Leader of my old rwby oc team is coming back as a classic Clover self insert (i.e. Literally just me plopped into the universe) and (aside from my pokémon self insert) I have never been more tempted to just give them my name. But alas, color rule. Also there’s already a guy named Clover in there

as much as i love 'war' as a song, i do kinda wish the fight between team rwby and the ace-ops was presented more as a tragedy(?) rather than as a moment of ass kicking. ya know, like qrow vs clover was; it doesn't have to be this way, and as an audience you shouldn't want it to be this way, they should be allies, friends, etc, and maybe there was a way to prevent it from ending this way, but it was not the road taken.

obviously it would require for there to be more interactions between team rwby and the ace-ops beforehand in positive light; not only in terms of training—with team rwby taking the advice they get from these more experienced huntsmen and huntresses to heart—, but also on more personal level, but overall, as the fight is, it just feels tonally... off. it's mostly masked by the banger of a song—and the soundtrack in general—that plays in the background, but it's just... with salem in the horizon, i don't think a fight between allies should make me feel hyped in the moment.

i don't know if this is the best way to phrase this to really get across what i'm trying to say, but again, comparing team rwby vs the ace-ops with qrow vs clover, because of the difference in tone, the latter feels like it has more depth to it; that these characters are taken more seriously, while with team rwby it's like... as long as they look cool, it's fine, ya know?

but i want more than that. i want the same depth, the same seriousness for team rwby as other characters get in similar situations. but at times, it feels like the writing is either too unwilling, too afraid, or just too uncaring to do so.

RWBY HEADCANONS!!!

Some RWBY headcanons I have all shared in one place cause the brainrot is real. Most are queer/shipping headcanons, but not all (Spoilers for Volume 9, also not all characters are included, just the ones I do have a headcanon about)

Ruby is a homoromantic asexual. She's always had romantic feelings for Penny since she loves goofballs, and has started falling for Weiss after spending more time with her. In between volume 5 and 6 is when she truly fell for her. In her ideal world, she'd be in a poly relationship with them both. For a non-queer/ship headcanon, she has ADHD

Next is Weiss, who I headcanon as pansexual. Her crushes on Neptune and adult Jaune were pretty shallow and nothing serious (not that she doesn't like them at all, just doesn't see a future with them). She also had a crush on Pyrrha, but was respectful and backed off when she started suspecting Jaune might've had feelings for her too, which was timed perfectly since that's when Neptune came in the picture. She didn't like Ruby at first, either as a person or romantically, but both of those feelings grew over the years and she now does like Ruby but doesn't want to admit it to anyone, even herself

I guess it's a trend of mine to headcanon my favourite characters as queer transfems, and that's the case with Penny. I can totally see Pietro building a "wrong body" for her at first, and since she didn't have a concept of bigotry at the time, she wasn't afraid to ask him to change her body, which he happily agreed to and apologized for not getting it right straight away, although she always forgives him. For sexuality, I see her as demisexual. She didn't have feelins for Ruby until they spent time together and got to know each other better. She wanted to ask Ruby out after the Vytal tournament and enrolling at Beacon, then again after escaping Atlus together, but I don't think I need to mention why neither of those worked. She also has no ill-will toward Pyrrha. If Pyrrha were still alive, Penny would hug her close and tell her it was okay

From my favourite character to my favourite male character, Qrow. First of all, I know the behind the scenes reason his voice changed, but I like the headcanon that it changed in the show cause he cut back on drinking. Maybe not altogether, but significantly less than he used to. Along with Ruby I also see him as a homoromantic asexual. His whole womanizing act is just that, an act to seem cool. In actuality, Clover was the only person in years he ever had feelings for.

Neo is short and simple, like her character (I love her). I see her as a aroace transfem. At first she used her semblance to look how she wanted, but now she naturally looks that way. Also not really a headcanon but pLEASE DON'T LET HER SPEAK, I HATE THAT FAN THEORY SO MUCH, KEEP HER MUTE

Winter I also see as aroace. Relationships confuse her more than anything, but the more her and Weiss get close, the more she teases Weiss guys to annoy her (she doesn't know Weiss is pan and assumes she's straight, but would be supportive if Weiss came out)

I get that Ruby is supposed to be the protagonist and therefore drive the plot by making her own decisions and mistakes, but GOD is it annoying to have Qrow, a supposed adult with years of experience, someone who should stand out among the mcs and set an example, to not have a say in those decisions and be as deadbeat npc as the others, just because he's still sad over being betrayed by Ozpin and he sees Summer in Ruby or whyever the hell he decides to place all bets in Ruby's judgement. Like who are you again? Sir, wake up, this isn't a dry run, the state of the world is at stake. Her repercussions are the failure of your oversight.

If Qrow had died in Vol 4 or 5, a lot of the problems in Atlas (*cough* Clover's death *cough*) would've been solved so much sooner or never existed at all. Unfortunately, like with many other characters in this show, CRWBY doesn't fucking know what they want from Qrow.

His consistency has been one of the worse in the cast, with his alcoholism initially being written as a joke to now being something so crippling to him that he cannot properly function even though the story wants us to believe this dude was skilled enough for Ozpin to have as a scout and entrust the protection of Amber to him.

His relationships with his team and supposed allies are never made clear; yeah, we know that he and Raven see each other as enemies, but what about the other aspects of that fallout? Was he hurt by her leaving? Did she regret it? Nope, Raven didn't even hesitate to talk shit about him to his niece and attempted to kill him in Mistral. What about Summer? Fans speculated that he was her partner and possibly in love with her because of how much he deifies her to her daughters, but CRWBY never had the balls to actually confirm their relationship beyond teammates and how her death affected him. And holy shit, him and Tai barely interact even though they are the only ones left from STRQ which is just teeming with character-building opportunities here.

Hell, even his relationship with his nieces has been delegated to "them lecturing and even attempting to fight him", even though he should be the one fucking protecting, mentoring, and guiding them through a FUCKING CRISIS. Ruby and Yang are nowhere near the level of experience required to handle basic Huntsman protocols, as seen in how quickly Yang throws her commanding officer under the bus to someone infamously stealing government supplies that were being used to help Atlas, and with Ruby seeing anyone opposing her naivete that led to the destruction of said kingdom as the enemy who should be put down like dogs.

Qrow bloats the narrative so much that I cannot wait until Tyrian puts another load of venom into him and makes sure he stays down. If you really, REALLY wanna see a mentor character with flaws and opposing ideologies to their apprentice who also happens to be family, leading to conflicting narrative points that you can understand both of their perspectives, look at One Piece's Garp and his turbulent relationship with his grandsons.

Was the Jabberwalker a really big threat?

When I did my comparison analysis between Tyrian and Neo, I forgot to mention a feat of Neo's that I personally consider somewhat overrated. I mean that Neo was able to defeat the Jabberwalker when she fell in the Ever After (as it was revealed in the last chapter that it ascended after their encounter) and then clone it.

Since we are talking about one of the original creations of the Grimm brothers and he embodies destruction above all, it is very easy to overestimate the Jabberwalker, and therefore Neo for having defeated him, but the truth is that the reality is quite different, since based on his brief participation in the program everything seems to indicate that he would be at most at the level of a veteran Grimm, being able to think and even speak but beyond that; he could not put up a fight against Yang, Weiss and Blake when they met, instead he immediately fled when he saw himself outnumbered.

Which isn't surprising when you remember that the inhabitants of Ever After are usually mild-mannered or just not used to fighting, at most the Red King's guards and warriors might know something about self-defense but taking into account, again, the nature of the world and what was seen in his confrontation against WBY, this doesn't exceed or even match the skills of a Remnant hunter, so even if he usually hunts down and destroys the Afterians, there's no way they would have posed a considerable enough challenge to increase his skills. Just remember that Alyx, a little girl armed with a simple dagger, was able to scare him off when they met for the first and only time.

Even if we take into account the fights with the clones made by Neo, it is more of the same since neither Jaune, Weiss, Blake or Yang showed any major complications in defeating them.

Finally and to end this topic once and for all, I just want to clarify one thing in case any misunderstanding arises: I like Neo as a character, I love all his fight scenes and I can understand why she is so popular in the fandom, and if I say what I am saying is why there are those who overvalue her for the latter and I only intend to clarify this matter objectively. My reaction would be the same if someone said, for example, that Tyrian was nerfed in his matchup against Qrow, Clover and Robyn instead of it being a matter of tactical superiority, or that Pyrrha of Volume 2 could beat the current Team RWBY... In any case, as I said before, if someone wants to give their opinion or contribute something, they are free to do so, as long as they are respectful.

You know darling, I had a super rough week at work last week and seeing this in my inbox made me so happy that I didn't actually want to post it. I just wanted to see it in my inbox every time I popped into it, so it could make me smile even when I wasn't feeling good.

I'll level with you all: the last few years have been harder for me than the pandemic ever was. Many of my hobbies - writing included - fell by the wayside in the last 3-4 years since I've been here, and finding my voice as a writer again has been a struggle. Many of my friends have long-since left RPCs I was in, leaving me feeling a little lost and adrift in communities I felt deeply rooted in previously. It's been hard to come back and make new friends and re-make my community presence, and even harder not to hold the struggle to find my voice as a writer against myself.

When I say that messages like this are why I love the Tumblr RPC, despite all it's flaws? I mean it with my whole heart. There is nothing I treasure more about the Tumblr RPC than the collaborative writing aspect that has brought about some of the deepest, longest-running friendships I've had in my life.

I can't speak for everyone, but my biggest issues with Robyn is the fact that she doesn't really do what she's supposed to be doing from a writing perspective. She's supposed to be a hero to the people of Mantle and a sort of Robin Hood, but it didn't work because we never see it where it mattered most. In Volume 7.

She's supposed to be a person who Mantle can rely on, but we never see her actually interact with the people of Mantle outside of the election night. We never see her out in the streets talking and helping the people. After the massacre at the pep rally, we never see what she and her team does with the materials they start stealing from Ironwood. It's never used to help rebuild things. As far as we know, she and her team are completely hoarding it.

When it finally comes time to help, while she does take down Tyrian at first, she then jumps at the littlest provocation and helps contribute to the plane crash, completely undoing the good she helped contribute to in a way that almost felt like deliberate self sabotage.

There's also the big inconsistencies with her Semblance. It's supposed to be a lie detector, but when you compare Ironwood's speech to all that came after, it seems like it's either faulty and can be duped (which is an interesting concept the writers would never explore), or it might not even be lie detection and then we have to go and try to figure out what it actually is via headcanons (which feels more in line with what CRWBY does).

Then there's the whole microaggressions issue regarding Marrow, the nickname "Wags", and Robyn kinda talking over him during their conversation about Faunus oppression.

At the end of it all, her issues build her up to be a hypocritical character who doesn't help with anything, and instead causes more problems. Basically, Robyn Hill is a fantastic character in concept, but her implementation in the show makes her frustrating to watch, and that's what makes people dislike her.

An issue a lot of characters in RWBY have.

^^ this is 100% valid and I truly see these criticisms. I'm not gonna defend Robyn all that much because she's nowhere near my favorite character, but I will say we never see what she does with the supplies just as much as we never see what IRONWOOD does with the supplies. Heck, we don't even know what these supplies ARE that can supposedly be used to build Amity as well as fix the wall.

Robyn had every right to want those supplies back because she didn't know why Ironwood was taking them. When she finds out about Amity (via Blake and Yang) she stops stealing the supplies and the next scene we see her in she recognizes Ironwood is doing something for the "greater good" and invites him to open-up to her (loveeee that scene in Episode 9).

In the scene where Ironwood and Robyn deliver the speech, I believe the camera zooms-in on Ironwood when he says Amity is ready to launch so everyone wouldn't see his hand light up red (he was lying as bait to get Watts).

Robyn couldn't do much LEGALLY in Mantle until she was elected, and losing the election gave her the push to become "full-on vigilante". She had every right to steal supplies (to help Mantle) in my eyes just as Ironwood had a right to take them (to lift Amity to help the whole world). Plus, you can't fix a hole in a large wall being surrounded by Atlas cameras in one day.

Again, I don't LOVE Robyn, but I did LIKE her and understand her until the whole Tyrian-plane ride thing. Oh and I absolutely hated the scene in V8 when she told Qrow he was a better Huntsman than Clover because he was the one who "walked away". Completely untrue.

Either way, she deserved better. But I honestly wouldn't mind if we never see her again.

Hello! I've been wondering for a while but, considering you also thought of James = GoL, has the Salem = Qrow thought crossed your mind? With Clover as Ozma. There's been several times they have been paralleled (example: fight vs Clover = vs Ozma, plus they have the same colors) & I'm quite sure that Qrow will be the one to help the kids out and also bring back Clover. Mister "Gone. Live everybody else." has been forgotten by Cinder & everyone else and that's going to be important in the end

ok so. gotta be honest i don’t really. have much interesting to say about clover because he’s… not my cup of tea and i don’t find him particularly engaging in his own right, although the stuff the narrative does with him as the like embodiment of the atlesian military ideal is very fun and he’s a neatfoil to qrow. and now that i’ve said that yeah i can see where you’re getting the ozma repetition from, in that clover is the true believer even to his own detriment and faultlessly obedient until it kills him.

where it gets sticky imo is that ozlem is a broken fairytale and the symbolic repetitions thereof function narratively as attempts to get it right this time; that’s how we get the validation of salem’s grieving rage through ruby at the summit of beacon tower and jaune being dragged bodily out of the self-destructive spiral of his grief by his friends, and so forth. my reading of the atlas arc turns on penny being the fulcrum, the echo of ozma to ironwood’s echo of the god of light, and specifically an illustration of the divine mandate’s cruel injustice; penny is similarly torn between goodness and what she’s been told is right, between duty and desire, and very much like ozma she is ultimately crushed by the duty she can’t bring herself to walk away from—but her arc in v7-8 is all about questioning the assumptions she has been taught to make, vocalizing her internal conflicts, and being resolutely supported by her loved ones as she breaks away from ironwood.

(there are other layers to pick apart here in her death by cinder’s hand […pun intended i am so sorry] and jaune’s unwilling participation in ending her life in order to deny cinder what she wants from this murder, but in the interest of not going off on too long a tangent—)

anyway as the ozlem repetitions angle pertains to qrow and clover, i read them more as abstracted embodiments of the divine conflict: here is a mirror. good fortune on one side of the glass and misfortune on the other. (except they’re the same, because whether luck is good for you or bad for someone else depends solely on how you look at it.) good fortune bolsters misfortune as long as they’re on the same side but is also so disconnected from anything beyond the scope of the rules, the correct order of things that he chooses to attack misfortune, his friend and until minutes ago his ally, above recapturing the sadistic serial killer actively trying to kill them both—and his rigidity and refusal to listen to reason leaves misfortune with no recourse but to side with the serial killer. and when this predictably ends in tragedy it’s portrayed genuinely as a tragedy—not good fortune getting what’s coming to him, but a tragic, pointless ending to a life worth indescribably more than the inhumane rules he sacrificed it for. the anger qrow briefly expresses towards him is hollow, grieving, not really a condemnation of clover himself but a bitter repudiation of the world that made him.

it’s all very *waves hands* on theme, but in a direction that strikes me as pointing more at the gods (whose fundamental problem is the arbitrary and inequitable dichotomy they’ve forced themselves into and the inflexible order the “good” one enforced, to everyone’s detriment including his own) than at ozlem; consider how clover’s earnest if subtly condescending initial support of qrow and its corruption into calmly enforcing order by any means necessary suggests the way the god of light addresses his brother. there’s, again, some layers to pick apart in qrow and clover both also being staunchly loyal to causes to which they are literally (clover) or figuratively (qrow) subordinate, but that’s true of the repetition of divine conflict played out between ironwood and watts, too, and at the end of the day coercion and self-sacrifice are so crucial to what’s going on with ozma that i don’t think you can have a symbolic repetition of him without those elements; merely being subordinate to a higher power of any description is not enough, imo.

what does interest me quite a bit about this angle on qrow—and robyn, who in this layer of the narrative embodies dark’s second gift of knowledge—is that both of them survive the fall of atlas and do not leave solitas, which if it proves symbolically meaningful at all is an intriguing thing to do with a metaphor for what happens if ozma fulfills his mandate. creation (ironwood) and choice (cinder) destroyed atlas, destruction (qrow) and knowledge (robyn) are left behind to pick up the pieces… plus whatever pietro and maria will be up to, and cinder and salem in the event that they don’t leave right away. the natural point of convergence for all these characters is amity, which is a) still falling, b) something salem is lightly implied to have been interested in hijacking and using herself, and c) something salem would probably be able to haul back into broadcast range if she cared to—and of course notionally the point of amity was to bring the world together again. so THAT’s all hamster wheeling in the back of my brain.

Opinion bingo: Ruby & Qrow?

Ruby:

I have so many headcanons about them - less than I have about Yang, but still a fair few.

(looking adoringly at blorbo in hand) - Yang is my one true blorbo, but I do love Ruby too. She's adorable.

Puts them in a salad spinner - Ruby suffers too. Poor Ruby.

That's a solid design right there - Ruby's got some great outfits.

They are so silly - especially when chibi!Ruby happens in Volume 1. But at other times too. It's endearing.

(squeezing blorbo until they squeak) - again, Ruby suffers.

If anything happens to them I will cry - parts of Volume 9 were hard to watch.

Not for me but I can see the appeal - unlike Yang, I don't want to kiss or bite Ruby. I don't really ship her with anyone either. I don't mind White Rose, and she's cute with Penny, but it's just not something I'm interested in when it comes to Ruby. I can still see the appeal though.

Qrow:

A beast unleashed - Qrow is one of the best fighters in RWBY. That and he can transform into a crow, so I guess he's literally a beast sometimes?

Puts them in a salad spinner - Qrow suffers, no thanks to thinking of himself as bad luck for so long.

That's a solid design right there - Qrow's got some great outfits.

Bastard - Qrow's done some things to earn this title. He can be a bit abrasive and blunt, and there's that whole thing where he punched Oscar in the process of trying to hit Ozpin. Regardless, I still like Qrow.

Not for me but I can see the appeal - I don't want to kiss or bite Qrow, and I don't ship him with anyone either, although I can see how he'd work temporarily with Ironwood, and maybe longer with Clover if he'd lived. It's also easy to see how he might have had something with Tai before things fell apart with team STRQ. I can still see the appeal with Qrow though, and he's even what I thought my type was before I realised I was bi.

Fic Writer Questions (Round 2)

Two years ago, I was tagged in an ask game, and I stumbled upon it again so I decided now would be a good time to update it. This is for my own personal enjoyment, so if anyone wants to take it, it’s up for grabs. Q+A under cut because it’s a bit long.

How many works do you have on AO3?

72, with a 32 increase from last time, and so many more in my list of stuff to write. I am a slow bitch.

What's your total AO3 wordcount?

557,570, about a 200k increase from the last time.

How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?

BNHA, RWBY, Arcane/LOL, and Persona 5.

What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

Do you respond to comments, why or why not?

I don’t respond to every single one. I mostly respond to people who ask me questions about the fic or how I portrayed one character or another. I also respond to people who say something that wasn’t really on point with what I was trying to write (so small corrections here and there). I like talking to people about my writing but sometimes there’s just nothing to say.

What's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending?

I don’t do unhappy endings, same as last time, however I will say my angstiest fic has changed from Luck Be a Fickle Thing (RWBY) to i’ve carved out a place in this world for two (Persona 5). How do you contend with the fact that someone you care about, possibly even fell in love with, is going to die and you know the exact time limit? You make a bucket list, of course. (I copped out though so he doesn’t actually die, but it’s still full of the sense of dread and impending doom of death approaching).

Do you write crossovers? If so what is the craziest one you've ever written?

The Quirk Archives is a BNHA/TMA crossover series and I wrote a RWBY one-shot that takes place in the Avatar The Last Airbender universe. Quirk Archives is definitely bonkers because of all the shit going on and I mostly forget about it until I look at my rotation. My answer hasn’t changed from last time and somehow I’m only halfway done with quirk archives.

Have you ever received hate on a fic?

Thankfully, (still) no. But I have had people asking me to take fics in specific directions and have had to politely decline. Stop doing this. You want something in a fic, either you commission me real money or write it yourself.

Do you write smut? If so what kind?

Yes I have! You know what that’s called? Growth!

Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I know of.

Have you ever had a fic translated?

No.

Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Me and @palpalbuddypal​ are in the process of making one!

What’s your all time favorite ship?

All the ships I write for hold places in my heart and I will love all of them no matter how much time has passed. That being said, shuake persona 5 has had me in a vice grip since I’ve finished playing royal so that’s my favourite right now. Qrow/Clover from RWBY also has a place in my heart because I love Qrow’s character so much and I wish he has good things by the end of the show.

What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

I make the promise to get through all of my posted AUs. So I try not to post things I don’t intend to finish. If I really want to see it through, I will post it as kind of a reminder that the fic isn’t just for me but the people who follow it. So I don’t have anything here. That being said, Inko’s Home is a pain in the ass for me to write.

What are your writing strengths?

I’ve been told I’m very good at “describing sensations.”

What are your writing weaknesses?

I’m stubborn and get through things quickly just to get through my rotation and then get frustrated when I can’t do anything better. I try to meet my word counts but sometimes it’s hard, especially for a fic you don’t like anymore.

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

If you’ve read my Arcane stuff, I love having Viktor use Russian words as nicknames for Jayce. Moye serdtse (my heart) is one I commonly use, as well as stuff like Vitya and Viten’ka. I’m also partial to the headcanon of Persona-users being able to speak different languages depending on the origins of their Persona’s names, but I haven’t toyed with it yet.

What was the first fandom you ever wrote for?

.......Supernatural. I don’t want to talk about it. It was when I started writing and it was terrible.

What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?

It depends on my mood. Sometimes I re-read my one shots and I love them. Sometimes I’m editing older chapters of my long fics and I remember what I liked about them in the first place. Sometimes I come up with a new idea and get stuck on that for a while. Dear Fellow Traveller and Bound to You are up there (I will get around to updating them, I swear!) and are comforting when I do write them. Completed-wise, I’ll have to say both my Persona fics at the moment (Eat Your Heart Out and i’ve carved out a place in this world for two) because they’re my two newest and the ones on my brain. As I’ve said, I love going back to read my work. I write it for me, so just because I’m not currently thinking of something doesn’t mean I’ve hated it (except maybe Inko’s Home it drives me mad).

HE DOESN’T FOLLOW DESPITE THE WANT, rather to look for something, whatever it may be. she sees it with ease in the way that he keeps her closer, all while not crossing that thinly veiled line. had he, she couldn’t quite say what she may have done, at least not like she might have been able to before. still, there was no wonder to be had, the trust she had given to him shown it was never misplaced. here, in his grasp, she feels just as unbound as she has always made sure to be, even when any other would try to cage her.

the warmth of his touch leaves, seeking another place as ghosts across her jaw, and she lets it. it’s then that his lips find her own again, an ardor in them that’s undeniable, bleeding into every second which passes by. hands that were left to their own now take refuge against his back, returning his act in kind with that same fervor, all while taking this moment as hers — no, it would only be right to call it theirs, wouldn’t it.

so she decides, then and there, for it to be qrow to pull away whenever it may suit him, rather than by her own doing. this much she finds she can do with no complaint.

and when he does, the inviting warmth of his lips now fading from her own, her head takes little time to rest against his chest, making it her temporary home as the sound of his heart beats on. a hand moves to one of the silver, cross-shaped buttons on his vest, idly playing with it as she sees fit. ❝ I had thought you would’ve kept pushing me away. Well, it’s not as if I’d blame you if you had. I’ve been told I can be pretty trying, too. ❞ her tone lifts into an almost laugh, amusement laced with every word, ones many would have little to argue. perhaps it would have been best to leave certain things unspoken after that, if not for the moment, yet she asks all the same.

❝ Has something happened? ❞

       SHE WELCOMES HIM; against her lips, her body, into her arms--- into her heart, and he doesn't want to leave. it's a warm place, somewhere he's never known before, and yet, somehow he just knows it's right where he wants to be, as if he's wanted it all along. they shared in that longing together, melting into each other's embrace and it's there they linger. they're ghosts, unable to let go, searching for some measure of peace to put them to rest, and its in each other that they find that answer they were looking for all this time.

       there's whispers of an unspoken truth in the way he sought her lips, the way he laces his fingers into her hair, his palm nestled against the back of her head... as though for the very last time. this isn't just some void he's trying to fill with her affection, piecing himself back together with the love she has to offer him. no--- she's a part of him that he can't bear to lose.

                                                  not like i’ve lost everybody else.

    ��  when he pulls away, it's deliberately slow, like it's the very last thing he wanted to do. peering at her through hooded eyes, they close again, and he rests his brow against hers briefly, before her head lowers to his chest. it fits neatly beneath his chin, and it's there he settles as well, simply relishing in the closeness with a quiet sigh. his hand drifts to her back, and qrow cracks his eyes open again, curling his lip.

               “  ‘ birds of a feather ’, huh?  ” pushing people away has never really been a matter of choice, but of necessity. it's been his style for so long, he never knew how to do anything else, or act any other way. if he wanted to hold on to anything, or anyone he loved, then keeping it all at arm's length was the only way. those few moments with clover afforded him a glimpse into something better... but then it was all ripped away from him again.

                                      maybe... this time could be different.

               “  ... the first time we met,  ” he begins gently, “  ... you remember what you said?  ”

                    ... “ children of misfortune. ”

       he didn't think much of it at the time, glossing over her words without a second thought--- but it's stayed with him nonetheless.

What i hate about folks claiming that ironwoods fall was good writing and we are just bitter fans is that they forget every character was fucked over in v8. No character came out of the season better written or with more nuance. V8 writing activelly made every character worse. 3/4 of our main girls sit in the mansion for most of the volume, the other team let a grimm transform for 30 seconds and take oscar, the man that beats up a kid for 3 episodes is redeemed in death i guess, oscar has a bomb in the cane now, emerald is forgiven and trusted somehow, everybody forgets that cinder is in atlas even tho ruby fought her in v7 finale, harriet was in love clover now i guess, qrow blames everyone except tyrian for clovers death, his teased fight with ironwood never happens cause robyn uses talk no jutsu on him while bad mouthing a dead man... and the list goes on and on and on, not even touching the penny stuff. Not only ironwood fans should be disapointed at this shit?

It is so strange to me anon. I don't understand why anyone is happy with any of the character arcs in volume 8. We have RWBY and JNR being narratively treated as completely interchangeable without any changes to account for the different character arcs. Worse, as you said, none of the characters had any sort of arc in volume 8.

The characters don't really question any of their decisions, they don't really have to deal with the consequences of their actions, they don't have to struggle to figure out what to do, they're just handed everything they need on a silver platter with no effort to make it happen. Hell only Yang has 8 volumes in faced Salem face to face. Only one fourth of the main cast has faced off against the main antagonist of the series. Yet for some reason we just had to shove in a whole arc of James being a villain so much so that he is labeled as a main character of the volume and Blake, again one of the four main title characters, is labeled as a side character.

Volume 8 is a poorly written mess that fans want to be good because they have invested too much time in the show to accept that it has poor writing in it. You're allowed to like a show with a bad season. I still adore for example Star Wars Rebels despite hating the second half of season 4. Sometimes shows you love screw up. You can still like the thing and accept that it screwed up and criticize those screw ups. Taking the time the point out ways a show can be improved is a way to show you care, because you spend your valuable time pointing out things to improve shows you care enough to want to see it better.

In the RWDE community at least not just Ironwood fans are annoyed with what happened, fans of every character are frustrated because the writing is so damn inconsistent and poorly done. But these fans refuse to see this and don't want to see the problems in the writing.
