Bringing my bullshit into Monster Hunter.
I'm not actually playing as this character, I just wanted to see how close I could get.
It's...ehh..
Why do so many character creators not have receding hairline options? This is bigoted against old men! >:/
Some guy at Capcom: "Why would anyone want to make a character with a receding hairline? No one would want that!"
WELL SOME OF US LIKE IT ACTUALLTY, JIM!

dancing with our hands tied (part v)
jamie tartt x female reader // nsfw 18+ // fwb
Tumblr media
masterlist // read on ao3
summary: facing the music (see also: em finally finishes this fic)
word count: 1.7k
༻✧✧✧༺
That night, you probably had the best night of rest in your life. After falling asleep, you and Jamie had drifted away a little bit, but his bed was supremely comfy, which made you spread out as if it was your own bed.
Around 4 a.m., true to his word, you woke up to the sound of Jamie rustling around his room, and an angry Roy Kent banging on his door. You pretended to be asleep while Jamie got ready, and held your breath when he came over and pressed a lingering kiss to your forehead before leaving.
You tried to go back to sleep, but after that tender moment, seemingly unnoticed by you, your brain wasn’t able to shut down again. You tossed and turned for another hour or so before finally deciding to get up.
You thought about waiting for Jamie downstairs, but the early morning light creeping through the windows brought about the overthinking that had plagued you yesterday evening. Being in Jamie’s house felt surreal in the morning light. You weren’t sure what he might say or do when he arrived back home-- would he make you breakfast, drive you to work?-- but you were sure your heart would burst if you stayed.
So you left. Grabbing your clothes, you thought about how different you felt about Jamie than before. You supposed you’d always liked him, at least a little bit to have had sex with him, but after entering his home, getting to know him, you feared you couldn’t walk away unscathed anymore.
He was so sweet, you mused on your drive home, with his soft gestures and caring words. It felt like a fever dream every time you entered his home, felt like you were seeing a side of him that he kept hidden from everyone.
You wondered what it was about you, that made him decide to let you in. And now, you supposed, you’d let him in as well. There was no way you would be fine after this. When it inevitably ended, you would be irreversibly changed. Maybe it would be better to end it before the fallout got any worse.
You knew you were being shitty by running away again, but some time alone to get ready for the new day was needed.
You’d see him at work soon enough anyways.
༻✧✧✧༺
When you get to work, you hustle your way to the locker room, trying to act as nonchalantly as possible while you leave his clothes in his locker.
You think you’re in the clear since it’s so early in the morning, but just as you’re about to walk out one door, Jamie walks in the other door with Sam. You feel yourself cringe as he calls out after you.
“Hey, wait!”
Jamie catches your arm just before you slip out, and you turn around, feeling like a kid that got caught with their arm in the candy jar. You look behind Jamie is see Sam at his own locker, trying to remain invisible but not doing a good job.
You square your shoulders, in an attempt to be casual.
“Just dropped off your stuff,” you say. With a glance at Sam, you lower your voice. “Thanks again, for last night.”
Jamie looks irritated by your words. “That’s it?”
You give him a questioning look.
“You left!” he exclaims. “I came back from my run with breakfast but when I went upstairs, you were gone.”
A part of you feels extremely guilty for leaving without saying goodbye. Thinking of his wounded face when he saw you weren’t there. It made your heart squeeze uncomfortably.
“I…” you try to reason. “I had to go home and get ready for work.”
He scoffs, rolling his eyes. “Before 7 a.m.? You know what-- fuck this!”
He turns away from you, clearly frustrated. You can’t move, standing as still as a statue, surprised by the outburst.
At his loud tone, the few players that had begun to trickle into the room slowly backed out. You looked over to find Sam was also nowhere to be found. It made you feel less scared with no audience around.
“This was just sex, Jamie,” you say. “We don’t owe each other anything.”
“This hasn’t been ‘just sex’ in a while and you know it!”
You try to defend yourself but he continues.
“You can’t keep ignoring it. Go out with the fucking nutritionist and ignore my messages and pretend you don’t want me, but at the end of the day, you still end up coming back to me.”
“That’s not true--”
“It is!” he exclaims, before softening. “And-- and I want that. I want you. I care about you.”
“But you’re you. You’re saying you what, you have feelings for me?” you ask.
He takes a step back, stung by your words. “Would that be such a bad thing?”
You pause, stunned by his bluntness.
Isaac and Colin come in at that moment, and ask Jamie something, not having noticed the tension in the air. You use the brief distraction to slip out of the room, too afraid of what you might say if you stayed.
You barely get any work done all day, knowing in the back of your mind that the conversation is nowhere near over. Jamie’s appointment after training looms in your mind.
He finally shows up in the late afternoon, having stayed after to run extra drills with Roy.
Jamie sits down like it’s any other day, but there’s a lingering tension that makes you want to flee.
You go about like normal, asking him if there were any issues during training.
“Physically? No. Emotionally? Yes,” he replies, his lips set into a thin line.
You huff. You know he can be kind of dramatic, but you also know you kind of deserve it.
You start working on his legs after he lays down on the table, trying to focus on the task at hand.
It takes several minutes for you to get the courage to speak again.
“I should apologize,” you say quietly.
He doesn’t say anything but his head turns just slightly to look back at you.
You gulp. “I um, I was naive, to think I could do something casual with you without feelings getting in the way. And I shouldn’t be treating you like this.”
He looks away again.
“Well I’m sorry my feelings got in the way,” he huffs.
His feelings? No, you meant yours.
“That’s not what I meant,” you try to amend. “I didn’t want to attempt anything other than sex because you’re you--” he looks back at you with hurt gleaming in his eyes-- “And if I let myself have feelings for you, I knew I wouldn’t recover when you eventually pushed me away.”
Jamie sits up abruptly, halting your work and forcing you to focus on the conversation.
“When have I pushed you away? You’re the one keeping me at a distance!” he exclaims. “You only come around when it's convenient for you.”
You hang your head low, letting the awful feelings wash over you. “I know, I’m sorry I’ve just been using you… I don’t know how to do any of this.”
You can feel your hands shaking with every word. When was the last time you were this honest with someone, or even yourself?
“I could’ve been more honest, too.” Jamie says, getting you to look back up at him. “I think I was just willing to take anything you’d give me.”
You shake your head. “That’s not fair to you.”
He nods, “Yeah I know. I just really like you. I want to see where this goes.”
He slides closer on the table, grabbing you by the waist to slot you between his legs.
“Just, give me a chance, please,” he says softly. “See if you have feelings for me, yeah?”
“That’s the problem,” you admit. “I think I already do.”
You rest your hands on his shoulders, looking him square in the eye, trying to let yourself be vulnerable to him.
“Yeah?”
“Yeah.”
You smile at him, letting yourself sit in his presence and find comfort in the moment. You’re safe here. He’s told you that so many times, and it’s time you finally let yourself see it as the truth.
“I’m sorry for everything, but I’m really sorry for leaving,” you say, and he squeezes your sides in reassurance. “You were really sweet and lovely last night and I don’t deserve your kindness.”
“You do,” he says, reassuring his words from last night. “We both deserve good things. We can figure it out together.”
He leans in before you can say anything else, pressing his lips to yours. The kiss is soft, a promise of possibility. You let yourself melt into his embrace, clutching his shoulders like its your lifeline.
“Next time, I’ll be there,” you say resolutely as you pull away, “I’ll stay all morning if you want. I promise.”
He cracks a smile. “Quite presumptuous aren’t you?”
“But I thought--”
“I’m just joking, love,” he says, pecking your lips. “I want you there.”
You let out a sigh of relief. “Good. I want to be there.”
Jamie kisses you again, lifting you into his lap on the treatment table. You straddle his hips and grind down on him in a way that is probably erasing all the hard work you’d done to loosen his muscles after training.
You gasp into his mouth, and while it might not be the first time you’ve got it on at work, it feels different this time. Your hands roam across his chest and into his hair and he tucks at your bottom lip, eliciting more sounds from you.
“Oi, what the fuck?”
You break apart from Jamie to see Roy entering the room, his typically grumpy face in a state of shock.
With wide eyes, you try to slide off Jamie but he keeps his arms wrapped around you, keeping you from escaping.
“Nope, you’re staying here,” he says. “All in, right?”
You nod in agreement. All in.

What's your opinion of what everyone did after the sealing of Darkstalker in the legends book? It just seemed way too quick with how they just moved on from the horrors, as Fathom and Indigo had kids and Clearsight flew off to a new continent to have kids with and create a whole new tribe. On another note, considering how Fathom was kind of banished (from what I remember) and had kids split off from the Royal Family, do you think there may be a descendant of Fathom somewhere hiding with Animus powers? Or do you think they just ended up being adopted back into the royal family after being discovered?
I personally consider Legends: Darkstalker the best book in the series, in part because I believe Sutherland's writing shines when she is not binding herself to the 5 books arc structure.
That said, the ending does have a bit of that one particular prequel problem. You know, the one where the characters are confirmed to be at a certain location in the future, so they absolutely HAVE to end the prequel story getting to that location IMMEDIATELY.
That's what I was thinking with regards to Clearsight's ending. Now, everyone deals with trauma differently, so I can only comment on her actions from my own limited point of view. I don't think I could have done what she did, at least not so suddenly. She had relationships beyond Darkstalker, with Listener and her parents, whom she presumably was still on good terms with. Like, especially her parents I think never actually learned what happened to her. They might have continued living thinking their only daughter died in the evacuation.
When I think of that part of the book, I personally like to envision an epilogue where Clearsight returns to her parents and lives with the Nightwings for a while (a couple years maybe). Her parents are supportive and Listener is grateful and admires her friend for saving her family. So much so that she reverses her stance on futuresight and authors a scroll about it, crediting Clearsight as a master prophet (this is the scroll that Moonwatcher later reads).
But the other Nightwings still fear Darkstalker, and they remember his girlfriend who stood on stage with him and looked at him adoringly as Darkstalker massacred his own father (they don't know she was tricking Darkstalker). So there is public tension building at Clearsight living with them, and it begins to negatively impact the people who support her. In the end, Clearsight decides to leave the tribe, both to protect her loved ones from getting caught up in her fallout and to separate herself from all that trauma and find her fortune on the new continent.
Notably, she actually tells her friends and parents about that plan this time, and they don't spend the rest of their lives wondering what happened.
As for Fathom and any potential descendants, there is a 'realistic but boring' answer, and one that is a bit more interesting narratively.
The boring answer is that, yes, there are descendants of Fathom around. Lots of them. It is inevitable. If you take an individual and step back one generation, you find they will have 2 parents. Above that they have 4 grandparents. Then 8 great-grandparents, 16 great-great-grandparents. At 10 generations back we are looking at 1024 theoretical ancestors. Now as these numbers get bigger, some of these lines will cross-breed with each other again, so the math isn't entirely clean, but just trust me that these numbers balloon really fast the more generations you go back.
Fathom was alive 2000 years ago. If we lean conservatively and say the average dragon has eggs at age 20, that means 100 generations have come and gone from then to today. The number of ancestors over this many generations is so high, you might pick any Seawing currently alive in present day and there will be a very decent chance of them having Fathom somewhere in their bloodline.
You go back far enough and everyone starts to be related to everyone else. Ancestry is funny like that.
For the more narratively interesting answer: I do believe Fathom re-integrated into the royal family again. One thing that needs to be kept in mind is that Pearl, like her brother, also had her entire life uprooted by the Royal Seawing Massacre. She was all at once dealing with the shock of losing her parents and the stress of having to now run the entire kingdom without being prepared for it at all. There was no time to process any grief, or the lingering fear. When she sent her brother away and forbade him to have children, that wasn't an act of malice, it was the only solution she could think of to keep everyone safe from the future threat of magic without also having to execute the last part of her family.
Neither of them ever had any ill will against the other. Pearl was dealt the shittiest of hands and she tried to make the best play she could at the time, while desperately trying to keep herself together. That is what I think.
As Pearl and Fathom got older and the situation in the Sea Kingdom stabilized, Pearl might have finally been able to reflect upon what happened and to process some of her neglected emotional turmoil. I believe Fathom eventually reached out again and they both found a way to reconcile, mending their fractured relationship. I don't know if Fathom moved back into the palace; perhaps he chose to stay away to keep the rest of the populace at ease. But I think his children or grand-children would eventually re-integrate into the royal family.
This turned out a bit wordy and the question was sitting in my inbox for a good while. But I hope this provides an interesting answer.

Fallout Characters' Lover's Embrace Quotes -- Extras
(Original ask): Hello 😊 I absolutely adore everything you do for the characters you write for! You get the interactions and such perfect every time I read something new 💕 I have a personal headcanon, not full blown request if you don't want it to be, question for you. If you could romance the companions in New Vegas like in 4, what would some of their lovers embrace quotes be? I love how you think and can't wait to hear what ideas you have for any of the characters ❤ have a good day
So I didn't actually get any requests for these specific characters that I can remember, but I had this in my WIPs folder, and had a good time looking back on them, so here they are!
As always, if you would like me to add any characters to this, please let me know, and I'll be happy to 😊
Also, here's a link to my first Lover's Embrace Quotes post with the FO3 and FNV Companions.
Just a heads up, too, a bit of nsfw below the cut (nothing explicit, but definitely some implicit stuffs).
Fallout 4:
Codsworth:
“Prepared to face the day, sir/madam?”
“Oh my, now that was exciting!”
“Your hair, sir/miss. Allow me to fix it for you?”
“Good morning, sir/madam!”
“My, you are truly amazing, my sweet.”
Deacon:
“Whoa, when did you get here?”
“Up for one more round? No?... Yes?”
“Just another minute. Then we can kick some ass or whatever.”
“Gooood morning! And it is a beautiful day out in the Commonwealth, the weather is looking mighty fine in this– Oh, you’re up? Okay, just making sure.”
“Up and at ‘em, right boss?”
“Wow. That was fun.”
Maxson:
“Sleep well?”
“I’ll take that over morning drills any day. No, I don’t need you to tell Kells that.”
“Head’s still swimming…”
“Don’t make me get up, not yet.”
“Damn… Incredible.”
Nick:
“Can’t take my eyes off you….”
“Ain’t I the luckiest synth there is?”
“Say… where’d my cuffs get off to, doll? May need ‘em for later.”
"Well, that's one way to get the coolant pumping." (I know this is already a line of his, but I mean come on. It's too good not to use)
“What do you say, about ready to go?”
“That sure was somethin’, sweetheart.”
Sturges:
“Mornin’ gorgeous/handsome.”
“Ain’t nothin’ better than wakin’ up like that.”
“You really are incredible, you know that?”
“What a perfect way to start my day… wakin’ up next to you.”
“*whistles* That was somethin,’ baby.”
X6-88:
“Good morning, ma’am/sir.”
“Awake quite yet?”
“Damn.”
“Sleep well, ma’am/sir?”
“I… Didn’t know I could feel like that…”
Fallout 3:
Mr. Burke:
“I suppose there are worse ways to wake up.”
“Care for some coffee?”
“Just a moment more, sweet one.”
“Ahh, you vixen/scoundrel.”
“Just turn over. It can’t be time yet.”
Harkness:
“Starting our day off right, I see.”
“It can’t really be time to get up, can it?”
“Mm, good morning…”
“What’re you… Oh? Well, a few more minutes, then.”
“Babe, have you seen my handcuffs?”
Sarah Lyons:
“Up and at ‘em. Come on.”
“Oh, good, you’re finally up.”
“The others better not have heard us.”
“Quit your groaning, it’s not that early.”
“Best to have a shower after all that.”
Fallout New Vegas:
Benny:
“Ring-a-ding, baby. Time to rise.”
“Easy there, squeeze. Save some for tonight.”
“Can’t be time yet. Stay here awhile, lemme hold ya.”
“Geeze baby, you wear me out.”
“24-karate, pussy cat. Just platinum...”
Colonel Hsu:
"Right, then... Up we get."
“Well… that was an excellent performance. Top marks from me, private.”
“Rise and shine, love.”
“Now that was worth waking for at this hour.”
“Wish we had a few more moments…”
Joshua Graham:
“Just… divine.”
“Care to pray with me this morning?”
“Wake up, dear one.”
“Praise be to Him who lights the sky…”
“Ahh… still, your love heals me.”
Ulysses:
"Be slow, beloved. We can take our time."
“Another sunrise…”
“Time to wake.”
“So… It wasn’t a dream. Hm.”
*huffing* “Need another rest after that.”
Victor:
“Shoo, didn’t know you had that in ya.”
“Where to today, pardner?”
“You look like I dug ya outta that grave again, hehe. Only teasin’.”
“Well, how-dy.”
“Mornin,’ pardner. How’d you sleep?”
Vulpes:
“Awake at last? Good.”
“Mm. Expect the same from me tonight, courier.”
“Ave, amica mea.”
“Ah, to hear my name sound from your lips… A fine sound this morning.”
“Expergiscimini. The sun has risen.”
Yes Man:
“Wow, Six, that was the best way to start the day!”
“I sure am glad to have you by my side.”
“Rise and shine!”
“What a great morning it is!”
“Boy, that sure was fun! Ready to make a difference today?”

Mornings Like These
Tumblr media
Cooper Howard x Fem Reader
CW: slightly NSFW, established relationship, mentions of sex, sexual daydream, OOC Cooper, Cooper in a frilly apron cooking, cursing, slight deviance from the canon, more domestic Cooper because 🥹❤️
AN: Had the most wonderful request to do something a little different than what I’m used to! I know it’s out of character for our cowboy ghoul but I just loved the concept. This is a continuation of my last work, so it is set in the same Fallout TV series and Fallout 4 tense. Breakfast is served my lovely Cooper simps, hope I did your ask justice @morrrrow !! Hope y’all enjoy!
“God damn this fuckin’ thing” spoke the ever recognizable southern twang of Cooper from the kitchen. You woke up to hearing a few pots and pans clank together as he removed them from the cabinet, and his not so quiet curses in frustration that he was a man who failed at being quiet. Outside of bounty hunting of course. You were still in bed, having just barely woken up as the sun poured in through the windows, making you rub the sleep from your eyes. You padded into the kitchen to see what all the noise was about, seeing him trying to work the stove that you both bought off of someone that was supposed to be repaired and in working order. “What a fuckin’ rip off” he said angrily as he threw the towel down on the floor that was resting on his shoulder, then leaned over the sink to breathe, doing his best to try to control his anger before he started breaking things. “Stove givin’ ya trouble, hun?” You asked, your voice carrying a sleepy rasp to it as a small playful smile stretched to your lips, making him look over at you. In that moment, it was as if all the anger inside of him had just melted away upon seeing you, clad in just a tank top and underwear, hair slightly messy from sleep. You were truly a sight to behold at all hours of the day in his eyes. “Shit, I’m sorry darlin’. I wanted t’ surprise you with breakfast but this damn thing won’t work. Shoulda known it was a fat load a shit when he said it was workin’” he replied, defeat and agitation still evident in his tone, making you walk closer to him and grab his hand. “Hey, it’s okay, Coop. I think it’s mighty sweet you wanted t’ do that. Can I take a look? Maybe a fresh set’a eyes can help?” You asked, watching as his shoulders dropped a little bit as the tension left him at your touch, a small smile reaching his thin, marred lips as he looked down at his girl. “Go ‘head” he replied, starting to follow you and what you were trying to do but you stopped him before he could do anything. “*You* have a seat and relax, I’ll take a look, ‘kay?” you said, your hands resting on his shoulders to make sure he listened to you, knowing well and good his stubbornness was his biggest attribute. He gave a grunt before giving in, recognizing that you just wanted him to relax after being all worked up. “I’ll take care of it, promise. I’m a big girl, but if I need anythin’ I’ll holler for ya” you said, smiling up at him sweetly once more as you rubbed his shoulders a little before kissing him softly. His hands rested on your hips for a moment as you kissed, and in that moment, everything felt at peace in the world. As you parted from the kiss, you turned and moved out of his way before coming to take a look at the new appliance. Well, maybe not *new* but new for post war standards. You took a look at the wiring, noticing that it looked pretty good for a shit box that survived a nuclear bomb or two. No rust, no corrosion, hell even the paint didn’t look half bad. Cooper knew he had to get it for you the moment your pretty eyes lit up with excitement upon seeing it, going on about how much you missed making homemade pies, casseroles, and bread. He knew you were one hell of a cook with the passion you put into making some iguana, or even your famous stew he’d grown to love that was made from just about anything you could get your hands on. He swore you put some kind of drugs in your food with the way he craved it all the time, he’d joke that you could put cyanide in it and still manage to make it taste delicious. And that was just over a fire, he could only imagine the creations you’d put out if given the right materials. Seeing you working a stove, in a house that was starting to get pretty settled into, would be one step closer to the dream of having a domestic life with you when the rest of the world had gone to shit. He wanted to see you happy, because when you were happy, everything was alright in the world in his book.
You opened the door to the stove, bent over and examining the inside for any reason as to why it wasn’t working. The broiler seemed good, all the coils were there, nothing was rusted or corroded so you weren’t quite sure what the issue was. Cooper however, was in a whole other world looking at you. Had he been the man he was before meeting you, he’d have had half the mind to fuck you right then and there while your body was half way in the oven. He gave a groan at his own daydream, watching you with your ass in the air, clad in just the panties you were wearing, making him shift in the small, dining room chair he was sitting on as his pants began to grown uncomfortably tight. You always had a way of getting to him, whether you meant to or not, that man stayed feral for you all hours of the day. He wondered if your moans would be muffled or amplified with your head stuck in the oven, how you’d squeeze him tight with the slight sensory depravation. What he really wanted was the memory to play in your mind each time you’d use it, for you to bend down and remember the way he used you in that same position as you’d slide a casserole in the oven. He was broken from his daydream when you called his name, finding that you were no longer in the kitchen but outside checking the power source. He stood up and walked towards the front door, leaning in the open doorway as you stood outside, looking to him with a relieved smile as you found the solution. “Was wonderin’ why it was so hot in there” you thought out loud, explaining that it was a problem with the power source, not the stove itself before flipping a few switches and connecting a few wires then hearing your electricity hum back to life. “‘s ‘cause you’re here” he joked flirtatiously, sending a wink and a smirk your way, making you giggle. “Wasn’t the stove, was the power. Radstorm must’ve knocked it out last night” you said as you both came back inside, plugging the stove back in and sure as shit, it turned on. You dusted your hands off, standing there proudly in front of your new, working oven. He was thoroughly impressed. “Well I’ll be damned, when’d you get so handy?” Cooper asked with a teasing grin, making you smile as he looped an arm around your waist proud that his little lady was able to fix the problem. “Since I had to start fixin’ things ‘fore you break ‘em” you teased, coming up to kiss his cheek as he swatted your ass affectionately in retaliation.
“Ya know, before you start cookin’ I have the perfect thing for you to wear” you said, slipping from his grasp for only a moment, making him raise a brow at you as you giggled and treaded into the closet of what you called your bedroom. You opened it, finding a frilly white apron you used to own back in the day when you would bake and cook everything by hand at home. You smiled as you grabbed it, knowing full and well you’d have hell to pay for this little stunt, but when has that ever stopped you before? So you snatched it up, leaving it folded before coming back into the kitchen and handing it to him. “A good cook needs a good apron, and I just know this one would look damn good on you” you said, handing it to him with the most mischievous glint in your eyes and grin stretched to your lips, leaving him to unfold it and look it over. Now this was where you were expecting to get in some serious shit. To hear a chide comment or a “never in a million years, sugar” but no, this man looked at you like you’d handed him a challenge, and he was going to take it in stride. So with a smirk, he set it aside and started to shake his duster off from his frame. “I’ll do ya one better there, little lady” he said, that look in his eyes told you he was up to no good and it had you curious. He started working his shirt off and you’d be damned if you weren’t enjoying the sight of him shirtless and just in his pants, the decorative buckle on his belt helping him maintain that rugged cowboy look. He noticed your stares, giving a dry chuckle. “Like whatchya see, sweetheart?” He asked, his voice dipping a little lower but he didn’t need you to say anything, he already knew the answer. “Always” you replied, a half lidded expression on your face as your tone dripped with something a little less pure. What you really hadn’t been expecting was when you saw him take his pants and briefs off before you, a slack jawed grin coming to your mouth as he tied the apron around his frame. Completely naked underneath. You gave a laugh as you watched him wear it with pride. “You sir, never fail to surprise me” you said, making him chuckle but you spotted the tent that started to poke at the apron where he was getting hard underneath. “Think you’re right, it’s a pretty good look” he said, turning to face away from you and you gave that same crude whistle he’d always give you when he liked something you wore or did, because you had an eye full of ass standing right in front of you. You walked up and stood behind him, wrapping your arms around his torso and laying kisses to his shoulder and back. “On second thought, who needs breakfast when you look this good? Hell, I think you pull it off better than I ever did” you said through a giggle, feeling him swat at your grabby hands the way you do when he gets handsy with you. “Can’t disturb a chef when he’s cookin’, sugar” he said coyly, making you chuckle as he started frying a few slices of Cram in the skillet. “Oh but you can disturb me when I’m doin’ laundry? I see how it is” You said playfully as you took a seat down at the dinner table you two found, it wasn’t much, but it was nice all things considered. Gave that homey touch that was missing from the house when you two first put together the settlement. You watched as he romped around the kitchen, going out of his way to put on a show for you and get you as worked up as you make him. “You are such a tease” you said, making him grin as he had his back turned to you, fully focused on making a good breakfast for the two of you to enjoy. “Welcome to my world, sweetheart” he said, making you laugh. You could certainly get used to this.

You’re the risk I want to take by @hergrandplan 41k words. Complete. Rating M. Gold and Silver by signedmeraki @invisiblewille 6k words. Complete. Rating T. Normally the main fight at the Olympics is to see who gets first. But ever since Simon took the swimming world by a storm during the Rio Olympics in 2016, it's not been a question of who would get first, but who would join the Venezuelan swimmer and his equally accomplished Swedish rival on the podium in third.
Kyss mig meg dina röda läppar by @skibasyndrome 3k words. Complete. Rating T. Wille and Simon are friends sharing cherries at a picnic. (Honourable mention to One, two, three (Not only you and me) by the same author).

ive been replaying fallout 4 for a while and i gotta ask. what do you think of the actual game? the vanilla story?
in my experience it's people like you who actually make it interesting and get some meat on the bones of the game (if that makes sense). i get super invested in your work, then i get disappointed when i play the game. nick is still for sure the best part tho!
aw, thank you! god, when i first started dead man talking and was just sending the googledoc to friends i had a running tally of people i got to play fallout 4 who'd then come back to me a few days later like 'this isn't what i thought it'd be'. my final count is twelve
my experience with base fo4 is a funny one. funny as in strange. i can talk all day about its flaws, what it did wrong, and so on and so forth (i think its main plot isn't very good), but the game came out a decade ago and i think i'd be treading over old points. due to the circumstances in which i played it i'm hugely, hugely fond of it, even among the 'better' games quote unquote. i really like the settlement stuff, poking around old buildings, the art direction and atmosphere. i might talk about those circumstances one day, but the vague overview is that i was looking after a very sick family member undergoing rapid decline during lockdown and, in the very, very little time i had to myself, fallout 4 was the game i picked up just to have something to do that wasn't be utterly, hopelessly miserable, and it worked.
there's no such thing as an 'objective' take on art, and anybody who tells you otherwise is trying to sell you something of theirs, but i think my one would be the least objective possible. i do, for its many flaws (and honestly i think in part because of them, i think that sort of thing is really compelling), genuinely like fallout 4. might that be different if i'd played it under better circumstances? maybe! but we'll never know, and this is the world we live in. i'd like to think that comes across in the books and the comics. i'm not attempting to condescend to the audience who enjoyed the game enough to seek out fan works, i'm just trying to augment some things to better suit the genre i operate in. put my own spin on it. not to 'improve', or anything, i think that'd be far too conceited of me! but my affection for it is genuine, flaws and all

Not All That Glitters is Gold Part 17
This is the last chapter of this story. I do have the sequel halfway written and it will be most of the way, if not all the way done before I post the first chapter.
It's called "Everything I Ever Wanted" and will be four chapters, each based on a part of Steve's new life I wanted to highlight. Retirement, Steve's charity, the bonding and mating, and the birth of their first child and the fallout with his parents.
I will still keep the Glitters tag list for the sequel. I wouldn't normally, but it's such a little thing, it's just easier that way. If you want to be taken off the list for the sequel, let me know.
Here is Steve's happily ever after. As it should be.
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 Part 8 Part 9 Part 10 Part 11 Part 12 Part 13 Part 14 Part 15 Part 16
****
Steve hated his heats before, but he loathed them now. Now he had an alpha he wanted to share it with, only they weren’t allowed to.
It was only a mini heat to clear out a minor faux bond and would barely last twenty four hours, but they would be the most miserable twenty four hours of his life and that included the twenty four hours after he learned he was infertile.
But Robin was the best handler in the business for a reason. The second his body temperature spiked, Xander and her got Eddie out and into her apartment, still in rut as he was.
Then she rebuilt Steve’s nest from scratch to perfection with the minor edition of Eddie’s handkerchief under his pillow.
The handkerchief plus, Eddie’s scent still sending out waves toward Steve’s apartment would help mitigate the absolute misery he would be in, but he still hated it.
Once all traces of the heat were out of his system, and his temperature going back to normal was Steve allowed visitors. Not even Robin was allowed inside his bedroom during his heats.
Though that was mainly because the poor omega was so pitiful and crying that a lot of handlers would be emotional wrecks afterwards.
Robin had made the mistake once when a heat came a week early due to some stress that was happening in Steve’s life and she was a sobbing mess the whole time he was in heat.
No one knew why the sight of an omega in heat drove betas to such an extreme emotional response, but the prevailing theory was that it was an evolutionary throw back to the pre-historic era so that betas would be moved to not take advantage of the omega in their most vulnerable time.
He showered and stepped out to his front room and smiled. Robin and Eddie were on the sofa waiting for him.
“Hey, princess,” Eddie murmured. “How are you feeling?”
Steve groaned and flopped down on the seat between the two of them. “Like I’ve been run over. The mini heats are the worst. Because you can’t prepare for them.”
“Especially since that was his first mini heat,” Robin commented dryly, “that automatically makes it worse.”
Eddie raised an eyebrow. “You don’t usually get mini heats?”
“Nope!” Steve said, popping the P. “Robin carefully curates my clients so that it’s never happened. I’ve experienced faux bonds before, the chemical bonding of scents instead of an actual bite bond. Those are common enough. But no, no mini heats for me.”
Eddie looked over at Robin who looked smug.
“Well that’s good then,” he said.
Steve nodded. He chewed on his lower lip and sighed. “I think we need to talk about the golden omega thing. It’s not possible, right?”
Robin and Eddie raised their eyebrows.
“Stevie,” Eddie said gently, “not only is it possible, it’s highly probable.”
Steve looked over at Robin and she nodded.
“Wait, what?”
“You don’t have to do anything about it now,” Robin said. “As long as you are a Starcourt escort you’ll spend your heats alone. And then if you want to get bonded to Eddie and have pups with him, walk away from the job and then mate.”
Steve went stock still as he mulled it over in his mind. Eddie and Robin exchanged concerned glances but stayed silent as Steve’s entire world view was shifted on its axis.
Starcourt had always treated Steve like he was special. It was one of the reasons his cherry popping was such a major event. His parents had sneered at the whole experience, but the agency had gone out of their way to make Steve feel safe in the process.
But to be a golden omega for real? And not just because Eddie wanted him to be special. Not that Eddie didn’t already think he was special, but this would cement how special Steve actually was.
He knew his parents would immediately come out of the woodwork to claim more money for being a golden omega, but it would also be the sweetest justice imaginable.
Because they could have gotten more from Steve’s omegahood and chose to throw him away like he didn’t matter. Only coming back when they needed more money.
“Explain it to me,” he whispered.
And they did. Robin leading the way with Eddie filling in spots where he thought Steve needed more clarity. When they were done Steve looked at Robin and said with tears in his eyes, “If I retire do I lose you?”
Robin’s lip quivered and she got up on her knees. She gently took Steve’s face in her hands. “No. Absolutely not. Yes, an omega escort has to be a handler’s top priority, but you are my best friend. My platonic soulmate, you’d have to murder me to get me to leave you. Do you understand?”
Steve nodded and then threw himself into her arms. Having to choose between the love of his life and his best friend would have been the hardest thing he would have ever had to do. But this made it easy.
They talked about it for a bit and ultimately it was decided Steve would retire when he turned thirty. It would give him a couple more years do a job he loved, but still give Eddie and him plenty of time to have pups.
“That’s a perfect solution,” Eddie agreed. “And I think the band will agree to a couple years break making music so we can all focus on our family lives.”
Steve’s omega chirped happily. Eddie chuckled and pulled him onto his lap. He nuzzled Steve’s scent gland and the omega chirped again.
“Look at you,” Robin said happily. “All content and comfortable. You just got every thing you could ever want, you lucky bastard.”
Steve grinned at her. “I am so blessed.”
Eddie blew a raspberry under Steve’s ear causing him to giggle.
“Eddie!” he protested, trying to push the alpha away, but Eddie did it again, this time on his cheek.
Soon they were wrestling and Steve ended up on the floor, looking up at a surprised Eddie.
“Rude,” Steve huffed as he got to his feet.
“Oops!”
Robin shook her head.
Eddie brought out Steve’s silly side and Steve let Eddie be himself. Apparently the universe knew what it was doing after all with these two.
****
The next three years passed by in a blur.
Chrissy had become the star Steve always knew she was. But of course, that meant her ex-boyfriend and her mother found out about her leaving the convent.
Steve was actually there to witness their faces, purple with rage showing up at some event she was at. The alpha actress she was with had to call security to get them removed.
Chrissy released a statement through the agency that spoke of her love of the job, the religious abuse her mother had put her through, and the love she thought was eternal with Jason turning to ash when she found out she couldn’t bear his children.
She spoke of the love that the sisters had shown her when her mother had dropped her off at the convent against the wishes of her father and her own. About how half of her cherry price went to those same sisters who had protected her from the wrath of her mother for years.
She spoke about how she found her people with Starcourt Services. How she had good friends, made good money, and how her father had supported her every step of the way. And how the other half of her cherry price would always be waiting for her if she ever wanted to leave. Something that after some serious soul searching she knew would not be for a long, long time.
Chrissy’s story burst open a scandal that had been the Church’s best kept secret, that a third of the omegas that came to them after learning they were infertile were brought there against their will by religious extremist parents not wanting their omega child to live their own lives.
Max and Lucas finally announced they were bonding after Lucas played his first game in the NBA as the first omega point guard for the Indiana Pacers, having won their law suit.
With Steve retiring, Robin was going to be Chrissy’s handler. Robin hadn’t lasted with Vickie due to them wanting different things out of life. Robin loved her job, but Vickie wanted more of her time to be focused just on her, something Robin wasn’t willing to do.
Tommy had been kicked out of the agency after he had a very public fight with his ex-girlfriend, Carol. He was supposed to be escorting Billy Hargrove but had found him in a bathroom with known omega starlet, Heather Holloway, his dick in her.
Carol had thrown it in his face that he couldn’t even get wandering Billy Hargrove to stay still long enough. Tommy had thrown hands and Starcourt had thrown him out.
Last Steve heard he was working as a pre-school teacher, barely making a tenth the amount he was at Starcourt. But he had found an alpha and they were happy together, satisfied for the first time in his life.
Jonathan was pregnant with Nancy and his second child. Steve was actually happy for them when they announced it.
Eddie’s band was topping the charts and had done a couple of tours. Steve had missed him, but with work keeping him busy, they were able to keep up a healthy communication.
Elinor and Gareth had decided to bond. Elinor knew that she would never reach the heights of Steve or Chrissy so when the last of her cherry price had been paid, she left the agency to be a rockstar’s wife.
Steve couldn’t wait to spend his first heat with Eddie. What was even better was the fact that Eddie’s rut had synced up with Steve’s heat and everyone knew to stay away for that week.
Their bonding and wedding ceremony was the talk of the town, Steve and Eddie surrounded by all their friends and loved ones. The whole Party was there.
Steve had taken preemptive measures against his parents, knowing that they would try and get more money from him, once Eddie and Steve announced that they had gotten pregnant.
He had a protective order ready to spring into affect the moment they tried anything. Lawyers on speed dial, and security on standby.
He had the life he had always dreamed of. A soulmate who would bond him and give him the pups he so desperately desired, who loved and cared for him like no one in his life could match. Robin came close. Because of course she did. Maybe not more or less than Eddie, but different.
And when that first little one came to loving and adoring parents, Steve knew that regardless if Dustin was omega, alpha, beta, or infertile Eddie and Steve would love him and support him no matter where he chose to go in life.
And that was the perfect ending to Steve’s story, he thought. Eddie couldn’t help but agree.

BNHA 426 - First thoughts
I have mixed feelings:
My No 1 wish was Toya being able to talk, so I'm glad we got that. Though super-sad about the "slowly dying" thing. But he's not dead yet - so I'll consider that "open ending" for now.
Way too much focus again on Enji feeling bad - I'm glad Toya called him out for doing everything only when it's too late / doesn't matter anymore
I’m also glad that Touya reached his goal - he destroyed Endeavor, the hero fully. His body, his reputation, his legacy. Everything Touya was created for, he burnt to ash. (But at what price 😭)
it's also super-hollow to say he's sheltering the family from the fallout, after they've just talked about how Fuyumi lost her job (and got a new one through the connections she herself built). How is he going to do that?
What a contrast between Bakugou and Deku getting thanks from All Might and being called greatest heroes - while not a single person in this family thanks Shoto for the extraordinary efforts he made for them (not only in this war, but since his first visit to Rei) -> they never deserved my boy tbh...
The Shoto - Toya scene was easily the highlight of the chapter for me. I really wanted this for both of them. Everyone in the family is talking about how they will talk, but Shoto is the one actually asking a question to Toya; he still wants to know his brother after everything.
And I love how that's the final breakthrough for Toya -words supported by actions - to start crying and to say sorry. I think his inability to cry was one of the big reasons he could never move on, so I hope in whatever time he has left, he can get the emotional closure he needs. And I'm glad Shoto got at least one person in the family acknowledge his efforts, even if with just a "sorry".
It makes me super-sad though because you can see that Toya and Shoto's relationship had so much potential!!! They would have been the best of brothers.
Natsuo cutting off Endeavor is fine for me. I didn't expect a big group hug - all the kids are grown up with their own lives - like Toya said "why not sooner". Them becoming a big happy family was never on the cards. Though I'm more disappointed Natsuo had nothing to say to Toya. He's a lot like his father.
Is Rei sticking with Endeavor? I hope she's just escorting him to the agency car and not like moving back to the house with him.
I'm super disappointed that Shoto got no hug from his mom or even a line of direct dialogue. In 426 chapters, they never spoke directly!!!!! - Shoto is the only kid in the family Rei never had a dialogue with as a grown up. Hori really fumbled her too.
So Shoto - just like Izuku to Bakugou - never gets to respond properly to Endeavor's apology. Still, I interpret his line to Enji and Rei that even if the family doesn't get a dream ending, he's going to be ok because he has friends who support him and he's strong enough to shape his own identity. I'm glad we didn't get like a "it's water under the bridge" or an even worse "I'll restore the family's honor" kind of plot for Shoto. He did everything he could, he did the heavy lifting for every single relationship - he's more than earned his freedom (though I doubt that the public will easily forget that he's "Endeavor's son and Dabi's brother").
It's really bittersweet, but Shoto is still better off compared to where he started - he built some kind of relationship (however distant) with every person in his family and I guess he'll stay in touch without feeling like he has to carry all of them.
And more importantly has a safety net of friends, and he got out from under his father's thumb, away from the toxicity of his birth, forged a positive self-image, has clear goals, etc. He's an amazingly strong person, with a great mental fortitude and I hope in the 4 remaining chapters we'll see him smile at least once. He deserves it.
I'm glad Kiddo and Onima are alive. I would have hated it if they died from the copied Phosphor. I guess Burnin' is running the agency now? Though probably it gets closed down after Endeavor's retirement.
Hawks being the new prez of the HPSC was expected. Let's see what he can do.
Nagant "I want to stay in prison" is super-weird, but whatever. Hers always felt like a half-baked plot.
Gentle/La Brava is the first canon ship confirmed. I don't like them, but good for them I guess.
So next up: Spinner - Deku talk?
I need some processing time and some translations and the missing pages, but it's not the best or the worst. It delivered the thing I wanted most, though less talking from Enji and more talking from Touya and Shouto would have been better.

Where All This Love Comes From
I'm so excited to share what has been known as Flashback Fic! 107k words, with all 14 chapters here on Ao3, rated E.
Six months after Gabriel Reyes’ death, TK grows concerned about Carlos’ drinking and brings him to a meeting at the Y. Afterwards, over omelets at the diner, the husbands open up to each other. TK reflects on meeting Carlos after years of addiction and self-destruction, while Carlos has continued to seek closure by uncovering two unknowns: The identity of his father’s killer, and how his father truly felt about Carlos as his son.
************************************************
Carlos puts his arms around him from behind and holds him still, kissing his neck. TK tries to twist in Carlos’ grip, but he won’t let him. He starts walking him towards the bedroom. “I’m desperate for you,” TK says, his blood hot, cheeks red, eyes pricking with tears. “I know.” “Make me forget everything.” “I will.” “I only want to think about you.” “You will.” Carlos stops for a breath. He smells TK – his clean hair, his evanesced cologne, his natural man scent, his salty tears that have imbued his skin, the sweat of stress. Sad, but still beautiful to Carlos. TK, delicious. “I never thought I’d have you. I never thought–” he can’t speak anymore.
***********************************************
Chapter 1: A Trail to Follow
In 2023, TK discovers something that triggers memories of heroin withdrawal seven years before – and Carlos makes amends with Gutiérrez after accusing him of his father’s murder.
Chapter 2: A Very Nice Sweater for the 'Y'
TK takes Carlos to the N.A. meeting – but when things don’t go as hoped, he instigates another method to get Carlos talking.
Chapter 3: Snowballing
A messy situation in 2010 causes TK as a high school junior to lash out. In 2023, Carlos realizes it's time to tell TK about one more secret.
Chapter 4: Original Sin
In 2013, Carlos accidentally destroys Gabriel’s oldest friendship. Nine years later, he attempts to make peace after he and TK get engaged.
Chapter 5: Between Two Bridges
In 2022, a grieving and struggling TK is compelled to talk to Owen about his 2020 overdose, which leads him to remember when his addiction nearly killed him years before. In 2023, TK asks Carlos about his history with alcohol. (Note: Chapter features TK using and gets fairly graphic)
Chapter 6: One Tequila, Two Tequila, Three Tequila, Floor
TK and Carlos compare notes on when they first came out – with Carlos spiraling in 2011 after an unexpected outburst, while TK in 2008 is embraced (and embarrassed) by his parents. In 2021, both handle the raw days of their breakup differently too.
Chapter 7: A Boy's Best Friend
In 2009, Gabriel attempts to connect with his increasingly distant and unhappy teenage son. In 2013, the fallout of Carlos leaving Iris has begun, and he knows his relationship with his parents will never be the same. In 2023, TK tries to talk to Gabriel about the bombshell revelation that Carlos doesn’t want kids.
Chapter 8: Your Heart, As If It Was My Very Own
In 2011, TK is left bewildered after he loses his virginity. Years later, with Carlos, TK's mind (among other things) is blown in a whole new way. In 2022, TK has an important conversation with a certain visitor when he wakes from his coma.
Chapter 9: Coffee with Gutiérrez
In September 2023, Carlos seeks an important but painful truth from Gutiérrez, and finds an unexpected ally within the 126. Two months later in Blue Moon Diner, TK gets ready to tell Carlos more about his past in New York.
Chapter 10: The Day Begins Like Any Other
In 2016, after TK experiences an assault and sees an old friend again under devastating circumstances, he makes a life-altering decision when his dealer suggests he try something new. In 2009, TK is attacked at school. (Note: Please heed the tags and the chapter note. Reader discretion advised. Look after your hearts).
Chapter 11: Lonely as a Sparrow in the Rain
When Carlos confesses to TK about where he went with Judd back in September – and why – TK has to tell Carlos something he won't want to hear. In 2014, a rift develops when Carlos shows off his new Camaro to his parents.
Chapter 12: Happy For You, Son
Before moving to Austin, TK falls out with his parents over his relationship with Alex. In December 2020, it's a different story as Carlos hosts Owen and Gwyn for TK's birthday meal. In 2012, Carlos has some unexpected news for his own parents, but Michelle tries to intervene. When TK and Carlos get engaged a decade later, Gabriel has something to say about it.
Chapter 13: The Risk of Love
In May 2023, Owen and TK save a spiraling Carlos from making the biggest mistake of his life when he thinks he’s found his father’s killer. In 2020, TK and Carlos become boyfriends beneath a sky full of aurora borealis.
Chapter 14: A Night Worth Celebrating
On a rainy night in 2020, TK and Carlos meet for the first time. In 2023, weeks after their big talk at Blue Moon, TK celebrates his thirtieth birthday with his husband, their family and their friends by his side – and Carlos is a little bit better at sharing his secrets.

OFF LIMITS
Part 4: “Busted”Pairing: Jungkook × Reader (Y/N)Genre: Angst | Smut | Brother’s Best Friend | Forbidden Romance | Secrets RevealedRating: 🔞 18+ (Mature Content)
It was supposed to be one of your quiet nights in.
Just you and Jungkook. Takeout. A horror movie neither of you paid attention to. His hand under the blanket, tracing lazy circles up your thigh. Your lips pressed to his neck as he muttered things that made your stomach clench.
By now, sneaking around felt like a second nature. The thrill of knowing you shouldn't be doing this making every moment even hotter.
But tonight?
You let your guard down.
You were so wrapped up in him—straddling his lap on the couch, shirt half-off, his fingers teasing the waistband of your shorts—that you didn't hear the front door open.
Didn't hear the footsteps.
Didn't hear your brother say your name
Until it was too late.
"What the fuck is going on?"
You froze.
Your entire body went cold as you whipped your head toward the living room entrance—where your brother stood, staring at the two of you like he was witnessing a murder scene. Jaw clenched. Eyes wide.
Jungkook was still holding you.
You scrambled off his lap, yanking your shirt down, but the damage was done.
Your brother's eyes locked on Jungkook. "You—you're supposed to be my best friend."
"Let me explain—" Jungkook started, standing.
"Explain what?" he snapped. "How long has this been going on?"
You opened your mouth, but nothing came out.
Jungkook stepped forward, calm but firm. "It's not what you think. I didn't plan this. I didn't go behind your back to hurt you."
"That's rich," your brother said bitterly, turning to you now. "And you—you let him touch you like that under my roof?"
"Don't talk to her like that," Jungkook said sharply, stepping between you.
That broke something in your brother's face.
"Oh, so now you're her boyfriend? Since when?"
You whispered, "Since a while ago."
Silence.
Jungkook exhaled. "I love her, man."
That made your brother laugh. A short, humorless sound.
"Love?" he repeated. "No. No way. You don't get to say that. You think just because you throw the L word around it makes this okay?"
"I never meant to hide it forever," Jungkook said. "We were just trying to figure it out first before dragging you into it."
Your brother shook his head. "Get out."
"Let's just talk—" you tried.
"No," he snapped. "I don't wanna see either of you right now. Jungkook—get out of my fucking house!"
Jungkook turned to you, eyes asking silently what do you want me to do?
You swallowed hard, heart pounding.
"I'll go too," you said softly.
Your brother looked betrayed. "You're choosing him over me?"
"I'm not choosing anything," you said, tears in your eyes. "I just... I need space. You're mad, and I get it. But this isn't just a fling." You said clinging on to jungkook's arm
Your brother didn't respond.
Just stared at the two of you, shaking his head like he couldn't believe this was happening.
______________________________________________________________
That night, you crashed at Jungkook's apartment.
Neither of you said much at first. You just sat on the edge of his bed, numb and quiet, as the weight of it all sank in.
Finally, Jungkook whispered, "I'm sorry."
You leaned into him. "Me too."
But under it all—beneath the guilt and the fallout—you still felt it. That pull. That ache. That raw, burning truth:
You'd still choose him.Every. Time.
To Be Continued...
Happy easter to everyone who celebrates. This one was kInda rushed but hope you enjoyed it.

I find it hard to say bye bye
(George Daniel + stepdaughter!r + Charli)
warnings: parents fighting, mentions of absent parent, crying, reader is young, not teen reader, SAD GUYS ITS SAD BUT ITLL BE OKAY
a/n: thx anon for requesting! I really like this one!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The fight started late in the evening, when you were supposed to be in bed. You weren’t, of course. You were sitting cross-legged on the floor, coloring in one of your favorite books by the soft glow of your bedside lamp. The quiet hum of the house made you feel safe, a kind of calm you didn’t question. Until it was gone.
It started as muffled voices drifting up from downstairs—George’s steady and low, your mom’s sharper and insistent. You paused, the crayon still in your hand, as you strained to hear. The words were too faint at first, just a cadence of frustration. Then Charli’s voice cut through, louder, carrying an edge that made your stomach twist.
“You’re leaving again, George. You’re gone while I’m here trying to hold everything together!”
“Charli, don’t do this,” George replied, his voice tight, but softer. “We talked about this already.”
“No, you talked, George. You decided. And now I’m the one stuck explaining to her why you’re gone all the time!”
You froze, your coloring book abandoned as the argument grew louder.
“It’s not like I want to leave!” George snapped. “You think this is easy for me? I hate being away just as much as you do!”
“Then don’t go,” Charli shot back. “If you hate it so much, stay! Stay here and help me! Because I can’t keep doing this alone, George. I can’t!”
Your chest tightened as their voices climbed, crashing against each other like a storm. You climbed into bed, pulling the blanket over your head, but it didn’t drown out the sound.
“I’m not leaving you alone!” George’s frustration was evident now, sharp and cutting. “I call every day, Charli. I FaceTime her. I make the effort! Do you think I don’t care? That I don’t feel guilty every single time I get on that plane?”
“But you still leave,” Charli fired back. “And you don’t have to deal with the fallout, George. I do. I’m the one holding her while she cries. I’m the one answering her questions when she asks why you’re not here. I’m the one trying to keep her from thinking it’s her fault!”
“That’s not fair,” George said, his voice quieter but no less tense. “I’m doing the best I can, Charli.”
“Well, it’s not enough!”
A heavy silence followed, broken only by George’s sigh.
“And what about you? Huh?” he said finally, his tone colder now. “You’re going on tour soon, aren’t you? So what’s your plan, Charli? Who’s going to pick up the pieces then?”
“That’s not the same!” Charli’s voice cracked. “When I leave, I’m not running away from this family—I’m contributing to it!”
“And you think I’m not?” George’s voice rose again. “I’m out there working my ass off for both of you! Don’t pin this all on me just because you’re overwhelmed!”
The tension in his words hung heavy in the air, and for a moment, there was only silence. Then Charli spoke, her voice low but trembling with anger.
“I’m overwhelmed because you’re not here, George. I’m overwhelmed because I feel like I’m raising her alone again, even when you’re home. And I’m scared, okay? I’m scared that one day you’re not going to come back.”
Something slammed downstairs—maybe the counter, maybe a door. You flinched, tears burning your eyes as the fight reached its breaking point.
“You don’t get to say that to me,” George replied, his voice sharp but quieter, almost trembling now. “You don’t get to accuse me of abandoning her when I’ve done everything I possibly can to be here for both of you. For her. I could’ve done nothing when it came to that little girl. I could’ve quietly thrown her to the side just like every single other douchebag who came into her life before they left,” Your mom’s jaw visibly clenched at his words. “But I didn’t. I’ve loved her with every ounce of my soul and treated her like she was mine every day for the past almost 4 years. So, don’t you dare say that to me.”
The door slammed, and your heart clenched painfully at the sound. You stayed frozen under your blanket, listening as the silence settled heavily over the house. You heard your mom’s footsteps, deliberate and heavy, moving around the kitchen. But George’s voice was gone.
He had left.
The door clicked softly as George entered, shoulders slumped with the weight of the evening of the next day. Charli looked up from the armchair, her face lined with worry, but her relief at seeing him was evident.
“Hi,” he said quietly, stepping closer.
“Hi,” she replied, her voice soft.
There was a beat of silence as they stood there, the tension between them thawing slightly. George opened his arms hesitantly, and Charli moved into them without hesitation.
“I missed you,” he murmured into her hair.
“I missed you most,” she said, her voice muffled against his chest. It had only been a day, less than 24 hours. Yet, it felt like years for the both of them.
George exhaled deeply, pulling back just enough to see her face. “Where’s Y/n?” he asked, his brow furrowing as if already bracing for bad news.
Charli hesitated, glancing toward the stairs. “She’s, um…”
“She’s what?” he pressed, his voice rising slightly in alarm.
Charli sighed, running a hand through her hair. “She got really upset after you left.”
“What?” George’s eyes widened, and his hands clenched at his sides. “She got upset? Why?”
She hesitated again, choosing her words carefully. “I think it… triggered something.”
“Triggered?” His voice was sharp now, his anxiety bubbling to the surface.
“She got really sad,” Your mom explained. “Just kept crying and crying. And when I told her you were on your way back, she got really angry.”
George blinked, trying to piece it together. “Angry? At me?”
Charli nodded, her expression apologetic. “I think so. She said some things, but I couldn’t quite get through to her.”
“Where is she?” His voice was urgent now, his entire focus shifting to you.
“Her room,” Charli said, her voice dropping slightly. “I told her you were almost home, but she wouldn’t come out.”
George was already moving toward the stairs when your mom called softly after him.
He walked down the hall to your room, hesitating. Charli stood away, leaning on the wall with her arms crossed, waiting.
The soft knock on your bedroom door barely registered over the sound of your sniffles. You pulled the blanket tighter around yourself, burying your face further into the pillow.
“Baby?” George’s familiar voice called gently. “It’s Georgie. Can I come in?”
“No.” Your voice was small but firm, muffled by the pillow.
“Why not?” he asked, his tone laced with both concern and patience.
“I don’t want to talk to you,” you replied, trying to sound resolute, but your voice wavered.
There was a pause before he tried again. “Please? I missed you last night.”
You didn’t answer.
“Y/N, come on, let me in,” he said, his voice softening further.
Behind the door, Charli’s voice chimed in, calm yet reassuring. “Let him in, baby.”
You hesitated before finally slipping out of bed and dragging your feet to the door. Opening it just wide enough to let him in, you didn’t look at him, immediately retreating to your bed.
“Thank you, my love,” George murmured before stepping inside. He closed the door behind him and turned his attention to you, curled up with your back to him.
He crossed the room and sat carefully on the edge of your bed. “What did you do today?” he asked lightly.
You shrugged without turning to face him.
“Nothing?” he pressed gently.
You shook your head, still refusing to meet his gaze.
George hummed softly, a quiet sound of acknowledgment. He let the silence stretch for a moment before speaking again, his voice laced with regret. “I’m sorry I scared you, Y/n.”
You froze at his words, your hands clutching the blanket tightly.
“Sit up for me, hm?” he coaxed, his tone tender but insistent.
Reluctantly, you pushed yourself up, still not looking at him.
He let the silence drag on for just a moment as you adjusted yourself. Your eyes casted down Still. “Why did you get scared?” he asked, his voice dropping even softer. “Can you tell me?”
You hesitated, your lip quivering as you fought the tears threatening to spill.
George waited, giving you the space you needed. When you finally spoke, your voice cracked. “I thought you weren’t gonna come back.”
The words tumbled out in a sob, your small frame shaking as the tears fell freely.
George’s heart twisted at the sight of you. “Oh, honey,” he said, moving closer. “Of course I was gonna come back.”
You cried harder, and George reached out to pull you into his arms.
“What have I always said to you and Momma?” he asked, his voice steady and reassuring as he rocked you gently.
“That you love us more than anything or anyone,” you mumbled through your tears.
“And what have I said about my love for you?”
You sniffled, hesitating before whispering, “…That…you love me like I was your own.”
“That’s right,” he said firmly. “I’m not going anywhere, Y/N. I’m sorry I scared you. I should’ve known better. But you’re stuck with me, baby. I don’t know what else to tell you.”
He held you close for a moment longer before shifting you onto his lap, your head resting on his shoulder. He wiped the tears from your cheeks and gently pushed a few stray strands of hair out of your face.
“Do you forgive me?” he asked softly.
You nodded, still avoiding his eyes.
“Look at me,” he said gently but firmly.
You hesitated, then finally lifted your gaze to meet his.
“I love you,” he said, his voice steady and full of warmth.
“I love you too,” you replied, your voice small but sincere.
George smiled, pressing a kiss to the top of your head. “That’s my girl,” he murmured, holding you close as the weight of the moment slowly lifted.

Why am I obsessed with the rift?
Tumblr media
From my first fic to the many many many many season 5 fics I've written, to the fic where the whole thing could've been averted in season 2, to my no-villain-era-for-Lena in season 3 (twice) and season 4 fics......... I seem to have developed a bit of a rift pattern.
A reasonable person might ask: Why?
There's something that itches in my mind: I think either woman would've been fully justified in walking away from their friendship, and yet they ultimately didn't.
Tumblr media
It starts with Kara, who is ultimately a fractured person. She deeply values the truth, and yet she's forced to live with various lies, unable to be her full self.
Her identity is in the in-betweens. She feels adrift between two cultures, she knows her alien state while reaping the privilege of passing, she hides core aspects of herself on a daily basis. I'm sucked into the rift, in part, because of who she is and how she struggles to put it all together. I think her frustration will resonate with anyone who's stuck in the in-betweens.
Kara's struggle for identity plants the seed for the rift. The bigotry of society meant she had to have a secret identity in the first place, and keeping the secret from Lena was certainly reasonable for a time.
We can debate endlessly about when Kara should've told Lena - I think it's really hard to find the line between "too soon" and "too late" - but it ultimately doesn't matter. Because it's Kara's kneejerk reaction to Lena's kryptonite that forms the first sort of betrayal, not the secret itself.
Kara screws up - she says something she regrets, she doubles down when threatened and scared. These are common mistakes... but we have super-level circumstances, so we get super-level consequences. And the engine she has inside her that fears loss (which she's suffered to a level that is unimaginable to anyone on Earth) kicks in. She can't lose another person she loves.
But who is she holding onto?
Tumblr media
In the series, and in flashbacks, we watch Lena's progression from idealistic techie to cynical recluse. While she's experienced loss and isolation, that's not the cause of her shift.
It's in experiencing her idol and protector become the madman who kidnaps her. It's in realizing her best friend has betrayed her by taking the one thing that could've saved her brother. It's in moving to a new city to start over, and meeting a mentor who uses her to start a global invasion. It's in her partner in scientific discovery being a pawn to her brother, colluding behind her back.
And then there's the final downfall. Her new best friend - her trusted confidant, her hero, the one who made her feel not so alone anymore - is the super who denigrated her, maligned her, spied on her. Lena had two important people in her life at that point, and she sacrificed one for the other... only to find out the other was a lie.
With betrayal after betrayal - Lex and Andrea and Rhea and Eve and Kara - she loses faith that anyone is above their worst impulses.
So she falls to her own.
Tumblr media
How can good people do bad things?
There's a saying I heard around MIT sometimes: there are no technical solutions to social problems. It's easy to forget - when you're surrounded by people seeking to improve the world via science and engineering - that you can't solve humanity via technology or logic or rules. Lena forgot this.
Myriad marks a shift in the rift. Kara lied to Lena, antagonized her, spied on her - but her wrongs were directed towards Lena. Lena's initial response - the petty manipulation and the plan to out Kara - were directed back at Kara.
But then the rift fundamentally shifts.
At this point, Lena's wrongs are no longer just about Kara - she's trying to brainwash the world. She mindcontrolled Malefic and enslaved Eve. This went beyond the fallout between two friends.
It's clear that her intentions are still good here. She's not a megalomaniac like her brother, she's not forming an us-vs-them mentality like her stepmother. She's an anti-villain at this point in the story - desperate to find what's true, in a world full of lies.
It's a hard line to walk, acknowledging Lena's trauma and well-intentioned motivations while realizing she's still ultimately culpable for her own actions. But it's important to try to balance, because Lena is still redeemable.
But getting back to the relationship itself - Kara played a large role in pushing Lena to the edge of her trauma, which was entirely motivated by Kara's own trauma.
You hide things so you don’t lose people. I run from people who hide things. I guess we were bound to explode.
Lena says this in my first fic mentioned earlier, and it summarizes the rift as succinctly as I can put it. Their traumas were incompatible, and their relationship should've failed.
And yet.
Tumblr media
Delving into how the CW screwed up the rift could be its own essay. They gave us a complex and layered situation, only to gut it with It's a Super Life (beloved/beloathed), the narrative retroactively justifying Kara instead of examining her foils, glossing over Lena instead of delving into her ethical blindspots. The rift was cancelled.
What does that leave us with?
Well, I guess it left me seeking the rift, over and over again. I'm certainly not the first author to do a rift fic, and I doubt I'll be the last. There seem to be a few different approaches:
Some authors delve into the nuance, having the two characters hash out what they've been through in a way that feels balanced and real. In particular, I love the @searidings fic with the birds i'll share this lonely view. I don't think I have the skill to pull off that type of story.
Some writers lean heavily on one "side" or the other, often with lots of grovelling. This never resonates with me, because at some point in a relationship there has to be the realization that it's "us vs. the problem", rather than "you vs. me". In my mind, these fics miss the layers of trauma that led to the rift.
Some authors make the rift not matter. If you put the characters through hell and back, the anger will lose its thrust, and they'll be left wanting to heal.
I fall into the last category.
There's a moment from permanence by @itllsetyoufree that I especially love, where - in the aftermath of season 6 - Eliza asks Lena why she forgave Kara. Lena can't answer.
We like to think we're logically driven. But in my experience, forgiveness - and a host of other emotions - never work that way. Sometimes "sorry" cuts it, sometimes it doesn't. A lot of times, forgiveness comes from the realization that someone genuinely wants to connect, and that the fallout was relatively unimportant in the grand scheme of things.
Of course, when your fallout includes extra levels of gaslighting and a bit of global brainwashing, making it relatively unimportant requires something drastic.
Tumblr media
That's where I end up landing. Putting my blorbos in Situations helps them see the other in a new light - see the other's genuineness, the other's fears, the other's love. Often times, this comes with the simultaneous threat to someone's life (though that's not necessary, especially if it's earlier in Lena's breaking point cutoff).
I do assume - and sometimes imply - that they're also having those discussions, working things out in the background. Because of what I put them through in my fics, I don't think those end up being explosive discussions. It's about figuring out the practical aftermath of what the heart already knows at that point.
Whether I deliver on that is ultimately up to the reader, but that's my approach. Because at the end of the day, love is about cherishing and understanding the person in front of you - flaws and and traumas in all. These stories are driven by loving both characters, and trying to see them the way they see each other.
The rift is a story about love and connection - how those things can't happen without embracing someone else's trauma and without understanding one's own imperfection. Because that's what's at the root of all of us.
And that's why I write the rift.

MacCready Fanfiction Recs (Fallout 4)
hey everybody, nobody asked for this but in the midst of writing fallout fanfic I was feeling a special kind of love for my favorite fo4 fanfics and wanted to recommend them in case you hadn't read 'em. Because they are VERY GOOD and writing fanfic is hard, so you gotta give props to those who sweat for your comfort fics.
I'm gonna recommend my top three finished fanfics, and then two more bonus fics that are being updated rn. As a clarifier, these are all Maccready fallout 4 fics. so. keep that in mind.
im tagging the authors and also anybody who wants to join and share their favorites too!
3. THE FATHER(S) AND THE SON(S) on ao3 by @sirmanmister
I'm going to preface this rec by saying this: there is Fanon MacCready. There is canon MacCready. And then there is ascended!whatBethesdawishesitWAS MacCready, which exists solely in this fanfiction. The characterization of Mac is so well written. He is snarky, he is vulnerable. He desperately wants to grow up but doesn't know how. He has the most sick character arc in this story!!!
It's not a romance but instead a coming of age story where the sole survivor becomes a de-facto parent to Mac. The heart of the story is about how to raise a child while you're still trying to grow up yourself. The apocalypse setting lends itself well because the Wasteland is a place where NOTHING is beautiful, but the way that M!Sosu and MacCready care for their sons is beautiful. Which makes it special and worth fighting for.
As a fun fact, I read The Road by Cormac McCarthy for class a week after finishing this fic and I was thinking about this fic the whole time because the themes of fatherhood during an apocalypse hit a lot of the same beats. Maybe my professor would kick me in the teeth by comparing fic to McCarthy, but @sirmanmister YOU ARE MY CORMAC MCCARTHY <3
2. WORKING CLASS HERO on ao3 by @bluegrasskitty
This is the kind of fic you take with you to toilet, to work, in-between classes. It will suck you in. AND THERE'S A SEQUEL TOO YOU GUYS‼️
The sole survivor in this story is the model for the Nuka Cola girl. You know the hot lady in the spacesuit? SHE HAS A BACKSTORY. AND YALL IT MADE ME WEEP. During some point of the story, I sort of stopped rooting for MacCready to be the narrator and just wanted Nora Cabot to take the reins. When I tell you I think of this oc every two to three business weeks. She's an incredible leading lady. I can't look at Nuka Girl posters in the game without thinking of Nora Cabot, my beloved.
the sequel IS SO FIRE. It's the best reimagining of 'what happened after the institute blew up' that I've ever read. im gnawing at the bars of my enclosure actually.
A VERY GOOD PLOT TWIST I CANNOT MENTION TO NEW READERS BUT IF YOU'VE READ IT YOU'LL UNDERSTAND. AND IF YOU UNDERSTAND DM ME I HAVE TO TALK TO SOMEBODY ABOUT IT. HHh.
The amount of world building that @bluegrasskitty puts into this story is insane. They ARE Beth Esda.
As a fun fact, I didn't know that radchickens were canon in fallout. I thought it was a plot device made up by this author to excuse the ability to make cake in this book, but radchickens ARE real. When I was playing Far Harbor last year, I found radchickens and thought that @bluegrasskitty manifested them into existence because they had that kind of power.
that being said, I still think this author has that kind of power.
1. Atom Bomb Baby on ao3 by @starlightwrites
I think you dropped something....my jaw.
fellas. fellas. this is my comfort fic. You ever had a comfort fic? Something you come back to at least once a year to reread to feel something? the fiction equivalent of chicken noodle soup? this is what Atom Bomb Baby is to me. this is peak literature actually. if I ever figure out book binding, im doing this one first.
Plot wise, it's a retelling of Fallout 4's main story through the perspective of MacCready. But (and im wheezing as I say this) it's also so much more THAN THAT.
this fic author understands that MacCready is not a womanizer but is in fact a touch starved loser. and they are CORRECT.
MacCready spends the entire fic like 'uuuhhhh I dunno about this one, boss!'
ITS BEST FRIENDS TO LOVERS RAHHHHHH
it also has a nostalgia feel to me too, because reading it gives me the same feeling as what it was like to play the game for the first time, years ago. maybe it's because I've read it so many times over the years, but reading it feels so satisfying.
The author spends 10 chapters at the end solely dedicated to an epilogue. I wish more stories did this. They go through the wringer in this story, and it's so deeply satisfying to see how cleanly everything gets wrapped up. MacCready and the Lola work really well together as a couple, so it's awesome to see how they work together after the battle is done.
6 out of 5 stars.
BONUS FICS !! aka fics that are still updating! I squeal with joy when I get an ao3 email about these: 1. Best Laid Plans on ao3 by @druidgroves - Georgia Tate is an incredible character and sole survivor! She was a teacher prewar, so it's really fun to get her perspective on the world. She cares a lot about education and libraries and I find her really relatable and endearing. It's a cool thing for a character in an apocalypse to care about! It also makes for fun tension with Mac, who's written as a pragmatic survivor. A great take on familiar characters and their dynamics. - And It's a great slow burn! I'm really enjoying reading it. 2. Long Time Running on ao3 by @twosides--samecoin - If you've ever thought that Med-Tek was too convenient an option for Duncan's cure, this fic was written with you in mind. - RJ goes to Canada and im obsessed with it. - If you're interested in fallout lore, specifically the bit where the U.S annexed Canada and wished that there was more info about that, I would highly recommend this fic. Twosides--samecoin put in THE WORK. The world building they do to explain Canada's side of the Great War is so fun!!! its genuinely such a thrill to read!
I'm tagging the authors who I mentioned, if you all have favorite fics (fallout or otherwise, I'd love to hear em!) Thank you for making good art!

Would you mind ranking the mission impossible movies from best to worst?
OKOKOK FIRST OF ALL THANK YOU FOR ASKING I LOVE TO RANT ABT MISSION IMPOSSIBLE!!!
now ik you said best to worst but imma go from worst to best cause i think thats more dramatique
OK MY MISSION IMOPSSIBLE 1-7 RANKING:
7. mission: impossible 2 low hanging fruit i know. look i dont dislike this movie - im a diehard m:i fan, so i like all of them. this movie has its moments, n i rlly like john woo as a director, n i loved the rock climbing scene n knife stunt. the romance rlly brings it down for me tho, felt very shoehorned in there.
6. mission: impossible 3 here bc its better than 2 but not as good as 1. loved that it introduced my goats julia n benji, n i loved the building jump n the running scene. rlly solid movie, only this low bc i like the others more.
5. mission: impossible ik its pretty criminal to have the original at number FIVE, but the next four are just so goated. now obviously this movie is great, its the og. but tbh it doesnt stand out to me as much as the others do, doesnt have as much of a huge action setpiece that we've come to love. plus, modern day tom cruise wouldve done that helicopter in the tunnel bit for real.
now i call this next category the FOUR MOVIE PERFECTION RUN,,, bc thats what it is. every one of these next four are absolutely perfect in my eyes, n i could see any of them being someones number one
4. mission: impossible - ghost protocol perfect. down to the last minute detail. i,,, i mean where do i begin. THE burj khalifa stunt. adding benji to the team permanently. paula patton beating ass. the dude from lost dying like five minutes in. tying up the loose end that is ethan n julia. n ik this is niche but the lil outfit change ethan does when hes leaving the kremlin gets me every time. gosh theres just,,, SO much to love abt this movie idk what more i can say. this one was my mission impossible gateway drug.
3. mission: impossible - dead reckoning ok hear me out HEAR ME OUT. before you get mad. OBJECTIVELY SPEAKING, this is the best one. this is THE best one. but this is my personal ranking. the reason i put rogue nation n fallout over this MASTERPIECE is purely bc of,,, The Thing. yknow. the thing that happens to that one character. that one very beloved character. if youve seen the movie you know what i mean. but if youre not a mission fan, n youre not emotionally attached to these characters like i am, this is the best one. unfortunately, i am very emotionally attached to ethan n his pals.
2. mission: impossible - fallout now,,, what can i say abt fallout that hasnt already been said. its perfection. perfect, down to the last minute detail. the STUNTS. the continuity from rogue nation. introducing alanna n having her stab a man while wearing this GORGEOUS white two piece that i still think abt to this day. bringing back solomon lanes bitch ass. bringing back ILSA who is literally my number one my goat my everything. n tell me how every action setpiece n fight is imbedded with fucking CRACK. the club bathroom fight, the HALO jump, ilsa n benji duking it out w lane in that little shack, ethan n walker duking it out on a cliff, THE WHOLE ASS HELICOPTER SEQUENCE where tom cruise just casually flew a helicopter as one does. n OHMYGOSH THE RUNNING. im a simple man ok i could literally watch nine hours of simon pegg telling tom cruise where to run. oh also the fucking fake out in the beginning w the fucking hospital room n benji impersonating that cnn fellow is literally the most impressive thing in the series to me. i was FLABBERGASTED. ok i know im just rambling n listing things but this movie is just,,, so, so good
1 mission impossible - rogue nation see. im aware that fallout n dead reckoning are objectively better than rogue nation. however,,, nostalgias one HELLUVA drug. this movie came out when my family was moving n i was SUPER emo abt it. but i had been looking forward to this movie for like years at that point n even tho i was going through a tough time i was SO stoked to see rogue nation. n rlly i feel like its the perfect mission impossible movie. luthers back after being absent in ghost protocol. tom cruise holding his breath for six fucking minutes as one does. benji is the damsel in distress. n how could i forget the fact that this movie introduces THE BEST CHARACTER IN THE SERIES??? ilsa my GOAT. notice how the three movies shes in are the top three,,, yeah shes the best written character in the series not to mention shes uh just rlly cool n yeah. this blog proudly promotes ilsa faust supremacy.
