Hello, I'm Arden.

I'm in my early twenties which I believe means I earn my veteran's discount soon when it comes to traversing the world of fanfiction and fandom. I've been reading and writing fanfic since I was 12, perhaps earlier. I have a strong passion for fan culture and community with an even stronger passion for writing fiction. So, I've been in the trenches for awhile and I don't plan on climbing out anytime soon.

Why does this sound like a resume?

In short, I love words - to a rambling degree - and dream of finally finishing all my dusty WIPs. If you follow me for fanfiction, you should know in advance that I will post my own work unbelievably slow. I'll spare the self-pitying details, but with a host of mental and health issues, I'm not great at posting on a schedule. (Which is why I don't accept requests. I don't want to let anyone's expectations down.)

Still, feel free to discuss pieces of media with me or share what's on your mind. I love the hypotheticals and scenarios surrounding fictional characters.

this one has been in the drafts for a bit and i finally finished it so i hope you guys enjoy. writing has been slow recently as i havent had much free time and am still trying to rewatch all the netflix marvel series. but i am still working on requests and stories that ive had started for about a month so hopefully the rest will be out soon, along with some frank castle stories now that ive reached the first season of the punisher

i sat back on my knees and groaned. matt and i were both covered in blood and he was still writhing around on the ground. but the men around us that were out made me a little proud of all that we'd done. it had been weeks of tracking them down, taking out one ninja at a time until we found were they were all hiding.

"i need a vacation."

he noted as he got to his knees and i laughed.

"you and me both D."

he laughed back as he stood, almost doubling over as he clutched his side. i was quick to stand then, helping him, steadying him.

"whoa, hold up there daredevil, i saw that last punch. broken ribs isn't gonna get you anywhere."

he inhaled sharply.

"and what do you suggest i do?"

i snorted.

"you know the answer to that already."

he shook his head as we limped towards the door together.

"yeah, i shouldn't have asked."

when we got back to the apartment i was quick to get him to the couch. every move earned a hiss from deep in his chest as i tried to get his jacket off. i figured his ribs were broke but i was more worried about the cuts and stab wounds.

"alright human x-ray, what's the damage?"

he sat quietly for a moment and listened. then he closed his eyes and sighed.

"what do you think?"

i touched his side lightly.

"oh yeah, they're definitely broken. but there's something else. what is it?"

he blinked slowly before wincing as he tried to resituate himself on the couch.

"the cut below my rib is almost deep enough for it to come out."

i made a gross face.

"so maybe this time we really should get you to a hospital."

"no."

he said quickly and i sent him a look.

"matt, if i don't there's a good chance you'll die."

"no hospital."

i bit my tongue as he laid back.

"fine, ill do the best i can but if you if you start fading on me im doing it. this job is bigger than me, and Claire for that matter."

his jaw tightened.

"what would we even tell them? you're not in any better shape."

his breathing was shaky and staggered. i looked to my knuckles on my right hand as i held the cloth to his open wound. at this point i couldn't tell what was my blood, what was his blood, or what was the blood from the men we'd fought in the back of that abandoned warehouse. and then i looked to my left hand, god it was so much worse. my first two fingers were for sure broken, my wrist not in any better shape, and i had a gash almost the length of the back my arm.

"ill think of something, but right now we need to focus on getting you out of this outfit and keeping you from bleeding out. i don't need the paramedics figuring out what we both do in our free time."

as i sat in the chair beside matt i tried my hardest not to fall asleep. the beep of his heart monitor was very lulling and the morphine they had given me didn't help. it was a little amusing though to look at the two of us; we practically looked like mummies with how wrapped we were. my left hand was broken in eight places, my wrist in two. the cut on my arm was deep enough to need stitches near my elbow but nowhere else, thank god.

"y/n."

i heard him say quietly and i sat up abruptly, no longer tired.

"im here matt, its okay."

i said softly, taking his hand in mine.

"where are we?"

he asked and i let out a laugh.

"metro general."

he deadpanned.

"i thought i told you-"

"i know i know, but i was losing you. i kept checking your heartbeat but you were losing too much blood. and i couldn't live with myself if id let you die. not after all that hard work."

i said the last bit with a hint of amusement and luckily he smiled back.

"what did you tell them?"

i let out a nervous laugh.

"i told them we were walking home through a bad part of town and got jumped, pushed into a back alley by a couple guys, large and in masks. i told them that they all looked the same, same height, same clothes, and only one of them spoke; that he demanded we give him all that we had on us. i told them that you tried to be brave and push me out of the way and that they didn't like that; that they beat you up, attacked you, then attacked me and once they got me on the ground stomped on my hand and ran."

he nodded solemnly; rubbing his thumb over the back of my right hand. the bruises were prominent still, cuts deep to the bone that i hadn't let anyone see since we'd been here the last ten hours.

"that's one hell of a story."

"as far as they know it was one hell of a fight. but you're still my hero; stupid and stubborn, but still a hero."

he smiled, almost laughing but groaning in pain and rolling his head back against the pillows.

"hey, take it easy, you need to heal, You need sleep."

"I get sleep."

he said matter-of-factly and i sent him a look.

"matt, getting knocked unconscious does not count as sleep."

he looked to the ceiling and swallowed hard.

"look, ill call foggy and Karen and tell them you were awake and they can visit later but for now you need all the rest you can get. you lost a lot of blood, and i know you, you'll want to get back out there as soon as possible. but for right now i think its okay to let the others handle the city for a bit. ill talk to Trish, see what she can do with Jessica's help. you know Danny would be willing to do something."

he shook his head.

"no, don't, its fine, I'm fine."

"Matthew, you have three broken ribs, a punctured lung, and you almost got sliced all the way through. I'm calling at least one of your super friends to take the mantle for a couple weeks. hells kitchen survived over a year without the mask, I'm sure it can survive a little longer. just until you're healed."

he sighed, closing his eyes again.

"i hate when you're right."

i smiled, squeezing his hand lightly.

"if that were true, you wouldn't have married me."

i stood up and kissed his forehead.

"Mrs. Murdock, the voice of reason."

he said softly and i leaned down and kissed him properly.

"keeping the love of my life alive one day at a time."

"thank you."

i studied him for a moment as i stood back up.

"get some sleep, ill be right here when you wake up."

@freddiesmyqueen first of all queen i hope you’re doing ok although i know some shit must have gone down for you to delete/private list all your videos and i hope you know that the larry community supports you always. Also your talent is TRULY unmatched in the world of video editing - no one makes edits quite like you and that’s why your loss impacts the community so profoundly.

secondly, i know at least i was hoping to turn to rewatching all of FIMQ’s videos while i’m being quarantined due to the coronavirus. and i’m willing to bet that i’m not the only one. this is a scary time and for people like me who feel profoundly alone right now, the only way for me to calm my nerves and fears is by reverting to the content and community that helped me feel not so alone when i was in middle and high school. Strange Adventures #7: He doesn’t care for tyranny, folks. And JEEESSSUUUUS, Doc

DCeased: Dead Planet #6: Some quality DC Comics nonsense problem-solving, but not sure at all whether the chips are gonna fall in favor of the stuff about this I’ve been really liking or the aspects I simply don’t care about at all.

Tales From The Dark Multiverse: Wonder Woman: War Of The Gods: While I’ve seen plenty of them around the periphery in anthologies and so forth I think this is Vita Ayala’s first full work I’ve been exposed to, and tbh I can’t say I’m taken, even given the pretty threadbare-seeming material for them to work with. I’ll still give Children of the Atom a try, but my expectations have been lowered. Nice seeing Trish Mulviihill’s colors though, thought they looked familiar and it turns out she worked on my beloved Superman & Bugs Bunny.

Batman: The Adventures Continue #7: Yeah, now that it’s all said and done, definitely the best take on the death and return of Jason Todd.

Batman #104: Art’s taken a hit, but Ghostmaker’s getting more and more fun as a character the more that comes out about him. And surprising seeing Dick in his real Robin suit in flashback, Dark Designs had him still rocking that New 52 abomination. It really seems like the policy RE: costumes in flashbacks with him remains up in the air at any given time?

Batman/Catwoman #1: I imagine disappointingly, quite few - both the best and worst part of this book is that King’s entire spiel on “This is gonna be such a different animal from my regular run, this is my DKR, this is my ultimate prestige statement on the characters” was pure hype, this is just the next issue of his Batman run with Clay Mann as the new main artist. And it’s good! I like it! I think it’d take awhile for anybody to tumble onto the ‘three timelines’ aspect of it if they didn’t go in knowing about it since the color of Catwoman’s suit is the only obvious tipoff for a chunk of it, but it’s still a well-constructed piece of comics in line with the story up to this point, even if it’s so in line with it that it pretty much puts the lie to the notion that this was originally conceived of as a special prestige project in the same way as Strange Adventures or Rorschach. Mostly I’m just struck now that it’s out by the guts of doing a straight sequel to Mask of the Phantasm, given that’s maybe the singularly least divisive major Batman story: everybody on every side of the Batman-loving aisle recognizes it as hallowed ground, so nobody’s gonna not be let down if you fuck it up. I really need to rewatch it, it’s been well over a decade and unlike Return of the Joker my memories of it have almost entirely faded.

Black Widow #4: The further in I get the more I’m struck by the cleverness of the central conceit. How do you construct a drama around a century-old woman whose business has her have to mostly forsake most normal human connection? Make the literal supervillain plot that she’s been forced to have incredibly intimate human connections, and now she’s just gotta deal with that on top of what would otherwise be fairly routine Black Widow stuff.

Miles Morales: Spider-Man #21: Hate to say it folks, but even discounting the severity of the delays this arc’s been a dud. Really hoping it finds its feet again soon.

King In Black #1: Holy cow, this was ass. I went in thinking “well, I’ve resigned myself to having to get this to understand the crossovers into books I’m already getting and tie-in minis I do care about, but Cates still has a baseline level of competency so it should still be perfectly readable”, but this is just...nothing. This is that modern Dan Jurgens tier where it’s so bland and perfunctory and inoffensively executed it loops back around to infuriating, except Dan Jurgens’s writing if nothing else at least doesn’t strut around in tangible self-regard as the next great sales-shattering triumph of the Punk Rock God Of Comixxx like Cates’. And when was the last Marvel event on this scale with such little hype behind it? Even Empyre seemed like it had more weight on arrival, and much as I enjoyed it I’m pretty sure that book mainly existed to fill space until we got this. Maybe it’s just the circle I run in. I swear I remember Thanos Wins being pretty fun, and I just reread Atomahawk and that was still a hoot, so it’s a shame Cates has turned out this way, and worse he’s ended up Marvel’s new golden boy. Unless my dad likes it (and if so hey, he’s not alone, I imagine this is selling gangbusters) I’m sure not grabbing another issue, so I guess I’ll have to do my best with context clues in figuring out what’s going on for...Guardians of the Galaxy, S.W.O.R.D., Daredevil, Namor, Return of the Valkyries, the Joe Fixit Immortal Hulk one-shot, Iron Man/Doctor Doom, and the next book below. Fuck.

The Union #1: I’ve only read Everything Used To Be Black And White for Jack Staff but I was definitely curious what Grist would do here, and it didn’t disappoint! Fun little story, bunch of neat character ideas I’m looking forward to seeing developed further, very lived-in feeling slice of its corner of a superhero world.

Marvels Snapshots: Civil War: An excellent little parable that I’m surprised we didn’t actually see the likes of in ‘06, and frankly worth getting a mediocre Miles Morales arc for (even if it was disappointing that that one had to be where the ball was dropped) if this is where Ahmed’s attention was going instead.

Daredevil #25: So I turned two pages at once and accidentally spoiled myself at the last possible moment for the big reveal of the issue, so that sucks. Still a great issue though - one that manages to function as a logical extension of an incredibly street-level story even though it can only possibly exist as an extrapolation of the wildest excesses of the Marvel universe - but I cannot imagine how the hell the next is gonna cleanly pivot into King in Black shenanigans.

Kill A Man: A new OGN by Steve Orlando, cowritten with Phillip Kennedy Johnson and with art by Al Morgan and letters by Jim Campbell, the reductive though not inaccurate pitch is ‘queer Creed’. But since this is likely to sail under the radar I need to emphasize this is one of Orlando’s absolute best works, a real triumph of the form that’s among the best comics of the year (good GOD does this put to shame 99% of superhero comics fight scenes by the end), and a must-buy for any fans of his work. I’m just gonna let how hard the title and solicit text go speak for themselves:

“As a child, James Bellyi watched his father die in the ring as payback for slurs thrown at the other fighter. Today, he's a Mixed Martial Arts star at the top of his game, and one of the most popular fighters in the world...until he's outed as gay in his title shot press conference. Abandoned overnight by his training camp, his endorsements, his fans and his sport, to regain his title shot Bellyi is forced to turn to the last person he ever wants to see again: Xavier Mayne, a gay, once-great fighter in his own right...and the man James once watched kill his father.”

So because of quarantine, I’ve been rewatching a lot of old shows/movies to pass the time. One of those shows is the cancelled-too-soon “The Punisher”. After rewatching both seasons (and season 2 of Daredevil), it’s occurred to me now that this series is the closest we’ll ever get to a MCU villain origin story.

And no, not as in a Venom-type villain story where the main character is still clearly good despite having villainous qualities. I mean, a straight-up villain origin story.

It’s actually quite fascinating since even though Frank is meant to be the hero of his show, the show still explores the parts of his character that could be considered villainous. For example, in Daredevil season 2, Frank is clearly meant to be the secondary villain of the season. He’s Matt’s polar opposite, his introduction in the show is him shooting up a hospital, and since you never really see the story from Frank’s POV, he’s always presented as an antagonistic figure. Yes, he does save Karen and Matt at least once in the season but as a whole, Frank wasn’t the good guy.

Cut to the Punisher spinoff. Now we have a show where we can see the story from Frank’s POV. We’re gonna see how he rationalizes his actions and the show is going to present him in a more favorable light. But even then, there are moments in the Punisher series where Frank makes questionable decisions that make him look like the bad guy. Examples:

1) Flat out rejecting Micro’s suggestion to go to Dinah Madani for help, insisting that they should kill all the bad guys themselves

2) Threatening Micro’s son with a knife, even if it was just to scare him

3) Brutalizing Billy Russo’s face instead of just killing him or knocking him out and leaving him for the police

4) Getting involved in Amy Bendix’s problems. Even Amy questions his motives as she thinks he’s just using her as an excuse to hurt people.

5) Tying up Amy Bendix and using her as bait to lure John Pilgrim’s people to come to him.

And so on. It’s fascinating since even though we’re clearly meant to sympathize with Frank, the show repeatedly shows him in a neutral light, not really glorifying him but also not fully villainizing him. If I had to make a comparison, the Punisher series is less like his Defenders siblings and a lot closer to shows like Breaking Bad and Sons of Anarchy in terms of how it portrays its protagonist. You can sympathize with Frank but the show does make you question that sympathy you’re giving him.

But the biggest point that the Punisher is the closest thing to a villain origin story that the MCU will ever make would be the season 1 and 2 finales. In season 1, the show ends with Frank in a support group, giving us the hope that Frank will find peace and learn to let go of his rage and bloodlust. In season 2, it ends with Frank giving in to the bloodlust and gunning down two rival gangs while in full Punisher gear.

Compare Frank’s story to any other hero in the MCU. Even if they may start as a morally questionable character (ex.: Scott Lang is an ex-con, Stephen Strange is an asshole self-centered surgeon, Peter Quill is a douchebag scavenger), they end up becoming a righteous character after completing their hero’s journey (ex.: Scott is given a second chance by both the Pyms and his own family, Stephen stops being selfish and embraces his role as the Sorcerer Supreme, Peter is still a prick but learns how to work together with other people and saves the galaxy).

Frank might be the sole hero who ends up in a worse place than he started. He starts out in the MCU as a bloodthirsty killer trying to avenge his family. Then, after he gets his revenge, you think he’ll start healing and become a more heroic man. But nope, season 2 ends with him giving into his demons and becoming a full-on serial killer vigilante.

Arguably, Frank became an even worse person since now he’s just going after people who don’t even know him (even if those people are criminals). He’s not killing people for his family anymore, he’s killing people for himself.

(cue the Breaking Bad comparison of Walter White admitting that although he entered the drug business to support his family, he ends up staying in the business for his own greed and vanity)

I’m not saying any of this as a criticism of Frank Castle/The Punisher, by the way. I actually love that this was how his show ended. One of my favorite Marvel comics series is Marvel MAX Punisher and I can see a lot of that comic run’s influence on the show. Also, honestly speaking, I believe Frank Castle should never be portrayed as a full-on hero. Remember, the character was first introduced as a VILLAIN in the Marvel universe.

As Barry comes to a stop on the dock that extends out from Bruce’s mansion (it may not be as large as stately Wayne Manor, but it’s definitely not a mere house), they tilt their head back and take a deep inhale. (I watched the Snyder cut of Justice League and got feelings about nonbinary Barry Allen, so this happened! also, snuck in a ref to 1966 Batman, because I love that goofy show.)

2. It’s only by closing her eyes and counting backwards that Beverly is able to keep from losing control. (from a Beverly/Freddie drabble with werewolf!Beverly. getting back into writing short drabbles has been a lot of fun.)

3. Helena may be tough as hell, but she still bruises easily. (from a Dinah/Helena drabble. with these little drabbles, the first line of the fic ends up being my summary.)

4. “So, do you know anything about this woman?” (more Dinah/Helena! I think I used to start fics with dialogue a lot more than I used to, but we'll see how the next 16 fics go).

5. "There is literally sand inside of me." (From my very first Finn/Poe fic, and oops, there's another fic starting with dialogue.)

6. The following is a transcript of a holorecording that was discovered on the flight recorder of the Raddus, which was recovered in the Crait System after the cruiser's destruction. (Amilyn/Leia, written for the epistolary prompt, and this was so hard to write. It's not a format I see myself returning to anytime soon)

7. It starts off as a fairly normal night (or, as normal as can be expected in Beacon Hills). (Ah, Braeden/Melissa, the rarepair otp of my heart. I am noticing that I tend to start my fics with a single punchy line, rather than a paragraph).

8. This isn’t the first time that Pam has been in jail. (A Jessica Jones fic that's more of a case study of Pam than anything. I'm actually not a huge fan of this opener, but oh well.)

9. Ella isn’t stupid. (and the winner of the shortest opening line goes to! this is from an Ella/Maze fic that probably would have been better as actual smut, but I wasn't feeling it the day I wrote it, and so it ended up as fade to black.)

10. Helena is on her second (or maybe it’s her third) margarita, and between the unfamiliar feeling of alcohol slinking heavily into her blood and the exhaustion surely but steadily triumphing over the adrenaline still coursing through her veins, she’s feeling… strange. (from my first Dinah/Helena fic! this one is definitely an outlier lengthwise, but I like that it sets the scene.)

11. “Karen? Are you still with me?” (from a Claire/Karen fic, because we're rewatching Daredevil and I caught Feelings)

12. Camille has never met Olivia Godfrey. (from the most self-indulgent thing i've ever written, aka a Hemlock Grove/Shadowhunters crossover.)

13. Frosta knows how to be calm in the face of adversity. (another punchy sentence to start! from a gen Frosta & Glimmer fic. I've written a number of gen/platonic stuff lately, and it's been a lot of fun)

14. For weeks, Mabel has been acting suspicious. (speaking of gen fic! I fell in love with Gravity Falls in the early stage of lockdown and this was a lot of fun to write.)

15. From what Gideon has gathered from watching the rest of the cavaliers interact with their necromancers, combined with what little information she actually retained from Aiglamene, being a cavalier is nothing like what the porno magazines led her to believe. (oof, that's a long one. probably should have trimmed it. from a Dulcinea/Gideon fic.)

16. The thing is, Dani’s room looked a lot closer to the ground when she was standing outside looking up at it. (from the only fluffy Bly Manor fic I've written to date, oops. I used to start a lot of fics with 'The thing is', so I've been trying to move away from that tendency.)

17. “Are you sure that this is a good idea?” Lilith asks from where she’s kneeling between Moxxi’s legs, turning over the bright pink gun in her hands. (one of these day, I'll find someone else who appreciates this pairing as much as I do.)

18. Perfuma thinks that she may have just destroyed a Horde bot for the last time. (Perfuma/Scorpia. this sentence is a bit awkward. oops.)

19. It’s been nearly a month since they left the ocean behind, but Jaxx is still getting used to waking up to the sound of birdsong. (ah yes, the fic I wrote for The Meg, a movie I didn't even enjoy. I do like this opening line though.)

20. Despite everything, Dani didn’t think that it would end this way. (some angsty Bly Manor fic, and that opening certainly telegraphs that it's a Sad one.)

Patterns: I think I've been experimenting with some new structures lately, but my go-to is still starting a fic with a single, standalone line, that tries to set up the mood and hook the reader. I try to keep that sentence short. also, I write almost exclusively in present tense. a lot of the lines kind of open the story in the present moment, and then in the following paragraphs, I backtrack to how we got there.

Favorite: Probably number 10! It's definitely longer than most of my openers, but because of that, I think it's most effective at setting the scene! I also just really love writing Dinah/Helena.

THE MR. HAPPY WHY ARE YOU SO FUCKING BORING MASTERPOST

This experience made me not like Mr. Happy anymore because he's so boring that it caused me genuine physical pain and I had to take multiple breaks halfway through to even manage it. Oh my god he is bland.

Season 1

Mr. Happy appears in 25 episodes in Season 1.

In 2 of these episodes does he do something wrong.

Season 2

Mr. Happy appears in 27 episodes in Season 2.

In 4 of these episodes does he do something wrong.

Conclusion

Mr. Happy does something wrong in 6 out of the 52 episodes he's in, which is 11%. Counting the 5 I was unsure about bumps him up to 11/52, which is 21%.

SEASON 1

Music - Mr. Happy's kinda like Mr. Noisy where he's a blank slate in the majority of his segments

Physical - Am I gonna be really negative in these notes again? Probably.

Lake - Is this really how I'm spending my summer vacation. Rewatching this hellshow 31 times to find out how much of an asshole these characters are.

I’m currently rewatching all of Daredevil and the Punisher (almost finished with season 1) and I have been strongly reminded of how much I love Matt Murdock and I really hope his character is still as incredible in season 3. I’m very nervous.

Also, the reader is based on a character I made for the Punisher series that I need to start working on. Basically, she’s a mutant with cool healing powers and she can identify people’s injuries and illnesses just by focusing her energy on them.

This takes place a little after season 1.

Like Real People Do.

Strong alcohol and heavy smokers give the dingy bar its never-changing scent. The lighting is scarce and the patrons even scarcer. A total of 6 people are here tonight, all of them alone. You included. You would say the night has just begun, meaning things could still liven up, but you wouldn’t mind if it didn’t. You sit in the far corner of the room, back against the wall, able to see everything but the front door.

Just then, another loner walks into the establishment, bringing the body count up to 7. You stop in the middle of taking a swig of your Guinness. There’s something familiar about this newcomer. You turn your torso to look.

A man in a cheap gray suit with dark shades and a white cane is walking up to the bar.

“Jameson on the rocks, please.”

His voice is scruffy and somehow soft at the same time. You recognize it in the same moment you recognize all the bruises and cuts below his clothing. You sensed them just yesterday, although that man had seemed quite different than the one sitting a few yards from you now. You swallow the last of your beer and decide you just have to say hello.

You walk up to the man with a purpose, doing a good job of keeping your slightly tipsy ass completely on balance. He doesn’t turn towards you as you sit on the stool beside him and order another beer. Then you glance over at him.

“You know, a handsome man such as yourself shouldn’t be out alone at night. You never know what could happen, especially in this city.” You make sure to lay on the playfulness so he knows for sure that you’re joking.

The man chuckles lightly, shifting ever so slightly in your direction.

“Does me being blind have anything to do with that?”

“Oh, it was the main concern. Of course.” You then lean in a little closer and talk a little softer.

“Don’t want you running into anything dangerous, do we?”

“I think I can take care of myself, but thank you for the concern.”

“Mmm… I know you can.”

“And how’s that?”

Making sure no one can hear what you say, you scooch your mouth as close to his ear as you can without it being weird.

“Because you’re the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen.”

The man’s demeanor stiffens at the turn of a dime. You can tell he’s gone on the offensive and is ready to fight, so you take a step back.

“I believe we met last night in the alley behind the Salvation Army on 46th street. My name’s Y/N.”

You extend your hand, exuding all the sincerity and warmth you have to help him relax and prove to him that you’re on his side. He surely remembers your little chat last night. It was mostly about how he was confused as to who you were because he’d never heard of or seen you before, which was fair. Still a little insulting, but fair because you were new to the scene. You started going out not long before Fisk was exposed.

Your soft smile and steady heartbeat prove to your companion you mean no harm, but he’s still a little hesitant in taking your hand and shaking it once.

“Matt Murdock.”

“A Matthew. Interesting. It’s nice to meet the daytime you.”

“Likewise.” You appreciate the small upturn at the corners of his mouth.

“Let’s move this conversation to a more secluded area, yeah?”

Matt lets out his held breathe, “yes, please.”

You lead the way with your arm reaching out behind you, barely grazing the side of his wrist as a guide that you know he doesn’t need. You return to the table you were at before, the best private vantage point in the whole bar.

The two of you take seats opposing one another. Matt’s body has fully relaxed, but you know he is still keeping his guard up.

“So, why a suit?”

“I’m a lawyer. My partners and I actually just got Fisk convicted.”

“Ah, so you take care of criminals in more ways than one. I’m impressed.”

“What about you though? You help people in more ways than one. I know you heal and can somehow heal others, but you also have some serious skills with a blade. AND you’re a doctor, right?”

“Not anymore.”

You weren’t expecting Matt to bring up such a sore subject so soon. You liked the guy but you didn’t want him knowing your whole backstory already. You quickly changed the subject.

“So, you can’t use your eyes to see, but you know everything that’s happening around you. How does that work?”

“That’s a bit of a long story.”

Yikes. There’s his backstory. He doesn’t seem ready to share that yet either. You glance over Matt’s shoulder and see the dusty jukebox in the back corner.

“Do you dance, Mr. Murdock?”

“A little, Ms. L/N.”

“Perfect. Give me one moment.”

You swiftly move your way over to the jukebox, throw in the dollar that you have left for tonight and pick the first song that pops up in the “smooth tracks” section. A soft melody on a banjo rings out.

I had a thought, dear, however scary

about that night the bugs and the dirt.

You go back to Matt and gingerly take his hand into yours. He stands with a grin and follows you to the small place between the speaker and the bathroom.

Why were you digging? What did you bury

before those hands pulled me from the earth?

You place your left hand on his right shoulder and continue holding his left hand with your right. Matt takes his glasses off and places them in his pocket with his free hand before placing it on the back of your waist. The pair of you start slowly swaying to and fro, shimming around in a circle.

I will not ask you where you came from.

I will not ask you, neither should you.

You take a glance up and are stunned by Matt’s irises. In the dim yellow glow of the bar lights, their shade of brown is somewhere between honey and chocolate, appearing to be two little sweets for you to hunger for. Even though they aren’t able to focus on you, it somehow feels like they are looking deep into yours. The blind trust you give to him scares you for a moment.

Honey just put your sweet lips on my lips.

We should just kiss like real people do.

“So how did you know it was me?” You’ve been anticipating this question.

“I can sense injuries and illnesses in people. I do have some influence over a person’s healing too, but it’s mainly my medical training that does the trick. I recognized your bruises, which are everywhere, and your many fractures and cracks, new and old.”

“That’s incredible… but also weird.”

You both laugh and break a little tension that has built from everyone else in the bar noticing your dance.

“I don’t think you have any room to talk.”

“You’re probably right.” Matt remarks with a little chuckle.

I knew that look dear, eyes always seeking,

was there in someone that dug long ago.

“What we do- it all feels like a lot, but... it’s worth it. Don’t you think?”

Matt takes a moment to think about his answer.

So I will not ask you why you were creeping.

In some sad way, I already know.

“I think it can be, yeah. It also feels way less daunting when you’re not doing it alone.”

You smile. He’s right. You didn’t realize it until he just said it, but ever since your encounter last night, you felt a little lighter, as if you didn’t have to hold so much on your plate anymore. It allowed you to take a breath and go out to the bar for once. You earned it.

“I agree.”

I will not ask you where you came from.

I will not ask you and neither would you.

The both of you continue to sway as you feel the song nearing its end. That song was your last dollar so you were done drinking tonight. You thought about how badly you now wanted to be out in the city, helping whoever you could. With Daredevil by your side, you could know about anyone that was in trouble and he could have backup to take on even more bad guys. You both could accomplish so much more.

“What if we went out and kicked ass together? Right now.”

The possibilities are starting to build in your gut, pushing up adrenaline. You both stop swaying.

Honey just put your sweet lips on my lips.

We should just kiss like real people do.

“Well? What are we waiting for?” Matt smiles and you copy.

Before even thinking about it, you pop up on your toes and kiss your lips to Matt’s cheek. His scruff tickles your nose and chin and his aftershave zips into your nostrils, leaving a minty burn behind.

With his hand still in yours, you bop back down and lead the way out of the bar and into the next adventure of your life.

I could not ask you where you came from.

I could not ask you, neither could you.

Honey just put your sweet lips on my lips.

We could just kiss like real people do.

Role Reversal - Supernatural - Discontinued

This one (and probably most of these ones I’m going to start with) are pretty much discontinued. I have just no drive or interest in continuing it. If I ever did, I’d want to start it completely over, since the writing is just so old. Like, wow, five years old at this point. This fic inparticular, I had better ideas for it after I had published it. At this point I’m keeping it around for like posterity’s sake.

From Heaven to Earth - Supernatural - Discontinued

This one is discontinued as well. It was an interesting fic, but I had no idea where I was really going with it.

Wiccans Don’t Use Rifles - Supernatural - Discontinued

I kinda like this title, but this fic is definitely discontinued. I had no idea what had caused this weird thing to happen in the timeline. It’s like a fic I would’ve liked to read, but didn’t know how to write.

More Than One - Sonic the Hedgehog - Discontinued

I actually had way more of an idea of the plot for this one than I did the previous four, but I just lost steam on it and grew dissatisfied with my own portrayls of the characters. Also I think there was maybe another chapter that I head meant to post but never did? And that’s always annoying :P Also I hate the name and summary.

Strangers of the Woods - Homestuck - Discontinued

Uhuh, no no, not a huge fan of this one. I don’t really like the plot anymore, or how I was executing it, and I definitely think I could’ve done much better work. I used to really like the plot, but now I’m just kind of embarressed about it.

The Monsters Came - Undertale - Discontinued... probably

This is one of those fics that I could see myself writing another chapter to years later, if I’m ever really bored or have a really good idea how to portray the inegration of monster and human culture and stuff, but honestly it’s probably not going to update again knowing me

Things I noticed during rewatching season 7

Just some things.

I really don’t get how this season got so much hate. I really, really don’t get it.

Below I’ve got some random points.

Why is it that this kids show makes me cry? Seriously.

Rommelle has blue markings on her face, rather than the typical pink ones that females have. I’m cool with trans Romelle theory.

Acxa straight-up glares at Coran like she wants him to die, which is such a strange change of her face in that moment that it sticks out all the more. While I originally thought she may be on the side of good, now I’m not quite sure.

In episode 5, Kolivan says that the Altean community is gone, so we can only imagine that after Honerva went into Oriande that she was able to contact the Alteans, who would undoubtedly be willing to go to war for Lotor and save him.

Solar system? YOU MEAN GALAXY. NOT SOLAR SYSTEM.

An explanation of why the world is the way it is (aka no racism and homophobia, etc) is given in Episode 8—looks like there was a WWIII.

I am pretty sure the desert area of the Garrison is in New Mexico, probably around White Sands. (Why? Because in some of the pictures it looks like the sand is white, and I know there’s military stuff going on in that area.)

Calling it now:

Red --> Rizavi Blue --> Kinkade (He’s the best shot of them all) Black ---> Griffin Yellow --> Veronica Green ---> Leifsdotter

If they follow the pattern for who flew with who, it’ll be

Red --> Veronica Blue --> Kinkade Black --> Griffin Yellow --> Leifsdotter Green --> Rizavi

I know proper think that Veronica should have the Blue or Red, but I think Rizavi is considered the daredevil of the group and I remember what Hunk said—he wanted to give Yellow to a nice girl who he thinks would be brave enough. Otherwise, I would give Veronica Blue and Kinkade Yellow.

I really, really don’t like Sanda.

Also, I randomly started crying in the middle of the speech Sam was giving about not giving in. My heart, man. My heart.

The constant weird sounds from the phones and computers, like with the other seasons, is constantly sending me into deja vu. The sound is something younger people may not notice, but it’s the sound of what sounds computers used to make when you turned on the internet.

What treachery did Keith commit? Seriously. Is it because he’s half-galran, or is it because Keith has the capabilities of being a druid?

Krolia and Kolivan. Yes, please.

That teddy bear in the ruined bar of Episode 9 broke my heart. Also, Hunk’s family not being there killed me. All that boy wanted was to see his family, and yet...

I am so happy that Iverson and Keith got to have an honest conversation. I think that Keith and Griffin will get to talk, too.

Keith and Hunk make me so happy. They really have grown so strong. My boysssss.

The fact that Griffin, a stickler for the tules, is willing to go out of his way to help Keith and Hunk. It means even though he is big with rules, he isn’t unchangeable.

Hunk crying kills my soul.

Heart of the Lion, starting with Shiro—he is the heart of the lion. He really is. Also, the fact that they’ve talked about Balmera and in Episode 13 we have Shay, a Balmera, show up? I think we may have Balmera chips coming to us soon.

The scene in Episode 10 reminds me of when Keith and Lance, in episode 2 of season 1, had to work together on the maze of castle of lions. They both have grown so much.

I love that Keith and Pidge pull the same thing they did in past episodes with tricking them using the doubles.

Lance closing his eyes and accepting his death? Broke my heart.

I’m trying to rewatch walking dead and I am exhausted. So stressful. So sad. I keep having to take breaks.

I’m on daredevil 2x07 simply for castle candy. It’s playing quietly on the tv. My 2 year old stops from destroying my house to look up at castle entering the court room and say “mama he’s big! He’s so big!”

uu generation seems nice I'll give it a try. and i loove betty. all the girls are so pretty and them skating in nyc makes such a casual but entertaining series, i love it. i really like hbo shows too. never watched got, but I'm currently watching succession, and i loved big little lies and sharp objects. i know it's kinda of a dad series, but i watched dexter last year and really liked it and now they're back with a spin off and I'm really enjoying. i am also a marvel and dc fan but been out of the loop since it's been a long time since I've gone to the theaters, but i want to get back into it. i really liked daredevil and punisher, for me they're the best super hero series. i really liked alice in borderland too and am waiting for s2.

for movies, my favorite is Mio on the Shore. is that movie where nothing really happens and you just sympathize w the main character who's going through kinda of a tough time, idk, it's just the perfect movie imo. also really like Good Will Hunting, Linda Linda Linda, Sing Street, Whiplash. also, one of the best recent movies I've watched is Judas and the Black Messiah!! i love daniel kaluuya and he's so good in it.

for music, i am a huge rock fan. led zeppelin n pink floyd are my favorite bands. been getting into mitski as of recently. also really like my chemical romance, but i have to listen to more songs.

also, anime. haikyuu, attack on titan, jujutsu kaisen, death note. I'm new to it so I've only seen the more famous ones. have to look for more recs. (if you have any, let me know!!)

that kdrama is on my list for so long!! i have to watch it!!! and i have to watch moonlight, it's on my long list of films, but I'll definitely watch soon since it's one of your favorites.

alice in borderland was SO FUCKING GOOD OMG, i’m a pretty impulsive person so after s1 i just watch an explanation vid of the story bc i didn’t know if it would get an s2🧍🏾

i’ve tried sing street but i fell asleep lmao but whiplash was a fucking slap in the face, an absolute masterpiece! mio on the shore looks interesting so i’m putting it on my list and omg daniel is such a great actor(him n dev patel are just mind blowing)

i know these bands have never (intentionally)listened to them tbh but mitski on the other hand is just :( you’re sun, you’ve never seen the night but you hear its song from morning birds. well i’m not the moon and i’m not even a star.

and yes i also really love anime. i’ve watched all the most popular ones like naruto and noragami but if you ever feel like crying a bunch, i recommend banana fish(i should rewatch it sometime) and omg haikyuu :(( that anime holds a place in my heart fr

Worldbuilding and the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Last September, I embarked on a mission that somehow didn’t seem as ambitious as it actually was once I started. I decided to watch the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe -- including the television shows. I wanted to watch in the chronological order of the universe, meaning not the order the movies came out in our world, but in the order of events that take place in the universe. I’d done MCU marathons before, but never like this. The main reason I did this is because I love worldbuilding. While I went into it knowing some of the early movies are rough (hello Incredible Hulk where it rains every time they want us to feel emotional), I went into it more interested in the way Marvel built a world for the screen in a way that encompasses so many movies and television shows.

Setting up was fairly easy. I randomly expressed an interest in doing this watch and pretty quickly after, I was sent a very detailed list outlining the correct order (shout out to Amani Herron). I chose to live tweet it (which I wouldn’t do again because live tweeting makes it hard for me to focus and the thread became ridiculous). I started with Captain America: The First Avenger and decided to end with season 4 of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., since the newest season would be starting soon and I didn’t want to fall behind. Because Marvel never stops putting out content, I ended up skipping more recent series at the time (The Punisher and Inhumans), but by some stroke of luck I was able to include Thor: Ragnarok at the right moment.

Though it forced me watch Iron Fist, doing a complete viewing helped me understand all of the moving pieces, meet and learn about different aspects of the universe and its characters, and really get to see how planned and fleshed out the world is. Having to switch so frequently between different stories, most notably Daredevil Season 2 and Luke Cage season 1 because they happen around the same time, could sometimes be jarring because of the different tonal shifts. It also quickly began to feel like an Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. binge but with breaks for the movies and Netflix shows, because at that point they were 88 episodes in. This wasn’t a problem for me, not least of which because I do a S.H.I.E.L.D. binge before a new season drops anyway, but also because seeing how one story, or multiple, fed into another was amazing, and especially paid off in time for Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War.

One of the fun things about doing a chronological binge is picking up on the easter eggs and small worldbuilding moments that bring all of the properties together. Even obvious moments like mentioning Stephen Strange in Captain America: The Winter Soldier long before he gets his own movie, or attributing the evacuation hellicarriers from the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron to Phil Coulson at S.H.I.E.L.D. tie the world together in a way that doesn’t feel forced but also provides other points of entry for people who are interested in the stories but may feel intimidated about diving head first into the world. Watching them so close together also helped me catch small things that I’d somehow missed, especially on S.H.I.E.L.D., which is really good at using tech introduced in other properties to connect themselves to the current events while continuing with their own stories. Moments like the Centipede organization using the explosive serum from Iron Man 3 to create super soldiers or the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. being attacked by the Judas bullets introduced in Luke Cage really work to make the world feel smaller even as our heroes are putting out a thousand separate fires at the same time.

Having watched all 18 films and 179 (at the time) television episodes, the hot takes about Infinity War relying on previous stories while setting up the next Avengers film got on my nerves. Infinity War has always been marketed as part 1 of a sequel to the 18 other movies. However, while I do think there are certain stories you need to see to understand what’s happening, I don’t think you have to watch every single property to be a fan of the MCU or to even understand the Avengers movies. I do think you should come prepared in some way; there are interviews and recaps on YouTube and all over the internet to help you understand what’s going on, and which are way less time consuming than watching almost ten days worth of television and movies. And, of course, some of the movies and TV are just not good and you shouldn’t have to subject yourself to them if you already know better. I do think it’s essential FOR ME because of the commitment I’ve put in to see this universe through, and because I love the worldbuilding at this magnitude. While it means that I will eventually watch Inhumans and season 2 of Jessica Jones, suffer through bland romances, and the movies pretending the TV shows don’t exist, I still feel like I get something out of it. I’ve already decided I’m going to do another chronological rewatch in the future, though not anytime soon and definitely not on Twitter.
