Elf Genders, by Lucian Kahn.

Elf Genders is a worldbuilding tool for creating your own new systems of fantasy genders. Most humans are women, men, or nonbinary, but maybe elves are… something else? Elf Genders helps you decide what!

This is not an rpg, but if you want to fuck with the genders of your fantasy game, this is a great place to start. This is a game session (or sessions, if you get really into it) to help you establish a setting and lore details of your elven folk, and what gender means for an elf. If you or your game group already have a game in mind, this is definitely worth looking at.

AetherNet, by Legendary Vermin.

The Internet as we know it ceased to exist after The Incursion, and in its place the sprawling Virtual Hyperreality of the Æthernet stretches horrible and festering in every direction. Plumb its depths in search of riches, miracles and ruins that the keepers of the mundane world will pay heartily for, just beware of the Daemons and UNGODS waiting for you in its depths, hoping to bend and shape your flesh to their own ends.

Make a character in seconds, ruin them for hours. The Player Book contains the minimum essential rules and setting information, and the Ref's Handbook fills in the other rules and tables you need to run the game.

The game itself takes place in a dystopian cyberpunk future where magic and technology are connected - and dangerous. There is actually a section in AetherNet titled “Genders” that asks you to roll 1d2 (or flip a coin) and roll a d6. This will give you one out of 12 options for your gender, which include options such as “a daemon bound you into a pact” or “once, you were a ship or space station and its crew”. Your Gender can also be changed or corrupted as you play, gaining qualities such as “without fear” or “too persuasive.” This is the most wild example of gender I’ve seen in a game so far, and I definitely recommend you check it out.

Sleepaway, by Possum Creek Games.

Sleepaway gives us long hazy days, chilled summer nights, kids screaming and chasing fireflies, crackling campfires, and a gaunt, cruel monstrosity forever hiding just out of sight, always asking, “What do you do next?”

In Sleepaway, you play as a group of camp counselors at a not-so-ordinary summer camp besieged by a strange and ominous cryptid, the monstrous Lindworm. It is a GMless horror game for 3-6 players, which uses the Belonging Outside Belonging system created by Avery Alder and Ben Rosenbaum. In it, players take control of not only their characters (which include archetypes like the Lifeguard, the Songleader, the Crafter, or the Athlete) but also the world around them, picking up Setting Elements to react to their friend's decisions. As the game goes on, the players also invite the Lindworm to play with them, causing horrific events to callously occur throughout the place space.

A Belonging Outside Belonging game, Sleepaway is a game that can be played without a GM, because each player will pick up a setting element sheet and be responsible for it throughout game play. This is the closest to what I was looking for when it came to gender, because your characters have gender options such as “A Robin,” and “A Particular Colour.” The game itself is a great setting to explore danger and liminal spaces, as summer camps are excellent places for self-discovery, as they take place away from your typical surroundings. Also, Possum Creek Games has a well-deserved reputation for making games that play well and make you feel something. You should definitely check it out.

Dear trans people (mostly directed to transfems)

Because there is a disproportionately high ratio of transfems to any other gender on the internet, sometimes it can feel other issues get drowned out, like the frighteningly high amount of SA/rape cases against transmascs, or the blatant discrimination of intersex people in alot of communities (even the trans ones!!!) or the rigid enforcement of this whole skinny androgynous elf stereotype being pushed on the nonbinary gender(s), or the predatory marketing of chest binders to ignorant people with breasts, or a myriad of other issues that i see go ignored a concerning amount of times. Yes, transfem issues are real issues that need to be addressed, yes TERFS and bathroom bills and sports and other things are problematic for transfems but they arent only problematic for transfems. Intersex and non binary people are also seen as problematic in the eyes of transphobes, transmascs compete in the wrong gender because people refuse to accept who they are, basically all of the community is fetishized. These problems are real and encompass the uphill struggle some trans people face (including transfems) to even have their existence and humanity acknowledged. The only way to win in this sick and twisted fame that is public perception, we need to stand as a community, which means respecting one another’s needs and listening.

Also a more specific issue: When knowingly commenting on someone who is trans, and saying something like “omg i wish i had your body your [body part] is/looks so [traditionally masculine, feminine, and/or androgynous feature]” directed at someone trying to transition out of said gender (for example a transfem commenting on a transmasc “oh my god i wish i had your body your hair is so long and femme and your hips are so effeminate” can be extremely dysphoria inducing, as pointing out an effeminate part of someone trying to become a man and vice-versa can hurt on a visceral level, a notion that you wont change and youre just what your body is. This is not to say transmascs must only be big strong hairy dudebros, be whatever the fuck you want, be a god damn 1:1 human replica of a fucking pokemon for all i care. Imagine someone walked up to a transfem and said “omg i love your shoulders theyre so broad and manly” that’s not okay right? (my previous statement about style also applies to transfems)

- Alucard: "He's a cunt, but he's entertaining. I'd probably pay to see him in a strip club. I didn't like him and his shit-eating grin and 'master' bullshit at first, but he grew on me quick and i don't like that he grew on me. He's a complex character, and he's hot asf when he cries. Also I wish we'd seen his Dracula form for longer; that was awesome. Him and Anderson had a thing going on."

- Seras: "Didn't really mind her at first, but liked her after she drank blood. Her transformation and the guns are really fucking cool. I didn't like her voice and her whining at first but it got better after a few episodes. I like her when her personality became a little bit more spunky. Her story's fucked up."

- Integra: "Absolute bad bitch. Her attitude reminds me of myself so idk if I should like it or hate it, she's got a lot of pride which I respect. Really human and I like it, she takes no one's shit and she's a badass. Didn't even FLINCH when she got her eye shot out. Girlboss. She gives me ace vibes also."

- Walter: "I liked him, he was funny. And then he betrayed everyone and became emo. He gave good advice, and he was cool as hell with that wise older veteran vibe. I'm disappointed in him, but the plot twist was actually good. You'd notice the signs if you suspected him from the beginning."

- Pip: "He's FINE. I'd braid his hair any day. I was in love and then I mourned. I'm widowed. He was hilarious, plus his voice actor nailed the French. My favorite character. Screeched when he came back. He's a good leader and I loved his speeches, also his death made me cry. And I don't often cry when watching anime."

- Anderson: "kinda neutral. I didn't like him at first, he was obnoxious as fuck. Then he respected women and opposed Maxwell and his orders so he grew in my esteem a bit. His character is cool as fuck tho. I wish he didn't turn into a monster, he fell to the same level as Alucard. It's like human greed or desperation for power. Him and Alucard had a thing going on."

- Enrico Maxwell: "Lucius Malfoy. I hate him but not the one I hate most."

- Heinkel & Yumie: "Really like these two lesbians. So cool and I respect their resolve, especially Heinkel's. Rip Yumi. You were cool. Heinkel being intersex is a dope detail, she's very androgynous too. I like their designs."

- The major: "Augustus Gloop? I like the fact he refused vampirism, that was cool, but he's an actual fucking sociopath and I hate him"

Overall: A hit, neither of us expected her to like it. She likes the political and literary aspects, and also finds the characters interesting. She doesn't really know how to feel about the ending; she considers it realistic and a good end, but she wished it was more epic. But from a writing perspective it's good. Also she lowkey wished Alucard would turn Integra into a vampire, just because it would be cool. Now we send each other memes about it. She calls Nendocard a whore when she passes by him, but says she'd buy a Pip nendo in a heartbeat

Honestly I was originally planning on having only 2 ocs specifically because I wanted one to kill the other in order to maintain the same group of survivors in the end lmao. I'm still trying to fully work out the setup and inevitable execution because the plot writing for dr2 is really tight and well progressed imo, so I feel like adding anything would weaken it-

BUT I'm also just having fun and being silly so I know it doesn't have to be perfect it just needs to let me have fun really lmao

I'll add a readmore but I'll ramble about each of them a little if anyone has any interest

First up is the first one I made, Haruka (forgive all of their basic bitch Japanese names, I can't do the fun wordplay to the level I wish) they're the ultimate ballerina, and by extension also nonbinary kind of feminine leaning androgynous but can be masc if needed because they can do any kind of role required of them for a performance

When they're tossed into the dr2 mix they'd probably be found being a third wheel to the dynamic duo that is Akane and Nekomaru, since they're also technically more athletic and would be stretching and practicing every day. I want to sit down sometime and draw them and Akane engaged in a flexibility battle and Kazuichi walking in on them and screeching because they look so creepy

Haruka is planned to be a murderer and I'll definitely get some drawings out once I flesh out my concepts for their execution more

Next up is Nao! She's the ultimate sharpshooter and yes that is a little vague but it's because this includes bows and such on top of typical guns. Hell, she probably even does well with throwing stuff if there's enough focus

With the dr2 cast she'd be mostly a friend to Ibuki and Kazuichi, their eccentricities are endearing to her, plus if either of them just want to ramble about something they're working on she's gonna listen for hours. Honestly they're such a movie night squad to me. Also post game I feel like she's like a girl in the same way I still see Kazuichi a guy, like in the vaguest terms cuz they're both just Themselves and are gonna have fun with it now since they're apart from society. Ibuki isn't included only since I feel like she'd struggle less, but this is the bi/pan gender fuckery trifecta of the group to me

Oh yeah and Haruka kills her. I've got the death already planned out and ideally I wanna do a cg style emulation for it but idk if I can swing it lmao I'm not very good at style emulation tbh

And last but not least is Tōru. I didn't plan on her existing so idk how I'm gonna get rid of her in time for the end hmm. But she's the ultimate tattoo artist and has the most fleshed out backstory of the three but it's embarrassing and I know it LMAO

Basic run down- and stick with me here- she lives with family that work under the Kuzuryu clan, so she's done a lot of sick yakuza tats, partially because of her skill and mostly because this shit is so good that her tattoos have like, an "aura" that influences the viewer a little. So these dudes have extra intimidating tattoo bullshit going on- BUT ANYWAYS so things start and she can recognize Fuyuhiko and Peko and knows what's up with them, but neither of them have officially met her so she's like "oh thank fuck they have no idea that I know who they are I'm gonna avoid these assholes like the PLAGUE"

But of course that won't hold forever but it just makes me laugh like chapter 3 Fuyuhiko trying desperately to be kinder to everyone like "yeah, maybe I'll see if you're good enough to tattoo me some day" and she's choking on her drink because Haha About That-

i have never been truly satisfied with who am i. since i was a little kid ive felt more comfortable using he/him pronouns, before i even knew what gender identity and pronouns truly were. sometimes i would wake up and the first thought that crossed my mind was "i really wish i was a man", those thoughts started to become less and less as the months went by, there were still there, but not as often as before.

then, i started listening to my chemical romance, and shit went downhill pretty quickly. now every day i wake up wishing i was anything except a woman, everyday i look in the mirror i can only focus on how my chest is not flat enough, everytime i see a cute guy i wish i was him.

I'm starting to like, legitimately question my gender again. I thought I was over this, but I read this manga series called "The gender of mona lisa". Let me explain.

It's about a world in which everyone is born without a sex - and without a gender. At the age of 12, they start developing physical traits that correlate with their gender. Some actively choose to become male or female, some don't really know and someday the development just starts.

The protagonist is still genderless at 17/18 years old and the series follows their journey to discovering themselves and finding out what living as male or female is about. The manga does such a good job of showing that nothing is strictly masculine or feminine, that no matter what you look like, you are still the same person. You don't just change because your body changes.

The manga has multiple alternative endings, showing what paths the protagonist may choose while living as male or female. I don't want to spoil too much, but there's a reason they have to choose. I truly believe that no matter what they chose, they are still genderless - just in a different body.

And let me tell you: this manga fucked me up hardcore.

I relate to the protagonist almost 100%. The struggles they have with "choosing a side", their experiments with gender expression to find out who they are, the way they feel pressured to conform while just wanting to be themselves. I found myself thinking "wow, I wish I would be like, completely androgynous when it comes to my body", and feeling so connected to this experience that when I was done, I felt so much that I basically felt nothing.

This messed me up so hard. I was already suspecting that maybe I'm not as male as I thought I was. For a while, actually. Because my connection to gender is mostly, if not fully, through external things instead if what I feel on the inside. I basically feel like nothing when it comes to my gender. But I express myself typically masculine and I associate androgyny a lot with masc bodies.

So to conclude, I feel fucked up because I'm thinking "wow, I sure wish I was completely genderless" and not sure how to deal with that right now. I have never once felt so seen than I did when reading this manga, but it also punched me in the face. Sort of.

hi I think I'm a girl what do I do

1. look into the process of starting hrt wherever you live. If you’re in the US or Canada and live near a big/reasonably sized city, there’s probably an LGBT clinic or planned parenthood you can check out. There’s no *rush*, but everyone I know (myself included) wishes they had started meds earlier. Additionally, you’ll know pretty fast if they’re right for you once you’re on them, and they’ll start you on a vvv small dose with no permanent effects until a few months in at the earliest.

1a. There are a lot of resources for this online that I recommend looking into. If you live somewhere that makes securing access to HRT hard, you can go greymarket and order them online.

1b. Starting hormones does not mean you need to come out. Nobody in my family knew I was on meds until like a year in (tbf my family is weird and distant and doesn’t pay attention to my gay ass but whatever). I hâte thé phrase “boymoding” but like, i dressed androgynously/butch for a WHILE, and I still do if I don’t want attention/to deal with makeup or whatever that day

2. Idk your gender vibes, how butch or femme you wanna present, etc. so take this with a grain of salt, but here are some lowkey femme things you can do that might feel nice while you figure out hormones

2a. Paint your nails! Imo it’s fun, I like trying different color combos

2b. Learn how to do makeup! I’ll be real with you, eyeliner and a smidge of concealer do a LOT of work, but it’s also fun to mess with highlighter and eyeshadow and whatnot

2c. Voice train, if that’s your thing! I have not done this and depending on the day I either really want to start, or I don’t care, but if you want to sound more “feminine” you might as well start now

2d. Grow your hair out!

3. Stop dating straight girls! Idk your orientation or relationship status, so maybe this is useless advice, but I know at least 3 different trans people whose transition got WAY harder and more stressful bc they started dating a straight person post-egg cracking and pre-transition :/

4. Stop buying men’s clothes, or minimize the amount of men’s clothes you buy. Sincerely, someone who is still getting rid of men’s clothing 2 years later 😭

I literally just woke up, so I hope this is helpful lol; feel free to ask more specific questions! Being trans can be fucking hard, but it’s also a path to joy, and happiness, and being able to actually experience the world, and it’s worth it <3

Hello! For the most part I've mostly felt like a girl my whole life. Even tho I wasn't a girly girl. But last month I got an androgynous haircut because I wanted to look androgynous. I wanted to bring out my masculine side. I have feminine traits and masculine traits. I took a gender rolls quiz to see how I fit in society and it told me I was androgynous and I agreed that for me. I found the term androgyne which I really like. But up until last month I mostly felt like a girl. But I've always felt this way. I follow this guy who's a bigender femboy on Facebook and I think he's so cool. I'm jealous of him. And then within the past few days I've decided that I wanted to be one of those people that looked like a girl one day and a boy the next. I decided that if I was a shapeshifter I would change my gender all the time. I wand people to be confused and wonder if I'm a boy or a girl. Like I don't want to be a man but I'd like to be a goth guy sometimes. Or at least look like one. Can I call myself genderfluid if I plan on changing my appearance from time to time? I feel like waking up and deciding what gender I'm going to be that day is such a girl thing to do. Fucking things up is just very girl of me. Idk it's weird. I've never felt like this before so I feel like I'm trying to be something I'm not. Hi, that depends! It definitely sounds like your gender expression/presentation is very fluid, but gender is not an external thing :)

Gender expression: the way you present yourself/your gender and the way you want other people to perceive your gender -> this includes clothing, accessoires, haircuts, pronouns etc

The way you want to present yourself and others to perceive you and refer to you is part of your gender presentation. (I have another ask where I go more in depth about this here). For some people, their gender aligns with their gender presentation, but this is not always the case (the label for this is gender-nonconforming).

So, I think what you need to ask yourself is this: "Is my gender also fluid, or is only my gender expression fluid?"

Since the label genderfluid solely refers to the internal gender :) So I guess, do you only want to look like a goth guy sometimes and a goth girl other times, or do you want to be one?

Btw, you mentioned this as a "girl thing" etc and I just want to add that you can be genderfluid and static at the same time! Genderfluid is a very broad label, and if your gender only fluctuates partially that's also valid! Some genderfluid people are also always connected to manhood and/or womanhood or masculinity and/or femininity regardless of the changes in their gender, maybe that's something that applies to you too? There are also genderfluid girls and genderfluid boys so maybe that might be worth looking into for you as well :)
