wanted to include them nonetheless :-

First was this moment where Ian and Anthony are looking at each other through a door covered with fake police tape and they reach through and touch each other’s hands.

But yeah, thought this was cute so wanted to make it part of this post 😊

And the other moment I wanted to include was as they were doing the outro to the video :-

There’s A Werewolf Among Us…

So the boys joined in on this Games video along with Courtney, Arasha, Spencer, Chanse and Trevor where they played Werewolf, in which one person is the werewolf and they have kill off other players without being discovered.

[Arasha brings up how she used to play it when it was called Mafia and the others joke around saying that it’s no longer called that because it’s offensive to Italian-Americans]

Courtney: “Angela actually held up a sign in the front of the building, she was like - ‘Please stop’.”

Ian: “Yeah, she picketed us.”

Anthony: “She’s on strike for the day.”

Ian: [laughs] “She’s on strike.”

Love when the shoe is on the other foot and it’s Ian finding Anthony funny, always very cute ☺️

[Everyone saying they think it’s Ian]

Chanse: “I was gonna say, I think I thought it was Anthony, but I’ve changed my mind.”

Ian: “Well, I mean, I would say I trust you two [Anthony and Chanse] ‘cause you didn’t immediately just go along with it. If you were the werewolf you would have immediately just motioned to vote because you’re like, yeah, let’s kill another villager.”

Trevor: “Or maybe they’re trying to hide it…”

Ian: “No.”

Trevor: “Because they already had someone second it. So why would they jump immediately?”

Ian: “Right, but they would need to be to jump in.”

Anthony: “Or maybe there’s no information to even go off of in the first round.”

Chanse: “I nominate Ian.”

Trevor: “Yeah. Vote time?”

Spencer: “Unfortunately, Ian.”

Ian: “All right, I’m just…”

Spencer: “You have made your case.”

Ian: “Okay, all right.”

Spencer: “And it’s vote time.”

Ian: “I think Anthony’s safe. I don’t trust anyone else.”

It’s sweet how Ian says Anthony’s the only one he trusts here as everyone besides Anthony is saying they think Ian is the werewolf. It’s also doubly sweet when you think about the fact that Anthony actually was the werewolf this round and yet, he was the only one Ian trusted 🥺

Courtney: “She’s plugging all the holes.”

Trevor: [going to raise his hand but backing down and everyone asking what he was going to say] “I just wanted to do it again. I was gonna do it again, where I just make a blatant accusation for no reason.”

Courtney: “It is good, though, for the plot.”

Chanse: “It starts shit.”

Trevor: [puts hand up] “All right, I think it’s Ian.”

Courtney: “The werewolf?”

Trevor: “Yeah.”

Spencer: “All right, does anyone wanna second that?”

Ian: “I think that’s a terrible decision.”

Trevor: “No, not necessarily nominating, I just would like to, you know, cast some doubt upon his character.”

Spencer: “Gosh darn.”

Courtney: “Yeah.” [points at Ian] “You like wolves!”

Ian: “I don’t like wolves.”

Trevor: “You would kill Anthony.”

Ian: [makes a sad/unhappy face]

Trevor: “You would. You hater.”

Ian: “What do you mean I would kill Anthony?”

Trevor: “You’re trying to, like oh, I would never kill my best friend. Oooh.”

Ian: “I never-”

Chanse: “He’s trying to start shit.”

Courtney: [laughing]

Trevor: “See? See? Ian’s like, ooh, they won’t think it’s me because I would never kill my best friend.”

Ian: “This guy talks too much.”

Anthony: [laughs]

Loved this moment, especially how not happy Ian was with the accusation that he would kill Anthony, even in a game. And of course can never resist when it’s brought up that they’re best friends. Also loved how Anthony didn’t say anything and only laughed at what Ian said - the bestie-ism was shining through! 👯‍♂️

Part 2 or can be it's own solo thing if you want...a wholesome end I think and I love your skits so wonder what Skit this will translate into lol:

Y/n: *expecting to be overwhelmed with gifts and buried in em and basically thinking they are gonna be pulled apart by cookies fighting over y/n like a children fighting over a toy via tug-of-war.*

Cookies: *....actually set y/n on a bean bag or something very comfy and were actually very gentle and soothing around y/n, making sure not to overwhelm them and introducing them to the gifts slowly so they can analyze each one....and basically make sure y/n is extremely comfortable and doesn't get a sensory overload or anything.*

(OK ngl I'm autistic so the last little subit I inserted myself as the y/n a little lol! Just imagine thinking the cookies were gonna fight over you like crazy and crush you to death with gifts but surprisingly....they end up being extremely gentle and caring with you....yes, they fight over you but always make sure your comfortable....example: if they know you can't handle violence happening infront of you, they will do it out of sight....if they can find a way to make the fighting entertaining for you then they will fight that way when in your presence....example: if you can't handle physical violence but think the funniest thing in the world is pillow fighting, they will fight eachother via a pillow fight infront of you both to vent out the fighting between eachother....aaand to hear you laugh.)

(BTW the silly fight to make you laugh thing can be its own funny Skit idea if you want since I just realized I unintentionally came up with it while trying to depict how caring the cookies would be lol!)

who do you think is an underrated panel show guest? like someone who doesn’t appear on them very often but should

ohh fun question... y'know the thing about panel shows these days is they're sooo so so comedian-centric and really a lot of the same people again and again — which i'm not complaining about! i think they're the funniest people in the room and understand the dynamic of a panel show better than anyone else 99% of the time! but when it comes to people i find underrated in the most exciting way it's usually the semi-rare non-comedian who just...gets it. like, back in the day it was people like john barrowman, martin freeman, josh groban, mark ronson, chris o'dowd, christopher biggins, professor green, a couple of the spice girls (they actually run in comedian circles, interestingly)... they just fit into these shows and dynamics so well!

most of the people who have really surprised me in this regard in the last 5 or so years (bc i don't wanna reach back to, like, 2012 for this hahaha) have been on celeb juice or something like graham norton, the last leg, etc. for example, i had no idea will mellor could really hang, take jokes, dish out jokes, and do physical comedy until i saw him on juice. i think that kind of discovery is so fun!

100000% the uk drag girls (the viv being the one we see the most, love her to death and GET HER ON TM!!) NEED to be on more panel shows, jordan north (and get william hanson on SOMETHING this MINUTE), shirley ballas, ronan keating is actually a laugh, a lot of the reality show people (MIC, TOWIE, etc) who do what they do because they don't take themselves too seriously really do Get The Vibe (this is how we got rylan hellooooo), maggie aderin-pocock is an angel, ore oduba, jordan stephens, judge rinder hmm

comedians-wise (ik the drag girls often are comedians, but otherwise), people we've seen a little bit who we should be seeing more of in the name of comedy — alasdair beckett-king, kiri pritchard-mclean, paul foot, larry dean (whoever has the ‘X days since panelshowsource has mention larry dean’ sorry but you gotta reset), glenn moore, amy gledhill, morgana robinson

+ they're not underrated per say but just people i'd like to see again/continue seeing more often include ivo graham, guz khan, chris addison, holly walsh, robert webb, elis james, catherine tate, jess hynes, josie long, peter serafinowicz, humphrey kerr (we haven't seen him in a minute but i always thought he could have developed more of a place in panel show culture), and ffs can we bring back angus? should we? but could we? can we? just for one episode idk? also graham norton get your ass on tm this INSTANT new years

Recently, in multiple posts, I've been talking about how I like to envision Susie, Taranza and Magolor all being morally grey to various degrees and that I hesitate to simply write them off as either "good" or "bad" as it's more complicated than just doing that. In my personal opinion, it's the best and most interesting way to perceive those characters.

I'd like to bring up Marx and Dark Meta Knight, and talk some about how I also consider these two to be complicated and rather morally ambiguous, similarly to how I view Wave 3. I'll be talking about how I generally characterize them together in this same post.

These two are strange cases. They're both pre-Kumazaki era, previously villainous Dream Friends that don't have actual confirmed redemptions in canon. I believe that this in combination with their practically nonexistent characterizations in canon have resulted in various interpretations for them, as many people have portrayed these guys as cartoonishly evil bastards, but I've also seen takes of them that go weirdly far in the other direction and defanging them a bit too much.

.... I won't deny, I've been guilty of some of this myself. Back then, during like 2023, I ended up leaning rather too far in painting these two characters as terrible people. I cringe at myself when I look back at it, admittedly. Like just simply the fact that I made them assholes wasn't the problem, it was the extent of which it was done.

Thankfully, I made efforts to rectify this problem back when I announced headcanon changes in my Kirby universe during May of 2024, where I've since had Marx and DMK be somewhat more mellowed out. Like, they still can't really be considered good people and are still a bit mean, but at least what I've had for them after the hc changes during the middle of last year should be considered more serviceable.

They're a tad asshole-ish but calling them truly bad people would be a stretch. Like Wave 3, they're pretty complicated and lean more on the morally grey side. They have good traits to go along with their flaws.

My Marx is still a big troll that has a very edgy sense of humor (that he got from his Nova transformation), and he still likes to cause mischief and get on people's nerves, but deep down he actually cares about many of the people around him. He's not great at showing or admitting it a lot of the time, but he does. He'll show it in rough or dire times.

I'd say the best example that would demonstrate this aspect of my Marx is how he is with Magolor, as that's his best friend. My dynamic for Marx and Magolor has a lot to it, as even though it does involve a lot of silliness and trollness out of them both, there's also genuine warmth between them. Marx is indebted to Magolor for saving him from his near-death experience, and truthfully if someone were to maliciously hurt Magolor then that'd make Marx livid as he'd go hunt that person down.

Another thing about my Marx is that, despite how insufferable he can be, he also legitimately does want to make some people laugh. He's still large humored at the end of the day, even if he laughs at things that would freak most others out. And, well, some people think he's hilarious. Fellow Wave 1ers Rick, Kine and Coo think he's the funniest person ever. Marx can also be surprisingly insightful at times when one might not expect him to be, as there are occasions where he has shockingly accurate solutions to problems some of his friends may have. It could be ironic to come from a very trollish person.

As for my DMK, he's also a complicated one. He's very antisocial and emotionally distant, and he has a temperament and is still willing to be wildly violent, and this can make him pretty unapproachable, but there's also a big sense of chillax with him. He's pretty calm and chill at times, and as he basically stopped being malevolent after the death of Dark Mind, he's generally not ill-intentioned as long as you don't piss him off. Basically, just don't poke the bear when it comes to him.

He can also be quite a helpful combat ally because he did quite good while helping out in Star Allies, even though he was rather reluctant to embrace being in the team at first. It took time for him to warm up a bit.

DMK, of course, also has friends! Shadow Kirby is his best and most important friend. Skirby has managed to domesticate DMK to an extent after the death of Dark Mind (reminder that in my verse, it's actually Skirby that kills Dark Mind, and it's some time after Amazing Mirror) and the two Mirror Worlders have been best friends ever since, and they're sparring pals. I'm also a truther of DMK being friends with the rest of Wave 2, especially Daroach because I do dig the DMK & Daroach friendship that's been common in the fandom.

Speaking of Wave 2 as a whole, that Guest Star photo of them together is real to me, which means that DMK likes to draw. Heh. Thank Adeleine for getting him into that.

I will also, uh, say that I do still interpret DMK having a part in what happened to Sectonia, but I must stress that it happened before DMK was freed of Dark Mind's influence. Dark Mind was the real culprit behind the situation as it happened before he died, and he just instructed DMK to help him out on it. And despite playing a hand in that, DMK still becomes better after Dark Mind dies. Although Taranza still gets upset upon learning about all of that, and he irrationally demonizes DMK over it, and quite frankly I suggest Taranza to go to damn therapy instead of doing that. DMK himself could go to therapy too.

I'm aware of the controversy around that theory. And yeah, it's a theory, I know it's not confirmed in canon and it should not be treated as canon, although I think the details of Sectonia's corruption are vague enough to where I would say it's okay to headcanon DMK having anything to do with it, and I think it's at its most interesting when you don't literally demonize him over it and still make him nuanced and capable of being better after it. Don't make him irredeemable over it. I think it's an interesting theory to adapt if you look at it in a way like this.

I don't think Susie should be seen as irredeemable despite the terrible things she did, including the Mecha Knight stuff, and so I believe the same for DMK if you subscribe to that controversial theory. I personally just look at it as something he did in his villain arc, similar to other villain Dream Friends.

I also don't make Sectonia and Taranza innocent. Despite me cautiously subscribing to the theory, it does not come with me making the spiders innocent. They were still villains. Taranza still enabled Sectonia's tyranny. And I imagine Sectonia was already a flawed person before the mirror gift, which was what led to her downfall, and I still don't excuse her actions.

Okay, now that's out of the way. And yeah, as you see, I have Marx and DMK firmly being in the same "morally ambiguous" boat as Wave 3. I don't mean to be some morally grey shill, but I really do think that the Kirby series is pretty rich with grey characters when you really put time and effort into thinking about them. I've said this before, but I don't put consider any of the Dream Friends to be "irredeemable", as many of them are still unhinged in terms of morals but still have good inside of them. I have them all still being Kirby's friends, after all.

five good things

What the hell, it's time for one of these again I think. Let's see.

I am actually rather looking forward to getting back to work tomorrow, after three weeks off. This basically never happens. XD I love my jobs, but I always love my time off more. This time, though, I feel like I've had enough time at home, and I'm looking forward to getting back to work on all my various projects and pet things.

I finally finished installing the lighting in Lego Rivendell after a WHOLE YEAR! I really enjoyed building the model over the holidays last year, but the lighting kit was really fiddly to install and the instruction photos weren't particularly clear, and it really rather sucked the joy out of it. However, it only took a couple of hours to get it finally finished, and now it looks amazing. Photos at some point! I have a display case for it, although of course it's been sitting gathering dust for a year so it needs a good gentle brushing-off first, and I need to figure out where all the bits that got knocked off while I was fitting the lights need to go back on, which is more or less impossible given the length of the instructions. Then I need to rebuild the smaller sets I had because they all got smashed when the missus pulled an extension cable out of my hands before I was ready over the summer, and THEN I might manage a few fic illustrations or something XD

I'm having enormous fun with a very delightful AU that @malkaleh and I are working on in Discord, most of which is never going to see the light of day but it is so much fun pinging ideas back and forth and bits of it are going into something I've been working on over the holidays and I am loving it! <3333333

I've also been having enormous fun with my friend over in the Måneskin fandom - we've been writing a collaborative fic, then she suggested something for me to write in the same 'verse, and then I've been absolutely devouring an unfinished work of hers which she began back in the summer of 2021, picked up in the summer/autumn of 2023 and hadn't quite managed to finish. I read and loved the first few chapters about a month ago, and then finally managed to free myself from my own talkative muses long enough to be able to read the rest and comment flailingly - and then the last few days we've been brainstorming an ending and she's finished it this morning! I am delighted, it's been so much fun. I've really missed this sort of collaboration, and I've missed writing with her so much, she always has the funniest ideas. It's been going on for 15 years, and I am so glad we're in a fandom together again!

The missus and I are preparing to have a really thorough declutter and sort the house out properly this year. I am very much looking forward to it, although it's going to be long and stressful and a lot of hard work and, doubtless, arguments XD

I've finally finished the second block of my MA course, which is cause for celebration because I have not enjoyed it. It's been a whistle-stop tour of various theoretical concepts in linguistics and it hasn't been at all clearly written. I also struggle to grasp most of these things - theoretical concepts are not my thing, I need concrete examples - and also Chomsky's universal grammar sounds like absolute bullshit to me; an innate template for learning language? Give me a break. Language is acquired from interaction and I can't help feeling that there's some sexism at work here because who do children traditionally interact most with? Heaven forfend women's work gets credited. I do need to read the history of women in linguistics that was mentioned in the first block, but I just haven't had the brainspace yet. Anyway, I've ploughed through it over the holidays and am now about three weeks ahead, and I just need to get the assignment done. I am reminding myself that this course is an introduction to linguistics so as to give us as many avenues as possible to choose from when we specialise, and I don't have to be interested in everything, and I don't have to understand what I'm not interested in, as long as I can do the assignments well enough, and I think I can. Well, they haven't released the final assignment yet because it's a new course, they're releasing the course material and assignments gradually, which I will absolutely be complaining about, because we haven't been able to look at the final assignment and figure out what we need to be concentrating on, whereas students on future presentations will get the whole lot up front. But ANYWAY. Block two is done, and once I've got the assignment out the way I can move on.

We went for a lovely walk in the Forest of Dean with my parents on Friday - it was freezing cold and very sunny and we went round part of the Forest of Dean Sculpture Trail which was absolutely delightful. Photos under the cut! I am something of a modern-art-and-sculpture nerd, in a fairly specific way (I can't describe what I like but I know it when I see it); I took LOADS of photos in galleries in Finland and I still haven't sorted them out to post here, but I am DETERMINED.

I have made progress on my I-am-not-going-to-sabotage-myself-any-more, as reported elsewhere, and have got myself tickets for Soul Asylum and Damiano David (I am going to be a very old person with an identity crisis in a sea of screaming young persons but actually I do not care XD ), and am contemplating seeing Bloodywood in Bristol just after my birthday.

I've been learning Italian via Duolingo, having finished (boom-boom!) the Finnish course before I went to Helsinki and become a little bored with the daily review; I had a bit of a go at Swedish given how much of it I come into contact with in Helsinki, and then got thoroughly distracted, probably to nobody's surprise XD but I'm greatly enjoying spotting the echoes of Latin, and the faint similarities to the French I learned 30-odd years ago. And I've started spotting words in Måneskin's lyrics and that's always an awesome feeling, when something suddenly makes sense :D

I think that's probably enough for now. I am not fond of January Photos of the sculptures we saw in the Forest under the cut!

We only saw three or four out of the 18 on the trail, but I'm going to go back for a walk round the whole route when the missus is out there on her mountain bike :D So...more later, maybe!
