✦ I See Us, Chapter Three ✦

The one where they learn some things.

The ripple that went through the group was practically physical, and at least one person choked on their drink.

“Apologies, but did you say mother?” A new voice asks. A handsome man, brown hair and striking eyes that might be blue or green.

“Yes, is that so unbelievable? I know we don’t look extremely alike but I thought there was some resemblance,” she jokes.

“No, you look alike, but you look very young.” This time it’s from the man next to her.

‘Max Verstappen’

“I guess I do look rather young to have a 22 year old son. I am Logan’s adoptive mother.” A tension that Lilli hadn’t noticed disappeared, and she couldn’t help but laugh. “Oh dear, did you really all think I gave birth to him and looked this young? No, I will be turning 37 this year.”

“Still, you look extremely young, barely over 30.” A new voice, from who seemed to be the oldest at the table. Alsonso, she thinks.

“Thank you,” she supplies, a smile sent his way for the compliment.

“Ok, now that we’ve thoroughly interrogated Lilli, can we get food?” Alex buts in, picking up a menu and tapping it on the table. A few people laugh, also picking up a menu. Lilli smiles and rolls her eyes, picking her up as well.

“Order whatever you want sweetheart, I’ll pay.” Logan looks up at her, and she swears she could see stars in his eyes.

“Are you sure momma? I’ve got my card,” Logan whispers, patting his pocket. Lilli just gives him a small shake, patting him on the cheek.

“It’s my treat, baby, for your first race of the season.” Logan nods, going back to his menu and whispering something to Oscar.

Lilli raises a hand at a server that had been hovering near the group, and he quickly comes closer.

“A glass of the 2021 Amelia Chardonnay and water with ice, please.” Lilli pauses, turning to Logan.

“Lo, what do you want to drink baby?”

“Uh, Coke, and a glass of water.”

Lilli turns back to the waiter, “Another water, the same, and a Coke.”

He nods and quickly walks off, getting their drinks.

“You getting a drink momma, I thought you were driving us?” Logan teases. Lilli rolls her eyes, knowing that she would be fine to drive once the night was over.

“Mrs. Lillianna,” Lilli looks up at the voice, and, who she now can 100% say is Fernando Alonso, is looking at her.

“Please, Lilli is fine.” Fernando smiles, nodding his head.

“Lilli, how are you liking the Formula One life so far?”

“It’s quite exciting, if not intense. Definitely more to it than F2.” Her response gets a few nods.

“F2 has much less chaos around it, I think,” Max points out, and she can’t help but nod in agreement.

“I definitely agree. There's much more media coverage. I was not quite prepared for it, but Elias has helped a lot, as well as the press officers.”

“Has the media already given you shit? Unbelievable,” Max scoffs, and Lilli can only nod along. His words might have been a little direct, but very true.

“I think they tried for a minute before realizing they had nothing to stand on.” She pauses, accepting the two glasses from the returned waiter. She taps Logan on the leg before moving his water in front of him. “Media likes to try and use anything you say against you, but I would say I was more than prepared to deal with the majority of it.”

“That’s cause you’re used to dealing with stuck up snobs at PopPop’s big charity parties,” Logan butts in, eyes still on the menu. The confused looks that she can see from Max and Alonso are ignored by the man, but Lilli answers their unasked questions.

“My grandfather owned a large cybersecurity and hired guard personnel firm in the States, and I’ve been attending charity events as his guest for as long as I can remember.”

“Means she’s also loaded,” Oscar suddenly pipes up, much to the woman’s embarrassment.

“I am not, just decently well off,” she tries to deflect, but the looks she’s getting from a few of the men are telling her that they don’t believe her.

“In the States you say, but you are here for F1? Your job allows you to do such things?” Max questions, his attention fully on Lilli.

“I do data analysis, which I can do remotely. It’s the best job I can ask for, considering racing takes up the majority of the year. But, I wouldn’t change it for the world,” Lilli pauses, her hand moving to Logans and squeezing it once. “Logan’s my world, and F1 is his dream, so I am completely ready to support him in any way.”

“You are a good mother, supporting him this much,” Max smiles, and the words are more sincere than Lilli had expected. She responds with a smile of her own, before grabbing her menu and selecting her order.

Logan kept his promise and didn’t drink nearly as much as Oscar and Alex. Oscar was the worst off, barely able to stand without any help, and Alex’s coordination was also rather poor. Lilli could still feel the buzz from her drink, and she knew it was enough to make driving not an option. In fact, Logan was probably the most sober out of them.

“I can call a ride in a little bit baby, you go ahead and get to the hotel,” Lilli insists, ushering the boys outside. The valet from earlier had already brought their vehicle up, and she was pushing the keys into Logan’s hand.

“I don’t wanna leave you here by yourself momma.” Logan is firm with his words, but Lilli just smiles.

“I won’t be here alone baby, there's still quite a few of the drivers here.” And she was right. Lewis, Carlos, Charles, Alonso, Max, and Pierre were still at the table, meaning she would not be alone.

“...Fine,” Logan finally relents. He was just protective of his mother, and Lilli could understand that. It was rather adorable to her actually.

“Be safe, and message me when everyone is back in their rooms,” she calls as Logan gets Oscar in the car, Alex tumbling in after. Logan nods, giving her a quick peck in the cheek before driving off. She watches them leave until she can barely see the red taillights.

“They’ll be fine, it will be an easy drive compared to a race.” Lilli turns at the voice behind her, seeing Lewis Hamilton standing a few feet behind her. He offers a hand, and she accepts it, looping their arms together before returning to the restaurant.

“I have no doubt in that, but it’s ingrained in me to worry, no? Mother’s duty.” Lilli smiles at the man, and he returns it. They enter the doors, walking back to the table. The remaining few had moved to be closer to each other, with Charles moving closer to Max and Pierre moving next to Charles.

“Not done yet Mrs. Lillianna? Come for another round?” Alonso calls out as they approach. Lilli just laughs, retaking her seat next to Max. She gives Lewis another stunning smile as thanks, and he returns it before retaking his seat.

“No, just waiting for the buzz to wear off. I miscalculated the strength of the wine, and the boys needed to leave.” Lilli looks for her water cup, finding it refilled, but the lipstick stain was suspiciously gone.

“I ordered you another glass, as I figured you would want to sober up as quickly as possible,” Max says quietly. “Apologies if that was wrong.”

“No no, it was not. Thank you very much, I appreciate it.” Lilli notes the slight flush on his face, likely from the multitude of drinks he had consumed. Four gin and tonics, if she had been counting correctly.

“Mrs. Lillianna-,” Charles begins, but Lillie politely interrupts him.

“Please, just Lillianna or Lilli. It makes me feel much older than I am, and I am not married.”

That gets many surprised looks before Fernando speaks up.

“But your last name? Pardon me, but wouldn’t Logan’s last name be the same as yours then?”

“Ah, yes…” Lilli pauses, taking a breath. She had not wanted to get into this so quickly, but it could not be helped. “Logan is my adoptive son, yes, but he is related to me biologically. His biological parents are my former cousins. They are no longer part of our family.” Lilli sighs, taking a sip of her water, wishing it was instead a gin and tonic.

“Ah, apologies…” Fernando murmurs, and the atmosphere becomes tense. Lilli waves it away, speaking once again.

“No worries, it’s not unknown knowledge, we just don't bring it up very often.” She smiles at the older man, to show she wasn’t upset by the question.

“You’ve done a stellar job raising him, he’s an amazing kid,” Lewis speaks up, and Lilli internally sighs in relief. They weren’t put off by the information.

“Thank you, I did my best with him. It helps that he’s the sweetest.” Lilli smiles, her eyes filled with adoration that the men around her could see.

“He is, but I’m sure a lot of that had to do with how you raised him.” Charles speaks up, raising his glass to her. “I have two brothers, and my mother put everything she had into us.”

“Your mother has done a wonderful job as well. I believe I've had the pleasure of meeting your younger brother. Arthur, correct?”

“Correct, madame . I am surprised he has not mentioned you.” Lilli chuckles, leaning forward and resting her elbows on the table.

“It was in passing, I doubt he would have remembered me.”

“I do not believe that, you do not seem like someone easily forgotten,” Pierre finally pipes up, speaking to her for the first time since they had met.

“I will take that as a compliment,” she smiles, quietly enjoying the visible mild panic in the Frenchman's eyes as he realizes his words could be seen as offensive. He stammers for a second before Lilli lets out a full laugh, eyes crinkling. “ Ce n’est pas grave ,” (It's not serious) Lilli assures him, thoroughly enjoying how reactive the group seems to be to her.

“ Vous parlez français? ” (You speak French?) Charles asks quickly, his eyes bright.

“ Oui, bien que je sois un peu faible, je ne l'utilise pas souvent .” (Yes, but I am weak, I do not use it often.) Charles laughs, waving his hand.

“ Il n'y a pas de souci, tu le parles bien. ” (It is not a problem, you speak it well.)

“Do you speak any other language?” Lilli looks at the man next to her, his eyes bright with interest. She nods her head, eyes moving to the two Spaniards in front of her.

“ Hablo español con más fluidez, ya que es más común en los Estados Unidos. And German, as I’ve lived in Switzerland for the past eight-ish years.” (I speak Spanish more fluently as it is more common in the US.)

“ Schweiz? Nicht Amerika? ” (Switzerland? Not America?) Max questions, eyebrows raised.

“ Wir zogen um, als Logan tiefer in den Kartsport einstieg. ” (We moved when Logan got further into karting.) Lilli replies, the words rolling off her tongue, no trace of a stutter.

“Have you thought about moving to Monaco at all?” Max switches back to English to ask, mindful of the others. She shrugs a bit.

“I’ve heard it’s the epicenter for Formula drivers, but I like the privacy Switzerland gives me. We have a house in Florida, and a small flat in London, so I don’t think so.”

“Not even renting an apartment?” Charles questions, leaning forward.

“Maybe, if Logan wants. But I am happy with what we have now.”

“You should take some time to tour Monaco, see if you find anything you like. I can take you, before or after the Monaco Grand Prix?” Charles offers. Lilli gives him a small smile, nodding ever so slightly.

“We will see gentlemen.” Lilli takes a sip of her water, noticing the time on her phone. “Speaking of seeing, I must apologize. It was a delight to meet all of you, but we will have to see each other another time, as it’s getting quite late.” She stands, carefully gathering her things. Max stands as well, his own phone in hand.

“Will you be ok to drive?” His question is filled with sincerity, and she can see Lewis out of the corner of her eye, also ready to stand.

“Oh, no, I am calling a car. I sent Logan back with mine,” she says nonchalantly, opening her phone to call a ride.

“ Non, s’il vous plaît , one of us will drive you madame ! It is far too late,” Charles protests immediately, half standing before Max waves him away.

“I will take you, I must be leaving soon anyway.” Lilli immediately protests, politely refusing.

“No, I couldn’t bother you with this-,”

“You can’t because it is no bother. I will take you to your hotel, no worries,” Max insists, softly reaching for her arm and turning them towards the door. “I promise, it is no hassle.”

Lilli sighs, looking in his eyes before finally giving in.

“Alright, thank you very much Max,” she responds, a small smile on her face. Max returns it, Raising a hand in a static wave to the other drivers, a farewell. “Thank you for the conversation gentlemen, I hope to see you all again, and wish you all well!”

“ Merci madame, bonne nuit! ” (Thank you ma’am, good night!) Charles calls back, Lewis and the rest offering similar sentiments. With that, Max offers his arm in the same way he saw Lewis do earlier, and Lilli loops their arm as she had done earlier. The two exit the restaurant, the parking valet waiting with Max’s car. He hands the keys to Max, and opens the door for Lilli. She takes her seat, watching as Max passes the man a note before entering the car himself.

I made a few new wax seal stamps out of clay (like the ones I did for my worldbuilding stuff forever ago), this time just of random symbols that I thought might look good done in the style of painting over the raised part of the wax or etc. :0c Some of them aren't carved deep enough to really show up that well, but overall they worked okay for being clay lol

I was imagining like a swirly night sky sort of looking thing so it would be a surreal contrast of a night #sky with a window in the middle that shows a daytime sky - but the silver and purple wax kind of mixed too much together #with the black and it just looks very plain black and not all that starry or anything hjbhj.. Of course the eye is probably my favorite #since all I ever do is draw eyes and still like eye imagery for some reason. The four leaf clover is very lumpy and skrunkty but also it wa #the smallest in size out of all of them so was easier to do multiple stamps of just to try it out.#The heart with eyes wax is actually more swirly in person. I wanted it to be a mix of light pink and red and white. and the wax #did kind of all blend together but in person you can definitely see MORE of the intentional swirlyness. in this it just looks plain pink.#I was going to do one eye in the heart but it looked weird. but now two seems too plain. i could have done 3?? in a pattern.. hmm #alas. I wish I could make actual metal ones. With the clay i have to paint them in a thin layer of olive oil before stamping because #otherwise the wax just kind of gets stuck in the grooves of the clay and then you can't pull it up. Very wacky ''unprofessional'' looking #set up where I'm hot gluing circles of sculpey clay to short stumps of a wooden dowel that I sawed apart with a serrated bread knife #and then using an old paintbrush to put olive oil on them whilst holding a spoon over a yankee candle flame hjbjh #ANYWAY.. I think if I were middle class/rich/etc. this would be one of the main things in my crafting room is like.. SO many colors #of wax. and all different custom made stamps designed by me. which could be much more elaborate in actual metal.. muahaha.... >:)c #RHGghhh... I actually don't want to talk much about it since (this is probably just my Obsessed With My Own World Artist Delusions) I #think I have a really cool idea for a game that could genuinely be successful if i ever get to make it and I don't want to give #everything away and spoil the whole plot/concept in hopes that one day I can actually do it - BUT - a game that I'd like to make after the #visual novel I'm making now has partially to do with the main character working as a sort of writer/scribe/artist assistant in an elven #city (set in my world/with my worldbuilding species and versions of elves and etc) and I was thinking of maybe incorporating #somehow being able to collect little writing type items like these like.. you can get different wax seal patterns or pens or etc. when I do #stuff like this in Real Life it always makes me think of that like.. ouh... this is good research.. what it shall be like to be a littol #elf collecting wax seals and such.. indeed... GRR i need to be finished with my current game NOWWW... i MUST work on other #thingss... aughh... Normally, I wouldn't really say anything about the drama and stuff, because that's not what I'm here for and honestly I feel like a lot of it is just none of my business. But, it just feels so close to home for me that I can't help but say something. Because here's the thing people aren't going to talk about and probably don't even realize, but I think so much of this drama actually has to do with Dream being autistic.

Just notice the themes of what Tubbo said about Dream being weird, inappropriate, not considering the social boundaries, not communicating, coming across wrong… etc these are all things that can be attributed to Dream literally not knowing better because of neurodivergence. That’s not an excuse but an explanation to know the difference between Dream texting Tommy’s mom out of being manipulative versus not understanding how that breaks a social boundary. That’s not to say Dream should get a free pass to do whatever but I think in the same way we take into consideration other people’s ages and their naivety and obliviousness and inexperience into consideration, Dream’s neurodivergence should be considered too. It is valid. It makes a difference between manipulative and malicious intent versus simply not seeing it the same way.

And really the sad thing is, that I think people will always dislike Dream. At the end of the day, I think that will never change, because even if he was the most perfect person people would still dislike him because of an underlying subconscious response to him not being like the rest. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that he is made the villain in real life and in the dsmp, because it is simply a psychological fact that people inherently dislike autistic people. It’s not because they are ableist it’s just we don’t act like they do so that makes us weird and therefore unlikeable. And it’s hard to understand us because our brains our literally different and as has been said throughout history what we don’t understand we hate, we fear, we see as evil, we attack. Why does Dream get canceled and attacked over and over again? Not because they are true and it proves a pattern that he’s shitty, but because society is so desperate to find a more tangible reason to hate him other than the fact that they just do. Because his behavior breaks social rules he didn’t realize existed. Because he’s easy pickings. Because in my opinion it all comes down to autism and honestly until that piece is actually taken into consideration nothing will probably resolve.

#agh it’s so frustrating to watch something play out when you know exactly why because it’s played out in your own life #when you see people say things and yet not understand what eachother are saying #agdjnsgjfnwhd…it just… oh as an autistic person who has masked so well I have in many ways become the bridge between neurodivergent and #neurotypical it is infuriating to see this all unfolding for years and not being about to do anything to highlight what’s happening #dream #dreamblr #dreamwastaken #also like with politics - like you don’t get it but in the US south you can’t just hate everyone who votes a certain way or whatever because #you’d be hating your whole family your friends your boss your coworkers like it’s easy in Britain to have you high horse but that’s just not #how it is here… I can’t afford to just hate everyone it’s just not that simple #and when it comes to his sexuality. is it so unfair of him to just not know. like not want to say he’s straight or gay because he doesn’t #know… should we be allowed to figure things out…#….. I should go to bed I just I wanted to say something because tubbo making comments like - it’s not that black and white and stuff to an #autistic person had be slamming my head because yea it seems that way to us by default #probably delete this tomorrow… I don’t know… good night peeps

oooooo white people in my replies really saying ‘I can excuse racism but I draw the line at homophobia’

Not surprised since this is the site that only talks about racism and thinks it’s a big deal when they see it demonstrated in the cartoons and comics they like *coughs* dungeonmeshi *coughs* (for example at least. I haven’t seen THIS many white ppl talk as in depth about racism on here as much as these fandom nerds, man. I stg. Like “Ohhhh, so you all DO acknowledge that racism is real? Just not in real life even if you could feel it slapping you in the face at high speed. Gotcha.” It’s crazy.

Tumblr is like, 90% white and is extremely centered around them. That’s why you barely see stuff that’s important to black and brown people ever trending here or being talked about. It has to be something incredibly huge to the point where even white people can’t ignore it like they usually do, to talk about it here.

They only talked about George Floyd here because the topic of his death became world news. Even people in other countries were talking about it. Before him, it was probably Ferguson and Trayvon Martin… most of them are still trying their best to ignore the genocides because it’s a “touchy subject.” What do you expect from white people who live in their own bubbles of comfort and refuse to pop it with a needle??? They find comfort in their privilege and faux ignorance (they love playing stupid to avoid conversations about important things outside of fandoms like, are these mfs born with half a brain dedicated to fandom or what.) That’s literally all these mfs make a big deal out of, especially on this annoying ass platform. The ao3 mfs will go to war for the site that allows racist ff and cp like it’s no big deal. I wonder how many people here even donated to the site while actively scrolling past dono posts from folks who really do need help. They act like they’re doing a civil service by defending this site that makes over the amount of it’s intended dono goal in minutes.

Then you already know as soon as you even bring up racism in the stuff they like, they start ganging up and harassing black bloggers especially, calling them TERFs and the whole nine. Anything to make that person look bad for being concerned about the racism that they have such an intense aversion to. God, it’s absolutely exhausting knowing that these people would have no problem choosing a cartoon character over your entire existence if they COULD. Isn’t that fucking sad, man?
