please feed us some yuuji blurbs thereâs a lack of him rn :(
ofc⊠sweetest boy all time⊠hereâs something was was meant to be a longer project but got lost in the editing whirlwind⊠love him so bad...Â
NEVER LOST IN TRANSLATION, BECAUSE YOU KNOW WHAT I WANTÂ
notes: reader is implied to be american/english-speaking, yuuta and megumi are bilingual, yuuji, bless his soul, is not. i didnât use italics for conversations between yuuji and megumi because it would all be in japanese, but when they get mixed later in the scene, japanese is differentiated with italics. hope thatâs not too confusing lololll
Honestly, Yuuji tried his best in school. Some things came easier than other, but with a bit of hard work, and help from his friends, he always managed to pull pretty good grades. But right now, his biggest regret is not taking english more seriously in high school, because itâs been about three weeks since he met you, and heâs only been able to say maybe five full sentences to you without the help of Yuuta or Megumi translating.Â
He was excited when Yuuta said his friend from abroad would be coming to visit and study, but god, he didnât expect you to be so pretty. To have such pretty eyes, and pretty lips, and pretty hair, to have the prettiest voice in the world despite him only understanding every eighteenth word you say. Youâre beautiful to him, and Yuuji thinks that even if he could speak your language fluently, the words would still get caught in his throat. Heâs so lovesick, itâs embarrassingâhis friends have been harping on him blushing and stuttering over you for the past month, and he canât even blame them.
âWhat does she say to you when you guys talk,â Yuuji whines, hovering around Megumi, and not-so-discreetly looking back at you where youâre still sat in the living room laughing with Yuuta, âDoes she ever say anything about me? I meanâprobably not right? Which is fine! Actually, dont tell meâno, do. Or maybeââ
âShe asks about you,â Megumi says, matter-of-fact in delivery, as he places a bag of popcorn in the microwave, but that doesnât curb Yuujiâs enthusiasm. Heâs practically bouncing, if he werenât alreadyâbegging Megumi to spill the details, âWhat did she ask? Tell me! Tell me!âÂ
âShe once asked if you dye your hair.â
âThatâs it?!â Yuuji screams, heartbroken, and visibly deflating.
Megumi shrugs, âYuuta probably knows more. Sheâs his exchange buddy friend thing, so ask him.â
âI canât ask him, heâs right next to her!â Yuuji pouts, âWait, what does âexchange buddy friend thingâ mean? You donât think theyâre more than friends, rightâŠ? I canât blame her, senpai is really pretty, too, and he can actually talk to her⊠so unfair.âÂ
âYou know, sheâs not fluent, but she can understand some Japanese,â Megumi reminds him, âSo, she can definitely hear you, and probably understand you.â
Yuujiâs shoulders slump, and once again, he turns around to look back at you. This time, you two make eye-contact, and that instant, Yuujiâs cheeks go pink, a nervous hand raised to wave at you, and instant internal regret at his actions; but, then you smile, and wave back, and Yuuji stays like that, dumbfounded and lovestruck and on autopilot as he waves with hearts in his eyes until Yuuta looks up from his phone and catches him.
Embarrassing. He knows heâs not the brightest, but heâs at a record high of self-embarrassment since heâs met you.
Yuuta finds himself chuckling when Yuuji spins around and goes back to prodding Megumi with questions. When you turn to face him again, itâs with a shy smile.
âI told you youâd like him,â Yuuta grinsâthe kind that seems sweet and innocent, but has just a kiss of that all-knowing tease to it; the kind that reminds you that heâs truly related to Satoru.
âOh, be quiet,â you grumble, tucking your legs in and resting your chin on your knee. You spare another glance in Yuujiâs direction, for once, grateful for the language barrier between the two of you, when you turn back to Yuuta to proclaim: âI can like someone and not do anything about it. Youâre real good at that, arenât you?â
Yuutaâs slightly cocky grin falls into a scowl, and now you get to smile when he argues back, âWe said not to bring up he who shall not be named in the presence of my friends!â
âThen donât bring up my he who shall not be named in the presence of him!â
âArenât Americans all about forging new frontiers and chasing after your dreams?â he taunts, âWell, your dream is right in front of you.â
âMy dream right now is to kill you.â
âLucky for me, youâre going to have to hold off on that because your lover boy is approaching.â
You donât have time to argue back with Yuuta when Megumi and Yuuji approach the living area with snacks in tow. Yuuta scoots to the tail end of the couch under the guise of giving Yuuji space to place the popcorn and nuggets in the center of the coffee table, but he has just enough time to flash you a wink before Yuuji settles in between. Megumi opts for the loveseat closets to Yuutaâs end of the couch, and you do your best not to reach over Yuuji and strangle Yuuta.
The boys decide on watching a movie youâve never heard of, but Megumi reassures you itâll be easy to follow and has English subtitles. You donât mind, settling in to your corner of the couch with a handful of popcorn just as the title-screen for Human Earthworm 3 rolls across the TV.
You can follow along well-enoughâeven without subtitles, you get the gist of the movie. What you really find entertaining is Yuuji, who occasionally blurts out a comment or exclamation, or audibly coos whenever something sad is happening on screen. Heâs almost as animated as the characters; youâre more of the silent-watcher type, but you find yourself endearing by this commentary, even if you can only understand parts of it.
You particularly appreciate the way that after every comment, he either motions to Megumi, or turns to you himself to repeat his thoughts in his best broken English, and even when you donât understand his words, you understand him. His emotions are all on his sleeve: frustration, happiness, confusion, curiosityâcommunication between you two should be more difficult, but Yuuji makes it easy.
It gives you the confidence you cough out your own observation, âYou, um⊠youâve⊠seen the others? You seem to like this series.â
Across the room, Megumi and Yuuta hold their breaths, opting to not translate for you when you switch from Japanese to English. Yuuji is quiet for a moment, turned to face you with a slightly confused look on his face that makes you nervous, until his eyes brighten up and he smiles and begins nodding ferventlyââYeahâyeah, I do! Itâs my⊠hm how do I say it⊠Oh! Itâs my favorite!â
Between the smile on his face, the blush on his cheeks, and sincerity in his voice, you feel like youâre wrapped up in his world. Itâs a little confusing, and scary, but itâs not all that bad. Maybe you can do something about it, eventually.
âI.. I think I like it, too.â
#anonymous#i love love through different languages...... love is the ultimate language or whatever satoru gojo said#this au was supposed to be a whole thing#but the toggle between differentiating japanese and english makes it hard ://#the only way i can think of that isnt a complete visual nightmare is with italics but even then... i hardly like using italics to begin wit#sigh... oh he's cute#also there's a WHOLE exchange student yuuta au in my head where hes the love interest#one of those easily 60k aus that would be beautiful but idek how to begin writing it#anyways yuuji cutest boy#yuuji x reader#jujutsu kaisen x reader#jjk x reader#jjk fluff#jjk smut#jujutsu kaisen smut#yuuji itadori x reader#yuji x reader#anyways i have more yuuji smut blurbs to finish but alas i must study đ#yuuji.ask

Crazy Ass Girls Gang ft. what type of yandere are they
warnings: yandere behavior - YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED
Tiffany Valentine / clingy, obsessive, manipulativeÂ
You'd better be damn sure you want to be with Tiffany before you ever bring up dating her because there is no escape once you've embarked on the exciting journey of being her romantic partner.
But if we're being honest you never really had a choice. You think you met organically? Became close by fate? No, Tiffany saw you and wanted you and decided to have you.
It was love at first sight on her part.
You'll be friends for a few months as she weaves the inescapable web around you. Best friends, actually. You'll tell her absolutely everything about yourself. Learn everything about her in turn. It's pure bliss to have a friend like Tiffany. Supportive, charming, affectionate.
You can tell she loves you more than anything. Loves you more than anyone else has ever loved you before, and she isn't afraid to show it.
You probably already had a partner when you met Tiffany. She was heartbroken when you first told her. The heartbreak didn't last long. Why cry over spilled milk? She wants to take it slow with you anyways, make sure that this time every aspect of the life you build together will be perfect.
She's come in too heavy before. You can't rush perfection, her mother always told her. For you, the lesson is finally worth learning.
Everything can be a tool. In the right hands. And Tiffany's hands? Why, they're incredibly skilled. She uses your soon-to-be-ex as a diving board for your upcoming relationship with her. Even if you'd been perfectly content with the relationship until you met Tiffany, suddenly everything is awful.
Tiffany points out every mistreatment. Every cancelled date. Every strange tone they used when talking to you. Every shitty, unoriginal gift. Every moment they weren't enthusiastic enough about good news you had to share.
It gets to the point where you can't even look at them half the time. You'll end dates with your partner early just to go spend more time with Tiffany: "What do you think they meant when they said that, Tiff?" / "I think they forgot who they were talking to, sweetheart! They're lucky I wasn't around or I would've cut out their tongue."
Tiffany has you so wrapped around her finger she's not even the one who suggests the break up. She was still going to wait a month or two before she began to truly push.
But when you show up at her doorstep in the middle of the night, holding flowers and her favorite takeout, rambling about how you've been so blind and it's always been Her...
Well, she has to smile as she pulls you in, savoring the last first kiss your lips will ever gift another soul.
She almost forgot how good she is at getting what she wants.
Jordan Li / protective, obsessive, lucid
You're so sweet. It was the first thought Jordan remembers having about you. The beginning of the end. They haven't been able to stop thinking about you since that one fatal moment.
Jordan has plenty of other things to think about. Things that should outclass you in importance easily. Their ranking, Brink's careful mentoring, their grades. They tell themselves that it all still matters more than you but they know they're lying to themselves.
It scares them a little, how much they actually think about you. Not a minute can go by without their thoughts drifting to you.
Did you eat today? / Your next class is in ten minutes, let me walk you, I've got the time. / You were running out of your favorite perfume. Got you a new bottle. / You look upset. Did someone fucking say something to you?
They can't help the way they hover around you during every spare moment they can find.
Jordan knows your schedule by heart to maximize the amount of time you can spend together. It's a balancing act they have to play with their brain for the simplest of tasks: you can spend the rest of the day with Y/N but you have to finish grading these essays first.
They can't function properly when they go too long without you. They swing on their sparring partners too hard. Stare at the clock during lectures instead of listening. They rip textbooks and snap pens by holding them too tight.
Sometimes they have to give up and call you. If they can't go and see you for whatever reason the sound of your voice makes it better. Hearing you talk, the sound of you breathing, laughing. It helps. Calms the buzz beneath Jordan's skin. They dial your contact, glaring into space as they wait for you to pick up. As soon as you do their body relaxes.
They recognize that their behavior isn't normal. Always needing to know where you are, who you're with. Feeling sick when they don't know.
You're like a drug for Jordan. They know you're an addiction, the way you've crawled under their skin. No high on earth compares, and Jordan has fucking compared them all. They pull you into their lap, as close as they can get you and it's never enough. Nothing is ever enough.
"Please don't fucking go anywhere, yeah?" Jordan will mumble into the skin of your neck. Their grip on you is too tight, face twisted at the desperation they feel. It's not pillow talk. They're begging. Genuinely. They'd do anything to keep you this close, always.
"Of course not, Jordie." You coo back. They close their eyes and pretend the words are enough. Nothing ever is.
Nancy Downs / delusional, possessive, obsessive
As soon as Nancy wants you there's no other option for you besides her. You can either choose to go along with it or you can fight it.
Fighting against her is like fighting against the tide, though. You can tread water for awhile. Keep your head afloat, sure. But eventually you'll get tired. Nature wins. Besides, fighting against Nancy becomes unpleasant fast. Being hers is so much nicer. She's gentler that way, kinder.
You're allowed to have friends, she doesn't isolate you completely.
It's just your old friends sucked. They didn't appreciate you. Didn't look out for you. Selfish users just like everyone else. Moths are always drawn to the light, and she'll kill every moth that strays a little too close to you, before it ever gets a chance to singe itself on your warmth. It's a mercy, really. Living a life in the darkness and having one brief moment in the sun is miserable. Nancy should know. It almost drives her crazy when you're not around. If you ever left she'd want to be put out of her misery too.
Her coven, though? They're perfect. Her coven is a family. And you were the last missing piece of it.
Anything about your old life, the life before her, can be viewed as a threat at a moment's notice. Family. Friends. Memories you speak of a little too fondly. Even a hobby could do it. She wants your focus to be her. It's only fair, her only focus is you.
Even when she's not around. Even when you're completely alone you swear you can feel her eyes on you. Her magic drifting against your skin as if she was sitting right beside you.
Nancy's intensity can be scary but she makes anyone else's love seem dull in comparison.
Who else could love you like she does? Who else would die for you? Nancy wouldn't even have to think about it first. All she asks in return is for you to do the same. Live for her. Dedicate every breathe in your lungs to her.
It's not so hard, she'll lead by example.
Jennifer Check / manipulative, possessive, clingy
She couldn't give a shit about anyone else but you. Somehow you managed to sneak your way into her heart and she can't let go of you. Won't let go of you. You're the only thing that's keeping that small, soft, human part of her alive. You dragged that bit of her back from the grave she put it in, actually. So it wouldn't be fair for you to try and leave, after you made her weak again. Human again.
Her world revolves around you. Her priorities are her next meal and you. Of course she gets pissed off if you don't reciprocate her energy. Look at her, how could you ever put anything above her?
Jennifer wants you to be everything to each other, though she won't say it out loud. It shows in her actions.
You belong to her. Every version of yourself that exists in the world should belong to her. The version of you that you are when you're someone's best friend. When you're someone's partner. It's all hers. She won't let anyone else take root in your life in a role that she can fill. She'll do a better job anyways.
The enormity of her ego and the way she clings might seem at odds. She thinks she's a God walking amongst fucking cattle. But she sticks to you like a second skin. A hand always at your waist. Her lips always chasing yours, whining when you don't give in fast enough, when you don't melt like she does. Her grip iron clad when you hold hands. If you pull away too soon from a hug, from a kiss, she bites, she holds on with claws.
She coos at the marks she leaves on your skin and kisses all the scratches and bruises she leaves better. / "I'm sorry baby, you know I hate letting you go."
Carrie White / idolizer, protective, selfless
Not in her wildest dreams did Carrie think anyone could be as kind as you. People are cruel. Their first instinct is to cause hurt before they'll ever reach out a hand to help, to shield, to love.
But you're not like that at all. You're something ripped straight from a fairy-tale. The rare ones that her Mother let her read, that weren't hiding devil worship between their poetic words.
You're so patient with her. So gentle. You treat her like glass. You hold her close, and kiss her soft, and cup her face in your hands that are always so warm.
You say you love her in a breathless way, every time. Like even expressing how much you care makes you dizzy. As if she overwhelms you. She feels dizzy herself as she hangs on your every honeyed word. Clings to you every time you reach out your hands to hold her.
Carrie doesn't know if she believes in God nowadays, but if she did you'd be an angel sent straight from heaven. A gift, maybe, to make up for all the years of torment she endured from everyone she'd ever known.
She'd think you were some kind of God yourself, if you had any sort of abilities like her. But you don't. You walk around doing what's right, being good down to the marrow of your very bones just because it's who you are. You greet the world with your fists raised and you're only human, and it scares Carrie so much.
You're the last decent person alive and you'll throw yourself onto any pyre you see if it means doing what's right. Carrie loves that about you. It terrifies her.
So Carrie throws herself into the ring with you. Your sweet, gentle Carrie who you're always trying to protect. But Carrie doesn't need your protection. She's not the helpless little girl she used to be. She won't let anything hurt either of you, from now on. For the rest of your lives you'll be safe, happy. Together. Carrie would burn the world to ash if it meant not a scratch would befall you.
"You're an angel, Y/N. The most wonderful angel God ever made."
Ginger Fitzgerald / possessive, impulsive, protective,
Sometimes Ginger wishes everyone else in the world would disappear, besides the two of you. They're a hindrance.
She feels insane when she watches you. She feels her claws come out and makes herself bleed as she fights against the instinct to rip out every tongue that speaks to you, and every pair of eyes that's ever looked into yours.
She shivers when you claim her. The only time she enjoys being around other people now is when you're introducing her: "This is Ginger, my girlfriend." "This is Ginger, my partner." "This is Ginger, my best friend." "This is Ginger, my everything."
She loves being yours. Relishes in the way you say the word mine. She wants to lick the words from your mouth, the weight of your total ownership over her sweet and poisonous.
She wonders if you get the same pleasure from belonging to her. She wants you to. She wants to carve her name into your skin with her claws and have you moan at the first sharp sting of the letter G.
It's primal, the way she wants you. Beyond anything humans have words for. She leaves her scent on your skin and wants to growl when you wash it away with artificial soaps and perfumes. She sucks bruises into every inch of you that anyone else could see.
She wants you to do the same. Wants to roll onto her back and expose her neck, and have you bite so hard you draw blood.
Ginger's wanting comes with teeth. What she is demands she sinks her teeth into things, that she draws blood. Even when she loves you. Because she loves you, maybe. She needs to leave a mark on you. She needs to always be there. She needs the same from you.
Needs you to leave scars on her that she can touch when you're not around. Proof that you were there. Proof that you're coming back. You don't carve your name into things and then abandon them. When you own things you keep them.
When you're gone the world goes dim and cold. She couldn't survive in a world without you. She wouldn't even attempt it. What would be the fucking point?
"We're a pair. We belong to each other. Always, yeah?"

I don't know which is funnier... the concept of the receptionist and the perv being the Martin and Jon we know, who got shoved into this world, and they found their counterparts missing, so they assumed their identities and started doing literal role-play therapy... this world's Martin and Jon got sucked into the computers. OR, the receptionist and the perv are the Martin and Jon who are naturally in this world, they have no concept of spooky things, and are instead struggling with a meet-cute that also has problems of professionalism/dating somebody who is seeing the therapist you work for, meanwhile the Martin and Jon we know really did get shoved into the Windows 95 Cyberspace Matrix
this is actually my understanding of the whole thing (assuming that the cameo in ep 17 is indeed a cameo. Personally, I think this IS a jmart cameo but not a plot relevant one)
It's established that Darrien came from another dimension, meaning the jmart that he encountered are not from the tmp verse. He also doesn't come from the tma verse because the Jon and Martin from his dimension are presumably living in Oxford and have different jobs. What really bugs me is that Darrien gave a statement sometime before 1999 (before the Institute burned down) so he must have also traveled a few years backwards since jmart would still have been in their tweens/early teens at this time.
#tmagp theory#even if you argue that Martin must have also worked as a therapy assistant before working at the institute library#it still kinda doesnt make sense to me since he mentioned that he couldn't find a good job until he started lying about his age#and that he worked for almost a decade at the institute#meaning he was at least 19 when he started at the institute#though I guess he could have also worked as a receptionist as a teenager (and was still lying about his age)#and it would match with Jon being there since he studied at Oxford uni#though I still think they come from an unrelated dimension#Occam's razor and all that#anyway I love that Jon and Martin in any dimension always end up being connected in some way#like Popuko and Pipimi

I think this point got a little lost amid the general fandom glee at Dominique and Vanitas bonding (or at least it did for me), but looking back at chapter 60, the implications that this scene has for Vanitas are fucking wild.
It's not the only aspect of her relationship with him, but a huge cornerstone of Dominique's feelings toward Noé is the fact of her absolutely massive crush on him. Like, as much as she's venting about how he frustrates her, Dominique's thoughts on Noé in this scene are the thoughts of a woman that is canonically in love with him. And Vanitas apparently thinks/feels the exact same way.
As their shared venting reaches its fever pitch, Vanitas and Dominique both reach the exact same ending point. Noé is stubborn and overly straightforward and unrelenting, and both of them feel helpless against it. And they say as much!
They say as much, and then they both cut themselves off and flinch away in the exact same way, as though they've said too much. They've revealed some deeper truth about their feelings and the ways that Noé's force of personality affects them.
Dominique reacts this way presumably because she touched a little too close to the reality of her romantic feelings for him. The thing cut off at the end of "Since he's like that, Iâ" is some expression of the depths of her incredible fondness for and attraction to him. And Vanitas apparently feels the exact same way as Dominique. He expresses almost the exact same outward sentiment and catches himself and flinches in the exact same way. So if Dominique is speaking here in (albeit frustrated) love, then what emotions is Vanitas speaking from?
#we all know how much Mochijun loves to make meaning with parallels#so 'Vanitas feels the exact same way about Noé as the woman that's in love with him' cannot be a coincidence lmao#it certainly must mean *something* about him ;3#And while I know I'm not the first person to have this thought#amid all the friendship/solidarity glee. I think the gay little implications deserve extra emphasis too <3#vnc#vanitas no carte#the case study of vanitas#vanoé#vanitas#vnc vanitas#the vanoé agenda#vanitas my beloved#english major hours#long post#ID in alt text#Noé arqueueviste

So I remember talking to this person and she was basically saying âIf it takes Bakugou dying to redeem himself then heâs done too much.â But it doesnât take Bakugou dying this is just who he is⊠am I wrong?
i wouldn't take any bakugou anti's argument to heart. the fact of the matter is that bakugou was a childhood bully who grew up and bettered himself. it's like, one of the tamest, most normal redemption arcs ever. he didn't even have to die to complete it, he's just that devoted to deku. which in itself should say enough about his development
#'bakugou being a dipshit asshole bully from ages 5 to 14' is not nearly 'doing too much'. and certainly does not deserve death#the truth of the matter is. people overhate bkg bc his 'crimes' are the most tangible and relatable to the audience#objectively speaking there are way more characters in mha who have done far worse than him#but most people can't relate to more heinous crimes - they probably haven't lost someone to a mass murderer for example#but they CAN relate to knowing a dumb idiot kid from middle school#a lot of bkg antis project onto deku so it's likely due to a personal grudge they have against their own childhood bully#that they haven't gotten over and so they can't accept deku getting over it. bc they can't accept deku not acting like them#ppl just really don't like seeing bkdk as characters with their own arcs. to them bkdk are self-inserts#the self-insertification of midoriya izuku by dudebros must be studied... the revenge fantasies they cook up... it's fascinating#anyway i wouldn't worry about it too much#asks for becki

Connected Timelines Ramble: Backing off my previous 'Geno has an ex' headcanon, what if Dust happened to be that ex? I can see them bonding over shared trauma: surviving a genocided timeline and losing their brothers.
So when Dust eventually came clean about his past, that he genocided his own timeline [and others under Nightmare], even if he felt guilty and wanted to change, the heartbreak and betrayal Geno would have felt was devastating.
Even if it was originally done to stop Chara, the fact that he continued to genocide other timelines was despicable in Geno's eyes. Dust became the very same person he hated, and all Geno could see when looking at Dust was her. He broke it off instantly and Dust respected his decision and never contacted him again.
Given that Nightmare and Dream have now been at peace for decades, they're often invited to the same get togethers. They've never told anyone else about their previous relationship, so they act all awkward around each other and nobody knows why.
#Aavarambles#dustyscarf#Geno x Dust#geno x reaper#afterdeath#geno sans#reaper sans#dust sans#murder sans#utmv#sans#I want to lock them in a room and study their interactions#These two would not work whatsoever but that's what makes it fun#Geno's certainly being a slight hypocrite here as technically tried to do the exact same thing to his timeline in a different way#But he wouldn't see his method as murder as he would Dust's. If anything he'd probably see it as an act of mercy#Even if Dust accomplished his goal to stop the resets and genocides Geno probably would believe there would have been a better way#[Even if his wasn't any better. Plus the Nightmare stuff was just wrong in all accounts which made the situation so so much worse for him.]#Geno won't admit it but now he does have a level of understanding for Dust and maybe even a bit of guilt for how they ended#[More specifically how trapped Dust must have felt under Nightmare initially constantly continuing the cycle with no foreseeable escape]#(even if they're very close now)#But Geno can't get past that initial feeling of betrayal and horror to talk to him again to just be friends#they're absolute worsties#sans au#aftertale sans#dusttale#CTLorebook

Furred Attempts at One's Self
#my art#my ocs#furry art#furry oc#AKA FURSONAS RAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH#I've been finally meaning to rip that bandage off and revist my hyena-sona and as you can see there's no time like the present!!#It's actually been a really refreshing and overall happy process so far and I'm happy to share these small bits of it hehe#This all came from the fact I'm getting into the habit of animal studies again and I felt like this would be a nice test of my knowledge#I'm still forever learning but I think I'm on the right path of capturing the face structure of a hyena and in turn other canviorous mammal#My furrysonas are also vessels to give myself bodymods I'm way to scare to get to I just keep winning hehe#Perhaps I'll look just as cool as this...so day#Also fun fact: The reason I choose a capybara as a sona is because I was a capybara in my friend's Cult of the Lamb playthrough hehe#Ever since I've been connected to the large wet rodents; and I wouldn't have it any other way#THAT AND THERE'S BARELY ANY REFERENCES FOR CAPYBARA PAWS HELP ME#I must make them accurate and yet the limits of search engines pain me#That and hyena noses are tricky to understand but I shall digress

throws up my hands in mock resignation but also a hint of frustration Okay Valentino is a cool villain I guess
He's like. Genuinely unsettling. Wish the show struck a better balance with his character sometimes (like sometimes when he's onscreen I have to skip over because I feel queasy and sometimes he's so unsubtle he feels more like a prop than a guy who's going to be a Huge Deal in s2)
#why yes I have been reading some phenomenal fanfiction lately#a lesser me would be agonising over my inability to ever come close to matching the#masterfully characterised works of these talented WORD WEAVERS#but envy is a spoilt housepest and we must spend less time unleashing it upon new targets#instead let's talk about how these fics discovered its possible??#to write Val as not only a 3dimensional character but a deeply horrifying person to WITNESS#to depict how he thinks and what he wants and what he contributes to the people around him#while acknowledging that his actions are supremely messed up#also without dumbing whatever the fuck is wrong with him down to just 'can't do math and needs a sippycup'#those jokes are funny but he's also a dealmaker#he doesn't need to be studied under a microscope! he needs to be gawked at in abject horror! Oh the Potential!#he needs to tell us more about how depraved hell can be by linking us to a portion of the culture full of the dead who cannot die!#anyways. rant over. uh I think I like valentino now? in the same way I like the old man villain from hunchback of notre dame.#just. (gestures) what is this dude. ew. oh my god#my post#personal stuff#hazbin hotel#hazbin hotel valentino#is this anything#again I am entrenching on dangerous territory of 'expectations for this media I consume'#he really doesn't need to be written all shakespearean-like#too attached mayhaps#delete later#honestly worried that if the show does reveal his backstory or whatever it'll try to paint him in a sympathetic light#and then the online arguments will be a headache for a month#villain with tragic backstory â sympathetic villain

can i speak. i think that eddie Catholic Guilt is hard to believe and dare i say. not real. for many reasons. one of them being Not All Latinos Have Catholic Guilt especially not in the way that white catholics conceptualize it. and TO ME itâs a bit of a cop out . and i donât think we should believe eddie when he says thatâs the reason for literally anything bc itâs a really convenient excuse for being insane and repressed but i just donât think itâs true . and i think that something much more nuanced is afoot (aka a complex racial identity and relationship with expectation).
to me he was really like. barely raised catholic tbh. he was raised AROUND folk/cultural catholicism which ofc impacted how he was raised and his perspective. but this kind of catholicism is so different from institutionalized (and white) catholicism it's difficult to even compare the two. and i honestly donât think that the catholicism is the main problem. like his parents just donât strike me as being devout in the way that imparts guilt onto their children (they have fun OTHER ways to do this). i think they are traditional and crucially. catholic when itâs convenient and when it allows them an avenue for control (biggest example here is eddie getting pressured into getting married to the girl he impregnated as a teenager.) but to me. this stemmed from complex cultural traditions and beliefs. which catholicism is an easy simple explanation for . but isnât really the root of the problem. it's a part of it ofc but honestly i think things are often ascribed solely to catholicism bc catholic guilt is a widely applicable perspective when it honestly doesn't make much sense. like i think that eddie being a mixed race mexican-american has more to do with anything than catholicism does. and again. these things are interwoven. but not in a way that it makes sense to blame capital c Catholicism for things where culture (and cultural catholicism) makes way more sense as an explanation
like ik that eddie talks about how he was raised going to mass every sunday etc etc. but even the way he says that he just... stopped... says so much. like the fact that he was even allowed to do that tells me that his parents honestly never really cared that much about that kind of devotion. and the way he talks about it really makes it sound to me like he was one of those kids that never really bought into it at all and so the institutionalized teachings of the church never really got to him. what did get to him however is the folk catholicism/mexican-american teachings of Right and Wrong (aka you get somebody pregnant you commit to them. you feel emotions you tamp them down in order to protect others etc.) and this is not necessarily Catholicism in it's classic conception.
i have no idea if this makes sense and it is really hard to explain how this interplay works if you haven't grown up in it but basically.... hegemonic constructions of catholicism are vastly different from the kind of "catholicism" that i think eddie was raised in. and bc of that i think that "catholic guilt" is a weak explanation for eddie's perspective and best and just. inaccurate at worst. and we should NEVERRRR listen to eddie when he gives too clean of an explanation for his repression. that man is a liar
#source: i SAY SO#really happy to be putting my mexican american studies major to work in this way#i just think that people often ascribe hegemonic institutionalized and WHITE views on catholicism to characters of color#and it just..... doesn't work#the complexities of mexican american catholicism are far deeper than the shallow view of 'catholic guilt' could ever begin to uncover#and i think that eddie's mexicanidad gets left out sooooo often when like. to me. you can't talk about eddie without it#and that it's a far more accurate and true to character way to discuss him than anything solely about religion#but then again i'm a mixed race mexican american too and think that me and eddie are soul bonded bc of this#so that's MY bias. but i do genuinely think that discussions around characters of color get flattened so white people can understand them#and i just think you can't ignore his identity. in ANY conversation but especially not this one#911 abc#911#eddie diaz#and you know what yeah i do think that the whole marisol nun storyline was annoying.#like correct me if i'm wrong but has eddie literally ever mentioned catholicism with any sort of seriousness before that???#to me it kinda came off as them running out of ideas and being like oh eddie's mexican and so he must be catholic and have catholic guilt.#which is just..... boring and overdone work tbh. but maybe i'm wrong. but anyways i just don't think it's true#and it's just a convenient explanation for not wanting to have sex with a woman where the real explanation (being gay and being mexican) is#far more accurate

just finished the second season of black sails and i gotta say i understand why it makes queers go feral
#iâm frothing at the mouth#black sails#i watched the first season yesterday and didnât really enjoy it much#the pacing is really weird the characterisation was shallow at best and the whole thing stank of game of thrones levels of forced edgyness#but man the second season slapped so hard full 180 turnaround#the flashbacks were expertly crafted all major characters have relatable motives and they pull through ruthlessly#their fatal flaws are right there and like a greek tradgedy it all happens exactly how it must#in revealing itâs nature as a character study of flint and of what broke him so utterly the pacing actually becomes so poignant and perfect#with each new bit of information weâre given we understand his urgency his ruthlessness his unwavering calm hatred#heâs turned himself into a proper fucking monster and itâs tragic because it could only have ever gone this way#thereâs no way out and the show being a prequel we know he lives we know he canât win#actually doomed by the narrative in the worst/best way#but by god i just want his to set the world aflame

my energy has been low lately so i've stuck to just liveblogging chapter releases, but i was thinking earlier about why lore olympus really nettles me and it's truly indicative of a wider issue.
it's disappointing that a major ancient religion that is still practiced by some people today has been reduced to a caricature of itself, and i say this knowing that there are thousands of reinterpretations of the greek myths, there will always be a new opinion or retelling of them. retelling the myth of hades and persephone isn't necessarily the issue, so much as the constant and dripping disdain to the cultural roots. we don't need to be greek to appreciate the story, but why remove everything greek from it? why westernize every aspect and remove ties to the cultural roots? why whitewash everything from a myth thousands of years old?
part of the reason these myths continue to resonate with us is because the themes are still relevant today. the loss of a child, the struggle against impossible forces, the (often patriarchal) powers against you, a mothers love. these stories hold power, they gave hope and inspiration, they created meaning and connection, and they were vital to the people who lived in that time, in that place. they will resonate with us for many years still, but stripping the roots and core of it out only makes it a hollow, shallow imitation. it's reality tv with neon colours, no love or heritage present; it's cold and shiny and plastic, and it insults what it claims to portray.
#anti lo#anti lore olympus#i have more thoughts actually but putting them down coherently? difficult#also im procrastinating doing the dishes lmao#anyways i can remember in undergrad studying the greek myths and early playwrights#and the prof was talking abt the trojan war#and the way he explained was that the power of this myth was that it vastly exceeded greece#it reached further beyond the borders it stretched so far that the entire world knew of achilles and paris and hector#everyone knew helen everyone knew priam#when priam kisses achilles hands and says#for I have steeled myself as no man yet has ever steeled himself before me#and have raised to my lips the hand of him who slew my son#??? like? the raw grief and power of that???#and it is that grief of a father to the killer of his son that resonates with us still in modern times#but their home was still the ancient world in the dust and sea of greece and troy#they wore clothing and ate food and drank wine that was theirs#and when we strip it away we remove the core of the story#a father in troy whose son stole a greek bride and must watch as his family and people are destroyed#anyways idk what these tags are i am so sorry mobile users

Two things that are simultaneously true:
1. Gender and sexuality are complex and can be fluid. An identity isn't always fixed and can change with time for many reasons
2. It is not acceptable to force others to change their gender or sexuality and the mantra that they (queer people) can change if they only "try hard" is both cruel and homophobia and/or transphobia
#queer#lgbt#lgbtq#homophobia#homophobia tw#transphobia#transphobia tw#when i first came out as trans i was told this story about how my dad's therapist had a lesbian client with homophobic parents...#...how her parents were *so close* to coming to terms with her lesbianism and she got a boyfriend and look! she changed so why couldn't you!#the thing that was so fucked up about that story was that it was presented as 'oh you don't know who you are! you'll change!'#and i was never listened to until i went 'so far' in my transness that changing was impractical...#...it never enforced that my sense of self is dynamic but that who i was is something to be 'fixed'#i think a lot of queer people are hostile to the idea of gender/sexuality fluidity because it's framed in such a way...#...that tells them that their queerness will eventually be 'cured'...#...so any notion of 'identity can be fluid' reads like 'your queerness is a flaw and a horrible thing'...#...but that's not the solution to people whose identity has fluctuated and changed...#...it isn't their fault that queerphobes latched onto them as 'case studies' to prove that queerness is curable...#...a queerphobe would latch onto ANYTHING in order to prevent you from living...#...'oh lesbians married men in order to protect themselves? why can't you do that?! why must you insist on marrying a woman?!'...#...that's an example of how they'd just latch onto something else if 'identity is dynamic' didn't exist#the context of 'identity is dynamic' is often one of the most important factors in if it is meant as queer-afirming or not ime
