Summary:

Grian, when it comes down to it, is many things— a patchwork quilt of stolen code, copied memories, disparate ashes lifted from the last dregs of fire and pressed back into a mold; the facsimile of a Player. Of his own borrowed faults, he cradles many: stubborn persistence, reckless impulsivity, a cruelty born of his own capricious fractals. All gnash their teeth against the speckled woodgrain of Grian’s self-control, a gnawing beast at the distal roots of rotting trees. With the sun’s tempered ascent limning every raddled board in the wall, what wells up between his gums and teeth now is impatience. Last night’s fall had been snake eyes in a roll of the dice, paid for in the hot, tender pulses at the back of his skull, collected tenfold in the blossom of bruises swallowing his skin beneath the jumper. The warm, giddy buzz thrilling in his chest has begun to cool somewhat, making deferential way for a wash of numb static; blinding, a little stupid— lutulent where he stares blankly at the wall. Blink; the world falls prey to a hazy fog, twin cotton veils tumbling over his eyes. Blink again; it peels back at the corners, a wince in the early march of morn. Caught between two maligned realities, Grian traces the muzzy halftones where they curve and melt into the floor, and follows each crevice in the wood until his eyes begin to burn.

Okay I forgot I had something that fit lmao. Here ya go im gonna cheat a bit. This is from my long fic Today Could Be the Last. I posted Chapter 13 today and I'm really excited aboout it!

Scene set post-Treviso:

She hated the Lighthouse, if only for it having the loudest silence she had ever known. Something always seemed to be itching at the back of her ear, begging to be heard. Rook could feel the pain emanating off Lucanis, though he didn’t so much as raise his voice. That was worse.

“I do want to finish this, Rook.”

Rook leaned against the wall. “I understand if I’ve lost your trust.”

He finally turned to her. “That’s not how…I’m…”

“Let me earn it back. I want to find a way. There’s more work to do in-”

Lucanis held up a hand. “Please that’s not necessary. Viago and Teia told me the work you’ve done already. That’s why I’ve returned.”

His eyes flashed purple. “You. Hurt.”

“Spite! I didn’t do it on purpose. I didn’t know-”

His voice pitched to a shout, and he stepped forward. “YOU! HURT!”

“Lucanis! Listen to me!” She pleaded. It wasn't enough. Their hands, his hands, reach for her throat. 

“Hey! That’s enough!”

“Sihu!”

“Rook!”

A cacophony as someone stepped in between them. Davrin, in a voice she’d only heard him reserve for monsters.

“Back off! Touch her and you’re dead!”

He still only had his training sword. Lucanis/Spite seemed to be wrestling for control. Taash was a step behind.

“Take Rook and go. I’ve got this.”

Davrin gestured for her to walk ahead of him, and they went up to her room. She started shaking then. She didn’t think Spite would have actually hurt her, but the look on Lucanis’ face…the blight. She started pacing as soon as Davrin closed the door. He leaned against the wall, arms folded.

“You alright?”

Rook’s voice cracked. She laughed but it sounded hollow even to her.

“No. No I’m not alright.”

He hummed in agreement. “When was the last time you slept Sy?”

She looked at the toy griffon, at its place by the glass. She didn’t answer, continuing her pacing.

“You need to get out for a day or two. You need a break. You’re going to crack.” His voice was calm. For some reason that made her angrier.

“I don’t have time.” Rook threw her hands up.

Davrin just looked at her, arching his brows. She exhaled hard.

“What the gods did to Treviso…I have to make it’s right. It was my fault. Me! If I can’t-”

“You will. We’ve got a team. We’ve got a plan. Once Antoine and Evka get back to us…You have time. You need to take it.”

Rook sighed, resting her hands on the back of the green couch. “I need to talk to Lucanis-”

“If he can’t control that thing I have to-”

She caught it. The slight crack in his voice. She whipped her head around.

“No. I make that call. You have to let me make that call.”

Davrin growled. “He could kill you next time. I won’t let that happen.”

“He won’t. You need to trust me on this. Give him a chance.”

He looked down at his feet, shifting his weight from one foot to the other. He sighed.

“Fine. If you promise to come with me to Arlathan day after tomorrow. I want to take Assan for another walk.”

He looked up at her, smiling. Rook felt her lips twitch.

“It’s a date.”

They held each other’s gaze a moment too long. She felt the heat rush up her neck, but she held her ground. He straightened slowly. He still didn’t look away.

“Right. I think I like the sound of that.” He grinned.

Her stomach flipped. Davrin cleared his throat and turned away.

“Take a nap. Promise not to kill Lucanis while you’re sleeping.”

Rook snorted and watched him walk away, heart hammering in her ears. He turned back to look at her when he got to the door. His voice was mock stern despite his smile never fading.

“I mean it. Go to sleep. Just for an hour. For me.”

He winked. Then he was gone, and it was just her and the fish.

Hot Summer Nights and Playing Pretend

Back when Tommy and Sal were together in a way as much they could be, Tommy found an old picture of a younger Sal. Sal told him to throw it away but Tommy kept it and put it on his dash where it could easily be flipped down. On hot summer nights when they hadn't seen each other for a while he would flip it up and stare at it and pretend they were something they would never be if only for a second.

Okay, so my brain doesn't want to write, but it does want to do...whatever this is. These were all made in PowerPoint, built from scratch. The only thing I didn't make my own version of is the Cal picture on the last one.

This is the tab selection design. The one that says 'advanced' is taken in game. I was wondering what I could use this for, but then I realized it works well as a name plate! So my ao3 name and my tumblr name! this was the third thing I made

next are meditation circles! I couldn't decide which one I liked more. So first two are mine. The last is a reference I pulled from a search because I couldn't get a good angle in game. This was the fourth/last thing I made!

Next is the second thing I made! The data bank...cover cards? I don't know what to call them lol. There's another shape I'm tempted to try out, but I like these ones. First one is mine, second is taken in game.

Last but not least! the first thing I did. the tactical guide data cards. Technically the little icon on the right outside the card is supposed to be either an icon of the next entry or the cover icon for the next category so I didn't need it, but I couldn't resist.
