Here's one of my inspo pages for the mix of logan angst animatics I'm currently working on (the lyrics are all from different songs)
I'm using a lot of different animation styles and experimenting with some animation tricks I've never tried before in quite a few of these animatics, so it's been helpful to kind of have a quick reference on hand, which is what this is sort of meant to be
I'm hoping I can get the first of many animatics out this month, so you all can finally start to see what I've been up to all this time!
#if you can guess the songs from these lyrics youre a genius and congrats#i mean my playlist is public so its not like people couldnt figure out what songs im animating to if they really wanted to know#logan sanders#logan angst#sanders sides#orb cant draw#doodles#i mostly just wanted to post this to prove that i AM in fact regularly making more logan angst content#i just havent been able to post it yet

Buck & Eddie:Ā Two emergencies in 7x1 illustrated Buck hasnāt dealt with his death
It appears the first call with the older onery couple and the second call with the burned car relate to Buckās death and they seem to illustrate how heās not over it yet.
These are my OBSERVATIONS and INTERPRETATIONS of two scenes included in 7x1 and other peopleās may differ since everyone consumes and interprets media differently.
Now back to the regularly scheduled programā¦
Before I delve into this, I have to mention that I donāt think Buckās over his death yet.Ā Does he want to be?Ā Yes but the fact is he hasnāt dealt with it and the first two emergencies in 7x1 alluded to it.
For those who read my post about my frustrations surrounding the fact that TM (showrunner) said Buck was tired of talking about death and he just wants to be happy (linked here), Iāve elaborated on why I believe he hasnāt dealt with it yet in this post.Ā I found two things in the first episode of season 7 that seems to prove my theory associated with the way TM might be saving Buck dealing with the fact that he ACTUALLY DIED in season 6 until after 7x6 airs since thatās Maddieās wedding and the Buckley parents are scheduled to return.
I live blogged during last weekās episode but while doing so, I noticed so many things that I wanted to expound on but I wanted to analyze them first to see how they connected to previous seasons and episodes.Ā I watched the episode three more times for multiple reasons but mainly because I wanted to make sure I understood all the callbacks, hindsight, metaphors and foreshadowing.Ā This post will not include everything I found because itās a lot but I will do several posts to cover the others.
While Buck and Eddie were in the locker room talking, Buck said all ND wanted to talk about was his death, it got boring after a while and he didnāt know why he thought dating a dEaTh DoUlA was a good idea.Ā Eddie responded, āWell you had just diedā but then he said something else that caused me to pause because it was JARRING.Ā He said, āWelcome back to the land of the living Buck, you were missedā (more on this topic below).
Be clear, IāM GLAD SHEāS GONE AND I WISH THE SHOW WOULDNāT HAVE SHOVED THEM INTO A RELATIONSHIP. Ā If she would have helped Buck with the fact that he died like she was supposed to then all that screen time spent on whatever they had in season 6 could have been used to SHOW how he arrived at a point of just wanting to be happy at the beginning of season 7 but the audience didnāt get that.Ā The truth is, if he wasnāt opening up and talking about it (itās likely he wasnāt since heās not in therapy) then of course it got boring for him because he was doing what he always does, avoiding dealing with his own issues by trying to fix everyone elseās.Ā Reminder, heās the guy who likes to fix things except for when itās his own problems.Ā He avoids them the same way he avoided moving on from AC in season 2 which equates to the way he avoided talking to TK for a week so he wouldnāt have to break up with her at the end of season 5.
Also, Buck hides his true feelings and he said so in 4x2 when he was in a FaceTime therapy session with Dr. Copeland.Ā He said, āHow I hide my true feelings from othersā.Ā Additionally, in 6x15, he told Eddie, āThe truth is I am different.Ā But I feel like I have to be the same old Buck, mostly for the sake of everyone else.āĀ These two statements he made along with the way he avoids things further substantiates the fact that Buck is hiding the way he really feels about his death and heās pretending to be happy.
IMO, the first and second emergencies in 7x1 the 118 was dispatched to appeared to show where Buck is mentally.Ā Iāll start with the chair and the car metaphors in this post because theyāre the ones I couldn't forget when I watched live. Ā After my initial viewing, I kept wondering why the man in the first call was not only sitting in a reclining chair but he was ALSO TRAPPED IN IT.Ā Additionally, I couldnāt get over the fact that Buck and Eddie were the only two on the scene of the second call with that burned car.Ā Not only was the car destroyed from the inside out; it was the question the owner of the car asked Buck that I couldnāt forget.Ā The chair and the car are the two items Iāll expound on in this post to illustrate how they relate to Buckās death and Iāll include my opinion to explain how they might relate to what could possibly happen with him before the end of the season.
Call #1
Do these two GIFs look familiar?
They should because Buck and Abe are both sitting in arm chairs that are suited for only one person and they mirror the way Buckās life could end up if he lives it the way other people want him to instead of him living it the way he wants to. The darker color in the suede of Abe's chair is similar to the color of Buck's leather chair. Also, Abe's chair is outdated but he still uses it so he doesn't have to deal with Edna.
In 7x1, Abe just wanted to be at EASE with his life while sitting and relaxing in his chair but his wife wouldnāt let him.Ā He was trying to watch TV but she kept knit picking at everything he was doing.Ā She was doing the whole āpay attention to me or else Iāll force you to do it and make your life a living hell while I'm at itā dynamic and it was annoying AF. They had been married for more than 30 years and they never had any kids but they were also miserable.Ā They hated each other and it appears they were in a marriage neither of them wanted to be in.Ā After the 118 arrived, Edna said, āHe loves that chair more than the loves meā.
Furthermore, they had a couch in their home but it was just sitting there which means ABE REFUSED TO SIT ON IT WITH HER.Ā He told Chimney the fighter jet should have put one of them out of their misery.
Was the depiction of their relationship reminiscent of one from season 5?Ā YES!
In 6x1, Bobby told Buck he needed to take inventory of his life so he could be at EASE and when he did, he sat in his chair but at the time, since he had already given TK the boot, he didnāt have to worry about her doing to him what Edna spent 30 years doing to Abe. Ā If Buck would have kept on clinging to TK, then that could have been his fate.Ā TK was shallow and wanted all the attention on herself the same way Edna did and she proved it with her raggedy and immoral journalistic behaviors.Ā She had planned to throw the 118 under the bus in 2x6 but she didnāt get the chance to do it then since the LAFDās lawyers were more powerful than her news stationās lawyers.Ā However, she jumped at the opportunity to do it a second time in season 5 when she didnāt have anyone to stop her.
Abeās relationship with Edna gave the audience a future flash forward of where Buck could end up if he follows what some GA viewers want him to do.Ā Before he died, in 6x2, Lev told him his life went by in a blur and it was the reason he went to the happiness convention with his friends.Ā Abe chose the life he felt like he was expected to live with a wife and a house too but based on the way he was acting; it clearly wasnāt something he would have chosen for himself.Ā And he was so far from being at ease that he was miserable.
Additionally, Edna was a combination of every woman Buckās ever dated.Ā She was older and had red hair which coincides with AC.Ā She didnāt care about what Abe was doing because she wanted him to do what she wanted which coincides with TK and also, she had red hair.Ā She was frustrated with him and what he was doing which correlates her to AM, reminder she didnāt like Buckās job which is the reason why she left him with a cast on his leg after the ladder truck explosion.Ā Finally, ND was fascinated by Buckās death the same way Edna was fascinated by the fact that Abe might not be ok.Ā She cared more about the chair being out of her house than she did about his well-being. Ā Their lives were miserable but instead of ending their relationship, they clung to each other just like Buck and TK did in season 5.
IMO, the couple represented the life Buck would have if he follows the path some people in the GA want him to.Ā Believe it or not, there are still viewers who want everyone to do things the way they did them, i.e., get married, have a house, have kids and work a job until they die and instead of wanting Buck and Eddie to experience the true love they clearly share to flourish and grow, for WhAtEvEr ReAsOnS, theyād rather they stay in relationships with the women who wronged, abandoned and ignored them. It appears they're choosing not to see how much they love each other and they would prefer them to āstick it outā in relationships with people who clearly make them miserable.
Reminder, in 6x15, Buck told Eddie, āI still don't know how to act. I am different but I feel like I have to be the same old Buck, mostly for the sake of everyone elseā and Iāve always believed he was saying that directly to the audience.Ā It was aimed at the women who wanted him to keep waiting around for AC or those who wanted him to stay with AM because she had an adult conversation with him before she dipped.Ā Then there are those who wanted him to stay with TK because she was career driven (thatās a bunch of BS because journalists can be driven in their careers without being immoral, vindictive, callous or using people to get popular by writing a crappy book) and then there are those who wanted Buck to stay with ND (I know this may be hard to believe but there are posts that indicate āhe knew what he was getting into when he dated herā š).Ā Like seriously, they wanted him to stay with her because in their minds, she was perfect for him but havenāt all his girlfriendās stans said that?Ā They have and the question they should ask themselves is, why havenāt any of Buckās relationships worked (related post linked here and here) instead of acting like the women who treated him poorly deserved to stick around.Ā Also, Buckās a ticking time bomb waiting to explode the same way that dummy bomb would have if it had gone off. However, just like on the call, Eddieās going to be there for Buck but itās unclear when or if heāll be able to stop it from happening.
Call #2
The burned car was still smoldering but it was also hollow and charred to the core.Ā IMO, it was included as a call that only Buck and Eddie were allowed to extinguish as a way to illustrate how itāll take both of them working together to repair Buckās charred, burned and smoldering insides.Ā Reminder, in 6x10 he was struck by lightning and he died which means heās probably feeling hollow on the inside and I think he feels all cored out just like that burned car.Ā While they were in the locker room, it appeared he was ready to talk to Eddie about the way he feels which is the reason why he may have invited him to go out so they could be alone and he could speak freely. Ā But he backed off when Eddie mentioned āBig dateā and reminder, Buck was the one who assumed Eddie had a date with M (more on this below) but Eddie was talking about Chris' date.
After Eddie left, the audience didnāt see Buck leave so apparently, he went somewhere but who knows where since he wasnāt shown again until the next time they were at work.Ā If they had gone together, it would have been a date but IIRC, other than the poker date in 6x13, every time Buck and Eddie hung out in the past, they were at Buck's loft or at Eddieās house.Ā Additionally, Eddie admitted heās a nester which means heās ok with them staying in like they did when they played video games and drank beer in the past.Ā The one time they went to a bar together in 3x11 doesnāt count as a date because the rest of the 118 was there with Albert.Ā I think Buck was extending an olive branch and trying to let Eddie know he needed him the same way Eddie tried to let Buck know he needed him before his breakdown in season 5 but when he finally broke, Chris called Buck and he came running.Ā Iāve always wondered how it will play out if Buck breaks down while heās alone in the loft and I have an idea of how it will happen but I havenāt decided if Iāll post it on here.
When they were done, the car owner asked, āIs it a total loss or isā¦?ā and Buck responded, āUhā¦ not total.ā then he smiled, held up a pine tree fragranced car freshener, which is symbolic of an actual family tree because of the ROOTS, then said, āHave a good dayā. Ā Buckās biological family roots are about to come into question AGAIN (related post about the Buckley parents other deep dark family secret linked here) and guess what?Ā When they do, itās going to rock him to his CORE and the only person whoāll be able to help him is EDDIE!Ā Buckās not a total loss as the phrasing in the scene alluded to and Eddie KNOWS that! However, Buck will need for Eddie to tell him that over and over again until he starts to believe it.
I think the confrontation OS mentioned thatās supposed to occur between Buck and Eddie will be in relation to Buckās self-worth and how he views himself. Ā There are a lot of people who want to move on from the fact that Buck died and rightfully so since he along with the viewers had to endure an entire season of him not dealing with his issues.Ā But the truth is 9-1-1 hasnāt moved on from it either and even though TM said Buckās ready to find happiness, the fact still remains that Buck hasnāt dealt with the reality of his own death.
IMO, he will find happiness when heās in a relationship with Eddie and reminder, Eddieās the one whoās always trying to encourage him.Ā He did it in 7x1 too after Buck said, āYou donāt want him to end up like meā but Eddie was quick to respond, āYou didnāt end up like youā. Ā It was soft, pure and so full of love that it took Buckās breath away.
Now be honest, would AC, AM, TK or ND have said that to him?Ā The answer NO!
I stand by the things I included in a previous post because Connor and Kameron are supposed to return some time around or after 7x5 and thatās when I believe the proverbial $hit regarding Buckās self-worth will hit the fan since itās likely theyāll have some devastating news for him about the baby.Ā Then the Buckley parents are set to return for Maddieās wedding and nothing good ever happens to Buck when they do so it's looking like a trifecta of bad news for Buck (related post linked here).
Other than the time he spent talking to Chris at Eddieās house, Buck was only shown at work during the entire episode and I believe that was on purpose.Ā Itās unclear when heāll be shown in the loft again but when he is, that could be when the audience sees heās not doing as well as heās trying to get people to believe.Ā Itās likely the way he really feels about the fact that he died will be shown and if he feels like that burned carā¦ itās not going to be pretty or pleasant.
Eddie KNOWS Buckās not doing well but heās not going to push him to talk just like he didnāt in 6x12.Ā Heās going to wait until Buckās ready then, heāll have the heart-to-heart talk with him the same way he always does.Ā Reminder, Eddie takes care of Buck (post linked here) while Buck listens to Eddie and makes him talk (post linked here).Ā In 7x1, Eddie said, āWelcome back to the land of the living Buck.Ā You were missedā and I kept wondering why he phrased it like that but then I realized itās because he knows Buck hasnāt confronted the fact that he died but heās not going to push him, heāll wait until he says heās ready then Eddie will be there to take care of him like he always is.
Make no mistake, Buckās happiness is with Eddie but he thinks heās off limits since heās ādatingā M (please understand I donāt think Eddie and M are "seriously dating" and that's based on RG's responses about the character of M in his interviews. Iāll do a separate post on it explaining how the show and the actors have explained it in so many words).
TM used two BOLD contrasts in the first episode, a chair and a car, to show Buck has to deal with his death and itās likely he'll continue to include these types of metaphors until he does.Ā Also, TM's comment about Buck being tired of talking about dying seems to be a bait and switch and he's trying to get viewers to look away from Buckās death so theyāll forget heās been hiding it, then theyāll be blindsided by it when he finally breaks. Reminder, after the Madney wedding, there will still be 4 episodes left in the season and what exactly will TM fill them withš§?
Will Buck finally deal with the fact that he died this season since he didn't in season 6?Ā Who knows but based on the chair and the car, it appears his process of dealing with it has just begun.

hope this doesn't come off as rude, but do you condone the usage of ai art? because I noticed you use ai art for quite a few of your post headers ^^;
No worries, it's a reasonable question, although a rather complex one! There are multiple layers that I would like to go through when answering you.
Do I condone the use of AI as a replacement for actual art? Obviously not. I enjoy drawing, and I enjoy collecting art. This won't change regardless of technology. The reality, however, is that generative AI will continue to develop, whether we like it or not. So, you know, instead of denying its existence, I would prefer to openly discuss it and have it regulated by laws and ethical conducts. For example, laws that would protect artists from being laid off in favor of one single AI engineer. Or laws that would limit the profit companies can make using undisclosed AI. Basically, making sure that this new technology serves the people instead or rendering them useless.
Do I condone the use of AI for individual use? Depends. My opinion is that non-profit, entertainment purposes are not the root of the problem. Someone generating a funny image of a cat is not the equivalent of someone generating hundreds of images a day. Those terrible environmental statistics you see online are mostly targeted at this kind of business usage. If you were to go on Instagram, for example, you would find a lot of accounts who publish vast amounts of AI works, often omitting this fact. Some sell merch, advice, or - if they are honest about their methods - courses and books on prompts and AI imagery. It's an actual thing. Does it take visibility away from actual artists? Absolutely. Even worse, it leads to a lot of doubt, where artists must prove themselves against accusatory claims. Again, I believe the solution is not to ignore progress or demand it stops, but to find concrete measures and implement them.
I use AI images for story headers, strictly for decorative purposes. If I want to express something visually, I will draw it myself. I do not have the time nor resources to draw every single picture I want to use on my hobby blog. Whoever disagrees with it is free to pay me a full employee salary. Mind you, on that note, I've seen a lot of people mentioning Pinterest and similar as open sources for pictures. They are not free repositories to just grab whatever you want. That photograph of a foggy forest was taken by someone and requires crediting. That unspecified manga panel was drawn by someone and requires crediting. 90% of the images I see here have no source or credit. I find it terribly hypocritical to parade as a supporter of human arts while conveniently ignoring every case where said human art is stolen, modified or uncredited.
Lastly, do I condone the use of AI by artists? This is an interesting topic, and a recent case immediately comes to mind: a well-established artist I've been following for over a decade has alluded to potentially training AI to replicate their art in the future. It's their way of easing their workload. Is it any different from comic artists using filtered photos to skip drawing backgrounds, for example? Is it any different from commission artists pre-drawing body parts and objects as brushes and stamps, so they can skip a lot of the drawing process? I am not a professional artist, nor do I require the use of this sort of assistance, but I cannot help but wonder: how many of the individuals who had a meltdown over this suggestion have actually paid or tipped an artist in their life? How many of them regularly call out stolen content? How many are mindful about the content they share/distribute/save, making sure it involves given permissions and fulfills ethical standards? I'm not necessarily calling people out; rather, I'm saying that the outrage is misdirected and untargeted.
I don't have a concrete conclusion to the last paragraph. It's a novel dilemma, a gray area with a lot of factors involved. At least to me. I wanted to include it in the conversation to show that generative AI and its implications are rapidly changing and expanding, so it's difficult to encapsulate it all in one definite opinion. All I can tell you is that my appreciation for human art has not changed, and I will continue to support it. :)

New Pinned Post
I'm no longer in need of back up money, so commissions aren't needed, but if you ever want to commission me, I'm usually open. I also occasionally put some of my art on redbubble.
Please read Boundaries before sending an ask.
Anyways, hello everyone, I am too lazy to find my old crack DID pride flag (it'll come up some day and I'll link it here), and I figured I should slowly update some of my intro stuff for this blog after not touching it for a fucking minute.
You can call me Feathers - we're a 21+ year old Buddhist mixed-AAPI intersex nonbinary system (they/them) that is at late stage recovery and often defaults to a fully fused state (though we freely play with our multiple identity and operate as independent parts whenever it works best for us; often for trauma processing or navigating complex life decisions). As a result, we don't always tag which part is out and sometimes tag "alter: fei" or, more recently, "feathers speaks" Sometimes we might tag which part is dominant, but it's all whatever.
For the most recent discussion on Buddhism, Full Integration, Final Fusion, and Functional Multiplicity written by our fully fused self before our recent decision to swap back to Functional Mulitiplicity, feel free to read here; it's long but a pretty cohesive understanding of our current experiences with our DID and shit. (5/15/2024)
We're diagnosed with DID, C-PTSD, autism, trichotillomania, OCD, and honestly a number of things cause complex-trauma life. We have some physical disabilities but nothing that typically causes too much obstruction in our day to day.
As a result of our state of recovery, we really don't have a set headcount, however we were / are polyfragmented.
Some fun things about us and things you'll see on this blog:
Due to the fact that DID is no longer really that much of an interesting topic / impactful part of our life, we only occasionally post about DID and our experiences with it. While it was the original purpose of this blog, as a depiction of our healing journey and what healing with DID can look like, we decided we would rather just post about whatever sparks joy in our life. As a result, rather than much content on DID, you will likely see things relating to the topics below. PLEASE feel free to send asks about ANY of the topics below. We love to talk about things.
We are Buddhist (primarily non-theistic; mostly non-denominational, largely Zen) and we really enjoy it. We particularly like the philosophy and do practice it. Admittedly, we identify as being god awful Buddhists, but thats okay cause its part of the process.
We love research and plan to go into it when our ducks are better aligned. We particularly love research and literature around developmental psychopathology, trauma, dissociation, animal behavior, and the more abstract neuroscience topics (particularly consciousness research). We likely won't post much on it as overtly here because I don't enjoy talking science on tumblr much because most people (in my experience) don't actually want to talk about research as much as they want to prove their point.
We are avid bird watchers and regularly document / photograph the birds we see and upload them to ebird. We really enjoy it as an activity and social engagement and really love sharing that joy and knowledge with people. We actually have a minor in Avian Science and have been tested on North American ID skills. We also know more than we need to about chicken biology as a result of said degree. If you want to send anything about birds, bird watching, or asking for a bird ID (even non North American), they are ALWAYS welcome and you are ALWAYS allowed to tag us in any bird related content.
We do a lot of creative work and have dedicated ourselves (without writing partner) to a large story world project that we've been writing for over a decade now. We actually specifically started grinding our art skills in 2020 specifically just to help build that world up. Art is one of our largest self soothing coping mechanisms. We are going to turn that story world into a comic and a TTRPG system so please check out @thedevaaffliction.
Overall, we really just like thinking about a lot of topics and things as part of both our interest in research, philosophy, and as part of our Buddhist practice. We don't really find an interest in arguing discourse / syscourse because we really dislike and see very little benefit in debate. That said, we love to discuss experiences, thoughts, feelings and perspectives on complex topics and as long as the intent is to discuss and share rather than to "win" or "prove", we really enjoy that sort of enrichment in our life so we do welcome it. That said, we withhold the right to deem any conversation as more debate than discussion and to abandon it.
Additionally, related to the fifth point, we believe in being fully transparent about our past and admission that we were wrong as we think it is very important to be able to re-evaluate your beliefs and opinions and grow. In our mid teens we actually were pretty far into the alt-right pipeline and until about a year or so ago, we were staunch anti-endos. These days we are basically commies and very pro-endo. If anyone has any interest on how we pivoted so hard in our opinions on those topics, we are more than open to talk and discuss it as well as any insights we pulled from the experience.
Also we love martial arts - I forgot that cause I'm not particularly XIV brained rn but we REALLY enjoy martial arts.
We suck at being labeled and having labels. We're just very very queer.

That's about it. We liberally block, so we don't really worry about DNIs. If we don't like your content for any reason, we will remove it from our dash. Whether or not you want to interact with us is up to you past that point. Generally, we welcome anyone to follow as it can make for good conversation.

Hello Everyone! I've been conspiring with @sammy-jo1977 to create a new series of sorts. We want to explore all those characters that started us on our journey into Fandoms, large and small.
This series will be a place for those ladies and gents who haven't had a lot of attention recently, are old favorites or the ones you can't seem to shake. If you would like to contribute a chapter to this guide, please send me a message! We want to have a full and accurate guide, so we are hoping you'll hop in with your character of expertise!
As an example, I'm posting our first story... I'd love to get your thoughts! With Love - Your WordyNerdyGurl
In The Stacks - A Rupert Giles Story
Authorās Note:Ā This story is due, in large part, to my beta-bestie @sammy-jo1977 and it is part of the afore mentioned series.Ā This character might be off television, but his fiery spirit lives on!! As always, reblogs/ shares are encouraged as are comments and love!
Pairing:Ā Female Reader x Giles (Buffy The Vampire Slayer Series) Summary:Ā You get up to mischief with the librarian, in the stacks. Warnings:Ā SMUT ahead.Ā General Buffy knowledge might help, but is not required.Ā Thereās a moment with a bit of blood, but hopefully nothing too triggering for anyone! I hope you enjoy!
āMr. Giles?ļæ½ļæ½ āJust a moment!āĀ You heard the clipped British voice answer before being drowned out by the heavy thumping of falling books and the rustling sound of shifting papers hitting the floor. As you stepped further into the Sunnydale High library, you werenāt surprised to see the familiar faces of Buffy, Willow, Xander and Cordelia huddled around a small table.Ā The friends were practically inseparable and clearly close.Ā You found their kinship adorable and couldnāt help smiling at the group as you drew closer. āHello to some of my best students!Ā And of course, to you Mr. Harris.Ā How is everyone today?ā
Willow, stalwart student and overachiever, smiled broadly, āPretty good.Ā I did ace my math quiz and got an A on my English paperā¦ but, well, I only pulled a B on my Bio test and I just know that I could have done better.ā Offering her friend a consoling pat to the shoulder, Buffy sighed, āItās ok, Will.Ā Youāll get those cells next time!ā āTune in next week as Willow passes her AP Biology test with flying colors, on āAs Sunnydale Turnsā!ā Before anyone could counter, Giles came around the corner carrying a sturdy stack of texts which he dropped onto the table as gently as the large load allowed, āAs always, you four are the best assistants a librarian could ask for.ā āCome on Giles!Ā You know I only hang out here for the beautiful ladies!ā Pinching the bridge of his strong nose, Rupert Giles sighed, āI am well aware of where your interests lie, Xander.ā āPlease, he can hardly handle being with one beautiful girl.āĀ That was from Cordelia who pouted prettily, her hand mirror open as she fixed her hair. āMy girlfriend, ladies and gentlemen!Ā Thanks for that, Cordy.ā Snapping the case shut, staring down her beau, she smiled, āYouāre welcome.ā āUh, Mr. Giles, if I may?āĀ You hated to interrupt but you had come in with a purpose and you meant to see it through. āYes, of course, how can I help?ā Shuffling your feet, a bit nervous now with the asking, you smiled shyly, āI asked at the local library but they were absolutely no help.Ā You see, Iām looking for a specific point of reference and I was led to believe that you could help me.ā āOh!Ā Is it something for our Inner Vision collage boards?Ā I love working on mine, onlyā¦ Itās not my fault that I only see dark clouds and blood when I close my eyes.ā āWell, Miss Summers, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.Ā And the best art challenges us to see that beauty.ā āI hate to tell you what I see when I close my eyes.āĀ Xander retorted. āAh, Mr. Harris, your collage certainly showcases your, ahem, cultured world view.ā āHey!Ā The Simpsons are fine art, ok?Ā Just because they donāt live in a museum doesnāt mean they arenāt culture.ā Giles, unable to stand by any longer griped, āXander, I am almost positive that cartoons do not count as culture.ā You started to answer but Buffy cut you short, adding, āDonāt mind Giles.Ā If it doesnāt come out of some dirty, dusty old book it canāt be culture.ā āItās pop culture!Ā The entertainment of my generation!ā It was your turn to cut in, turning to the tweed clad gentleman, āActually, Mr. Giles, Xander has a point.Ā Cartoons and animation in general are all increasingly seen as valid forms of art.Ā No matter what your tomes might tell you.ā Smirking a little, he appraised your answer before replying, āBe that as it may, Mr. Harris, the amount of television you consume is corrosive.ā Raising his hands in defense, Xanderās head swiveled between the two of you as Willow chimed in, āGive it up, Xander.Ā You know youāll never win and besides, Iām pretty sure that animation and art are different.Ā Wait.Ā They are, arenāt they?ā āWhen I was in Rome last summer, the very attractive, very Italian tour guide told us that theyāve found painted graffiti on the Coliseum.Ā It only goes to prove that times change but people donāt.ā āCordyās right!Ā About the art, not the dishy Italian.Ā And they didnāt paint it, they carved it.āĀ Bouncing her blonde hair decisively, Buffy made her declaration. Ā āWouldnāt paint be easier?Ā I mean, who wants to carry a chisel in order to deface a wall?ā āOh!Ā Oh!Ā I know this!Ā The kind of paint needed to last for centuries hadnāt been invented yet!āĀ Willow, lifting out of her seat in the excitement of academic excellence, was giddy. āYes, Willow, that is correct.Ā In fact, a lot of the graffiti is simple and very crude.Ā Mostly of the phallus, if memory serves.Ā Iām sure I can find a documented case in Agrippa if youāll all just-ā And you watched as everyone rolled their eyes as Giles trailed off, lost now in the hunt for a specific volume which could be sited, should further proof be needed. āEw.Ā Pass.ā āIām with Buffy here, Giles.Ā Keep your Grecian graffiti out of my brain.ā āIāll stick with the Simpsons, thank you very much.ā āYes, well.Ā Itās not Grecian at all, is it?Ā Itās Roman-ā Smiling broadly, Buffy hopped off the table, āGiles is right.Ā The Greeks were more into orgies!ā āBuffy!āĀ Willowās shocked response made you cover a laugh with a fake cough. ā-Of course, cites are rare.Ā Very difficult to find documentation.āĀ Giles, typically, hadnāt given up the search. Cutting through the chatter, louder than it ever needed to be, the period bell sounded. "Ugh.Ā Gym class for me.Ā Why is this even a thing?" "I don't know Buffy, I thought you liked showing off in your little shorts and beating the boys at basketball." "Cordy, that's enough.Ā And while us boys do love looking at you, Buff... we don't love the beatings you regularly deliver." "Well, I have a free period Giles!Ā Do you want me to stay and -" Snapping shut the leather book he was gripping, Giles caught your eye and turned to the peppy student, "Uh, no Willow, I don't think so.Ā I believe I need to see what our Art Department is in need of at the moment." With a shrug, Willow began packing up her belongings as Xander slung his back back over his shoulder, "Will, you can come with me.Ā I'm going to find a nice little corner, under a tree, and sleep away my study hall." āBut, Iā¦ I could help find the Agrippa?Ā Orā¦ some other old Roman book?ā Xander wrapped an arm around Willow and took Cordeliaās open hand, āBut why do that when nothing calls?ā "Another fine example of your scholastic aptitude, Mr. Harris", was your parting shot at the foursome as they walked out the door. "Well. Mr. Giles, now that weāre aloneā¦ Could I talk you into helping me out?" āOf course, of course.āĀ Pushing his glasses further up his nose, fixing his light eyes on yours, āWhat are we looking for?ā Sighing deeply, knowing the chances were slim, āI was hoping we would find some examples of Pre-Columbian deity carvings.ā Pausing, his look serious, Giles peered at you, āInteresting.Ā Anything in particular?ā āYes, actually.āĀ Again you flushed, more than a little flustered at what you were really looking for, āIām researching fertility icons.ā Raising his eyebrows, Giles started, more than a little outside of his comfort zone, but you had to give him credit.Ā He recovered from the shock rather quickly, āOhā¦ Iā¦ I see.Ā Well yes, Iām sure we can findā¦ something.Ā If youāll follow me, please.ā āIām right behind you.āĀ Biting into your bottom lip, you smiled to yourself.Ā Right behind Mr. Giles?Ā What a place to be.Ā Giles led the young art teacher through the deepest stacks of the library, pausing once or twice to confirm that she was keeping up with him.Ā He was ashamed to admit that he had lost travelers a time or two as he stalked through his overstuffed shelves, knowing instinctively where to find the book he needed most. For her, watching the tweed covered bottom of Mr. Giles was no hardship.Ā True, he was older and tad bit reserved in the best British way, yet she had the sneaking suspicion that underneath all the wool and starched cotton was the heart of a wild man poet. "Uh... just a bit further, I'm afraid.Ā Books like this, well, I keep them at a greater remove." "It makes sense.Ā Don't want the kiddos getting a hold of anything too tantalizing." "Of course not.Ā As you well know, they don't need much help in the libidinous response department." You chuckled softly, nodding as the air around you grew stuffier, "Too true!Ā You should see what some of them turn in and call art.Ā It would make a blind man blush." And at the mention of blushing, you were shocked to see a rosy hue grow on Mr. Giles' cheeks.Ā You liked it.Ā It reminded you of the high color in a Vermeer painting.Ā You couldnāt help the flutter in your belly at the thought, "Mr. Giles, have you ever seen a South American fertility statue?" "I can't say that I have... have... have you?"Ā Something about the idea of you examining an ancient artifact directly connected to sexual congress made his body stir.Ā "Hmm... Oh, yes.Ā I was able to study in Mexico for a semester.Ā Some of the art work is just incredible and the carvings, they're truly magnificent.Ā Carefully made.Ā Usually stone or..." swallowing hard, your throat suddenly dry, "hard wood." Breaking fast at the implication in your words, Giles froze in place which caused you to press directly against his broad, vest covered back.Ā You had a second to register the soft scent of his aftershave; something spicy and masculine, which made your mouth water.Ā Moaning quietly, you offered a weak apology, āOh, I am so sorry, Mr. Giles.ā Offering you his profile, the bookcases too cramped for him to turn around fully, you saw his sweet smile, āThatāsā¦ thatās quite alright.Ā In fact, weāre here.ā Stepping out of the way, you pushed back against the opposite wall, the shelves digging into your spine in the confined space.Ā Giles bent over, giving you a great view of his backside, as he extracted a slim book from the bottommost ledge.Ā When he stood up, directly in front of you, the narrow, book covered alcove caused him to stumble. Gilesā chest collided with your own, forcing the air out of your lungs.Ā Instinctively, you lifted a leg, curling it over the swell of one trousered hip and lifting the hem of your knee length plaid kilt.Ā Nose to nose in a compromising position, you exhaled a shaky breath as Mr. Giles inhaled, āClose quarters around here.ā Shifting under his deceptively hard figure, it was difficult to ignore all the places that were firm to the touch, especially when you could feel so much through the thin barrier of your cotton panties.Ā Bracing one arm on the obliging shelf biting into your shoulder, Giles pushed back a bit, lifting his weight off of you without making any other attempts to move away.Ā He was so close now.Ā Close enough to feel your fuzzy sweater and all the soft skin that trembled beneath it.Ā Close enough to see the pound of your pulse in your throat.Ā Close enough that when you licked over your bottom lip Giles could almost taste it too.Ā And why shouldnāt he?Ā āGiles?āĀ Your voice was whisper soft, fanning hotly over the face of your colleague. āUhā¦ yes?ā āIām stuck.ā Blinking behind his thick lenses, it took the normally quick witted Brit a second to process your words, āYouāre stuck?ā Nodding slowly, your hair curling over your cheek, āMyā¦ My skirt.Ā Itāsā¦ uh, caught.Ā Caught on something behind me.ā āGood heavens!Ā Iām so sorry, let me help you.āĀ Slowly, Giles lowered your bare leg to the floor, his hand lingering for a second longer than absolutely necessary.Ā He was still in your space.Ā Still incredibly close to you. You arched away from the bookcase in an attempt to free yourself with a groan that sounded heady in the stuffy stacks.Ā All you managed to do was force your sweater covered dĆ©colletage into Gilesā chest.Ā Stammering, a wave of sweat breaking over his brow, āAllow me?ā The way your skirt was caught pulled the bright plaid lower on your waist than you would normally consider decent.Ā It meant that you had a fleshy strip of skin exposed along your tummy and Giles raised his eyebrows by means of asking permission to touch you.Ā āYea, yes.Ā Please!ā Tentatively, gently, you felt the strong fingers of Rupert Giles circle your waist and shivered at the unfamiliar familiarity of his touch.Ā Your chin rested on his shoulder as he worked and you couldnāt help sighing when he opened his hands and pulled you closer.Ā Under other circumstances you might have misunderstood the embrace but you were both professionals.Ā Not that you hadnāt considered the handsome book guardian a time or two before. āIā¦ I think weāre almost there.Ā If youāll just, maybe to the right?ā āUm, sure.āĀ Following his directions you twisted in his arms, trying hard not to tear your outfit or rub against Giles.Ā All the close contact and talk of fertility gods had you feeling a little aroused and it wouldnāt do for your colleague to learn that fact. With a triumphant grunt, Giles set you free, only for gravity to kick back in.Ā The momentum created by your falling took the gentleman and the entire Grollierās Gothic Almanac collection with you.Ā A cascade of papers, scrolls and dust rained down on you both. Coughing, aware that you were laying on something softer than the floor, you struggled into a sitting position, swatting away clouds of disintegrated pages, āRupert?Ā Are you alright?ā From beneath you a rumbling grumble that sounded like, āYes quiteā¦ you?ā was heard.Ā It was then that you realized exactly where you were.Ā Straddling your friendly neighborhood librarian, surrounded by debris, but safe, all the same. āOh my!Ā Iām so-ā āNo, No.Ā Please, donāt apologize.Ā Iāve been meaning to reorganize this section and well, now it seems Iāve got no choice.ā āYouāve got a bump.Ā Right hereā¦āĀ Just over his right eye a small bruised egg, the color of lilacs, was starting to rise and you gingerly touched the swelling spot. āThen it will match the one on the back of my head perfectly.ā āPoor Giles!Ā All of this injury in the name of research!ā āNo one ever tells you the dangers one might encounter in the library.ā His dry British wit sent you both into giggles and suddenly nothing could be funnier than the moment you were in with Mr. Giles.Ā Looking up at you, his fingertip traced over your cheek, suddenly serious, āIām not the only one with a war wound, it appears.ā āOh?āĀ Your hand covered his as you realized that you had a small cut, bleeding just a little, over the apple of your jaw.Ā Smoothing his thumb over your injury, Giles soothed you, saying, āHush now, I think youāll live.āĀ And you watched as Giles sucked the drop of scarlet from the pad there, his green eyes on yours, daring you.Ā Something about it was soā¦ sinful.Ā So dark.Ā So alluring. Then his lips were on yours, suddenly and savagely.Ā Hands, firm and capable, slid under the fluff of your sweater along your spine as you tangled your own in his dark hair.Ā Giles, drawing you near, was satisfied only when you were splayed over him, writhing between the piles of text and stacks of piled paperbacks, as his tongue plundered your mouth. Trapped by his bent knees at your bottom, Giles helped center you over the firmness of his excitement, teasing you as you moaned, āOh, oh Rupert!ā āCall me Ripper.āĀ Before the word had left your throat, Giles was sloppily kissing over your neck, sucking lightly on the skin revealed by the v-neck of your top.Ā Sitting up quickly, you lifted the soft sweater over your head, tossing it away from you without concern.Ā Like one of the teenagers you might chastise, you then hugged your lover tight, gasping when you felt the nip of teeth over your bra.Ā āGilesā¦ Uh, Ripper!Ā Please, go easy?āĀ With a hard grip on your upper thigh and one hand on the back of your neck, Giles held you still, smirking, āIf you wanted easy you shouldnāt have come looking for fertility icons, my dear little art teacher.Ā And if this particular article of clothing-ā He paused long enough to pinch at your hardening nipple before continuing, ā-is dear to you, take it off.ā Clenching your abdominals at his crass language, more turned on that you could remember, you reached behind you.Ā Unhooking the pretty scrap of lace and satin, you shyly covered yourself, biting into your bottom lip, āFineā¦ Ripper.Ā Should I be worried for my virtue?ā āAbsolutely.āĀ Without waiting for permission, Giles pulled your arms away, exposing your bare body to his blazing gaze, āYou have nothing to hide, you know?Ā You are-ā āJust shut up and kiss me, Ripper.āĀ And he did. Grinding your hips into his, it was impossible to ignore his hardening manhood, even through the fabric of his pressed trousers.Ā Giles cupped your bottom, under your skirt but over your panties, bouncing you in place as if he was already inside of you.Ā For your part, you tried to unbutton his pin striped shirt, but the force of his kisses was proving too distracting. āOh, dear!Ā Poor thing been kissed senseless?āĀ He was teasing and cruel, but in the sexiest possible way. Red cheeked and huffing, you nodded, āYesā¦ let me touch you!ā āTskā¦ you didnāt say āpleaseā.ā āPlease!Ā Please, Ripper!Ā Oh god, please let me!ā Unseating you slightly, Giles leaned up on his elbows, cocking his head to one side as he took in the mess he had made of you, āGo ahead then.Ā Unzip my pants.ā āWhat?ā Removing his glasses, eyeing you darkly, āYou heard me, I think.ā Swallowing hard, your hands shaking with excitement, you reached for Gilesā belt.Ā Watching him, and only him, you slowly slide the leather from itās buckle.Ā When you popped the button of his pants and let your hand drag over his hardened length, Rupert groaned and tossed his head back, āYes.Ā Keep going.ā Slowly, agonizingly so, you lowered the zipper as you were ordered to do, āWhat now, Ripper?ā āTake me out.Ā I want you to feel what you do to me.ā āI can do that.āĀ You played it cool, but the saucy words being said in that clipped British baritone did things to you.Ā They made your thighs tighten, your belly flutter and your breath catch.Ā Ā Trailing a hand over Giles' barely exposed hip, you moved closer to the prize, your prize, as it pulsed with need.Ā Wrapping your hand around the meaty girth of Rupert's member, you couldn't help stroking the silky hot skin, so vital in your palm.Ā That it caused the man beneath you to moan your name only added fuel to the fire of your desire. Slick and sorely wanting, you licked your lips, ready to savor the flavor of your book stacking beau but he stopped you, saying, "Last chance to run back to the studio." "No wayā¦ Ripper."Ā And you felt a rough jerk as your panties were removed by force, the air cool on your overheated core.Ā Another kiss, full of needful things, distracted you as Giles parted your lower lips with his nimble fingers. Pumping into you, once, twice, just to ensure that you were ready, Rupert swiftly stretched your center.Ā With your small hand guiding his shaft, you lowered yourself onto the engorged tower of his power, crying out a ragged, "Oh God!" You thought you were capable of handling any man, but the delicious spread Giles' fine form forced you to endure was more than you expected.Ā Clutching at his bunched up sweater vest, your back arched tautly as Rupert dragged your hips down onto his unrelenting hardness over and over.Ā Ā In your head, a rhythmic, tribal tattoo that made you think of ancient fires and curved statues took hold and you rose and fell against Giles on the beats vibrating through your brain.Ā He sensed it too, alternating his stroke, slowing down and speeding up in time with the thrumming pulse only the pair of you could hear.Ā "I want you to cum for me.Ā Do you understand?Ā Tell me you understand." "Yes!Ā Yes!Ā I'm so close, Ripper!Ā So close!" "Good.Ā That's very good."Ā Ā Tingling now, your muscles tensed, ready for the release Rupert would provide.Ā You flung yourself onto his swollen sex without thought or reason, merely searching for the pleasure he had promised.Ā His thumb, so thick, so clever, pressed against your sensitive clit and your world imploded. Rupert felt it.Ā The moment your body and his melded together was forceful.Ā It tore his pleasure from his loins in grunting gasps as he experienced your ecstacy at his hands. Limp and listless, you draped your half nude body over his, dazed and drained.Ā Who knew screwing the librarian would feel this good?Ā In your post coital haze you started to laugh.Ā Ā Giles, his hands roaming over the sweat soaked skin of your back, heard your chuckles and joined in.Ā It was another release, of sorts, and you found it almost as intimate as the act you had just committed. Folding your hands under your chin, flashing Rupert a wide smile, "Ripper, huh?" Sliding his glasses back into place and carding a hand through his hair, Giles grinned, "Oh, uhā¦ yes.Ā Ripper.Ā My nickname in London." Toying with the collar of his shirt, "I'd love to hear about London sometimeā¦ Ripper." At the sound of that name in your voice, Rupert flexed inside of you, "Call me that again and you'll miss last period." Gasping against him, nodding weakly, "Hmmā¦ promise?" That made him smile broadly as he handed you back your sweater, "We can't have a repeat of last week, can we?" "It wasnāt my fault you didn't hear the bell ring, Mr. Giles!" Sitting up, you fastened your bra and shrugged into your sweater before asking, "Did you have to destroy my undies?" "I'm afraid I did.Ā Although I told you to remove anything dear, didn't I?" "What am I gonna do for the next hour, Giles?" Pushing his glasses up, "I would advise you not to bend over." Swatting at him playfully, you used one of the sturdier shelves to stand, adjusting your skirt and fluffing your hair.Ā Looking around at the absolute mess created by falling books, embarrassed, you asked, "Can I help clean this up?" "No, I don't think that'll be necessary.Ā After all, Willow will be in-" "Along with Buffy and Xander and Cordelia.Ā Got it." Standing himself, Giles chuckled as he fastened his trousers and set himself to rights, "Precisely.Ā Now-" he bent over to retrieve a slim volume, "- The book you asked about.Ā Fertility iconography in Meso-American subcultures." "Thanks.Ā Ya know, I always enjoy coming to the library.Ā I'm surprised more people don't." Walking with you, his hand on your lower back, nuzzling into your neck, "I enjoy you cumming in the library." It was on the tip of your tongue to say something fresh when the overly loud bell clanged.Ā Lifting up on tiptoes you pressed a kiss to the goose egg over Giles' eye, saying, "I hope that makes it feel better!" Snagging you into a tight hug, Giles stared into your eyes before kissing you deeply, "That.Ā That makes it feel better." And then the library door swung wide on the four students who called the library a second home, "Umā¦ are my eyes deceiving me or is Giles sporting a black eye?Ā I was only gone for an hour, big guy, what happened?" "If you must know, Xander, a shelf collapsed in the back.Ā We were fortunate enough not to be badly hurt but, there were some bumps and bruises." "A shelf!Ā Oh noā¦ which one?!" Giles turned to Willow solemnly, "I'm afraid all the Grollierāsā¦ and most of Crentist." "On it.Ā Come on Xander.Ā You can help me sort!" "Aw, gee.Ā That sounds like fun." As the pair trotted off, you turned to Giles, whispering low, "Dinner?Ā My place?Ā You can tell me about London, your childhood and why you love tweed." Eyeing Buffy, who was distracted and a distraught, Giles answered, "Tonight?Ā Umā¦" "He'd love to!Ā Say 9 o'clock?Ā And, he'll bring the wine."
Spinning on your heel, surprised that Buffy was your champion, you grinned, "Great!Ā Awesome!Ā I will see you then."
As you left you heard the bubbly blonde doling out instructions, "No Giles.Ā You can't wear that outfit to dinner!Ā You need to look nice.Ā Nicer than you do now.Ā Also, why is there so much dust in your hair?" If Giles answered you didnāt hear it over your big yawn.Ā You had a lot to do between now and 9 oāclock.Ā Rupert Giles was coming over for dinner and you could hardly wait.

What I Thought About "Keeping Up A-Fear-Ances" from The Owl House
Salutations, random people on the internet who most likely wonāt read this! I am an Ordinary Schmuck. I write stories and reviews and draw comics and cartoons!
When Dana Terrace did her AMA on Reddit, a fan asked what we could expect for the new season. To which she replied by listing five things:
Parental conflict
A lot of emotions
Island exploration
New characters
...There's a fifth thing in there. You just got to look closely.
Now, when Dana mentioned parental conflict, dozens of fans assumed she was talking about Alador and Odalia, which, I mean...valid. They were the only two parental figures who presented any real conflict, and the idea of Camila being involved seemed implausible due to Luz being cut off from the human world. But no matter how you perceived that line, one thingās for sure: No one expected Eda and Lilith's mother to be a source of conflict!
Yup. Today we met the woman who created two of the (former) greatest witches in all of the Isles. Was her introduction welcomed? Or did she give the Blights a run for their money for the "Worst Parent(s) of the Year" award? Only spoilers can answer those questions, so keep that in mind as we go in-depth with "Keeping Up A-Fear-Ances."
Let's review, shall we!
WHAT I LIKED
The Flashback: Already, this episode comes out swinging by giving us so much information! We get an explanation of what Eda goes through when cursed (which is horrifying), the reasoning behind her gem, the revelation that Eda ran away from home, and the reveal of how she got the portal door. The best part is, none of it feels rushed or forced. Eda's curse and the portal are integral threads to this story, both in this episode and in future ones. Tying them together sets up Gwendolyn's determination to cure her daughter while showing Eda's determination to escape her mother by skipping town into another dimension. There's also a sense of mystery in how and why the portal was in their backyard. And judging by how we got all of this incredible information in episode FOUR of the new season, something tells me we'll get answers to those questions sooner than we might think. This was such a strong opening to the episode. Despite giving so much information, it makes fans like me want even more. Which is an A+ in my book.
Gwendolyn: Yeah, might as well step out the gate in saying that I like Gwen...but I can already see how others won't. Immediately, she sets herself up as a mother who would do anything and everything to cure her daughter. That aspect of her character is perfect, and it quickly won points from me in terms of liking her. It's just that Gwendolyn's disregard of what Eda wants and the complete dismissal of Lilith are aspects of Gwen that are certainly going to rub some people the wrong way. Especially if those kids come from households where their parents are a lot like Gwendolyn. I was in the same boat of hating her too for a while, but thankfully, the last act saved her.
First, there's that scene where Gwendolyn threatened the lives of the demons for not only screwing her over but making things worse for Eda. It's one of those "Hell hath no fury like a mother scorned" moments that I always love to see.
Then there's the fact that Gwendolyn learns her lesson and, more importantly, apologizes. Not many actual abusive mothers would do that (Looking at you, Odalia), so it's nice to see that she makes an effort to make amends. Oh, and by the way, since I mentioned it, don't go around calling Gwendolyn abusive. She isn't. Or, at least, not to my eyes. If anything, she's a lot like Sara Fitzgerald from My Sister's Keeper (The book. Not the movie. The movie sucked).
In that story, Sara makes controversial choices that result in her youngest daughter Anna getting the short end of the stick due to putting all attention towards her eldest Kate. But here's the thing: KATE HAS CANCER! So while Sara's choices are beyond questionable, you can understand her point. And if you don't, well, I'd see how you would react when in her shoes. Trust me when I say that situations like this aren't always cut and dry. It's the same with Gwendolyn. She's far from "Mom of the year," but you understand where she's coming from. She wants to do what she can to help Eda, even if her methods could have been better. But that's just how I feel, and I can't speak for everyone who dealt with mothers far worse than her. If you refuse to forgive her, I'll understand. But to me, I consider Gwendolyn a worthy addition to the series.
(Plus, she just radiates Grandma energy when interacting with Luz. It's cute, and therefore I must love it!)
Luz: This season is on FIRE when presenting Luz!
I adore that the first thing we see her doing in this episode is sleeping after, most likely, another all-nighter to find a new portal. It proves that she has a determination made of iron and an intense dedication to getting back to Camila. In fact, it's that dedication that works as a perfect way to build a connection between Luz and Gwendolyn. They both want to reconnect with their families and are willing to do whatever it takes to do so.
Regardless, despite so desperately wanting to see Camila again, I'm glad that Luz still has common sense when it comes to helping Eda. She quickly sees that Gwen's cures are doing more harm than good, and it's great that Luz is the one to call malarky on the whole thing. No one had to spell things out for her because she's smart enough to notice that everything Professor Warlop is marketing feels a lot more like the fake medicine real people sell in the human world. It's a testament that despite having a big heart and the best intentions, Luz still has the intelligence to know when something is up and put a stop to it. And, again, let's hope that more people pick up on that.
Lilith: ...who would have expected Lilith of all characters to have most of the emotional moments in this episode?! I sure didn't!
But...Yeah. Lilith is the best thing in "Keeping Up A-Fear-Ances." On top of her seeking Gwendolyn's approval being relatable for some viewers, it's also really heartbreaking. I mean, listen to the shocked and hurt tone in her voice after finding out Gwen visited Eda regularly. That alone should give away how much Gwendolyn is important to Lilith and says so much about how strained their relationship became after the curse. Then there's that scene where she just breaks down, feeling both scared and torn apart by the fact that she experienced the curse in its full form and could do nothing to stop herself. It...stung. That's the best way to describe it. It stung seeing a character who is (mostly) cool and collective to become so vulnerable and broken. And, you know what? It's because of this that Lilith has won me over. I still don't think she should have been as forgiven as quickly as she was, but after learning what Lilith went through and what she's currently going through, I'm more than willing to be ok with her. And--I can't believe I'm saying this--I'm going to miss her being a part of the Owl House. She earned her place, in my opinion, creating entertaining dynamics with everyone. Sure, she'll make appearances every now and again, but I wouldn't mind a few more episodes with her being with the main group. But I'm positive the writers will have plans for her in the future and seeing how well she was written in this, I can't wait to see what they do next.
King Hoping to see his Dad Again: This was just a cute tidbit that ties nicely into last week's episode. Bonus points for that scene where King and Lilith get drunk off of Night Market ice cream. It got a good chuckle out of me, especially when Hooty was the one who ended up being the voice of reason.
Cursed Lilith: ...How does she look worse and more terrifying than Eda?
How Beast Keeping Magic Works: Not much I can say about this. It's neat to be given a visual explanation of how Beast Keeping magic works and how it's more than just controlling animals. Judging by the roof shingles, it can also be making objects more animal-like. It's pretty cool, and I hope to see more of how the rest of the magic from the prominent covens work.
Luz wasnāt the only human: To tell you the truth, this doesn't surprise me. Eda did say that every myth humans have is a bit of the Boiling Isles leaking into the human world, so why can't the opposite be true? However, the reveal of there being a famous human around many years ago presents many more questions, and possible theories, that deserve to be discussed in a future post. For now, I'll just say that it's awesome how this reveal perfectly transitions us to next week's episode, "Through the Looking Glass Ruins." We already know Luz is going to the library. But, seeing how Gus is going to be a prominent character in that episode as well, he probably wanted to tag along with Luz to study about the first human in the Boiling Isles. Only to then get sidetracked by some cool kids from Glandis. It's in the realm of possibility, thus proving how more serialized this season compared to Season One while still being somewhat episodic. Because even if "Keeping Up A-Fear-Ances" presents a lot for the overall story, it's still its own tale about family relationships and knowing how to truly be there for the people you love. Resulting in a necessary and cute episode that ends on a wholesome note without any major surprises like--
Creepy Clone Luz: ...
...Dana Terrace, you lying--YOU SAID CREEPY LUZ WAS A FARCE! IN THE SAME AMA, TOO! CURSE YOU! CURSE YOU AND YOUR SNAKE TONGUE, GOSH DANGIT!
...Alright, now that I got my overreaction out of the way, this was an amazingly well-written surprise!
Tricking fans into thinking that Camila is crying over the realization that Luz is gone, only to then reveal this...thing, is the best shock to the system that this series has done so far. Even better, it results in all the right questions:
Who is it?
What is it?
Where did it come from?
When did it get there?
How did it get there?
How does it know about Camila?
And why? Just, why?
To me, a series that presents all of these questions, and makes me excited for whatever answers are given, is a series that's doing something right. Because if I'm still reeling over something that lasts for a second, despite seeing the episode hours ago, that is a testament to how good a surprise really is.
WHAT I DISLIKED
Trust me, I want to give this episode the A+ just for that ending alone. But, there are some issues I have that are worth discussing.
Edaās Outfit Change: I know. It's the nitpickiest of all nitpicks I could present. Particularly because Eda doesn't even look bad (although that's no surprise). The issue is that it feels weird that Eda's having this permanent outfit change in the fourth episode of Season Two. Or, to me it is, at least. Because I think that if you're going to give a small yet constant change to the look of a character, it should be done right away. Like, in the first episode of a new season. I highly doubt fans would question why Eda is wearing different clothes by then, so it wouldn't be too bad if the first time we see her, sheās sporting a new outfit. Again, this is just me, and I have no problems with the outfit itself. It just seems odd they would do this later rather than sooner.
Screwing with Eda: I...did not like this. At all. It was funny at first to see Luz and Gwendolyn lure Eda with Apple Blood like how Wile E. Coyote would bait the Road Runner with birdseed, but it quickly took a turn. Because I don't want to see Eda meet inconvenience after inconvenience from her mother and surrogate daughter. I like Eda, and seeing her happy makes me happy. If I wanted to laugh at a character's suffering, I would have picked Boscha, Mattholomule, Alador, and/or Odalia. This? This was just unnecessary cruelness to a character who doesn't deserve it. And it takes up a good chunk of this episode, making me question whether or not this would be the stinker I was fearing. Fortunately, the ending increased my enjoyment by several notches, but that doesn't change how this was the low point of "Keeping Up A-Fear-Ances."
IN CONCLUSION
Despite the road being rocky in the middle, I still consider "Keeping Up A-Fear-Ances" to be another solid A episode. The first and last few minutes have some quality writing that adds more to the characters, ongoing plot, and mystery that the series is building up. It's one of those important episodes you can't skip when watching a series, but given how it's keeping the new season's impeccable track record, I fail to see how that's a problem.
(Although, I am scared. We haven't gotten a stinker yet, and I really don't want it to be next week's episode. It's a Gus episode with sweet Lumity content on the side! That cannot fail!)

The part where you get basic info on my PokƩmon oc's so you don't get confused when I post about them.
This is gonna be a long post. I have like 8 total. 16 if your counting the secondary protags (my version of May and Lucas for example, which I won't be going over in detail cause I'm not insane). Might want to check my timeline 9 it's pinned or just check bulbapedia if your confused about the ages. If you have any questions feel free to ask. I hope you enjoy :)
Name :Jin Amachi
Gender: " I am nonbinary. I they/ them pronouns, but I'm alright with he/ him as well.
Age:
12( when started journey in Hoenn( Emerald)
22 by SM/USUSM
26 by SWSH
Basic info: With all things said and done, Jin is grateful for their journey. They learned a lot, even if they had to stop two extreme environmentalist along the way. They know the two meant well, but it's just too bizarre for it to happen. Though the two seem to be in a better place now. They're happy for them. They're father and them talk more now. It's still awkward, but better. They know he's trying his best, and they will do the same. It's much better than back then. But no need to worry about the past.
If anything, they're more worried about the others.
Kenji Elm
Gender: " I'm getting sudden dejavu. But I'm a boy! The best boy! Don't call me a girl, I will cry. And because I'm not one! So don't. Anyway have you heard of-" * starts to ramble*
Age:

17 by SM
21 by SWSH
Basic Info: Kenji Elm is not the biological son of Professor Elm. He was adopted at a young age, and he doesn't know who is birth parents. Not that he cares. He's more than happy with the family he got( though he wonders when they'll throw him away like his parents did). Energetic and always willing for an adventure, Kenji is generally on the move!( He's so sorry if he's being annoying please don't leave please)
He has a vast amount of interests, but his two favorites are painting and battling. Battling is obvious, he's the champion of the Indigo League, but he always had an artistic eye. But his favorite pastime is hanging out with his friends! When he gets the time of course. He's sometimes wonder how he was able to hold the title of champion for so long though haha ( his win was a fluke he knows it he knows it) .But yeah! That's Kenji! Always there with a smile! Our little golden boy! š
Name: Danica Yamamoto
Gender: "I'm a girl. She/her pronouns. They/ them is cool too. Don't mind Kenji, he talks a lot." *Offended Kenji noises in the background*
Age:

Basic Info: Giratina and Arcues are quite alike, the more she thinks about it. Though, the rest if Sinnoh, quite possibly the whole world would disagree with her. Giratina is " the lord of darkness". It's followers have a history of not being....the best. Giratina resides alone in the Distortion World, paying for it's past sins. Clearly, Giratina and Arcues are nothing alike.
Hm? Oh. Right. Pardon.
Danica grew up in Twinleaf town, with her best friend Barry. Those two are almost polar opposites. Barry is always moving, going fast, and doesn't wait for no one( except Danica and Emmet). Danica can go fast, possibly faster than Barry, but likes to take things slow. Both can be quite chaotic.Barry has a bit of a temper, Danica's chill. Both are cases where you should run when they are angry. Like. Very angry. The two bounces of each other well, and hang out regularly with Emmet, even with their busy professions ( Danica as champion, Barry as Frontier Brain and Emmet as a professor). Danica loves baking, and would often be making poffins and other baked treats for her, her pokemon and others ! She's also a bit of a nerd, so you'll also find her in a library or two. Her pokemon are her babies, and she hopes to have plenty of battles with them in the future!
.....
But really. They are quite alike. Both are beings of great power. Both have a following, even if one is less seen. Both are feared. They are feared greatly. Do they fear each other? Did Arcues banish Giratina in fear of the world or in fear of losing control? Did Giratina learn it's lesson after eons of being in the Distortion World? She could never tell. It doesn't really open up much, only going back to said Distortion World on its own Accord( it felt wrong to be it's "owner"). Though it do comes back, surprisingly. Maybe because she asked it to. To make sure Cyrus doesn't die in there. He still won't come out. She doesn't understand why. It's been years. Has he learned his lesson? Giratina seems to be fond of him. Affectionate. Cyrus never objects to this. So he must right? Right?
Ah, getting off topic. They're quite alike, being feared by the masses. Even if Arcues is mostly beloved. It's a god. It has such power. They're both feared. They themselves must fear as well . It must get lonely....... She thinks she gets Cyrus now.
Name: Alexis " Alex" Jones
Gender: " Um, hi? I'm just a dude. Use he/ him pronouns.....yeah"

22 by SWSH
Basic info: It's so funny, the more he thinks about. He was so excited, despite his worries. He was going on a journey. A gym challenge. Pathway to champion. He was going to do that! With his sister and his friends! On his birthday! It was perfect! It should have been perfect! But everything just went wrong.
The bodies, the blood, the pressure to " be a hero"( intentional or not), it was all too much. Too much. Then- then he was a coward. He fled it all. Even after saving the day. It was stupid. So stupid. And the people in his life had a right to be angry. Why wouldn't they? He deserved it, really. But now things are better(?). He has a daycare to co-run, he's gradually learning his way as a pokemon medic, and he still has his pokemon( the ones that were lucky enough to survive). He's so grateful for them. He doesn't battle, though. No, he's never doing that ever again. He's caused enough harm( he hates how he stares at trainers battling). He's no good anyway( he hates how bored his team looks half the time) . He doesn't understand why people insist that he is( he hates that he has this itch, this desire). He doesn't understand why they look so disappointed when he says he doesn't battle anymore( he hates that he misses the rush, the strategy, the freedom of it all). He's fine with what he got. He's no hero.
.....Why is his aunt calling him?
Name: Evangeline " Eva" Ortiz
Gender: " Hiya! I'm a lovely lady! I use she/her pronouns, please and thank you!"
Age:
14 when journey started ( B2W2)
16 by SM
20 by SwSh
Basic Info: Eva! Eva my Beloved. Eva's fun, y'know? Always moving, helping, laughing, smiling. Life of the party! She rivals Kenji with that winning smile. Not to mention that she's a great battler! It's almost like she was born for this. Maybe she is! Who knows. But what she do know is that she's Unova's Champ and she gotta defend her title! And protect her region! Though she probably would have done that without the title anyway haha! Hmm what else? Oh! She loves technology! For some reason that surprises a lot of people that don't really know her, but she does! She's a bit of a tinkerer if she do say so herself. She likes it when people compliment on her skills it makes her more confident in them. Even Col-
No.
....
Ahem.
Anyway she's pretty talented. But that comes from a lot of hard work! And luck. But lots of hard work.( And also luck). Aaaah, that should that's it? Well, she does tend to be distant, b-but she's busy, yeah? Don't worry about it. Oh! One more thing. It's not really a big deal, just a random fact.
She hates the cold.
Name Jude Bellrose
Gender: "...... Why do you care ?" ( E: Jude don't be rude! Al: No no, she has a point.) *Ooc: Jude is genderfluid. Right now, in this post, she's using she/ her pronouns, but she also uses he/him and they/them*
Age:
18 when journey started in Kalos( XY)
20 by SM
24 by SwSh
Basic info: Death has a way of teaching you things. Jude learned a lot from it. She learns to not take it for granted, both death itself and the one that is dead. She learns to be humble. She learns to be kind.
Jude was, and still is, prickly. She's not rude my any means, unless she is, but she's just hard to become friends with. She used to have this philosophy of trainer and pokemon; they should be no emotional bonds. They're not here for that. They're here to win. And she did. Until she didn't. Her first pokemon died. It devastated her. Her pokemon, surprisingly, comforted her. And then another one died, and her pokemon comforted her again. Star, her Staraptor, was strong. So strong, and yet it died, and she cried and get pokemon cried with her. She never felt so loved. Not saying that her mother doesn't love her, the opposite really, it's just things have been....complicated. Couple that with strangers turn( begrudgingly) friends, and Jude's heart turned all warm inside. Not that she'll ever admit that outloud.
Jude is a kind person, despite her prickly nature. She loves the world around her, loves her friends, loves her pokemon. She respects death, despite the pain she causes her. The world itself of beautiful as it is, which it's such a shame that a capitalist fool a certain someone couldn't see that way( poor Sycamore).
Jude is a good trainer, despite her loss. She knows this. She'll prove it too the moon and back. If only a certain someone thought the same for himself.
Aster Mahina
Gender: "...." "Mizzz Aster is a girl! She uses she/her pronouns! Zzt."
Age:
11 in SM, where her journey started
15 by SwSh
Basic Bio: Aster doesn't hate Kanto. She doesn't. She was born there and lived there for 11 years. She just doesn't want to back. But she has to, cause she's " the first champion of Alola and as champion" yada yada yada. Like. She gets it. Being Alola's first and currently only champion, you gotta make an impression. She gets that. She still doesn't want to go. Even when she's been there, like, 4 times now. There are some good things in Kanto though. Lillie is there. And seeing Lillie physically is always a plus. She also gets to see Uncle Red, Uncle Green, and Aunt Blue. Kenji, while not living in Kanto, is champion of the Indigo League, and it's always fun with Kenji( she loves his art). But. Like. She still doesn't want to go.
But she also likes being Champion. That means she's strong. And since she's strong she can protect her mom. But she can't protect her mom when she's all the way in Kanto! What if he comes back? What if goes to Alola when she's away? She knows that her mom is strong, she knows that but still!
No. No it's okay. Her mom is strong. Lillie is strong. Gladion is strong . Hau is strong. Guzma is strong. They're all strong. She's strong.
She is strong.
Name: Naomi Einar
Gender: "I-I'm a girl! She/her pronouns please!"
Age:
15 in SWSH, which is the start of her gym challenge in Galar!
Basic Info: Hop is pretty convincing, she realizes. Or maybe she's very weak willed. " Let's do the gym challenge together!" He said. He had that look in his eye. She couldn't say no. Or she could, but that would make him upset, and that's the last thing she wants.
If she's being honest with herself, she's scared. She doesn't like big crowds, the attention. They'll be so many eyes on her. So many. A-and then there's Lee and her cousin, Alexis. Hop has made her sit down and watch almost every single match Leon has had. He's an amazing trainer. A-and her mum would tell her stories about Alexis. He was a hero! He stopped an evil team and everything! She can't live up to that! She never even battled before, why would Hop-
No. It's okay. It's okay. She- she'll just quite after failing the first gym. She can handle the embarrassment. And then she'll cheer Hop on when he wins against his brother. Yep. She'll do just that. Okay. Okay.
.....
Everyday, Slumbering Weald seem to intrigue her more and more. It's almost like it's calling her. Da?
No. It- it'sprobably nothing.
#pokemon oc#long post#just the basic info :)#the title is totally not misleading in anyway shape or form#:)#trust me!

Tbh, I believe some of the reaction to Steveās ending is an overreaction and, mostly, nothing to do with Steve or the point they are defending. I want to stress that I am saying some before people mistake that as well. And if you disagree, thatās fine.
1. In MY experience, because Iām not going to pretend ive read most takes on Endgame or read every crevice, people only talk about the timeline being ruined when it came to what Steve did and NOT how other timelines were meddled with. Someone could argue that Steve intentionally meddled, but according to the rules of time travel, intentionality doesnāt matter.
Who knows the unforeseen consequences behind knocking out Tonyās reactor. Who knows what happens with old cap after encountering endgame cap and not only fighting him, but hearing the name āBucky?ā Who knows the consequences of thanos and quo being transported 9 years into the future. Or what about the lady that spots Steve and Tony? And how Tony conversed with his dad.
Weāre told or itās implied that any interference can have devastating consequences, yet only Steveās last decision is obsessively discussed.
2. Peggyās agency allegedly being undermined. Sure, people could argue by the sheer virtue of going back in time and talking to her heās undermined her agency, but we donāt even know how their original discussion went. We do not know what went down and people are robbing Peggy of her agency by essentially stating that Peggy had no choice in the matter.
Are we forgetting how intelligent Peggy is? That Peggy potentially asked Steve how was any of āthisā even possible and the implication of his actions. And if it come off as condescending or patronizing, I apologize, but imho, it appears that some people, generally speaking, believe that because they dislike something thatās the same as it being bad. Other than, they just dislike what was given to us.
But, how does this undermine Peggyās arc or rob her of her agency? How? I think some people want it to mean that her arc was undermined to prove Steve shouldnāt have went back to the past. And do people actually care about Peggyās unnamed husband whose face we never see? Do they really care about her kids?
3. Bucky. People often cite the end of the line remark, but honestly, I think thatās being seen through a shipper lens. Steve and Bucky will clearly fight for each other to make sure the other is safe when theyāre in present danger and will advocate for each other if necessary, but theyāve never been joined at the hip.
These are two people who are close who not only regularly acted independent of each other pre serum, was fine going long stretches without being around each other. Iām not even sure if they wrote each other letters. But, they most defintely love and care for each other.
So, pre serum Steve and Bucky are close, but arenāt around each other all of the time. They are fine going long stretches of time without communicating. And, even when reunited after Steve stormed the base solo, they still largely do their own thing. But, even back then, theyād die for each other.
When we get to winter soldier, Buckyās death was still fresh for Steve. Itās only been a āfewā years for him. He still feel responsible for not being able to save Bucky. But, not only that, Bucky was experimented on, was brainwashed, and a POW of Hydraāsānot only is Steve going to take that personally, he wasnāt going to give up on hydra even if it killed him.
Post destroying the helicarriers, Steve wants to look for Bucky after the film concludes to make sure Bucky is safe and has everything he needs.
In civil war, Steveās mission goes from checking in on buckys well being to making sure Bucky isnāt murdered for something he was forced to do. When Bucky was originally arrested unharmed, Steve was fine. Heās not obsessing over Bucky. Then, when Bucky is brainwashed again, Steve refuses to leave Bucky to his own devices.
After civil war, Steve drops Bucky off in Wakanda and doesnāt think twice about it. Bucky is safe and has the proper resources to heal. They spend two more years apart; they largely havenāt spent any significant time together since Bucky regained his memory. Steve might have called Bucky via TāChalla.
And, just to be clear, Iām not arguing against stucky, itās not my ship, but people can ship whatever they like, itās the fact that weāre consistently shown that Steve and Bucky arenāt dependent on each other. That their lives and decisions do not revolve around one another. The idea that Bucky needs Steve or that Steve is abandoning Bucky is absurd.
4. Steveās ending being a regression. People argue that Steveās storyline is about moving on all while overlooking the fact that he consistently struggled with doing it.
In winter soldier, nat tries to get him to go on dates and Steve points out that is hard because the lack of shared experience. He clings to both Peggy and Bucky in different ways. They are both living, breathing pieces of his past that he was ātakenā from.
Instead of having Sharon kiss him and this go no where (because it was poorly developed), they shouldāve had Steve reflect on what Peggyās death mean to him personally and moving on with his life. I guess her death and the kiss was supposed to signify that, but we donāt actually explore the character. We donāt allow him to sit with it. These things are done to shortcut the storytelling without actually exploring it in the world. But, Steve doesnāt talk about moving or and none of his actions support this in the overall story. Again, what we do see is for the benefit of the viewer and not Steve.
But, the biggest thing is: why do people conveniently ignore that what happened in infinity wars could lead to a huge regression? People talk about how Steve was āmoving onā, but ignore the five year hell of post snap and him admitting that they āthe avengersā couldnāt move on. That their failure would leak into other parts of his life as well and make him reconsider things?
5. Found family. Itās quite clear that the avengers, most of them, largely do not hang out together. They arenāt around each other unless theyāre saving the world. Steve did not abandon his family or the avengers. They got along, but they all lived their own lives. And, itās quite self centered to think you canāt ever leave a group because they canāt function without you. There were more avengers apart of the team then when Steve originally joined, some are powerful than he is and others have shown that they are just as capable leaders as he was or can grow into the role like he did.
But, the idea that Steve āabandonedā the avengers when they needed him most is absurd. His job was to prevent and protect NOT rebuild society. In infinity wars, he fathered the avengers. When the snap happened, he stayed and fought whatever threats popped up, but also ran a support group. Steve stuck through the worst of it. Steve didnāt give up on anyone despite being mentally exhausted. He unselfishly supported humanity as much as he could during that time.
Most of these criticisms ignore that Steve was always sacrificing and living for others. He was always a soldier first. And part of the reason he was so dedicated was because he couldnāt move on.
Many of these criticisms are so spiteful and most of them arenāt even because these fans care about Steve. They care about a found family that doesnāt exist. They care about a ship or ships that are now sunk. Some are upset that Steve lived and Tony died. But, many of them arenāt actually about Steve.
Nat doesnāt get shit for being willing to run away to be with Bruce in age of ultron. Tony doesnāt get shit for abandoning the avengers for five years because they ādidnāt listen to him.ā Others are allowed to make selfish decisions and put themselves first, but when Steve does it āwhat about found family??? What about the avengers???ā
Almost everyone gets to live their lives MINUS Steve. Clint retired. Tony considered retiring before civil war. Like, minus going to the past and staying there, almost every criticism thrown at Steve can be found in another avenger who received little to no criticism in comparison.
Lastly, Iād also argue that Steveās selfishness IS a sign of growth. People are allowed to be selfish at times. People are allowed to put themselves first.
At the time, it was important for Steve to move on because he couldnāt change the past. He had to live in the here and now.
But, then an opportunity was presented to him.
āI can go back.ā
Steve living in the present was coping. He barely lived his life for himself.
People donāt have to like the ending and the time travel stuff doesnāt make sense from any perspective, but most of these angry takes arenāt about Steve at all.

The Magicians Finale - (over a year later)
I didnāt watch the first season of The Magicians as it aired in late 2015- 2016. I was already watching the roughly estimated maximum amount of television I could watch. I didnāt have the time to make for a new show. It debuted at the same time as The Expanse, and that looks like the ābetterā show. But I would soon realize that I liked The Magicians more.
While I was watching the first season, I attempted to go back and look at the writing from while it aired. This experience profoundly influenced how I felt about the controversial ending to the fourth season, and the fall out in the fandom.
The fourth season ended after Quentin Coldwater, ostensibly the showās central character, dying while saving the world. In his orientation to the afterlife there is discussion about was this actually heroic or was it a manifestation of his depression and suicidal identification. The show doesnāt answer this directly, it just has Quentin experience how his friends are mourning him and feel how loved it was. People felt really betrayed by this. It was considered deeply irresponsible. I have already written about it here. In the aftermath, part of me thought back to those recaps and reviews of the first season and wondered āhow did we get to place where we could feel so betrayed?ā Because reviews from the then seemed certain that it was more problematic than it was. Take for example this recap from Vulture season one, where the writer, Hillary Kelly, wonders who this show is actually for? Or this AV Club recap of the first season finale where the writer Lisa Weidenfeld erroneously thinks that The Beast and Julia, both rape victims, are being set up to be the showās main villains? And that Eliotās forced marriage to Fen was potentially a straight washing.
The fact that the worries Weidenfeld put into writing didnāt pan out is probably part of the reason that the showās reputation improved. It would also have characters within the show call out othersās sexism, racism, etc. which could feel like something of a corrective to a lot of pop culture out there. You might also have noticed that in Weidenfeldās recap she makes a comparison between Julia and Willow-gets-addicted-to-magic-plot season six of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Ads for the first season even looked like they wanted viewers to draw that comparison.
I remember from around the second season coming across a several articles declaring The Magicians a worthy successor to Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Emily VanDerWerff discussed it in her review of the second season. As one point she makes the statement that āThe Magicians isnāt as politically subversive as Buffyā, and Iām going to go out on a limb and say that might be less true than she assumed at the time. In an era of backlash against Buffyās creator Joss Whedon, The Magicians could be comparatively more empathetic to its characters and had some pretty subversive plot points. But I havenāt watched an episode of Buffy since the early aughts, or The Magicians since it wrapped.
(VanDerWerffās writing heavily influenced my own thoughts about thee show, which I previously wrote about here. I am also including links to her old podcast, I Think Youāre Interesting and the interviews she did with novelist Lev Grossman and show runner Sera Gamble, though I should note those are from before she transitioned and under her dead name. Also I wanted to include that she included it in her best television of the 2010s article.)
In the articles I just linked to, you might also notice frequent comparisons to Game of Thrones. While the comparisons focus on the the vast difference in budget and how ubiquitous GoT was at the same time The Magicians aired, it is worth noting that both series are postmodern, deconstruction takes on their respective sub-genres. While GoT could use that to point out why surprising and awful things happened to their characters, The Magicians mostly had fewer horrible things happen to its characters. But the comparison might have influenced how post Quentinās death people made a litany of those events/plot points to prove that any faith in the show was misplaced and it was a betrayer better left behind.
The after the fourth season I pulled back from discussing The Magicians online. I just couldnāt deal with other peopleās anger. I was never really active in the fandom, but I did write about it here more than probably any other series since I started this blog. This may have given me a false impression about how the media ended up covering the show. While writing this I was planning an arc that would go something like, āat the start of the fourth season the media loved it and articles this one by Kathryn Van Arendonk at Vulture came out saying that they regretted stopping the show part way through season one. But the fan backlash to the finale was so harsh that even the showās frequent champion, Emily VanDerWerff didnāt write about it at all for the fifth season.ā She did write a positive review at the start of the fifth season. I even read it at the time. She didnāt write about the finale, and that disappointed me, which may have led me to mis-remember the earlier. (I did remember this round table discussion about the ascendency of fandom in which she discusses the showās situation, and it might have also contributed to my misremembering.)
The AVClub had Weidenfeld write a review of the first episodes, but she no longer recapped the episodes as she had for the first four seasons. (Her review is generally about what is missing from the Quentin-less series) While preparing to write this I found out that Deciderās Anna Menta recapped through the third episode, despite being amongst those who felt betrayed by Quentinās death and the lack of opportunity for Quentin and Eliot to explore their romance.
(I just want to take a moment to say a couple of things here. Firstly, I really believed the show runners when they said Quentin was dead and not coming back so I didnāt see the first couple of episodes as a tease that he might come back. When my grandfather who I was very close to died I would regularly have dreams that his death was incorrectly called and heād come back. I saw those episodes as a version of that.)
This has been show Iāve written about the most in recent years. But as I was mostly ignoring both professional and fan writing about it for its final season, I only really got around to reading these now. Iām going to start with this post-finale interview with the producers, Sera Gamble, Henry Alonso Myers John McNamara, written by Vlada Gelman at TVLine. It isnāt really a lot of new information. Itās interesting to read about how being renewed or not affected their editing decisions in post production. They seem happy with it. At Entertainment Weekly, Chancellor Agard interviewed Gamble and McNamara. There is more talk about the connection between the final season of the tv show and the finale book of the trilogy, The Magicians Land. (As a viewer I was always pleased when they somehow brought in details from the books late in the season, whether it was big things for the arc like the World Seed page or details that only mattered for an episode like whales being magicians.) In the interview, they also talk about some of the wildest plot points. Gamble and McNamara also gave and interview to Adam Chitwood at Collider. Chitwood is the most enthusiastic about the show. The interview also confirms for those who want to know that Jason Ralph asked to be let go from the show, and that Juliaās pregnancy probably wouldnāt have happened if her actress Stella Maeve hadnāt gotten pregnant. Finally, in an I canāt believe I missed it example, at the New York Times, Jennifer Vineyard also interviewed Gamble and McNamera. This one starts pretty politically with how trying to save the citizens of Fillory unintentionally works as a metaphor for quarantine and how we donāt get through difficult periods of times because of individuals, instead itās more of a collective. Then it somehow turns into a a thing about being in a mutual admiration society with William Shatner. I truly didnāt see this one coming.
So now I have to get to the actual reviews of the finale, with the caveat that I havenāt watched any of the series in over a year so itās definitely not fresh in my mind. Over at The AVClub, re-capper Weidfeld is mostly mournful for the series, but also makes the point that when the characters grew up and stopped being so hurtful towards each other and themselves, it was less compelling. It kind of ties back to my āhow did people think this was a show that wouldnāt hurt themā question from earlier, but with less interest in fans. I donāt remember if my feelings as it went on would have agreed with it, but it is partially why it was in good place to end the series. At io9, Beth Elderkin seemed to think the finale was rushed and the show deserved better. I donāt remember if I felt like the episode was rushed. But as I read through her recap, I realize that Iāve also forgotten a lot of the episodeās plot points. Over at The Mary Sue, Jessica Mason wrote a positive review highlighting aspects that pleased her as a fan who wanted good things for these characters.
Shortly after the finale Sarah Stankorb at The Atlantic recommend the series to COVID bound bingers. I was shocked to see this. I didnāt think anyone would be recommending it post season for backlash. (Earlier on an episode of Our Opinions Are Correct the hosts walked back what could have been a recommendation for the series, which disappointed me. I donāt remember which episode this was.) Itās a lovely overview of the whole series. I especially like how Stackorb addresses the way the show dealt with Juliaās assault (greatly improving on the source material). It made me wonder if the show will have a legacy, one worthy of celebration. I donāt hope for a revival, but if I had time to re-watch it, I might. And I am happy to read comicbooks building on the source material.

That Time I Named an Invader Zim Background Character and Everyone Thought it was Canon: The Story of Ixane
Like a lot of others it seems, the premiere of Enter the Florpus has recently made me think back to my first stay in the Invader Zim fandom many years ago. For me it was between 2006 and 2007, and I was 14-15 at the time. IZ was and still is a very special cartoon to me, not only for how it influenced me creatively but also the fact being a part of its fandom was my first really positive experience in a fan community. And I wanna talk about that experience because it... lead to something very interesting. Something that only couldāve happened in the now bygone days of the early internet where reliable sources were harder to find and misinformation was much more common, but somehow, has lasted until today.Ā
This is how Ixane, a silent extra that appears only in the episode āBackseat Drivers from Beyond the Stars,ā got her name.
So first off, you might be wonderingĀ āWho the heck is Ixane?ā As I mentioned, she only appears as a background character in the 21st episode of the original series, titled āBackseat Drivers from Beyond the Starsā which Iāll abbreviate for the rest of this post as just Backseat Drivers. Sheās a member of The Resisty, a resistance group against the Irken Empire who also only appear in that episode, although they were planned to become more significant recurring characters later down the line before the show was cancelled.
In 2006 I LOVED the Resisty. They were my favorite group of characters in the entire show, probably because I was fascinated by all their potential which sadly didnāt get the chance to be explored before IZ was canceled. What planets did each of them come from? What are each of their individual species like? How did they form into a single resistance group? What were their names, their personalities? Their hopes, dreams and fears?! THEIR FAVORITE DRINKS?!?! I attempted to provide my own answers to some of these not-so-burning-to-anyone-but-myself (or so I thought at the time...) questions by writing a fanfic calledĀ āResisting Authority,ā which I published on Fanfiction.net and later DeviantArt. Itās since been taken down on FFN while the DA version is currently in private storage on my old account, so hereās a screenshot just to prove it existed:
Despite being more adult in tone than the show it was based on and rather melodramatic (then again, I was 14, and probably so was everyone else reading it),Ā āResisting Authorityā became really, REALLYĀ popular... at least for a fic that didnāt feature any of the showās main characters, given it was entirely about the Resisty and told mostly from the perspective of its leader, Captain Lard Nar. Regardless it got a large amount of positive feedback and significant fan art on DeviantArt, most of which is no longer online although thereās still a little bit hanging aroundĀ - mainly featuring Lyn, an Irken OC from the story who chooses to rebel against the empire and falls in love with Lard Nar, leading to a star crossed lovers conflict.
Because the purpose of the fic was to further explore the Resisty along with the idea ofĀ āWhat if an Irken betrayed their own?ā several characters that appeared onscreen for only a couple of seconds in Backseat Drivers were fleshed out considerably inĀ āResisting Authority,ā where they were given names, species names, home planet names, backstories, motivations and personalities. And of these the one who received by far the most development was a feminine, blue-eyed alien in a hooded purple cloak who I decided to nameĀ āIxane.ā
Ixane would become one of the most important characters inĀ āResisting Authorityā right behind Lard Nar and Lyn. She is a Xanan from the planet Xana, a race of spiritual mystics. She is initially distrustful of Lyn, despite her actions and claims to be as much of a rebel as the rest of them, due to her hatred for the Irken Empire and how they destroyed her home. She believes Irkens are more like machines than living creatures, their bodies merely being empty shells to carry their PAKs around, making them incapable of genuine emotion. When she discovers Lyn and Lard Nar have been in a secret romantic relationship, she becomes even more hateful towards Lyn both due to jealousy, since sheād been harboring feelings for Lard Nar herself, and her genuine belief that Lynās feelings arenāt real, something that will only hurt Lard Nar in the end.
However throughout the course of the story her views are challenged and eventually Lyn manages to prove her wrong by displaying what she canāt deny is anything but legitimate love for Lard Nar and compassion for her allies in the Resisty. Unfortunately Lyn is fatally injured during a battle with a number of Irken soldiers sent to hunt down the rebellion. Now wanting nothing more than happiness for the person she loves, Ixane uses her mystical powers to save Lynās life while sacrificing her own in the process.
This character development (both in the meta sense and in the context of the fic itself) plus her selfless heroic sacrifice is what I think made Ixane one of the ficās breakout characters and caused her to stick in the minds of those who readĀ āResisting Authority.ā They were no longer thinking of her as just some extra, but as this fully developed character complete with an arc that Iād made her into - as the character ofĀ Ixane. But it didnāt occur to me just how big of an impact this may have truly had until about 9 years later.
In 2015, the official Invader Zim comic series by Oni Press began publication and I found myself extremely hyped about IZ again for the first time in almost a decade. It was during this time I came across a particular IZ wiki article and section of its TV Tropes page...
(Sources are here and here)
And I thought to myselfĀ āWait... I thought I named her Ixane...?ā
Because at this point I seriously couldnāt remember. I hadnāt thought aboutĀ āResisting Authorityā in years, and with TV Tropes in particular noting that Ixaneās name was givenĀ āin the [episode] scriptā I wondered if I didnāt actually come up with the name. Maybe it was in the script for Backseat Drivers after all so I used it in the fic. Being unable to find said script (the original script as made by the episodeās writers, not a transcript) I couldnāt confirm it, so I mainly shrugged it off and thought more than likely I just had a bad memory. It wouldnāt be on a (still regularly maintained) wiki if it didnāt at least have a high possibility of being canon, right?
Cut to last night, August 2019. Me and all my other friends and fellow nerds who also grew up loving IZ are still buzzing over Enter the Florpus and our childhood/teenage fan content comes up in conversation. I dig upĀ āResisting Authorityā from my old DA storage for perhaps a good laugh and a bit of nostalgia when more of when I first wrote it starts to come back to me.Ā āI know the wikis all say her name was in the script, but I swear I came up with the name Ixane myself,ā I thought, wondering if there was any way I could prove it.
Turns out I could. All the proof I needed was in a drawing of the character I posted to DA in January of 2007, which like the fic was still in storage:
āUm...I bet a lot of people who read Resisting Authority got the impression she was an OC. She technically isn't. She is a Resisty character we saw VERY BRIEFLY once or twice in Backseat Drivers and I just elaborated on her for the story. The cloaked girl, yasee. Just look here: [link]Ā ā
That link no longer works normally, however putting it into Wayback Machine provides a snapshot taken in September of 2006, which would be around the time āResisting Authorityā was first published on FFN. Scrolling down on that page gives us...
Additionally, opening the image itself reveals the filenameĀ āresistycloak.jpgā rather than something likeĀ āixane.jpgā orĀ āresistyixane.jpgā
For those who werenāt in the fandom back then, The Scary Monkey Show was a very well known IZ fansite and its Encyclopedias section was basically a resource for the showās lore, one considered highly reliable, before things like fan wikis became commonplace. I actually used this site as a reference for the different types of Irken ships and other planets in the IZ universe brought up in the fanfic and so did many other fic writers at the time. If any site on the internet would know a minor or even background IZ characterās name, if it really was in the official episode script, itād be The Scary Monkey Show. Yet her name is listed as unknown.
So why am I telling you this?
Because as wild as this whole situation is, Iām not a person who likes misinformation. I feel like IZ fans, both young and old, should know Ixane is not actually this characterās canon name as given to her by the writers of the show. That being said...
I see no reason to stop calling her Ixane. Thatās just her name now.
Heck, itād probably be difficult to go back to thinking of her as having no name given how long the name has been used on all these wiki pages and whatnot. And Iām completely fine with receiving absolutely zero credit for actually being the one who came up with the name in the first place, because hereās the thing...
I may have made the name, but it was the fandom that spread it. The IZ community, primarily in my absence too, were the ones who codified, legitimizedĀ it. Who added it to those wikis and accepted it as canon all these years. Who believed in it enough to assume it came from the official episode script, from the IZ crew themselves!
Ixane isnāt my name for her. Itās our name for her, as the fans who made Invader Zim the cult classic it is today.
And I want that to be something we all can have and be proud of ā¤ļø

Since I get these messages often I want to make sure everyone sees this:
Once again to reassure everyone, if I ever plan to stop writing (a series in particular or altogether), I will say as much.
More Detailed Anon Answers Below! š
1. Iām so sorry my love! I watched/recorded it when it was available via the Film Festival. It is sadly no longer up. I feel your pain - Iāve been trying to find a way to watch The Learning Curve for years š
2. These messages always make me laugh, not gonna lie. H2M is 160,000 words - I am seeing that thing through to the end. I mentioned several times in authors notes and updates that my updates would be fewer and farther in between since I am studying for the bar exam. My health hasnāt been good lately, so itās slowing me down even more.
If you ever want to check how long itās been since I last updated, you can do so on Tumblr for Web Browser and my Archive of Our Own Account. Please keep in mind I also have over 100 requests, so I like to take breaks from longer works to knock out some of those. It takes me several days to write a chapter of H2M, considering they are regularly over 10K words.
3. They definitely do not care about accountability (if they did, they would care very much about established apologies and changed behavior). I used to be part of those cancel crusades when I was their age (the vast majority are between 14-18). Itās a miserable existence, honestly. I grew tired of being angry all the time. It changed nothing. Horrible things continued happening to me. The only difference when I left was finally getting to have moments where I didnāt have to be scared/angry. Find your group of safe people and stick with it.
Itās easier to focus on celebrities and take out that pain on them, since most of them donāt care/are used to scrutiny, and itās easy to prove they did horrible things since their lives are well-documented. I found that I was just substituting them for people that I couldnāt hold accountable in my personal life. Itās sad and seriously just so, so, so fucking miserable.
Of course, that being said, I regularly remove people from both my personal life and people I support in media. As I mentioned previously, any credible sign of CSA or rape will immediately strike a person from my life. Iām also not for outright -isms of any kind, granted there has been no apology or promise/display for changed behavior. Considering I am a human being and have made many mistakes that no longer represent me as a person, I try to offer the same grace to others, although it is actually quite difficult to earn.
4. I havenāt the slightest idea what this is for, but youāre welcome and I hope that you are well ā¤ļø
5. Non-Con is ānon-consensual.ā Itās a catch-all term for the depiction ofĀ dubious and non-consensual sexual/romantic acts. Commonly seen on hard No lists for obvious reasons.
6. I unfortunately donāt remember where exactly I saw this, but it was through an anonymous submission on Twitter. Iāve been in this fandom for too long to track those things very well, Iām afraid. Like I said, I donāt personally know her, but considering how sympathetic she was to the rest of the community and the fact she said she didnāt blame people for not wanting to forgive him, Iām inclined to believe it wasnāt just a stan making something up.
7. Iām very glad that I can be a small part in helping. I wish I could do more. I hope you get some relief from some of that uncertainty and pain soon. Best of luck, my love ā¤ļø
8-10. Oh my god, the struggle. Iāve always done the same thing lmao! My boyfriend/family makes fun of me for it so much, but Iāve mostly gotten them to stop doing it. Learning words via reading is admirable - and how most people who speak English as a second language learned!
That being said, people also make fun of me for saying ājifā instead of āgifā, which is basically a crime š By the way, while I was writing this message, my cat has been screaming non-stop behind me, trying to get my attention.
11-12. Youāre so sweet, but please sleep/work! I will still be here. The anticipation will make it even better. Thank you for your funny and kind message(s) - I hope to have two new works to put up soon-ish (within the next week, hopefully).
Iām doing a fic gift swap with some friends, so Iām working on that piece right now (which I plan on posting), then Iāll be back to H2M!
Also, that line makes me laugh whenever I think about it. I used to make it all the time with my boyfriend, who is 7 years older than me (he hates the age difference lmao). Itās funniest because Iām actually not into the DaddyDom kink, but I recognize that other people are, so I include it regularly. That line is fucking hilarious tho.
Thanks everyone! Stay safe and as well as you can be ā¤ļø

Stuffing canons for Vishnal, Arthur and Dylas - Rune Factoy 4
I was asked to do some of these a while back when I didnāt have anonymous asks on and the person who asked for them wished to remain anonymous. So here they finally are, ready to share with you guys.
Vishnal:
-Vishnal rarely overeats. As one of the three butlers in the castle, he must be formal, courteous and proper at all times; everything is set to a tight schedule with each job or chore in its rightful place. This includes of course breakfast, lunch and dinner.Ā
-He eats regularly at set times and rarely misses out, however I do think that the butlers, when in polite company must eat after the guests and do so without complaint. Oftentimes, the company stays at the castle rather late and the butlers must clear away the table before they themselves eat leaving Vishnal to daydream about the wonderful meal heāll be able to enjoy after a hard dayās work.
-His stomach will moan quietly to itself as he thinks and often Vishnal will daydream so much that he makes a clumsy mistake and falters. Yes this earns a scolding from Volkanon but the poor thing is hungry so heās let off, he dreams of being happily full on fancy food.
-Luckily the butlers of the castle are not treated like slaves and do indeed want to be there. This means that their meals will also be nutritious and filling. Vishnal often only eats until his belly feels weighted and comfortably full as it means he does not have to sit through the post meal consequences of overindulgence and will in fact be able to continue with his tasks without his belly weighing him down. This of course is un-ideal.
-When comfortably full, Vishnal will rarely belch and his stomach will be settled. Although I picture him having a weaker tummy I do not see it being very gassy when fed the correct amount, for which the young butler is grateful. Overindulgence is a different matter however.
-On the odd occasion where he does overeat it will be when the food is too delectable to stop in his feasting. Perhaps he loses track or simply just cannot get enough of the food put before him. He realizes how much he has eaten only after his uniform begins to pinch at his middle and the butler looks dumbfounded at his rounded belly; blushing at his lapse of refinement, even when alone in the room.
-Vishnalās belly cannot hold as much as some of the gameās other bachelors but when bloated, becomes obvious due to his skinny body and tight uniform. It rounds at the base and becomes taut to the touch.Ā
-He will voluntarily overeat on three occasions: 1. If he gets involved in the eating contest, which he canonically does each year in the game. 2. If his S/0 were involved. For example if they had a kink for it or they made him a ton of home cooked food that neednāt go to waste and he desperately wanted to impress them. 3. If he were to be demanded to overeat by a higher up. The poor butler would have to comply whether heād like it or not.
-When stuffed Vishnalās stomach becomes rather loud and quick to complain, full of gas and susceptible to random, embarrassing belches. The butler cannot belch loudly at all and in fact is embarrassed by how stifled and struggled they sound when stuffed...then again, he only really belches at all when his belly feels like a rock on his lap. Imagine Kiel and Arthur being able to belch louder than you! Unimpressive to say the least.
-The skin on his belly is sensitive to the touch and moving a finger gently around his swollen abdomen in circles will make him shudder and recoil in secret delight. Not many people know of this.
-He likes belly rubs from his s/o and will often lie on his back in the bedroom in a way that seems as though he is begging for them, pleading eyes and all. Sometimes heāll gently push his tummy out to meet the hand of his s/o for the rubs. Vishnal is submissive mostly and allows his s/o to snuggle and lay on top of his stomach but will blush like mad when they accidentally push up some of that contained gas as a belch.
Arthur:Ā Ā
-Arthur usually forgets to eat because heās so invested in his work all of the damn time. Maybe this has had an effect in shrinking his poor, neglected stomach? This may be the case but I personally like to think that Arthurās tum can stretch a little to accommodate more food.
-He rarely overeats but has been known to do so. Like with Vishnal and the other boys he does enter the annual eating competition despite knowing that he canāt eat as much as some of the other contestants.Ā
-Other times when Arthur overeats its because heās being forcibly stuffed by Porcoline as a punishment for forgetting to eat and possibly wasting good food. Iām pretty sure thereās a scene where Porco is chasing the poor prince to get him to take a break, for some reason my mind always goes back to the idea of the chef stuffing him to the brim. You know Porcoline wouldnāt stop until Arthur is fit to burst.
-Another reason that the prince will stuff himself to bursting is when he has forgotten to eat for a fairly long time and heās so famished and weak that he must eat something now. Heās been in his office working away for days and consequently been missing all of his meals. Even Dylasā incessant knocking on his door with food platters hadnāt roused him. In this instance, the prince will wander into the restaurant in the next room and order a lot of anything. Eating rapidly, though in a refined manner will see to filling his stomach properly. In a trance he would eat until his belly feels bloated, sore and very heavy. Luckily his robes arenāt too tight and so his gut isnāt noticeable to anyone but himself...and Porcoline who watches intently, a smug smirk planted across his face.
-Arthur hates being stuffed because it interferes with his work plans, all he wants to do is sleep and rest his large, uncomfortable belly as he wills it to digest away. He cannot work on a full belly and due to it making him sleepy he cannot pull one of his usual workaholic all nighters.
-Often the prince finds that a couple of large onigiri are enough to fill his belly, or at least quieten it down and therefore, the prince assumes that he is full. Onigiri are some of his favorites because they are quick and easy to eat and I quote that they areĀ ābest eaten on an empty stomach.ā
-The prince is positively ashamed of the roundness of his gut after he overindulges and removes those robes. Oh my....Maybe itās a little bigger and rounder than he initially thought. He moves his hands around the bloated mass, framing the orb in dismay. How had he eaten so much? Arthurās skinny frame would do nothing but enhance the protruding gut too. How humiliating. Even alone, his cheeks would flush and his glasses would steam.
-Arthurās stomach is well behaved when full and doesnāt make too much noise when digesting a large meal but his belches are loud and un-princely which humiliates him to no end. His belly is not well behaved however when hungry, all it does is yell and make it known that he is starved throughout his daily workload with loud, echoing rumbles that can be heard throughout the restaurant.
-With his s/o Arthur is still very reluctant to overeat and will only do so for them should they insist. He is very embarrassed at first about letting them lay their head atop his digesting belly but will become more allowing of it over time, evidently becoming less embarrassed by the sounds.
-The prince has been known to accidentally tease and flirt in the game in a very smooth way. He is actually very suave and gentlemanly which shocked me as I expected him to be hoity-toity and snooty, if not very shy. I was very pleased to find out that my assumption was wrong.
-Going by the above comment then I would assume Arthur is the type to tease his S/o should he find out their attraction to the stomach area. He will comment more on the empty rumbles of his stomach, asking if they heard or complaining about how exhausted his stomach is.Ā āIt appears my stomach would agree with me this time. I am famished.ā When he is full he may take his s/oās hand and place it atop his stomach, commenting about the hungry sounds stopping and showing them just how much of a dent the food made in his gut.
Dylas:
-Of the three bachelors suggested to me in this ask, Dylas is the one that can eat the most and the one that most frequently stuffs his gut to bursting. The horse man has quite the strong and sturdy stomach and can eat quite a lot. His capacity I would say is possibly twice as much as Vishnal, of course Doug would have a similar capacity as his rival. I secretly like to believe that he can eat the second most of all 6 bachelors with Doug coming third and Leon coming first; thereby humiliating the rival duo.
-Dylas is canonically competitive and like all of the other guys enters the annual eating competition where he aims to not only win, but more importantly beat Doug! We luckily get a stomach growl from Dylas in this event before the contest which proves that he has been preparing to eat a whole lot by going hungry for a while before. Of course he denies preparing for the competition until his belly gives him away and he becomes embarrassed, quickly ending the conversation. Typical tsundere.
-Of course Dylas pushes himself to be better than Doug with whom he has a healthy rivalry, which unknowingly brings him out of his shell little by little. He will likely eat very quickly and constantly during this competition, glancing at his rivalās belly and comparing the increasing size with his own in secret.
-He realizes that heās at his limit when swallowing food becomes a chore and eventually pains him. His stomach moans and churns as it unwillingly accepts more and more of the oncoming meal. Dylas knows heās nearing his limit.Ā Sweat drops appear on his face as he struggles. He undoes his belt to allow his belly to surge forward, gas pooling and flooding upwards and escaping from his mouth in a long, lowĀ āBuuuuOOOooooOoooARrrrP!ā The horse man blushes and winces but continues, he has to win!
-Dylas can belch the alphabet but is too embarrassed to do so. He often stifles his belches as best as he can with them being so deep and powerful as he sees them as rude. He will however belch softly in compliment after a big meal provided by his s/o or Porco. Should his s/o enjoy his belches, he will not stifle them though this may occur later on in their relationship. When competing with Doug he is not afraid to attempt to belch louder than him...which he can.
-By the end of his needless stuffing, Dylasā belly is swollen out like a globe on his lap and he leans back, groaning and clutching his belly. Heād secretly wish for stomach rubs and curse inwardly at himself for being so stupid. He bought this upon himself after all. this is the only time I can see him overindulging this much willingly.
-Dylas has a very disruptive stomach in general. Itās not sensitive but it is very loud due to its strength. His digestion is loud and grumbly and embarrassingly enough, his hunger rumbles are even louder. But Dylas can digest almost anything, is not very susceptible to food poisoning or stomach bugs and can eat things that most of the other can not.
-The horse man does not like being overly stuffed and would prefer to eat a reasonable amount, if not just a little bit overly full. He canāt move with a huge, protruding belly and cannot focus on an empty, growling stomach. May as well eat enough to keep himself going for a while right?
-He finds satisfaction in filling himself up on the fish he catches as it feels like he is living off the land and providing for himself in the process. He also secretly loves the roundness of a comfortably full belly. It makes him realize how grateful he is to be in such a welcoming town and not out hungry somewhere.
-Like Arthur, Dylas is often stuffed by porco but nowhere near as much. Dylas actually eats when it is meal time after all.Ā
-He is easily embarrassed by his growling stomach and full stomach respectively apart from when in an eating contest/endurance contest with Doug. In cases of his rivalry, he is proud of his belly and how he is able to stand against the dwarf....that is until he returns home and the nausea kicks in and he is left feeling a little less like the champion he originally felt like.
-The waiter will end a conversation or leave the room if his belly is growling too loudly or if he is being teased about the bloating or lack there of in his stomach.
-In regards to a s/o that has a belly kink, Dylas would take time opening up and would allow them to do things at a very slow pace. Maybe he starts with letting them listen carefully to the groans and rumbles. Maybe then he moves onto letting them touch his belly and finally heāll allow for belly rubs and placing their head upon his stuffed gut. It will always embarrass him but eventually it wonāt fluster him so much and in the end he may even start teasing his s/o about his belly on his own accord.

Things I regret and things I wish I had done better in pushing Diversity in Books
Probably a bit self-aggrandizing... and Iām aware of that. And Iām aware most people wonāt believe me, but I have documentation. (I also pushed diversity in Korean dramas a bit, too lol, but thatās much more subtle and harder to prove.) Short version: I helped pull a lot of the strings on the internet about the discussions of diversity and writing from about 2004 (November 2004)
Loose background:
I have always been more diverse than the people around me. And Iāve always felt disaffected from being able to understand my own diversity completely as an adoptee. Being Highly Intersectional, but often disconnected, also makes me super stubborn on representation over other people.
I am also from a line of advocates on all sides of my family.
And no, Iāve never been particularly good at being āniceā. Kind, yes. Nice, no. So people have always felt split about me from the time I was born, I suppose.
Disclaimer:
Some of this might be retconning a bit... just a bit. But unintentionally. All facts are true as I can document/remember them.
Introduction:
So, Iāve always had my eyes on writing diversity, but never quite felt qualified to write it when I was younger, and being adopted, I was raised by a white family. So most of my characters from extension of exposure, ended up white and were female and a few were gay, but being ace spec, and in the dark about it, I didnāt know how to write that. (Incidentally also a sucker fro Rom Coms.) But Iām quite stubborn and quite detailed when it comes to such things, so tried my best with what I had and did not cross.
Internet hit, and frankly, I spent the majority of it on Sailor Moon in the early years. Also arguing down Adoption lawyers from using triggering statements in their āadsā to adoptive parents on listserves, etc. (Adopted to a Jewish family and Korean, so top notch arguing skills is a must. [I joke, also insiderās joke])
Nanowrimo hit, and I learned that asexuality is a real thing, which was also a part of me, but they didnāt acknowledge gray-aces until much, much later. I was inquiring about it in November 2004 (Finally looked up the date)... (so AVEN lies their butts off about that because I remember the first aces out were sex repulsed, aro aces. Not a spot of gray out there.)
Since about 2005? Nanowrimo I started compiling lists of links to various information, since it started to repeat from the previous year. Every year until about 2008-ish... I compiled links for Nanowrimo for resources on how to write various groups. The fights all went in the same exact direction.
I also from about the beginning started compiling Banned Books list by category and every year posting that thread, which was also exceedingly popular. I did it to expose the stupid reasons that books are banned, which mostly were on diversity.
I also was the one that started the āAbove Belowā in writing forums form. (I took it from ASMR--A Sailor Moon Romance, who would play games like that and cross referenced it with my experience at Canisius College Summer Writing Camp and used the rules from there. I did it because Nanowrimo at the time didnāt have a critique section, so me and another person discussed it in PMs first, and then I started the thread in an āotherā section. (I still have the rules from the *original* post on my computer, which have since gotten corrupted.) Nanowrimo also had word limits, so I had one for first page with a strict 250 word limit and eventually after Miss Snark, one for query letters (which Iām exceedingly good at. I won Miss Snarkās contest, but for a while thought I lost, until I saw the Nanowrimo boards to show I won. lol Iām sued to rejection.)
Also started compiling the Writing Survey questions in about Year 3 and ran it, gathered statistics, etc about Nanowrimo and the writing population.
People hated me. People liked me too... since I spent a ton of time helping people. The PoC threads, out of the diversity threads, were always the most contentious. (Also in other writing forums too... often populated by white Moderators who didnāt know why associating black people watermelon and porches was racist as anything... *cough* Critique Circle *cough*)
So... given that background...
What Did I Do wrong:
- Probably shouldnāt have bit at Trolls and asked people to move it along? (OK, I canāt resist the temptation still.)
- I started with thinking it was individualistic power, not systemic. I set this on the wrong course. We should have been challenging agents and editors as much as writers from the beginning. This is my bad, (though I was not alone.) I didnāt have enough study back then. I didnāt understand how systems worked.
- I probably shouldnāt have been thinking only about privileged people writing. I think that it should be own voices first, but that privileged people and outgroups should *also* be given a chance *after* a ton of research to also write people of color. Personally, itās been a bit overcorrrected in places, but yeah, I think the idea that we should teach outgroups... no. They need to do the work, the research, be insecure, and pick up the slack.
- I probably should have said no more often about diversity. No, you canāt write that. (But others should also have said no, but sometimes youāre hungry for representation.) Also my line of āReal People > Fictionā would have been greatly helpful back then.
- I did argue that YA was where most books are banned and most trends *start* in YA books, but the part that was also missed was that I also said that it spreads *from* YA, not that it should *stop* solely at YA. BTW, you do not have to write only YA as an author... Itās a demographic, not a genre. A lot of kids also read adult books. I did as a 13 year old. (When the YA section was 4 shelves at best) I think I should have pushed more for it to get into the adult section, too, because without the tools to see what itās like, how is the previous generation supposed to help kids as well? Adults are not hopeless.
- I also think I should have instituted better ways of discourse around diversity, but itās not like anyone was cooperating with it. Argue with resources, reliable sources, back it with fact, not truthiness.
- I also think I should have argued that if you have NO ONE in your life of that diversity... HANDS OFF. Not the token friend, but someone who comes around *often* to you *house* you *regularly* talk with and interact with. Being more adamant about that might have helped. If you never read anything from that group and yet still want to write them HANDS OFF. If you think all _blank_ of that group are terrible people... also HANDS OFF. If your only interaction with the country and the people is through dramas and pop culture... HANDS OFF.
- I really needed the words Implicit Bias, not just Privilege. Also needed Privilege Qualifying too. White Tears also would have been useful. Stereotype Threat... OK... I needed more Social Justice vocabulary.
- I should have learned that everyone has privilege, but itās how you use it that matters sooner... It took me a while to get there. And I wrote it out first... as far as I know, and spread it around.
- I also have smaller regrets like... the use of Caucasian... I pressed MTV Decoded for a video on it. Also on the history of āSubmissiveā Asian.
- Also wish I had written a better code of conduct on how to interact with people with Diversity so they donāt get mentally drained better.
- I think I should have argued better for Diversity within, not stereotypes outside looking in. (This is currently missing from a lot of the Diversity workshops on writing--the stories that donāt hit the bell curve neatly. Fi~~~x it.)
- I also think trying to force convert authors was wrong (and is still wrong). If they do, they do, instead.... I should have bolstered support from the System itself and from authors of that identity, without locking out privileged authors that wanted to try. Let the authors that try and flop, push back flounder so others can learn from them. I donāt abide by canceling before release UNLESS there is a very good reason they shouldnāt profit. You can cancel them by not buying their book.
What I Did Right:
- I did ask Writing Forums to institute a Diversity policy that was more specific like the writing conventions. (Still looking at you Nanowrimo, Critique Circle, Absolute Write and Wattpad.) AND to have administration at the very top of the forum that was not white OR at least very educated on those topics (Head of forums should get paid... unless they started it themselves). But to have boards to review problems with diversity discussion. (And I know itās not for everyone and itās exhausting, but power representation is something we need.) Itās not bad to ask those in power to be educated on the problem and not make weak excuses on why they canāt do it, and then ban people for challenging them on diversity. *cough* Iām STILL asking that all writing forums are specific on diversity and prejudices and ban all prejudiced swears because from the Nanowrimo survey shit, fuck, dick, ass... are *less* offensive than prejudiced swears. And people can self-censor and can look it up.
- I know I was late to ask for it, but yeah, asking Editors and Agents to be *educated* before making a call for diversity isnāt a bad thing. (Lots of studying to get here.) I know they canāt change their sexuality, skin color, disability status, etc. BUT being able to list books from what you are asking for and ones that are not all privileged-qualifying would show you know your stuff. A quick way, BTW, to get a hold of countries is to read Folklore... I know this from lots and lots of reading and studying foreign media. Story structures, deeper beliefs, etc, can often be found there, plus they are quick to read. I know I wasnāt the first on this... Lee and Low pressed for it a lot, but I tried to extend it.
- I asked for end to end diversity. Every single part of the bookstore should have diversity in it. Iāve been going to the bookstore at least once a year since I was 13, scanning how the market has shifted and changed. I know authors counsel that by the time you see it on the shelf the fad is gone... but thatās not what I was looking for. I was looking for diversity, for gaps that people hadnāt filled yet. I want the cookbook section to have worldwide cooking. I want the economics books to have PoC names in it--even if I might never write or buy one. Because mirrors are important. I know this. If women can spread to the entire bookstore without question, then so can all of the other authors and sections. Iām still frickinā asking for this. I know how much it hurts writers to not be able to find non-fiction books on their own identity.
- I insisted on research as the best route to get there. Not write what you know, explore what you donāt know. (But a lot of writers are lazy about research... if you are going to write diversity thatās not your own, then no.) If youāre not willing to put a yearās worth of work into deprogramming, itās not worth your time to even touch diversity topics.
- Insisted that Diversity people are not trends. (Though I wish Iād pressed this more). Again, conquer the ENTIRE bookstore so itās not a question. Itās an answer. Books are there to answer things in my PoV.
- I spent a lot of time trying to learn perspectives and listen to people and dissenting within.
- I donāt regret challenging We Need Diverse books for being a-holes about rolling back on the dream of diverse books end to end by saying Diversity only for YA and challenging them to do better on adoption discussions with an adoptee at the helm who is defogged. If Iām unpopular for calling them out to do better, so be it. Again, conquer the entire bookstore. Donāt be afraid to dream big so the movement has a place to go, and donāt make a movement solely for your benefit.
And personally... I think book sellers should stop trying to cater to the 40% market of male readers who read only 1 book a year by insisting on more male characters... but thatās me.
But this is me... still wishing to have my dream come true that when I go to any part of the bookstore, go to a movie theater, listen to music, that I know diversity is represented there without anyone batting an eyelash at its existence. Itās not always going to benefit me. Sometimes it might actually hurt. But Iām OK with that if I canāt leverage my privileges always... Iāll cheer for it... because it means someone who was like me as a kid, and them as an adult can finally see themselves in the media they consume. And truly, this lifts my heart.

Part 5: The Email
Just before Halloween, my husband got an email from my father. This in and of itself wasn't an unusual occurrence. They email back and forth fairly regularly, which was actually a major surprise to me when I found out, five years or so into our marriage, because my father never emails me. In fact, he barely speaks to me, nothing really outside of the standard "obligatory holiday phone call" cadence. He never has. He's never really shown much interest in me, nor my sister, but here he was exchanging regular emails with my husband. My sister and I just assume that my father always wanted boys. It definitely feels that way. He briefly sent me a flurry of emails during the Democratic primary when he saw me complaining about Biden (I'm a Bernie gal), but that was the extent of our communication for probably six months at least.
My father and my husband have few things in common, but the one thing they do share is time spent working in the same industry. My father worked in radio in Rochester in the 1980s, and my husband currently works in radio and has, ironically, spent some time on the same station my father was on. They know a lot of the same people. They talk "shop" fairly often, with my father still stuck in an 80s mentality, basically a lot of "it was better back in the day" kinds of stuff, and he is completely obsessed with Rush Limbaugh and other right-wing monsters. Mostly my husband just humors him, and it's not always just about radio. Sometimes it's about local politics or sports.
This was not one of those emails. It was a photo of one of my father's friends holding their new grandbaby, with the message, "It appears that all kids aren't paranoid, punitive pricks...Ā not naming any names...."
My husband is a sweet man, and he replied, "Oh my, whose baby?"
What follows is the rest of the email exchange:
------------------------
My father: Their kids'. This is a happy grandparents post.
My husband: Very cute. Yeah... things suck. I hate this. I donāt like being in the middle and I canāt obviously fix the issues you all have. Iāve tried, for years. As I told mom and Iāll tell you I have no issues with you all and I will make sure you see your grandkids. You can see them in person now if you wear masks or stay away from people for a couple weeks before visiting, I require that regardless of beliefs. Otherwise when this calms down Iāll happily bring them to you or make arrangements here.Ā
You guys could reach out and try to work this out with them... but ya know. š¤·āāļø
My father: Clearly (Name) and (Name) are intending to murder their grandchildren and their kids must not be onto them.
No, I get where I stand... all of us Nazis do.
My husband: I didnāt call you that, and Iām not calling you that, and I get youāre angry but Iām not the issue here nor am I your enemy.
My father: I'm not angry. I accept reality, adjust, and move on. I've moved on.
My husband: We all make choices. I donāt like yours but thatās irrelevant clearly.Ā
Let me know if you want to see them and how. Iāll make it happen the best I can.Ā
My father: I'm good.
------------------------
So, yeah. Let's review, shall we?
My husband has been trying to maintain open lines of communication between all of us for years. He has said multiple times that they're free to visit if they follow proper masking and socially distancing procedures (which, again, just to reiterate, are state law). Neither myself nor my husband called them Nazis, by the way. That was something that apparently happened between my mother and my sister. But facts and context seem not to matter to my parents.
So my father, out of nowhere, decides to be a sarcastic prick (not even remotely out of character for him. That's basically his entire personality). He does this to the one person who has been nothing but pleasant and accommodating to them. He again refuses to communicate with me, the person he should actually be upset with (I mean, it's not like he has a valid reason to be upset with me, either, but I'm the one in an argument with his wife/my mother, not my poor, long-suffering husband). We assume this is a "man of the house" situation, where "the little woman" is irrelevant.
But he's not mad, though. Nope. Not at all. He's totally over it. He's so over it that he took the time to send a dickish email, complete with photos. And he's definitely good with not seeing his grandkids. So good that he had to send the email. Totally good with the choice.
1. Liar.
2. If he's actually all good with not seeing his grandkids (again, his own choice. We never said they couldn't), I mean, what an incredible piece of shit he is.
But I know that. I've always known that. I've always known that he was an arrogant prick who has to be the center of attention, who only knows how to communicate by picking on everyone around him, by being a bully, and who doesn't actually care about anyone or anything. And he just proved it.
About three days later it would be my mother's turn to prove it.

So, Waitress is closing and Why I am Happy about that: An Exceedingly long essay Rant about Broadway
Look. Nobody's gonna read this, most likely, but it's 2 in the morning and my brain's been obsessing over Broadway (more than usual, anyway) since communing with my people at intensive this week. So, in the interest of getting some sleep before 8 hrs of dance and shitty high notes tomorrow, here goes.
I love classic, high-school-and-community standard musicals. I love new and experimental musicals. I love Disney film-to-stage musicals. I love institution musicals like Chorus Line, Cats, and Wicked; I even have a soft spot for Phantom. I am eagerly anticipating West Side Story next Christmas (seriously, I have a calander).
BUT.
As I said to one of my fellow dancers during post-class stretch (after noting his insane flexibilty and making yet another resolution to stretch more) I am Sick to GoDAMnEd DEATH of revivals, franchise adaptions, and restagings taking up the Broadway and greater theater markets.
I get why it's happening; I do. Musical theater, even shows that never make it out of Regional productions (Be More Chill, btw, I'm so proud of you bby :'-D ) are REALLY FREAKING EXPENSIVE, not just to stage, but also to develop. Broadway productions nowadays regularly go upwards of TENS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS in costs.
Those costs are more and more frequently being met through funding by large groups of wealthy investors, who can expect basically little to no return on that investment. Only a select few shows that make it to the Great White Way do well enough to turn a profit (let alone the kinds of numbers that Hamilton, DEH, and Wicked continue to make), and more and more shows are closing in defict or once they break even. (Coincidentally, this is probably why we're seeing more and more straight plays on Broadway, especially in limited engagements. They're quicker, cheaper, and still have the same level of prestige.)
It makes sense then to assume that a show linked to an already successful property has a better chance of reaching that break-even mark, or perhaps generating a small return, than a more original idea. It's a surer bet, and we've seen it a lot these past few seasons. Anastasia, Beetlejuice, Pretty Woman, Moulin Rouge, Mean Girls... we get it. We promise. Investors want some security in an extremely and notoriously insecure market before they're willing to lay out the dough.
I get it. Everybody gets it.
And, to be fair, some of those shows are and continue to be GOOD. Tony nominees and award winners, even. But here's the problem: it's boring.
And not because I know how Act 2 ends without getting spoilers on tumblr. Unless they're younger than ten, the population of Broadway-and-musicals fans generally has a good handle on where a show's relevant plotlines are going. It's really not the wanting to know the end that keeps your butt in your overpriced red velvet seat and your eyes on the stage. It's the score, the words, occasionally the choreography, and most importantly the magicians on, off, and backstage bringing those things to life in a new and interesting way.
The antithesis of this, then, is having to watch slavish recreation of iconic scenes, lines, and characters from iconic films, presented Onstage! (TM), now with Bonus Songs! for your reconsumption. (Yes, Pretty Woman, I'm looking at you.)
Hey, I love Pretty Woman the Movie, slightly dodgy messages about feminity aside. I love it as a movie, and I really don't need to watch the knock off version of it, even if it comes in a shiny Broadway package.
Anastasia, and Beetlejuice, on the other hand, work extrodinarily well as musicals because they are NOT carbon copies of the original, somehow miraculously transplanted onto the stage.
Ironically, musicals based on original ideas are actually some of the most successful and well reviewed recent productions. Hamilton, Dear Evan Hansen, Come From Away, and Hadestown this season are all original works, and well, look at them. (Fishy, huh? Coincidence, I think the fuck not.)
Recently I got to see The Prom on Broadway, the day after I saw Pretty Woman. The contrast between shows and my enjoyment of them was well defined. I couldn't look away from The Prom, despite many of the major story beats being as obvious as our Cheeto-in-Chief's spray tan. I and the entire rest of the theater were completely engaged by what was going on onstage, both comedically and dramatically. At Pretty Woman, I found myself checking the Playbill to see how many songs were left for me to make it through and anxiously comparing the size of my thighs to the dancers onstage to pass the time (ah, pre pro Body Issues, welcome back! We all thought you'd retired!)
Three guesses which show I'd choose to see again.
When I read that Waitress was closing, the first thing I did was panic and start marking pre January weekends where I would both be free and possibly have disposable income (I've never gotten to see the show, and frankly I would like too). My second reaction was, yes, to mourn the closure of a wonderful show, but it was mixed with hopeful anticipation. Waitress had a good long time in the sun, and just like a well lived life, eventually it must and should end. It's better, in my humble student opinion, to live with memories and cast albums (and regional productions) than the stodgy life of a show that's jealously clung to its Broadway berth through the tourist-and-date-night trade (*cough*Phantom*cough*). It's sort of like your 40 something mother taking selfies in booty shorts in an effort to prove she's still 'hip' and in her twenties. Cringe.
Ephemera is the nature of live performance, and probably part of its allure. And just like in the natural world, old things have to end so that new things can become. Waitress closing is a vital part of this cycle.
Broadway has a limited number of theaters. That's a hard and absolute fact. Maybe a quarter of them are effectively taken off the market for new shows by productions apparently cursed with immortality. Waitress has just opened up another spot both physically and creatively for a new project- hopefully something we haven't seen before- and I hope to God, Satan, and Sondheim that it doesn't get filled with another franchise spinoff, celebrity jukebox musical, or -Lin Miranda forbid - yet another revival.
Why the revival hate, though? Aren't revivals an major way to revisit the landmark and important musicals of the past and bring them to a new audience?
Well, yes. They are, especially when they're staged and presented with the emphasis on letting the music and words speak for themselves and giving the actors leeway to work with the material, without the typical levels of Broadway Extra (TM) and creative meddling from the producers. (The recent Lincoln Center staging of A Chorus Line is a good example of the stripped down style I'm talking about.) But even if they have their place, once again, revivals (while valuable and cool and all that) are Something We've Already Seen.
Let's take Newsies for example. A show with a huge fan base (mostly teen, mostly girls) who I frequently see wishing for a revival.
Now, I am a raging Newsies fan. Newsies is the show that got me started on attempting to make a profession out of dance and theater. I can sing both the OBC and Live albums back to front. I may or may not have had embarrassing crushes on certain cast and characters that I will take to my grave (I'll never tell and you'll never know, mwahhaha). So, do I love and worship ever iteration of this show? Yes. Do I wish I had been able to see either the Natl Tour or Broadway productions? Hell yes, with all my heart. Do I wish the Gatelli choreography was in any way accessible for me to learn? More than I want Broadway tickets to cost less than my soul, kidney, and hypothetical but unlikely first born combined.
But do I want a Broadway revival? Hell FUCKING No.
It's over, it's done, and it lives on in reinterpretation in regional and junior productions. Good. That, to be quite honest, is where it should belong.
It doesn't need to be rehashed on the biggest stages, and to be frank, neither do most of the ultra popular revivals that have been happening. (Yes, Ali Stoker is awesome and deserves the world, but Broadway does not need Oklahoma. If you need to see it that bad, go find a high school production somewhere. I recommend the midwest.) Broadway does not need 1776 (even though I am looking forward to it). Broadway does not need a Sweeney Todd revival (even though I want one like I want ice cream after suffering through jazz class in an un-air-conditioned studio on a 90 degree afternoon with no breeze. Seriously, I might be making sacrifices at my altar to this cause in the back of my closet).
Broadway needs musicals that are at least nominally original, and if not, come from something obscure enough (Kinky Boots, Waitress, Newsies) that they can make their own way. Barring that, investors, writers, and directors, please have the courage and decency to take established content in a new direction. Please, I'm begging you. I'd honestly-and-truly much rather sit through something that didn't try to shove the better version of itself down my throat even as it bored and annoyed me to tears. If I'm going to pay $80+ to sit through two hours of something terrible (and less engaging than my dancer body image issues) at least let me get my money's worth in unique horribleness.

Aurora || Chapter 2
> Aurora Masterlist <
Pairing: Park Seonghwa x OC
Word Count: 2.6k
Warnings: none
A/N: This is probably the longest chapter of anything I have ever written, wow. Seonghwa makes his first appearance in this chapter, thatās all Iām going to say.Ā I hope you enjoy! - Admin Soomi
Ā° AUFREGUNG Ā°
-> excitement, anxiety, commotion
When she woke up the next morning and took a look in the mirror, she could only sigh at her appearance. Her mother was only joking at dinner but after a night of restless sleep, the circles under Yeseulās eyes seemed a lot more prominent than usual. She put on a light layer of casual makeup to hide the fatigue on her face.Ā
Her mother had already left for work and even though it was very early in the morning, she had left her a reassuring note, a lunch box, and a small plate of fresh pancakes on the kitchen table. She hadnāt eaten those in ages! Her father used to make them every Sunday but after moving to Seoul, eating pancakes became nothing more than a pleasant memory. Yeseul dug in and despite her stomach demonstrating a little because of her nervousness, she tried to enjoy her special breakfast as much as she could. They were different than the ones they ate in Germany, but she appreciated that her mother had taken the time to prepare them for her.Ā
After finishing her meal and once more making sure that she looked presentable, she went on her way to the agency. Lucky for her, the building was only a few subway stops away from her home so it took her about 20 minutes to reach her destination. The first thing she noticed, was the 7/11 on the ground floor next to the agencyās entrance. That would surely prove to be convenient.
Yeseul hesitated at the door that would lead her to KQ Entertainment. First, her excitement and anxiety were fairly well balanced, but within a few seconds, the latter doubled and overpowered her. This was her dream but all the doubts and worries she had managed to push away last night, came crashing down on her again. She closed her eyes for a second and took a deep breath. Before she could let her thoughts get the better of her, she pressed the doorbell. No turning back now.Ā
āHello?ā āUhh, hello. Iām Hwang Yeseul and I have an appointment for 8 am.ā God, why did that sound she was here to see a doctor? Stop overthinking, she quickly reprimanded herself. āAh, yes! Come up please.āĀ
The door buzzed and she hesitantly entered the building. The stairway she found herself in was bright, mostly white and grey but a few potted plants made sure it didnāt look too sterile. She walked up to the 3rd floor where she was greeted by a man who introduced himself as Kang Haejun, the same person she had talked to on the phone last night. He was a head taller than her, a bit chubby and addressed her with a warm smile that reached his eyes. āWelcome, Iām glad to see you! Please follow me, the CEO is ready to talk to you.āĀ
Yeseul followed him through the office. She politely greeted a few people but didnāt have a lot of time to look around. The place wasnāt very big but she assumed they occupied more than this one floor as she hadnāt seen any practice rooms or studios yet. At the far end of a corridor, Mr. Kang knocked on a door and sent her inside after getting a short āCome in.ā from the other side.Ā
She carefully entered what she realized to be the CEOās office and closed the door behind her.Ā
A man behind the desk stood up and motioned for her to sit down. As soon as she took her seat opposite him, she suddenly felt very vulnerable. The CEO seemed like a friendly man but he was still the person who would be in charge of her future, whose hands sheād be putting her career in.Ā
āIām Kim Gyuwook and as youāve already heard, we want you to train under our agency. Iāve got the contract prepared but Iād like to discuss the conditions and rules with you beforehand. Itās also very important to me that I get to know my trainees a little before I allow them to start training. So, I have a few questions.ā Yeseul nodded shyly and he continued. āDonāt be nervous, though, I wonāt interrogate you.āĀ
He pulled out a piece of paper which she recognized to be the profile she had sent in with her application.Ā
āYour profile says you speak English, German, and Korean fluently.ā āYes. I grew up bilingual, my mother is Korean and my father German. I also started learning English at a very young age.ā "Do you speak any other languages?ā āI learned French in school but I donāt speak it too well anymore. I forgot everything except for the basics after graduating, to be honest.āĀ
The CEO let out a small laugh. āI feel like thatās a common theme for French learners somehow.āĀ
He took a few notes before going on.
āAre you working right now or studying at university?ā
āI currently work part-time at a convenience store. I already talked to the owner and I can schedule my shifts in a way that they wouldnāt coincide with practice hours.āĀ
āThatās good. Now, why exactly do you want to become a trainee, or rather, an idol?ā
She knew that question would be asked eventually and she had thought about how she would answer countless times before. āBack when I lived in Germany, I discovered K-Pop when I was going through kind of a rough patch. The music helped me become a happier person again and inspired me to become a singer. I want to stand on stage and give the same kind of encouragement and motivation to other people.āĀ
āIām sure youāre aware that this wonāt be easy. You might not actually debut anytime soon. In fact, thereās a chance you might never debut. It all depends on you and your determination.ā
āIām willing to go through it and take the risks if it means I get to do what I love and dream of.ā
āVery well.ā He gave her a satisfied smile and moved on.Ā
āItās not a secret that all entertainment companies have a variety of rules for their trainees to follow and we are of course no exception. They are all mentioned in the contract but I would like to go over them with you so that there wonāt be any misunderstandings.ā Mr. Kim handed her a list of regulations and explained each of them thoroughly.Ā
Yeseul was allowed to have a cellphone but usage during classes and schedules was not permitted. She was also not allowed to post on social media from now on.Ā
Trainees were not allowed to date at all and artists had a dating ban until two years after their debut.
However, they didnāt care too much about keeping their male and female trainees apart, unlike other companies she heard of that wouldnāt even let them be in the same room together. āYou know, how it works. If you forbid them, they will try to meet in secret all the more. Thereās nothing wrong with making friends but if we do notice anyone getting too distracted though, we will take appropriate measuresā, he explained.Ā
No smoking, drinking, or taking drugs. That one was fairly obvious.Ā
The part she was wondering about the most was the weight regulations. āThere will be weekly weigh-ins. There is a weight range stated in your contract that you should stay in. We expect our trainees to be able to take care of appropriate calorie intake and healthy workout on their own. Unless you exceed that range or fall below it, we wonāt be regulating your diet or putting you on a work-out routine.āĀ
She considered that a fair amount of freedom.Ā
Yeseul also had the choice to move into a dorm with some of the other female trainees but she decided not to as she didnāt live too far away from the company anyway.Ā
āNow, letās talk about your training schedule. I donāt think I need to tell you that your vocals are great. Thereās always room for improvement but you already have a good technique and stability.ā Yeseul had taken singing lessons for a few years and actually felt fairly confident when it came to that. She dreaded what she knew was coming next, though.Ā
āHowever, your dancing is lacking.ā She looked away in embarrassment. She had made sure to practice and learn a few basics before auditioning but she was well aware that she was definitely not very talented.Ā
āThereās potential, donāt worry. Itās nothing our dance teachers canāt fix. Some of our trainees started out way worse and managed to become decent dancers. Youāll just have to practice a lot more than others. Which is why you will also be taking more dance classes than singing classes to get you on one level with the others.āĀ
That made sense. āIn addition to that, you will also be taking Japanese, acting, and modeling classes. Evaluations are once a week, every Saturday, and you will be recording demos in the studio every second week. Lessons in general start at 2pm every day as most of the trainees still go to school in the morning but you can practice on your own at every time of the day. Sundays are off.āĀ
He slid her a piece of paper with her schedule. Today, she would have vocal lessons at 2pm and dance lessons from 4pm to 8pm but as there were evaluations, she would only be watching and starting the real training on Monday.
āBe aware that if you donāt meet our expectations during evaluations or break any of the rules, the contract will be terminated.ā
She voiced her understanding and after a few more questions from the CEO, he handed her the contract and showed her where to sign. She read through everything twice as he watched patiently, then signed, ready to start this new part of her life.Ā
It was almost 10am when Kim Gyuwook dismissed her from his office with a handshake and wished her good luck. She still had a few hours until vocal lessons were supposed to start so she contemplated going home and taking a nap when Kang Haejun walked up to her offered her a tour around the agency. She gratefully agreed.Ā
He showed her around the office first, introducing her to a few people she would regularly be working with personally. Everyone was busy but still found the time to give her at least a friendly smile or wave. Just like she expected, KQ Entertainment occupied multiple levels of the building. The 3rd consisted of the office and various meeting rooms. He then led her down to the 2nd floor where the practice rooms and studios were located. She couldnāt take a look inside any of the rooms yet as almost all of the trainees were busy practicing for the evaluations but she made a mental note on where she would find the rooms later. There was also a small kitchen and break rooms with sofas on both of the floors. While showing her around, Mr. Kang also answered any other questions she had.Ā
He told her that they were currently training a total of 7 trainees including her. They had about 12 male trainees but apparently, eight of them were already training separately as they would be debuting as a group sometime in the second half of the year. He also let her know that she was actually one of the oldest trainees, being born in August of 1998. It made her worry a little. She knew that most trainees started their training at a way younger age. She was 19 years old now, could that be considered too old already? Would it lower her chances of debuting? She decided not to worry too much. If she was too old they wouldnāt have accepted her in the first place.
After the tour, more detailed explanations and an extensive Q&A session it was almost 12pm. She felt a little bad for taking up Mr. Kangās time but he reassured her that it was actually his job to introduce the new trainees to everything and make sure they felt comfortable. He also gave her his number and told her to contact her if she had any more questions or worries before returning to his office.Ā
It didnāt make sense for Yeseul to go home before practice anymore. She remembered the lunch box her mother had packed her but decided to save it for later as she didnāt really feel like eating because of her nervousness. Still, she should eat at least something small, so she decided to head down to the convenience store to get a snack, something to reward herself taking this important step and to maybe even calm her nerves a little.Ā
The young woman headed downstairs into the 7/11, where was greeted by a friendly, elderly man. She bowed with a smile before she started browsing.Ā
As she walked through the narrow aisle, looking for an appropriate snack to celebrate todayās events, a group of boys entered the store. āWe should get some chips for later!ā āArenāt you on a diet?ā āHyung, donāt be like that! Iāll just work out extra hard next week.āĀ
She scanned the shelves and couldnāt help but quietly snicker at their bickering. She looked over at them for a second, counting three young men. Yeseul didnāt pay them too much attention, even though they were hard to ignore, and instead continued her search. Just as she was about to grab a chocolate bar, her eyes landed on the freezer. It was February, still cold outside, and she had just been told about the weight regulations. Was it really appropriate to buy ice cream now? Yes, it is, Yeseul decided. It was one of her comfort foods so she shrugged, opened the door of the freezer and reached up. Whoever had put her favorite ice cream on the highest shelf surely must hold a personal vendetta against her. She wasnāt tiny, only a few centimeters under average height but this was troublesome. Just as her fingertips brushed against the plastic packaging, a figure next to her reached out and handed the sweet treat to her. Yeseulās face lit up in excitement and she quickly bowed to the kind stranger. āThank you so much!ā When she looked up, she was met with the shyly smiling face of a man around her age, part of the group who had caused the commotion. He seemed quieter than the other two though, who she could still hear arguing over which snacks to get.Ā
āItās not a problem. Is Melona your favorite?ā His was voice soothing and hinting curiosity even though he was nervously rubbing his neck. She nodded eagerly in response. āYes! Itās the best thing to eat when you want to celebrate, even when itās cold outsideā¦ā She mentally scolded herself for rambling. She couldnāt help it, the sudden inquiry surprised her. Not that she minded, he seemed friendly and wasnāt overbearing at all. Yeseul could see he was about to ask what exactly she was celebrating but his two friends interrupted him.
āSeonghwa-hyung, I will buy these chips now and you canāt stop me.ā One of them said as he headed to the counter to pay. The other one motioned for your savior to come over as they were getting ready to head out. The stranger, apparently named Seonghwa, gave you an apologetic smile, you bowed and wished each other a good day before he left with his friends.Ā
Could it be that they were trainees as well? All three of them looked awfully handsome, they talked about dieting and working out, and went shopping right at this store. The fact that they were also dressed in sports clothes led her to make that assumption. At the same time, it could have just been a coincidence. At the latest, sheād find out if she ran into them at the agency.Ā
