i've been obsessed with this blog the past few days! your writing style is incredibly pleasing and i loved seeing the lore evolve over time c: and of course, i love shiverstep and the audience participation - such a neat idea! i'm excited to join upcoming silver box sessions~

you mentioned before that even shiver's plot armor is finite - i'm curious what her death would mean for the audience and whether we'd connect with someone else instead, or if her plot armor ends with the death/saving of rootgrove. i'm also curious if the latter event is the endgame for the fic or just "arc 1". having never played clangen, i don't know what the ending is, if there is one. (not expecting an answer ofc, just thinking aloud.)

Truth be told, I’m not quite sure what will happen! Clangen is a game that generates moons infinitely, as long as there’s cats in your clan - I’ve heard of some folks who’ve ran some of their in-game Clans for 1000 moons (83 years?!) but that’s the nature of Clangen! As long as you’re willing to hit the “skip to next moon” button, the game goes on forever. I have vague ideas and concepts for the Shiverstep/Rootgrove plot that I actually end up ironing out with your help, so while I do have planned “guaranteed because it’s fucking cool” story beats for that plotline, the actual details are being hashed out with help and questions asked by the audience!

Currently I don’t have a planned ending, which is…a problem xD I have a POSSIBLE ending in mind if I want/need to stop, but I feel like I’d miss these cats if I shut the door entirely!

For what it’s worth though, I do have planned arcs! Conveniently they sooort of line up with the year count? Later arcs span longer time frames, but like, Arc 1 technically ended by the end of the second Silver Box segment, and the finale of Moon 12 which I have marked as “Arc 1: World/Character setting”, currently we are on Arc 2, which I’ve dubbed internally as “The Outsiders/Endless Arc” which. Look guys I hope it wasn’t too much of a surprise that Endless is going to become A Problem LMAO

So yeah, I think Raichu and Flint are very close ! Raichu would rush to Flint everytime he comes over at Volkner's place haha ! I think Raichu also gets along with everyone in Flint's team ! I think Raichu can be kinda clingy in the way that he likes climbing on Volkner and Flint haha, and so one day I checked how much he weights and boy, 30kg sure is a lot alskdkzkd, he may be heavy but that's not stopping him

Electivire really likes Flint too, I'll probably share more about that one day ! The thing is, he's got beef with Magmortar. They've known each other for very long and yet still bicker haha

Jolteon and Flareon are the opposite, they go along suuuuper well ! I think they would look at their trainers with puppie eyes when it's time for them to separate, they can't get enough of playing with each other.

Luxray's just sleeping in any case, better not bother him XD

• About the sketch of Flint taking a picture of Volkner and Raichu :

-The idea came to me after that one event in pokemas when Lear and Gholdengo came out with Lear wanting to be sent like 100 photos representing the link between trainers and their partner or something

-I like to think Volkner got a real soft spot for Raichu haha (well also his other mons and electrik types in general to be fair) so he can be very affectionate with him, I don't think anyone would get to see too much of that in public but if it's just Flint here it wouldn't matter much XD

-I don't think Flint would often take random pics of Volkner like that but he probably thought this is like a perfect moment to take a pic for Lear's event. I mean look at how sweet him and Raichu look together ! Such a nice exemple of a close bond between trainer and pokemon !

-Unfortunately I also like to think that Volkner doesn't like much having photos taken of him without warning haha. Kinda comes from that one pokespe moment where you see Shauntal got a pic of him but he's hiding his face haha !

-I think he'd be fine with photos depending on the situation tho, like if I remember correctly he was in a photo in his new year event in pokemas and he seemed super chill with that ! I think he likes it with friends or when he is in a good mood XD But most certainly not an unprepared one like that ansksk

And how do you feel if that what happened and we get book 8 that focus on Grim and Yuu like why are they here all of that? Okay I talked so much sorry for the rambling.

As I have stated in the FAQ section of my pinned post (I kindly ask that people check that first before sending asks because I have been asked some variant of “what do you think about a potential book 8”/“how do you want book 7 to end” dozens of times; I don’t answer them because the answer is already out there but overlooked, but I feel bad for ignoring so many people 😅):

"I want to actually see Yuu going home and the current students moving on to the next year of schooling. We could focus on how the guys have grown and are growing, how these more mature versions of the characters interact with the incoming freshmen/first years, or the long-term consequences of their OBs (particularly Malleus's, which probably caused an international crisis). It would also be cool to learn more about RSA students after book 7, but I don’t want them to rehash the OB formula."

"As for a potential book 8, I don’t know if there’s enough evidence for it? Book 7 is cramming a lot in right now so it’s possible that all the loose ends will be tied up there. Book 8 also implies a strong focus on Ramhackle, which… I know we love Yuusonas and all, but the game cannot canonically fill in their backstory a ton or it will ruin player self-inserting/projection. That means we’d have to rely on Grim and Grim alone to be the emotional crux that somehow transcends even Malleus’s chapter. I think that’d be hard to pull off, especially since we'd be expecting book 8 to be even LONGER than the 290+ book 7 is. If there's a book 8 at all, it might have to be closer to prologue length...? Because even if they push the Mickey stuff and revealing Crowley's motives to a theoretical book 8, I can't imagine this would take up more parts than book 7 already has 💦"

Secondly, I don’t think “Twst ending” is… the best phrasing? It’s not like the game is going to shut down as soon as book 7 finishes. Live service games close when they’re no longer financially viable, not because they finished a main story arc. Several of these kinds of games continue the main story into a new arc—and while we don’t have any official confirmation of this for Twst, it would be just silly for a money and merch machine to be shut down for an arbitrary reason. If it's not broken, then don't axe it. I would be genuinely shocked if Twst just left the main story untouched after book 7, though it may take some time before new main story stuff comes out, as the writers would have to... you know, write. Running the servers based on events alone, especially when we are not guaranteed new story events every month, doesn't sound sustainable in the long term. There's still going to be new Twst stuff coming out for a long time between the manga, anime, and light novels too. That's at least a good couple of years.

Yk referring to the fact that he wasn't originally from Pomefiore, he just transferred there becaise of Vil---I wonder if the next dream we'll travel unto is Rook's??? Or Vil??

I mean, it can be Vil as well, since he does have Malleus magic in him when Malleus cured his aging bcs of the Underworld and he has memories of Savanaclaw Rook, and there are instances on Book 7 where the special SSR isnt necessarily the dreamer (Like Cerberus Ortho SSR).

I believe he can be a candidate of Silver's UM condition that the dreamer must "be special to Silver", I know thats pretty vague, BUT they do have the connection of having both light void magic 👀

I know its obvious Book 7's plot outline is they'll be travelling in dreams of people, so the fact Rook is next, means Savanaclaw might get the spotlight this time, I do remember there was a rumor that Leona will be important for Book 7???

I have a question. How is the dynamic with Leo and Draxum? Because in most other timelines Draxum tossed him off a roof and we do see in the show that he refuses to let him live that down. But obviously this Draxum didn't do that. Is there any lingering bitterness there or was it easy to accept that this Draxum DIDN'T yeet him off a roof.

How would Draxum feel if he learned another him did that lol?

Leo and Barry actually have a pretty good relationship, which is really all thanks to the Draxum in Leo's own timeline.

Baron Draxum was an important figure in the Resistance, and over the years grew very close to the turtles. Leonardo was always the most distrustful of the four brothers when it came to Barry; they have an incredibly complicated history after all.

But eventually, the old sheep man managed to crawl his way through Leo's defenses, and by now old grudges have long since been left in the past. (That doesn't mean Nardo didn't still poke fun at the whole roof thing every now and again ;P)

The hardest thing to get over was more the lost memories. Every experience the two ever had, every bonding moment? Those didn't exist in Miguel's timeline.

Leonardo didn't have a relationship with this Draxum (yet), and there are definitely times when Leo forgets that, referencing events that, according to Barry's memory, never actually happened.

And while yes it's sad, it's also actually led to some pretty hilarious interactions XD

When Barry learned that another him had indeed yeeted Leo off a roof - although really unsurprised he would do something like that considering the ruthless determination he had in his previous work - he was appalled at the idea that he would attempt something that could have so easily resulted in his son's death, had Leo's Raph not intervened so impulsively.

The narrative parallels are so fucking juicy, but a lot of it is also the respect. When Jason fights her, he has this complete and total confidence in her skills that's really compelling to me, and that could also be appealing to her if they'd ever actually talked to each other after that.

There's this sense that Jason truly believes in her, in part because he sees so much of himself in her, and so to believe in her is to believe in both of them. "We are both strong, we are both survivors, we both deserve better than serving rich boy trash who will throw us away the second they realize what it actually takes to survive."

And he's not entirely wrong to see himself in her either! Like, narrative speaking, it's very obvious that Winnick had Starlin's treatment of Jason in mind when writing her. In the same way that Speedy was the second Robin, so too is the second Speedy also the second Robin- uh the second, second Robin?? You get what I mean! Roy is to Dick as Mia is to Jason.

Furthermore, Mia is the Hero Jason could have become if only he'd had a real support system. A main theme of them when contrasted against each other is that healing requires support, willpower alone is not enough. You could build one hell of a relationship around that!

I dunno I think if Jason took a hot second to stop projecting his and Bruce's relationship onto Mia's relationship with Oliver, the actual real similarities they share could end up bringing them together.

And like, obviously Mia thinks he's a jackass at the end of this event, but I also think maybe she sees their parallels too? And idk I think it would only take a couple teamups of circumstance to get them talking and have that like mutual respect, one-sided hate, and uncomfortable self recognition in the other thing going that really makes enemies to lovers shine

I read Lonnie's first appearance and wanted to strangle Tim to death about it, and figured it could be great and cool to watch Lonnie strange Tim in a horny way instead lmao

What are your favorite things about the ship?

The potential to make Lonnie a straight up Hero once he's been wrested away from DC's cold capitalist fingers, and complicate Tim's relationship to justice through that.

Because again, in that first appearance Tim is simply flatly in the wrong. He is the villain there! Lonnie was the good guy!

And I... I just crave a story in which the way the Bats (esp Bruce and Tim) interact with wealth is brought to account and I think if we could write an enormous amount of freak gay pervert sex into that narrative it'd perfect

Devil's Briar

I didn't know about the relevant comics at the time, but I basically stumbled my way into a timeline in which after the events of No Man's Land, one of Gotham's islands never gets reincorporated into the USA and remains a no man's land indefinitely. From there a complex alliance of various villains, heroes, anti-heroes, and civilians created an anarchist commune out of the rubble.

The story centers around Tim learning about this, falling in love, and deciding to give up all his wealth and throw in his lot with them.

Which would be SO FRIGGIN GOOD as a Tim/Lonnie premise but I just didn't understand who Lonnie was at the time (or... any of these characters really lmao, I ended up using Wally instead of Bart as Tim's speedster of choice for instance) and so it's all just not quite what it should be.

Tim sits atop a gargoyle in Upper East Side and chews mechanically on a burger and fries. His mind churns as he stares out across the bridges at Devil’s Briar.

What had once been the festering heart of Gotham’s underbelly in Crime Alley and The Bowery is now a post-apocolyptic nightmare forest courtesy of Poison Ivy. She and a laundry list of villains had taken the whole island to themselves during the mass prison break at Arkham two years ago.

Nearly a hundred villains had poured into the streets of Gotham, and the entire city had been an all out war zone for months on end. A three way battle between The Joker, The Penguin, and Black Mask was nearly resolved just before The Riddler and Scarecrow had entered the mix at the behest of Two Face. Once that had been mostly thwarted both the Court of Owls and the League made a move and ended up fighting each other, the remnants of the other gangs, and the Bats all at once.

By the time anyone had the resources to do something about Ivy’s gardening project, she had already become deeply entrenched with a deadly alliance of other villains.

It doesn’t help that there are so many unknowns. Dozens of Arkham inmates, some rather powerful, are still unaccounted for. Deadshot, Manbat, Killer Croc, Zsasz, Bane. Any or all of them could be holed up in there with who knows who else. And because of Ivy’s powers, they ostensibly have all the food and water they could ever want. This is not a war that could be won by siege. Not that the city isn't trying anyways.

Red Robin is startled out of his thoughts by Oracle’s voice, “Double R, I’ve got some interesting news for you. The Red Hood just exited Devil’s Briar about five minutes ago and hailed me.”

“He’s still alive?”

“And part of Ivy’s little gang to boot! I don’t know how he’s managed not to shoot them all by now. Then again maybe that’s what this is about. He’s got a message for you, and only you. Damn near begged me not to tell any of the other Bats.”

“And you agreed to that?”

“More or less. Figured I’d send the message and let you decide. He’s nearly unarmed though, so there’s that.”

“Wonders never cease. Not that a brick wall like him is ever really unarmed. Let’s hear this message, then. I’ll probably regret it, but due diligence and all that.”

”Cynic.”

“Realist.”

She sighs, and then continues “He asked me to tell you to meet him on the roof of the Harrowood Apartment complex on 47th, and to explicitly tell you that you’re welcome to bring a friend as backup so long as they aren’t a Bat.”

Well now, that was certainly odd. Nearly unarmed, out of his territory, advanced warning, a meet location so close to Nightwing’s route that he could have backup within minutes, and an utterly unprecedented offer to bring in an outside ally. His paranoia urges him to read it as a trap, but something seems off.

Tim hums in thought and licks the last vestiges of mustard off of his gloves.

It’s just too much. Too many cards stacked in Tim’s favour. Too big a risk to take for Jason, whose paranoia sometimes outranks even Bruce’s. Either he has a serious ace up his sleeve with a serious time limit that necessitates a bait like this (highly unlikely), or…

“Oracle has there been any sign of our more, shall we say, subtle enemies involving themselves lately? Like the League or Court?”

“Nope. They’ve all got their fingers back in the usual pies, been pretty quite otherwise. Why, you have a hunch?”

“Not really, just running through possibilities.” He gets a noncommittal grunt of acknowledgment in response.

So, not them and it really can’t be the work of anyone else he’s aware of. Jason never has taken kindly to orders and it is very difficult to put a man as violent and unattached as him under duress. I mean what could they do, threaten to dull his favorite knife? Dunk his best pistol in mud?

Tim spares a small smile for that mental image and then frowns as he considers that whatever brought Jason out here of his own volition must be big. It usually took nothing short of an apocalypse to drag him into a possible team up, especially a self initiated one.

But then why just him?

Sensing that he isn’t going to get anywhere without additional information he taps his earpiece, “You still there O?”

“Sure am.”

“I’m going to make a few calls, see if one of the speedsters can come in for a minute. Don’t tell the other Bats unless things go south, and let Hood know that I’ll be there with a friend in thirty.”

I mean, I know every cookie would be going after the y/n mythic but I can imagine they'd be a recently released thing due to it being in the modern era (Because, yaknow...we are in the modern era) so I can imagine anyone barely having us...but question...who do you think the developer would be? The witches? One of the tech cookies like maybe Strawberry crepe? Got a feeling Strawberry crepe would make sense because they are good with tech and gotta get coins and crystals to build their stuff somehow! Bet it was a project they did during both their time with the cookies of darkness AND post that...and can imagine gingerbrave and his friends would LOSE THEIR MINDS if they discovered they found the creator of their favorite game lmao!

I agree! However, I just think it would be fun if the creators of the game remain anonymous. It just feels better to have that sense of mystery and keeps the lore isolated from everything else. Plus, it's fun to envision a cookie that nobody has met yet that is essentially creating a beloved "franchise" that lots of cookies play on their own devices. Plus, it doesn't have to be set in TRUE reality. Cause reality based games are a little boring, so there are some aspects that help the human run game stand out. Like, imagine that instead of dark mode, it's alternate timelines for certain eras and such. Maybe technology can be much more advanced or unique for human run. Some characters, or historical figures, can also have some differences from their IRL counterparts.

Like Nikola Telsa actually being able to wield lightning and Thomas Jefferson is his rival. Plus, all these human figures can interact with other humans from different time periods, regardless of places or origin. Especially if they are in the Cookie's Cities. (Instead of making a kingdom, the cookies make cities with their own methods of doing things and appearances. Like being steampunk, cyberpunk, authoritarian, democratic, medieval, or just simply modern!) Y/N is also popular because they are VERY rare and they are meta in the Colosseum. All the top cookie players that managed to get them soar to the upper ranks thanks to their buffs and supporting roles with the other humans. I also like to think the humans "running" from place to place is more like the cookies seeing them travel on their journey. And you can bet your buns that if Y/N had a special event, ain't shit getting done in the cookie kingdoms, cause most cookies will probably be grinding the event for even a CHANCE to get the meta mythical. Also, I think it would be hilarious if Pure Vanilla Cookie didn't play the game until he gets encouraged to by Gingerbrave and the others, and on his first 10 pulls--he gets the meta mythical. XD "Oh! What a lovely jingle! Hmm..? Gingerbrave, who is this? They look nice!" (The gingerbrave group staring with jaws dropped that PV just pulled the rarest mythical as a starting player. )

From the mezzanine, everyone looked like ants. Suguru had to squint to make out familiar faces in the crowd, and even then, the only person he could identify was a distant aunt of his that he had never really liked. Usually, he'd have been able to pick apart anyone of significance; he'd have known their name, their title, their interests. 

Suguru would've known, he always memorises the details before public events — he spends days in his room at a time, talking into the mirror and telling his reflection things about these people who he has never met. Perhaps, lately, he'd been busy with Satoru.

Suguru smiled. He didn't feel as guilty as he thought he would.

A hand clapped on his back, and he jolted. Shoko beside him, cocking a brow. “What's got you looking like a dumbass?” Her voice was flat, eyes busy scanning the crowd and Suguru knew who she was looking for.

He cleared his throat. He couldn't really tell her that he was keeping a siren in the little pond in his private garden — well, it wasn't exactly little, but that information held no relevance anyway. Shoko was his dear friend, and he knew she would always support him, but he had to keep Satoru a secret, more for her sake. Suguru bit his lip in thought. If only Satoru didn't have such a strong taste for human flesh.

“Is meat more nutritious than fish?”

“What?”

“Nevermind.” Suguru winced at the look he was being sent. He didn't mean to blurt the question out, but he'd been thinking about it for days. The salmon that he'd been feeding Satoru probably wasn't enough to sustain a creature his size — especially when he was so active — which would mean he burnt through a lot of calories very quickly. “Utahime is on the balcony,” Suguru pointed in the general direction, giving Shoko a pat on the shoulder, “good luck.”

From his peripheral vision, he could see Shoko roll her eyes as he walked away, but she muttered a small 'thanks' before she turned to find the other woman. He was glad she finally had someone to open up to other than him — he saw how happy Shoko was with Utahime, and with the burden of inheriting the throne giving her sleepless nights, it was all Suguru could want for his closest friend.

He turned his attention back to the winding flight of stairs before him. Now, to find some meat.

Which one is more openly into public displays of affection, and which one is more private?

Hypothetically, if you were to make the ship canon to IDW, how would you change the story? Any and all changes are game here :)

I think they'd both be very publicly affectionate. But I think Blurr would be the one making the move first more often, I think he'd like to brag about his partner.

However

The affection he shows publicly vs privately is different. One being more show-offy and the other more tender and sweeter, a side of himself he doesn't show to many. He also just likes to tease Swerve whenever he can in public XD.

Swerve, on the other hand, I think might be a little more reserved? Like, I know he's very open. But, to me at least, it feels like he keeps to himself a lot and any form of deep affection he'd keep it in privet. Don't get me wrong, he brags and talks about his relationship a lot to anyone who will listen (or not, let's be honest here). But he'd be too nervous to initiate it and ruin things. Though, as their relationship progress, I think he'd get more comfortable with time and maybe even try to get back at Blurr whenever he can, and seeing Blurr be speechless always makes him smile (a little too smugly XD)

As for the hypothetical.... okay, technically I'm trying to do that with my mech preg fic (sticking to canon as much as I can). But that aside... yeah, okay, that's a little harder ngl because - and it hurts me to say this as a fan of the two - it's nearly impossible to make them canon. Not without DRASTICALLY, and I do mean DRASTICALLY change the story. They're both needed for their respective narratives, if one was to join the other, it would create very catastrophic changes.

But we can make it tragic. I would say that, if they weren't in such a rush, they could have extended the encounter post Dark Cybertron between the two. Actually live up to the cover they made with the two. If they just interacted for more than a couple minutes, I'm sure they would have gotten along (or well, half only, Swerve's really gotta drop that idol admiration a little lol). They have a lot more in common than they know! And bartendering together might bring them closer. Not a perfect set up, but a start.

Blurr would start to catch some interest. But as we know, it doesn't last, because the Lost Light would soon leave.

Now, there are a couple things we could do here. We could do a BIG change and have Blurr be part of the fake auditions and actually get in. But that would mean a shit tone of stuff that needed him in Cybertron wouldn't get done, or would have been done differently. From then on, you could have the two get closer. But I don't think it fits Blurr's character to join, even if he did really like Swerve, I don't think he'd follow.

So then he stays back, but he longs for Swerve. And maybe they keep contact, pen pals and stuff, ya know? We do see that people outside of the LL can contact the crew whenever. And they can still become better friends from there. You can have some great angst when Swearth happen. Maybe Swerve stops answering messages, ghosting Blurr before suddenly coming back with some crazy story. And then the mutiny happens not long after, and Blurr is - again - ghosted... and then he sees the broadcast, and Swerve leaves a message for Blurr and that shatters him.

Now, I haven't really... seen much else beyond that? I have vague beats of events, but I don't know when they find out that the Rod team isn't dead. I think Blurr ends up dying thinking Swerve is dead. And whenever Swerve returns, well... yeah. Which just add to his loses (Skids, Ten, and now Blurr).

I don't see them ending up a happy couple in the end, too much complications and tragedy about them. They are a crack ship, after all, and they only work under specific conditions that canon doesn't really allow.

That's how I view it anyway, any other suggestions are welcomed.

And the insecurity. I know it's an obvious answer, but Swerve. Really, people have not been kind about his appearance gkskskaka (I mean, have you seen how they address his 3 fingers? Sometimes it sounds like a damn insult!) he's the one littered with insecurities.

I will say, however, that I do believe Blurr has a bit of body image issues. Being a celebrity, with your image plastered everywhere. He'd have to work hard to keep his looks and sometimes criticises himself way too harshly. Though he also cares little about what others think, it is still something hard to avoid being stuck in the limelight like that.

Just finished reading the 8th chapter of A History of Iniquity. Man, I love your takes on Messmer so much! He as a character feels like a gold mine to dig into and is such a joy to spin, imo. I'm happy that you seem to be taking an interest in him :') Speaking of all Soulsborne characters, what do you like more when it comes to drawing/writing them: a total freedom/building from a scratch or when the characters are already fleshed out in the game (for FromSoft standards, of course xd) and there are more "toys" for you to play with?

I’m going to answer your question specifically as it relates to writing, because I think that’s the more engaging take (also writing and drawing are vastly different creative exercises for me). Also caveat that I am always more interested in writing a good story than accounting for (or overexposing) every little excruciatingly minute lore detail, unless it is in favour of the narrative. 

Obviously it's nice to have a lot to work with: dialogue, environmental storytelling and descriptions of what Character X has done/built/conquered/fucked up, how they’ve communicated with other characters, shades of a timeline, etc etc (proportional to Soulsborne, of course). Personally I find evidence of interaction with other characters to be particularly useful, since it provides multiple reference points, and that’s a fair amount of scaffolding already on which to start building. Morgott is a good example in Elden Ring, as is Gehrman in Bloodborne - two characters with (comparatively) extensive lore, in-game interaction, voice lines, etc. We know what many other characters think of them, and how they in turn feel about the world around them - so it’s easier to fine tune those traits that are canonically evident (Morgott’s bitterness and catholic self-loathing; Gehrman’s stark regret and helplessness), and it provides a path to one of my favourite things in storytelling: working backwards. How did they get to where they are now? Become the person we meet in-game? This is especially rewarding with older characters, imo (for the tumblr children, when I say older I mean minimum 50+, or whatever is equivalent to a very old demigod. Like an actual life that has been lived).

HOWEVER (ᵕᴗᵕ) I think it’s a more interesting exercise to write NPCs with literally two lines of canonical info (Tricia, Huw, Caryll, etc) and a useful way to hone solid character development. It requires nuance to build someone believable (irl I’ve found the older you get and the more variety of people you meet, the easier this becomes). It takes a lot more convincing to make someone like Tricia compelling versus someone like Morgott, and working with vague or faceless NPCs means a lot of digging around their periphery. Where do they fit into the world, and when? With whom would they have interacted, fallen in with, opposed; what would they have believed? How would the narrative’s canonical events have affected them, changed them, etc etc (keeping in mind they are probably more narrowly shaped by their circumstances as well). 

To me, what makes these peripheral characters interesting is precisely the fact they are not OCs  - they are nothing like the Hunter, or the Tarnished. They are not the hero of the game, who is by definition a blank slate - and yet will, by default, encounter everyone and leave a mark on the world. At times it can feel a little like writing an OC, as there’s so little to work with - but these secondary characters do exist within certain parameters, and sometimes they’re stricter than we think. These characters will not change the world, even if they deeply affect those around them. They will toil in obscurity, stick to the sidelines, fail, be forgotten, make mistakes - though not ones that are grave enough to shake the story itself. So there cannot be that sort of limelight-bathing, grating, insufferable hero-uniqueness there is to most OCs. Instead there should be a normalcy to them, a groundedness for believability. If they are your POV or a main character in fic, they also need enough dimensionality to be fully expressed people. In truth I think that’s where I have the most fun.

Cause, this blog is directedly connected to the canon story (although the blog isn't actually canon on the story).

As soon as a chapter/episode/issue is finished, I will act as if Tom has just finished the adventure of said chapter.

Which means that, before the story starts, you guys will get to see some pre-events of season 1. Which means the day to day life of Tom in the lab.

The Blog's title will probably change as the story progresses.

The fact he is Bruce's youngest in the AU is something he wants to hide. He has severe family issues and want to forget about them. Again, you guys can tease and ask about his family, but, he will stay with his mouse closed.

A lot of the stuff he writes in the beginning is about the lab which is pretty messed up. So, be careful, there is gore, kids being tortured, and experiments that are anything but moral.

I have no canon explanation to how Tom is being able of posting into a multiversal internet, when he can't even post in the regular internet, cause the lab doesn't allow prodigies to have accounts on social media to expose the organization there. Let's all pretend it's magic, Uncle Grandpa, OC magic, or whatever.

At this point of the story, Tom's outfit isn't either of the ones in the fixed post. I still haven't done his wardrobe, so, his Green Light Lab uniform isn't available for you guys to see.

If any other roleplaying blog, OC or not, wants to interact, I am open to it, but, remember, I don't have time for complex storylines.

It would probably be like just Tom confused on how he can talk to family members of other universes, OCs of other AUs/timelines, and all his nephews and nieces.

I have this "Tom's journal" thing that is sort of canon, because, Tom is writting them in the story, but, he is writting them in a doc, not a social media.

A Discussion of Soulmagic

Verloren presented his research notes to his latest visitor as he described the process of pulling magic directly from a creature's soul instead of just the physical body, a concept that none had attempted before him. He had been explaining the exact same thing to several different people lately and more often than not he was met with disdain and skepticism. He was so tired of all these mages who seemingly couldn't embrace new ideas telling him that this was too complicated and irregular to be worth it. But he did not mind what they thought about his work and continued to discuss it with others when he had the chance, trying to find more folks who could have interesting ideas for his consideration. Verloren had heard about Hyden's impressive magic skills, and how he was particularly interested in darker magics. Would he be able to see the true potential of soulmagic?

I was working on this for a long time. Kinda had it planned for a few years actually, before I even redesigned Verloren and got obsessed with him! They're both evil mages who caused chaotic historical events and then eventually faced The Consequences and lost their powers, so I felt like there was a lot of room for crossovers hehe. I started actually working on this in December and totally thought I'd finish in January but... oh well I guess that didn't happen xD

Unfortunately, all this time spent working on this pic has allowed me to come up with a fuckton of headcanon about it, and I could not rest without spilling all of it in an obnoxiously long wall of text.

So, if I were to steal Hyden and adapt him into my setting, I think he would be a Grand Augur of Necromagic from a kingdom neighbor to Houndsdagger. Augur is a word I stole because it looks cool, but in my setting it basically means a mage that works for the kingdom and does magic research. A Grand Augur is a higher rank than an augur, typically has earned the title through their experience, but also usually they're nobles or important people. They get a seat at the royal council of magic and stuff. So yeah I think that would fit him kinda. And necromagic because it allows for some of the most powerful crafts... and because it's typically the most potentially evil of the magics lol

This probably would take place when Verloren's work with soulmagic was starting to attract private clients looking for dark powerful magics, so Hyden might have heard the rumors about a mage in Houndsdagger who could make magic from souls (of animals but also of people obviously). At first, he might have thought it was nonsense like witchcraft (non-standard magic that a lot of people consider superstition) but maybe he might have grown a bit interested once he learned that this was apparently some extremely powerful form of magic. So on the next opportunity he had to visit Houndsdagger, Hyden decided to check it out and meet this Augur Verloren.

I think this interaction could go well, but it could also go really bad.

Verloren is known for being difficult to work with and straight up hostile at times. He's very quick to judge and will not work with you if he decides that he dislikes you for any reason, so the way that Hyden approaches him would matter a lot. Some things about Verloren that I think would influence Hyden's opinions of him:

- Verloren is just an augur, and augurs typically serve under Grand Augurs, so Hyden is technically above him, although he doesn't exactly have any authority over him since he's from a different kingdom. - Verloren is also not noble or anything like that, AND he's from Vykrest. The Vykrest are a bit more animal-like in some of their ways (like growling, biting, running on all fours at times), which makes people from outside think they're somewhat uncivilized or primitive. Doesn't help their image that they're typically wary of outsiders, with some of their cities restricted to their kind alone. - Verloren also usually appears kinda arrogant, like in a "I don't have time for you" sorta way, which pisses off a lot of people who think that he should bow down to them.

But I think if Hyden is interested in what he has to offer, he would be wise enough to treat him well no matter what he actually thinks of him. And unless the other person is being actually rude to him, Verloren enjoys talking about his work and showing what he's capable of even if he doesn't like them. (It's the part of working with/for someone he hates that he won't do.)

Verloren's work is very complex and his notes and diagrams might seem to make no sense, so Hyden might be skeptical at first, but he'd probably change his mind after some demonstrations of soulmagic's power. I think he would be especially interested when Verloren gets to the part about the Triangle Workyn of Ravenbone, a craft that could permanently increase one's magic ability.

So at this point, if the conversation was going well, they might try to make a deal. Verloren offered his soulmagic services for a cost, but he was very picky about what that cost would be. He was not interested in wealth and instead he would ask his potential client what they could offer that would be really worth his time. Hyden probably would have some interesting magic knowledge to share... or maybe he would offer Ambroys' blood. I have some thoughts about what this would mean in my setting but I guess I can spare you of those ramblings and leave for some other time since it's not directly related to this pic anyway.

Aside from that payment, there would be the materials required for the craft, and for the Triangle Workyn of Ravenbone that included three victims, with their souls bound to their skulls (the process that allows you to use a soul in magic), who should be made to kill each other in order. Verloren would provide the soul-bind spells but Hyden would have to find victims and handle the killings on his own (which I think he'd be pretty capable of doing.) So once Hyden had all the required materials, they'd meet again to do the Triangle Workyn of Ravenbone on him. If everything went right, congratulations! Hyden can now output a lot more magic at once, making all of his spells stronger. Also, his bones are black now (that's what the Ravenbone in the name is about), and possibly a bit stronger too.

Overall, I think they would get along ok, but not exactly amazingly. More of a "I guess I can deal with this guy" sort of thing despite obviously having some shared interests. They'd probably have pretty good conversations about magic, but that alone.

But what if their conversation actually didn't go so nice? If Verloren refused to work with Hyden, how would he react? How would he feel about this random lowly wild-dog of a person having some unbelievably powerful magic rivaling his own and not being able to get it for himself? During Verloren's time as an augur, he gathered several enemies who'd plot his demise and attempt to have him killed and steal his work, and I think maybe Hyden might have been one of those. Eventually, some of his most influential enemies end up convincing the king of Houndsdagger to have Verloren exiled, and maybe Hyden could have been involved. It turned out to be a terrible idea however.

Ahhhh there would be more, but I think it might already be enough and maybe I should shut up...

I run an IDV x reader writing blog and I wanted to ask, since you're someone I look up to, for tips regarding portraying the characters.

Oh gosh, I'm really flattered! ;A; It truly means a lot to hear that! O////////O I try my best to learn about the characters and their lore and use that to portray them in my work to the best of my ability. Of course, I'm by no means perfect, and I'm probably wrong about some things. I'll slip in my own interpretation and headcanons every now and then. Even exaggerate for comedic effect.

But enough rambling, onto the question! The best tip I can really give is to read up on lore; everything from B-day letters to deductions to diaries to trailers to descriptions on skins, accessories and stories; every piece of information gives a bit of insight to a character, and together they can create a picture (albeit not always complete. That's where headcanons and theories come in to fill in the blanks). I find even events can tell a bit more about a character. Just soak it all up. The Wiki has been my best friend in learning IDV lore, even though I've heard it might not have all the info there is, but you can come a long way with it.

Analyses and theories people put out can also give great insight and provide different points of view. They have been really helpful for me in learning more about the characters, especially with trailers since I find them to be a little too poetic for me to understand sometimes ghfjdskgfds it's also good if you have someone to discuss these matters with.

Of course, the more invested you are in a character, the easier it is to learn about them. It is totally okay to stick with only a very few you like; the most important thing is that you're having fun! And you can always ask friends who are invested in other characters to help you out writing those. From my experience, they're usually happy to talk about their blorbos. Combined we are experts XD

And once you've gathered information, use it to answer questions like "What would they do in such and such situation?", "Do they prefer X, Y or Z?", "How would they interact with this character under these circumstances?" etc etc. Depending on what you're writing. Often times for me, however, my brain just comes up with scenarios by itself fdshjfgdsj

Gosh, this got a lot longer than I expected pfff But yeah, this is how I go about portraying characters; read about them and then apply what I've learned. I hope this helps! And like I said, the most important thing is to have fun with it, so don't worry about not writing a character perfectly. Every interpretation is different, and that's totally fine!
