2024 Fic Wrap-Up
Another year, which means another year of writing!
Most Popular (Kudos)
The Pines Paradox - Gravity Falls
Ford's research is interrupted by his estranged brother showing up on his doorstep with a kid who claims to be time traveller. Meanwhile in the present, Stan and Mabel try to figure out how to get Dipper back to the right time. There will be secrets revealed, old wounds readdressed, and above it all a one-eyed demon watches with interest. (Previously titled Twins Across Time)
Considering the Gravity Falls resurgance, hardly a surprise! Although it's been a second since I've updated this, I am actually really happy with it and how it's been turning out! It's a lot of fun to write, in no small part because of the love it gets from my sister haha.
Least Popular (Kudos)
And the World was a Graveyard - Trigun Stampede
Meryl notices Vash folding paper flowers. In time, he reveals what he does with them.
Like the last one, this isn't surprising other. I actually think I wrote this last year...? Zine pieces always perform worse once they're actually posted. That being said, though, I still find the concept of this one really cute and I'm glad it's finally out there so someone can read it, even if not many have haha.
Longest Fic
Death Does Not Us Part - FFVII Comp
In the Northern Crater, a year after Meteor with the world just barely beginning to recover, there's a shift in the flow of Mako, a call only certain individuals can hear, and the dead wake up. Angeal just wants to know what's happened since he died. Genesis has amends to make - if he can swallow his pride enough for it. Sephiroth thinks he wants to give destroying the world another go, this time with more support. And Zack mostly just wants to find out what happened to Cloud.
Another fic I want to continue sometime! I had a lot of fun writing this one - getting into the minds of all the Firsts can be a little tricky, but their dynamics are very interesting to mess around with. And of course, I had to shove Cait Sith in there somewhere haha. It's definitely the fic I put the most work into this year - Pines Paradox was more fun, while DDNUP was a bit more serious.
Shortest Fic
After the Rain - FFVII Crisis Core
Too late, Cissnei finds Zack's dead body.
If not for my Trigun fic, this also would've been my least popular fic. Hardly surprising. TBH, not totally satisfied with this one, but I do like that I wrote it. There were a few different ways I think I could've gone, but I liked the idea of Cissnei covering up Cloud's disappearance, just as a final act of good will to Zack.
Personal Favorite
A Spark in the Night - FFXVI
Elwin and Cid meet at the Remembrance Ceremony.
I always struggle with this category bc they're ALL my favorite, but I have to go with my niche ship of Elwin/Cid. In general this fic was a lot of fun to write, particularly exploring Elwin as a character and his thoughts on the bearer system and his sons and how thye play into that. Cid is also fun to write bc it's before a lot of his character development, so I get to plant the seeds of the man he'll become.
Honorable Mentions
I'd say sorry for putting so many fics in this category but it's my post so who gives a shit.
Encore - FFXVI - I write a lot of time travel fics, but this is probably one of my favs, in no small part due to it only being the 'fun' part. It was also a lot of fun to write how each of the dominants change from getting their memories of the future, and start to show how that's already changing the trajectory of the future. (Spectator's View, the companion is also really good. I love outsider POVS of time travel)
Singing the Sound (that You Found for Me) - FFVII - What if you were in a time loop but also weren't aware you were in a time loop at the same time. I love Cait and Reeve, and exploridni ghow the time loop doesn't totally affect Cait was a lot of fun, particularly in showing how the world around Cait changes and how his interactions with AVALANCHE change throughout the loops.
Cloud Watching - FFVII - Pretty high on the 'fics I really really need to update', focusing on how people react to Cloud's 'episodes'. A really fun character exploration, and I do have plans to continue it, but I always get caught up in a different project instead of work on it :P
Meeting Behind Enemy Lines - FFVII - OF COURSE I have to mention this fic! Tbh, I'd almost already want to rewrite, bc it's such a cool concept I don't think I quite did justice? In general, Reeve and Nanaki are in the same building for a long time, and writing them meeting before the events of FFVII is a lot of fun. I think they'd actually manage to get along all right, particularly Nanaki and Cait.
Those Trapped in the Tower - FFVII - Okay okay okay, last one I promise, but nobody write fics about Reeve and Chadley so I will! There's parallels between them and then between Chadley and Cait Sith, and I wish it was explored! Instead it seems like they're just giving Cait's plotline to Chadley whole-cloth :P.

Sightseeing - Gold Saucer
The lightshow during the funicular ride had already been breathtaking, and Cait cannot deny that he is very excited to be here. He had been practically vibrating in his seat the whole ride through. The moment the doors open the cat jumps out, bouncing on his feet as he waits for his friend to exit after him at a more normal pace. "C'mon, c'mon!" He tries to get Red to match his energy. "The biggest amusement park in th' world! Ye have tae experience it at least once!" And this is supposed to be his workplace one day, gotta look around!
Cait scampers off, actually running on all fours, through the hallway connecting the funicular with the main entrance. "If I lose you in the crowd I'm leaving you behind," he hears Red call after him, amusement clear in his voice.
"Nah," the cat calls back with a grin, "I'd find ye before ye could even make it tae th' entrance! Ye're not gettin' rid of me tha' easy!"
They do soon encounter a slight problem before they even make it to the entrance. Overstimulation.
Cait has no issues with the bright lights and loud music, but Red's ears keep flicking, he starts to shiver and he does a full body shake. A paw comes up to rub at his eye. The two friends decide to backtrack through the hallway and into one of the rooms until it passes. The eventual journey to the park entrance is taken as slow as Red needs.
——————————————
They make it through the entrance without problem because people assume they are either animatronics—which, in Cait Sith's case, isn't even necessarily wrong—or very dedicated employees in suits, and employees don't need to pay for entry, that would just be ridiculous!
After studying the map—"Th' maps are moogles, Red! An' they talk!"—the two decide to first check out the Chocobo Square. (Cait notices Red's tail swish just a bit faster than usual and his grin impossibly widens even more. His friend is just as excited to be here as Cait is, there is no hiding from him!)
——————————————
"Why do they serve corn juice?!" Red exclaims as he scans the menu.
Cait has to hold both his hands in front of his mouth to keep from laughing.
——————————————
He doesn't even work here yet but Cait is already a huge hit with children and he thrives on their delight at his various dances or impromptu comedy routines. It might mean that it takes them longer to see everything, but children (and even some parents!) are laughing thanks to him and hugging him.
Cait can't wait for the day his moogle is done and he can start working here properly. This place is paradise.
——————————————
"And you really want to work here?" the beast man asks quietly. They are currently hiding in a staff only room so Red can recover from another bout of overstimulation. "I admit that it's a lot of fun—the things I can actually get to do anyways—but it's so bright and loud. How will you manage a whole work day without going mad from it all?"
Cait huffs a little laugh. "Entertainin' people is my purpose, I was lit'rally made for this!"
Red gives him a blank stare. "You're a surveillance bot."
"I told ye, I can be both!"
——————————————
Red's ears pick up as he reads a poster. "The Battle Square is holding a double battle tournament today. The winners get a gold pass for the park, from Dio himself apparently, whoever that is."
"Tha's th' owner o' th' park," Cait explains and then pretends to think about it. "...ye got 'nuff energy tae clobber some folks?"
Red's smile is all teeth. "We do have some materia that need leveling."
Cait grins like the cat that got the canary.
——————————————
They win easily, the poor people in the tournament had no chance. Red gets the gold pass and Cait takes the chance to speak with the owner for a bit. Why not make a good first impression and get to know his unknowing future employer?

If anyone is curious this is a picture of my story Hagstone that I’ve been writing with @browniefox for five years haha. It’s gone through many changes. I’m hoping to make one last big revision to the story and then call it finished (god willing by the end of this year).
Hagstone is the story of a college dropout named Kyle who finds new housing with strange roommates, each of which is a supernatural creature, and gets wrapped into their world as well as a threat to the entire town. Hagstone focuses on the concept of moving on from the past and facing the future.
Tumblr media
I talk about all the issues with Hagstone but I genuinely love this story

anyway so I wrote this ducktales fanfiction
Summary:
Huey, Dewey, and Louie were raised by their Uncle and yet knew very little about him.
Snapshots of the times they learned a bit more about him and their bloodline.
Or, 5 times the triplets learned something about their Uncle + 1 time they were told something (and the event that made them believe it)

Here’s my spn ending:
We deal with two hunters who are siblings (make at least one of them a girl for spice) on a hunt x years after the end. They run into cas during it who helps them out! Winchesters get mentioned and a lot of like rumors about them get passed around. Cas leaves them with a number to call if they need help.
Go over to the law inforcement they had to deal with, who call the number on cas’ idk fake police card or whatever, and we see older dean answer (maybe missing a limb???).
We follow him around the bunker for just a bit and see a lot of hunters doing work there. Yes there’s a dog. Ends with him and Sam getting in the impala to go on a hunt with cas appearing in the back (maybe quick destiel kiss????) and they’re seen off by the big family they’ve created

Hey if you write an actual fic for the taz a/gravity falls crossover from the post you made a while back I would read the frick out of that
(in reference to this post) Hey, that’s great to hear! It’s definitely a very low priority for me right now, but I definitely want to do more with it someday because I have IDEAS for how the fourth hunt would turn out >:)
But in the meantime, here’s a snippet of a GF x Amnesty fic I wrote a while ago! It actually predates that post, and as a result, the timelines don’t entirely line up, but it’s what I’ve got on hand atm.
***
We see the foothill-dotted terrain that surrounds the outskirts of Kepler, a narrow highway winding haphazardly between the pines. The scene is serene and the road is empty as the sun sinks below the horizon, and the sky fades from orange to purple to a deep navy blue. Constellations twinkle into view, radiant and captivating in the absence of light pollution, and the forest seems to relax, letting out a long exhale of relief that anyone who didn’t know better would likely mistake for a gentle nighttime breeze.
Then a car tears through the night, engine roaring and headlights blazing. The driver’s knuckles are white as the grips the steering wheel — not with fear, but with excitement and anticipation. He takes a hairpin turn at more miles per hour than either the road or the car is built for, and the adrenaline rush manifests as a thrilled smile and a deep, hearty laugh.
Next to him, riding shotgun, his twin brother’s face is identical, but twisted into a grimace instead of a grin. Uncomfortably, he fidgets with a faintly beeping device in his hand, the blue-green glow of its screen reflecting off his glasses, and then sets it down in his lap, groaning.
“You make a big stink about me not wearing my seatbelt, only to drive like a fuckin’ adrenaline junkie?” Stan asks. “Hypocritical much?”
Ford chuckles. “On the contrary, actually. I wanted you to wear your seatbelt so I could drive like an adrenaline junkie, as you put it.”
“Aren’t we planning to spend the next couple weeks fighting cryptids and shit? Can’t you get your adrenaline fix in then, when there’s actually something I can do to save your reckless ass other than scream look out for the tree! and get my face busted up by an airbag?”
“Well, it’s not like I’m going to just walk up to Bigfoot and sucker punch them. This is a research mission first and foremost, and I don’t plan on throwing down with any cryptids unless they attack me first… which may very well happen, given some of the incidents reported in Kepler over the last couple decades.”
“Incidents, huh? You mean like that whole damn waterpark that got annihilated?”
“Exactly — actually, that might be one of the more benign events. The past few decades, there has been an extraordinary abundance of sinkholes and other minor natural disasters, of unsolved missing persons cases and suspicious deaths that were never officially ruled as murders, but…”
He slapped his head. “Oh, and the Bigfoot sightings! Can’t forget the Bigfoot sightings, especially in recent years!”
“Sounds like home away from home, then.”
“You want to know the strangest part? Back when I got my grant in ‘75 and was choosing where to research the supernatural, there was no sign of anything supernatural in this neck of West Virginia — not a single red thumbtack on the map on my wall! These incidents are a relatively new phenomenon, likely not dating back any further than the late 80’s!”

10, 15, and 18 for the ask game :)
What fandoms?
Ooh quite a few. Little Nightmares 2, Pokémon Indigo League, Redwall, Scooby-Doo (still in progress!), Deltarune, and I probably forgot a few others lol.
What did you like about writing?
There’s something about how words come from one’s self? Like, I write and sure I mentally plan a bit, but for the most part I let the words shape themselves around the idea, if that makes sense.
And aww thanks ;u;

Okay witch and familiar world building for a little fic I’m working on:
Witches are mages who have a familiar!
Mages cast by connecting their internal magic to the external magic of the world, and casting requires time and concentration.
Familiars have little internal magic, and so draw naturally and fluidly on the magic of the world around them, meaning they cast almost instantaneously, but are restricted due to area or circumstance for *what* they can cast.
Mage-familiar bonds benefit both parties! The witch, through the bond, can now cast quickly relying on nature, while the familiar can draw from the witch for more complex and varied spells.
Usually during a battle, either the witch or familiar will stay back, focusing on casting, while the other half will be in the thick of battle, usually doing the familiar quick nature-casting. When the longer spell is finished, it can go through the bond to be ‘cast’ by the half in battle, doing more damage at close range usually.
Mage-familiar bonds are strong and hard to sever. Death of one can result is death of the other.
Familiars as a group can be any animal, but an individual only has one animal form.
Familiars can also take on a human form when they have a lot of magic.
Familiars were hunted for a while and forced into bonds with mages, the process killing many, making familiars rare and cautious.

Ahh your fics are really good!! Would you happen to have any fic recs? I’m always looking for new stuff to sink my teeth into
By other authors, I have a few bookmarks on ao3 (though its been a minute since I properly scrolled the submas tags there because. Work.)
Detours - BrownieFox
We Will Always Have Each Other - PixelEnchanter
Unova Re-education - mushroomsandteeth
Is that my fucking brother? - Alienea
Emmet Goes Batshit: The Musical - BreadLoafHeart
But of mine, I think the one I'm still the most proud of has to be the Diary of Warden Ingo. I'm honestly so enamored with how that one came out and how I managed to do it in a diary-style type of writing.
I have so much fun writing everything I do and I hope you keep enjoying it all! <3

----------------
Unova was different from Sinnoh. It was nowhere near as cold for one. Dawn liked that. She liked the way the people of Unova didn’t bat an eye at her swinging and jumping walk, and how the native Pokémon differed from home. Unova had so much to do, and during the entire vacation, she and her mother had been on their feet. Dawn liked seeing the museum in Nacrene City. The lady that ran it had been nice to her, and indulged her questions from start to finish. When she had noticed that Dawn had focused on the fossil exhibit, she even gave her a small book about all the different fossil Pokémon currently revivable. She spent that evening reading it front to back. Come next morning, when she and her mother started on their journey to Castelia City, she chattered at her mother about her new book. How Archeops had feathers that were extremely hard to reconstruct because they were so delicate. How Kabutops had had gills and were in the first steps of becoming land-dwellers. How Bastiodon and Rampardos had been engaged in brutal wars for territory, and that there were still fossils being found of them locked in battle. The road passed Dawn by, and she didn’t really pay attention until they stepped onto the giant Skyarrow Bridge. Dawn liked the way it swayed in the wind, and how massive it was.
----
They left Castelia soon after arriving, neither of them too comfortable with the size of the skyscrapers. It was different to have a mountain looming over you compared to skyscrapers. The road to Nimbasa is dusty and dry, so different from any place in Sinnoh. They just didn’t have that there. Her mom gave her a Pokéball with Glameow on the route. Apparently she wanted Dawn to get used to throwing Pokéballs for a bit, and how to battle. She was due to start her journey once they came home, and she still couldn’t really throw the Pokéballs yet. Most instruction videos were for right handed people. Dawn wasn’t right handed. Her dad hadn’t been right handed either, if her mom was to be believed. At this point, Dawn could almost throw with her right hand, a basic aimed throw. Her left handed ones had little more flair, but she was proud of being able to use both hands when aiming. Barry certainly found it impressive. The sand on the route was a bit annoying, and Glameow certainly mewled in complaint, but she also liked Dawn, and all in all they managed to travel down the stretch of road and sand well. Dawn even got to fight a battle, with her mom’s permission. The hitchhiker she fought was very nice to her, and gave her a bit more prize money than necessary when she won.
----
Nimbasa was loud. So much louder than any other place, but it was a good loud. Dawn liked it. Liked the lights, the fairgrounds, the energy. After they checked into their hotel, Dawn had proceeded to drag her mom all over town. The queue for the ferris wheel wasn’t long, and Dawn spent the whole ride basically glued to the window. It made her mom laugh. It was over far too quickly for her liking. Still, onwards they went. The sports stadiums were massive on a scale Dawn only knew from recordings of the Galar League, the open ceilings daunting and in her eyes weird. Especially for Pokémon battles. The weather could interfere even without weather-altering moves. That didn’t seem fair to Dawn. She told her mom so, receiving a contemplative hum in return. Her mom apparently hadn’t considered it. In the end, they both declared the Galarians mad, before moving on to the Musical Theater. Her mom wanted to see how a musical compared to the contests back home. Dawn didn’t really understand why her mom liked those so much, but the musical was interesting. The choreography was neat, and Dawn even got to throw some flowers onto the stage. It was the last thing they did that day, and when they entered their hotel room, Dawn thought that had been a day well spent. Unova was so much cooler than Sinnoh.
----
That evening, they put on the TV in their room, and cuddled up on the bed. They switched channels for a while until they found a program about Unova’s best battlers. It would prove to be the one thing to forever change Dawn’s classic plan of going onto a journey just to see her region. She didn’t really know what kind of trainer she wanted to be. Barry knew what he wanted to be already. He wanted to be the champion. And why wouldn't he? His dad ran the Battle Frontier as a Tower Tycoon. Dawn just… didn't know. Research was a possible avenue, but that didn't speak to her nearly as much. Now though, as she sat in front of the TV with her mom, she was treated to the best of the best. Unova's gym leaders, their elite four, and finally, the leaders of the resident battle facility. For a moment she was confused, when only two people were on the screen. After all, just about every battle facility she heard of so far had at least four leaders. And yet, Unova only had two. She leaned closer. The announcer spoke of them being residents to Nimbasa, and how Gear Station and the Battle Subway were open to everyone and not just league winners. Slowly, a plan began to form in her mind. A plan only reinforced once the battles finally started. The leaders (Subway bosses, the announcer had called them) worked together like a well oiled machine, and Dawn couldn't help the fascination that built. On the side, her Mom made appreciative noises as well. Finally, once the program ended, Dawn turned to her mom.
"Mom? Can we visit the Battle Subway tomorrow?" Her mom said yes.
---
Gear Station was a busy place. Walking down the stairs from the entrance, Dawn saw so many more people than she thought possible. In one corner, people had set up instruments and were playing something that sounded like swing, with what looked like some employees laughing and dancing along a bit. Close by to that scene were the food courts and more people who milled about. Dawn took care not to let go of her mom's hand as they walked through the place, until they stopped at an information booth. Dawn barely listened, too much in awe of the place, as her mom asked if they would be able to enter the multi-line if Dawn didn't have a license, and if it would be okay for her to use her mom's team. The lady behind the counter set her mom's worries aside, and soon enough, Dawn got handed the Pokéballs for Glameow and Kangashkan by her mother, as they walked onto the platform of the multi-line. The resident depot-agent registered them after a short wait, before leading them to the subway train. Dawn palmed Glameow's Pokéball as the train started moving.
---
Dawn had always thought her mom's contest stuff was mainly to look pretty. Now she saw that that wasn't really the case, and that both Glameow and Umbreon hit hard and fast, while making it look ridiculously easy. Dawn alternated between throwing styles, and which Pokémon she sent out first, never quite sure what would work best. She wanted to see all the ways she could fight, and her mom indulged her gladly. Dawn wasn't bad at battling. Sure, she had passed her license exams, and was due to get it on her next birthday since she had been born literally a day after the cutoff for this year's class, but that hadn't been a proper battling environment. The subway was more challenging, people didn't take it easy on her and her mom just because she was young. Dawn liked it.
---
Seven wins. Fourteen wins. Twenty. They had spent all day inside subway cars, and somehow had gotten so far. Dawn would have to brag to Barry about that once she came home. She looked up at her mom, a wide and toothy grin on her face. Her mom mirrored her, albeit with a smaller smile. They healed their team, before they proceeded into the last car. Two people waited for them. Black and white, mirrors in just about every way. One frowned, one smiled like Dawn did. Toothy and wide. Too wide, maybe. There was a glint in his eyes that the show on TV hadn't managed to capture at all.
"Congratulations on making it this far." Oh. The black twin was loud.
"I am the Subway Boss Ingo. The fellow to my left is Emmet." The white twin took that as a sign to start talking.
"I am Emmet. As Ingo said, I am a Subway Boss. I run the Double Train. Today I will fight together with Ingo." He fixed his cap, eyes focused on Dawn.
"What I do. What I say. Always the same." Oh. Oh. Dawn felt herself mirror Emmet's widening grin. Felt herself palm Glameow's Pokéball.
"Follow the rules. Safe driving! Follow the schedule. Everybody smile! Check safety. Everything’s ready! Aim for victory! " On his side, Ingo began to move.
"Let us see if you shall reach victory today." Dawn felt giddy. They were like her. She recognized how Emmet talked. She did that. She clenched Glameow's Pokéball in her left hand. Opposite of her and her mom, the twins pointed. And then, they called. A call that Dawn would forever remember.
"ALL ABOARD!"
---
Emmet liked this girl. She had the look of someone who would go far. He recognized it from the mirror. He was reasonably sure she recognized him having it. She fought well, if clumsy. He remembered the way her registration had steadily climbed the leaderboard, until he and Ingo got the basic information on her and her partner. She was ten going on eleven. Sinnohan. No trainer license yet, born just after the cutoff date. She would start her journey at eleven. Her mother was a coordinator, officially retired. Emmet had an appreciation for contests. They used combinations. They used them well. This girl couldn't use them well yet. She would do so in time. For now, however, she would lose. Galvantula dealt the finishing blow. The Glameow her mother lent her fainted, and Emmet made a small note to himself that the girl had managed to make the Glameow last until it was the last team member still standing. She held out longer than her experienced mother.
"I am Emmet. You lost against me and Ingo today. That isn't bad. You were really strong! This was a fun battle." He felt his smile grow, and clapped.

Submas Autistic Joy Week 2022, Day 6: Special Interest/Teaching
A group of school children and their teacher take an excursion to Gear Station
"Now kids, remember to stay in line and listen to what the people at Gear Station have to say, yes?" The voices of the teacher and her class of children are loud enough to rival Ingo. It makes several Depot Agents look up, one raising her hand in a signal to inform the bosses.
"Hello and welcome to Gear Station!" She calls out to the teacher, putting on her best child-friendly smile. "You are the group from the Nimbasa Primary School, right?"
"Yes! Thank you so much again for making this possible." The teacher replies cheerfully, keeping all twenty children in check.
"The bosses will come in a moment. Until then, I'll be your guide. Come, I can show you the way to the meeting room." The Depot Agents clasps her hands behind her back. "For you kids, I'm Depot Agent Hana." A chorus of squeaky voices tells her hi, before she leads them into a Ducklett's March. "Boss Ingo? Boss Emmet? Your visitors are here!"
"We will arrive in a moment!"
---
Emmet claps his hands in delight.
"Alright, children. I am Subway Boss Emmet Carril. I work here, and I run the Subway with my brother Ingo."
"I am Ingo Carril. It's good to meet you all." Ingo gives a quick nod, making the children giggle a bit. "Your teacher told us that you are here today to learn about trains and how to ride them."
"That is verrry good!" Emmet nods. "Ingo and I know a lot about them! So we will try our best to teach you." His eyes swerve around, landing on a child with a raised arm.
"Yes?"
"Why do you talk so funny? You stretched that word all weird!" The child swings his legs, gap-toothed grin on full display.
"Is it weird? It's how I talk. I have done it for a long time." Emmet tilts his head. "That was rude of you."
"Sorry." It's a bit flippant, still earnest though.
"Apology accepted. Now, we have derailed! Ingo, if you would?" Emmet's smile stretches further.
"Ah, certainly. Now, let me tell you about Gear Station. Tell me if I use too many big words, I am not always aware I do so." Ingo hits a button on a remote, activating a projector. "This is Gear Station. You entered here when you came here, right?" Ingo taps a bit of the image projected onto the board. "That is the entrance. I'm sure you saw it while Depot Agent Hana led you here, but Gear Station is round." He switches the image. "We did not build Gear Station, and we have worked here for a long time now, but even we don't quite know why it's round." He winks at the children. "We have a few platforms inside Gear Station, and it's easy to know which is which. Does anyone have an idea why?" A few arms shoot up. "You there, please." Ingo points at a little girl.
"Do the trains have different names?" Her question makes a few children snicker.
"Not a bad idea! Some trains do have names, but we don't usually drive them here." He nods. "How about you?"
"Are there signs?" A boy this time, with hair sticking up wildly.
"There are! Very good. We have eight platforms here, and every platform has signs. There is another helpful thing though. Do you see these stripes here?" He zooms in on the picture. "Every stripe means something different, and they help you find where you need to go." Ingo nods, before stepping back and allowing Emmet to take over again.
"Now, Ingo said we have eight platforms here. Did you know that the subways here are not just for getting somewhere? We also have battle trains." Emmet starts, hands moving about as he talks. "There are two trains that you are not allowed to battle on. The train to Anville Town, and the Blue line." He hums for a moment. "These trains are not able to hold attacks! It's verrry dangerous."
"Now even a tackle?"
"No, not even that. Do you know why?" Emmet leans closer, a spark in his eye. "Pokémon are all verrrry strong! I saw a young Rattata defeat a full grown Charizard." Murmurs of awe.
"And that was only a small Rattata. Now imagine if a Bouffalant tackled the train! That won't be good. The train might fall over, and that will injure people."
"And we don't like having accidents. It's very bad if one happens, so always be very careful." Ingo adds.
"Yes! Not just in the trains! Also in Gear Station, but that is for later." Emmet taps his foot. "I said there are six Battle Lines. In every Battle Line, you can find Pokémon Trainers to fight against while the train moves. In two, you can only fight single battles. Ingo runs these trains! I run the Double lines, where you fight with two Pokémon at once. And together, we run the Multi lines, where you fight with a partner."
"So can you only ride those trains if you're a trainer?"
"No! You can ride them even when you aren't a trainer. But you are not allowed to enter the battle cars."

so, I've recently started reading this utterly glorious fic called "There's Blood on your lies" by HopeStoryteller on Ao3, where Cynthia becomes the protag of PLA. last chapter, Cynthia got mistaken for Volo due to having her hair tied back, and I had the urge to draw her, and that then became me drawing Volo as well, and their pokemon, togepi and Flint Jr. the Cyndaquil.

“I let you - I allowed you - to use me for your own purposes, to drag me further in the darkness and depths. But now, now I will do what I should’ve done all those years, what I should’ve done when you first began to extort me, take advantage of me. Who the final victim of the Professor should have been.”
Fanart for @browniefox’s fic, The Haunting of Ryunosuke Naruhodo! its been living in my head since it was posted
