2. Is there a trope you’ve yet to try your hand at, but really want to? I’ve been sitting on this silly Kidklok fic for a while (They all get turned into kids again for Reasons and Charles and Abigail have to make sure they Don’t Die) that I think would be a lot of fun. And maybe bodyswapping? I don’t have a fic idea but I know who would go into who. (Skwisgaar into Murderface, Murderface into Toki, Toki into Nathan, Nathan into Pickles, Pickles into Skwisgaar. Skwisgaar washes and styles Murderface’s hair with actual products. Pickles can’t get used to his new center of gravity. Murderface walks around in increasingly ridiculous and skimpy outfits. Toki keeps trying to take over the band. Nathan doesn’t understand why he can’t reach anything anymore.) I also..........kinda wanna try my hand at sex pollen? But like a mutually consensual sex pollen? That’s one of those ‘how can I take this ridiculous concept and make it plausible’ ideas. I know how I’d do it. Can I execute it? Ehhhhhh... 7. Share a snippet from one of your favorite pieces of prose you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it. There are two parts in chapter 15 of APA that I’m really proud of, because they’re both times when I wanted to articulate something very specific, and evoke very particular emotions. I feel like these were those rare times when what was in my head matches what’s on the page. It’s this part in Skwisgaar’s section: As he sat, the right side of Skwisgaar’s blanket tumbled invitingly open, laying in the gap between his and Toki’s bodies. He mirrored Toki’s pose. Overhead, the sky was a murky mush. Navy blue clouds on the edge of black, swollen with potential snow. They evoked a sadness in the pit of Skwisgaar’s chest he could not place. Some long ago childhood disappointment, the specifics lost but the hurt everlasting. And this part in Toki’s: The tree’s sturdy trunk followed the divot of Skwisgaar’s spine, its branches braiding over and through one another as they fanned across his shoulder blades. Gnarls and knots poked playfully from the bark. A dragon slumbered in the winding roots at the small of his back.   “It’s--” “Yggdrasil,” Toki whispered with awe. Skwisgaar viewed him in profile. “You knows it?” “Yes.” Toki’s hand drifted to the portrait, but he stopped himself. “Cans I...? “Uh.” He righted his neck. “Shores.” Skwisgaar’s muscles stiffened, then relaxed beneath Toki’s touch. His fingers glided across the wood with caution, as though he might catch a splinter if he was too reckless. The leaves expanded, welcoming, and Toki realized Skwisgaar had not been breathing. 17. Do you write your story from start to finish, or do you write the scenes out of order? I used to jump around a lot but I never got anything finished that way, so starting with Stay Alive I forced myself to stick to chronological order. If I’m stuck on a part or just futzing with it too much, I’ll put a [AND THEN THIS THING HAPPENED], move on, and circle back later. My notes are still out of order and incomprehensible to anyone who is not living inside my brain.  21. How many times do you usually revise your fic/chapter before posting? I revise as I’m writing, which is a blessing and a curse. Sometimes I can get stuck on the same scene for weeks because I’ll just keep tinkering at it. But on the flip side I feel like what I post is the most “complete” it’s going to be. (Or I just post it because I’ve been working on it for months and I’ve given up. Either way it’s getting posted.)

Of course! I love that the other post is considered a season 5 AU lol. I had a completely new girlfriend character in mind with that because I was trying to think of what the most realistic thing would be if the show was to explore Quinn's queerness. I mean, they proved they weren't gonna, but if it were to happen and with Dianna's availability in mind a new character would be the best bet.

But! A Faberry version. I have to take more liberties with how it would diverge and Dianna's availability but I'll still try to keep it as realistic as possible. At least how I view what Glee would realistically do. It's gonna be more of a season 6 AU but it also starts in "100".

So the premise is the same: ND loses at Nationals, everyone comes back to say goodbye to the club. Quinn still brings Biff and both Puck and Santana confront her about how fake it all seems. Quinn doesn't listen and storms off, somehow ending up in a scene with Rachel. Let's say they're in the bathroom, it's their spot. Rachel's upset about the Pezberry feud and discusses it with Quinn instead of Mercedes (who, meanwhile, is talking sense into Santana) and Quinn shares her doubts about Biff. They reminisce about how they promised to stay in touch but have been so busy recently that they haven't talked since "Naked". We see it on both Quinn and Rachel that they feel lighter, now they've talked to each other than they have in weeks or even months.

Maybe the new UHT trio still happens, maybe in this version it's Toxic (feat. Rachel looking respectfully) but there for sure would be a song and a montage still. Like I said in the other post, flashbacks of Quinn at Yale and we find out she's been experimenting since hooking up with Santana but in this version, Yale Girlfriend got tired of waiting and Quinn pushed her away in favour of Biff.

In "New Directions", Pezberry make up and Rachel reflects on it with Quinn. Quinn breaks it off with Biff after everyone keeps telling her to and the final push is Rachel saying "I think you deserve a lot better than that" or something. They have a final scene not dissimilar to the ones they kept having in season 3 where they promise to do a better job of keeping in touch this time. And then Quinn is a subtle presence in season 5B, such as having at least a phone convo with Rachel in "Opening Night' (but ideally going to the show) and being the one Rachel discusses her TV show deal with. I think this buildup would be needed after they spent an entire season apart and season 5 would just re-establish the Faberry bond and that Quinn has been trying to figure things out offscreen. I'd also throw in a little queer something for Rachel: when Mercedes discusses virginity and sex with her, it comes up that Rachel wouldn't mind being with a girl. Maybe have Santana be there because then it's much easier to bring it up and disguise it as comedy when it's actually foreshadowing.

So come season 6 and Rachel's TV show fails, returning to Lima in disgrace. She starts ND back up with Kurt and they have alumni make guest appearances, all that stays the same with a key difference: give Sam's plot to Quinn. She doesn't have to teach at McKinley or anything, though she could help out with the Cheerios after Sue's fall from grace. How would she have the time while also actively being a student at Yale, it's Glee ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ So anyway, Quinn's there and she's there often. Rachel confides in her about doubts about the future and what she should do and Rachel keeps wanting to know what Quinn's been up to but she's closed off. Finally, it's revealed that Quinn's been having on and off relationships with girls and she hasn't told many of her Lima friends (Santana and Brittany know) because she's not ready to label things or deal with all of it. Rachel reassures her that she doesn't have to hide anything and it wouldn't take long after that for the two to realize there could be something between them.

I see them trying to keep it casual but failing because of all the baggage they have. You know, they're back at McKinley and that drags up memories plus there's the memory of Finn hanging above them as a constant, so by the time the Brittana wedding rolls around they're on the fence about going together. But the conclusion is that they can't keep it casual because there are too many deep feelings there so they might as well commit and give it a real shot. And fast forward five years? Who knows.

I'm sorry if that feels underwhelming compared to Quinn getting a random girlfriend in s5 haha, I'm happy you asked for a Faberry version but I just don't really see the show diving right into that. Obviously this version would need Quinn to be in the story more because you can't really have the protagonist's love interest be in like two episodes. I guess they could have pulled a St Berry but Rachel had a past romantic relationship with Jesse whereas with Quinn it needs more buildup.

So anyway, if RIB weren't cowards and had Quinn explore her sexuality, and more than that if they actually went for Faberry and we're only diverging for the last 22 episodes, I could see it go down something like this. The two reconnect in 100, Quinn's a subtle presence for the rest of season 5, and then it's her Rachel moves on with instead of Sam. I'd also have them stay together, unlike Samchel. What are your thoughts on it? How would you have Faberry get together in the show? Please do share!

1-15 for the writers meme for ‘With Every Broken Bone.’ (I’m in a rereading mood for fanfic and I’m thinking about rereading this). Also you know I love this one!!

1: What inspired you to write the fic this way?

When season 6 came along, admittedly, I had a really hard time reconciling going from a happy ending in season 5 to broken in season 6.  And writing about it kind of was an interesting cross-section of therapy and analysis.   While I was figuring out the timeline of events -- I noticed that there were some interesting parallels/juxtapositions going on, and because I thought I may not be writing more Klaine fic after this one (ha) I might as well take my own spin on a few famous portions of Klaine’s story.  

2: What scene did you first put down?

I tend to write chronologically, so the opening flashback scene was probably first.  I can’t fully remember.  I did have a whole outline, though, before writing. 

3: What’s your favorite line of narration?

Hmmm, I’m not entirely sure, since a lot of the specific narration I don’t remember as much anymore.  I do love the entire month of June chapter, though, which is mostly narration.  I love that it’s Kurt finally getting what he thought he wanted -- to be alone -- and finding himself through that, but also that even he can experience loneliness when having too much distance from everyone else.  

Also early in the story when Kurt goes dancing with a guy and he starts to connect to him -- feeling Blaine through him -- only to realize the dude isn’t Blaine and basically has a panic attack.  That moment was always really clear in my head, and I liked writing that one.  

4: What’s your favorite line of dialogue?

Oh, ha, it’s, like, my favorite line of dialogue ever, cause it’s a delightful metaphor for Klaine’s story at the time (And I’m sure people aren’t really that impressed with what I find clever, and are sick of me quoting myself, but I’m still amused by it) 

“You know what it’s like?  It’s like I stubbed my toe.  And my toe hurt. A lot.  And I tried to ignore the pain in my toe, but after a while it got so bad that something had to be done.  So, instead of taking care of my toe, I chopped off my foot.  Do you know how much worse chopping off your foot feels? Of course it took me four months to figure out how much it fucking hurts.  And now I don’t have a foot.  Just a bloody stump.  I shouldn’t have cut it off.  I could have fixed the toe.”

In addition, I also really enjoy some of the convos with Mercedes -- the one where she’s discussing her break up with Sam, and how, in a way, the two break ups are similar.  I also love the July flashback with Mercedes -- because it foreshadows a lot of the story, and I thought it was rather clever.  

5: What part was hardest to write?

The July chapter! Oh god, I think I had most of the rest of the fic done and kept having to put that on pause.  I wanted Kurt to have another romantic interest during the summer - and get a sense of what casual relationships are like, and discover what he’s like in relationships that aren’t with Blaine.  And to have to do that, set it up, pay it off, go through the whole thing and have it be meaningful was really hard.  It took a long time to figure it out.  

Not as difficult, but still I found challenge with, the flash back to the first break up.  Trying to figure out how Kurt felt differently, and exploring how it was a different thing in a short amount of time was difficult. 

The September flashback was difficult, too, because I needed Blaine to be frustrated without being too needy, or too much a bad guy.  I know betas and talking it out helped a lot on that one. 

6: What makes this fic special or different from all your other fics?

This was my first big fic for Glee, and the first one where I felt like I was a decent writer.  It also helped me figure out Kurt and the show in a way that I hadn’t before, and I love the character more from writing it.  

7: Where did the title come from?

The lyrics of ‘I Lived’ -- I thought it was a nice touch that it was the last song on the show, and it fit with story I was trying to tell.  

8: Did any real people or events inspire any part of it?

Yes! A lot of my experiences of New York I wrote into it here and there.  

Also the story about thunder being god bowling.  I had a cousin who used to tell me that so it didn’t seem so scary. 

9: Were there any alternate versions of this fic?

Not really? The only big thing I cut out was an extension of the stuff with June Dalloway in chp 3 (?) -- my betas talked me into cutting that way down, and they were right to do so.  

10: Why did you choose this pairing for this particular story?

I mean, well, they’re who I write. The pairing picked the story. 

11: What do you like best about this fic?

I really love the story it explores with Kurt in it.  I’m proud of how Kurt grows in it, and how I feel it does bridge the two seasons nicely.  I really love how it gets deep into Kurt’s psyche -- drawing on canon as much as I could to paint a full picture of who he is.  I think he’s a fleshed out and flawed character, and he feels real to me in this one.  

I also really love that I was restrained in my use of Blaine -- he’s a ghost that haunts this story, and I was fascinated with the idea.  I think it really comes through.  Blaine is always there, even when he’s not, even when Kurt’s trying hard to move on.  You miss Blaine in the story, but that’s intentional -- because Kurt deeply misses Blaine.  

12: What do you like least about this fic?

There are still some parts that feel a little clunky to me.  Certain sections that maybe go on too long, or not long enough.  I can tell it’s an earlier fic of mine -- I could have worked on better and more concise sentence structure in a lot of places.  I could have fleshed a few ideas out.  And the October chapter, which is all of season 6, goes on a little too long -- and it feels slightly out of place, but I knew it did even when writing it -- I’m not sure how I’d re do it, but it feels slightly different than the rest of the fic.  

I give myself a lot of leeway because it was my first time writing one, but the sex scene was a bit on the simple side.  It felt more like an obligation - and I was super scared to write it, and basically my betas had to help me construct it cause I had no idea what I was doing and felt funny writing it.  

I also think the Nov. flashback is a little too cheesy, but I was trying to get in all the last minute canon references, so I left it in there.  

13: What music did you listen to, if any, to get in the mood for writing this story? Or if you didn’t listen to anything, what do you think readers should listen to to accompany us while reading?

Yeah, I had a whole playlist for this one!!

I have no idea - that’s up to them to get anything out of it.  

15: What did you learn from writing this fic?

I did! I learned a lot about writing (which having a few fantastic betas really be strict with my writing helped a lot).  I got myself out of some bad habits, and tried to be more introspective than I had been with previous writings.  And I just felt like I stepped up when it came to writing.  I think this is far from a perfect piece of writing, but I’m proud of how it turned out. 

I also learned a lot about Kurt, he became a part of me writing this, and now his story is much more special to me than it had been before.  And I learned a lot about Glee -- how it is as a show, and how it works, cause I looked at the structure of canon, and how it was written.

Yes I can!! Fostered is too thicc for me to give extensive summaries (unless y’all want this) and there is very little you need to know from the earlier books to understand the current ones! That’s because as myself and the series have aged, its genre, age category, and plot points have changed!

Here’s a breakdown (CW: there’s a lot of violence/convo about mental illness/potentially triggering content in these summaries, so tread with caution):

Fostered (book 1) to Resisted (book 3):

These books (Fostered, Hunted, Resisted) are probably the most harmonious out of the 6 (7 including Moth Work) so far! That’s because for a long time, I believed Fostered would end at three books (initially a standalone, then duology). They’re all closely linked through the “foster homes” plot (hence the name of the series) and are obviously the most dystopian of the books (all three are also YA). You can feel the 2014 dystopian vibes in this book lol. I wrote this summary 5 years ago for my first ask ever and it sums up that idea:

The book takes place in the not-too-distant future where children who’ve committed crimes, are neglected, or have chosen to, are sent to behavioural detention centres – what everyone else that’s not the government like to call ‘foster homes’. The story revolves around a fifteen-year-old girl named Reeve who’s lived two years in a ‘foster home’ after being accused of her sister’s murder. Following an accident that she caused which subsequently led to her escape of her foster home, she stumbles across a group of kids, who like her, have gone through the lifestyle and also have escaped. She makes an alliance with them and everything seems in its place until she finds out that a team of hunters are searching for her because of the same accident. Unable to remember anything that happened from the event, she then learns that maybe all things don’t point to her – what really happened on the day she escaped?

I wrote these three books so quickly (though at the time, as a thirteen-year-old, it felt like drafting took forever). I started Fostered in October of 2014, and by May of 2015, I was halfway through Resisted :))))). How?? These books are all above 85k??? I could never!!!

FOSTERED (book 1 - YA dystopian):

Follows the above plot. What isn’t mentioned above is how this book starts. We start with Reeve (15 at the time–a baby!!!) chillin in an abandoned storage unit she was hoping to use as shelter. HOWEVER, plot twist of the season–there are already people there!

She’s semi-ambushed by these people who she later learns are our good ol’ pals Foster and Harrison. The boys are also taking care of a 6-year-old girl named Essie who they love fiercely!! They’re sketched out by Reeve, which we later find out is because–they! know! her! 

Foster, Harrison, and Reeve were actually all the closest pals in a ‘foster home’ they called WAFFLE. Reeve forgets that during the disastrous accident she causes that separates them (she blows up the foster home lmaooo) but lookie here–the squad is reunited! Eventually everyone comes to love each other (though it ain’t like that in the beginning) + Foster and Reeve have a romance which I find so bizarre now?? They would never.

The squad is being “hunted” by a group of “chasers” (I LOVE dystopian lool) headed by a woman named Red who is actually?? a badass? She tries to kill them a bunch of times, Reeve kills Lonan’s sister by using her as a human shield, Essie dies, I’m awful!

HUNTED (book 2 - YA dystopian):

After Essie’s death, the group is shook! Harrison especially as he is *soft* and the “leader” of the group. To protect his other ducklings who are now the most sought after people in America lmao (Foster and Reeve), he does something SCANDALOUS and joins the *government* AKA all the evil people putting innocent children in these awful detention centres. What a 180! Essentially, he does this to purposefully manipulate investigations into Foster and Reeve away from them, but Reeve doesn’t know this so she’s cheesed when she finds out (she feels #betrayed)!

Harrison’s departure of the group triggers the group’s breakup. Harrison joins an *elite* section of the government that *I believe* tries to wrangle runaway foster kids?? This group is lead by our other good pal Lonan and this is the first book he appears in! He takes Red’s place as antagonist in this book.

The group also includes Holly, a badass who is also Foster’s older sister (and also Lonan’s first serious girlfriend)! She’s scary! She also dies by hanging in a blood-drinking cult mid-way through this book! don’t! ask! Margo is this group’s tech analyst, and she’s a mentally distant hippie (and Harrison’s first and last serious girlfriend which obvi didn’t work out lol he’s gay!) Idk what Harrison’s job was here, but he learns techy stuff from Margo!

This book is important because it establishes Lonan, who continues to be a pivotal character as the series progresses. It also establishes Lonan and Harrison’s relationship. Obvi Lonan is the antagonist in this book and won’t make his redemption arc for another 1book lol, but him and Harrison have a bit of a bizarre relationship. Though they’re almost rivals, they almost adore being each other’s rivals (but don’t tell them that)? After Harrison leaves Lonan’s team, the squad essentially is *hunted* by them, hence the book title lol. 

By the end of this book, a few important things happen! Lonan kills Margo (remember, Harrison’s first and last girlfriend lol, we could say Lonan was killing his competition lol is that too much), this obviously reinforces his role as bad guy! After the book’s events, Lonan eventually overtakes the group and they’re all imprisoned! Love it!

RESISTED (book 3 - YA dystopian):

This is my favourite Fostered book because there’s just so much tea! We start in “headquarters” AKA Lonan’s pride and joy! After he kills off his old boss so he can be Ultimate Antagonist (actually because she essentially killed his girlfriend ahaha), he’s the Man in Charge and power trippin like crazy. 

Reeve is separated from Foster and Harrison who are also in HQ because she’s mentally unwell. Lonan has given her the job of executing people (because he is evil) which she ain’t diggin! so Lonan takes it upon himself to address her mental health concerns (which obviously isn’t helping because they mutually hate each other). 

Eventually, Reeve barters with Lonan for what she wants by using Holly’s death (which only she and Foster witnessed) as leverage. As I mentioned above, Lonan essentially kills/drives away his entire *elite government squad* which means! He needs another one! Reeve uses this as an opportunity and says WELL you COULD hire Foster and Harrison. Lonan does and VOILA we suddenly have a new squad!

This is really where we build a relationship between Lonan and Reeve who have previously done nothing but try to kill each other! They actually bond in this bizarre kind of way. While they still don’t like each other, they mutually understand each other more than Foster and Harrison do as in many ways, Lonan and Reeve have both done the same awful things (lots of killing people :))). 

This all builds up to the epic reveal that they are actually half siblings (they share a mother) and oh DOES THE TEA START BOILING. This news causes major tension in the OG squad (Reeve, Foster, Harrison) as Foster and Harrison think Lonan has done too many irredeemable things to be forgiven, despite the fact that he and Reeve are related. They are right! However, Reeve isn’t so quick to decide. 

She and Lonan go through a lot together (including kidnapping! attempted murder! An explosion! Reeve pretending to be a corpse!) which are still some of my favourite things to re-read and the reason I love this book the most out of all the books I’ve written. This is where #redemption arc occurs!

This book is too long for me to cover everything, but essentially their relationship is the most important! The book ends when the squad (now joined by Lonan) is forced out of hiding because Reeve is injured and actually needs real medical attention! This leads to ANOTHER separation, with Reeve heading back to a foster home for the first time in a few years!

Hollowed (book 4) to Rewired (book 6)

HOLLOWED (book 4 - YA (?) dystopian (?))

Book four is my least favourite book of the 6 and that’s because it’s melodramatic and I was finding my writing style! It’s not quite appropriate for YA because of its violent subject matter, but wouldn’t appeal to adults, so it’s a bit category-less. Dystopian elements still exist, but are less relevant, so it’s also a bit muddled in term of genre.

All you need to know in terms of events are that Reeve meets someone named Lincoln in the foster home she’s put in (see previous) who ends up being a horrifically abusive person. He sort of shifts into the role as antagonist, though from this book on, the lines between good guys and bad guys blur. Hollowed also introduces a new character–Glenne! Glenne is Lonan’s second serious girlfriend and remnants of this relationship still show up in current Fostered spinoffs (tho she will be irrelevant in Houses With Teeth most likely). 

SPLINTERED (book 5 - YA?????)

The genre and category of this book are impossible to define. We continue almost where we left off in book four, and this book is pretty unremarkable in terms of events lol. The squad remains the same, except toward the end, we’re introduced to Darren, a dude from California who hears about Lonan’s *elite government squad* (before the government disowned him) and hopes they can help him locate his missing brother (tho he don’t reveal this until book six). 

This book is mostly about Lonan’s declining mental health that still has not gotten better. Some hints of Lonan and Harrison’s relationship getting closer are also dropped in this book.

REWIRED (book 6 - Adult (???) literary fiction sometimes???)

The category of this book is bizarre. It begins as weirdly maybe almost YA, but dips into adult literary fiction at some points. This book is where I really grasped my style and so the genre and category reflect that transition. 

What you need to know about Rewired is the progression of Darren and Reeve’s relationship as it goes from acquaintances to PALS to MORE THAN PALS to I don’t! want to be! your! pal! This book is so weird and disjointed because of this transition away from YA dystopian and into adult literary fiction. We also get even more Lonan and Harrison relationship development as Reeve meddles her way into business that is not hers!

MOTH WORK (spinoff - no categories anymore I have no idea)

The most recent Fostered book! We finally get to see Lonan and Harrison’s relationship on the page and oh boy! Is there tea! As Lonan struggles to grasp trauma from childhood, and Harrison struggles to help him, their relationship goes to places it ain’t never been before! HOUSES WITH TEETH (book 7 - adult literary fiction *I’m hoping*)

I have yet to write this book, but we’re back in Reeve’s head! Here’s a synopsis I’ve shared before:

After escaping a toxic relationship, twenty-year-old Reeve disappears for the second time in one year. She’s drawn to Wicker, a mealy town outside New York City, whose disappearances of affluent girls has caught her attention. The day she arrives, a sinkhole buries one of them in the front yard of her new home, a fixer-upper she shares with estranged friend, Foster. Quickly she falls prey to speculation by herself and others, who try to connect her to the tragedy. And even stranger, false recognitions as the girl in the ground, and the many other missing Wicker girls make her feel more and more like one of them–these alluring, unknown women. 

This book is very much my vibe now as a writer, however, it’s been difficult to re-integrate back into Reeve’s head with all Fostered’s dystopian elements removed! I don’t have much else to share about this book since I know so little about it, but it is essentially my current project.

So I hope that was helpful! There’s a lot of unexplored territory that I worry might be impossible to get into because I legitimately do not remember a lot @sarahkelsiwrites calls me a fake fan lol (I genuinely am), but if y’all ever want to know more, I am 100% down to share whatever! Been writing for 9 years and it’s been a journey for me.

I’ve made this acc 20 minutes ago because I spent my whole night reading this sub and feel like I can free my mind here.

I’ve been writing for 9 years now. I started when I was 11 (whew) and in the beginning, it was just horrible t e r r i b l e self-insert romantic fanfics with horrible grammar. It was a hot pile of garbage.

I’ve since moved on. I realized it’s not all about romance (though other fics don’t seem to get so many views) and it’s more about feeling my fics through. (I still do write romance occasionally but suck if it’s supposed to be joyful). I like to explore why, how, what, where. When someone comments they literally cried, it’s like an achievement for me because I feel like I really did something with my words, made someone feel something.

I just want to yell into the void about a few things.

1) My most popular fic is from 7 years ago with 10 000 views and 60 reviews. I had to pour myself some wine to re-read it a few months back (had a good laugh) but it’s still a pile of hot garbage compared to what I write now. I’m kinda sad my current fics don’t get this type of attention though I feel like they deserve it more.

2) I’ve only told one friend about my writing. She’s super supportive about it since she also writes. She’s read my hot pile of rubbish and liked it. I’ve asked her to read a fic that means the most to me (I’ve printed it out for her) and it’s been three years and nothing. I wrote it while going through some tough times and it’d mean the world to me, it’s a pice of work I’m so proud of.

3) Speaking about that story, I honestly feel like something possessed me while I was writing because no way in hell I’d produce those sentences one more time. I feel like it’s my best work and I managed to smash in all my negative feelings into it. Like, I threw myself into a pit of existential crisis while reading it again after a year.

4) What scares me though, is that I feel like that’s my best work and I won’t be able to top it. Like ever again.

5) I’m currently writing a one-shot collection. I have many ideas for filler stories but somehow they feel like they lack substance. I promised myself I’d write only things I feel really excited about. I do have one idea sitting in my mind but can’t force myself to start it. I just can’t and I’m worried it might not be up to my standards. I’m just scared to start typing and see it’s not what I imagined. I know it’s because I really like the idea and enjoy writing angst very much, I like to dig deep into the character’s thoughts and actions and write not-so-happy stories. I want it to be one of my best works but I’m a worried it will not be up to my expectations.

6) I’d maybe like to write a longer fic again but my mind keeps jumping from one idea to the other, there are like 15 in my notes and I don’t think my brain can work on a full length story after my last one.

I know all these are super petty and dumb and I write more coherently when I’m writing a fic. But if anyone would like to respond to even one of these points, please do, I think if I don’t get into a convo about it here, I won’t get into it anywhere.

On to Rose and Dirk. Phew: Where To Start?

MEAT 7:

ok: I really like how it is basically impossible to tell from this convo whether Rose and Dirk care for or despise one another, and how it’s writing and (apparent)outcome basically declares that question irrelevant(and vaguely insulting in its suggesting that it would be anything other than irrelevant). Which... I feel like will end up being Highly Ironic given Dirk’s(apparent) anti-troll alignment and how expertly that sentiment slots into Blackrom territory(auspisticism in particular, given the “supportive” nature of the convo).

Other than that:

Dirk is absolutely wrong and totally going to fuck things up horribly

Dirk needs to spend less time being smug about his Heart Aspect and more time being Concerned about his Prince Class. He’s a Wrecker, not a Machinist. Hell, “Wrecking Ball” is probably more accurate as he can’t really help himself, or easily understand what he’s doing is destructive except in hindsight.

Rose needs to recognize that Seeing everything isn’t the same as Knowing, let alone Understanding, any of it, and that her personal traits and context can interfere with successfully Comprehending what she Sees, or acting on it appropriately. As in: over-valuing family, desperate for relief from pain, and no stranger to self-doubt she is --without questioning anything(and being a Seer is all about asking the right questions)-- 1)trusting that Dirk knows more than she, a Seer, does, 2)isn’t misunderstanding it 3) is going through something like what she is, 4)is handling it better than her, and 5)can fix or relieve what she’s going through and that 6)he lacks any motivations or ambitions which might confuse his understanding or give him reason to want to muck with Rose’s abilities&godhood, something which could have really terribly bad consequences.

MEAT 8:

The callback to John’s tendency to gawp vacantly at confusing things is Appreciated uwu

I didn’t realize Cherubs could laugh and talk at the same time; that’s pretty cool owo I wonder if they could, like, talk with two voices at once? Or add an Ominous Echoing Undertone to their pronouncements.

The Caliborn dialogue felt a bit off, though. My first thought is that the vocab might be too highfaluten, but it’s been awhile since I read any caliborn so I’d need to go back and check

I like this description of events, it is both Evocative and Economical, and that’s all I have to say on the matter u_u

Night President is NOT a foolish idea, it’s the BEST idea, and shame on all of you for not thinking of it before |:(

I mean: thinking purely of the logistical benefits: No working nights for humans, no working days for Trolls; a truly 24 hour civ, staffed fresh-face and well-rested whenever you need to do anything; the ppl setting and managing nocturnal or diurnal policy are the one’s who understand the unique requirements and impacts of those lifestyles; effectively doubles the size of the economy in a stroke(though recognizing that, in a post-scarcity world, the economy is kind of inherently not a serious thing ppl need to worry about); and that’s just re: trolls and humans!

Ok, so I Wrote a Whole Big Thing ages about about Jake, touching on his intellectual abilities, and arguing that, like John, while he may want to appear to be dim he’s anything but. As such, I not only disagree with Jane’s assessment here but kinda find it a bit infuriating? Of course it’s supposed to be because she’s supposed to be wrong because she’s the bad guy.

I can’t say I like Jane being written as a badguy cuz I dont. I can see how she could go that way and thus don’t think it’s entirely out of character, but there was more to her than ambition and I can’t see her abandoning her morality to such an extent as this instrumentalist, “I’ll sleep with Jake to control him”, approach implies. Also I dont really see, at this point, how that tracks with her decision to “not be too nice” to Jake cuz he’s a bit masochistic? There’s a contradiction in her chosen approach and how this convo plays out that it leaves unresolved. Also this vers seems to totally ignore her genderqueerness/comfort with masculinity, aside from the misogynistic way she attributes traits and desires she dislikes to her femininity.

So is this a satisfying example of Jane being written as a villain, imv? I can’t say yet.

Younger Season 6 Official Trailer warm-up ramble

Ok, I have had every intention of writing a bit of a ramble about the Younger season 6 official trailer since it was released 3 weeks ago and now here we are, one week out from the premiere (how has the time gone so quickly?? But also, I have re-watched the entire series four times since last season ended and started an Instagram account solely dedicated to the show to get me through the hiatus so it has also been FOREVER...also I may possibly need to find some other hobbies (she says as she writes an essay about a promo trailer)...) So I thought I’d better dust off the ol’ over-analysing part of my brain in preparation for the new season because it has been a while since I’ve rambled or reviewed.

Frankly, there is so much to take in in that 2 mins of gloriousness that this is guaranteed to be incoherent at least some of the time, so let’s just start with the beginning and that moment on the brownstone stoop when Charles is telling Liza he has had feelings for her for 16 years and seriously, straight out of the gate, I’m not coping. I mean, I know in my brain that Charles and Liza are now a couple but seeing it, actually SEEING them standing there in broad daylight being all couply and flirty, my feelings were not ready. I am also not ready for the moment I have been waiting for with an absurd amount of anticipation, the Maggie/Charles meeting. Yet here is a glimpse, them sitting all comfy and barefoot on the couch just chatting away, Maggie giving him the bff once-over as appropriately ominous music provides the required effect of DRAH-MAH. I can’t wait to see that scene properly, I just have such high hopes for a Maggie/Charles friendship and I will be waving that flag this whole season.

Through the rest of the Maggie voice-over part of the trailer we get some Amato wisdom about two people who have been through a lot being perfect for each other or dragging each other down like anchors but honestly, at this point I’m finding it hard to concentrate because we have some ‘man coming up behind woman as she’s getting ready for work’ trope in play, which is very distracting for a number of reasons. And then there’s the Liza casually telling Charles she loves him thrown in and EXCUSE ME, for this I was 0% prepared (as was Liza it seems) and 26 seconds in, my deceased status is not boding well for actually making it to the June 12 premiere.

We also get confirmation that everyone at work finds out about Liza and Charles. I am HERE for the ‘it’s ME’ moment because who doesn’t love an open plan office workplace affair reveal (p.s. who ARE all those staff in the office? Where have they been the past 5 seasons? Do they know where Josh’s friends are?)? I’m loving the fancy looking event, this show rocks the glam and Diana, Enzo, Charles, Liza in a room together, seeing them all out and plus-1ing it, I want it all. 

I too want to hear about the regime change Redmond, thank you for asking and this Quinn situation looks every type of intense and I cannot wait! I just LOVE that they’ve made her book suck. The editing of the music to coincide with Quinn’s table taps in the restaurant is just too much, and honestly, the ‘guess who wrote a masterpiece, it will be our first release’ chant, that random lady joining in, Liza asking what’s happening = pure 24 carat tv gold. 

The Kelsey/Zane situation seems like it’ll continue to play out in season 6 and I hope we keep getting to see more sides to Zane because I felt like I was finally beginning to get a more filled out version of the character in season 5. Lauren continues to be Lauren it seems and that is exactly as it should be because she is perfect and I hope we see her do Heller good this season with all that ambition and drive she has.

The big cliffhanger from last season, the Josh/Clare baby ‘who’s the father’ scenario is still front and centre and look, I said it last season and I’ll say it again, I just cannot see why they would bring pregnant Clare back if the baby wasn’t Josh’s. It would be so unbelievably awful to Josh’s character, who just wants to love so wholly and is a refreshing representation of a young guy openly yearning to be a father, that I just can’t imagine the writers of this show going the whole ‘he thinks it’s his but then it isn’t’ route. And after the somewhat stagnant storyline for Josh’s character last season, I would love to see this character have the happiness he deserves and to develop as a stand-alone character whose purpose and development isn’t tied solely to him wishing he was with Liza. I big L LOVE Josh’s friendship with Maggie so I’m happy seeing him chatting to Liza and Maggie about what he should do. 

Which brings me to the scene I have joked about in the past but never thought I’d actually see and that is Charles and Josh laughing together (I’m assuming alcohol is involved) and I tell you, I want that image printed onto canvas and hung on my wall. I mean look, the writers of this show are smart and also, Josh and Charles have to at least get along civilly because otherwise the story is stuck. If Josh doesn’t want to engage with Charles or remains bitter towards him, then Liza is put into a really difficult position, as she would be if Charles took issue with her being friends with Josh or if he didn’t want anything to do with him. The show can’t move forward properly with that kind of set up IMO so I can’t believe that I’m now saying this and it could be a possibility (because I wrote about it as a far-fetched wish at one point), but I would love to see Charles and Josh strike up a friendship and I can actually imagine them chatting about fatherhood and there being a respect there for the fact they both care about Liza. I have no idea of the context of that laughing scene but I’m 99% sure that I will be playing it on a loop after it’s aired.

Ok, before we wrap things up (and lawd knows we need to, I mean, all these words from the trailer, heaven help us once the episodes start again!) there is an axe-throwing, police line up Diana and Kelsey situation that I am going to need much time to absorb once I see it in full but I already know that it’s going to be everything and nothing I expect *praise hands* 

Speaking of scenes that are everything and nothing I knew I wanted, whatever the dance sequence is with Liza in the white dress twirling into a very dapper Charles, I can only assume it’s some kind of dream/hallucination type thing (unless they somehow get roped into a dance competition somewhere??...will reserve my theories and predictions for another day) I am legit so excited to see it because it looks like nothing we’ve ever seen on this show before and after last season’s Cabaret gem, I’m all for these delightful nuggets and love that Younger continues to find new ways to surprise us 6 seasons in.

I think the big emphasis of the ‘you are running my ideas past Charles’/’are you questioning my loyalty?’ indicates some workplace tension between Liza and Kelsey and that Liza trying to balance her relationship with Charles and Kelsey is going to be a real challenge. Not to mention that ominous end to the trailer in which the music cuts out and we hear Charles say ‘I left my company to be with you’ *dun-dun-dunnnn*. My hope is that we see Liza continue to be the strong manuscript dropping boss woman from season 5 and to tell Charles that she never asked him to do that. I mean, I’m sure there’s a whole lot more to the convo, but where would the drama be in that?

As always, Younger have managed to cut together a premium trailer with the appropriate amounts of intrigue, suspense, misdirection and general excellence we have come to love and expect.  

So buckle in and get ready, the countdown has begun. Bring on Season 6!

Thoughts on The Best of the Governor Marathon and Episode Repeats

Morning everyone! It took me a while to get this post organized. I have all kinds of thoughts about things floating around lately. It’s much easier to have the thoughts than it is to organize them into something cohesive and readable, so bear with me.

Part of this comes from a convo @boltthrutheheart and I had a few weeks ago, but I’ll also be focusing a lot on the episodes from Sunday’s “Best of the Governor” marathon.

@boltthrutheheart pointed out something I admit I hadn’t thought much about: how many repeat episodes there are in these character marathons. Yes, we get that these episodes highlight particular characters, and certain episodes highlight more than one, but even so. There are many cases where, rather than do a repeat, they could have used a different episode to better serve that character. 

In fact, a week ago, when they did the “Best of Carol” there were a lot of people in the fandom who complained that she was actually not very present in many of the episodes they chose for her. Episodes like Consumed were conspicuously absent, but that wasn’t the only one by far. So why do so many repeats? Well, let’s put it this way...

It’s obvious that the Carol episodes highlighted her arc as concerned Sophia and other children, as well as episodes that point toward her and Ezekiel’s relationship. I, for one, wasn’t sad that the Daryl/Carol heavy episodes were conspicuously absent. It’s a clear message of where Carol’s arc is going in S9 (and we already have spoilers confirming that). But my point is that if they’re EXCLUDING episodes to send a message, they’re probably also repeating episodes to send a message.

Too Far Gone: Michonne and The Governor’s marathons

As always, I think they’re preparing us for what’s to come in S9. So, they’re probably repeating these episodes because they REALLY want the audience to remember the events in them. Just really trying to emphasize them, you know? For some episodes, I have some ideas (total conjecture of course) on why they might want to emphasize that particular episode. Others, I’m not certain about. I might have to re-watch those episodes to know for certain.

For example: Guts. It’s super-suspicious to me that they’d emphasize this episode. I don’t think it has anything to do with Beth, but rather with Rick’s departure. This past week I did two posts (HERE and HERE) about the walker horde theme. Remember that guts is where Rick and Glenn cover themselves in walker guts to get through the horde in Atlanta. So maybe the start of the walker horde theme or the way in which everyone who’s disappeared under a walker horde and survived will end up having escaped. I mean, it was kind of true of Glenn. He crawled under the dumpster, but he was also covered in gore.  

Maybe when Rick “dies,” we’ll see him be covered in walker guts, which will ultimately help explain how he lives. Showing this episode multiple times might also be a way to symbolically link Glenn’s fake death by walker horde and Rick’s apparent death by walker horde (i.e. they’ll both survive.)

I’m not going to go over all the repeated episodes in this post, but let’s talk about Too Far Gone. Remember, I keep saying I think they might follow the format of 4x08 broadly in Rick’s leaving and Beth returning. (HERE) Anything to do with the Gov or 4x08 could tie into that idea. I know that’s super-broad and there’s no way to know if I’m right or wrong until S9 airs, but seeing stuff like this just makes me think that will be the case.

(Of course it also doesn’t hurt that we see Daryl and Beth leave the prison together twice. 😉)

So we should be looking at, well, all the episodes in these marathons, really, and asking why this episode is important enough to make it into the lineup. But we should especially ask it of the repeats.

Switching gears slightly, I want to mention quickly some of the episodes in the Best of the Governor lineup that I’m side-eying.

Walk With Me was obviously the intro to the Gov, so it makes sense to have it in the line up. But it’s also the return of Merle, who had been assumed dead for two seasons, and also the helicopter accident. Remember, we’ll be seeing a helicopter in S9. (X)

Made to Suffer is perhaps the most suspicious to me. Of all the episodes, it’s the only one that made it into three different marathons, so it MUST be important.

1) This is where Sasha and Tyreese are introduced. 

Anyone remember why that’s so important. As I said HERE, when we first meet Sasha, we learn that she is perfectly okay with leaving people behind if it serves the others in the group. She uses survival and logic to make decisions, rather than emotion. When we first meet her, she encourages Tyreese to leave an injured member of their group behind so the rest can escape. We think that will play heavily into what happened during the 17 missing days after Coda. Sasha had a lot of guilt over something and we saw it come out in 5x16. So I’m really side-eyeing the fact that they’re showing this episode three times throughout the marathon.

2) Maggie and Glenn are interrogated by the Gov. This is important because, over the years, we’ve found a lot of parallels between their imprisonment at Woodbury and Beth’s at Grady.

3) We don’t get much of Beth in this episode, but we do get a little, and what we see is suspicious. This is the episode where Axel hits on Beth and Carol gets after him for it. When he asks, Beth tells him how old she is. Granted, she’s only 17 here, but this is the only episode where they directly address her age. I’m really side-eyeing that. We know S4 was roughly a year (a little less) after this, and chances are when she shows up again, another year will have passed. It’s like they’re really emphasizing her age here. You know, for some reason. ;D

4) We also saw the Shane hallucination in this episode when Rick and Daryl rescue Glenn and Maggie. Nothing to do with Beth, but chances are we’ll see another Shane vision in S9, which just proves my point about the reasons they might be emphasizing this episode.

Moving onto other episodes.

Welcome to the Tombs:

Once again, this is a big Governor episode, but remember that he walks into a cell at the prison and reads a scripture about the resurrection of righteous. The Governor was not a good man, and will therefore NOT get to be resurrected on the show. Beth on the other hand…

You can read the details of this HERE, but remember that this was the episode where Gimple took over. He re-wrote a lot of this episode, including Andrea’s death and put in the big where Carl shot the Woodbury kid. That was still in play with Carl’s death as recently as 8x08. I believe Gimple put in this bit with the resurrection scripture to show that the resurrection theme would be a more literal part of the story moving forward.

There would be a resurrection of at least three major characters. Remember St. Nicholas and the Pickles story? (X, X). I’ve gone round and round about who the three resurrections represent in the show. I now believe it to be Beth, Glenn and Rick. We just couldn’t have even conceived of that before knowing AL was leaving the show for a time.

I’m not going to talk about the Governor’s S4 episodes in this post. Too much to say and this post is already long. I’ll try to do a post specifically about those episodes later in the week. (If I have time.)

One last thing and I’ll shut up for today.

I’ve been thinking about parallels between Beth and the Gov, and formatting. I’ve asked the question before, why use the Gov to do Beth parallels? I mean, there are TONS of them and they’re very strong. And it was obviously a purposeful decision on the writers’ parts to make his character be similar to Beth’s and do such strong parallels in his back story in 4x06-4x07. 

But why use him specifically to do that, especially when he and Beth never had any particular interaction, he’s a villain, and he really doesn’t seem to have been relevant since 4x08. I just figured it must have been convenient to use his character to foreshadow her since he disappeared, was presumed dead, and then returned. I suppose since the same will be true of her, it was only natural to use his character to foreshadow her. But now, if they use something similar to the Gov’s departure to bring her back when Rick leaves, it just makes even more sense.

So, what if they do the same thing with her as they did with the Gov? Maybe we’ll catch a glimpse of her in episode 5, to make the audience gasp, and then the next two episodes will be her back story, before the MSF where all the tragedy and drama goes down. That might explain why we have a “best of the Governor” marathon, and why we’re seeing Too Far Gone twice.

I really don’t think whatever happens with Rick will happen until the MSF. Yeah, yeah, I know he only filmed 6 episodes and spoilers are reporting for other episodes, but we know they generally don’t film in order, and if two of the first 8 are about Beth (and we strongly suspect all that back story was already filmed in previous seasons) then Andrew would only have had to film 6 episodes’ worth for 9a anyway.

Oh, and has everyone seen this from the spoilers site?

Lol. Who called it? It has nothing to do with guesswork or wishful thinking or TD being geniuses. It’s just interpreting the symbolism and foreshadowing. Plain and simple. (Or complicated and convoluted. Whatever. 😉)

Hi, my name is Tiara Syafitri Putri. I have a lot of nicknames, every school that i’ve gone to always give me a new nickname. Mulai dari SD orang2 mostly manggil aku tiara/tir tapi sejak kelas 4 SD temenku ngasih panggilan Titarax, udh kaya kalpanax aja nama w, i know it’s super riddiculous nickname yg akupun gatau alesannya kenapa dia manggil aku itu. Katanya biar keren aja, yaa you know lah anak-anak SD pinggiran jaman-jaman alay kaya apaan.

Next, when i was in junior high. I’ve got a crush on someone named Ghalib. Idk why but i’m always attracted to someone that has been labeled as “the fun guy” orang yang selalu dianggap sebagai penghidup suasana yang selalu bisa aja bikin semua orang ketawa atau join in the convo. Someone just like you ehe. Yaa long story short, meskipun sempet hampir di tembak di Taman Lalu Lintas kemudian akhirnya gajadi, tau-tau minggu depannya doi jadian sama orang lain. This guy give me a nickname “Teteh Tiara” dan yaa jadi ada beberapa temen SMP ku yang sampe sekarang kalo ketemu manggilnya “Teteeehh” kecuali  4 dari 6 sahabat2ku waktu SMP manggilnya tetep ti/tir.

Annnd this is the last nickname that i have from when i was in high school. Well you actually already know the story. The nickname is Botir alias bocah tiara/bola tiara karna temen-temenku waktu kelas X menganggap aku kaya bocah pas lari-lari dan aku bulat katanya, padahal waktu itu aku belum segendut skrg lol.

Okay enough about nicknames, aku lahir di Bandung tgl 1 Februari 1997 di RS Boromeus, jam 18.30an dan dulu hampir dinamain Maghribi karna lahirnya pas maghrib. Untung tidak jadi. Nama Tiara itu diambil dari nama Ibu + ayah, ti dari tuti arnya dari suharto, a di akhir cuman imbuhan aja biar ada jejak sundanya katanya karna kalo nama kakakku jawa bgt. Aku punya kakak 1 orang, namanya Tito Septianhadi Putra, dia 3 tahun diatasku yg mana kelahiran 94 berarti. And he was born on the same month as you, 21st of September to be exact. He had a girlfriend named Sariva dipanggilnya ipeh, and she’s younger than me karna dia kelahiran 98 which is why i never call her “ka”

Ujung-ujungnya w bahas nama lagi he maafkan. 

Rumahku di kompleks pharmindo yg mana cuman 3 km jaraknya dari rumah kamu, used to live in Jl Borobudur 5 no 8A yang kemarin aku liatin di google street. But there are few things that might cause my family to move from there dalam waktu dekat. Let’s pray that the new place won’t be far from here so we can still say that we live close to each other.

Now it’s gonna be about the stages of life that i’ve been through. Schools.

Aku TK di TK dayanusa tahun 2001an mungkin, been offered to go straight to elementary school but i reject it because my brother goes there for 2 years, and i simply wanna go through the same thing as him. I used to adore him so much tho back then. Meskipun sampe skrg juga i still adore him, tapi udh ngga sampe yang memaksakan harus melewati fase hidup yg sama persis kaya dia.

SD di SDN Tunas Harapan 2003 - 2009, this is where all the drama happens. You can read one of my posts in here for more details. Because this drama have been the root of my trust issue and the problem that i’m always having when i’m making new friends, and how to maintain everything with an old friend.

SMPku di SMPN 2 Bandung 2009 - 2012, been the greatest time of my life. Bahkan sekarang aku sampe mikir apa jangan-jangan golden age aku itu waktu jaman smp ini??? Karena everything is so great in here, temen-temennya, kehidupannya, kerajinan akunya. I really love those times. Ada drama pun emang drama kehidupan yg mostly ttg love life tai kucing tapi SERU ABIISSS.

SMA as you already know it di SMAN 3 Bandung 2012 - 2015, not really much of a great time karna hidupku dipenuhi dengan belajar - bimbel - belajar. Dan disini kayanya masa-masa love life ku kaya tai alias yaudah gitu-gitu aja dan pernah jadi periode terlama bgt dimana aku ngga deket sama cowo sama sekali.

Terakhir, one of the mess that’s causing everything turns out to the current situation.

Unchpad, almamaterku tercinta~ the place where i actually might meet you in real life. Aku salah satu member di FK Unpad angkatan 2015. Lulus S1 tahun 2019 bulan Februari, dan selesai belajar disini 2021 Februari kemarin. Dan sekarang aku sedang menjalani masa pre-internship di RS Siloam. 

You know what, after i wrote all this things down, my mind got clearer about the reason why i’m not trying to stop all the lies that i’ve been telling you from the start. One of the reason is that because your brother is also a doctor, and i admit that i’m such a coward because i’m afraid that you might not wanting to be friends with me if you know that i’ve been lying about few things.

The reason why i lie about my batch or age, goblok bgt emang gue, alesan gue sesimpel karna gue mau mencoba fit in sama lo semua waktu di unpadfess. Karna waktu pertama gue join dan ngobrol sama orang orang, ada salah satu yg join angkatan 14 dan jadinya itu ditreat sangat dituakan gitu. Terus waktu perkenalan kan kita hanya ngasih clue ttg prabu angkatan kita. Aku bilang “prabu dengan abah iwan” karna kukira yg ada abah iwannya angkatan aku doang. Ternyata di 2017 pun prabunya ada abah iwan. Dan yaa kegoblokan dan ketololan gue, adalah gue mikir yaudah iya iya aja dah, belum tentu juga gue bakal temenan atau ketemu sama orang orang disini.

I never thought that you will stay by my side till this point lang. Back when you said that “yaudahlah ya ra kita gini dulu aja sampe enek” my mind keep telling me that after all of that you’ll leave in like probably 2 weeks at most. So by Nancy reassuring Steve here, do you mean that she’s reassuring him that her sending Jonathan pics doesn’t mean she’s rejecting Steve? Or does it mean she’s reassuring him that if he says no she won’t think Steve is against including Jonathan? I really want to understand your view more cuz this scenario is so cute and like…we can keep talking about it…cuz i love it…. *hopeful face*

Hey Shauana, have you got any tips for pacing out a multichapter fic?

Oh man, Anon I don’t know. I’m the person who never intends to write multichapters and then ends up doing it anyway. And then Plot happens and they go and get long…

But! I do have some thoughts. Or at least, I can tell you what I do. You can try this, or you can find some way that works better for you. Writing anything at all is a very individual thing, and writing multichapter fics is perhaps most of all.

SO, what do I do?

(Note: All the stories named have links included in their titles).

Well, it’s that thing that everyone would probably counsel against. I write the first two or three chapters to ground myself in the fic. This is probably why the pacing in early parts of things I write can be a little off. It’s particularly noticeable in Running Through the Rain, mostly because for the first two chapters I was still working on the thought it would be in the same style as Flashes of a Lifetime Together. How very wrong that thought was.

After I have those initial chapters out of the way, I make a little list of the main things that have to happen. This helps too in figuring out how to get from point A to points B, C, and D. Then I make a more detailed list, breaking it down chapter-by-chapter, working out new events to throw in so everything doesn’t seem to be happening too fast. This part is ¾ based on gut instinct, and the other ¼ is straight-up wish fulfilment and things I would like to see. Hence that seen of Henry stitching up the stabbed gambler in the latest chapter of RTtR. Consumptive medical men at work? That is so much my jam. And was definitely one of my favourite bits of Doc, and later of Epitaph. Epitaph is actually a really excellent book when it comes to pacing and scene-setting.

The key thing is: Never plan all of your chapters at once.

I cannot stress this enough. You will want to change things. You will think of new events to happen, and decide that some of the original ones don’t suit or belong somewhere else. One of the convos that was going to take place in the next RTtR chapter is being put off to much later, partially for effect and partially because it just fits better at a latter stage.

After I write the first two chapters, I only plan as far as chapter 10, because I know I’m going to deviate from the plan. And it is so much easier to revise a short-term plan than it is to revise a long-term one. And be prepared to constantly revise your plan, sometimes after every chapter, sometimes after every two chapters. The more you revise the plan, the more the pacing comes together.

Once I get within two or three chapters of what I’ve planned, I work out the next bunch of chapters. It’s a constant cycle of plan, write, revise the plan, and it’s mostly based on instinct and what feels right.

If you can at all, write a bunch of chapters at once. Just get a batch of 5 or 7 chapters out of the way without posting any of them, and then you can thoroughly edit each chapter before you post it, or revisit them after you change something and that helps polish it. When I was writing Wraiths of Wandering, I wrote the first 10 chapters in the space of a few days. Then my thesis got in the way, and it was 6 weeks or more before I could get back posting, but in that time so much of what I had planned had changed, and it was easy to go back and re-work the unposted chapters than it would have been to write them from scratch.

So: Write ahead, but give yourself plenty of time to change your mind and re-work.

I wrote the last 10 or 12 chapters of Wraiths in a similar way, and when I was posting them I realised there was something missing, and had to write another chapter and a half to fix the pacing and keep it from being rushed. But if I hadn’t written ahead and hadn’t given myself time, I might never have realised that problem. In fact, it’s some of the later additional scenes I wrote that are the most powerful (in my opinion) and remain my favourites. Writing those later scenes, my brain had had more time to mull over the story and what it was lacking, whereas if I hadn’t written ahead the whole thing would have had so much less heart.

Writing ahead will help you clarify your thoughts, and see where things are missing that you can add to improve your pacing.

So much of pacing is down to how you wrote your plan, and don’t be afraid of editing your plan and dropping things from it or moving them around. But so much of it too is down to editing what you have written, and it’s by doing the two of them together that I manage pacing.

I was tagged by @tottwritesfanfic and it’s an excuse to talk about fanfic. Let's do this!

1. How did you come up with your username and what does it mean?

Uh. Um. Since I am an Old, this username has existed since forever, and acquiring it involved a goth themed IRC chat room and some virtual naked table dancing. The Lethe refers to the River of Oblivion in ancient Greek Underworld mythology, because again, I was Very Goth at the time. I'd… I'ma leave it at that.

2. Which fanfic of yours has the most feedback? (bookmarks/subscriptions/hits/kudos).

It's Shimizu Kiyoko, because I still mostly write Haikyuu, and because she's awesome (and I, too, wish to be awesome).

4. Do you have any regular/favourite commenters?

I'd rather not name names, but I met at least one of my friends through AO3 comments. There's also a commenter whose style I liked so much that I started copying it for comments on other people's work. I absolutely notice when people drop by regularly, and I love every one of those people. I try to follow them back. There are few feelings more rewarding to me as a writer than seeing someone like one of my stories, and then go through the other ones I wrote for that fandom.

 5. Is there a fanfic that you keep going back to read again and again?

I don't regularly re-read fics, because I have enough trouble keeping up with fiction I feel like I *should* be reading. In that sense, the ones I keep going back to are the long ones I'm subscribed to. Bell, book and candle is my go-to plane fic for when I'm travelling, for instance. It's a 1k page pdf on my phone and I try to go back and comment on the chapters I finished when I get to a computer (or like three months later, most likely).

6. How many stories are you subscribed to? How many do you have bookmarked?

*Opens statistics page* I don't so much subscribe to stories, as I do to people. And I'm apparently subscribed to 22 people. I have 33 bookmarks, but that's mostly because sometimes I'll go back through my history and bookmarks stuff that I still like a few months later.

7. Which AU do you find yourself writing the most?

Urban fantasy. That seems to be the AU where my mind goes into every single direction and comes back with 60k worth of words every time. Also, a disproportionate amount of characters in my fics end up being bakers or baristas. So, uh, make of that what you will.

8. How many people are subscribed and bookmarked to you in total? (you can view this on the stats page)

Um, I have 36 user subscriptions. 299 bookmarks. And 117 subscriptions to various fics.

9. Is there something you’d like to write about but are afraid of people judging you for it? (Feeling brave? If so, share it!)

Well, there's always stuff you come up with that maybe shouldn't be put to paper. When it comes to very self-indulgent, or very smutty, I try to stay my hand. I struggled a long time with whether or not I should publish any smut at all, because I don't want like… my colleagues to find it. What I ended up with, was several fail safes, and the promise to myself that I would only write… acceptable smut (so no werewolf orgies for you! not that I, uh, would write them otherwise).

10. Is there anything you would like to be better at? Writing certain scenes or genres, replying to comments, updating better, etc.

So, uh, the very specific reason I started writing smut at all, was because that is the hardest thing to do. For me. Sex is, a lot of the time, awkward and funny and feely and there's a lot of emotions and actions going on, and I very specifically do not want to write lifeless mechanical porn sex. Because that's not what I'm here for. But that's difficult. I write to have the kind of stuff I want to Read, and I'm very friggin picky when it comes to smut, so it takes me longer to write 1k of smut than it does to write 20k of teen rated fluff. I wish I was better on that front.

11. Do you write rarepairs or popular ships more often?

It's a mixed bag. I'm pretty sure me and @leeva-art  are the pioneers of all ShinToko content. And I did that whole SugaTen one. Looking through the list, I actually did a fair amount of rarepair shorts. I kinda like writing rarepairs because there's a lot more of the dynamic for me to explore.  But I'm currently writing a series full of popular ships (YamaYachi, DaiSuga, KageHina, IwaOi), because sometimes, those are popular for a reason. To be honest, I think the ship I write most is 'x reader', and I'm fairly certain that's an under-reported popular ship.

12. How many stories have you posted on AO3 to this day (finished and unfinished)?

I have 21 works on AO3 in total. All of those are finished one-shots or multichapters, except the one I'm currently working on. Yes, I'm proud of this :P.

13. How many stories do you have saved in/with your writing program?

Oh god. So apart from the current multichapter one I have… one longish romance story that's been gathering dust for two years (The Aomine. I swear I will finish it one day), and… about four smut shorts in various states of unfinished-ness. And an Aizawa short that is like smut in the sense that it's a lot of action and feels and I'm Struggling.

14. Do you write down story ideas, or just keep them in your head?

I do both. I'm a bit of a daydreamer, so I like to play ideas and scenarios in my head for a while, and then I jot them down when they've grown enough. But I'm also a talker, and anyone who has chatted with me for any length of time probably knows that an Idea can take root in a convo and I basically talk it out and two months later there's a massive fic brewing. My brain is an overexcited puppy.

15. Have you ever co-authored a story?

Nope. It's not that I don't want to, I'm just not sure how that would work practically.

16. How did you discover AO3?

It's all Rin's fault. I pretty much only got into fanfic after watching Free! and discovering the joys of tumblr. Fairly certain I discovered AO3 while looking for Quality SouRin.

17. Do you consider yourself to be a popular or famous author in your fandom(s) on AO3?

Ahahahaha…no.

18. Do you have a nickname or fandom name for your readers?

That would be weird? I'm not Lady Gaga.

19. Was there an author who inspired or encouraged you to write?

I've been writing since I was a little girl. So the first stories I wrote were probably inspired by that one teacher I had when I was eight, that kept saying I was good at this. But I remember in my teens, wanting to write like Anthony Horowitz, and later like Terry Prattchett, or Douglas Adams. As for writing fanfic, that is the fault of Aleramicci and A Shadow so Great. That was the first time I saw someone take that level of world building and lore creation and character development, and spin it into this… epic tale. Because I have always imagined scenarios and characters in my day dreams, I was creating alternate endings for the Three Musketeers at 13, but I didn't think anyone else was willing to read them. I thought fanfic was, well, smut. And she showed me that you can create worlds out of nearly nothing (please remember that 2014 League of Legends Lore was total shit), and do it Well, and write it well, and… ugh.

20. What writing advice would you give to a beginning author?

Ok, where's that meme. I think the main thing is… just do it. You've got stories, you write them. But know that it is work. Like every hobby, it takes time, it takes energy and effort. You need to Make that Time. Very few people can sit down and just have the words flow out of their fingers. For most, it's Work. Once you know that, and you make the conscious decision to do the work, you can get shit done.

21. Do you plot out your stories, or do you just figure it out as you go?

I try to plot up to a certain level but I leave room for a lot of improv. Like especially for longer fics, I'll have a vague idea of where the characters end up and what needs to happen for the finale to… happen. The actual scenes aren't plotted though. I write better when I just let the scene take me where it wants to go. I've learned a lot from the Lock, the Key and the Sacrifice, in that it was my first Very Long multichaptered fic and it was Mostly Improvised. This meant that some character development got lost, and that I had to write myself out of some weird situations but also, some of the best scenes in that fic are complete bursts of random inspiration. Since then, I've gotten a bit more organized. I use OneNote to jot down 'spur of the moment' scenes to slot into stories later, and to make time lines and character profiles and all that. The actual fic is still me opening the Word doc and going 'ok, it's day six in this story, what should happen today'.

22. Have you ever gotten a bad comment on a story? If so, what did you do?

I don't think so? AO3 readers are very nice and disciplined, I think. Either that or I've been very lucky. All I've gotten were a few comments that left me flustered, mostly along the lines of 'when are you updating', when I keep a very tight schedule. That sort of thing. I just leave those be.

23. Is there a certain type of scene that you have a hard time writing? (action, smut, etc..)

See above: smut.

24. What story(s) are you working on now?

Currently, My Girlfriend is a Goddess?!, which is a fantasy exchange gift that ballooned into a very long, multichapter and possibly trilogy book type thing.

25. Do you plan your next project(s) before you finish your current ongoing story(s)?

The Plan is to finish book one of My Girlfriend is a Goddess?! (the YamaYachi, aka the actual exchange gift), then take a break for some one-shots and whatnot, and then continue to book two (the DaiSuga one). So yes, I do try to stay somewhat disciplined. This isn't to say that inspiration can't strike like a vengeful god and I have to rearrange the whole thing. Chocolate Hearts happened while I was trying to work on the TenSuga, and it got written in like a month of furious typing. Shit just happens, man.

26. Do you have a daily writing goal set for yourself?

No. I have a very unstable work schedule, and sometimes I'm just tired. I try to get certain chapters finished on a weekly basis though. I learned with NaNo that when I try to write too much in one go, the output is also not that great. I need to write, and then do a whole bunch of editing, and then write again.

27. Do you think you’ve improved as a writer since you first started?

Things are certainly going smoother now than they did two years ago. It's a certain… confidence? I think? A rhythm you get into. I got wordier, too. Not sure if that's a good thing.

28. What is your favorite story that you’ve written?

This is hard. That is a hard question. For the longest time, my fave story was Balance. But if I read it now, it does show its age. So I'm going to say The lock, the key and the sacrifice. I will always be super proud of that, because that's my first and currently only 'book' and I worked a year and a half on it. Not every part of it is amazing, but there's some Pretty Good Parts and I just felt such an immense relief and… satisfaction on finishing it.

29. What is your least favorite story that you’ve written?

One of the first things I published was an Iwaizumi smut short. It's… ok, but it has some issues that I would iron out if I were to write it again.

30. Where do you see yourself (as a writer) in 5 years?

When I was little I had this Plan to write a bestseller and sell it to Hollywood and then buy a castle in Scotland and basically be JK Rowling, but I sincerely doubt that's going to happen. Goals, tho.

31. What is the easiest thing about writing?

Coming up with random shit that blossoms into big, huge ideas and worlds and complicated plot lines. Like… that happens without me trying.

32. What is the hardest thing about writing?

The bit where you sit down to write through a part you've been struggling with. Those few paragraphs that you need to connect scene A and scene B, for it to make logical sense.

33. Why do you write?

Because I like it. Because I enjoy building worlds and scenes and characters, and sharing them. Because like all kinds of creative work, it has gained me relationships and connections to people I resonate with. Also, ngl, for the kudos and the comments. I get a lot of joy from seeing people enjoying my work.

May Progress Update, and June Goals

6/1/2021  - I just want my goals to be “like last month” lol. But I realize its probably not gonna turn out that way.

My Chinese May goals were:

1. ***Read anything

I did this! Looking back though, a majority of what I read was actually the “hard” stuff on my list though lol. I read mostly Guardian, hanshe, and then I finished one of my easier extensive reading materials. I also read a random few chapters of a few things extensively, just testing things out (like Poyun, dmbj 1, svsss, dage, The Rebel, just a ton of random chapters).

Chinese chapters read (during May): 63 (unlike last month, this number isn’t inflated much - most were 5 page priest-level print reading or 15-20 pages in Pleco reading on the phone, with ~5 hanshe 10-pages-in-pleco chapters so even cut down to my usual reading-length-chapters comparison this month would be ~60 chapters read)

Chinese stories finished (this year): 5 - 笑猫日记之会唱歌的猫 is the only one finished this month, with 3 (intensely long 55-pages-in-pleco) chapters read of  猫城记, intro skimmed of 许三观卖血记, intro skimmed of 撒野.

2. ***Continue listening to Chinese Spoonfed Audio 

I also managed to do this one! 20 audio listened to so far! (I think I’d listened to up to 12 of the files in April). So I listened to 8 this month  - yes, not a huge amount. But as there’s 36 or 39 files, I’m over halfway there!

3. Optional: experiment with Listening Reading Method. 

This is what I mean when I say I sideline off my intended study plan sometimes! I ended up doing some form of Listening Reading Method a TON this month. 

Guardian: 12 chapters*40 minutes each (roughly)=480 minutes= 8 hours Alice in Wonderland, other L R Method random chapters: 2 chapters (one 30 minutes, the other 80 minutes) =110 minutes= ~1.8 hours Silent Reading: 6 chapters, approximately 1.5 hours. SVSSS: 1 chapter, 10 minutes = ~0.2 hours  (I only did step 2 with this - chinese audio with chinese text, I am debating if I want to bother with step 3 as I can follow the story fine)

~11.5 hours spent doing Listening Reading this month (steps 1-2). Also including random audio I’ve listened to throughout the month, mostly repeated listens of L-R’d chapters but also other things, in a previous post I calculated to be: 22.8 total hours listening to L-R material. Then add more hours of listening to random things in the background, and its up to ~30ish hours total listening this month. This is by far the most dedicated listening I’ve done in a month.

With just what I’ve done so far of increasing my listening, and doing L-R more, I’ve seen good improvements. So I want to keep trying. I checked a few novels and there’s a lot I should be able to do this with (especially since with using Pleco for the translation for step 3, I do not specifically require either a translation or a parallel text). I also have tried some variants of using listening/reading to study japanese and French this month which I’ll talk more about a little below - and those variants were fun and pretty effective too!

4. Other optional: listen to misc audio, watch shows, read Alan Hoenig’s Chinese Characters, do some of my Radical-hanzi book.

Hilarious to me? Maybe so? I actually ended up doing a surprising amount of this I guess? Kudos to me - I think I did my whole study plan I made for once? Although honestly I barely did any reading-only until like May 20th.

I listened to almost 10 hours of misc audio at LEAST (see above) - any chance to listen to some chinese and I did (although with 30ish days in a month I probably can find ways to do more). I watched pieces of shows - half of 2 episodes in Viki Learn Mode (Granting You a Dreamlike Life, Guardian), and some random Reaction Videos in chinese so ~5 ish episodes as far as lengths of stuff watched. I read 28 pages of Alan Hoenig’s Chinese Characters book this month (not a lot of pages but its something - also I put it on my phone which definitely increased my ease to open and read it randomly). I think I did a couple pages of my hanzi book (but I decided to put that back on the shelf and stop prioritizing it).

Chinese stuff done in May that wasn’t on the study plan:

Practiced some pronunciation/shadowing with my apps (maybe 2 hours total but its something). Also hearing more from others really makes me think I want to try more shadowing particularly of audiobooks and/or certain characters in dramas, to specifically get better at my own speaking when in sentences.

had my first convo in chinese where I was understood, without prep time to help my active vocab or correct myself (so that was super exciting). Also texted a bit in chinese this month but not really much just real basic stuff.

while I said I only ‘watched’ around 5 eps worth of content, I did a lot of ‘listening’ this May. Just in the sense of like - when I did watch shows with english subs (which I did a bit) I made an effort to specifically grasp what I was hearing (actually trying to listen only, then replay and glance at eng and chinese subs to figure out any unknonw words). Because of that I only watched a few show episodes this month (and its why I switched to Viki learn mode so I could just click to replay audio/get definitions). And in viki, although I only watched about 1/2 of each of the 2 eps, I relistened to each piece of dialogue until I both understood all words in the line when seeing the chinese subs AND could listen to the line without looking and understand all the words (so ‘intensive’ show listening). So those ‘20′ minutes of each ep took me more like 1 hour each. Since I kept replaying and replaying each scene. I read someone on Reddit did this ‘intensive’ show listening activity and it improved their listening/speaking a LOT, so I tried doing it a bit. If you’re using Viki Learn Mode or Learn Languages with Netflix extension I do recommend trying it, since its very easy with those tools. But doing it on youtube like I did at first, with shows just replaying scenes? It would’ve been easier for me to just take off my glasses to not see the chinese subs and try to listen lol. 

My Japanese goals this May were:

1. ***Continue: Nukemarine’s LLJ courses

AHAHAH! Ok so last month I marked this as the PRIORITY (and I was right)! Guess what I did absolutely none of this month? (Or at least, if I did, it was 400 crammed reviews of previously studied flashcards then not actually doing any new content lol). I... just was not in the mood to do srs flashcard study.

2. Hopefully: Continue some kind of grammar explanation 

I also marked this as priority. Past me was wise. Past me, I do not listen to well all the time. This was a mixed back - genuinely, I think my thoughts back in April remain true: finishing either Tae Kim (unlikely but i was at chapter 10 before), Cure Dolly (i’m on 6), Japanese Audio Lessons Grammar, Japanese in 30 Hours while writing japanese in (I’m on page 24) - will result in a good foundation and is a priority.

What did I actually do?

I read more Japanese in 30 Hours (I’m now at page 60 and 1/3 through it). I will probably finish it in June. I also read a smattering of random stuff, and “Reading Japanese” a book I have to learn reading skills specifically (not grammar). My guiding principle ended up being: just read/study whatever you want, follow your interest, its better than doing nothing. For May, that worked out pretty ok to be honest and I’ll probably continue that principle in June.

3. Optional: Reading in any form and Optional: listening in any form

Strangely I did a surprisingly high amount of this for someone who didn’t plan to?

I found the site Wasabi Japanese - and experimented with their Read Aloud lessons (Yue-muffin linked to a bunch of graded japanese resources here which included Wasabi Japanese). My opinion: I LOVE their lessons, I love the structure, I love that they have a free grammar guide course to go through (which I’d like to read after Japanese in 30 Hours). Their lessons go from N4-N3, which is a good spot for me to learn, and the way they teach is a bit like Listening-Reading Method and a bit like Re-Reading Technique (video by PolyMathy) which I’ve linked to before. 

Their lessons have really nice instructions, which amount to: 1. Listen to the audio several times or even dozens, trying to grasp what all the sounds are/understand what you can. 2. Read transcript with audio to fully match audio to actual words and look up any unknown words. 3. Re-listen with and without transcript until you feel you’re hearing all the words okay. 4. Shadow the audio a few times with/without transcript. 

As you can see, its a lot like L-R Method and Re-Reading Technique, with a lot of emphasis on listening and shadowing. I did it and I feel even just with one lesson I could tell my listening skill was improving a significant amount. When I have more time I want to dedicate to japanese, I’d definitely like to go through all of Wasabi Japanese lessons - I think they’re really cool. I also used their lesson-structure, and applied it to listening to a few eps of the podcast “Slow Chinese” which I think was very effective. So I really think their site is worth checking out at LEAST to read their article How to Proceed with the Read Aloud Method, so you can apply it to your own study materials more if you want. I’m definitely considering applying this study method to Nukemarine’s memrise courses, stuff I might listen to in the future etc.

As for other small japanese stuff I did - just a lot of ‘random manga chapters read, random small lessons done’ sort of stuff. Here’s what I wrote a week ago:  I read 3-4 manga chapters, 50 pages of a 160 page grammar book, listened to a short story several times and studied it, read a short story chapter (very short though), read 3 very small graded readers, read a page of parasite eve. In addition to that, I know I watched a few bits of lets plays and just in general tried to read a bit of japanese here and there.

All in all I probably only did 5-10 hours of japanese study this month, so not much. The bulk of it was probably reading Japanese in 30 Hours. But I did find stuff I like learning from, which is always nice. And japanese isn’t the priority right now. 

French goals from May:

***Continue watching Le Francais Par Le Methode Nature videos. 

I did this - 6 chapters out of 50 total. I do think it helps, I actually studied them doing the Re-Reading Technique linked above - since the guy used Lingva Latina to demonstrate so I figured it would be a perfect to do with a similarly structured French book. Also just listening to 10 chapter’s audio while out walking. Just kind of refreshing my memory.

Idk I read a few random pages, French not a priority rn. I do plan to read Carmilla in June though.

Next Month’s Goals!

I want to stick to a pretty similar plan tbh, this past month’s worked well. I don’t know how much will get done though, I’ve got a lot happening lately.

Chinese June Goals:

1. Read! - this goal I’ve been able to consistently do, so I’m gonna keep it. Would like to do some extensive reading with easier novels (猫城记, 许三观卖血记, 撒野), and some intensive reading with stuff like hanshe still. However whatever I read, is good to me.

2. Continue listening to Chinese Spoonfed Audio - if I just keep doing this I’ll be happy. Would like to get to a point where I’m just playing it in the background when I work, so I can both finish it and get some repetition-review from hearing more chinese (and some increased comprehensible listening practice each day). But we’ll see - I had success the past couple months playing it in the bg while I played video games. Its just as audiobooks/audio dramas/condensed show audio get easier to comprehend, they’re obviously more interesting to listen to in the background lol.

3. Listening Reading Method - this went real well in May, and I want to keep doing it (and its fine if I only do step 2 sometimes tbh). Would like to keep doing Guardian specifically (but any novel done will be good). I would love to have Listen-Read all of Guardian by the end of August (and in a dream world also have read the entire print novel!). If I can do that, then it means by year 2 I will have read and listened to the novel that originally pushed me to study chinese. Which would just be really really cool to me ;-; It will also mean that by 2 years in I will have finished reading a book by priest (and again the book that got me into the author ToT), so I can start reading future books by priest with hopefully a LOT more vocabulary I know specifically tailored to making those books easier to read. 

When I started learning, I had guessed it would take 4 years to even struggle through priest chapters slowly with a dictionary - since I was guessing chinese would take me around as long as japanese to hit milestones (and 2.5 years of japanese was when I just barely started grasping simple manga with a dictionary). So already everything I do with listening and reading in chinese blows my mind a bit, just because I never thought I would even get Here, let alone here in this amount of time. Its not perfect by any means, but its much better than I’d assumed it was gonna take (which probably says a lot about how much more per day I studied and how much more effectively I studied chinese compared to japanese, if I had to guess WHY it took so much less time). So yeah, reading Guardian is a really big goal of mine. And yes - jumping on that, I’d also love to rewatch the show at the 2 year mark without english subtitles. And I don’t want to rewatch until I’ve read the novel because I tend to mix up details lol if I do both at the same time ToT

Practical goal for June: L-R Method Guardian to the end of the sundial arc, and read print novel to end of sundial arc. IDEAL goal for June: also L-R Method Guardian to the end of the 2nd arc, and read print novel to the end of the 2nd arc - and ideally that puts me finishing the first print volume in June. God mode goal for June: L-R Method ALL of Guardian (reading print novel can happen slower cause no way that’s happening in 1 month lol - I say that and now watch it happen cause I said it wouldn’t lol). 

I’ve calculated it before so here it is again: Guardian audiobook is about 35 hours, so 70 hours to finish L-R Method steps 2-3. Add in time to read the english translation (step 1) lets add 8 more hours (probably would take me 2-5 hours to finish the english but I’m being generous). I’ve done 12 chapters already which is 8 hours. So I’ve got 70 hours left to do. If I did 2-3 hours of L-R a day (or on average), I could finish the novel in June. Like 1 hour Mon-Fri (20 days = ~20 hours), and 5 hours each weekend day (10 days = ~50 hours). That would have me finishing around July. However... that’s unrealistic lol. Now if for half the days per month (15) I could do 4-5 hours a week (the other days doing nothing), I could get done by the end of June. So like... realistically either I get super into Guardian and do a lot in a couple weeks (in which case its totally possible to finish just like I managed to watch ~60 eps of Love and Redemption, ~40 hours, in like 4 days because I was so into that show). I’m starting to get why the writer of L-R Method tended to do this in a focused burst for 8-10 hours a day for a couple weeks - much easier to make the time, if you’re just super into it for a short period of time. Its much harder to make a few hours to do this for multiple months (also why I think a lot of ppl did HP when testing this method, since the 1st audiobook is like 9 hours total so its only 18 hours to L-R the whole book). So I guess... either I get super into Guardian, or I might only get through the 1st-2nd arc by end of June. We’ll see.

Also... what a cool experiment it would be... to see where my listening and reading skills would be at after the whole book. And that’s without the shadowing/translation steps 4 and 5 which I’d like to try eventually lol.

4. Optional - do anything in chinese, shows, manhua, misc audio. My new feelings are: if I feel like doing something, I might as well do it as its better than nothing.

Japanese June Goals:

Finish reading Japanese in 30 Hours - or any other thing that strikes your interest. My new feeling for japanese study is just doing anything I feel like is better than nothing lol. (But grammar guide is still priority)

Continue Nukemarine’s Courses - if I can get into srs flashcards, if not don’t worry just keep remembering its ultimately a priority. (vocab priority)

Optional - whatever I want in japanese, shows, manga, lets plays, video games, reading scripts, wasabi japanese lessons, my Reading Japanese book etc. If I feel like doing something go ahead and do it tbh. (Long term I’ll want audio study to replace Chinese Spoonfed Audio though, like Core 2k audio files or Japaneseaudiolessons files, to study listening skills).
