Huckley is the largest member of the digital circus crew, he’s got Kinger and Jax beat in height by at LEAST a good foot and some change, if not more! Despite his imposing size and build however, Huckley is the textbook definition of a gentle giant; dude can lift wholeass trucks with one arm, yet will actually cry over tiny kittens being cute.

Do NOT mistake his gentle nature for weakness however, as he will not hesitate to serve a beat down if his friends or loved ones are in danger. Jax had to learn this the hard way lol. Huckley is over all fiercely loyal to his friends and family, and he will tolerate absolutely ZERO fuckery happening to them.

In his free time, Huckley enjoys lifting weights, watching and playing football, and watching romantic comedies. (He’s a sappy boy who likes to laugh lol)

Out of curiosity, do any of your birds swear? My neighbors had a particularly foul-mouthed (fowl-mouthed for a pun) cockatoo when I was little. My sister was 2 when they moved in, and she learned a whole lot of new words. My mother was NOT happy about this. Ever since then, I have always found birds that cuss to be hilarious and also fascinating. I wonder if they understand that it's a sound people sometimes make when they're upset, and how much they're able to understand the concept of profanity, at least in the context of "my human doesn't like it when I make these sounds in this order".

Ripley used to say “gawdamit” in the voice of a roommate we used to have, especially when he was throwing toys around. Since I was bringing him to work with kids at the time, we had to start silently looking away from him every time he said it so that he stopped saying it.

It’s especially easy for a lot of parrots to pick up swears because as soon as they say something that sounds vaguely like a swear, they get a really entertaining reaction out of all the humans around them (usually laughter, but also scandalized gasps, or “no! don’t say that!!”)

It’s been years since he said any curse words, but we make an effort not to swear in anger or excitement so he doesn’t pick them back up. We do swear in casual conversation pretty liberally, and he doesn’t seem that interested in adding it to his lexicon.

Ripley still yells at his toys when he throws them around, though; usually the same things that we yell when we play video games: ouch! stop! hey! no no no no no! aaaaarrrrghh!

There’s a blog run by an animal behaviourist who specializes in parrots that i really enjoy reading, she has a very good writeup on the state of companion parrots as an industry: The Inconvenient Truth About Cockatoos

so basically the average person usually cannot meet the needs of a parrot, especially medium and ESPECIALLY large species. they are long lived, extremely social and intelligent animals who are very demanding if you are their only companion. in my mind the most 'ethical' pet parrot setup is having some pairs of budgies in a dedicated bird room filled with foraging enrichment and doing some basic command training as a bird-human bonding activity instead of cuddles.

most pet parrots are hand reared or even hatched in incubators by breeders and are never given a chance to be raised by their parents, and virtually none stay with their parents until a natural weaning age before getting sold. which is wild considering it is fucking ILLEGAL to do that to puppies or kittens.

A parrot isn't really born wired for human companionship in the same way that a dog or cat is. they imprint on their parents which sets the blueprint of their kin, and they generally want to only form extremely close bonds with others of their kin. To get a very people-oriented parrot, it has to think it’s people.

This is different from the socializing practiced in raising cats and dogs or acclimating ferals to people. socializing means exposure to things so that the animal doesn't grow up to see the target as a threat, and ultimately that the target is something that can be very rewarding to spend time around. A dog raised with its mother and socialized to people still understands that it's a dog, it can get along with other dogs, but can also form strong bonds to people. They actually read both dog and human body language and legitimately have an awareness that we are different species.

The companion parrot is raised to think it’s people, and as a result many lose the ability to form bonds with their own kind. in fact the reason many breeders remove eggs or chicks from the nest is arguing that the parent birds don’t really know how to raise their chicks- because they themselves were hand reared and never learned how to parent from their parents! it seems that, like us, parenting isn't perfectly hardwired in parrots and they need to learn the skill from their families, oftentimes even staying to help their parents raise younger siblings!

That's why it's not at all uncommon for pair bonded breeding birds to be sold as a completely separate product from companion birds in many aviary operations. there's so many ads for people selling breeding parrots that fucking hate humans or are semi tame specifically listed for sale as breeders not as pets:

then their babies are bred for the pet market so they are taken either before or right after hatching to get hand reared and imprinted onto humans, because a parrot-bonded parrot just won't be as interested in forming those close human companionships you see in viral videos. this isn't the case for all aviaries, i want to acknowledge there are smaller scale breeders who have tamer breeding birds, but big producers can have borderline feral pairs and the point i'm trying to make is when you socialize a parrot to either the human world or parrot world, it's often at the expense of the other.

most trouble starts once the parrot begins reaching the age of sexual maturity. they stop being openly cuddly to most people, and will try to pair bond with their primary caretaker. It's not uncommon for this to lead to aggression towards other family members because parrots don't share partners, they can even do this to babies they are jealous of!

But a human can't become a suitable mate substitute for a parrot, and some of their mating behaviours such as regurgitating on you can seem straight up gross so the human then shuns the parrot and shuts down their advances. this can make your bird become very sexually frustrated that can lead to more unwanted behaviours and even health emergencies such as prolapse. we lead them on by stroking their chest and backs (only something bonded pairs do, you are essentially jerking off your parrot when you do this..) then reject them with no other outlet for their natural urges, and spaying/neutering isn't an option either! so they're stuck in a psychological purgatory of being unable to fulfill their instincts. and if they're in an understimulating environment and left alone for most of the day in addition to all that, frankly i think that's just an awful life to give to an animal we allegedly love!

we essentially alienate them, and when they don’t have people around to meet their extremely high social needs because you work a 9-5, even if there are other birds around, the lonely or frustrated human-bonded parrot can become depressed and self mutilate.

parrots that were left with their parents, are raised as parrots, and weaned at their own natural pace overwhelmingly do not exhibit these destructive behaviours.

 a productive relationship with a pet parrot is one that fosters independence, not dependence, on the human companion. the most responsible parrot owners should strive to act more as a zookeeper to their parrot instead of cuddling it and creating a ‘velcro’ bird glued to the hip, and socialize with them via training sessions instead of letting their birds indulge in pair bonding behaviours like petting and preening which leads to sexual frustration and aggression or self mutilation.

Ultimately I believe any parrot hand reared and imprinted onto humans is some degree of psychologically damaged and suffers from the parrot equivalent of a developmental trauma, they have been robbed of a normal parrot life and it cannot be undone.

SO many parrot rescues are completely flooded with unwanted pets, many with tough behavioural challenges (for example it's not uncommon for parrots to be reactive to an entire gender, so that cuts the adopter pool immediately in half). and these patterns can be difficult to break especially without the aid of a behaviourist. and the thing still has another 40 years of life left in it but nobody wants to adopt because it's another "crazy bitey bird that hates everyone", has reached sexual maturity so it's no longer as friendly, and it's much easier to start from scratch so folks choose to just buy another baby and keep the cycle going.

And none of that even touches on the rampant poaching that keeps supplying the trade in many parts of the world. and that's why everyone should have domestic chickens or pigeons.

Daemon AU

You can always catch me with a daemon AU for a source I enjoy 😅 For anyone unfamiliar with His Dark Materials, a daemon is the animal manifestation of a person’s soul! They can change shape in adolescence but will “settle,” usually around puberty, as the animal that best represents the person.

Headcanons:

-Elphaba’s daemon is a female crow named Tapiwa. Her parents’ daemons, as upset by her birth as her parents themselves, refused to name her daemon. Dulcibear is the one who named Tapiwa, hoping the name would bring good luck to Elphaba.

-A crow isn’t unusual, and while a same-gender daemon is less common, Elphaba was grateful she didn’t settle as anything that would bring more negative attention to her.

-Glinda’s daemon, Ambrose, is unsettled, but they pretend that he is. He takes the form of a galah cockatoo, and while they know he will settle eventually and their façade will be exposed, she’s too afraid of the social consequences of being unsettled in her 20’s to be honest. It’s restricting and feels like the emotional equivalent of squeezing into a corset a few sizes too small, so part of the reason she wanted a private suite (besides being spoiled) was so she and Ambrose could breathe every once in a while.

-Elphaba finds out that Ambrose is unsettled when she comes back early from a canceled class to find Glinda in their room with…a cat? Glinda begs Elphaba not to tell anyone, and Elphaba agrees because that’s none of her business (though she is secretly tempted to tell).

-Ambrose settles at the end of Defying Gravity, when Glinda realizes she made a mistake in staying behind and finally understands who she really is. The cockatoo wasn’t wrong, but it wasn’t complete. It represented beauty and society and freedom, and it was how Glinda wanted to be seen, but it didn’t represent one very important aspect of her: the fear. He settles as a simple house mouse—black in color, which Glinda believes is because of her love for Elphie.

Bonus:

-Animals are humanoid in this AU as they should be, and their souls take the form of precious stones usually worn in jewelry, but some surgically implant them for extra security. Their lack of daemons contributes heavily to the way they’re treated by humans.

I really liked the characterization of the boys in this fic and it had good pacing and plot. I believe you're UT sans roommate and then all the machine bs happens and it pulls through UF sans first and then HT sans a bit later on in the story.

Dirty Laundry(fem and masc) by Popatochisp, Complete, 162,476 words for fem 182,622 words for masc

• THE swapfell fic. Both skeleton brothers x reader here with SF sans being romanced later on in the book. I absolutely devoured this fic it was great pacing,great characterization,THE PLOT 😙👌. So it starts off with you doing laundry at a Laundromat and you feel someone watching you. Looking around you see a tall skeleton trying to sneakily watch you and you're like what is he up to. So you approach him and you're like can I help you and he gets super embarrassed because the whole issue here is he doesn't know how to do laundry. So you teach him and end up getting his number and he wants you to become his adulting teacher basically. Not gonna spoil much more but this book is! so! good! Really fluffy with just the right amount of drama and action mixed in. Hard recommend!

•Another reverse harem this one has a bunch of boys let's see romance wise there's UT, US, UF, and SF maybe G!Sans as well can't remember, There's also ink and error but they're there for plot reasons. This one is cute and has good pacing. I can't really remember the plot super well besides the ending and I don't want to spoil that for y'all. I picked it up for the smut but ended up really liking it and how the author portrays the boys is pretty good!

•Okay first of all this fic does NOT have a happy ending and I figured that out the hard way. Istg it hurt me so bad I couldn't read fanfiction for like two weeks after I finished it because I couldn't stop thinking about the ending and it was ruining my reading experience. SO BE WARNED. This fic is a US sans x reader with uh some US papyrus x reader as well. Absolutely great fic here, the plot and pacing are perfect I love the boys here. I remember the plot of this one so viscerally starts off with an earthquake and you end up saving US sans. He gets your number and wants to befriend you basically right away. Don't want to spoil anything but the story moves pretty quick so you won't be waiting long if you read this!

This is by the same author as the last one and kinda follows a simular plotline but instead it is UT sans x reader. If i remember correctly it does have a happy ending. So a fair warning for this one Sans is abusive at some points its actually a pretty big plot point so if topics like that are triggering to you this is not the fic for you. I cant really remember the plot of this one too well but im pretty sure you meet papyrus first and sans a bit later on. Its pacing is pretty decent and i feel it has a good amount of drama plus you get to have a kid with sans near the end which was cute to see.

Ah, don’t tell him your mind is stuck thinking about something you shouldn’t be. He’s not at all innocent just because appearance, he knows what he’s doing.

Did I ever say that he also kisses your hands while calling you his “beloved swan.” (I’m sorry I’m shameless). He’s such a gentleman giving you cute and sweet nicknames “my beloved swan & my dearest dove.” while you on the other hand are just a menace.

“My lovely rock pigeon.” Anyone hearing that would be so confused and honestly, he is a little. How creative could you be with nicknames? Like calling him “my beautiful stork.” Or “royal tern.” 

The more and more you begin to find more and more white bird names to use for him the more he questions everything.

“You have little wings and feathers right here so I don’t see a difference really.” you point out the little mini version of wings by the sides of his hair.

along with your words, Sunday grabs your hand and intertwines it with his. “some birds bite if you get too close to them, maybe I should bite you.”  He playfully threatens as he brings your hand closer to his mouth.

“don’t worry I don’t bite that hard.”

Inomata’s Design Notes & Memories - Destiny Cast

I’ve linked images of each thing she references below.

Unlike the first batch of Eternia characters I previously posted, these were in Japanese. And unlike the Destiny 2 ones I translated, she talks about her experiences with the characters in the game and not just her design processes!

The book in question is this one.

What I think about most when designing characters is their colors and the components to their look. The characters are displayed as such small sprites, so in order to be able to differentiate them from each other, I give each of them a specific color palette and unique accessories to each of their outfits.

Stahn’s thing was his scarf. I also made sure his shoulder pads, gloves, and boots looked huge.

Rutee is supposed to be a thief, so I made her look a bit like a ninja. I didn’t want her to look too girly, so I gave her shorts and exposed her navel. For colors I went with red and black, since that’s a distinctive palette. Whenever I’d do boss battles, she’d always be joyfully picking 2 gald off the ground instead of healing my very low HP characters (laughs). I thought about removing her from my party to prevent this, but then I’d feel bad, and it just made me think “this is all part of her plot” (laughs).

Philia is a priestess through and through. I went for white and green to give her an earthly feel (laughs). Her glasses and braids were a strong request from Namco. I came up with designs for her, but they didn’t have the glasses or braids, so they were repurposed for the priests in Straylize Temple. It was the basis for Philia’s design as well as Elraine’s in the sequel. Philia has her eye on Stahn, but he eats too much and he oversleeps. I feel like they’d work out better if Philia was more the assertive type herself (laughs).

Woodrow is an archetypical handsome man, so I didn’t have much to stress about when designing him. He’s a king, so I wished he had a stronger atmosphere behind him. I almost never used him when playing the game though (laughs). When you break into Dycroft, I thought, “it’d be really cool in a narrative sense to use him here, but he’s just so weak”. But you get special dialogue if you take him along, so I went “tsk” and brought him anyway. “Just stick to the backlines and don’t die” (laughs).

Leon’s really easy to draw, so again I didn’t have much to stress about when drawing him. He has a princely vibe to him, so I gave him white tights, but everyone was taken back by it! I thought, “is it that weird?” and ended up making them less tight fitting (laughs). He acts a bit snobbish, gets seasick easily and refuses to eat vegetables, so he really crosses off a lot on the “young master” list. He’s also really fun to use in battle (laughs). He has a really low defense stat but he hits fast, so it’s crucial that you string your combos together. When paired with Stahn, if you can isolate your bosses in the far side of the screen, they go down quite fast. Then I see the popup that Rutee’s picking gald off the floor again and I just use healing items on him (laughs).

I wanted to make Chelsea cute and small, so I based her image off of little birds. I gave her a palette of pink, green and blue, and made her hair look like a cockatoo or parrot. Her bloomers look like a paper lantern and I find them quite cute (laughs). Her life story makes me want to cry though. She’s fine and all in the first game, but in the sequel, she’s still wearing those bloomers from when she was a kid, living all alone on a snowy mountain. And if you go through her drawers, you can take something that Woodrow gave to her. I felt so bad, I thought “even though it’s so out of the way, I’ll go buy all the items you need!” (laughs). Then she makes all of these bows for you, but by then, I’d already enhanced my weapons a lot… But I felt so bad that I never Refined them and thought, “I’ll keep these on me forever” (laughs).

Johnny’s original idea was “troubadour,” but as the story progressed and I gave him his hat and all sorts of plumes, he came out a bit comical (laughs). He’s a really fun character to have in your party though, and I fell in love with him right away. I love that his tone-deafness does physical damage to the enemies (laughs).

With the Swordians, they have the will of humans and I wanted to incorporate that into their designs, but it didn’t seem to fit so I went for something more inorganic. Berselius alone has a creepy aura to him, and when Destiny 2 came around I thought “But his owner is such a nice person! Is it really okay for him to have such a creepy design?” but then I thought well, maybe Harold just likes things that way (laughs).
