~ Please read our extensive event info posts before sending us an ask ~

WHUMPTOBER is a month-long, prompt-based creation challenge (think: Inktober, but whumpier). There are 31 official themes this year - one for each day of the month - which can be used, skipped, or combined in any way you’d like. The 'theme' of each day is the line of lyrics.

The prompts are merely to serve as inspiration without being taken literally (e.g. you don’t have to include the exact wording of prompts into your work). Feel free to run rampant on interpretation. For example, if the prompt is "flame", you could create something with reference to a candle/campfire, your character could have suffered a burn, or the flame could be related to the 'spark' of a relationship. It's truly up to you!

In total, there are 4 prompts for each day: there's lyrics, an object, a trope and a line of dialogue to choose from.  We want to give everyone as much creative freedom as possible, as well as increase event accessibility for folks with triggers and squicks.

Creators can PRODUCE work in any media they choose, including but not limited to: writing, visual artwork, photo/video/audio edits, paper crafts and elaborate recommendation lists (not just a list of links). Creators can PARTICIPATE as much or as little as they want (i.e. you don’t have to do ALL the prompts if you don’t want to) and prompts can be used in any order. They are also free to use even after the event ends.

When uploading Whumptober content to your blog, be sure to tag the with:

Unfortunately, due to the sheer number of participants in recent years, we cannot guarantee your work will be archived. A random selection of properly tagged posts from all genres will be reblogged each day.

Whumpers who produce content for 31 total theme days are considered event completionists and will be tagged in a masterpost at the end of the month. A form will be published at the beginning of November asking you to tell us if you completed the event. You do not need to post anything you have created, we rely on trust and we will not check this.

Questions not addressed in one of our many event info posts can be directed to this blog. We will not answer any questions that have been answered in the FAQs or rules already.

When in doubt: JUST DO IT!

Q. Do I have to do all 31 days?

Participate as much or little as you like! Just be sure to tag your posts properly (ex. #no.7, #radio silence). If you create works for 31 total theme days you will become a completionist. But apart from that, there are no repercussions if you don’t fill prompts for each day.

Q. Can I post early/late?

Yes, you can post whenever you want. We will only reblog posts during October, but you can use our prompts all year round. The day you post will only affect your probability of being reblogged.

Q. Will you reblog my post?

Due to the sheer number of content posted during Whumptober we can’t promise to reblog every single post. We will make a random selection trying to capture a wide variety of content. The following will increase your chances at being reblogged:

tag your post properly

post within 2-3 days of the theme you want to fill: if you fill the prompt for Day 1 your chances of being reblogged during October 1st to 3rd are highest and will go towards zero afterwards.

Q. What if I don’t understand a prompt/theme?

Send us an ask! We’re happy to help with wild, unhelpful clarifications or brainstorming. That being said, the themes are entirely up for interpretation. Don’t take them too literally. For example: You can be choking on a cherry, someone else can choke you or you could be choked up on emotions, etc.

Q. What kind of content can I make? Can it be NSFW?

This is a MIXED MEDIA event! You can write fic, post meta, doodle or paint, create a gifset or photo edit, link a song, or get crafty with video - anything goes. As for NSFW, make what you like, we just hope that you’ll tag your work accordingly so that others participating in the event can stay safe.

Q. Can I combine Whumptober with other creation challenges?

Absolutely, as long as the other challenges allow it too.

Q. Can I upload/repost my Whumptober content to other social media platforms?

Of course! You can post your own content wherever you like (or you can opt to not publish it at all). Additionally we’ve created an AO3 Collection to archive any fics posted there. It can be accessed here. The tumblr blog @whumptober-archive is the official archive, so please respect the boundaries of any closeted whumpers in your social circle.

Q. Can I use prompts to write a new chapter for an existing fic?

Yes.

Q. An existing fic I am currently writing contains many of the Whumptober prompts, can I use it?

If you are actively writing this fic at the moment with the Whumptober prompts in mind, yes. If you’ve previously posted something that checks the boxes, we ask that you not include it retroactively for this current year. You can, however, add new chapters relating to one or more of the prompts.

Q. What kind of characters can I write for?

Fandom characters, OC characters, human, furry, alien, cyborg, RPF, whoever you like. You can use the generic “whumpee” character or have specific ones.

Q. Does it have to take place in a specific fandom?

No, you can create works for your own worlds or for fandoms or for both. You can also create more generic or pan-fandom works. You can do cross-overs or use OCs, whatever you want.

Q. Can I use a prompt multiple times?

Yes, but it only counts once towards being a completionist.

Q. If I’m not comfortable with one day’s prompts can I use a prompt of a different day as a substitute and still be a completionist?

No, you can’t exchange prompts for different days. However, if all four prompts of a specific day make you uncomfortable, we have created an alternate prompts list that you can draw from. You can exchange any prompt with these, but please make sure not to use them twice.

Q. Where can I post my work?

Post where and how you want. You don’t have to (cross)post it to Tumblr or at all. Just keep in mind if it’s not on Tumblr we will not be able to add it to the blog archive.

Q. Can I start posting early?

You can, but this is an October event and wouldn’t it be more fun with everyone doing it at the same time? That being said, you can post early, but we won’t be reblogging any work predating October 1st.

Q. Do I have to finish a fic I started/can I post WIP’s?

Yes you can post WIPs. And you’re not obligated to finish it in October for it to count towards being a completionist.  

Q. Is co-writing allowed?

Yes, absolutely, and it would count towards being a completionist for both/all of you.

Q. Do I have to create 31 standalone pieces to be considered a completionist or can I write one continuous story?

One continuous story is fine.  The challenge is to write something for 31 prompts. If that’s spread over 31 fics or just one, you are still considered a completionist. (The same goes for every other media you choose.)

Q. Is there a min/max limit on word count?

There is no limit.

Q. Can I combine prompts? Is there a limit on how many?

No limit and combine as many as you’d like.

Q. Is a hc/angst/emotional whump focus ok?

Of course! We are not going to establish a threshold for whumpiness. If you think it’s whumpy enough, then it’s whumpy enough. It can be physical, psychological, emotional, or any combination of the three.

Q. What is whump?

Typically the genre includes situations where a fictional character is hurt, be it emotionally, psychologically, or physically. Fanlore provides information here.

Q. My interpretation of the prompt isn’t whumpy at all, does that count?

If you don’t think your interpretation is whumpy, then it doesn’t count for Whumptober. Remember that whump comes in many forms, though, and that we don’t have a whump-checker or a threshold for how much whump needs to be included. If you think your interpretation contains enough whump to count, then it does.

Q. Can I start working on the prompts before October?

Absolutely! That’s why we post the prompts a month in advance. We recognise how difficult it can be creating for 31 days in “real time” so feel free to start creating early!

Q. How do I tag triggers?

Q. Do I have to use your tags?

Yes, if you want your work archived on the blog. If not, feel free to use whatever tags you want. 

Q. Does combining prompts count towards completion?

Yes

Q. Is there anything we are absolutely not allowed to write?

Q. My characters are minors, is that ok?

Yes, but as with everything else, use clear and descriptive tags.

Q. Can I cross post on other blogs?

Yes, multiple platforms and blogs are perfectly acceptable. You can also post different works to different accounts under different names, without posting them everywhere at once.

days merged into one another because all I did was go to school and prep school, nothing more and nothing less.

I internally even sobbed, realising that I hadn’t read any of my books for the past six months.

we got our test scores back an hour ago, leaving the results of a bet looming over my head. a bet I made with hyunjin. a bet, whose loser had to kiss someone.

I bet that hyunjin would score higher than I would, and he bet the opposite. loser has to kiss anyone the winner picks.

except, we weren’t serious about the consequences because he had gotten out of a pretty serious relationship just a couple of months ago, and I was… well, I hadn’t had my first kiss yet.

instead of reminding each other of the bet, hyunjin and I were holding hands under the table—which we did quite often because he said my hands were cold and he was ‘warming them up’—when, one of the days preceding halloween, the topic of being a ‘bottom’ or a ‘top’ came up in the class.

I took it without a second thought, and we talked about everything that happened in our classes at school as we kept walking.

“let’s go,” he said, happy to convert me to his staircase-is-better-than-elevators agenda, pulling me up the stairs immediately.

trailing behind him, I asked, suddenly curious, “what led you to conclude the fact that i’d be a bottom?”

when we reached the third floor, he waited a beat before pulling me towards the wall. he pushed me against it gently, and slowly wrapped his fingers around my throat, towering over me and staring down into my eyes. I looked away to the side in embarrassment, as my cheeks flushed.

I pulled up the sleeve of my jacket and pushed my hand towards him, assuming he’d bite my hand like I did to him, and get it over with.

instead, he pulled me by my outstretched hand towards the wall again. his hands rested around my neck and tilted my face to my side. he gently nipped at my neck, and I laughed softly.

“tickles,” I mumbled.

he let go, and we walked up another floor to reach mine.

I quietly took small steps towards him, and his warm fingers found their home on my cheek, tilting my face away slowly. he bit down on my other side for a lot longer than the first time.

I was pressed in between the wall and his body. I plopped my head down onto his chest, trying to calm down my racing heart.

Amberly takes a sip from her pumpkin latte, keeping her face patient as her student rambles on about their summer vacation. She glances at the timer. Three more minutes and then this call can be over-

So I can do what? Go home and shut down?

Yeah, pretty much.

She pushes her hair back from her face. It’s still damp from her shower that morning, smelling faintly of lavender from the shampoo. Tiredness is seeping into her bones and filling her up like lead. 

I don’t know if I can do this anymore.

Her student finally tells her goodbye and Amberly clicks the end call button, leaning back in her chair and letting relief sweep over her in waves. She takes off her glasses to rub her eyes. Lately it seems like any sleep is not enough, no matter how early she goes to bed or keeps her eyes closed. 

Why am I even staying in this?

Her lips tighten. Breaking up had never been a possibility for them- seemed like one, at least. They’ve been dating since second year at Hogwarts. The thought of not being with Remus had simply never crossed her mind. He was hers, her person, who she’d thought cared about her and loved her beyond measure.

Now she’s not so sure. 

A hand slams down on the table in front of her and a yelp claws its way out of her throat as she recoils, jerking her coffee towards her and slopping it over her wrist. Amberly glares up at Sirius, her shock being replaced by annoyance. “Pads, you asshole”-

He grins at her. “Would you like some napkins? Sorry for the spill.”

She scowls. “Napkins and a signed apology, please.”

Sirius tosses his jacket over her head. “Any food?”

Amberly shoots him a death glare as she pulls the leather off her hair and throws it on the seat next to her. “I’m not hungry, thank you very much.”

Sirius’ eyes narrow. “You’re getting a sandwich.”

“I don’t want a sandwich.”

“I didn’t ask if you wanted one. I said you’re getting one.”

“I didn’t ask if I was getting one. I said I didn’t want one.”

Sirius rolls his eyes, turning on his heel and heading to the counter. “Yap, yap, yap. Too bad.”

“How are things?” asks Sirius a few minutes later, sitting across from Amberly in the booth. He runs a hand through his untidy black hair. “I bet you’re loving this cooler weather.”

Amberly nods. “I am, yeah. I can’t believe winter is coming.”

She wraps her jacket tighter around herself and Sirius narrows his eyes. He’s known Amberly for a long time now, a bit longer even than Remus has known her. And he can tell that she’s lying. 

Her eyes are dark and circled with shadows, and her skin looks paler than usual, even in the warm light of the cafe. She’s gotten thinner, too. Visibly thinner, enough for her cheekbones to be more prominent. 

Sirius pushes the sandwich at her. “Eat it.”

She scowls at him. “No.”

“Eat it or perish.”

“Perish.”

He unwraps it and shoves it into her hand, and she rolls her eyes before taking a tiny bite out of the corner. Inwardly, Sirius feels relief that she’s eating, but he knows damn well that there’s another reason she looks like she’s been awake for a century and a half.

“How’s Moony?”

The question seems to catch Amberly off guard, and she takes her time to chew and swallow before responding. “He’s okay. More used to the meds, now. I think the full moon isn’t quite as bad for him.”

Sirius tilts his head at her. “Is he? I tried calling a few days ago and he never picked up.”

“Oh.” Amberly picks at a thumbnail, not making eye contact. “He’s not the best with answering his phone and stuff”-

“Stuff it,” retorts Sirius. “This man used to stay up till two in the fucking morning so he could chit-chat with you. It won’t kill him to pick up the phone for his oldest friend”-

“He doesn’t really talk to me anymore,” mumbles Amberly. She half-hopes Sirius won’t hear it. Tears are swimming in her throat and she cannot, will not, let them out. That’s why Remus was mad at me. I was too much. I can’t do that again.

But Sirius’ sharp ears prick at the words. “What?”

She shrugs, setting down the sandwich and staring at her hands in her lap. She doesn’t trust herself to look up.

Sirius leans across the table to touch her hand. “Amberly, you know you can tell me anything, right? Are things okay with you and Moony?”

Amberly bites her lip. She can feel her eyes start to swim and swell with tears. “Things are fine.”

She can’t hide the wobble in her voice.

Sirius drapes her leather jacket over her shoulders and the tears come out, spotting her shirt all down her front and splashing onto the table. She’s shaking now, sobbing harder, and Sirius folds her in his arms and strokes her hair like a sister.

“He doesn’t want to talk to me anymore,” she gasps finally, smearing at her eyes and leaning back. “I was too much. He said I was too clingy. I don’t want to be that again, I can’t”-

Sirius’ hands tighten around hers. “What did he say to you exactly?”

Amberly’s eyes flicker. “He told me that he didn’t want me.” Another sob wells up in her throat as she remembers those words, hurled across space to shatter her like porcelain. “That I was too clingy.”

Sirius pulls her to her feet, jaw tight and eyes dangerously bright. “Come on.”

“Where are we going?” asks Amberly, trying to wipe her face and tie her hair back from where it’s sticking to the tears. “I need to pack”-

“I’m getting your stuff and then you’re coming with me to James and Lily’s. You’re not staying with Moony, staying in this state of things,” he seethes. “Not till Moony gets some sense in his head or I beat it into him.”

Amberly stumbles after him to the door.

“Can you drop me off here?” yells Amberly over the roar of the engine. 

Sirius looks back over his shoulder. They’re at the stop sign just down the street from her house, his long legs resting on the ground on either side of the motorcycle. “Why? I can take you all the way.”

She slides off the back before he can further protest. “If he’s asleep I don’t want the noise to wake him”-

He got so mad last time when Sirius drove me home. I can’t do that again. I’ll break, I know I will.

Sirius rolls his eyes as she hands him the helmet. “It won’t kill him, you know”-

Amberly shrugs, looking down. “I just don’t want there to be trouble.”

“Fine. But you better be back here in ten minutes or I’m gunning it for your driveway.”

She nods, continuing down the street to their house as Sirius pulls over to the curb.

There’s a hot, heavy pulse in her ears, and her hands feel like they’re tingling. He’ll be mad, I know he will. If he sees me…

All she can see, all she can think of, are memories of her and Remus.

The times they’d gone for night walks down this street, fingers interlocked through wooly mittens…the time they had been to the bakery and brought home fresh bread and hot chocolate…the way he’d picked her up and swung her around every time he came home…the warmth of his arms around her and his cheek on her hair…

Maybe that’s why she doesn’t hear the car coming. 

A screech of tires, a dull thud, and Amberly is on the ground. Her rich brown hair threads through the leaves in the gutter as red begins trickling over the dirt.

The driver’s face is white.

They swing the car into reverse, hands shaking, and peel away.

Amberly doesn’t move.

Two minutes later Sirius is kneeling next to her, fingers trembling as he babbles into the phone. 

“Nine-nine-nine, what’s your emergency?”

“It’s my friend. She’s dying...”

Happy New Year! I've been writing too many recaps lately so this will be brief. Anyway as usual, spoilers and opinions below, read at your own risk.

QL - Currently Watching

🇹🇭 Caged Again [8/10] - The most wonderful surprise. Junior is an incredible character. I'm hoping they finish this one strong. 🇹🇭 Fourever You [14/16] - I don't know why I'm still watching. I really don't. 🇯🇵Miseinen [9/10] - I think some of the changes they made from the source material really didn't help the story in the second half of the show. And this last episode just felt like they were more focused on continuing the visual metaphors than to actually move the story forward in a way that made sense. I'm kinda disappointed tbh.

🇹🇭 Perfect 10 Liners [11/24] - I really like YothaGun. Mostly because I really like Yotha, mostly because I really like Perth. But grumpy/sunshine pairings are a favourite of mine and they are really good in those particular boxes. I need to know what happened between Yotha and Wa, although I think he probably cheated on him which is why Yotha goes around breaking couples up.

🇹🇭 Sangmin Dinneaw [1/8] - Finally a collab where the language barrier is used for the story and for humor instead of whatever has been done till now. They cute. Really like the setting.

🇹🇼 See Your Love [11/13] - It's like watching two shows in one. On one side we have the most endearing couple. They are completely in love with each other and helping each other through their individual issues. And the other...I don't really know what's happening.

🇹🇭 The Heart Killers [6/12] - I'm still watching quietly.

🇹🇭 ThamePo [3/12] - They are so charming and earnest. And Est is too beautiful for this world. I'm really enjoying this one and I like the pacing so far.

🇹🇭 Your Sky [7/12] - They are very compelling to watch. So precious. But this last episode wasn't great. I hate what they are doing with Oh and really hope he just goes away. Great ensemble though.

QL - Finished

🇯🇵Love in the Air Koi - I appreciated the condensed stories, with less filler and the parallel kidnappings. And I preferred this version of the second couple.

🇯🇵 Love is a Poison - I adore them. Shiba is such a fascinating and original character. The actors did an incredible job, and I could watch them be battle husbands for 5 more seasons. Oh and the succulents. I will miss them most of all.

🇹🇭 My Stand-In - Final thoughts here.

🇹🇭 Spare Me Your Mercy - It's interesting in the context of euthanasia but not much else. The crime part of this was messy and the romance was practically not existent or otherwise not believable.

Thinking about the Blackthorn Siblings as one does

No but really

Just thinking about the Blackthorn sisters and how Helen is to Dru as Julian is to Tavvy.

Let me explain:

1) Same age difference (about 10 yrs between Julian+Tavvy, about 10 yrs between Helen+Dru)

2) Tavvy is Julian’s baby, just like I think Dru was Helens’. We know Helen was parentified at a young age as well. Dru was the baby of the family for almost 6 yrs till Tavvy was born. Of course for a while Eleanor was still alive, but being the oldest Helen still would’ve stepped up especially as Eleanor was getting sicker in the years before Tavvy was born and she died. (Although now that I’m thinking about it Mama Blackthorn couldn’t have been that sick if she was still able to have a full pregnancy with Tavvy right (?!)) (And who knows what Andrew was doing but not being a super present father and running the institute ig— tho his teen son was able to do both smh)

3) but anyways yes Helen and Dru. Helen was Dru’s go to for stories and comfort when she was little. Oftentimes little Dru wouldn’t be able to keep up when the twins + Jules+Emma went exploring, but she would stay back with Helen.

4) in addition Julian and Helen are both the main (or one of the main for helen’s case) parents in Tavvy + Dru’s lives during the same time in both their lives. Dru and Tavvy were both about 2-7/8 and Helen and Julian were both 12-17/18.

5) Which is what makes Helen’s exile and return and Dru’s reaction to it (though understandable) more tragic. Bc Dru was Helen’s baby, and at one point Helen was Dru’s main person. But now Helen is back, and while being Dru’s older sister/parent was such a big part of Helen’s identity for so long and she remembers it well, Dru’s memories of Helen are now more distant childhood memories :((

This parallels Julian + Tavvy’s relationship a bit as well (though they are not as extreme bc ofc Julian will check in often and come back to stay in LA a lot) but Julian will no longer be Tavvy’s main parent. And in time although being Tavvy’s parent was such a big part of Julian’s identity it will be more distant childhood memories for tavvy :((

6) the parallels!! Like how Dru is said to be the one who looks most like their mother but Dru barely knew her while Helen was the closest to their mom. (We learn most that we do about Eleanor from Helen’s pov) So Helen (+Emma) are the closest to maternal figures that Dru has ever gotten.

Similarly Julian is always compared to looking like Andrew, and he had to kill his own father (most of what we learn about Andrew as a parent is from Julian). But Tavvy doesn’t remember Andrew, and Julian is the best father figure he could have.

7. Finally, the way Julian + Helen switch off in their little siblings lives. Helen was one of Dru’s main parents till she was about 7/8, then Helen is exiled and Julian is Dru’s main parent from 8-13 (close to when Dru is ready to go to the academy). Where as Tavvy is the exact opposite since Julian was his main parent till he was about 7/8 and then Helen is taking over as Tavvy’s main parent from when Tavvy is 8 till presumably when he follows in Dru’s footsteps and goes to the Academy (15ish—till he’s sent back to LA bc of the pandemic lmao)

So Dru + Tavvy had the same parents just 6 yrs apart

The Blackthorn siblings as divided by who their parents were:

Helen + Mark: Eleanor + Andrew (+nerissa when they were babies but don’t rly remember)

Julian: 10 yrs Eleanor + Andrew, 2 yrs Helen + Mark + then himself :(

Livvy + Ty: 1/2 Eleanor + Andrew, 1/2 Helen + Julian

Dru + Tavvy: Helen + Julian

I think they are all pretty happy, but I’m going to go with love in a series of bursts & inches because it ends with this really beautiful and cathartic moment between Marjan and her parents, and when she goes to get in her car to drive home and process the day she just had, and how a lot of the assumptions she’s been making about what her parents think about the decisions she’s been making with her life have really been turned on their heads in the last several hours, the first thing she does is call TK and Carlos. Her chosen family, and that’s really the heart of this whole fic 💛

8. Do you get hate on fics?

I’ve never gotten any hate in comments or directly to my face, but there were a few people in the fandom who made it pretty clear they were mad that I included Iris in my Tarlos bachelor party fic All The Stars Are Closer But the feedback I got from folks who actually did read it was really lovely.

For Lando, for someone who has such a self hating and destructive mind- Oscar is his sanctuary. The only place he truly feels safe and at peace with the world. In an ideal world, it would just be him and Oscar. He’d be content like that.

Oscar helps him to get dressed on his day of dispatch from the hospital. They haven’t started chemo yet, waiting to see how the surgery goes before they decide whether or not he needs it. On the bright side, it means that he still has his precious curls. 

He pulls on a beanie anyways, then takes it off, stuffing it into his bag. He has no use for a beanie in Singapore- what was he thinking?

Lando uses Oscar’s shoulders to stabilise himself as the aussie helps him into a pair of grey sweatpants, smirking as he ties the knot on them. “Good look on you,” Oscar murmurs, coyly looking up at Lando from where his head is slightly tilted down.

“Dirty dog trying to get me hard in my hospital room,” Lando grins, watching the crinkles of Oscar’s smile lines deepen.

“Ah ah ah, ex hospital room,” Oscar corrects him annoyingly, waggling his finger. Lando rolls his eyes, yanking his shirt away from Oscar and putting it on himself, smug that he’s able to do it all on his own.

Yet immediately after, he just feels useless- being proud of putting on a shirt without help? He could do that when he was 5, that’s not impressive for a 24 year old- it’s just embarrassing. 

“Lando,” Oscar rests his forehead against the brit’s. Lando’s never been one to be able to mask his emotions- so it’s pretty clear that he’s down in the dumps and more than usual. “Talk to me,”

Lando sucks his cheeks in and looks up at Oscar. “Don’t wanna,” He looks off to the side, pulling down on the hem of his shirt. He feels disgustingly raw and tender, susceptible to even more damage. “I don’t want to talk about it,” He rephrases.

Oscar doesn’t budge, giving him stupid puppy dog eyes as a way to convince him, “Is it about the shirt?” Lando weakly shrugs, “Putting it on yourself?” He nods, looking at Oscar for only a fleeting second, before looking back at his unmade hospital bed. 

“Partially,” Lando chews his bottom lip, scratching his elbow. “It’s just- it’s feeling real, isn’t it?” The cancer, the tumour, the surgery, the commitment.

God, the commitment- Lando hadn’t even had time to think about that. Not only is he gonna have to spend weeks in recovery and rehab- fucking Oscar is going to have to take care of him and ‘manage’ him.

Lando doesn’t want that for Oscar, he wants Oscar to be a free man who doesn’t have to care for his boyfriend like a child, he wants Oscar to race.

“It is very real,” Oscar agrees, slipping on his backpack. He looks awfully young, kinda like a little kid ready for their first day of school. Oscar is young, and so is Lando. Maybe that’s the most difficult part of all of this- it’s happening so early in his life.

Lando hasn’t even really lived yet. A single race win, just under 20 podiums, almost 6 years in F1, not a single world championship- only 24 years old.

And he’s not ready- he’s not ready to be sick, to have a life threatening illness, to undergo surgery.

But even less than all of that- he’s not ready to die.

So he picks up his bag, holds Oscar’s hand and squeezes it with the reassurance of ‘I’ll be okay’

He’ll fake it till he makes it.

The two of them walk out of the hospital, and they make it only a few metres before they have a few people shoving cameras, phones, and hats in their faces- fans begging for attention. Lando boils with rage- the disrespect that people show them- acting like they’re fucking animals animals in a zoo. 

He pushes past them, while Oscar gives a weak smile to a few photos, trying to keep the piece. “I’m not signing,” Lando grunts, pushing away the arm of a man who looks double his age, shoving a Daniel Ricciardo McLaren shirt in his face.

The man heckles him, calling him rude for ‘not wanting to interact with fans’. Lando opens his mouth, ready to spit defences for himself and insults towards the man before Oscar yanks him away, pulling him into their awaiting car. 

They’re lucky that the car has near completely pitch black tinted windows as Lando collapses into Oscar, his head in the Australian's lap as he just sobs. “Oscar,” His voice breaks, his body just so exhausted. He’s so tired, all the time. He can hardly talk, hardly think, hardly be himself. “I- I can’t do this,”

He can’t feel like this. Lando has a reputation to uphold, he prides himself on the fact that he tries to make each and every one of his fans feel cherished and special, not like he ignores them when it doesn’t suit them. To the outside world, he’s still normal Lando, he’s still healthy Lando.

He can’t act like this out and public, he can’t let people know he’s not well.

Oscar taps their driver on the shoulder, telling him to just drive as he begins to adjust Lando- making sure he’s strapped in with his seatbelt as Lando getting injured in the possibility they crash is the last thing either of them need. When Lando’s safely in his seat, Oscar curls up into Lando, stroking his curls and kissing his head. “I’ll take care of you, baby,” He whispers against Lando’s skin.

For Lando, for someone who has such a self hating and destructive mind- Oscar is his sanctuary. The only place he truly feels safe and at peace with the world. In an ideal world, it would just be him and Oscar. He’d be content like that.

“I love you Osc, I- I don’t say it enough,” He blabbers, his words spilling out of his mouth without an end. Part of him wants to confess all the things he has always been too scared to do out of fear of rejection or judgement because there’s a nagging worry deep inside him that is telling him he’s gonna die- that the surgery is going to kill him and he’s going to die with so many unsaid thoughts and confessions.

“You say it enough,” Oscar comforts him, holding onto Lando like he’s scared the older man is going to wither away in his arms. “You do, Lans, you make me feel so loved,”

“No I don’t,” His voice comes out as a croak, his throat burning and aching from swallowing back sobs. “You have no idea how much I love yo- you’re my whole world, you’re my everything , Osco,” He can;t see it, but he knows Oscar’s smiling at that- at the nickname. It’s a sad smile though, like he knows why Lando’s confessing.

Like he knows Lando fears dying too soon.

“I love you, Lano,” He giggles, a teary one. “You’re gonna be okay, I know it- you’ve always been okay,” But Lando’s always been well enough , he’s never had something as serious as cancer. “You’re a fucking F1 driver, mate, you’re gonna beat this shit,”

It’s weirdly funny to him- he’s an F1 driver who races against the fear of death every single day, with each time he steps into that car, he has to prepare to not exit it- yet the thing that’ll most likely kill him is a mass in his brain.

He stores that thought in his mind for later, deciding to allow himself to switch off for just a bit. He wants to be numb, be putty in Oscar’s hands. “You’re right, you muppet,” He grins, the tears on his cheeks dribbling down further. For once, they both smile genuinely, and there’s hope.

Maybe not hope for recovery, but hope for Lando that Oscar won’t up and leave when it gets hard.

The remainder of the trip to get on the plane goes by in a blur. Lando’s bundled up in a huge jacket, sunglasses, a beanie, and a disposable blue medical face mask to avoid any awkward confrontation  that could send him into another spiral. Oscar does something similar, but luckily being relatively new to the sport has his perks and he goes undetected with just a face mask from his time at prema and his hood up over his head.

They sit next to each other on the plane, neither of them watching or listening to anything for the whole flight because it’s painfully overwhelming and overstimulating to Lando, and Oscar wants to keep himself level with lando. If Lando does something, Oscar does the same.

They do hold hands though, and it feels all really good. 

Mark met them at the airport, so now he’s sitting across from them on the private jet, giving the couple about as much privacy as they get from the drive to survive film crew. He’s tapping away at something on his ipad, and Oscar dramatically mocks the older man to Lando, wiggling his eyebrows and opening and shutting his mouth like a gaping goldfish- mouthing a bunch of random teases.

Lando laughs, so fond of the Australian. He officially can take the statement he made during the lie detector test back; Oscar is a funny teammate. He’s a funny boyfriend, he’s a perfect boyfriend, he’s a perfect boy- he’s perfect.

They make a little game out of trying to kiss as much as they can without getting a reaction out of Mark, and they’re successful for a bit, alternating between pecks and deeper kisses, stifling laughs each time they pull apart and their eyes dart to where Mark is truly invested in whatever is going on his screen.

It's a solid 15 minutes into their little game when Mark, without looking up, finally speaks, “I can clearly see you two kissing- I just chose not to say anything,” He announces, confirming that he did know what they were trying to do. 

The two boys turn slightly red, looking at eachother with huge grins. Once again, feeling like teenagers being caught. It’s nice though, kissing without consequence. Mark is also a part of the small group of people who know about their relationship- basically being Oscar’s second dad and all, so they’re really allowed to do whatever. 

Whatever in reason , that is.

So, when Mark falls asleep, Lando gives Oscar a slight nudge in the arm. He’s feeling good, having recently taken some of his strong medication that is the only non-drowsy one. It was a calculated decision- he had plans.

Or, he has plans. Plans involving Oscar and the plane bathroom.

Fuck yeah. Fuck being sick, Lando's gonna make the most of his final days before surgery and join the infamous mile high club.

AIGHT, INFO DUMP TIME-

This is a list of ideas/headcanons of the tfa fandom that crossed my mind, piled into one giant mess. Enjoy.

those are things that i consider canon in my works. (outside of AUs)

PLEASE READ- THE LIST KEEPS BEING UPDATED.

1. Bee has a golden voice when singing, he’s anxious about it tho. [the whole headcanon explained] After some time and events this scenario happens and Bee gets more comfortable around others.

2. Bee is basically a stuntman when skating. Casual or on battlefield, his actions are purely impulsive. Sometimes he’s lucky and pulls off that sick move... sometimes he ends up in medbay for many long hours. Here’s an example.

3. Bee is a good actor, he can lie on the spot and get away with it... most of the time. He’s also good at hiding his emotions. Fake it till you make it... or at least before Prowl comes knocking at your door.

4. Bee has 3 modes; Chaotic/Feral Gremlin, Kind Child and on rare occasion; Lazy Ferret. When he dates someone, there comes a 4th one; Lovestruck Idiot.

5. Bee is the early bird and wakes up way before the rest of the Autobots. He’s made a little routine of making the morning oil for the rest of the team. It’s the only thing he can “cook” really.

6. Sari keeps the weird healing powers the key had when she upgrades herself. Ratchet helps her figure it out and teaches her cybertronian first aid.

7. Ratchet knows human curses and will use them when things are going down.

8. Sari and Bee are the young sibblings™. Prowl plays the role of the babysitter, keeping those two out of trouble.

9. Bee often vents to Prowl about topics he wouldn’t talk about with anyone. They have an unspoken agreement to never do anything to mess with the other when it comes to these meetings.

10. Prowl is accidentally creepy, he will eavesdrop or spy on someone unintentionally. He doesn’t mean it, but his curiosity can get the best of him sometimes. Here’s a list of things he eavesdropped so far.

11. Optimus is a kindsparked leader, he’ll think of the person’s wellbeing first instead of “is this okay with the law?”

12. Bulkhead sometimes helps the architects with building stuff, he likes the art aspect and the job is easy cuz he can carry like few tons of materials at once.

13. Random!Blitz will eat various things that are definitely not meant to be eaten. Glow sticks, scraps, paint and even some organic things. He also chews on anything that he find appealing. Somehow, he has yet to end up in medbay for doing that.

14. Blitzwing likes to sculpt, he’ll carve in wood, stone, ice and metal.

15. Bee likes to set up harmless traps to mess with Prowl, his time repairing space bridges taught him how to construct things. He’s quite crafty. Unfortunately, Prowl still remembers how to pull a prank in return. Here’s one of them.

16. Longarm(Shockwave) actually kinda likes Bee. The bot is optimistic, kind and funny. He likes to hang out with the scout and have some fun, but other than that he focuses on his duties as a traitor Prime.

17. Lugnut is Lugnut, he’s basically in love with Megs. Megs wants nothing to do with him except for work.

18. Autobots and Decepticons are not separate species of transformers like i often see. They just have different builds and codings. A transformer who’s not aligned with any of the factions doesn’t have any specific behavior attached, it all depends on what they learn as a sparkling. If they choose a faction, an additional coding is added to their system which might alter their behavior slightly.

19. Since time units are very confusing in the fandom i decided to settle on this: Nanoklik (1 second), Klik (1 minute), Joor (1 hour), (Solar/Lunar)Cycle (day/night), Decacycle (week), Orbital Cycle (month), Stellar cycle (1 year). Then it all goes like normal; decades, centuries, millennia. Sometimes i will use other transformer time terms when i don’t know what else to use.

20. Ratchet, despite being a medic, dismissed his own small damages. He says he will take care of them later but never does, which later comes back as a bigger problem. Like a trembling wheel, dimmed light or glitched comm piece. He’s learned to go fix himself when reminded about them or look for Sari.

21. Prowl has a bad habit of nightly snacking, he meditates all day long and sometimes forgets to refuel. Bad habit but he’s not really keen on stopping.

22. Shockwave/Longarm is the tech folk, the one who manages files and all, but he’s also somewhat of a medic. He knows how to patch system errors/viruses as well as fix some external damages.

23. Megatron actually remembers Optimus’ name, he just chooses to avoid using it because he has a grudge against the Prime for kinda offlining him.

24. Prowl doesn’t die in my timelines/AUs. Nor does Blurr. Nobody does(permanently). I just can’t let them.

25. Claws and sharp dentae are a basic upgrade you get when becoming Decepticon. Based on the frame type, there are few exceptions, example: Blitzwing has both sharp teeth and claws, but Lugnut has only sharp teeth cuz his servos are not compatible with the claws. Same with Shockwave but he's only got claws.

26. Bee was raised in the orphanage, he never brought it up to anyone. The only one to know might be the one he’d date. Bulkhead knows little about it but not the whole story. [See this post]

27. Since Shockwave has 2 forms, he has something similar to Blitzwing’s multiple personalities thing- it’s not that intense, but there is a weird switch in his mind that he can activate on command. He is more laid back and cheery when he’s Longarm. When he’s Shockwave he’s very calm and focused- It’s his peak performance form, so to say. A weird thing that happens with Longarm is that he’ll be focused and calm with everyone but the second he, Bee and Bulkhead are alone- it’s time for wild fun.

28. Everyone thinks Random is the cannibal. He’s not, Icy is the one enjoying devouring a fellow mech. He keeps quiet about it, Random is just hyping it up like he usually does with everything.

29. Blackarachnia may be a mad scientist but she would help someone out if they begged her enough. She’d do everything to fix a bot- but then use them for her own goals. Every “transaction” you make with her will have the consequences... well, unless she’s “feeling generous”- which is like a miracle and you’ve probably made her feel bad if she does this.

30. Bumblebee loves to dress up. He loves human clothes, he loves cosmetic upgrades, he liked the temporary paint that is make up. He’ll never admit or show it though. He feels like if he does, he’s gonna be judged and everyone’s gonna stop liking him. Dressing up makes him feel like he’s truly pretty and amazing. He doesn’t want that feeling crushed if others find it weird and tell him to stop.

31. Bee dresses up for Halloween with Sari. Despite what i said in the previous point, he allows himself to dress up in cool costumes- usually the classics like a vampire or ghost. Never anything cute tho- those costumes are saved for his time alone. One time he made himself look like the haunted black taxi from that one movie- Optimus was on patrol and heard about some shady car scaring people so he went to check it out. Poor Bee tried to scare him too and got send to medbay. Optimus apologized for two days after that incident.

32. Bee has a job that earns him human money- in some weird chain of events he met a guy with a shop that sells old and damaged stuff. He offered to pay Bee money to bring him old stuff from garbage yards/trash stations that may be restored and sold. So now he has a fun and productive way of earning money to buy new games. He goes treasure hunting at least once a week.

33. Bumblebee and Prowl are almost the same height; motorbikes are small, even when compared to tiny cars. Prowl is only few inches taller than Bee. He is very thin in build, Bee is more bulky and wide. Bee is also physically stronger than Prowl- Prowl is always using tactics and momentum and physics and such to gain advantage over stronger enemies.

34. Bee is a natural climber- being the short bot, it’s obvious he has to climb to reach that shelf. His servos have rough pads on them to help him stick to surfaces better. It’s especially effective with earth’s buildings since they’re made of rough concrete.

35. Bee naps in weird places. His favorite places to nap are Bulkheads subspace and under his berth.

36. Bee will learn anything about any game just to win. He has a self-claimed title “Game King”. One time he found out about Prowl liking chess- he spend the next few cycles on research and perfecting his skill with online chess. The “Game King” title has been made valid by everyone after Prowl got obliterated in chess by Bee.

37. Prowl has to temporarily move out of his room in winter because there is no roof. He has a back-up room for when the snow starts piling up and he can’t recharge in it. He also has to recharge in the back-up room when there is a heavy downpour and his room floods.

38. Each Team Prime member has their own love language/way fo showing affection/care. [Here i listed them]

39. At some point in the story, Bee and Bulkhead would become Amicas. Not Conjunxes(spouses)- they are Amicas(long-term best friend). [this and this]

40. I imagine Bumblebee would be a great parent- sure he’s reckless most of the time but when it comes to Sparklings- something in his mind switches and he goes full ‘Mama Bear mode’. [exaples: this and this]

41. Optimus is a great cook, he especially loves to bake. Bee is into mixology- he makes morning oil for everyone after all. Prowl cooks with organic ingredients for Sari, he wants her to eat more healthy so he takes it upon himself to make sure she does. [anker post]

42. Bee loves racing, in AU or not. He’ll go up to anyone and challange them to a race. The winner gets the respect of being faster. Blitzwing is Bee’s go-to race rival, they have fun together and mess around on some occasion. [anker post]

43. Bee got crayons from Bulkhead. Sometimes he will draw things- he drew a picture for their first christmas and everyone loves it, it’s hanging in the main room now.

44. Here you have Halloween and Christmas traditions with the group cuz i’m too lazy to write an entire point for it.

Passing zora fan here and I personally think you are more correct when you pointed out eldest daughter curse with regards to Mipha's age. It's easy to not notice since we never see her stand next to full grown zora women (which are probably around 7-8 feet tall) but she is VERY SHORT, shorter than Link and he's also short. Since she's so small, it makes more sense for her to not be an adult. Which isn't to say you don't grow as an adult, but an adult Zora who's still growing wouldn't be as short as her.

The way she carries herself is 100% the eldest daughter curse. Her situation is extremely similar and somewhat parallels what Zelda (who was 16 just turned 17) goes through in botw. They both have societies with high expectations, and an important magical ability. The main difference between the two was that Mipha had a considerably more loving (though not perfect) environment and was able to channel her emotions, and use her power, which Zelda couldn't do till the last moment unfortunately due to her environment. This parallel is acknowledged by Mipha trying to give Zelda advice, but getting cut off just before she can speak. I also think the way Mipha handles herself is not that of an adult, but that of a teenager who is forced to be an adult.

I know it's possible my point might be countered by the one NPC named Finley who looks like a child but "is a young woman who hasn't hit her growth spurt yet" but I 100% believe that Finley is NOT in fact an adult, but a fresh teenager who is going through the "I'm practically an adult" phase. I know the game tries to say otherwise but it's some goofy and contradictory writing in my opinion.

I'm sorry if this sounded super emotionally charged realized it might T-T I'm just very autistic about the zoras and very passionate. I'm genuinely not trying to sound like an ass. Tumblr just decided to show me your post and I wanted to post my own opinion, I apologize if I bothered you

i don't have a particularly strong opinion about mipha's age like i do with revali, so i think you and the other anon are just going to have to duke it out on the field together about it LOL. i won't debate about the correlation between height and age as a 20 year old asian afab person, but i do think if zora genetics have any similarities with hylian/human genetics, then there could be a possibility of mipha being older and still tiny. perhaps she was a late bloomer or inherited a recessive gene/condition/etc that caused her be much smaller than the rest of her peers. seeing as that king dorephan is fucking massive and we never see her mother (as far as i know, i haven't played loz in a while), the speculations we can have on the extent of zora puberty, especially regarding mipha and sidon's genetics, is pretty limited bc the game obviously doesn't focus on biology and the details are likely kept intentionally vague to encourage players to ship mipha and link etc.

i don't have anything substantial to say regarding finley LOL i agree that nintendo was a bit messy with the localization for whatever that story was supposed to be about. i do quite like your reasoning about her still being a teenager forced to act an an adult in lieu of the Eldest Daughter Curse since i have had similar experiences and caught onto that immediately as well. that parallel between her and zelda haunts me; they could have been so close, bonding over their similar circumstances but we get that all taken away by the calamity.

My Top 12 TGaMM S2 songs (in no particular order)

Kinda like in Centaurworld, I found more songs in S1 than S2 that I liked but that's not to say that the songs weren't enjoyable. It's just a shame I won't be able to make a S3 list T_T

12. Frightful No More [A Doll to Die For]

It's great to hear Lord Hater again and a song that's an homage to "Everything's Coming Up Roses" (Gypsy) and "The Rain in Spain" (My Fair Lady)...at least that's what it make me think of.

11. It's Just Your Masterpiece in You [Faint of Art]

This episode was a pretty nice message on art block and a fear of failure that a lot of artists face, especially when they haven't done anything in years. I tend to procrastinate by snacking, which of course I can't draw with food fingers (even when using a napkin) so I gotta wait till it goes away, oh whoops, now the days ended, oh well, tomorrow...

10.Thai Culture Cram [100% Molly McGee]

A fun song showing the lengths that Molly is willing to go to learn half of her culture. Granted she didn't realize that this stuff takes time but she's on the right path.

9.Me & My Dad [Like Father, Like Libby]

Kid's who have an absentee parent def felt what Libby is singing about in this one. It just sucks when someone who should be important in your life, doesn't take it as serious as you'd wish they would.

8. Hit Restart [Perfect Day]

Gotta love how relaxed the singer is while describing the continuiously hectic attempts Molly and Scratch make at having a perfect first day of the year.

7. Identity Crisis [Davenport's in Demise]

It's a shame we didn't get more from Andrea this season, especially after this ep. I know we would've gotten her and Alina in S3 but still, I would've liked to see how her and Molly are friends

6. Maybe Next Time [The End] (Spoilers)

Scratch's backstory was a gut-punch, especially for those of us that feel like we're wasting our lives away. It does kinda remind me of a more sad version of "I Remember It Well" (Gigi)

5. Enjoy Your Afterlife [The New (Para)Normal]

A fun song with the Ghost Council about life after the Chairman's defeat that kinda reminds me of "Go Back to City Hall" in S1

4. You Got to Be Low-Key [The (After)Life of the Party]

Jinx is such a little shit in this song. Not to mention this was the ep that confirmed that Geoff and Jeff are married

Nikolas. When he first started going to school, lots of teachers would not stop looking at him, because he reminded them of someone else. He thinks he and his father share a lot in common, even some of the drinking problems. Although he would never treat his brothers the way he had treated him or Edvardas. And since they only share the same mother, the other one would be Danielius. He's a carbon copy of his own father.

2. Who looks the most like mom?

Edvardas. He's got her eyes and nose. But Adamas is the one who is most similar to their mother in personality.

3. Who eats the most?

Danielius. There's a good chance that you might bump into him in the kitchen late at night, when he is trying to find something to snack on in the fridge. However, Robertas love to sneak bites off his brother's foods as well. He lives by the motto that sharing is caring.

4. Who has been in the weirdest situations?

Definitely Edvardas. Let's just say that he's always been a bit difficult. He used to storm out of the house and disappear for over a week sometimes. Causing his brothers to worry about his whereabouts because he would not bother contacting them. And ever since he was young, he would always find himself in trouble without even looking for it. He has some stories to tell.

5. Who sleeps the most?

Danielius. He goes to bed around three am and can sleep till noon.

6. Most stable romantic life?

I'd say probably Nikolas, since he was so close to getting married once, but he had ended it abruptly. He doesn't date around unless he's certain about a connection. Edvardas is a serial dater. He has had far too many partners over the years. Robertas had been in two serious relationships before, one of them being long-distance. Adamas never dated. And Danielius, well, he's still young. He's got his eyes currently on someone. But he's not sure about how she feels about him.

7. Worst habit of each one?

Nikolas has substance issues, so that makes him unreliable. Edvardas is hot headed, and tends to act before thinking. Robertas takes other people's stuff without asking. Adamas can be a bit far too independent sometimes, and he tends to go behind people's backs. And Danielius procrastinates.

8. Who's the most dramatic?

Edvardas. Come on, we are literally talking about the man, who had run away from his family the moment he had found out that he's got some mumbo jumbo super powers.

9. Who had a weird phase?

No one, really. Well, I don't consider most of the things weird. I do think that Adamas likes listening k-pop, and even today, you'd see him making new playlists with the songs that he had discovered recently. Robertas went through a goth phase.

10. Best cook of the family?

Edvardas. He works as a chef, and I can tell you that he is so good at it, that he would throw me out of the kitchen. And would ask me to stop using so many spoons because he doesn't understand what I am trying to make. His love language is cooking for people he loves.

11. Best memory together?

You know, there's too many of those. So many of the best memories stem from childhood where they were practically inseparable. They would always be playing together outside. They would go camping every summer. And after their father had gone to sleep, they would stay up all night around the bonfire, and tell each other scary stories. Probably with Danielius slowly drifting off to sleep and falling asleep on Rob's shoulder.

13. Dream trip together

They don't really have anything in mind. But someone like Edvardas would probably want to go to hitch a ride and go somewhere. At least to take a temporary break from magic and just feel normal again. Remember what it is like to be a human without many responsibilities.

14. Would you rather not be able to shower for a month or have the same clothes for a month?

Nikolas would be most straightforward with his answer. Have the same clothes for a month. Edvardas and Robertas would be so baffled, they would end up getting into an argument. Adamas would be busy laughing at those two. Danielius would end up scratching his nose and think about it for hours. And would forget what you even initially asked him because his mind wandered off somewhere else.

Nikolas.

16. Role model?

Without hesitation, Adamas would always pick Nikolas. He admires his eldest brother far too much, and is thankful for how he kept the family together despite many struggles that they had run into.

17. Who usually has the worst ideas?

You know, it would be far too obvious if I answered Edvardas, right? So, let's go with Danielius for this one. He also has a tendency to think with his heart before using his brain. And while it is too much of a spoiler to give out why I am saying so, he almost got himself in trouble in order to save Medeina.

18. A GIANT insect is on the wall, who's taking care of it?

If it's a spider, Danielius is screaming and running out of the room, only to never be seen again. Or hiding behind Robertas or Nikolas. If it is a beetle, Robertas would pick it up and bring it outside, without much disgust. Usually the insects love him.
