What if Serena and Misty met during XY saga fanfic

So I made up a scenario about these two meeting that I am pretty thought was pretty cool a while back. With Rachel Lill's having recently passed and people talking more about characters she voiced (I had not known that she voiced at least 3 of my favorite anime characters from my childhood) I thought now might be a cool time to post it. Since I am not currently on A03 I am just going to post it here. This fic is written to be like an episode of the anime, but is told from the point of view of a narrator, because that is how I write. It contains both Ash&Misty and Ash&Serena friendships, that can be read as Pokkeshipping and Amourshipping if you squint hard enough. But I am not focusing on either ship, as Pokemon was first and foremost a buddy anime.

Things open with the four friends sitting a car being driven by Ash's mom Delia Katchem. We learn that her birthday was the day before and Ash, along with the XY gang flew back to Pallet down to celebrate it with her. They are now on their way to Cerulean city's airport to catch a flight back to the Kalos region. Delia thanks everyone for visiting and then does her whole fussy mom reminder to Ash about remembering to practice self-care. Ash blushes. Serena, Clemont, and Bonnie all laugh. After Delia drops the gang off they go to look at the flight schedule and discover that they got the date wrong and their flight actually leaves at this time tomorrow. Clemont says that they should go check into the nearest pokemon center for the night, rest there, and make plans for when they arrive back in the Kalos region. But Serena see's a poster on the wall Advertising that the famous Sensational Sisters are doing a show tonight at The Cerulean Gym. Serena says she has followed video's of the sisters online and really wants to go see a performance live. When Bonnie asks if any of the sisters are single and looking for a husband, Clemont starts insisting that just going to the pokemon center for the night is the better, more practical idea. Serena huffs and says she wants to see the show. Ash interrupts and says that he has an in with the Cerulean gym, and if they go before the show he can get them a tour of it. This decides it for everyone.

Cut to the group getting to the Cerulean gym. They come up to Misty who is out front, holding her Azurill, and practicing land fighting with her Gyarados. Misty has not noticed the group yet. Gyarados twists around does wrap, watergun, and flamethrower. Serena, Clemont, and Bonnie are freaked out. Ash and Pikachu are impressed. Misty tells Gyarados it did great and they can break, putting it back in its pokeball. At this Pikachu jumps off Ash, runs up to Misty, climbs up to her shoulder, and starts nuzzling her in greeting. Misty, very surprised, starts petting Pikachu and asks him how he got here. Then she notices Ash and his new friends. Ash walks towards her saying hello and complementing Gyarados. They do that high five handshake thing where they lock hands in the air. Misty says she had heard from Professor Oak that Ash was traveling in a different region. He tells her that he has been in the Kalos region battling gyms and meeting all sorts of really cool pokemon. He tells her he has one new one she will love, and sends out his Froakie/Frogadier/Greninja. Misty immediately starts fawning over it, and suggests a battle of the frogs between it and her Politoad.

Serena, Clemont, or Bonnie one start to feel ignored and coughs behind Ash and Misty. Ash then turns and introduced Misty to all three of his friends from Kalos and vice versa. You see Serena get surpirsed when she learns that Misty used to travel with Ash. Ash says that he promised his friends that Misty would give them a tour of her gym. A nervous look crosses Misty's face as she stutters that she is not sure if she can do a whole tour. But upon looking back at Ash and Pikachu she concedes that she can at least bring them all in and show them her other pokemon. Pkauchu introduces Dedenee and Azurill and the three start to play together as everyone goes inside to the big pool in the center of the gym.

The Kalos crew take it all in. Bonnie asks Clemont if they can install a pool at the battle tower too. Suddenly Psyduck comes running up to the gang quaking hello to everybody. Pikachu greets Psyduck in pokemon, and Ash tells it it "Hey nice to see you again Psyduck". After this Psyduck goes over to the edge of the pool, yells very loud, before jumping in, and immediately starts to sink. Ash runs to the edge of the pool ready to jump in after it, but Misty gets in his way and holds him back. Ash exclaims that "it looks like Psyduck still cannot swim". Misty smiles and tells Ash "wait for it". A few seconds later Psyduck rises from underneath the water clinging to something blue in red. Misty proudly introduces her new Tentacool. She explains that Tentacool has one tentacle shorter that the other, and struggled to keep up with its group in the wild. But that since coming here it and Psyduck have become fast friends. It likes to build its strength by carrying Psyduck through the pool, and Psyduck is not scared to be in the water if it is with Tentacool. There is some collective comments of the group of "How cool" and "Friends helping friends".

As Tentacool swims off with Psyduck, Misty leans over the Cerulean pool and shouts to all her other pokemon "Come out everyone. Show them how skilled and wonderful you are." We then get a montage of Misty's remaining pokemon jumping out of the water to perform for everybody. Goldeen and luvdisc have a who can jump the highest contest. Staryu and Corsola jump out and takle each other in a mock battle. Horsee sticks its head out and Misty points to a tarp on the wall and tells it to use sludge bomb. It then uses sludge bomb to write "Hello" on the tarp in Japanese calligraphy. Then Starmie climbs up onto one of the floating slabs, and Misty says that "Pikachu was actually the inspiration for Starmie's newest trick". Misty first has Starmie use bubble beam, then to everyone's surprise she tells it to use thunderbolt, which pops all the bubbles. After this Misty says she still has one pokemon left, and calls for a Surskit.

Ash, Clemont, and Bonnie all watch the show in amazement. Serena however only in part watching the show, and is mostly watching her friends, particularly, Ash react to Misty and her pokemon. When Ash had said he had a in with the Cerulean gym she thought that just meant Ash had battled there once before, and still had respect of the gym leader. She had had no idea that the current gym leader was a former traveling companion and close friend of Ash's from before she and he re-connected. She also did not know that Misty was both a well known mermaid and a powerful gym leader. The other's admiration and Serena's feelings insecurity start to build on her face, and boil over after Starmie's, pikachu inspired, performace. She has no desire to meet surskit, or to see whatever no doubt high quality performance it can put on. She sneaks away from the group and runs down random hallways trying to catch her breath and quiet her thoughts. When she comes to a random blacked out hallway she lets out a loud gasp.

Then it cuts back to the others. As it has only been a minute nobody has noticed Serena is gone yet. She also was maybe a bit to quick to assume Misty and Surskit make a skilled team. Misty keeps calling for Surskit and is getting more visibly frustrated with it not showing up. Ash asks Misty "When did you get a Surskit, and isn't that a bug type? Misty confirms that Surskit is a water/bug type. Her sister's gave it to her thinking that it could help her overcome her fear of bug pokemon. Misty then goes on to say that she is not scared of Surskit because, as she claims, "it does not have any of the creepy bug parts, or move in a scary bug way", but that "It still frustrates her to no end because it seems to have no motivation to battle, and will not listen to her in training". Suddenly Serena runs back to the group yelling for everybody. Clemont asks her "Where did you go?" and Ash asks her " Serena what's wrong". Serena shrugs them off and tells Misty "You needs to come with me".

Serena takes them to the hallway she went down and shows them the previously blacked out hallway. You can now see that it has been trashed, T-peed, and their is graffiti all over the walls. Misty is now red-faced, eyes closed, and stomping on the ground as she seethes "Oh no, not again, Uuuhhgg". When Misty is able to calm down a bit she admits that this has been happening for the past couple of weeks. Some one is trying to sabotage her gym for some reason. Her and her sisters have tried to catch the person but cannot, Officer Jenny also does not know who it is. She tells everybody how that lately she has been training some of her pokemon outside the gym entrance hoping to scare them away, but it looks like that hasn't worked either. If Misty cannot figure out who is doing this, and put a stop to them, then she will have to close down her gym. Ash says "No. What about all the trainers who want to come here to battle" and Serena echos "and fans who come here to watch performances". Clement goes over to some of the graffiti and sticks his fingers to it, exclaiming that "The paint is still wet and this is all freshly done". Bonnie says that "maybe that means whoever did it may still be in the building and we can still catch them". All five trainers search the building , checking hallways, closets, and cabinets but they come up with zip. They conclude that that the vandals must have snuck in through a window while Misty was practicing outside, trashed the hall, and then snuck out while she was talking to them. Misty sighs defeated and says she'll have to close the gym down and cancel the show tonight, because she is not going to risk putting it on just so these mysterious vandals can show up and ruin it.

Bonnie yells "No!"this time, and suggests that they still do the show but set traps for the vandals, near where they have been sneaking in. This prompts Clemont to do his whole "The future is now thanks to science" gimmick, and bring out a new trap based invention bot thing that he assures everyone will defiantly catch the vandals when sprung. Misty argues that she still cannot do the show and be waiting by the trap for the vandals to step in. Serena quietly whispers "What if I do the show in your place". The others all hear and turn to her. Ash immediately say that that is a great idea. Misty is not convinced and asks Serena "Have you ever been a water ballet before?". Playing with her fingers and staring at the floor, Serena admits "No". Ash jumps in again saying "Serena knows how to swim and is an amazing dancer. This plan is our best bet for catching the vandals and keeping the gym open. Give her a chance". Ash's faith in her gives Serena the courage to stop playing with her hands and turn her head up to look Misty in the eye. "I know ballet" she says; "And while I have never been in a water Ballet before I have always been able to pick dances up quickly. Give me a chance". Misty says that her sister "Daisy will be here in a little bit do do a dress rehearsal before the show. If Serena can learn the dance to Daisy's approval, and we can get the traps set up in time then we'll go ahead with your plan". Outside Team Rocket are hiding in a tree, spying on the "Twerps" with their binoculars. Meowth comes up with the plan to steel all of Cerulean's pokemon, and Pikachu, by taking advantage of the fact that everyone will be so busy being on guard to catch the vandals that none of them will remember to be on guard for Team Rocket.

Cut to the dress rehearsal with Daisy teaching Serena and Bonnie the routine. A few of Ceruleans pokemon are there as well. Dewgong is Bonnie's new friend. Daisy praises the girls dancing. She believes they will do well in her show. Bonnie happily throws her arms around Dewgong. In the corner of her eye Serena see's a small figure peeking out from behind a corner. She crosses the room and kneels down in front of the corner and gently says hello to whoever is hiding there then asks it to "please come on out. Would you like to dance with me?". Out crawls the same Surskit that Misty was looking for earlier. Daisy see surskit and loses her smile. She tells Serena that "Surskit does not know the routine", and "Misty has already told me it is a bad listener and I do not allow those in my performances". Serena is now standing up, holding Surskit in her arms. She tells Daisy to "let Surskit try dancing in the rehearsal and that if it does not listen than you do not have to let it dance again". Cut back to Ash, Misty, and Clemont. They are going through the gym setting up noise based alarms at various windows and other secondary places the vandals could be breaking in through. They also assign pokemon at these spots to act as watchmen. Once they are done they go to lay Clemont's big trap out in front of an old back exit that Misty believes is probably what the vandals go through most of the time.

As they walk away Team Rocket (who have painted themselves the same color as the gym walls and are holding paintings and potted plants over their faces) sneak past them the trio and head to a room in the at the other end of the a long hall to try and start nabbing whatever pokemon they can. They step over the noise alarm and grab Misty's Nemo Tentacool from a fish tank it was sitting watch in. Tentacool calls for help and Psyduck comes running in, it trips the trap. Psyduck charges seemingly at Team Rocket but misses completely and rams itself into a wall. Jessie and Meowth both laugh at it. James tells them "Hold on. That is the original twerpets Psyduck. Why do I feel like their is something we are supposed to remember about its head?" Wobbuffet goes "Wuba wuba". Meowth more confused translated "Headaches make it stronger?". They all turn to Psyduck who's eyes have turned blue and its body is gathering strength. Suddenly it lets lose a massive confusion attack that picks all four of them up and throws them out the window and blasting off again. After this Ash, Misty, and Clemont run in, to see what all the noise was. They find Psyduck trying to put Tentacool back in the fish tank with a piece of the alarm stuck to its foot. There is no sign of team Rocket having been there , and all three think that Psyduck must have just tripped when coming to visit Tentacool.

Now Flash to that night. The crowd is starting to come in and fill out the seats. Misty's other two sisters, Lily and Violet are taking tickets up front and keeping a look out in case anyone suspicious is tries to come in form the front. All the alarms and traps are set, and pokemon lay in hiding places all throughout the gym ready to battle for its defense if the need comes. Currently the whole group is behind the curtain waiting for the show to start. Serena, who's is dressed as (not a mermaid) a Princess, is watching the crowd spill in and is starting to get butterflies. She tells Ash "I wish you could stay and watch the performance. I always feel better when I see you in the crowd". Ash reassures her that"You'll l do great, and I promise that we will catch the vandals really quick. Once that is done they will come right into the audience", he points to some empty seats near the top, "and watch You and Bonnie dance". Daisy calls for "everyone who's not in the show to get out and everyone in the show to take their places".

After this Ash Misty and Clemont, Pikachu, and Clemont's Chespin all go to where they Misty thinks the vandals are most likely to be getting in through and they set Clemont's big bot trap. Clemont is hides behind the his invention so he can activate it if/when the vandals come. Chespin and Pikachu are with him. Ash and Misty are behind a corner in case there are multiple vandals and one slips through. It is very dark in the hallway. Suddenly they hear the sound of the lock being jiggled and the door being banged on till it opens. Footsteps come in and a smug voice makes comments at how "stupid" and "flimsy" Cerulean's locks are. Another voice laughs and chims in that "it's like they want to be broken into". Suddenly pikachu lights the room up and Clemont pulls the switch for his Trap bot. Because it was built by Clemont is of course malfunctions completely and traps him, Chespin, and Pikachu instead. Pikachu is still admitting sparks from its cheeks to light the room and in the light you can see three intruders trash bags and spray paint. It is actually Kim, Kail, and Kai

Misty fuming storms into the light and yells "You creeps again"

Ash following Misty "You know these guys Misty?"

Misty "Unfortunately yes. They call themselves "The Invincible Pokemon Brothers. They tried to take control of the gym when I first started running it. But they failed big time".

Kim: "Well if we can't take the Cerulean Gym from you, then we'll make sure your unable to stay open". With that he and his brothers each bring out a pokeball and send out Hitmonchan, Hitmonlee, and Hitmontop. "You have no hope of defeating us. We out number you three to two."

Ash: "We may be out numbered but you are outmatched." With that he takes out a pokebell and turns to Misty. "It looks like our battle this time will be us vs them. Are you alright settling for that".

Misty has out one of her own pokeballs and smiles as she replies "This is just like old times".

Ash throws out Froakie/Frogadier/Greninja, and Misty throws out Politoad. So the battle of the frogs becomes the battle of the frogs vs fighting types. The frog duo make short work of the three fighting types , and send them and their trainers blasting off into the night.

With that done we cut to Clemont, Ash and Misty now taking here seat to watch the remainder of the show. They are sitting near the top of the bleachers and look down to the stage. Serena is dancing around on one of the starmie water platforms, with Surskit as her dance partner. Dewgong is swimming circles around it, and Bonnie is riding on his back and using her arms to dance. various cerulean pokemon are either jumping out of the water around then, or using watergun and bubble beam to create special effects. Clemont and Ash start clapping. Ash even calls out "Go Serena, Go Bonnie!". Misty watches Serena and Surskit and she gets a look of realization that morphs into hesitation, that then morphs into reassurance after she glances back at Ash.

Now we cut to early the next day with Ash, Serena, Clemont, Bonnie, and their pokemon set to leave and head to the airport. Azurill is crying over Pikachu and Dedenne having to leave, which makes Dedenne start crying too, and Pikachu is trying to comfort both of them. Dasiy gives Bonnie some flowers as a thank you for being in their show. Bonnie tells her "Being in your show was a lot of fun. When I get older I am going to be in lots of battle, and lots of shows too". Clemont tells Daisy was overall very impressed with the Cerulean gym, but he thinks they can upgrade its tech. He tells Daisy to please call him sometime and he would be happy to send over some of his inventions that he thinks they would get optimal benefit from. At this Bonnie is side eyeing Clemont with big eyes because she thinks he may have a crush on Daisy. He does not. He is just being nice. Daisy chuckles awkwardly and, clearly lying, says that she will make sure to do that sometime. Misty then comes out to say goodbye. Ash and her do another high five- handshake and lock hand in the air. Misty wishes Ash good luck in his upcoming gym battles. Ash wishes her the same, then promises that he will come back again soon and they can have another battle against each other then.

Then Misty walks toward Serena. Serena is a lot more comfortable around Misty than she was the morning before. She tells Misty that she is glad the Cerulean Gym will be able to stay open, and that she really admires that Misty is able to juggle battling challengers as Gym leader and being in the Cerulean performaces. Both seem like such big roles, and Serena isn't sure she could manage a double load like that. Misty remarks that Ash told her Serena competes in showcases in Kalos, and that those involve lots of dancing and performing right?Serena tells her that is right, and that her dream is to one day be a Kalos Queen. Misty then tells Serena she has something for her as a Thank you for being in the show and reaches into her pocket to bring something out. Serena holds her own hand out , expecting at most to get a piece of paper with all four Cerulean sisters autographs. She is very surprised when Misty drops a pokeball into her hand. Serena presses the button to open it and out comes Surskit. "Surskit? Whhaatt?" Serena stammers looking at Misty.

Misty looks at the ground and Answers " I have spent weeks trying to get Surskit to train for gym battles and never cooperates. I thought it had no motivation for anything but last night proved it does love dance. The thing is that performing in the plays is only my side job. I cannot keep a pokemon on my team that won't also battle." Misty looks back at Serena and "So I think the figure the best thing for Surskit wold be to go to the Kalos region with you and work to become a Kalos star." Serena hold Surskits pokeball to her chest. She promises Misty that she will train with Surskit as much as she can and that one day they will both be Stars.

The End

Epilogue on how this would effect both Serena and Misty's stories (Because it would not really effect Ash, Clemont, or Bonnie's).

If I had written Serena's character in the XYZ series she would have had the same number of pokemon as May and Dawn ( I say that three pokemon is to little for a lead character who competes in tournaments). Another pokemon I would have given her is Kalos's regional butterfly (If that is not a thing I a making it one): Vivillion. Pokeball forum Vivillon to be specific I imagine Surskit would become good friends with Vivillion. Surskit would also evolve into Masquerain pretty fast with Serena, since it was finally training for something it was passionate about. After this Serena would use Vivillion and Masquerain together in showcases and they would flutter around her while she dances, using moves for special effects The crowds would eat it up. I also imagine that as a more experienced dancer, who shares its love for the craft, Masquerain might also develop a bit of a mentor type role to Sereena's eevee when it first joins the team, and is working on overcoming its stage fright.

As for Misty well Surskit was originally given to her to help her overcome her fear of bugs. But that did not happen then. She would need to catch a different bug/water pokemon. I think that when she visits Alola in Sun & Moon the gang would tell her how Lillie used to be afraid to touch pokemon for a while, but that raising her from an egg helped her bond with her, and her bond with Snowy helped er stop being afraid. On the island Ash takes everyone to Misty would find an abandoned Wimpod egg, and Lillie's story would encourage Misty to keep and try to raise it. I would also have Brock and Misty show up as background characters in exactly one episode of Pokemon Journeys (which both are surprisingly absent from) Season 25, episode 22 "Helping the Hometown Hero". That is the episode where Ash and Lilli's family bring her father back to Alola and the town throws a party for it, as well as the fact that Ash made it into The Master's Eight tournament, during which he was representing Alola as their first Champion. Brock and Misty would attend both and while they would not play more than background roles you would maybe see Brock try to give Olivia some flowers at the party, then sit next to her at the battle brawl, to show he is still trying to get her to date him. Misty meanwhile would have Psyduck next to her and her Azurill and a shiny Wimpod would either both be on toddler leashes that they were holding (Misty holding Wimpods and Psyduck holding Azurill's), or if Japanese culture does not do toddler leashes Misty would have both her pokemon babies in a stroller.

Welcome back to my series covering the real life origins of all non-fish aquatic Pokemon. Today we will be finishing generation I. See the first part of Generation I here and the fish of generation I here.

The Krabby line are crabs. There’s really not much more to them than that. Well Kingler having one claw larger than the other is a reference to several species of crab with that trait, perhaps most famously the fiddler crab.

Fiddler crabs, of which there are many species, have evolved a form of sexual dimorphism where the male has one claw that is much larger than the other. Males use their claws for sexual selection, both by waving the claw to attract females and fighting rival males. The crown of spikes on it can reference many spiny crabs, especially the king crab.

Gigantmax Kingler’s massive size and long, spindly legs could be a reference to the Japanese spider crab, which has the longest legspan of any crab. The bubbles are there because crabs will blow bubbles over their gills while on land.

Starmie and Staryu are stylized starfish and much like real starfish, they are radially symmetrical and can regenerate any lost arms as long as the center is intact. Real starfish have such efficient regeneration that if you cut one in half, as long as enough of the central disc in intact, you will get two starfish.

Starmie and Staryu are heavily implied to be aliens, meaning they are likely also a reference to the common five-pointed star and shooting stars. Starfish have been compared to aliens before due to how strange they are to our vertebrate-centered view of life. Most starfish have five arms like Staryu, but a few have more, like Starmie (they still have 5 radial body segments, just more than one arm per segment. The line’s tendency to swim by rapidly rotating their bodies and their good speed stats could reference propellers and shuriken. The gems flashing, acting as their hearts, and firing beam attacks may all reference the flashing chest-mounted gems found in the Ultraman series.

I covered Magikarp in my fish posts, but didn’t cover Gyarados then as I don’t think it’s a fish. I think it’s a combination sea serpent and eastern dragon. It has the serpentine, limbless shape of sea serpents and the whiskers and carp connection of dragons. Eastern dragons are generally considered benevolent, but can be extremely dangerous when angered. They can also typically fly despite being wingless, fitting Gyarados having the flying type and actually flying around the sky in Legends: Arceus. Eastern dragons are often depited as having long barbels like those of carp and catfish.

Gyarados evolving from Magikarp is a reference to a Chinese legend where a carp that jumps over a waterfall will turn into a dragon. If Gyarados has the appearance of an eastern dragon, it has the violent temperament of a western dragon. It’s violent and easily angered temperament is similar to legends of sea monsters attacking and destroying ships. Side note: Gyarados’s English name was originally going to be Skulkraken, which is one of the most metal things I’ve ever heard. Mega Gyarados looks a lot like carp streamers, which makes it amusing that the form based on a wind sock loses the flying type.

Lapras is one of my favorite Pokemon of all time and its origin is suitably interesting. It’s based on famous lake cryptids like the Loch Ness monster, which are often depicted as looking like outdated reconstructions of plesiosaurs. Plesiosaurs were marine reptiles that coexisted with dinosaurs, but were not dinosaurs themselves. The most famous plesiosaurs, which Lapras is based on, had long necks.

Outdated reconstructions of plesiosaurs, often depicted them as being able to hold their necks out of the water in what is often described as a swan neck pose, much like Lapras’s neck. We now know that their necks were not nearly flexible enough to do that. I initially thought that Lapras’s shell was a reference to sea turtles, but it turns out it comes from the placodonts, close relatives to plesiosaurs who had bony plates on their backs that in some species developed to look a lot like turtle shells.

Some placodonts also had bony protrusions on their skulls, much like Lapras’s horn. Lapras’s neck and rideability could also reference the mastheads of Viking longships. Lapras being very intelligent and singing is a clear reference to whales. In early generations, Lapras was endangered due to overhunting, which could reference species like the right whale, who were badly overhunted and have never fully recovered. Gigantamax Lapras having that shell shape and sheet music lines makes me think it’s a reference to that shell-looking musical instrument from the 2nd movie.

Alright, we’re talking about Vaporeon now, so I expect you to be normal about this, ok? Like the other Eevees, Vaporeon is a mishmash of various animals. Like Eevee, it has dog, cat, and fox traits, but it also adds dolphin and fish-like traits. We actually have the word of one of the designers, who says it was designed with mermaids in mind, hence the combination of mammal and fish traits. It may also represent transitional forms between land-dwelling animals and cetaceans, such as Remingtonocetus or Kutchicetus.

The fringe around its neck is the aquatic form of Eevee’s neck ruff, but also makes it look like a sea-lion. No, not the real animals, but a lion mermaid used as a heraldic symbol.

It may also be one big catfish pun. Vaporeon’s ability to turn into water could reference mythical water spirits like naiads.

Omanyte and Omastar are based on ammonites, prehistoric shelled cephalopods that look very similar to, but are not closely related to, the modern nautilus.

Like the nautilus, ammonites could float in the water column using gas-filled chambers in the shell, contrasting the Omanyte line, who are usually depicted as bottom-dwellers. Ammonites would have had the shell opening pointed horizontally, with the tentacles used for grabbing food and a siphon used for propulsion. The Omanyte line instead has the shell opening down and the tentacles used to crawl around. Like any proper cephalopod, Omastar has a powerful beak that it uses to eat. Ammonites first evolved in the Devonian period and made it all the way to the end of the Cretaceous, where they met their end along with the non-avian dinosaurs.

Kabuto is a mix of the horseshoe crab and trilobites. Horseshoe crabs (which you can read about here) are still around now, but they are considered living fossils (a misleading term as the species alive today are not the same as fossil species). Kabuto looks like the carapace of a horseshoe crab, minus the second body segment and tail.

Horseshoe crabs also have two large eyes on the top of the shell looking up, just like the two dots on Kabuto, and more eyes on the underside looking down. Trilobites had segmented bodies while Kabuto doesn’t. Upon evolving, it takes on some major praying mantis inspiration, but at the same time, it looks a bit more like a triobite. Its head looks like a cephalon of a trilobite, possibly one of the genus Cheirurus, which had some large spikes on the cephalon.

The body is segmented like a trilobites. Kabutops also takes inspiration from eurypterids, relatives of horseshoe crabs that had segmented bodies and large limbs used for hunting or swimming.

Kabutops’s head also looks a bit like a samurai helmet (and the Japanese word for helmet is “kabuto”), and that combined with its sword-like limbs may give it some samurai influence.

Finishing out gen I is the Dratini line, which serve as counterparts to Gyarados. They are also based on a combination of sea serpents and eastern dragons, but while Gyarados is destructive and violent, the Dratini line are reclusive and gentle. Like many eastern dragon myths Dreatini and Dragonair live underwater and/or behind waterfalls and Dragonair has weather control abilities. Dragonite switches to a western dragon, with 4 limbs and wings, but still retains some eastern dragon traits with its serpentine body, ability to live underwater, antennae that look a lot like barbels, and generally gentle behavior. Interestingly, Gyarados has the eastern dragon look but western dragon behavior while Dragonite has the western dragon look and eastern dragon behavior.

Next time, I'll cover the aquatic Pokémon from generation II. In the future I probably wont have to split generations up like this as the other gens don't have as many aquatic mons to cover

What kinds of pokemon do the grunts of each past and present Yonko crew have?

I want to see the pokemon of people besides the big players 😅

For the Yonko's crews, the grunts have their own individual teams based on preference. Generally the higher up you are, the better Pokemon you have. Of course each crew has some Pokemon that are popular among the crews. Some mimicking their higher up idols.

Big Mom: Well you've got the food based Pokemon of course. You'll commonly see these Pokemon and their evolutions. Combee, Exeggcute, Swirlix, the elemental monkeys, Pumpkaboo, Milcery, Fidough, Smoliv and Nacli. Pokemon good at finding food are popular too like Swinub, Skovet, Lillipup and Lechonk lines.

Kaido: This crews aim is to get dragon types and fossil Pokemon. Obtaining one of these can lead to a promotion. Cyclizar and Tatsugiri are the two dragons types commonly found amongst grunt level. Kaido ate the Gyarados fruit so you get a lot of cred if raise a Magikarp into a mighty, trained Gyarados. Horned Pokemon are popular too to fit the fashion such as - Nidorans, Rhyhorn, Gastrodon (west), Venipede and Skiddo. Black Maria fans has Spinarak's. Who's Who fans have cats like Meowth and Skitty.

Whitebeard Pirates: Much more varied on Pokemon than the previous two crews. Rare Pokemon weren't taken and given to higher ups. Catch it, it's yours. They liked to catch Pokemon with moustaches to tease Whitebeard. They would have annual contests for Pokemon with the best moustache. Common entries - Alolan Rattata, Kadabra/ Alakazam, Alolan Golem, Sealo, Kricketune, Herdier/Stoutland, Mienshao, Jillicent, Drampa, Thievul, Mr. Rime and Mabosstiff.

Red-Haired Pirates: Shanks encourages his crew to have at least one Pokemon good with water. Seems sensible for a pirate right? Most common are - Seaking, Floatzel, Wishiwashi, Lanturn, Azumarill, Swanna and Mantine.

Buggy: Pokemon with red noses or feature a red ball shape are common to celebrate their dashing Captain's glorious nose. Such as - Diglett, Ampharos, Nosepass, Spoink, Bidoof, Mime Jr. and Minior (red core.) Plusle and Minun are also popular to cheer on their Captain.

Blackbeard: He wants rare and powerful. For grunts to get anywhere they need Pokemon that can steal and kill. Such as - Arbok, Persserker, Skuntank, Tentacruel, Paldean Tauros, Houndoom, Sharpedo, Liepard, Excadrill, Basculin, Galarian Stunfisk, Honedge, Thievul and Barraskewda. Slugma are bred to burn down ships. Grunts will often leave them to drown.

Four Days, A Fortnight, Or Forever

When Shuichi's parents fail to meet him on a planned trip, he meets someone else instead; a carefree bird keeper that inspires him to live a little.

They met on a cruise. It was one of the rare times his parents had requested his presence for something and Shuichi had actually been eager to spend time with them, only for them both to bow out at the last minute. They were both famous Pokemon trainers and spent more time traveling the word than they did with him. His mother was busy winning contests while his father was battling gym leaders. Shuichi was disappointed and annoyed, having expected to meet them on the ship and getting the call that they couldn’t be there only minutes before departure. There hadn’t been enough time for him to leave, so he resigned himself to four boring days trapped on a boat with strangers.

The first day he locked himself in his room, levitating his pokeballs and staring at the window, only coming out that night when he expected most of the other passengers to be asleep. It was when Shuichi went to the deck that he saw him; short green hair, jacket billowing in the wind, and arms thrown out in front of him. He was balancing rather precariously over the edge of the railing as he tossed bits of food in the air for Wingull and Pelipper, and dropped a few larger pieces for a Gyarados that was racing beside the ship. Shuichi’s breath caught at the sight of him, careless and beautiful and free, all the things Shuichi had never been.

He must have made some sound that he didn't notice, because the boy turned toward him sharply, causing him to lose his grip and tip over the edge. Shuichi would never forget the boy’s expression, surprised but unafraid, his eyes meeting Shuichi’s and not looking away for a moment even as he slid toward his doom.

Shuichi reacted as quickly as he could, hand reaching toward him as he grabbed the boy with his power and held him in place. Shuichi wasn't the only one to reach for him though. Two Wingull had plucked the boy’s sleeves and a Pelipper flew beneath him, all prepared to keep him from falling.

"Oh!" His voice was soothing and pleasant, and he had a smile to match. "That's a handy trick."

Shuichi understood why he hadn't been afraid. The pokemon around him wouldn't have let him fall even if Shuichi hadn't been there. Shuichi rubbed the back of his neck, feeling silly and a little useless as he lowered the boy back to solid ground. "Um, sorry."

The boy laughed as he took long strides toward Shuichi. "Don't be sorry! That was pretty cool." His eyes matched his hair, even in the dark, and he had several piercings. he leaned toward Shuichi with a smile, close enough to touch, but only barely. "I'm Rantaro Amami, how do you do?"

"Sh-Shuichi Saihara," he stammered, feeling even more like a fool for fumbling his own name.

"Hmm. Shuichi," he repeated softly. He closed his eyes, mouthing the name once or twice before nodding. “Alright. I won’t forget it.”

"Why would you want to remember?" He asked without thinking, pressing a hand to his lips right after. There were so many more normal things he could have asked, of course it would be the weird question that came out instead.

"Why would I want to forget the name of someone that saved me?" Rantaro asked him with a smile. He had kind eyes, Shuichi felt himself being drawn into them.

"The pokemon would have caught you," Shuichi said softly.

"That's not the point," he insisted. He took a few careful steps forward, measured and slow as if watching to see if Shuichi would recoil from him. He didn’t, too curious to see what the boy wanted to do to worry about the way the space between them was closing. He took Shuichi’s hand as he added, “You wanted to help me. It was rather sweet of you. So, thank you. I mean it.” He winked. "And it was also really cool."

Shuichi wasn't sure what to say to that. He followed Rantaro when he guided them both back toward the ship's railing, and accepted the pokemon food that was poured in his hand. Shuichi followed Rantaro’s lead and tossed pieces to the Wingulls that were still hovering around. It was an odd way to spend the time, but not an unpleasant one.

When Shuichi returned to the deck the following nights, he was pleased to find that Rantaro was always there. Shuichi watched him dance in a circle of Swablu on the second night, listened to him sing a duet with a Noctowl on the third, and on the forth night all the birds flew away when they saw him approach.

"Sorry, I scared them off," he said.

Rantaro shook his head, standing and dusting off his clothes from where he'd been sitting on the floor. "Not at all, I asked them to give us some privacy."

"Huh?"

He leaned against the railing, tilting so far back that Shuichi worried a wave would knock him off his feet. There weren't any birds around to catch him this time and Shuichi found himself watching closely so that his reflexes would be in time to catch Rantaro should the need arise. "If things go as they are, this will be our last night together, right?" Rantaro asked.

"Yeah, I guess so." The idea was a little disheartening, more than Shuichi expected it to be. He had expected this entire trip to be boring, filled with thoughts of his parents and wondering what they had decided to do instead of spending time with him, but instead he actually managed to actually have fun.

"So what if... we changed things?" He asked softly. He lifted his head, watching Shuichi closely as he asked, "What if... this wasn't the last time?"

The wind picked up, a breeze ruffling his hair around him and blowing Shuichi’s bangs into his face. He lifted a hand to hold them out of the way, watching Rantaro almost as closely as Rantaro seemed to be watching him. "What are you..."

"You haven't looked happy to be here a single day of this cruise," he told him. "The only times I've seen you smile is at the Pokemon. Whoever put you up to this... sucks." He smiled to soften the words, but Shuichi still felt them like a blow.

He winced, looking away as he muttered, "It was supposed to be a trip with my parents."

He saw Rantaro move out the corner of his eye and turned to watch, mind boggling as he hauled himself up to sit on the thin railing. "Mine too," he admitted. He took a deep breath, holding to the railing tightly as he closed his eyes. "They were supposed to be coming home a month ago. That changed to us taking this little vacation together, which became them meeting me at the port." He smiled but there wasn’t any joy to it for once. Shuichi was sure he was more nervous about a potential fall than Rantaro was, but it didn't stop him from leaning forward in case he needed to put an arm out to catch him. "And what do you think the odds are that they'll meet me at port?"

If they were anything like his own parents, it was probably a very slim chance. He didn't seem distressed though, just accepting. "How do you do that?" Shuichi asked softly.

"Hmm?"

"Aren’t you disappointed?"

Rantaro looked up to the sky. A wave made him rock unexpectedly back. Shuichi jerked forward, hands on either side of Rantaro to hold him steady if needed, while Rantaro didn't change position at all, aside from how the boat moved him. He seemed surprisingly used to the sea. He smiled, but didn't turn his head away from the sky. Shuichi felt his face heating up. He wasn't being over protective when Rantaro was sitting on the ship's rail and could fall off at any moment, but his nonchalance in comparison made Shuichi feel silly all the same.

"Come with me, Shuichi? Let's visit all the places our parents can't. We'll take pictures and send post cards, we can feed pokemon together and go exploring, and the next time they ask you to be somewhere they don't show up to, it won't hurt so much." He met Shuichi’s eyes. "Because you'll be having fun."

He made it sound so mesmerizing that Shuichi almost forgot that it was completely ridiculous. Almost. "I don't know where you're going."

"We can go anywhere," he replied. "I'm a Bird Keeper, in a pinch, I could even fly us someplace."

"I just met you," he said, more to himself than to Rantaro. He'd never thought about just... leaving before. Not without having some excuse.

"Yeah, and it would be a shame to part so quickly, don't you think?" He leaned forward again, hands tight on the rail and keeping himself firmly in place. "It could be for a week while you make your parents wonder... it could be for longer, if you start to have fun. The possibilities are endless, you know."

Shuichi thought about it. He'd always wanted to take the gym challenge, always wanted to do more than stay trapped back at home. And yet, something had always made him feel like he just couldn't. It was... odd to meet a person that made him feel like he just could. Like he could just up and decide to... live his own life.

His parents had done that. Why shouldn't he?

Rantaro slipped off the railing and they were suddenly standing very close to each other. "Well, what do you say? Will this be the last day or the first?"

Just like the first time, there was something mesmerizing about Rantaro. His eyes, his stance, they were all so confident, so calm. Shuichi had never felt so calm around anyone. He’d never felt on the verge of flying before.

"The first?" he repeated in confusion. "We've known each other for four days already."

Rantaro laughed, warm and open. It made Shuichi feel lighter, like he wanted Shuichi to laugh with him and not like he was being mocked. "The first day of our journey," Rantaro told him. "Which one?" He held his hand out, looking hopeful.

Shuichi hesitated only a moment more before reaching out to take Rantaro's hand. "The first," he answered.

Rantaro's smile brightened and he leaned closer. "I’m glad.” His eyes dropped to their clasped hands and his voice got softer as he said, "The last person that I asked... they said no. So thank you."

Shuichi didn't know what to say to that, so he just squeezed Rantaro’s hand once before withdrawing. It seemed to be enough, as he leaned against the railing beside Shuichi quietly. He was looking forward to seeing what this Bird Keeper could show him.

this is so silly but seeing starter headcanons reminded me of my own and it’s really silly tbh

it’s hard to explain in full without just absolutely infodumping about how i think Lance’s family dynamic works and every detail about them but i PROMISE it’s all connected in some meaningful way. and if i infodump anyways? im so sorry 😭

but ive always headcanoned he raised at least one of his Dragonites from an egg, but it wasn’t his first. my headcanon is that his first Pokémon was actually a magikarp when he was a wee small child on his birthday. to get into the fam dynamic for a moment, my headcanons are whacky but im the captain of this ship and im going down with it. his mom was a blackthorn dragon trainer and his dad was a random flying specialist and delivery guy and yada yada you know how the rest goes. but the parentals decided the best way to bring themselves together for such an important gift was to give him an almost-dragon with a flying typing thrown in it. but maybe not tell little baby Lance what he’s in store for right off the bat. too young to realize magikarp —> gyarados he was not too thrilled about getting Some Fish as his first. dad would always say though: “be patient little one! you’ll understand soon enough”. and it was a STRUGGLE (no pun intended[?])for the longest time Little Lance struggled hard to make any sort of progress. tragedy struck before the magikarp could evolve which takes Dad Man out of the picture. but when the magikarp finally evolved it was like everything clicked and made sense for Lance, for once things made sense. The gift that kept on giving with some love and patience, and I’d like to think this sort of “exercise” taught him what unconditional love meant at such a young age <//3. so in my messed up world, Lance’s oldest Pokémon is the (blue) gyarados!

bonus: this made the red gyarados event hit home way harder than ever, and boy did it hurt lance to see that since he has such a profound soft spot for magikarps and gyarados (bonus bonus(??) if he reacts poorly to people even joking about mistreating a magikarp even in the slightest)

bonus x3: before Lance’s first magikarp evolved, he found out how to make roses out of it’s shed scales and would give these “scale flowers” to his mom to try and cheer her up because that Tragedy really really got to her. little guy was trying his best.

SO SORRY FOR THE LONG RAMBLE ive been thinking about this for almost 2 years it’s actually insane. —🐌

I'm totally with you anon, Lance brain dump is an addiction, but I'm all here for it. 💪

But anywho, I ADORE this idea!! Lance always reminded me personally of a strong, fierce, Gyarados, but where does a Gyarados come from but a weak frail Magikarp? Lance never strikes me as a "prodigy" child, however, one who suffered immensely and had to work so much for where he is now.

Your idea of his parents being there for him and then half of them being suddenly taken away, (hey btw what is THE TRAGEDY? 👁 ), must've been so rough for him and I can only imagine the stress in his trainer life only became more difficult.

Also, Scale Flowers are soo sweet aaaah. <33

Gyarados will always be Lance's most personal Pokemon to me. They just have so much in common man. :')

Since it's topical with the fic and all, how about Sayaka if you haven't done this for a meme before?

gladly!!! i don't remember doing anything like this with sayaka so this'll be my first time with it!

Sexuality Headcanon: Asexual, borderline Ace but she's mostly just going to be rather sex repulsed due to ~idol industry bullshit~ at first and then finding she wants to be loved, but also just finding along the way that like. ...Oh yeah no, I'm. Actually asexual. Like that didn't help but okay! Cool.

Gender Headcanon: Cis girl! I don't really see her having any sort of desire to explore her gender, and it'd probably be heavily discouraged for. Obvious reasons by her managers. I think she might have a brief she/they phase in the future but she'll be one of the cis people who unlock cis+.

A ship I have with said character: Look. I want Sayaka and Celes to be the messiest girlfriends. Those girls are a fucking disaster soap opera waiting to happen and I want to watch them destroy one another. Manipulation, murder, the whole nine yards babey.

A BROTP I have with said character: Honestly. In a better life, I could see her and Chihiro being solid friends. Starts as Sayaka going to Chihiro for some coding advice for one of her managers but they hit it off and become besties.

A NOTP I have with said character: Oh fandom may not like me for this but. I do not ship most of the major ships for Sayaka. Naegi/Sayaka is not nearly portrayed as fucked up as it should be in my eyes, Leon/Sayaka just flat out gets all of my dislike, and Sayaka/Mukuro, while intriguing, just...does not spark joy and yet seems to be everywhere.

A random headcanon: Sayaka's favorite Pokemon is Magikarp! She never wound up owning a system to play any Pokemon games herself (and didn't have a lot of time besides!), but so many fans proceeded to ask her that her managers had her look at a poster of the first 151 Pokemon and she picked the pathetic orange fish. She loves it dearly, and while she claims that Gyarados is scary, she's actually just as fond of Gyarados as she is of Magikarp.

General Opinion over said character: I am so normal about Sayaka Maizono, Cheebs. So normal. Promise. Anyway I have been a fan of this girl for well over a decade at this point, this is my emotional support minor character and I want to watch her either be happy or be miserable. Sayaka Maizono is my favorite fidget toy and boy howdy can I talk about this girl.

UT POKÉMON TEAMS

Papyrus!

1. Palafin: a strange one, I know, but I think Papyrus would love this Pokémon for its hero-like appearance and strength. It appears normal and boring at first but transforms into a superhero to protect people! It is a play on the phrase "zero to hero", which seems to be Papyrus's goal in Undertale. He wants to be popular and loved, like Undyne! He wants to be a part of the heroic Royal Guard! It looks like a normal Finizen at first, but transforms into its scret Hero Form to become incredibly powerful (so strong it can lift an entire cruise ship with just one fin!) This might not be a very deep reason for including Palafin here, but it definitely fits Papyrus's goals and vibe.

2. Marowak: A bony Pokémon with an air of toughness and loneliness, Marowak wields a bone as a weapon and looks super cool, although it's not as spooky as Sans's Dusknoir. It has a tough spirit that is not easily broken. No-one is sure where it gets its bone weapons, much like the mysterious nature of Papyrus's own bone attacks (seriously, does he make them? Do they come from pre-existing bones underground? Are they pure magic? IDK).

3. Revavroom: This Pokémon is a reference to Papyrus's love of cars and complex puzzles. Lots of people don't understand what this Pokémon is supposed to be upon first (or fourth...) look, but it's an engine. According to its wiki article, it's face is supposed to resemble a skull (although I don't see it...kinda like Papyrus's face puzzle being confusing to some people, now that I thunk about it...). Overall, it's a very odd and weird Pokémon, perfect for our mysterious skeleton friend.

4. Gyarados☆: The ☆ next to this Pokémon's name means it's a shiny! Shiny Gyarados not only matches Papyrus's colour palette (being red), but it's a tough, cool-looking Pokémon that evolves from the underestimated underdog of the Pokémon world, Magikarp. This represents the hardships one needs to overcome in life to grow and become stronger. We know Ppayrus loves to train and is incredibly patient. He must go through lots of hardship with Undyne (a fish-like monster) to become stronger! Gyarados's beta form has the name Skulkraken, combining the words "skull" and "kraken." This could be a nod to Papyrus's pirate flag in his bedroom. This Pokémon can also fly, a surprising trait for something without any visible means of doing so, like wings. Papyrus himself flies and levitates in the game, even though he doesn't look like he should be able to. Gyarados is a Pokémon with a violent and savage temperment, like Marowak, that doesn't seem to fit Papyrus until you start to see through his surface-level "happy-go-lucky" attitude.

5. Machamp: Papyrus loves talking about how big his muscles are, and he loves working out and training with Undyne. This tough Pokémon even has a similar belt and...uh...armour design to Papyrus. Its name could be a reference to the word "macho." Despite being incredibly strong, it is bad at doing any delicate, careful work. I can imagine all sorts of shenanigans it would get into with a trainer who is as particular as Papyrus!

6. Mimikyu: This seems like an odd choice, but hear me put. Mimikyu is a Pokémon that disguises itself as another, more popular Pokémon in the hopes it will get love, attention, and affection. It even makes its own costume. Sound familiar? Not to mention, it looks cute and innocent, but there is definitely something mysterious, weird, and undoubtedly powerful under that appearance. It might not perfectly represent Papyrus, but I think Papyrus has a kind soul that would give Mimikyu the love and affection it deserves. After all, Papyrus knows what it's like to be lonely. I can imagine them hand-making all sorts of costumes together.

Overall, I wanted Papyrus to have a team that looked cute, quirky, and/or cool on the outside, but that has a theme of a hidden side or a secret, usually powerful or even frightening in nature. That is also why I chose his specific Legendary and Mythical Pokémon:

Koraidon: I desperately wanted this to be Palkia, I really did, but Koraidon fits so much better. While Palkia would be the "sibling" to Sans's Dialga, this Koraidon better fits the way Sans and Papyrus are so dissimilar. However, Koraidon does come from a game having to do with time travel, still lending to that timey-wimey theme. Papyrus loves cars, and Koraidon matches his cool vibe and his colour scheme. It is a Pokémon from the past, fitting Papyrus's "kid-like" personalty in contrast with the futuristic, stoic Dialga that Sans has. While Palkia fits Papyrus's abilities to mess with reality and do whatever he wants, this Pokémon seems more like something he'd actually have on his team. I also made it go with Mettaton's Miraidon (I'll explain why when we get to him).

Keldeo: The mythical Keldeo is here to match Undyne's Cobalion; is a protégé of Cobalion, and is the newest unofficial member of the "Swords of Justice". It shares colour similarities to Papyrus's outfit. It is also a smaller, weaker-looking Pokémon that can change forms to be much more powerful. It fights only for good causes, using the horn on its head like a sword. Once again, we have the "younger" look, something that appears goofy or weak on the surface but can pack a punch.

Meowth remembered the experiment that started this whole thing. They’d been asked by Team Rocket labs to participate in a special breeding experiment to determine if humans and Pokémon could interbreed. Since their team wasn’t exactly bringing in the powerful Pokémon, the higher-ups figured they could at least be useful as test subjects.

The fact that Meowth and James had already started a Pokébestial relationship was merely a bonus.

He let his mind drift back to their first breeding attempt. His Jimmy had been a virgin before the relationship, but he learned quick (at least when it came to sex). Within a few tries, Meowth had him squealing so loud, they probably woke the whole forest. Jessie invested in a comfortable set of earplugs after the first few times.

Meowth could hear the falsetto moan James had let out when he slid into him. He could almost get drunk on the memory of that potent perfume of roses, Victreebel saliva, and human pheromones that made up James’s signature scent. As James rolled his hips, the sides of his entrance caressed Meowth’s dick in a warm, wet embrace.

After they’d calmed down a bit, James had looked down at his stomach. “I made such a mess,” he said in mock remorse.

Meowth had rolled over to watch James clenchingly make his way to the bathroom. He didn’t know why, but he fixated on the pearls of jism rolling down James’s thigh. Probably because they, too, were round. Meowth was always a sucker for round things.

Over the next few weeks, it took them a few more tries, but eventually Meowth knocked James up. And here they were now.

Meowth was brought out of his reverie by a soft yawn. James shifted in his sleep, then opened his eyes and gave Meowth a smoldering half-smile. The half-mast eyelids and pheromone cocktail fanned the two green flames.

His Jimmy was rustled.

The heat was rising within James. The urge was upon him again.

James knew he wasn’t really in heat, of course. He was still pregnant, and humans didn’t go into heat, anyway. But as of late, he’d been feeling as though he might start caterwauling if Meowth didn’t stick him right then and there.

Ever since James had entered the latter weeks of his pregnancy, his hormones had been driving him mad. He and Meowth hadn’t copulated since it started and James had discovered quickly that certain desires did not wane, even after they’d served their purpose. There, he waited and watched as Meowth caught up to him. Meowth marched right into the ring of fire, the words “I am the unburnt,” on his lips. He rode James the Moltres, but not through the sky. James woke from that one feeling very flaming indeed.

Yet another flight of fancy put him in a hall of mirrors in front of a Jack-in-the-Box. Though the reflections were distorted, James could make out that he was sporting pigtails and a clown nose. In place of a crank, the Jack-in-the-Box bore a perfect replica of Meowth’s penis. James instinctively knew to massage the penis on the box. Out popped Meowth, dressed in a harlequin print jester costume.

At that point in the dream, James’s nipples began to throb; he looked down and saw that they had transformed into bright red orbs, a funhouse mirror image of his clown nose. Back in the present, James felt a flush rise on his face. He was hit by a sudden rush of shame at his loss of mental control, their failure to capture Pikachu, even his dreadful lack of sexual knowledge before the experiment. Meowth practically had to explain sex to him, since his parents hadn’t seen fit to. So many shames; it rhymed with James.

Meowth must have read it on his face. “No, Jimmy,” he said, placing a comforting set of paws on James’s shoulders. “It’s okay. You got needs, too.” Meowth’s voice was gentle, but James could hear undertones of reciprocal rut. The timing was perfect.

“I need you, Meowth. Right now.”

James didn’t need to ask twice. Meowth helped him out of his pajamas—no easy feat, considering how swollen James was at the moment, even with the lubricious luster his lust did muster. Verily, the sweat might have hindered Meowth’s removal of James’s clothing. Waiting only made James more randy. In his delirium, he found himself half whispering, half chanting, “Come, kitty. “Yes,” James breathed. Baked tuna: James had cooked it for their dinner that evening.

Meowth worked his way down, giving ample attention to James’s nipples. No honking resulted; the only sounds were Meowth’s sucking and James’s low moaning as Meowth’s tongue nodules dandled James's dugs.

“Like the taste?” James drawled.

Meowth grinned. “Your milk’s comin’ in early.”

“Bless him,” James thought, tears misting his eyes. “He’s going to save me the cleanup.”
