If you would have to choose a word to describe Max, it would be âoverprotectiveâ, because thatâs what he is. Itâs not a bad thing, per say. He isnât overbearing or controlling at all, but he is simply overprotective. And if you thought he was overprotective when the two of you were dating or when you first got married, you have to admit that you were not, at all, prepared for his protectiveness when you told him that you were pregnant. Apart from his initial meltdown over becoming a dad, or rather becoming like his own father, Max has been pretty chill about the whole thing â with the exception being your safety, of course. The underlying problem isnât the fact that youâre some sort of daredevil because youâre not, the problem is the fact that Max believes that everything is out to get you.Â
The olives you wanted to eat for breakfast? Choking hazard. Â
The candles you bought for the living room (to be purely decorative, but still)? Fire hazard. Â
The pool lounger Victoria thought would be a cute addition to the pool? Drowning hazard. Â
The seatbelt in his car that is surprisingly tight? Could be all three, according to Max, given the right (or wrong) circumstances. Â
So, yeah, maybe he wasnât that scared of becoming a dad, but he was surely scared of you being in danger. Thatâs why you agreed to stay back for the most races this year â you knew he didnât need to worry about you or your babyâs safety on top of the stress he had to deal with during the usual racing weekend. That was until you realised how much you would miss your boyfriend after almost a month of not seeing him due to a triple header. And so, you did the thing any person with a common sense would do â flying out to see him without telling him beforehand, because whatâs the fun in that? Â
The sheer look of shock on his face might be the funniest thing youâve ever seen when you meet him in his driverâs room, but of course Max doesnât share the same sentiment as you. Because all he chooses to focus is the fact that you were on a plane â a 0.23% risk out of very 7.7 million flights each year, but still. He spends at least half an hour, just checking you over and assuring himself that you and the baby are fine; at some point he decides that you need to go to the nearest hospital to get an ultrasound just to make sure the baby is okay, but you tell him to fuck off and calm his tits down in the kindest way possible. And thatâs how the two of you end up on the small couch in his driverâs room, with his arms around you as you lay between his legs, his hands splayed on the swell of your stomach as he caresses the skin through the fabric of your dress. His voice is low as he tells you about his day, mostly media duties since it is only Thursday, and how he thinks putting a cat tree in the nursery is a bad idea (that was your idea initially, but you can see how having two rumbunctious cats hang out in the nursery could cause problems).Â
âI also thought about something else,â he mumbles, suddenly busying himself with the flower pattern of your dress instead of looking at you. Â
You raise your brows slightly, motioning him to continue, but let out a huff when he doesnât do so right away. âCome on,â you whine softly, âtell me what it is Maxie.â Â
âI donât want him to get into karting.â His words are soft, mumbled, and most definitely final. You know how Max can be when he puts his mind into it, and this particular topic has been a discussion in your household ever since the two of you found out that you were having a boy. âI donât want him to go through what I went through.âÂ
Letting out a soft exhale, you motion Max to six next to you on the couch. âHe wonât,â you assure him, voice soft as you give pleading looks at him, âyouâre not your father, Max.â He gives you a look that basically begs for you to not dwell on the topic, but you continue despite the look he gives you, âAnd what if he wants to get into karting? Are you going to tell him no?âÂ
Max tries his best to ignore the knowing look you give him, knowing very well that he wonât be able to ever say ânoâ to his son, who already has him wrapped around his finger. âI might do that, you never know.â He grumbles, hiding his face in your hair â though the soft giggles coming from you manages to put a soft smile on his face. âYouâre supposed to agree with me, you know, we have to be a united front.â  Â
âWeâll discuss it when the baby comes, until then, Iâll be the voice of reason.â You emphasise, poking him at his bicep to convey your point. âYou feel better now?âÂ
âKinda,â he murmurs, leaving small kisses onto the exposed skin of your shoulder as he keeps on murmuring against your skin, âI would feel better if I knew you stayed in bed all day, relaxing.âÂ
With that, you choke a loud laugh, and motion him to stand up as you try to do it yourself â though, of course, he has to help with the baby bump being in the way of you doing any sort of physical activity. âYouâre funny, letâs go get me ice cream.â Â
The only response you get back is a confused look from your husband, his head tilted to the side as he eyes you warily. âWhat does that have to do with anything?âÂ
âUm, excuse me?â You raise an eyebrow, âYour son,â pointing to your stomach, you emphasise your words, âis craving ice cream right now.â Â
Maxâs eyes soften instantly, and a smile creeps across his face. He nods, taking your hand gently as he helps you up. âWell, if my son wants ice cream, then ice cream he shall have.âÂ
You giggle as you both make your way out of the driverâs room, Max's hand never leaving yours. The paddock is bustling with activity, but for a moment, it feels like it's just the two of you, cocooned in your little world. As you approach the nearest concession stand, Maxâs protective instincts kick in once again. âIs this ice cream stand safe? How long have they been here? Do they have the proper health certifications?âÂ
You roll your eyes playfully. âMax, itâs ice cream, not a five-course meal. Iâm sure itâs fine.â He sighs but nods, deciding to trust your judgment. After all, you did manage to fly all the way here without incident and somehow alerting him. You both get a generous serving of your favourite flavours, and as you sit down to enjoy your treat, you feel a sense of normalcy and contentment wash over you.Â
Max watches you with a tender expression, his eyes filled with a mixture of love and worry. âI know I can be overprotective,â he says softly, reaching out to brush a stray hair from your face, âbut itâs only because I love you so much.âÂ
You smile, leaning into his touch. âI know, Max. And I love you too. But sometimes, you need to trust that everything will be okay. Weâll figure things out together, just like we always do.âÂ
He nods, his gaze shifting to your belly. âYouâre right. I guess I need to talk to my mom.â Â
âWhy?â You ask, tilting your head to the side in curiosity. Â
âWell, she promised me sheâd look after you but youâre here, so I think we need to have a talk about not keeping secrets from each other.â He mumbles, dragging a hand down his face.Â
You laugh, nudging him playfully. âOh, Maxie, who do you think helped me with my bags at the airport? Your mom is unsurprisingly a strong woman.âÂ
He chuckles softly, shaking his head. âI shouldâve known better than to think youâd stay put for a whole month.â He sighs, but thereâs a smile playing on his lips. âAlright, but next time, at least let me know youâre planning something. My heart can only take so much.âÂ
Max feels a lot better after tricking you with ice-cream into at least staying put withing the Red Bull hospitality for the day as he gets through his media duties. Max feels a lot better after tricking you with ice cream into at least staying put within the Red Bull hospitality for the day as he gets through his media duties. He periodically checks in, making sure you're comfortable and well-fed. Each time he sneaks a glance your way, you catch him with a knowing smile and a roll of your eyes, and he returns it with a wink. He knows that there is absolutely no reason for him to be checking on you as much as he does, because youâll be fine in the cool hospitality suite with enough water to keep you hydrated for years, but he canât help but worry about anything and everything going wrong. And his worries prove to be true when he sees the one person who he definitely doesnât want around you. Â
âWhat are you doing here?â He asks the approaching figure, âI thought you were not going to be coming to this race but the next one.â Â
âGiven the drop in your performance in the last few races I thought I should be here for... support.â His dad supplies, eyes finding you behind his sonâs back on one of the couches in the hospitality, âAnd I can see the reason for why youâve been distracted lately, what is she doing here?â Â
Max scoffs, crossing his arms on his chest protectively, âSheâs my wife, she is more than welcome to be here.âÂ
âSheâs also a distraction, Max,â his father points out, âyouâre going to lose your focus if you keepââÂ
Since Max is faster than his father where it matters the most, he cuts him off before he can say anything further. âLeave, I donât want you here.âÂ
Maxâs father looks taken aback, his eyes widening momentarily before they narrow into a scowl. âExcuse me?â he says, his voice low and dangerous.Â
âYou heard me,â Max replies firmly, his stance unwavering. âI donât want you here if youâre going to criticize my wife and stress me out, or worse, stress her out.âÂ
âYouâre being irrational,â his father argues, taking a step closer. âIâm just trying to help you stay focused.â Seeing that his son is not going to back down anytime soon, he points a threatening finger towards him. âIâll be back on race day, but you better be ready to put in a winning performance,â his father finishes, his voice laced with finality. He turns on his heel and walks away, leaving a tense silence in his wake.Â
Max sighs deeply, running a hand through his hair as he watches his father disappear into the crowd. Looking back at you over his shoulder, talking to some interns from the social media team, he canât help but feel the dread of you having to face his father â which gives him another reason to somehow stop the two of you from running into each other during the weekend. Â
On Friday, Maxâs luck decides to do him a favour as you tell him that youâre not feeling well enough to go to the track with him for the qualifying, and though it is true that he wants you to be with him, he also realises that this will give him one less thing to worry about. He knows how stressful it can be for you to navigate the bustling paddock and deal with the crowds, especially with the added pressure of possibly encountering his father.Â
âYou rest up, okay?â he says, his voice full of concern. âI'll be back as soon as I can. If you need anything, just call me.âÂ
You nod, giving him a reassuring smile. âI will, Max. Good luck today. We'll be cheering you on from here.âÂ
Max leans down to kiss your forehead gently as he mumbles into your skin, âI love you.â Â
âI love you too,â you reply, your voice soft and comforting, âbe careful out there, okay?âÂ
Max has one goal throughout qualifying, and to his team principalâs dismay, it is not being on pole. His one and only goal is to get the session done with as quickly as possible and get back to you as soon as he can. After the session ends, he barely waits for the car to come to a stop before jumping out and heading straight for the hospitality suite. His team notices his urgency but knows better than to question it once he tells them heâll pay whatever fine the FIA will give him for missing his interviews.Â
Bursting through the door, Max finds you resting comfortably on the couch, a cup of tea in your hands. The sight of you immediately calms his racing heart. âHey,â he says softly, walking over to sit beside you. âHow are you feeling?âÂ
You smile up at him, still in his team gear and the hat he almost never takes off, the warmth in your eyes easing his worries. âBetter, now that you're here. How did it go?âÂ
âStarting on pole,â he replies, mostly in a mumble, taking your hand in his. âBut all I could think about was getting back to both of you.âÂ
You squeeze his hand, your expression tender. âI'm proud of you, Max. You did great.âÂ
He leans in, pressing a gentle kiss to your lips. âThanks. Let's just relax for the rest of the day, hm? I want to hold you to make sure youâre not getting out of this bed until tomorrow.âÂ
âYou know, I would be happier about this proposal if it was until different circumstances,â you sigh, earning a laugh from him as he pulls you towards his chest, being careful not to spill your tea, of course. Why? Because it is a safety hazard, of course.Â
As you settle back into the bed together, Max feels a sense of relief wash over him. The stress of the day melts away in your presence, and he realizes how much he needs these quiet moments with you to forget all about the outside world and focus his energy on what actually matters instead.Â
The next day, feeling much better, you prepare to join Max at the track for the race. Heâs still concerned but reassured by your determination to support him. As you arrive at the paddock together, Max is more attentive than ever, keeping an eye out for his father in hopes of trying to prevent the two of you running into each other. Navigating through the bustling paddock, Max keeps a protective arm around your waist, and a hand on your bump whenever the two of you stand somewhere talking to someone, guiding you through the throngs of people. His eyes constantly scan the crowd, his jaw set in a determined line. The other drivers and team members greet you warmly, and you return their smiles, feeling the anticipation that surrounds you.Â
âMax, relax a bit,â you whisper, squeezing his hand as you notice the tension in his posture.Â
He glances down at you, his expression softening slightly. âI just want to make sure everythingâs okay.âÂ
âI know,â you reply, reaching up to stroke his cheek, âbut weâre here to enjoy the race and support you. Try to focus on that.âÂ
He nods, taking a deep breath as both of you make your way to the Red Bull hospitality area. The team welcomes you with open arms, and you settle into a comfortable spot where you can watch the preparations for the race. He asks one of the interns to keep an eye on you, which he thought he was being sly whilst doing it, but you of course catch him in the corner of your eye. Thatâs when you realise the man walking towards him, your eyes meeting in nothing short of disdain for each other. Â
You stiffen slightly, your hand tightening around Maxâs hand as he turns just in time to see his father approaching, his protective instincts kicking into high gear as he lets go of your hand and decides to wrap his arm around you protectively instead.Â
âMax,â Jos says, his tone neutral but carrying an underlying condescension. âWe need to talk before your race begins, walk with me.âÂ
Max's grip tightens around you for a moment before he reluctantly loosens his hold. âWhat is it, Dad?â he asks, his voice steady but tinged with irritation.Â
Jos's eyes flicker to you before focusing back on Max. âI wanted to discuss strategy, but I can see this isn't a good time.âÂ
Max's jaw clenches, his protective instincts on high alert. âIf it's important, we can talk here. Iâm not leaving her side.â Â
Jos sighs, clearly frustrated. âFine, if that's how you want it.âÂ
Maxâs arm remains firmly around you as his father steps closer. âMake it quick,â Max insists, his tone leaving no room for argument. If other people were to see your eyes moving from one Verstappen to the other, theyâd probably think you are watching a tennis match, though the situation in front of you is certainly more tense than that.Â
Jos glances at you once more before addressing Max. âI just wanted to remind you to stay focused. Pole position is a great start, but you need to keep your head in the race.âÂ
Max's eyes narrow, and he lets out a scoff, âI know how to do my job, no need for reminder. Anything else?âÂ
Jos shakes his head, his expression a mix of disappointment and resignation. âJust donât let distractions cost you the win.âÂ
âWhat is that supposed to mean?â Max hisses, taking a step towards his father as he gently pushes you behind himself. You have to put a hand against his chest to slow him down, though that doesnât prove to be a sufficient prevention method. âI already told you; she is my wife, and he is not going anywhere so you better get that into that damaged brain of yours.âÂ
âMax,â you try to plead with him, âplease, not before your race.â Â
He gives you a look over his shoulder for a short moment before turning back towards his father. His jaw is set as he looks at the man in front of him. âIâll only tell you this one more time. When sheâs here with me, you donât show up. If you do show up, you donât come near her, you donât talk to her, you donât even look at her.â Another step taken towards his father has you tightening your hold on him, but he still manages to convey his message. âTry something like this again, and you wonât be in my life anymore let alone my sonâs.âÂ
Jos's lips press into a thin line, his eyes darting to you briefly before settling back on Max. âFine,â he repeats, his tone colder. âJust remember whatâs at stake every time you get behind the wheel.âÂ
Max stands his ground, his eyes locked onto his father's, unwavering. âI know exactly what's at stake, and I don't need you reminding me. Now, if youâll excuse us, we have a race to focus on.âÂ
Max stands his ground, his eyes locked onto his father's, unwavering. âI know exactly what's at stake, and I don't need you reminding me. Now, if youâll excuse us, we have a race to focus on.â
Itâs not the first time Max has stood up to his father, not by any means. But you can tell that this time affects him in a different way. The weight of the words exchanged and the implications for their future relationship linger in the air. You can feel the tension radiating from Max as he watches his father walk away, and it takes a moment for him to relax his posture and turn back to you. âPlease tell me something that will calm me down so I donât somehow do something that would put me to jail.â
âOkay,â you singsong, quickly positioning yourself in front of him so that you can fix him with a strict look on your face. âYou are not doing something that will put you into prison, period.â
âIâm going to need a very good reason because all I want to do right now is follow him to his car and punch him.â Unfortunately for you, the way his jaw is set is a telling sign that, no, Max would actually do something like this given the circumstances.
âThere is no sim racing in prison.â You try to provide, giving him a weak smile. Â
Max's lips twitch into a small, reluctant smile at your words, the tension in his jaw easing slightly. âNo sim racing in prison, huh? Do you honestly think that would keep me from doing something stupid?âÂ
âI panicked!â You exclaim, hitting him on his chest lightly as he laughs at you silently. âHow are you supposed to help me raise our son,â you point to your stomach to emphasise your point, âif youâre in prison, huh?â
Max's smile grows wider, the tension in his posture finally starting to melt away. âOkay, okay, youâve got a point,â he says, placing his hands on your shoulders and looking into your eyes. âI need to be here for both of you. But itâs so damn hard to ignore him.âÂ
You reach up and cup his face in your hands, your eyes soft and filled with understanding. âI know, but youâre stronger than him. And you have more important things to focus on. Like winning this race and getting me more ice cream on our way back to the hotel.âÂ
He takes a deep breath, nodding slowly as he lets out a soft chuckle. âYouâre right. I canât let him get to me. Not today.âÂ
âExactly,â you say, giving him a reassuring smile, âI usually am.âÂ
Max laughs, the sound lightening the mood even more. âYes, you usually are,â he agrees, pulling you closer for a brief kiss. âThank you for always knowing how to calm me down.âÂ
âThatâs what Iâm here for,â you say, resting your forehead against his. âNow, go out there and show everyone what you can do. Weâll celebrate with ice cream afterward.âÂ
âDeal,â he replies, his eyes twinkling with affection and determination. With one last squeeze, he lets you go and turns towards his team, his focus now fully on the race ahead. âBut I feel like I need to let you know that I would definitely go to prison for life for you.âÂ
You laugh, shaking your head. âDonât you have a race to win, Verstappen?âÂ
He grins, giving you one last kiss before heading off to prepare for the race, giving you a grin over his shoulder as he starts to move away, âSo, Iâll get the rest of that kiss after the race, then?âÂ
âYeah, Max,â you let out a breathy laugh, your eyes not leaving his for a moment, âafter the race!âÂ

Chapter 29: With a Little Help from My Friends
The next morning, the castle was submerged in chaos. With the mess the headless hunt had caused in the Slytherin Common room, most of them had left early and encountered the traps you and Remus had set up all over the dungeons. From dung bombs to stinky mist and firecrackers, the whole thing had been chaos.Â
Youâd sent Comet, Minho and Nox an anonymous warning in advance, telling them not to rush out of the common room as fast as they could in the morning, and to watch their step. You assumed it had been enough since they seemed relatively unharmed at breakfast. You still had yet to see the boys that morning, they hadnât made it to the great hall. None of them. It made you slightly anxious to say the least. Severus, Mulciber and Barty werenât around, and the latterâs roommates seemed unharmed, which was reassuring, they were probably still rolling on their beds.
When you went back to the common room you spotted Remus, he had his wand pointed at Peter while he held his friendâs jaw with his free hand. Peter looked horrified, so you rushed towards them âWhat are youââ Peter turned his face, he had a huge bruise on his left eye, and his nose was swollen. You winced, the fall from Evanâs hand must have been nasty.
Remus looked relieved with your interruption and took a step back from Peter, taking your shoulder and your lower arm in his hands and pushing you in front of the boy, âYou do it instead. Youâre better at charms.âÂ
âDo what?â You asked as he handed you a piece of paper with a spell written on it, âYou want me to fix his nose?! Are you insane?âÂ
âYou have to,â Peter said, voice a little hoarse, no doubt from the pain. You shook your head. âI canât go out like this, let alone to Pomfrey, sheâll assume I was out with Sirius and James for the prank. Canât get punished, Iâve got a date tonight.âÂ
You gave him an incredulous look, and then it dawned on you that Peter wasnât the only one with a date tonight. James would be absolutely bombed when he realised he wouldnât be able to go out with Lily.Â
âBut Iâm⌠This is serious medicinal magic Peter, people study for years to be able to do it.âÂ
âPlease,â he begged, he tried to make puppy eyes but his swollen nose and left lid didnât help him much, he looked like he urgently needed the bathroom instead. âPlease, please, please.â
You gave Remus a side glance as if asking him to back you up, but he said,â If anyone can do it, itâs you luv,â instead.Â
You groaned, closing your eyes and bouncing in your place before nodding and grabbing the paper again, rereading the instructions. The text was leaning to the side, handwriting neat, but clearly rushed, Remusâ handwriting. That was at least a little tranquillising, if it had been Moony the one to find the spell, then it must have been a good one. âHave you ever used this one?âÂ
âSirius is the one that uses the fixing charm. Heâs used it on James before,â Remus reassured.Â
âOn his face?â Â
âOn his shoulder,â he said as he shook his head lightly.Â
You gave the boys another unconvinced look, âPeter are you sure youââÂ
âPleaaaaase Vix,â he repeated, a little more desperate this time around.Â
You huffed, âThis girl better snog you so much you forget about the pain,â you said as you gulped and raised your wand towards your friendâs face. He shut his eyes like he was about to get hit, âDonât make faces Wormy, itâll make it worse.âÂ
âYou thinkââ he started, raising his eyes towards you and looking a lot more relaxed, but you didnât let him finish his words and cast the spell. He yelped at that, stifling a scream, before turning to you a little crossed, âOi, whereâs my warning?âÂ
âThey say it hurts less if youâre not expecting it,â you said with a shrug, he instantly frowned at that.Â
âDid it work?â he asked Remus. The werewolf made a face and Peter looked positively mortified, but then Remus started laughing and passed Peter a small mirror that was sitting on a nearby table. Â
The swelling was gone, and the bruise was fading rapidly âYouâre brilliant!â He told you as he stood up and shook your shoulders, delighted by how much better he looked already.Â
You almost laughed, âI still have some radiant complexion potion, you want a little?âÂ
âCosmetics?â he asked with a frown.Â
âIt helped me with the bruises on my jaw from Monday,â you said, pulling down the collar of the sweater you had been wearing to show your almost spotless neck, not low enough to show Siriusâ still fading hickey. But Remus was taller, and he easily spotted it, averting his gaze as the image of Sirius kissing your neck popped into his head. âCould help yours fade faster.âÂ
âAnd itâs not really cosmetics either,â Remus explained, âTechnically it would be more of aââÂ
âWill it make me more handsome?â Peter interrupted.Â
You raised your eyebrows at him, âuhh⌠Itâll make you more radiant.âÂ
âThen Iâll take it.â
You rolled your eyes but smiled. âSure thing Pete,â you said, âby the way, do you know anything about Pads and Prongs?â Peter shook his head.Â
âThey didnât make it to our room at all, I think Slughorn took them to McGonagall. She must be livid.âÂ
Then you heard the door of the portrait open and you spotted the boys, shoulders slumped, dark circles under their eyes, both looking completely defeated as they walked inside. You frowned as Sirius let himself fall on the sofa with a sigh, he had a bruise near his eye and another one on his left cheek. James seemed even more upset than Sirius, but he was in better condition, just some redness near his jaw.Â
You looked at them with worry and frowned, the survivorâs guilt gnawing at you. Peter and Remus seemed to be taking the sight of them a lot better than you did. You sat on the table in front of the boys, Remus took the armchair and Peter sat back down on the edge of the sofa, turning his head to look at them.Â
âSoâŚ?â the shortest asked.Â
âWe canât play tomorrow,â Sirius said as he tensed his jaw, âMcGonagall said itâd serve us right for picking up fights with the Slytherins. If only she knew.âÂ
âWhat?!â you asked, shocked.Â
âAnd we have detention all day, no Hogsmeade either,â Sirius continued.Â
âNo Lily,â James groaned, hiding his face in his hands.Â
âWill the Quidditch match be cancelled then?â Asked Peter with a frown, âtwo of the best players wonât be there.âÂ
James shook his head with a sigh, âWeâll call in the reserves.â He then sat up, eyeing you closely. âYouâll be the seeker.âÂ
You looked attentively and nodded. âIâm not too happy about that,â Sirius grumbled. You looked at him with a frown, ready to argue about being a good seeker when he spoke again, âBarty will be playing beater,â he informed. âI wonât be there.âÂ
âI can dodge.âÂ
âBecause you have a great record at dodging ,â Sirius said sarcastically, a smile playing on his lips. You gasped and swatted at him playfully, his shrugged in response.
âMarlene will be there, I trust her,â you said in a more serious tone.Â
âYeah, I trust her too, but not the Slytherins. And I have no clue who will play instead of Evan.âÂ
âHe also got punished?â you asked surprised.Â
Sirius nodded with a smile. âSlughorn was absolutely pissed, didnât even let him talk before he started reprimanding him for bringing the honour of the house down or something like that.âÂ
âWill they let you come to the game, at least?âÂ
James shook his head, âMcGonagall said the team would survive without us for a match. Although, Iâm sure she wasnât too happy about it, it was Slughornsâ idea.âÂ
âHow will you tell Lily about your date?â Peter asked. James just pouted in response.Â
âSheâll never, ever give me another shot.âÂ
âMaybe⌠she doesnât have toâŚâÂ
âThatâs incredibly uplifting, thanks Vixen,â the boy spat a little crossed.
âShut it, Prongs! Iâm trying to help,â you uttered, and turned to Remus. âRemember what I told you about the potion from Slughorn?âÂ
Remus looked at you, eyes filled with shock. âYou surely wouldnât be consideringâŚâ You nodded, a tight smile dancing on your lips.
âWhat are you considering?â Sirius asked, feeling a little left out.Â
âPolyjuice potion,â you said, turning back to your boyfriend with a confident smirk.
James looked up at you, a mix of shock, and gratefulness reflecting behind his glasses. âYou⌠youâd do that?âÂ
You shrugged, âI deserve the punishment as much as you do anyway. Iâll take the potion and pretend Iâm you while youâre in detention today. That way you donât have to reschedule the date with Lily.â
âBut what if they make them do menâs work in detention?â Peter asked, a little weary.
âThere isnât any menâs work I cannot do,â you said with a scoff. Youâd eventually regret those words.Â
As you had planned, you had done. Youâd gone to your room to pick up the potion and then met the boys in their room closely after.Â
âReady to be me?â James asked you as you stared at the potion in your hands. You threw him a look but nodded, extending your hand to his head and plucking a single piece of hair, before throwing it onto the flask you had used to store the potion. You werenât sure how long it was going to last, so you had separated enough to recharge its effect in the middle of the day in case it was necessary.Â
âAuch!â James complained, âCouldâve warned me.âÂ
âSheâs literally going to take the punishment for you Prongs,â Remus responded a little irked, he wasnât sure it was a good idea for you to go, especially with your still healing shoulder, but he also knew if he voiced his concern, heâd only make you more determined to do it, even if it was just to prove that you could.Â
âStill, you couldâve warned me,â he repeated. You shook your head as you contemplated the potion. Youâd never drank it, but the smell was deterrent enough.Â
âYou want me to do it instead?â Remus offered kindly.Â
You shook your head, a tight grateful smile on your lips at his offer. âNo, itâs⌠Itâs fine I can do this,â you said before bringing the flask up to your mouth and drinking it. The taste was as bad as the smell. You coughed a couple of times and handed the flask over to Remus who held it as you felt your legs start to wobble and your mind went dizzy. You felt a tingling sensation all over and let yourself fall back onto a trunk. Sirius rushed to hold you up but seemed deterred when he saw the way your skin was bubbling. In a matter of seconds, you were already an exact replica of James. You were still dizzy when you looked at your hands, much larger and stronger looking now.Â
âBIoody Mother of Merlin!â Sirius said in surprise.Â
âWeâve got two Jameses,â Peter said, looking at you and then back at James and then back at you again, completely baffled.Â
âHow do I look?â You said, raising a flirty eyebrow towards Sirius.Â
âHandsome as hell,â James replied about at the same time that Sirius cringed and said, âLike shit,â just to fuck with James. It earned him a soft punch on the arm. Remus and you were eyeing each other with diverted looks.Â
âAsshole,â James said, slightly irritated. âShe looks damn well.âÂ
You really admired Jamesâ confidence. You cooed your head and stood up, âHandsome as hell,â you repeated, trying to make your voice sound a little more like Prongâs. He winced at that, âOi, Iâm trying!â you said back in your tone. You had a manâs voice, in fact you had Jamesâ voice; you had his vocal cords after all. But they didnât sound quite right.Â
âI think I might be able to help you with that one,â Remus said as he pulled his wand up. âOpen your mouth and say ahhâŚâÂ
You raised an eyebrow, terrible choice of words, you thought. âWoah Moony, didnât think youâd get so kinky with me,â you teased. âThatâs way more of a Sirius thing to say.â And he had, in fact, said it a while ago, before you even started dating him.Â
Sirius stifled a laugh, the memory plaguing his mind while Peter was trying to figure out what you meant by that and why Remus had given you the look he had. When he finally understood, he flushed.Â
âFirst you wanted to blindfold me and nowâŚâ you pressed, just to see Remusâ reaction.Â
Sirius frowned. âWhen did you want to blindfold him? her, you know what I mean.âÂ
âWhen we met,â you said casually, âHe said I couldnât see your secret passages.âÂ
âAnd you let him?â
Remus shook his head and scoffed. âOf course she didnât,â he said matter-of-factly.Â
You gave him a pout, âIf it makes you feel better, Iâd let you blindfold me now.âÂ
Sirius laughed at your joke and Remusâ eye roll. The fact that you looked exactly like Prongs only made the entire situation even funnier. Remus just looked at you with a stern expression, he was just expecting you to do what he had initially asked.Â
You just smiled and stood up, feeling disoriented by the difference in height. You were taller than your boyfriend now, and almost as tall as Moony. You pressed your lips tightly against each other to avoid saying anything, another joke wouldnât have been wise at that point, you could tell by the way Remus was tapping his feet on the ground.Â
Eventually, you stood facing him and opened your mouth âAaaaaahâŚâÂ
Sirius, behind you, had to cover his mouth to avoid laughing blatantly at the way you had followed Remusâ instructions to the T and yet Remus seemed bewildered. Regardless, the boy picked his wand up and pointed it to your face, saying a few words and holding his wand to your face as he pulled it back and to the sides, as if he were calibrating something, which was exactly what he was doing. As he moved the wand your voice started to change. It went from your normal tone to helium inhalation level of high-pitched to sounding like Elvisâ. But eventually, he stopped, pulling the wand back from your face.Â
âSay something James would say.âÂ
You narrowed your eyes, thinking of something and then smiled mischievously, pulling out your best impression of James. âPads, hold your position! Vixen, another backflip! That one was wonky, again!âÂ
Sirius almost doubled over in laughter while James looked at you with a frown. âThatâs not how⌠Please tell me thatâs not how I sound.âÂ
âWell, not all the time,â you said with a shrug.
âBut thatâs exactly how you sound when youâre on Capitan mode,â Sirius added with a teasing smirk.
âWhen Iâm onâ You gave it a name?!?âÂ
âItâs so we can separate the screaming captain from our dear olâ James, it was Marleneâs idea,â you replied. James frowned.Â
âYou should change,â Peter said, âCanât go around with a skirt, can you?âÂ
You gave him a look and then turned your head downwards, âDonât know mate, Prongsâs got some nice calves,â you said tilting your leg to the side.
James winked at your reply while Remus threw you a clean pair of pants, a vest and a shirt. You unhooked your skirt and let it fall on the floor. âWhy are you wearing boxers?â Sirius asked and got a punch from James.
You quirked an eyebrow, âSomething made me assume it would be uncomfortable to keep normal knickers on after the change.âÂ
âOh,â Sirius and James said, a little surprised.Â
âClever,â Remus said, nodding your way.Â
You smiled and shrugged at his words -almost beaming from his praise- and then proceeded to put on the pants and finished changing, âhow do I look?â you said twirling around once you were done.Â
Sirius looked at you and placed a hand on his chin as if analysing, âAlmost perfect,â Sirius said as he turned to the side and took Jamesâ glasses away from his face and walked over to you, handing them over.Â
You took them and placed them over your eyes, wincing as you pulled them off almost instantly âJames mate, youâre blinder than Tommy.âÂ
âTommy?â James asked, confused.Â
âFrom the Movie,â replied Remus, dismissively.Â
âFrom The Who,â added Peter. You wondered if heâd gone to the cinema at some point in his last vacation. James didnât say anything after that, he still had no idea who this âTommyâ was but he also knew youâd tease the hell out of him if he asked.Â
You took the glasses off and used gemino to make yourself a perfect replica, taking the originals, or what you thought were the originals and giving them back to James. You put the other back on and narrowed your eyes to try and see better, you saw Peter extending his arm towards you, âHand them over,â he said simply.Â
You did, and he placed his wand over them, whispering a spell you hadnât heard yet and handing them back over to you, placing them back on and looking at him surprised âHow did youâŚ?âÂ
âMy sister used to make me wear her glasses so I looked smarter,â he said with a shrug. âThey gave me awful headaches so I dug through our library and found a spell to make them fake.âÂ
âThatâs brilliant Pete,â you said with a nod. He just smiled and nodded, pretty pleased with himself. Â
You took a deep breath and turned back to James âI think Iâm ready then. Do I look the part?âÂ
âDefinitely,â Remus said, the rest of the boys nodding in agreement.Â
âWell then,â you said with a clap, âTime to go get detention,â you added, looking over at Sirius.Â
He let his head fall back and groaned in response, then he looked over at Remus with a charming little smile, âMoony, donât you want to drink some of the potion and pretend youâre me today?âÂ
Remus raised his eyebrows and scoffed, âof course not.âÂ
âYou sure? You could use my dashing good looks to flirt around.âÂ
âNo, he couldnât,â you said with a scoff .âYouâre dating me. Even if it wasnât actually you, heâd only be allowed to flirt with me.â You sounded slightly jealous, which in a way was justified, after all they were talking about your boyfriendâs face. You tried not to think much that Remus âflirting aroundâ wasnât an image you wanted to see.
âThat sounds so weird coming from Jamesâ face,â Sirius said as he looked at you. âEither way, I suppose Iâll get going,â he said with a dramatic sigh, still staring at Remus as he continued walking towards you.Â
âOff you go,â Remus said, placing his hand on Siriusâ back and pushing him towards the door, to make him move faster, Sirius turned to you with a pout, the kind of face a kid would give their mother when their brother mistreated him. Meanwhile, Remus gave you the look that said âSee what I have to deal with?â
âHey James,â you said before leaving, he hummed in acknowledgement, âYou better not blow your date with Lilly.âÂ
âMaybe you should go instead,â Peter teased and got a scowl from James.Â
You just laughed, âSorry mate, I can take the punishment for you, but Iâm not gonna seduce the girl. Thatâs all off to you.âÂ
âSheâll want to marry me after today,â he said confidently.Â
You nodded âRemember not to overdo it, youâll scare her away.âÂ
When you were done, you closed the door behind you and turned to Sirius. âWhere are we supposed to meet?â
The moment McGonagall opened the doors, Peterâs words came floating back to your mind âBut what if they make you do menâs work in detention?â followed by your blatant response, âThere isnât any menâs work I cannot doâ.
You had regretted those words the moment you stepped into the dirty menâs loo. You were sure you gagged as you walked behind McGonagall and felt the dreadful smell, ever so characteristic of menâs lavatories, âI asked the elves not to wash the bathroom last night. Just for you,â she said, âwands,â she added, extending her open palm towards you, Sirius and Evan.Â
âDo you expect us to clean with our own hands?â Sirius complained. Evan said something similar next to him. You would have probably made a joke about how spoiled they both were if you werenât so shocked yourself.Â
âCan I⌠Can I do something else?â you said as she was about to leave. âIâll clean the owlery, I donât careââÂ
âMr. Potter.â She said sternly. You closed your mouth shut, only now remembering you were supposed to be James and not you. âMen up and stop whining, all you have to do is clean the toilets.â Sirius almost doubled in laughter at her choice of words.Â
âMinnie please,â you added, using the vocabulary James would have used, or perhaps that would have been Sirius, since the way the old teacher turned over and looked at you gave you the chills, making you unconsciously recoil towards Sirius.Â
âMr. Potter!â She said a lot more sternly now, âItâll serve you well to stop your silly pranks and occupy your mind with something productive. One more complaint and Iâll make you wash the prefectâs bathrooms and the greenhouses as well,â you nodded, not saying anything more as you watched her walk all the way towards the door, she turned right before leaving. âPebblier the house elf will be watching over you,â she informed, âso no fighting and no funny business unless you want to help polish trophies tomorrow.â
You gulped and nodded, itâs not that it would be you doing things those things tomorrow, but you still didnât want to subject James, let alone Sirius, to more torture. Once she was gone, you sighed, taking one of the mops and dipping it in water, holding your breath from the smell still filling your nostrils.Â
âWhat? Heâs mopping? Iâd rather mop thanâŚâ Evan trailed off, looking at the bathroom stalls.
As James, you were as tall as the blond and probably as strong as he was, you just turned to him with a stern face, tilting your head slightly to the side and bringing your hand from the handle to point at your face, âHowâs the eye?â you asked calmly, it had been such a simple and yet strong thrĐľat, Sirius was almost shocked. James would never be that bold.Â
Evan swallowed, it hadnât even been James who punched him and yet the way you had stared at him had somehow made him blech, he huffed after he got back his stance. Evan had never seen Potter be so intimidating, of course, he wasnât looking at Potter then. Most of the time, James was just an annoying ray of sunshine and jokes. He hoped heâd go back to that soon, he wasnât sure the thrĐľatening James would be so much fun to bother. âFine then, Iâll wash the stalls,â he grumbled after he took a hold of one of the buckets. Evan didnât want to polish the trophies either. Â
Sirius raised an eyebrow, looking at you impressed, he never thought heâd considered James hot, but what you did, had been exactly that. He could almost see you underneath the skin you were wearing, and he started wondering if he too would have fallen for you if you had been a boy. He might have. But then, what did that fucking mean? What would that mean for him? Did that make himâÂ
You gave him a small complicit smile in return, you didnât think Evan would recoil so easily, but it was certainly fun to be bigger and broader and to look stronger, it gave you a sort of power youâd never wielded before, and as strange as it might seem, you liked it. Seeing Evan back out after just a look, a look that you probably had thrown at him many times as yourself with no effect, had been interesting, to say the least. Regardless, the funniest part was the fact that you were taller than Sirius, and he looked adorable, even more like a puppy.Â
A grumpy, riled up, bathroom-cleaning puppy, but a puppy nonetheless. You wondered if being taller made him feel the same way when he looked at you; if the protective instinct instantly activated with a few inches of advantage to the other person. Not that you never felt the need to protect him in the past. You remembered the time at the park, how you had reacted, ready to take all the blame for him and how neither of the brothers had let you, but this was different. This version of you, the Potter version of you, wanted to hug and coddle him and tell him everything would be all right.Â
Either way, it could have just been some of Potterâs innate traits mixing with your own, since you had taken the potion, and it had changed you into him. You started wondering about the implications of Polyjuice too, what kind of things itâd actually do to your body. What about long exposure? If you were actually intermixing DNA with it, and altering not only the way you looked but also the way you thought? Then perhaps it could also change the way you felt, alter feelings and thoughts and give you some of those of the one you were impersonating.
You could probably talk to Lily about it, since she knew a lot about potions. Or perhaps Remus would be a better option since itâd be complicated to explain to her why you had used polyjuice, and how you had gotten your hands on it.Â
When you were done with the floor, and the stinky smell had died down just a little (or perhaps your nostrils had gotten used to it) you went on to wipe the mirrors and faucet, while the other boys focused on the urinals and the toilets. You saw Sirius gag a couple of times as he brushed over one of the toilets and almost wanted to help him, but the stinky smell coming from them persuaded you against it.Â
While you were cleaning some of the mirrors you realised the potion was starting to fade, so you had to pull out the flask and take a sip. Sirius had given you a wary look, but you just nodded in what you hoped was a reassuring manner and continued with your task. Sooner than later the three of you had finished, and Pebblier, the small elf who had been watching over you, snapped his fingers and disappeared, coming back just a few minutes later with McGonagall by his side.Â
She looked at the three of you, Evan was placing the bucket in its place, you were drying the mirror and Sirius had reclined against some of the mops. The witch examined the room in detail, the smell had gone away already, and she had even walked towards the stalls, looking through every single one. She seemed⌠impressed. As if she hadnât been expecting you three to do such a good job. Â
âGreat job boys,â she concluded, âyou may go clean up before dinner.âÂ
Dinner time? Already?Â
Sirius nodded and grabbed onto your arm to pull you out of the room. Once you were away from prying eyes he gave you a diverted look, âYou arenât that great at being James, you know?âÂ
You gasped, âI had everyone fooled.âÂ
âEvan didnât say a word,â he countered, âhe was terrified from the moment you thrĐľatened him.âÂ
You gave him a look and almost winced, âYou think I overdid it?âÂ
Sirius gave you a diverted smile, âYou called McGonagall Minnie.âÂ
âWell, you call her that all the time, I assumed James wouldâŚâ Sirius raised an eyebrow at you, and you didnât even finish your answer, James had never been as blasĂŠ as your boyfriend. As you continued walking through the halls you spotted a girl, who seemed to be looking at the two, specifically at Sirius, before she approached, standing right in front of you and blocking your path forward.Â
âHi!â She said shyly, pulling a strand of hair behind her ear and looking down for a moment before turning her face towards your boyfriend. You stared down at her, looking a little displeased, you assumed, from the way she gave you a wary look as if she wanted to retreat. She cleared her throat, âSirius.âÂ
The boy hummed in response, you noticed a group of girls giggling not so far away from her, and you stared back at the girl, intrigued by what she might do.Â
âIâm afraid I donât know your name,â your boyfriend said, a mix between polite and annoyed.Â
She made a displeased expression at that, âUgh⌠Iâm Zia, from 5th.â She really was looking at Sirius and completely ignoring you, or well, she was completely ignoring James. Which made you feel a little angry on his behalf too.
âRight, hello.â Sirius said, when the girl still didnât move he sighed, âIs there anything I can help you with?âÂ
âI⌠would you like to go to Hogsmeade with me?âÂ
You raised an eyebrow at that. You werenât surprised Sirius got girls asking him out all over the place, youâd seen his face, you understood, but you thought everyone knew about your relationship already.Â
âWhy?â He asked. You gave him a look. That had sounded uncharacteristically cold, and slightly rude.Â
âWh-why?â the girl stammered. âI was just thinking... maybe I couldâ like a date.âÂ
You werenât sure whether to be jealous or just feel sorry for the poor girl, she looked like a deer trapped in headlights, âSirius is already going out with someone,â you said, a little colder than you intended, to try and protect the girl from whatever cold thing Sirius might have told her instead.Â
But her reaction was something you werenât expecting, she snapped at you, fury in her eyes as if you had said something improper. âBut itâs just for now, isnât it? You arenât actually dating her,â she said, turning to Sirius.Â
Sirius rolled his eyes as if he was used to this, âEven if I wasnât. I wouldnât date someone whoâs trying to dig into and separate an already established relationship.âÂ
The girl was taken aback by his answer, even more so when Sirius skipped past her and continued his walk as if she had never even talked to him. You would have given her an apologetic smile if you hadnât been so flummoxed, but instead, you just chased after Sirius not bothering to give her a second glance. As if she had bothered to say âhiâ when she had gone straight after him.Â
âWell that was very⌠brazen of herâŚâ you said as you caught up with your boyfriend.
He sighed, leaning his head against your shoulder like he would if it were you and not James he was talking to. He enjoyed the height difference, actually. He didnât have to lean his head so much, it was nice. You, as a boy, were hot. His mind crossed over to Remus, how he was slightly taller than James and he wondered how it would feel to lean his head onto that boyâs shoulder. In a romantic way, not in a friendly one, he had to force the thought out of his head, he was not meant to be thinking of Remus that what, let alone with you âhis girlfriendâ standing next to him. What the hell would he do if you had legilimency? You, on the other side, seeing him all thoughtful, wondered if heâd care that the girls were still boring holes in his back, he probably wouldnât. âSorry you had to see that, Starshine.âÂ
You looked down at him with a diverted stare, âIt was rather rude on your part.âÂ
âIf I wasnât, sheâd think I was leading her on.âÂ
âYou were never rude to me.âÂ
He gave you a look, âWhy do you think that is, Starshine?â He asked with a flirty smile.Â
You almost blushed at that, you wanted to reach for his hand, but realised itâd be a bad idea to do it then, with Jamesâ face. You didnât know this, but Sirius might have actually liked it if you did, even if it would increase his mental issues with the thoughts of Remus heâd been having lately. Eventually, the two of you reached the common room, the boys let you use their bathroom to shower off the sweat and stank from the bathrooms since you still looked like James and you threw yourself in Siriusâ bed, already changed into a pair of pyjamas that were a little tight on James but would be oversized once you turned back.Â
âJames isnât back yet, is he?â you asked Remus, the only boy still in the room, since Sirius was in the bathroom and Peter was on his date.Â
Remus shook his head and you sighed, youâd be stuck there until Prongs came back or you looked like yourself again, neither of those things seemed to be happening soon enough, âItâs no fun to be James if Iâm locked up in his room,â you complained.Â
Remus gave you a look, raising an eyebrow at you as he pulled his head from the book he was reading. âYou thought it was fun?âÂ
âI mean, not the cleaning the bathroom part, but⌠You should have seen Evanâs face after I accidentally thrĐľatened him.âÂ
âHow do you accidentally thrĐľaten someone?â he asked, incredulous.
âYou give them a nasty look with the height and build of James Potter,â you told him. âI guess Iâd be more thrĐľatening if I were bigger, youâre lucky Iâm not as tall as any of you.âÂ
âSprite size,â he joked, and you scoffed at his silly little joke.Â
âEither way, it was also fun to be taller than Pads, makes him look a lot more cute and adorable, it was hard to hold myself back from stealing a kiss like I do all the time.âÂ
Remus huffed a laugh, âWould have started some interesting rumours.âÂ
âMhm,â you said, âMust be nice to be big and broad all the time though.âÂ
âNot when you bump your head onto door frames.âÂ
âWhat a drama queen Moony,â you teased.Â
âItâs never happened to you. You wouldnât know how inconvenient it is.âÂ
âWhat is inconvenient?â Sirius asked, walking out of the bathroom with just a simple towel around his middle. It was as if he thought you were actually James and not you. Either that or he purposefully wanted to fluster you.Â
âBeing tall, apparently,â you said, letting your gaze linger just a few seconds before turning your eyes back to Moony, who had been looking at Sirius casually. Although perhapsâŚ
âYou certainly wouldnât know, would you Starshine?âÂ
You turned back to him, your eyes shining with mischief, âCareful Puppy, Iâm still taller than you.â Â
âHmm⌠not for long,â he said before disappearing into the bathroom with some clothes in his hands. His shirt fell on the floor and you used your wand to drag it towards you, still sitting on the bed. Remus gave you a look but went back to his book, not saying a word. It was a shirt Andromeda had given him as a gift âa Queen shirtâ it was soft from how many times heâd used it, but in great condition still. Perhaps he used some kind of spell.Â
âHey Moons have you seen myâŚ?â he asked as he left the bathroom again, he had his pyjama pants on but he was still shirtless. You had his shirt in your hands, a smirk playing on your lips, or Jamesâ lips, you supposed. âStarshine.âÂ
You shrugged, âIt fell on the floor, didnât wanna leave it there.âÂ
He narrowed his eyes at you but walked towards his bed, where you sat. You were on the edge, whereas you normally just rested against his headboard, and most of all, you had a rather suspicious expression going on, an expression heâd seen you wear before, slightly different to Jamesâ. The second he skeeved in to take it between his hands, you stood and dodged, standing a few steps from him while holding the shirt high above your head.Â
âWhat do you think youâre doing?âÂ
âTaking advantage of the one time Iâll be taller than you, I suppose.â Remus was now looking at the two of you, diverted rather than paying attention to his book.Â
âMaybe you just want to see me shirtless for longer,â he teased.Â
You shrugged in response, âMaybe I do.â
His head pulled back, his cocksure stance faltering as he tried to process how brazen youâd been with that answer, itâs something he would have done. Regardless he got closer to try and pull the shirt. The difference in height between James and Sirius wasnât that big, especially not when you compared it to Remus, so you couldnât trust solely on the extra inches you had.Â
Sirius reached his hand up and tried to grab the shirt, and you pulled it just behind you, there was definitely a benefit with getting Jamesâ physical attributes, especially the speed.Â
âAw come on, thatâs not fair.âÂ
You just smiled, daringly. âCome on Puppy, you can do this, canât you?âÂ
âIâm gonna bite you next time Iâm Padfoot,â he thrĐľatened playfully.Â
âYouâd only be able to do it if I still looked like Potter,â you told him with a smile. âVixenâs too adorable to bite, am I not?âÂ
âMy shirt.âÂ
âWhat shirt?â you asked innocently as you threw it Remusâ way.
It fell on his head, and for a second you thought heâd be mad, since he didnât move, rather, it took him a few seconds to figure out why the shirt smelled so much like Sirius until he remembered heâd used the same shirt last night, and the previous. Fuck, it smelled delightful, focus Remus, he told himself as he took it from his head and held it between his hands.Â
He looked over at you, you gave him a smile, and winked at him, an expression so unbelievably yours it was almost shocking to see it on James, all thought there was something in your eyes.Â
Remus stood, as if he were to give the shirt to Sirius and your smile faded, he almost laughed but managed to hold a serious solemn face. Just as Sirius extended his hands to grab the shirt from Siriusâs hand, he pulled his arm up again, you smiled, diverted, while Sirius frowned.Â
Two against one, there you go Puppy, you thought. Remus, being a lot taller, managed to hold the shirt a lot higher, which forced Sirius to walk even closer to him as he jumped around to try and get the shirt. Remus was having way too much fun to actually process the fact that a shirtless Sirius was brushing onto him as he jumped to get the shirt.
âI could just wear something else, you know.âÂ
âYeah, but you wonât,â you said with a smile, you stood just behind him, blocking his hand whenever he tried to reach up for his shirt, still held high above Remusâ head.Â
âToo stubborn for that,â Remus confirmed, looking at you with a complicit grin.
Sirius huffed in response but tried again. Remus pulled back and you held Sirius between your arms, but he managed to slip from your grasp and lunged at Remus, who threw the shirt over his head and towards your arms, âGreat shot, Moony!â
He winked at you as Sirius crashed onto him, âOkay kids, thatâs enough!â Sirius said. Remus enjoyed the closeness a little too much.
âGiving up so soon, Puppy?â you asked with a pout, passing the shirt from one hand to the other.Â
âGivingâ Itâs completely unfair! Youâre both taller and stronger.âÂ
You hummed, âWelcome to my world.âÂ
âI wonât say youâre short ever again?â he tried, you pretended to think about it for a moment.Â
âWhat do you think, is he being honest?âÂ
âI donât know Little Witch⌠seems unrealistic.âÂ
You nodded in agreement. âAww, come onâŚâ Sirius complained, but then he lunged for you, you moved to the side, both of you moving almost in a circle. If anyone were to see the three of you from above, theyâd think you had carefully choreographed this dance.Â
âStarshineâŚâ He warned. You felt a bit of a tingling in your legs, but for some reason, you didnât think it was the nickname or his tone that caused it. Remus from behind, notice your ear shrinking. You were changing back.Â
You smiled âCome and get it!âÂ
He did, he skeeved forwards, you intended to crash against him, but Remus noticed you were counting on Jamesâ strength, rather than yours. If Sirius crashed onto you, the real you and not Polyjuice-potion James, then it would probably hurt you. So he grabbed onto your waist, or Jamesâ, everyone was confused at that point, and pulled you to the side.Â
Unfortunately, he tripped on a pair of shoes, and the two of you ended up falling towards the bed, not before Sirius grabbed onto the box plate of your shirt, and got pulled along with you. There was some thumping, and then complaining groans from the three.Â
Remusâ back had ended on the bed, you were on top of him, back facing his chest, and Sirius was on top of you, still half naked, and feeling a lot heavier than you expected him to be. You were quite literally sandwiched between the two boys, it was oddly comforting, even if a bit uncomfortable.Â
Remus frowned as your hair covered his face, you were back being you, and Sirius was crushing you against him, Siriusâ face dangerously close to his, it seemed like the longest time before the three of you managed to process what had happened. âStarshine youâre back!â Sirius said as he looked at you with a bright smile, taking the shirt from your hands, using his strength to keep your arms in your place as you tried to wriggle out.Â
He gave you a rather satisfied smile as you huffed, âNot fair.âÂ
âSuck it up,â Sirius replied as he finally rolled to the side. âCan you give her back her voice?âÂ
You sighed, catching your breath still against Remusâ shoulder until you too rolled off, landing right in between the two boys and slightly pushing on both so you had enough space to lay on your back. âCanât take me speaking like your best mate?âÂ
âItâs weird when you no longer look like him.âÂ
You shut your eyes, Remusâ bed was softer than Siriusâ, you noticed as you continued to accommodate in the small space between the two. Your shoulders were all pressed together, but neither of the boys seemed to want to move either. It was warm, it was comfortable.Â
Remus fetched his wand from the side with a display of wandless magic that would have been shocking had you been looking and passed it over you, âfinite incantatem,â he whispered.Â
âThanks,â you mumbled, your voice finally back to normal. You took a deep breath, thinking that youâd have to get up now and go back to your room, even if you didnât actually want to move. âWhat time is it?âÂ
Sirius lifted his head to look at the watch, âAlmost 8,â he informed, âwhy?âÂ
You shrugged, âI probably have to go back soon.âÂ
âYou donât sound so eager,â Remus acknowledged.
A playful scoff left your mouth, âWhat with two handsome boys by my side, who would?âÂ
Remus scoffed and Sirius rolled his eyes, âwhat a flirt.âÂ
âLearned from the best,â you said in return and then sighed dramatically. âI donât want to move, cleaning was so tiring!â you whined, Remusâ bed is comfortable, this was perfectly gracious.
âShould have let Prongs take the punishment,â Remus said.Â
You shook your head, âNo-uh, wouldnât want to kill his chance to date Lily and get married and have beautiful children.âÂ
âThatâs a very long story to make up in your head, Starshine.âÂ
âAs if James himself hadnât outwardly said that thatâs what he wants,â you responded with a shrug and changed the subject. âWhat were you reading Rem?â
âThe Godfather,â he said simply.Â
Sirius turned his head, âThe Mafia book you were telling us about on the train?â Remus nodded. âYou havenât finished it already?âÂ
He shook his head in response, âI was reading a book she borrowed,â he said, nodding towards you for a second.Â
âDorian Grey,â you acknowledged.Â
âDorian Grey?â Sirius asked, âItâs a muggle thing, isnât it?âÂ
âItâs a classic, Sirius.âÂ
âYouâd probably like it,â Remus added.Â
âOh no, he might end up like Dorian,â you joked, âLord Henry has some rather convincing dialogue.âÂ
âHeâs already like that.âÂ
âPair of nerds,â Sirius huffed, âBut I donât like being left out, so Iâll read it.âÂ
You shook your head with a smile on your face, âHowâs the mafia book?â
âInteresting,â Remus replied.Â
âWhy donât you read to us?â Sirius asked casually.Â
âWhat?â Remus asked, a little puzzled.Â
âOh yeah,â you said, turning your head towards him, âYou have a really nice voice, read to us,â he didnât look convinced. âPlease.âÂ
âOblige her Moony, she worked très hard cleaning the menâs loos today.âÂ
âYes,â you nodded. âSirius did as well⌠Oblige us, yeah?â Remus sighed dramatically but levitated the book right above him, you could see well enough to read by yourself but youâd much rather hear it from Remusâ soothing deep voice. In the end, he couldnât refuse. âDon Corleone stood up and put a fatherly arm around Johnny's shoulder.â You were smiling like an idiot, Sirius was too, both pretty satisfied with your convincing abilities.  âIâm going to make this man an offer he can't refuse,' he said, leading Johnny towards the door.â Remus was even making different voices for the characters, ââNow, go and enjoy yourself´ He kissed Johnny on the cheek, shut the door and turned to Tom Hagen, who had heard everythingâŚâ

Xiao Zhan: Learning to Live with Different Opinions
Original Article: https://mp.weixin.qq.com/s/kFwWw70e6UvJ75egnRe7BA This article is published by Blogger World ĺĺŽ˘ĺ¤Šä¸ Weixin. This is also part of the article published in Blogger World ăĺ厢夊ä¸ă2020 8th Issue.
Giving others the space and freedom to voice different opinions is also a form of respect. Accepting criticisms during growth, displaying kindness in adversity.
Eye of the Storm
Acting is a profession, once you become famous, you will be labelled as âa celebrityâ and you become a public figure, but in essence, you are still an average person. Just like everyone else during the pandemic period, they still need to stay quarantined at home and consider their daily meals.
âCelebrityâ Xiao Zhan, who has a huge fan following, was also at home catching up on the movies on his to-watch list, watching dramas, reading, practicing his culinary skills â his work was no longer as tightly scheduled as before. This was supposed to be a rare relaxation period, but because of the sudden internet controversy, he found himself landed in the midst of public outcry, and this shattered his initial peace.
At first, he was quite confused, although he understood that any public figure would come with some sense of controversy, but when some of the controversy affected his friends and family, he felt that these were unfair to them. This point was something he could not quite understand.
After the passage of time, he slowly calmed down, and he attempted to learn to live with these different opinions. He feels that giving others the space and freedom to voice different opinions is also a form of respect, and he will accept criticisms during growth, and display kindness in adversity.
After a problem appears, the best method is to resolve the problem, and not to create another problem. This problem will obviously inspire fans (of any idol) to reflect on their actions, and consider how to reasonably handle themselves as a fan. At the same time, artists will also consider how to handle their relationships with their fans, and their teams will need to be more precise in their work. Whereas to the general public, when viewing the whole incident rationally, this can be also considered to be a part of creating a healthy internet environment.
Chance
When some people consider Xiao Zhan as one of the core members of the controversial âtrafficâ celebrities (TN: Traffic is a term that is used in China to describe idols with a lot of fan following), and lambast him for it, it is necessary to view his journey rationally â understand his chance entry into the entertainment business, and his unique qualities that set him apart from the rest.
Born in 1991, Xiao Zhan is almost 30, but he actually had not been famous for more than a year. Before this, like many other youngsters, he went through high school, university and work life, and never thought that he would become an artist. His university was Chongqing Technology and Business University; he majored in graphic design; while schooling he had received titles such was âAdvanced Literary Individualâ and âExcellent Team Memberâ, and also participated in the charity poster design competition organized by his university, winning awards âFirst Standard Awardâ and âMost Popular Awardâ; he even started his own studio with his friends. As such, it can be said that he went through a complete university education, and hence he has a certain amount of knowledge literacy.
After graduating in 2014, he worked for almost a year in a design firm. In June of the second year, because he loved singing, he joined a variety show âX-Fireâăçç§ĺ§ĺ°ĺš´ă, in hopes of being seen by more people. This was not an easy part of his life â he had to learn dancing with zero foundation, stretching, memorizing movements, with great difficulty. Finally, he debuted as a member of the X-NINE Xçĺ°ĺš´ĺ˘ boyband.
That year, he was 25, and this fulfilled the lyrics of a song by Stefanie Sun â âThe 25 year old me, there are differences now.â Then, he thought 25 years old was far away, but in the end it was really different.
However, at that point in time, China talent search variety shows did not have the popularity it would have later on, hence he was not popular upon debut â there was a period of dormancy. In the years following that, he switched paths to become an actor, and participated in web dramas, television dramas, as well as a minor role in the movie âMonster Huntâ ăćĺŚčŽ°ă, totaling a number of 7 to 8 shows. Because he did not come from an acting background, he felt inferior to his partners, who graduated from acting schools, during the shoots. During this period of time, he also doubted his decisions, and wondered if he had a future.
Later on, in the interview with Ren Min Wang äşşć°ç˝ âFriendly Chatâ ăĺčă he said, âIf initially I knew that I would later on go through so much things, I might retreat.â This is actually very similar with the encounters of many other actors, from low to high, from silent to outstanding, experience, works and reputation all have to go through an accumulation process.
At that time, he already had fans, although not too many. In his Weibo, he once had a post that was meant to communicate with his fans, named âSecret Gardenâ, to tell one another stories, encourage and comfort one another â it was a type of positive interaction.
Fame
The true fame came on the June of 2019. The web drama âThe Untamedâ, where he starred as the leading actor, aired. This drama came with a fan following from the novel it was based on, and with exquisite production quality, good acting portrayal and performance, this drama became the hottest drama of that year. It scored 7.7 in Douban (TN: Somewhat like China IMDB), which was considered above average in China, and it is worthy as a piece of âworkâ â although Xiao Zhan said in this interview, âCurrently, I donât think I have any piece of noteworthy work, hence I cherish every opportunity to participate in creative work.â
From this, he obtained a huge reputation, his fan size grew multi-fold, and this objectively created more difficulties for his team working behind him. From a commoner to an artist, and then to a celebrity, based on Xiao Zhanâs behavior, he is careful and cautious. When interviewed by China Youth Papers ăä¸ĺ˝éĺš´ćĽă, he said âWhen I encounter difficulties, I will not give up easily, I will think of ways to resolve itâ; âRespect everyone around me, I have to uphold the heart to honor and respect everyone around me.â When interviewed by Guang Ming Timesăĺ
ććĽćĽă, he hoped âthe works that he participated in could transmit some positive values.â
At the end of last year, in CCTV Movie Channel, he also reviewed his legendary experience of 2019, âThere are no adjectives to describe my 2019, hence I will say thank you, thank you to all the experiences, to all that I have.â He never talks about what role he is most satisfied with, but only that he could do better, âmaybe it could be the next oneâ. At the same time, he expressed that he will put the focus of his career in 2020 on acting, âto an actor, works are my foundation.â This clearly shows that he is clear about his own acting career.
But evidently, the start of this year was not smooth sailing for him. This internet controversy, as a related party, he received numerous criticisms, whether with good or bad intentions, and how he viewed this whole incident, what psychological process he went through, how a public figure should bear the social responsibility, and what his next steps areâŚ
For this, the aim of this Blogger World interview with Xiao Zhan is to âunderstand the problem, obtain a common understandingâ.
Understood Some Things
(TN: R = Reporter, XZ = Xiao Zhan)
R: Earlier when the pandemic was at its peak, what were you busy with?
XZ: Quarantine, just like everyone else during the pandemic period. I remember it was during Chinese New Year period, following the news, seeing the medical personnel fighting at the forefront. It was especially touching when you see that they were relentlessly fighting even though they were facing a lack of medical supplies. At that time, I spoke with my staff, thought about wanting to do something, and do what I can. After the discussion to decide what to donate, we started contacting the relevant suitable organizations, communicate on what was needed, etc.
Besides this, I also received invitations to record ID videos to cheer on Wuhan and songs to beat back the pandemic. Because the songs required more professional equipment, hence I remember around the end of January, we went to the recording studio. At that time, the pandemic was at its critical period, to ensure safety, there were very limited staff on site, everyone were wearing masks, everything was strictly disinfected, every staff had to perform multiple roles, but we finished the recording with high efficiency. To me, this was a very special experience. Other then that, I was quarantined at home.
R: When you were at home, how was your daily life? How did you spend the time?
XZ: Actually just like everyone else, watch the news, watch dramas, watch movies, read books and rest. It is also quite inconvenient to order takeouts during quarantine period, hence I also trained my culinary skills. Just right at the time there were charity events to aid the farmers, hence I bought some fruits and farm products.
R: Were you concerned with the daily changes of the pandemic, what did you feel and think about?
XZ: Of course I did, I was following up on the pandemic news everyday, there were many moments that touched me. Previously there was this piece of news, a pair of husband and wife, there were both medical staff at the forefront, recognized each other despite wearing isolation robes and hugged together, that scene of reunion touched me very much. But at the same time, I saw that there were a lot more people who needed assistance, and I also felt personally that what one person can do is very limited, and I did too little.
R: When the internet controversy happened, what were you doing, what was your initial reaction, and what happened after?
XZ: I was quarantined at home at that time, when I first saw it I was extremely surprised, why there were suddenly so much topics, felt a bit confused, and understood it later like everyone else. Actually with regards to controversy, as a public figure, I was willing to bear these controversy, but some of them affected my friends and family, I felt that these were unfair to them. I could not quite understand (why they did this). And that point in time was the most critical period of the pandemic, I did not want my issues to take away too much attention, and bother everyone, hence I did not make much responses. Later on, my friends also gave me advice, and this period gave me more time to ponder over it, I also went out to do voice overs, in preparation for my future jobs, slowly I understood some things, so after a while, I started to slowly calm down.
R: You once said that in order to survive in society, one needs to learn to be complex, do you realize the complexity even more so now? Where there any changes to your life views?
XZ: There is definitely complexity, I do not think this is anything bad. Facing complex situations, we do not have the ability to force any changes, but I feel, as long as we maintain the most initial kindness and purity, work hard to do the best for the things we have decided. I have always upheld these principles, and these are also what I want to do.
R: Do you feel misunderstood? How do you adjust yourself?
XZ: It is still the same phrase from the previous interview, âWhen serious â work, when confused â read, when alone â think, when upset â sleep.â Actually I think this phrase can be used to aptly describe my condition for the past few months.
R: After a period of time, how do you feel about the controversy now?
XZ: We need to learn to live with different opinions, and also respect everyoneâs rights to voice theirs. But this world is like this, there is a balance of energy, there are those who love you, who like you, at the the same time there will be people who hates you, who dislikes you. Giving others the space and freedom to voice different opinions is also a form of respect. Accepting criticisms during growth, displaying kindness in adversity.
No one likes you for no reason
R: We will talk about your experiences as an artist, when did you realize that you are famous? How did you feel?
XZ: Last summer, after seeing that there were more people who supported and liked me, very thankful and grateful. My father told me since young âno one likes you for no reasonâ, hence I hope I can live up to everyoneâs like.
R: When you first entered the entertainment business, what goal did you hope to attain?
XZ: Actually my thoughts were very simple then, that is work hard to do the best in the competition, and hope to receive more recognition.
R: In being an artist, what did you feel is the most toilsome?
XZ: Every profession has its own toils, I treat my work very seriously, hardship is actually something you cannot avoid. If I really have to say something as toilsome, then it will be how I face the complex environment.
R: Many felt that you became famous overnight, but actually you already participated in several different dramas, how was your condition like then? What desires did you have for the future?
XZ: Actually there were not much difference, previously I just hoped that I always have jobs, have the opportunity to contact better roles, now is just work seriously, act properly, live everyday to the fullest. Continue on the path of an actor.
R: How did you learn performance? Where there any experience that was especially memorable?
XZ: At the start, I had no concept with regards to performance, later on I also took performance classes, with directions from performance teachers. The experience that was especially memorable was during the shooting of âThe Wolfâ, there was a crying scene on the highlands, a night scene, and it needed to rain, but that time, no matter what I did, I could not cry.
R: What do you think the relationship of front stage and back stage is?
XZ: I feel that front stage and back stage is not a type of relationship, but is the same job. Without the serious work and support of the backstage, the front stage will not be able to become better.
R: The character Wei Wuxian gave you a lot of glory as well as some controversy, how did you view the role?
XZ: I treat every role I have acted in seriously and with deep respect, because their story are all alternate lives that I would never experience. And portraying these characters, I really hoped that we can achieve success mutually, and win the recognition and love from the audience. I am lucky and thankful to have participated in a part of Wei Wuxianâs life, and this role also became an important part of my acting career. Also I am very grateful to the hard work from all the staff as part of this creative work, and gifted this character vitality. All these creative artists gave me the chance, and allowed me as an actor, using my own thoughts and performances, to bring forth the character Wei Wuxian, even more vividly in front of the general audiences.
R: With regards to âworkâ, how do you define it?
XZ: I feel that a piece of work is not just the result of a personâs hard work, behind it are also everyoneâs sacrifices and creation. Currently, I donât think I have any piece of noteworthy work, hence I cherish every opportunity to participate in creative work, and also treat every job seriously, in the future I will do my best in singing and acting.
R: The journey of fame, how did you establish your confidence, from inexperience to mature?
XZ: It is definitely a slow process. Actually it is just like that lyric in my new song âAll traces passed by turned into light spots.â That is when you encounter difficulties, from it you learn and grow, the accumulation of every step, you are always on the path of growing.
R: In facing the exhaustion from work, the disturbances from the outside world, do you feel that fame is a double edged sword? How do you hope to be viewed by the outside world?
XZ: I feel that anything has its pros and cons, I have already learnt to handle it with common sense, I hope that I am still the same initial me, to be able to maintain humility and politeness.
R: Are you afraid of the uncertainty of life? Do you have insecurities?
XZ: Of course I am. Life is made up of a lot of uncertainties, many times I would also feel insecure, but isnât the unknown lifeâs greatest challenge? The feeling of âsinging as you walkâ is great.
Be yourself, actions speak louder than words
R: You once said in an interview that you do not want to be a perfect person, can you explain what you meant?
XZ: I feel that no one can be perfect, neither can I.
R: Actor, artist and traffic celebrity, what do you think the difference are in these terms?
XZ: Actor is my career, artist and traffic celebrity, to me, are just a label, that is on every public figure. I will do the best for my job, in the future I will be even more serious in my singing, acting, and continue to bear whatever social responsibility I should bear.
R: You once said that communication is very important, now that you are too famous, will this bring about difficulties in communication?
XZ: The changes in my identity definitely brought along some inconveniences, but to my friends, my family and me, the communication has always remained the same. In facing those who like me and support me, I feel that I am communicating with them via my works, hence I will humbly accept all good intent criticisms and corrections on my profession.
R: You did not change your Weibo account after your debut, and also said that that you are very real, and you want to show everyone the real you. To the public who do not understand you, what do you have to say?
XZ: I always said, I am not a perfect person, but that does not prevent me from working hard towards becoming a better person. I am a more direct person, I also wanted to present the real me to everyone, hence I never considered changing my Weibo account, those were all my experiences and memories, the testament to my growth. I will not use youth or commoner as an excuse.
I started using Weibo when I was 19 or 20 years old, when I was still young and a commoner, and I said some very inappropriate words or opinions that are unacceptable now, and it probably did cause trouble or hurt to others. Hence I also wanted to say, after reflecting, to those who were hurt by these opinions, I express my most sincere apologies. If I could use my current experience and sensibleness back then, I would definitely respect everyoneâs effort in their work, and will not comment rashly.
R: Your Weibo used to be very lively, full of witty words, you also liked to snatch the top comment on your own posts, and interacted with your fans, but later on, these posts were generally non existent, almost as if your image became flat, how do you feel?
XZ: Just representing myself only, I feel that the image on social media cannot encompass an entire person, that is only an outlet. I am always willing to communicate with everyone, but I am also afraid to bother others, if the effect of bother becomes greater than sharing, that would be something that I very much would not want to see.

StackedNatural Day 48: 8x06, 15x04
StackedNatural Masterpost: [x]
November 7, 2021
8x06: Southern Comfort
Written by: Adam Glass
Directed by: Tim Andrew
Original air date: November 7, 2012
Plot Synopsis:
Sam and Dean team up with Garth, who has taken over Bobby's job, as they hunt down a Specter that's possessing innocent people who have a grudge against someone.
Features:
Garth is the new Bobby, murders over old wrongs, more Amelia flashbacks, Dean tries to kill Sam, Garthâs chill nature saves the day.
My Thoughts:
Garth my beloved! Garth is the most emotionally intelligent character in this entire show, not to mention the fact that heâs the best (only?) example of non-toxic masculinity. Iâm a bit obsessed with how when he was introduced it was because they wanted to make fun of a guy who wasnât a manly man and by the end of the series he and Cas are the only good dads and heâs got the life that Dean unironically wants for himself. Also, Garth is a better hunter because he hunts solo and he isnât dead yet, and he has the lore knowledge to take over for Bobby.
Paralleling Amelia and Benny is so funny. How are we supposed to think of Benny if not as Deanâs dirty little secret Purgatory hookup? WHY ELSE WOULD THEY NAME THIS EPISODE SOUTHERN COMFORT?
I love when Sam has to interrogate milfs, and also love that the Amelia scene after they had sex comes right after so at first it looks like Sam hooked up with the milf. Also, he was kind of into her, or else visiting her wouldnât have triggered an Amelia memory specifically of sex. Insane show for insane people.
The funniest thing to ever happen on this show is Dean smugly saying âwe wonâ as he burns the bones of a confederate soldier.
Notable Lines:
âBobby was gone. You two were MIA. It was a weird time. Somebody had to step in and take up the slack.â
âWhat's up with all the, uh, hillbilly hankies? These people know the Civil War's over, right?â
âBobby belonged to all of us, Dean â not just you and Sam. Now, I'm just taking what he showed me and trying to do something with it. That's all!â
âIt just seems like you and Dean are talking but nobody's listening to each other.â
âBenny has been more of a brother to me this past year than you've ever been! That's right. Cas let me down. You let me down. The only person that hasn't let me down is Benny.â
Lauraâs (completely subjective) Episode Rating: 7.7
IMdB Rating: 8.0
15x04: Atomic Monsters
Written by: Davy Perez
Directed by: Jensen Ackles
Original air date: November 7, 2019
Plot Synopsis:
Sam and Dean investigate the mysterious death of a girl and the disappearance of another.
Features:
Samâs nightmares, killed and kidnapped cheerleaders, parental protection, Chuck visits Becky, Godâs shitty ending to his story.
My Thoughts:
It is so funny to watch an episode that is objectively very good but spending the entire time being SO mad about what it sets up and fails to follow through on. Like WHAT is going on here? Did Dabb and Singer even read this script before it went to production? What on earth did Davy say to get them to film those Chuck scenes?
Truly Davy Perez has our backs in this script so hard. He says actually the fans are not cringey, theyâre creative and intelligent. Actually the leviathans were a stupid looking monster. Actually, the ending of this 15 year show should have been so much better. God, and by extension the writers, is a pathetic ex-boyfriend with nothing to offer.
The problem with season 15 is that it is so good right up until those last two episodes, and then it veers so hard off the road after Despair that it might as well be a different show entirely. I am SUCH a strong Chuck-won-truther and this episode is one of the strongest pieces of evidence for it.
I think Jackles did a great job directing this episode too, aside from the weird jumpy zoom in and outs that I have to imagine were partially the fault of the editors. The whole opening scene is really great, especially the bold lighting and extended fight sequences. I have to respect the man saying âIâm directing this scene and I am going to make myself look so hot that it will be unbearableâ. And then the Jack parallels with Billy - he literally dies on his knees in the same position Jack was in during the season 14 finale.
Notable Lines:
âItâs feeling a little⌠thin? Low stakes? Itâs fun to hear the boysâ voices, but a story is only as good as its villain, and these villains are just not feeling very⌠dangerous? Not to mention, thereâs no classic rock. No one even mentions Cas. The climax is a little stale. Boys tied up again while we get the villainâs monologue, which, frankly, isnât one of your best.â
âYou donât have children, do you? Because if you did, you would know, that to see your child in pain rips your heart out. And youâd know that youâd do anything. Youâd die for them.â âOr kill for them.â
âItâs awful! Horrible. Itâs hopeless. You canât do this to the fans. What you did to Dean? What you did to Sam?â
Lauraâs (completely subjective) Episode Rating: 9.3
IMdB Rating: 8.5
In Conclusion: Stacked says that Benny was an important part of Deanâs life and we need to acknowledge that.

âThe Only Real Exceptionâ
After writing about the education-polarization thesis and the future of Europe and Asia, I was curious: Has Japan polarized? One of Thomas Pikettyâs students studied the question. They came to a surprising answer.
As Western Europe and North America have become increasingly polarized around education and income, Japan has actually depolarized.
Western Europe and Japan started in different places. In Western Europe, the educated classes traditionally supported parties of the right. In postwar Japan, they supported parties of the left. They moved in different directions. In Western Europe, the educated moved left. In Japan, they moved right.
From Amory Gethin, âCleavage structures and distributive politicsâ:Â
7.6 The end of âcultural politicsâ
One of the other specificities of Japanese electoral behaviour is the fact that higher educated individuals have continuously supported left-wing parties, especially during the twenty years following the end of World War II. The historical strength of education levels in predicting party choice in Japan is well-known: it reflects the freezing of the party system which had emerged in the context of the âcultural politicsâ of the 1950s (Watanuki, 1991).
Even when controlling for the significant improvements in citizensâ education levels since the 1960s, this pattern has persisted for most of the second half of the twentieth century. In the 1960s, 65% of the 20% least educated voters supported the Liberal Democratic Party, against 41% of voters belonging to the top education decile (figure 7.3c). During recent years, however, these differences have decreased considerably, and popular vote for the LDP has oscillated between 40% and 45% for all education groups in 2009-2014. Looking more closely at intellectual elites confirms this evolution (figure 7.3d). In 1963-1967, top 10% educated voters were indeed less likely to support the LDP by about 15 percentage points (8 percentage points after controls). This figure remained broadly stable, staying between 5 and 10 percentage points during the 1963-1996 period. Starting in 2009, however, education lost significance, even when including controls. The decline of the Social Democratic Party during the 1990s and its replacement by the Democratic Party of Japan â which culminated by its victory in 2009 â therefore seems to coincide with the disappearance of what was one of the most fundamental political divisions of Japanese society. The fact that this dealignment was sudden and occurred at the same time as shifts in the structure of party politics suggests that this process is driven by top-down mechanisms rather than long-run evolutions in collective beliefs.Â
7.7 From a multiple elites party system to political indifferentiation?Â
Bringing these two dynamics together points to a trend which is the exact opposite of the one observed in most Western countries (figure 7.4). In the 1960s, intellectual and economic elites were clearly separated into two different groups. On the left of the political spectrum, university graduates were highly supportive of the Japanese Communist Party and the Japanese Socialist Party, who based their appeal more on liberal values than on class antagonisms. Meanwhile, the Liberal Democratic Party attracted both low income earners and business elites. Through its defense of organized capitalism, it created strong ties with top executives and industrial leaders who participated in developing Japanâs growth model. This structure of political competition suddenly ended in 2009, when the LDP was defeated for the first time.Â
While these figures suggest that Japan was originally a perfect example of a multiple elites party system, this characterisation should not be over-emphasised. Persistently strong levels of support for the party among low income earners demonstrates that the LDP has never favoured exclusively economic elites. As was highlighted above, part of its remarkable hegemony came from its ability to distribute equally the fruits of the countryâs long periods of growth. The non-linearity of the relationship between income and electoral behaviour is, to some extent, an interesting representation of the Japanese social compromise, which came with its dominant-party system.Â
Piketty describes Japan as the exception to the education-polarization rule. From Capital and Ideology:
The only real exception to this general evolution of the structure of political cleavages within the electoral democracies of developed countries seems to concern Japan, which has never really experienced a party system of classist type comparable to those observed in European countries and Westerners during the post-war period. The Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) has been in power almost permanently in Japan since 1945. Historically, this almost hegemonic conservative party has achieved its best scores in the rural and agricultural world and among the urban bourgeoisie. The LDP thus succeeded in synthesizing between the economic and industrial elites and traditional Japan, around a project of reconstruction of the country, in a complex context marked by the American occupation and an anticommunism exacerbated by the Russian-Chinese proximity. Conversely, the Democratic Party (main opposition party) has generally achieved its best scores among modest and average urban employees and among the most highly qualified, who are willing to protest against the presence of the United States and the new moral and social order embodied by the LDP, but without succeeding in sustainably gathering an alternative majority8. More generally, the specific structure of the political conflict in Japan must be linked to the particular form taken by Japanese cleavages around nationalism and traditional values9.
8. See A. GETHIN, Cleavages Structures and Distributive Politics, op. cit., p. 89-100. See also K. MORI MCELWAIN, ÂŤ Party System Institutionalization in Japan Âť, in A. HICKEN, E. MARTINEZ KUHONTA, Party System Institutionalization in Asia, Cambridge University Press, 2015, p. 74-107.
9. In The Game of the Century [The Silent Cry] (1967), KenzaburĂ´ ĂĂŠ magnificently evokes the complexity and the violence of the relations between the intellectual elites and the popular classes in Japan, in particular around the urban-rural divide, traditional values and the question of the modernization of the country since the beginning of the Meiji era (1868), without forgetting the role played by the geopolitical positioning of the archipelago, the relationship with the United States and the antagonisms aroused by the presence of Korean workers.
Perhaps Japan was a precociously modern society in the 1960s, with an educated left and a uneducated right. Or perhaps it was a âpost-colonialâ society, with a self-consciously anti-imperialist left.Â
The Japanese experience of the 1960s can certainly sound precociously modern. In Haruki Murakamiâs Norwegian Wood (1987), one working class student was put off by the 1960s educated left:
"You know, when I went to university I joined a folk-music club. I just wanted to sing songs. But the members were a load of frauds. I get goose-bumps just thinking about them. The first thing they tell you when you enter the club is you have to read Marx. âRead page so-and-so to such-and-such for next time.â Somebody gave a lecture on how folk songs have to be deeply involved with society and the radical movement. So, what the hell, I went home and tried as hard as I could to read it, but I didn't understand a thing. It was worse than the subjunctive. I gave up after three pages. So I went to the next week's meeting like a good little scout and said I had read it, but I couldn't understand it. From that point on they treated me like an idiot.
âI had no critical awareness of the class struggle, they said, I was a social cripple. I mean, this was serious. And all because I said I couldn't understand a piece of writing. Don't you think they were terrible?"
"Uh-huh," I said.
"And their so-called discussions were terrible, too. Everybody would use big words and pretend they knew what was going on. But I would ask questions whenever I didn't understand something. "What is this imperialist exploitation stuff you're talking about? Is it connected somehow to the East India Company?' "Does smashing the educational-industrial complex mean we're not supposed to work for a company after we graduate?' And stuff like that. But nobody was willing to explain anything to me. Far from it -- they got really angry.
âCan you believe it?"
"Yeah, I can," I said.
"One guy yelled at me, "You stupid bitch, how do you live like that with nothing in your brain?' Well, that did it. I wasn't going to put up with that. OK, so I'm not so smart. I'm working class. But it's the working class that keeps the world running, and it's the working classes that get exploited. What kind of revolution is it that just throws out big words that working-class people can't understand? What kind of crap social revolution is that? I mean, I'd like to make the world a better place, too. If somebody's really being exploited, we've got to put a stop to it. That's what I believe, and that's why I ask questions.
âAm I right, or what?"
"You're right."
"So that's when it hit me. These guys are fakes. All they've got on their minds is impressing the new girls with the big words they're so proud of, while sticking their hands up their skirts. And when they graduate, they cut their hair short and march off to work for Mitsubishi or IBM or Fuji Bank. They marry pretty wives who've never read Marx and have kids they give fancy new names to that are enough to make you puke. Smash what educational-industrial complex? Don't make me laugh! And the new members were just as bad. They didn't understand a thing either, but they pretended to and they were laughing at me. After the meeting, they told me, "Don't be silly! So what if you don't understand? Just agree with everything they say.'"
[...]Â Â
"So then what happened with your club?"
"I left in June, I was so furious," Midori said. "Most of these student types are total frauds. They're scared to death somebody's gonna find out they don't know something. They all read the same books and they all spout the same slogans, and they love listening to John Coltrane and seeing Pasolini movies. You call that "revolution?"'
"Hey, don't ask me, I've never actually seen a revolution."
"Well, if that's revolution, you can stick it. They'd probably shoot me for putting umeboshi in my rice balls. They'd shoot you, too, for understanding the subjunctive."
"It could happen."
"Believe me, I know what I'm talking about. I'm working class.â
But those dynamics changed. Today, Japan is about as polarized by education as France and the United States were in the 1970s and the United Kingdom was in the 1990s: the more educated and the less educated vote the same way.Â
I am still interested in whether Japan has depolarized at the level of opinion and policy. Under Shinzo Abe, the country has liberalized. It has more immigration and more women in the workforce. Perhaps that reflects the preferences of an increasingly educated population.
But it might be something else. The Liberal Democrats have a freedom of action that parties in competitive systems do not enjoy. In the United States, Democrats and Republicans must respond to changing preferences. In Japan, the Liberal Democrats can, more often than not, ignore them.
Perhaps Abe simply decided that cultural conservatism is not a winning program. But perhaps the country is changing beneath his feet.Â

Frozen 2: Movie Review
Tonight, on this lovely November 23rd, 2019 evening, I got my turn to see Frozen 2, with my friend Brianna. The movie started at 6:00 pm and I was a bit surprised to see that the theater wasnât jam packed with people, but considering it was later in the day, I figured that most people had taken their children, (or just gone themselves) much earlier. There were a lot of previews, and holy moly did they go on forever. But at last, the theater went dark, and with my popcorn almost gone, the film began.
Animation
I thought I might start in the area that really caught my attention first. The animation was crisp, clear, and lovely, everything flowed smoothly. I didnât see anything that looked âout of the ordinary.â The colors meshed together well, and the Enchanted Forest, and Atohallan was beautiful. The characters faces; you could tell theyâve grown a bit older, especially with the new outfits and hair and all, and you can see all the little details, which I found impressive. Animation takes a lot of time and patience. I miss 2D hand-drawn so much.
Animation rating: 10/10
Music
The soundtrack to me was alright, I feel like I definitely liked the first filmâs soundtrack better. Into The Unknown was beautiful, and The Next Right Thing was heartbreaking. I guess Lost In The Woods and When I Am Older were alright, but to me, they felt a bit âunnecessary?â And the songs they kind of hit you one after another like bricks to the face. Part of me was thinking, âwow, this is one song after another!â I know Frozen IS a musical, but I feel like they could have toned it down a bit with how frequent the songs were between each scene. I REALLY enjoyed Vuelie in the film though. Itâs such a beautiful piece, and I thought the variations that played throughout the sequel, and the Northuldra tribe singing it was amazing. Iâm glad the soundtrack came through in terms of this musical piece. Another I noticed too was the choice of musical instruments. I believe what sounded like some type of flute when they arrived at the mist, and the Lost In The Woods song with that electric guitar in the very beginning, which I thought was ânewâ and kind of unexpected if that makes any sense.
Soundtrack rating: 7.7/10
Plot
Alright, now hereâs where all of you are probably going to rip into me. The storyline was...just there. And rushed. Everything moved fast and seemed just kind of âthrown inâ. It starts off with Adgar telling little Elsa and Anna about the enchanted forest and why no one can get in or out and that flows fine, but once we get to present day everything kind of feels like it was played in fast forward and skipped some things. One minute were at the Fall Festival, then were at the Charades scene, next Elsaâs hearing voices and awakens the spirits, then suddenly the gangâs in a sled in their new outfits and arriving at the mist. Woah, woah, woah! Why so sudden and soon with everything? It all happens so quick, and why do they not show them getting dressed in their new outfits? I mean, I was thinking there would at least be a scene of them walking out from behind the wardrobe or closet and all commenting on each otherâs new outfits. Even Kristoffâs first attempt at the proposal which I found funny seemed like a quick two-second thing. And I caught the âadultâ joke in the film; Anna looks at Kristoff and with a suggestive smirk on her face, asks him what heâd like to do.
Now, for all you people who think dirty-minded from time to time like I do, if Anna was perhaps suggesting that Kristoff âfondleâ her while Elsa and Olaf are in the back sleeping, then thatâs a bit messed up, and Iâm sure Sven doesnât want to witness that either. Anyways...from there on, meeting the Northuldra people was nice, but even there, the characters we met, I felt like we should have been given more time to learn and understand them. With characters such as Honeymaren and Ryder it felt like they barely had their place and the snippets and teasers we got before and hyped them up a bit more than what they were actually shown. I also thought that perhaps a âbit moreâ would happen in between before the gang actually arrives at the Enchanted Forest. I thought Elsa using her ice powers to conjure up the memories was pretty sweet, and the scene with them discovering their parents ship and learning the truth was emotional at its best, next to The Next Right Thing scene. I did find Kristoff still trying to propose to Anna funny, despite the circumstances that were before them. The battle with the Nokk was quick and seemed a bit lack-luster. I was kind of expecting a longer battle, but it felt like Elsa tamed him too quickly and when Elsa created reins to throw on him heâs all like âKay.â And Elsa rides off on him and they are best friends already. Again Atohallan was beautiful and while I was not expecting Elsa to âdieâ via freezing I knew something would happen to her. Also, not gonna lie, I wasnât expecting that King Runeard twist, so some points go there. Elsa becomes the fifth spirit and is re-born the true Snow Queen, Anna lures the Jotnarr to the dam to break it, the spirits release everyone, Elsa stops the tidal flood from hitting Arendelle, and Anna and Elsa re-unite, at least for a little bit, because guess what? Elsaâs staying in the Enchanted Forest, alone and free, away from her beloved sister, while Anna and Kristoff become queen and king. *sigh* This ainât it. Iâm sorry but six years to work on this and 50 re-writes yet this is what happens at the end of this fast-paces story? A separation? Isnât that kind of going against what the first film was about?
Overall, I would say the plot isnât terrible terrible but it definitely lacks that umph factor the first movie had. It moved way too fast and at times just seemed very thrown together. And anyway, this sequel was supposed to be a totally different story than what we got now, but it got changed because certain writers listened to the wrong people and Ima just leave it at that. For those that know where I stand within the fandom and have browsed through my blog and/or follow me know exactly what I mean, and feel the same way I do.
Plot rating: 6/10
Characters
I enjoy how Elsa, Anna, Elsa, Olaf, Kristoff, and Sven have grown up physically and changed their appearances and such, but one thing that bothers me is that Elsa and Kristoff still donât seem to interact that much, and at times to me act like they donât give two flying monkeys about each other. So at the end when Kristoff runs up to Elsa and hugs her tight, I kind of half-went âOh so he does care?â Anna is definitely different than how she was in the first film, but she is still a bit anxious and takes things out of context, like I can sometimes. For a second when Kristoff was in the sled and the woods trying to propose to her again and Anna started freaking out wondering if something bad was going to happen to them or Elsa I thought, âOkay, who peeked inside my brain and stole a bit of my personality?â Lol. Elsa is beautiful as always, inside and out, and so is Anna, but I loved Elsaâs sass in the beginning of the Into The Unknown scene. Olaf is still funny, perhaps maybe a tad bit more annoying, but maybe itâs just me. And Sven was well, Sven. Again, I wish we could learn a bit more about Mattias, Yelena, Honeymaren, Ryder. They all just seemed âthere.â Hopefully if thereâs more Frozen stuff coming or even a potential third film in the coming decade of the 2020â˛s, there will be exploration and interaction with these characters, and even some adventures with the Northuldra tribe. (Now Iâm imagining a spin-off series with Honeymaren and Ryder, brother-sister adventures.)
Character rating: 7.8/10
Final Take
The film just felt...off. It almost felt the equivalent of waking up on the day a project is due for class and you bust the whole thing out in 2 hours before you got to go. You did what you were supposed to do, but the teacher can tell you waited until the last minute, and he/she grades it just like that. Again, I know other people in the fandom are probably going to rip into me, but this is honestly how everything came off to me. Everyone likes and does not like certain things, everybody interprets things in life differently, and for me, I like the first film better. It also hits home a little more personally for me too, because of the message it sends out, which also can be interpreted in many different ways too. After a long time of waiting and being excited since the first news of a Frozen sequel came out only to just feel some type of way once the whole is done and over with after all the hype is mildly depressing and infuriating; especially since the sequel was supposed to be something different than what it is now, and again, Ima leave it at that.Â
If whether youâre a person who stands or does not stand where I stand within the fandom and know what Iâm getting at, I still encourage you to remain civil and please do not send any angry messages to the creators or anybody else, itâs not the polite or mature thing to do. Having an opinion doesnât justify rude responses, because at the end of the day, we all have our own feelings. Iâm not going to hate you if enjoyed Frozen 2 100% but I will hate any troll messages that anybody might send because I didnât rate this film the rating you wanted. Alas, I do hope thereâs more Frozen in the future to come, for all of us to enjoy together.Â

Jewish wedding. Research.
Wedding for any religious Jew is almost the central event of life. In Jewish culture, the family is the cornerstone of Jewry, and the wedding is the biggest celebration.
The very first stage of a traditional Jewish marriage, is the Shidduch, or matchmaking. This means that the process of finding a partner is not haphazard or based on purely external aspects. Rather, a close friend or relative of the young man or woman, who knows someone that they feel may be a compatible partner, suggests that they meet. The purpose of the meeting is for the prospective bride and groom to determine if they are indeed compatible.
But most often used is the appeal to special matchmakers. They must be subtle enough psychologists in order to correctly combine young people and create a strong married couple. Potential bride and groom initially go on dates (usually a few, about 3 or 4) in cafes and parks. It is believed that going to the cinema, for example, is a very bad idea - for these dates, young people should discuss their views on life, wishes for each other, family life and other nuances of living together. In addition, they will have a whole life to âlook one wayâ, so at these meetings they better look at each other. Despite the fact that divorces in Jewish culture have existed since ancient times, a strong family "for all lifeâ is still considered the best option.
Some families sign a contract, the tenaim, meaning "conditions," that delineates the obligations of each side regarding the wedding and a final date for the wedding. Others do this at the wedding reception an hour or so before the marriage. This contract is ordained by Mishnaic law (circa 170 CE) and according to some authorities dates back to Biblical times. The Ketuvah, written in Aramaic, details the husband's obligations to his wife: food, clothing, dwelling and pleasure. It also creates a lien on all his property to pay her a sum of money and support should he divorce her, or predecease her. The document is signed by the groom and witnessed by two people, and has the standing of a legally binding agreement, that in many countries is enforceable by secular law.
I think, Perhaps this prenuptial agreement is one of the oldest existing prenuptial agreements in principle in the world. It describes the husbandâs responsibilities towards his wife, and provides for the separation of rights and duties and prevents divorces due to petty family quarrels - at least because the husband will have to pay a considerable amount for the divorce. The main responsibilities of the husband, by the way, are: - feed his wife - provide his wife with clothes - support a family - satisfy the wife in bed Sex in general is an important point in family life. It is especially interesting that, unlike many other cultures, the pleasure of a woman is put quite high. Most often, the wedding ritual has almost the same sequence: 1. Signing of Ketuvah 2. Concealment of the face of the bride 3. Passage of the groom to the Chuppah 4. Passage of the bride to the Chuppah and her "bypass" of the groom 7 times 5. Putting the ring on the finger 6. Public reading of Ketuvah 7.7 Blessings 8. Glass breaking 9. The privacy of the bride and groom in the room 10. Triumph and fun Hiding the brideâs face under a piece of fabric has a different explanation, but the most common of them is the groomâs awareness that the past beauty is temporary and can end, and the inner beauty will remain. Also, in some interpretations, this may be a sign of the bride belonging to the groom. A wedding is of great importance not only as a celebration of the creation of a new unit of society. It is believed that when a soul appears in heaven, before being sent to earth, God divides it into two equal halves and sends it to the earth in different bodies. And when people get married, then the two halves of the soul are united together again. This legend seems to me very beautiful and symbolic.
The Chuppah is a decorated piece of cloth held aloft as a symbolic home for the new couple. It is usually held outside, under the stars, as a sign of the blessing given by G-d to the patriarch Abraham, that his children shall be "as the stars of the heavens."
When the bride arrives at the Chuppah she circles the groom seven times with her mother and future mother-in-law, while the groom continues to pray. This symbolizes the idea of the woman being a protective, surrounding light of the household, that illuminates it with understanding and love from within and protects it from harm from the outside.
ĐĄhuppah (literally) is the awning under which the wedding ceremony takes place. Usually it looks like a piece of cloth that rests on four poles, but now it can be almost anything. In addition, "Chuppah" is called the entire ceremony that takes place under this canopy - that is, the entire official part of the holiday.
Another interesting point is that the groom under the chuppah is escorted by the fathers of the newlyweds, and the bride by their mothers. Parents hold candles in their hands that embody joy and light.
The number "7" also has its meaning - this is perfection and completeness. After the bride walks around the groom 7 times, she becomes on his right hand, which means that from that moment she becomes his main support in life.
No less interesting point, I think, is that the bride put the ring on the index finger of her right hand.
There are many rules in a Jewish wedding - for example, the brideâs wedding dress is described in great detail, although now even in religious weddings a minimal set of rules is used. The brideâs dress should not have deep cuts on the chest and on the back, should have closed shoulders (ideally a sleeve at least to the elbows), and the skirt should cover the knees. The groom should be in a black suit, tie and always with his head covered. He is allowed to wear a yarmulke or hat at the wedding. Snacks on the table should be at least 18, since in Hebrew this number is consonant with the word "live" and ect.
The blessings begin with praising G-d for His creation in general and creation of the human being and proceed with praise for the creation of the human as a "two part creature," woman and man. The blessings express the hope that the new couple will rejoice together forever as though they are the original couple, Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. The blessings also include a prayer that Jerusalem will be fully rebuilt and restored with the Temple in its midst and the Jewish people within her gates.
The verse, "If I forget thee O' Jerusalem, let my right hand forget its cunning: If I do not raise thee over my own joy, let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth", is sometimes recited at this point. With the breaking of the glass the band plays, and the guests usually break out into dancing and cries of "Mazaltov! Mazaltov!"
Another obligatory point of the holiday is connected with this - after 7 blessings, the groom breaks a glass glass with his foot. This is not quite part of the marriage ceremony, but a custom that symbolizes (according to one version) that a Jew should never be 100% happy. In any case, his joy should be at least slightly overshadowed by the general tragedy of the people in memory about the expulsion of Jews from Jerusalem and the destruction of the temple about 2000 years ago. Then the groom reads a prayer, and after the celebration continues again.
After chuppah, the newlyweds retire to a room where they must stay for at least eight minutes - this is considered the beginning of family life and gives them the opportunity to talk for the first time in the past week.
The fact is that a week before the wedding, they stop communicating - they are allotted time to reflect and understand whether they want this marriage. In the room they can talk for the first time as husband and wife.
The dancing, in accordance with Jewish religious rules requires a separation between men and women for reasons of modesty, and hence there is a Mechitzah, or partition between the men and women. The main focus of the dancing is to entertain and enhance the joy of the newlyweds, hence large circles are formed around the "king and queen," and different guests often perform in front of the seated couple. It is not unusual to see jugglers, fire eaters, and acrobats at a wedding (most of whom are guests, not professionals!)
It seems to me that Jewish weddings are very different from many other wedding rituals, which makes them look quite curious and unusual.
I think that in my project I will try to use the most vivid and exotic nuances of this holiday. For example, the "exaltation" of the newlyweds, dancing separately men and women, breaking the glass and other colorful moments.

art is more important than real life (donât read this, itâll bore you)
I think art is more important than real life.Â
When I say âReal lifeâ I mean going to work, paying bills, eating, water, gas, stuff like that. all the essentialsÂ
Today I could die but all the videos, songs, and paintings/drawings Iâve ever made would still live on.Â
we look at the mona lisa to this day - sheâs used as a meme. and she was painted in 1503. America wasnât even a country yet (and wouldnât be for almost 300 years)Â
I think this is why I am somewhat content with being considered a loser by societal standards. I only say somewhat because it does get to me sometimes. Seeing people on facebook getting married, having kids, moving cities, landing crazy high tech silicon valley jobs, or a career they always wanted even when I knew them in grade school. Those are the people Iâm truly the most jealous of. The oneâs who have always known what they wanted. Iâve never liked anything my entire life, not even myself. how tf do you know what you want your career to be when youâre like 14? and then follow through with it years later, and continue to not want something different? I really donât think thatâs luck - itâs determination and setting your mind to a goal and never giving up. Those people defintiely had hurdles, and got over every single one. (a lot of people will literally go into 100k+ worth of debt just to prove themselves) The mentally strong are the people we should be listening too. Not the ones who are rich and have followers.Â
People try so hard to make their life look like itâs awesome and we all know that even rich people (who are statistically more likely to kill themselves) are actually miserable because they value their entire self-worth on money and material possessions. I feel like we all in a way get caught up in this, because itâs hard not too. The same piece of paper we use to buy food can also be used to buy something that could potentially devalue who you are as a human being. (like buying a gun and killing someone) or vice-versa. (buying a bunch of clothes, food, water, and giving it out to homeless people)Â Â
Even on social media, every view, every sub, every follower, every like, every comment, every time.... it feels really good. Like someone gives a shit. Iâm not afraid to admit that this is probably a toxic way to feel. I value my self-worth way too much on social media because this is where some of my âartâ goes. I canât help it, I want people to see what Iâve created. Maybe that makes me an attention whore but I donât care. If I made you laugh, or entertained, or look at life in a better lens then Iâve accomplished my goal. Even if it is just for a few seconds.Â
There are ~7.7 billion people on this Earth - itâs ok if one is a degenerate who spends his time trying to make others laugh. at least thatâs what I tell myself
I hate the question where do you see yourself in five years? Do you realize how much could change in five fucking years? I could get life in prison or be the king of Egypt in five years. fuck if I know man. Â
TLDR: Art is more important than real life. Because after you die, none of the shit you own or the money you make goes with you.
If you read this whole thing you probably canât sleep. <3

Word from the âWart
By Li Li Chung
What is âgreenâ? Thereâs the color green, which is as soothing as blue and opposite of fiery red.
Trees, foliage are mostly green. I like this subtitle â âSome Kind of Greenâ in Yahoo Newsâ Five Singapore statistics that stunned in 2018: âThe Botanic Gardens are a UNESCO World Heritage site and almost half the city is under green cover, but we are undeniably wasteful. The 820 million plastic supermarket bags that Singapore uses each year could fill Gardens by the Bay 126 times over. Only about 2 percent of those bags are recycled.â
We can eat green: organic, vegan although I am not fond of eating only uncooked, cold food and I can only take so much of shriveled, air-dried vegetables and portobello mushrooms pretending to be hamburger buns.
This looks positive: âThe Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources (MEWR) has designated 2019 as the Year Towards Zero Wasteâ. The statistic quoted: âOf the 1.6 million tonnes of domestic waste disposed of in 2017, one third consisted of packaging waste (includes plastics)â. Zero is good, right? To me, zero has an artificial âfeel goodâ ring to it. If whatever you consume is burnt up/recycled 100%, net net itâs zero.
So, the official posture gives the impression that our problem in Singapore is mostly about not recycling enough. In fact, some argue that we donât have a plastic waste problem, itâs only â11 percent of the total waste generated in Singapore in 2017â. What about the demand side, are we overconsuming plastic material? We would not have to recycle so much if we did not use so much in the first place (a stunning 2017 stat: 7.7 million tonnes of waste were produced in Singapore, a seven-fold increase from 40 years ago). The Zero Waste press release says: âOf the 1.6 million tonnes of domestic waste disposed of in 2017, one-third consisted of packaging waste (includes plastics)â. So we are advised to â... avoid single-use disposables where possible. Bring your own reusable bags, containers, and utensils. Choose products with less/green packagingâ. That âgreenâ word again. Green also means dissolving miraculously back into nature without harming it or any living thing.
But wait, thereâs another color: blue. âLaunch of the Singapore Blue Plan 2018!â, which is an impressive 230-page document on what to do about protecting marine life. At around the same time, a motion to charge for plastic bags was rejected in Parliament. A side thought on fighting diabetes: drink more water to cut back on sweet drinks. Connected topics?
Will we Singaporeans only get excited when microplastics show up inside our food? Ernest Gohâs Plasticity project talks about what we donât see: the microplastic bits that marine life mistakes for food. Makes one think carefully about eating fish as a healthier alternative to meat. It is not conclusive that consuming fish meat carrying microplastics is directly harmful to humans, causing malfunction of our organs. Do we need such hard evidence before we buck up and do something about how much plastic material we are using and throwing away? Itâs showing up: âToxic bacteria found on small pieces of plastic trash from Singapore beachesâ.
The tough question is how are we to behave? How do we stop using so much plastic? Is it enough, just shouting to get people to do the right thing? Should we be made to stop using so much plastic?
My favorite plastic gripe is the sale of bottled water (nearly 30% of discarded plastic items). I think we should stop selling them. But, in Singapore, it is not as easy as carrying water from home in your own bottle. It is about finding where in Singapore to refill them. And on that, we are sorely behind other countries. Not only are drinking water dispensers hard to find around Singapore, restaurants, and pubs will not refill your water bottle if you just want to walk in and ask. Nearly all beverage vendors in hawker centers/food courts charge 30cents for a cup of boiled water. Nowhere else except in Singapore, do I cringe at possibly getting scolded for asking for water from a food or beverage vendor. Would it be easy for the government to give a tax break to F&B businesses to allow them to give out free water? If we can ban chewing gum in one fell swoop, we can ban selling plastic bottled water, no?
What can we safely eat? That portobello mushroom bun doesnât look so comical after all.

I want to talk about the sloppiness and lack of attention to detail in the OUAT writing in the later seasons.
Now some might call it lazy writing but I think that does a disservice to writers who work really hard. I think some fault could be laid on the time they had to write each script, the way the episode assignments were broken out, and bad communication between writers. But I think the real culprit is the lack of oversight, attention to detail, and planning.
When you try to watch the later seasons as a whole (for me 5-7 are the worst though the cracks are certainly there in S4) it becomes painfully clear that somebody (*cough* A&E *cough*) was sleeping on the job. The beginning and the ends donât match. The middle is full of character inconsistencies, timeline shenanigans, aborted character and plot arcs, unfired Chekovâs guns, and throwaway characters and MacGuffins. Itâs like watching a first draft.
Take, for example, KnightRook. Now I think KnightRook turned out to be one of the more compelling aspects of S7 but itâs pretty clear that the details of their story either werenât firmly established or nobody was doing the work to make sure the scripts were consistent. In 7.2 Wish!Hook tells OG Hook that a vengeful witch trapped Alice in a prison and that every day he would sneak in to play chess with her until the witch caught him and poisoned his heart. But that story is contradicted 5 episodes later in 7.7 where we see that the witch was her biological mother who left newborn Alice in the tower and that Hook decided to live there with her. Whatâs more, in 7.13 we see that while his heart was poisoned it wasnât because Gothel caught him sneaking into the tower.
The explanation in 7.2 doesnât make sense, it shows that the writers of the episode had the basic shape of the story, something vaguely Rapunzel-ish with chess pieces and a poisoned heart, but not the specifics. Furthermore at the recent convention, Rose and Colin mentioned that they got a script where their characters hug, something impossible with Hookâs poisoned heart. That, to me, shows a shocking lack of knowledge about KnightRook. And I imagine when writing 22 episodes split between 13 people it can get very complicated to make sure everyone is on the same page but before the script got to the actors someone in the writing team should have picked up on such a glaring mistake. That it slipped through is just one sign of the larger problem.
If the full arc between Hook, Alice and Gothel had been planned out and communicated to the writing staff than these problems shouldnât have happened. Which means it either wasnât planned or wasnât communicated (or both I guess).Â
I have a sneaking suspicion (one I would love confirmed if someone can) that a writing trick A&E picked up on Lost was to throw mentions of things or events into the script to add questions and mystery that the audience would want answered. Then they would retroactively write a story that fit whatever was mentioned. It fits with JJ Abramsâ âmystery boxâ method (and thatâs a whole other post) and explains much of these types of inconsistencies (of which there are many).
Of course, this method is only effective if someone is doing the hard work to make sure that when Dark Swan says âfor what you did to me you are about to be punishedâ it actually lines up with what happens throughout the season (spoiler alert it doesnât). I think thatâs whatâs so frustrating, that these issues are easily avoided with more attention to detail and planning.Â
#ouat#ouat critical#ouat meta#mryddinwilt metas#ouat negativity#because I guess it might upset some people#but I think i'm just pointing something out really#and I have other issues#but this is low hanging fruit as it were

Have made a big timetable for tomorrow. Have stuff planned from 06:00-22:30, and have decided to only do 4/5 of the tasks set (the minimum I got told I could do is 3/5 but I was worried that I'd have to do really really well in all of them to do well overall). I wanted to do all 5 to maximize my grades but when I sat and made a plan for them all, the 5th one just kept giving me total mental block so it's off the list for now, unless I run really far ahead of schedule tomorrow.
I don't expect to get ahead of schedule, I think I'm more likely to fall behind. I've got basically 4 classes worth of final piece of Big Coursework (each of which should take 2+ weeks) so I don't know how achievable it is to do them all in a day. Time to put my definitely broken brain to some good use.
time until final deadline: 35h 58m
work done: 7.7/66.25

Sometimes, Iâm the fuckboy
[Personal Post Time]
Okay so, Iâm in a new city and Iâm doing hot girl new city shit, right?
Hooked up with my [current] plug when I first moved here and didnât know anyone. Met a pretty chill guy that I wasnât so sure about that I havenât really talked to in weeks. TBH, that isnât going anywhere. I think were pretty unclear enough that it ended up being a silent acknowledgement. Like, when youâre hooking up and then pump the breaks for a month or two but the DMs are lowkey open. Then, I met Boy C and he seemed/still seems to be quite fond of me but almost too fond and while weâre having fun... I honestly donât see myself being the type of girlfriend that would really fit perfectly with him and I know relationships arenât realistically perfect fits but you can at least catch a vibe from someone within the first few weeks/months knowing them... like, I can tell that when I bring up the idea of âslowing downâ or âdating aroundâ still, it definitely bums him out and Iâm not so selfish that I expect to keep dragging the guy along because he likes me and heâs sweet. If anything, itâs the opposite. Iâd rather him meet some other chick that meshes with him better than I do and get ghosted. Maybe thatâs my problem. Iâll only accept hooking up and having fun with no attachments then ultimately being ghosted because thatâs what Iâm willing to give... so yeah. Â
Sometimes, Iâm the fuckboy.
Iâve been on one recent date with a guy that seemed to have the similar mindset and thereâs this weird inner peace with having not heard from him in a few days but knowing I could just pick up the phone, shoot a text, and leave the ball in his court until heâs ready with no hurt feelings... maybe just the equivalent of wanting a McFlurry only to have the McDonaldâs employee inform you that the ice cream machine is [still] broken, ya know? Bummer but ~ohhh nooo, now I have to get soft serve from literally anywhere else~
Additionally, the plug is single again and expressing interest. Thereâs also a comforting feeling of playing with fire again because Iâve already been burned by this one and know that itâs manageable if it happens again... and that I can pull away when Iâm not ready for anything hotter. [AKA feelings. Iâm speaking metaphorically now to sound like even more of an asshole, thanks]
While I do enjoy the game, Iâm not coming out of cruelty and selfishness here. I just think that so many people between 20 and 40 rush in to serious relationships that make them unhappy in the end. A lot of people have lost the ability or desire to just enjoy one another in a relationship whether it be romantic or platonic, physical or just casual. Itâs almost like weâve become too afraid to hurt one another yet we continue to do shitty things to one another anyways? But if youâre trying to be open and honest to avoid the pain or alleviate it in any way for yourself and the opposite party, youâre also at risk of being the asshole?
I read a webtoon titled âNonethelessâ recently and found myself relating to both main characters but mostly the male lead (until he pulled a stunt that was so unspeakably cruel to the main girl... in retaliation to something petty she had done buuuuuut n o n e t h e l e s s) because he was open with her about his expectations with his shallow relationships around campus and I thought it was well worded and kind of beautiful.
Iâm only responsible for my feelings at the end of the day, though. Iâve worn both shoes. I canât make someone care for me more deeply no less that they can make me feel that way. I canât make the receiving end of ghosting/breaking up hurt less for anyone. All I can do is offer the same respect and grace in doing so that I would like given to me... which can hurt worse sometimes. Itâs situational to each person. I get that.
In closing, Iâd like to say this I guess [cause I didnât expect to go on such a long rant that almost sounds like it could be a generic teen vogue or buzzfeed piece], itâs okay to be the fuckboy sometimes. These things happen to us all and we eventually play each role in our relationships. Letâs all do better and try not to let one bad experience change how we view love entirely. Feel it and appreciate the experience but bait up and try again.
After all, weâve been told our whole lives that there are plenty of fish in the sea.
And no two fish are exactly alike...
I think the same applies to the 7.7 billion of us humans.

Lies, the Universe & Mad Men
In this short lived blog Iâve lied to you. Our relationship just started and Iâm already out here telling you mistruths...I owe you an apology. It wasnât a malicious one, but the size of the lie was monumental. This outright falsehood has become engrained into our culture and belief system without any evidence supporting it, like a religion or other dogmatic belief system. Worse yet, thereâs probably more evidence against it that people blindly ignore to avoid the cold, decidedly inconvenient truth (I believe in climate change but in this instance thereâs no pun intended). So before anything else let me say Iâm sorry. Iâve never wanted to be the kind of person who tells these kinds of lies, certainly not to myself. So here goes...
The universe doesnât conspire to grant wishes. It doesnât value spunk. It doesnât reward the consistent. This seems overwhelmingly negative but it shouldnât be. The universe does a lot of things! Itâs constantly creating fusion reactors that churn out the very atoms of which youâre made. Those atoms come together to form the air you breathe, the mountains you might climb, the brushstrokes of a masterpiece that moves you to tears and the blood that blushes the skin of your loved oneâs face when you say just the right thing. Thatâs not even close to a fraction of it. Anything that you could possibly observe, so much of which is absurdly beautiful, is a process of or within the universe. But what the universe doesnât do is consider your feelings or desires. It just doesnât happen. And you should stop thinking that it does. And you should stop filling people with the false hope that it will.
Think about the sheer complexity and time that it takes for all of existence to allow for a set of circumstances to randomly play out. If youâre still thinking that the universe has an interest in your success, your concept of it is still too small and self interested. The observable universe is so big it would take light 13+ BILLION years to cross from one side of the universe to the next. Letâs say thereâs an intelligent civilization at one edge of the universe. If they broadcasted a message from their end of the universe to a different civilization on the other side of it, the second civilization wouldnât receive that message for billions of years. Billions of years! For comparison, humanity is only a couple hundred thousand years old. âThey say you die twice, once when you stop breathing and the second, a bit later on, when somebody mentions your name for the last time.â Anyone around when that message was sent could have lived and died twice, thousands of times over before that message was received.
Civilization. Ours is massive and getting bigger. At the time of this writing there are about 7.7 billion of us and thereâs speculation that we could top 11 billion by the end of the century. All of us, on one planet with finite resources and an economic system built on the concept of infinite growth. Thereâs got to be competing interests that necessitate a âloserâ.Â
Have you ever watched the Olympics? The Menâs 100m is one of the most fascinating sporting events. Itâs not simply a display of strength, thereâs an artistry required to lower your times past a certain threshold. But before each race, as the competitors get into their blocks, each one of them genuflects. This has never not confused me. Seriously. I get it. But only one person can win! I think the most generous interpretation of it is that theyâre all praying for the best race they have within themselves. I can understand and relate to the idea of being the best version of yourself regardless of the outcome. But who competes without the desire to win? Donât we actually think that competition without that âkiller instinctâ to win is just a prerequisite for losing?
Imagine there are civilizations all throughout the cosmos with resource distribution complexity issues roughly equal to our own. Can you really imagine that the universe is out here taking a particular interest in each individual, securing them the things they truly want? Thatâs just not practical. So instead we imagine that the universe is only doing this service for the people who âtruly want somethingâ. But the universe is constantly doing, indiscriminately. This very second the ocean is reclaiming the island nation of the Maldives. Their buildings, their economy, their way of life. Depending on whether or not there is another country or group of countries willing to have them, the ocean could potentially reclaim the people of the Maldives too. Clearly the culture of the Maldives hasnât sufficiently valued not drowning in its list of things they truly want.
What do you truly want? Is it money? Cars? Women? Is it something more wholesome, like children? A career that fulfills you? A person to see you for who you are and still accept you? What about something that seems more fundamental? Not passing away painfully in some natural disaster or terrorist attack? A life free of emotional, physical, or sexual abuse? To be unburdened by addiction or to have the will power to triumph over it? Or is it simply a job that you donât particularly want but desperately need in order to earn a living for yourself and your family? The questions should bear out the point, but for the sake of being explicit it simply isnât possible that the people these things donât work out for didnât want it enough. Looking at it the opposite way makes it even more clear. Things work out all the time for people who are indifferent to those opportunities. And it fosters some kind of morbid elitism to really believe that.
Paulo Coelho wrote an inspiring piece of fiction and people treat it as if he wrote a modern bible illuminating the path toward a purposeful life for those who make themselves available to it. The Alchemist got endorsements from celebrities, like Oprah, claiming they connected with the spirit of intention in the development of their careers. They speak to the truth of how the universe works when you want something badly enough. This is deeply offensive to the legacy of artists who werenât sufficiently appreciated in their time and had to die to be taken seriously. Johann Sebastian Bach wasnât recognized as a composer while he was alive, instead only viewed as a competent organist. The author of Moby Dick only earned $10,000 from his writing over the course of his life. Van Gogh killed himself, a consequence of mental illness and depression over a lack of success.
So I lied to you but really I lied to me. I, in good faith, regurgitated lies told to me in good faith. Different from the televangelists asking for your rent money for tithes so they can purchase mansions and private jets, I wasnât encouraged to purchase The Alchemist for a percentage of my monthly income to witness my dreams come true. It was given to me. Gifted to me, at a dark time in my life in the hopes that it would spark belief in myself at a time when I needed it. But the principal message of the book is a fantasy. The universe doesnât know my name, doesnât value my ambitions and will move on, business as usual, if you or I, died in the street cold and alone. That only became more clear as the dark time that I received The Alchemist in only got darker. How badly I want what I want matters only to me and a bit less so to those that love me but, fairly, have their own ambitions to be weary of.
This talk of dark times reminds me about another stunning fact about the universe worth pondering. The standard mode of existence in the universe is actually dark and cold. It just happens to be the case that the laws of physics, at this particular moment in the life of the universe, facilitate the creation of stars which warm and illuminate incalculably large swaths of the heavens.Â
Paulo Coelhoâs book took the onus of facilitating your destiny out of your hands and into the hands of a nameless, faceless, benevolent space fairy. While beautiful fiction, this is just an outright diffusion of responsibility. But there is a truth to be told about the universe. It not warm and fuzzy. It wonât make you feel taken care of. It might frighten you, depending on your openness to being challenged. As I write this, Iâm not feeling particularly open to challenge. But it returns control of the ride that is your life from a figment of Coelhoâs imagination to you, an undeniably real person. Make of it what you will...
âThe most terrifying fact about the universe is not that it is hostile but that it is indifferent, but if we can come to terms with that indifference, then our existence as a species can have genuine meaning. However vast the darkness, we must supply our own light.â - Stanley Kubrick

Murderers Anonymous
You donât want to read about me.
Seriously, Iâm not worth your time.
Youâre still reading? Are you one of those types who has to leave a handprint on the wall because you donât trust the wet paint sign? Or is it just a rebellious streak? Have you been diagnosed with oppositional defiant disorder?
Approximately 26% of Americans over the age of eighteen suffer from at least one diagnosable cognitive disorder. Spend some time researching your personality quirks on the internet and youâll come up with a myriad of disastrous issues. Are you obsessive compulsive? Bulimic? Maybe you have ADHD? Social anxiety issues? Ergophobia? List some things about yourself â donât worry you wonât be alone! We can give you a nice little label, some pills, and most importantly an excuse for all of your shortcomings.
Donât get me wrong; Iâm not discounting disorders entirely. We are all legitimately fucked up. Maybe Iâm just saying the titles, categories, and treatments are misnomers. Maybe Iâm saying narrowing the scope of whatâs wrong down to one âconditionâ only serves to give us the illusion of control.
Or maybe Iâm not.
Are you seriously still reading?
I knew a guy once; letâs call him Billy, who went off to Iraq fresh out of high school. Billy was pretty fucked up before he went to Iraq, a borderline alcoholic with penchant for fighting anyone who looked at him the wrong way. Billy had issues, but these combined with his miserably low high school GPA made him a perfect candidate to become one of Uncle Samâs boys.
Three weeks into deployment an RPG struck Billyâs Humvee. He probably would have become meat pudding if it hadnât been for his best friend in the unit, a poor son of a bitch named Joe Murphy, who happened to be standing between Billy and the Humvee when the grenade struck.
âSo she lifts up the burka and sheâs packing a dong!â Kind of sad, isnât it? Wouldnât you wish your last words were more flattering, and not the punch line to a joke about a goat-herderâs unfortunate run in with a transsexual Sunni?
I donât know; who am I to judge?
What was left of Joe coated Billy. Iâm talking searing hot flesh melting into his skin, gore forcing its way into his mouth, and eviscerated organs clinging to his body like parts of some grotesque ensemble.
I remember the party his family threw for him when he returned. I attended not because I was particularly fond of Billy; I just wanted to feel a sense of belonging. You know, the type of feeling that you get when tell someone you donated to charity, or ran a 5k to support cancer research.
You just do it so everyone thinks youâre a good person.
Everyone includes you.
Halfway through the evening, someone popped a balloon and Billy shit himself, put his hands over his ears, screamed at the top of his lungs, and ran until he tripped and fell face first into his welcome back cake, destroying it as he fell to the floor, face coated in vanilla frosting and pants soaked through with feces.
Approximately 7.7 million Americans over the age of eighteen suffer from Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, typically resulting from an injury or severe psychological shock. Symptoms include loss of sleep, constant vivid recall of the traumatic experience, inappropriate emotional outbursts, psychological regression, and a dulled response to the outside world.
The last I heard, Billy was addicted to pain killers, had a constant twitch, was unemployed and blowing dudes for pills in an alley in Tacoma, Washington.Maybe itâs true, maybe itâs not.
Does it matter? Heâs fucked up, youâre fucked up, Iâm fucked up.
And youâre still reading.
I knew a kid once, an imaginative, bright little boy who had the misfortune of being born into a low income family. Maybe his creativity came from his mother, a failed artist turned pot dealer who was more concerned with completing high school level pieces of art than she ever was with taking care of a son. Or maybe it was from his father, who so inventively named the belt he beat his son with âMr. Slackâ for reasons unknown.
âYouâve been a bad, bad boy!â Mr. Slack would say in a voice eerily similar to that of Mickey Mouse. âMr. Slack is cominâ for ya!â
But honestly, the boy probably got his creative and unique perspective from watching his parents fuck. His first memories of this were from when he was four or five, but he thought that the experiences went further back than that. His parents had the odd habit of stripping down and boning right in front of him, literally dropping whatever they were doing to go at it.
âOh let him watch! Heâll learn early!â his obese father cackled as he thrust his stubby cock into the eagerly awaiting mouth of his wife. The boy was startled by how his mother stared directly into his eyes the entire time, as if she was taunting him.
Or enticing him.
Maybe his parents caused his social anxiety and sexual dysfunction issues, but these were exacerbated by wasting four years of his life dating a stuck-up, cold-blooded cunt who left him during his most trying time. Â
I fucking hate you, Kelly.
I love you, Kelly.
You donât want to read about that boy. It will only make you a worse person. The baggage heâs carrying, well itâs just too much. Why donât you go buy one of those commercial novels? You know, one of those feel good stories with the predictable arc where, despite the central conflict and the tension that arises with the love interest, the main character learns a valuable lesson, all misunderstandings are cleared up, the conflict is resolved, and everyone lives happily ever after.
This is your final warning.
No?
Maybe youâre just as fucked up as I am.

The Linc - Eagles âreally like Josh Jacobsâ
Letâs get to the Philadelphia Eagles links ...
Report: Eagles âreally likeâ Alabama RB Josh Jacobs - CBS Sports Geoff Mosher: âIâve been hearing that...donât be shocked if the Eagles take a running back in the first round. They really like Josh Jacobs.â Adam Caplan: âI talked to Greg Cosell from NFL Films. He likes (Jacobs) a lot. An offensive coordinator who I ran into at the combine said Jacobs is his top graded back in the draft. Heâs a three-down back.â Geoff Mosher: âI think we need to adjust our philosophy. The people that said Howie Roseman would never take a running back in the first round. Do remember, two years ago...if Christian McCaffery was there at No. 14, he would have been an Eagle.â
Why The Eagles Brought Ronald Darby Back - BGN All things considered, Darbyâs transitional quickness gives him route-mirroring ability that is starting-caliber in the NFL; his click-and-close explosiveness and catch-point skills are in the upper echelon of NFL starters altogether. Darby hasnât finished a season since 2016, but he has Pro Bowl ability on the field, and if he can stay healthy (and return to health without losing his athletic ability), Eagles fans should be excited about his starting role in 2019.
NFC East free agency grades: Dallas Cowboys edition - PhillyVoice Without knowing exactly what Lawrence is looking for, contract-wise, the clock is ticking on a resolution there. The Cowboys can ill-afford to mess up that situation, because their defense is in deep trouble without him. Otherwise, predictably, the Cowboys were not players in the first wave of free agency. Theyâll hunt bargains the rest of the way. Their grade is probably better saved until we see what these contract extensions for their current players look like, but they might not happen until much later this offseason. For now, weâll give them an arbitrary C+.
Lawlor: Players show they want to come to Philly - PE.com I think you have to give Howie Roseman a lot of credit for adding an impact player to the offense and defense. Too often people think of teams that make the most moves as being those who win in the offseason. Thatâs wrong. You want to make smart, selective moves. The Eagles have done just that. One thing that really stood out to me is that players wanted to be here. Graham didnât even talk to other teams. He wanted to stay with the Eagles. Malik Jackson wants to play in an attacking scheme and for a winning team. DeSean Jackson has talked a lot over the years about wanting a chance to return to Philly.
2019 NFL Free Agency winners and losers: PFF WAR - PFF While getting back a first- and a third-round pick for Odell Beckham Jr. may seem like a strong return, the truth of the matter is this: OBJ was one of the most valuable non-quarterbacks in recent memory and his nearly two full wins above replacement are going to be hard to come by. Combine that with their loss of Landon Collins, who was worth three-quarters of a win, on the defensive side of the ball, and the Giants have done more harm than good to a roster depleted of playmakers outside of Saquon Barkley.
A Giant Mess - Rotoworld Thereâs no denying Barkleyâs remarkable skill set, but when a foundation piece at the most important position is staring you square in the face, you donât dare look that gift horse in the mouth. To say Barkley had a superior rookie year to Darnold is both a statement of fact and a short-sighted, ludicrously flawed rationale for Gettlemanâs poor use of draft capital. Even if Barkley continues on this path and becomes the next LaDainian Tomlinsonâa distinct possibility after leading the league in yards from scrimmage last yearâthe Giants still got it wrong from a team-building philosophy. Itâs not just that running backs have a significantly shorter shelf life than QBs (the continued dominance of Drew Brees and Tom Brady would point to that fact). Itâs a simple matter of supply and demand. Compared to elite quarterbacks, star running backs practically grow on trees. Chris Carson was four picks away from being Mr. Irrelevant two years ago. Phillip âwho lives at homeâ Lindsay wasnât even drafted last year. Both rushed for over 1,000 yards last season.
Eaglesâ offseason is going much better than rest of NFC East - NBCSP Collins got a mega-deal, the kind the Giants were never going to pay him. The âSkins got a great player, but they clearly had to overpay to do it. Heâs getting $14M a year. The Keenum deal isnât awful given their circumstances, but Keenum vs. Colt McCoy in training camp kind of tells you about the ceiling the Redskins have in 2019. They actually signed Flowers, the failed Giants draft pick, and plan to play him at guard. The Eagles have to be thrilled about that decision. The worst part of the âSkinsâ offseason is that weâre apparently finding out about all these moves at the same time as head coach Jay Gruden. According to a report from 106.7, Gruden learned about the Collins signing only when a media member texted him. Thatâs not great.
Passing-game role makes Ezekiel Elliott even more valuable - PFT Also, there are two contracts that control the relationship: The contract between the player and the team, and the contract between the union and the league. Elliott has rights under the broader contract that are independent of his individual contract, and that allow him to technically violate the terms of his own deal. By taking advantage of those rights, he can try to leverage the Cowboys into doing the right thing, before he ends up being the next guy who finally makes it to free agency with bald tires and far less money in the bank than he deserves.
Teams Readying for Rosen, Peppersâs Fit for the Giants, Adrian Petersonâs Other Suitors - MMQB Itâs hard to find a better way to announce a retirement than what Haloti Ngata pulled off on Monday morning: posting a picture of himself holding a flag atop Mount Kilimanjaro. Iâm not a Hall of Fame voter, and I try to be sparing with calling guys future Hall of Famers, but Ngata should be a serious consideration in five years. Really, he helped anchor a generation of great defenses in Baltimore, along with Hall of Famer Ray Lewis, 2019 inductee Ed Reed and Terrell Suggs, another potential HOFer. If all four get in, by the way, that would be more than the â86 Bears defense had inducted (Dan Hampton, Richard Dent and Mike Singeltary are the three from that group), which says a lot about the job Ozzie Newsome did building those teams.
Redskins Sign Offensive Lineman Ereck Flowers to a One-Year Deal - Hogs Haven The Redskins just received some help on the offensive line, and it comes in the form of a 6â6â 335 pound 24 year old player. Former Giants first round pick Ereck Flowers has signed a one-year, $4 million dollar contract to join the Washington Redskins.
Jets re-sign Eric Tomlinson and Brent Qvale - Gang Green Nation [BLG Note: The Eagles originally signed Tomlinson as an undrafted free agent back in 2015 and heâs still hanging on in the league.]
Slot size matters - Niners Nation You just need to scheme for it, and add downfield blocking to your mix. This is what Chip Kelly did at Oregon, but was never quite able to achieve in the NFL. And he picked Jordan Matthews in the second round of his second draft as part of his attempt to make it happen. Kellyâs Philly teams had great WR blocking, once DeSean Jackson was gone, and one of the best blocking receivers was a veteran named Miles Austin, now an offensive quality control coach for the Niners. He mentored Matthews in Philly and recruited him to the team this offseason, Matthews told team reporter Keiana Martin.
The completely risk free nature of Mychal Kendricksâ contract with the Seahawks - Field Gulls It has been less than a week since the Seattle Seahawks inked Mychal Kendricks to a one year contract, and that has led many observers to believe that it was an extremely good sign for his prospects for freedom. Terms of the contract have now been released, and it shows that the signing carries effectively no financial risk for the Hawks, as there is no guaranteed money.
If the Giants pass on Haskins the Jaguarsâ decision may not be easy - Big Cat Country The question the Jaguars need to answer is how close they think this team is to competing without upgrading the offensive line or receiving corps with their present draft slot. As Oehser further noted, if the Jaguars believe Foles is the answer then they should not expect to be sitting high in in the first round for a few years to come. Your opportunity to grab a premier quarterback may be a present truth. Oehser makes a compelling point, one that mirrors what the Green Bay Packers did years ago when you still had Brett Favre on the roster but Aaron Rodgers fell to them. If you believe Haskins has the head for the NFL, but needs some bench time to transition considering his limited playing time at Ohio State, sitting behind Foles seems like an optimal scenario for the Jaguars.
How the NFL can save the onside kick - ESPN The NFLâs onside kick might be responsible for more drama than any other single strategy in football. The mere possibility that a team can steal an extra possession has preserved hope and extended the attention of fans for generations. So itâs no wonder that the competition committee and coaches around the league are scouring for ways to restore the onside kick this offseason after it faded as a viable option in 2018. Restricted by rule changes designed to make the kickoff safer, teams recovered only four of 52 attempts last season for a 7.7 conversion rate -- a sharp drop from 2017 (21.1) and well below the long-term average between 2001 and 2017 (19.7 percent).

But as theyâve played things conservatively, Indy has illustrated the value in using that financial flexibility with patience and creativity.

These are the questions that will invade our pre-draft conversations from now until April 25th. While the draft world likely remains unsettled on anything close to a strong consensus on the 2019 edge defender class, my grade on the position group have been finalized.
