MY DRAGON QUEST MONSTERS THREAD

Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince is the first DQM game I've ever gotten to play after admiring the series since childhood. The bad news is that it leaves out exactly the three DQ monsters I love most. The good news is that everything else about it is great. I've been taking regular screenshots as I play and I am going to start adding things about it to this post, so it is going to get long. First of all here are exactly my next three favorite monsters in the franchise, which they fortunately did include, and were all available to me by almost the first area:

"Mad Mollusk" or in other dq games "taileater" is great because it has a sad flabby slug face at one end and a fanged leech mouth at the other end. When it uses magic, it reveals giant eyeballs in its antennae somehow?! Love how big the "carnivorous" mouth gets in the attack animation. What a stretchy guy!

"Lunatick" is just called "meda" (eye) in Japanese, I'm glad they decided it was like a parasite thing in the localization.

Finally there's DROHL, a classic DQ enemy that looks like...well I'm not gonna say what it really looks like but I think it's a cool little freak unrelated to that and I think it talks exactly like Droopy dog. Oddly it's known as a "Drohl DRONE," and I believe there are other "castes" in other DQ games, but only the "drones" are in this one sadly. I've yet to find this in the wild; I got it through the breeding system!

....Which is by far the most addicting thing about this game. The actual gameplay is good solid turn based RPG stuff, if a bit basic, but every monster can be bred with another monster to unlock a slew of other species. This is one of the first games in which they actually call it a "fusion" system now, I guess dropping the word "breed" from the English localization, but all other in-game dialog still calls these the 'parents' and 'offspring' and even makes jokes that they're getting married, so yeah, it's still breeding. What happens when you breed a slime with someone's dead grandpa??

.....There are multiple monsters you can get from that, but one of them, and the one that makes the most sense, is Slimeshroom! This is a new DQ slime that's some fungus! What's also fun is that every monster has up to three skills, and each skill actually unlocks a ton of spells, attacks, boosts and effects as you spend skill points on them. Then when you breed two monsters, you can give the baby any three skills from the parents. Any at all! I used this to make my Slimeshroom both a healer and a fire mage in the early game. This catches you up with the same progress I talked about when I first got the game almost two months ago so here's some things that have happened since:

I bred a flying cat and a vampire chinchilla to get a.....sexy bat??

I helped a fat rat - that's the name of his species - rescue his son

I bred a people ghost with a lamp ghost to get a bag of dirt!

I fought this bastard giraffe man who called an elderly wizard a "naughty boy" and put him in candy jail.

"Duffer" from the Giraffe quest is also best friends with Eileen the eye demon, and when you rescue him, they become your loyal subjects! BAD NEWS: this entire game is actually a prequel to Dragon Quest 4, and the player character of this game is the villain of Dragon Quest 4. Duffer and Eileen are also in Dragon Quest 4. They die :( .......Maybe this game gives you a chance to fix that future??? I don't know.

Young Severus Snape never knew what love was. That was until he met her, his Valentine.

Chapter 1: Valentine

Word count: 1,344

Life was never easy for Severus Snape. Born to a muggle father and a pureblood mother, Severus was born a half-blood wizard. Truthfully, his father, Tobias, never liked him. He never wanted a child. But much to his dismay, the boy was born, and he hated his wife for it.

On the other hand, Eileen Prince, Severus’ mother, loved the child so much that she told her what he was at such an early age. She taught him useful charms, gave him books that were in possession of the Prince's manor, and even accompanied him when he first got his wand. Being the loving mother she was, her husband was no exception to all the love that she could offer. She loved him so much, even if he didn’t treat her right. She loved him even if she would start another day with purple spots covering all over her body. She loved him even if he didn’t love their own child.

It was toxic, yes, but love is toxic. That’s why the raven-haired boy swore not to build his love around toxicity. In the future, once he finds the love of his life, he will only love her, whoever she is, whatever she is.

But growing up in a small and poor neighborhood, growing up with an abusive father, Severus never knew what love was. Well, of course, he knew what motherly love felt like, but he never knew the bond that connected two people in ways that words can’t explain. He never knew it because it was missing in his parent’s relationship. It was one-sided, not completely full.

That was until he met her.

The raven-haired boy was currently seated at the library in Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. 5 years ago, he received his acceptance letter. He would have been surprised if it hadn’t been for his mother to inform him what he was before that. But a year before that event, he met a girl with auburn hair. Lily. She was like him, but she didn’t know what she was. And so he passed his knowledge to her, and they became friends. However, the moment they entered the Great Hall, they were sorted into their respective houses, eventually separating them. Lily Evans was sorted into Gryffindor while Severus in Slytherin.

Life didn’t get better for Severus after he left home. He thought that he was free from his abusive father, but he thought wrong. No one really liked him because of his friendship with Lily, his house, and his blood status. He never really had constant friend,s and he often got bullied because of that. Shallow, yes, but some people just got mad at the wrong things.

“Hello.” A voice greeted Severus, interrupting his train of thought as he did his homework for charms. Without lifting his head, the boy pierced his cold eyes to the stranger.

It was a girl from his house, seeing that she was wearing the same green and silver colors that he wore.

He didn’t bother to answer the girl’s greeting verbally. He merely raised a brow in anticipation, waiting for what the girl wanted from him.

Despite his lack of words, the smile on the girl’s face didn’t falter. “Hello, my name is Y/N.” The girl quipped.

Severus knew who she was. She was Y/N Valentine, the Slytherin sweetheart. In his year, or maybe in Slytherin overall, she was the nicest. But she wasn’t too nice to befriend other people outside their house. Though, a lot of people wanted to be her friend. A lot even wanted to date her, that is, if they weren’t already betrothed to some other pureblood.

Y/N Valentine had distinct features that only she could model. But she wasn’t really Severus’ type. His heart was set on the ginger Gryffindor after all.

“If I am not mistaken, your name is Severus. Correct?” She continued. Severus only nodded in response.

“Do you perhaps...mind if I sit here? The library is packed and there’s no other vacant table left.”

The boy shook his head. “Feel free to do so.” He breathed. It was the first words he ever said to the girl, and the girl felt relieved to hear the boy’s voice.

She knew who he was. He was Severus Snape, the boy people called peculiar. But she didn’t care. None of those trivial things mattered to her.

For a moment there, she thought that Severus was going to push her away. She was glad he didn’t. She wouldn’t want to go and find a different table. The library was packed with Gryffindors. It’s not like she had a prejudice against the house of Godric, it’s just that she didn’t want to deal with questions and interrogations coming from her own house.

That was the first time Severus Snape and Y/N Valentine met. You could say their relationship started there, yes, but it didn’t end there either. Truthfully, Severus wouldn’t have minded if nothing bloomed in that simple interaction. It’s not like a housemate of his didn’t ask the same favor, but that was really a rare occasion. Slytherins mostly study together in the dungeons. But even if someone asked to sit with him in the library, it was always the same; They wouldn't utter another word more and act as if the boy was invisible.

However, this time, it was different. Severus just didn’t know it yet.

After that event, Y/N Valentine became intrigued by the quiet and mysterious Slytherin. As they were studying that afternoon, the girl couldn’t help but take a quick peep on what the boy was doing. He was scribbling in his textbook.

Y/N thought that was just the way he preferred to take notes instead of wasting a good amount of parchment roll. However, her eyes landed on a crossed out procedure that had the contents to slice an ingredient she really couldn’t decipher. Instead of ‘slice’, Severus changed it to ‘crush’.

Was he making up his own procedure? How does he know if that’s gonna work?

The girl was curious about the boy seated in front of him and she needed to satisfy that curiosity.

She heard a lot about him, but not in the way people talked about Lucius Malfoy or James Potter or the good-looking Black brothers. Severus wasn’t popular, no. He was the boy who hid his face behind his long jet-black hair, the boy whose nose was buried in a worn-out Advance Potions textbook, the boy who had a dark aura around him. Okay, he might not be popular but people do know him. Except, all the words that were used to describe Severus Snape depicted his exterior. Y/N Valentine wanted to know his interior.

But after a lot of thinking, the girl assumed why the boy was quiet and reserved. James Potter and his lot often messed with him, calling him names and sending hexes towards his way. Honestly, the girl didn’t know the reason why the obnoxious Gryffindors bully the quiet Slytherin. It’s not like he’s doing anything wrong.

Being the Slytherin sweetheart that she is, she couldn’t just watch the group of Gryffindors harassing her housemate. She just had to do something about it.

Hidden behind a wall, the girl flicked her wand to point at the haughty Gryffindor, murmuring the incantation of the hex that would disable you to move, coating your body with thick ice.

After seeing the work that she did, she couldn’t help the smirk that took place on her lips even when she grabbed her book and pretended to read.

Severus didn’t know if it was his mind playing tricks or if it was a side effect he got from the marauders’ hexing but he knew he wasn’t the one who casted the freezing spell towards James Potter. The magic came from the side anyways.

If it weren’t for another Slytherin calling her name, Severus wouldn’t have any clue on who could have helped him.

What do you think, which of Sneep's parents are more similar to him (talking about appearance?) Like, I have a headcanon, that, unfortunately, Severus has lots of features (some face features, even voice) that more remind him of Tobias that of Eileen, and this upsets him very much...

The Sneep's appearance is one of those things that I have many different ideas for - I have so many different headcanons and theres so many different takes that I like, that I could never decide on just one! This results in many different versions of The Sneep, sneeping around in my brain.

But that being said.... Imagine the sheer emotional hurt and turmoil, if some of the parts of his appearance criticized for being ugly The MOST... were the things that came from his mother? features of himself that He had loved and cherished when he was little because they reminded him of her, of the parent who he admired so much? His mum who never hurt him the way his father did? Picture this: A young, little Sneep, proud of his princely nose, proud of looking like his mum, because he thinks she's beautiful, regal, and good, even despite their circumstances, despite how beaten down she's been.

And then he gets to Hogwarts... and constantly hears all about how hideous his Nose is, how ugly his hair is. Ugly, Ugly, Ugly. Everything about him is ugly... and by extension, everything about HER is ugly. and I think it would hurt far more than the similarities to his muggle father, ever could, would make him so much more defensive than anything else. Because if it were his muggle side's features being criticized, honestly? he'd probably agree. he'd probably try to get RID of them, given his mentality in his youth. But his mum? The closest thing to a loving parent he had, The kindest thing in his broken home? I always thought it was interesting how despite all the hostility he got over his looks (as a student specifically), the Sneep never actually tried to change them - and the thing is, I think he would've had the capability for it! even if not to 'fix' these aesthetic flaws entirely, then surely to lessen them somehow, to make them at least marginally more palatable to everyone else even despite all the other mental trauma he probably has towards his looks and wellbeing in general. But he didnt. And maybe that would have added more fuel to the fire, for him. made the insults feel so much more personal and hurtful, made them needle in so deep, that he still feels them so much later. (among everything else that he no doubt has going on, all the trauma he's dealing with on TOP of all that.)

Idk, I could go on forever about this, but I its a concept I really like; somehow I can't help but think that Tobias mustve been have had at lease SOME sort of attractive trait to him, Eileen left everything for him. There must have been something there. While I dont think he was some sort of super model, supernaturally beautiful guy, nor do I think Eileen wouldve been shallow enough to get with him purely for his looks, I do think he mustve been at least average. (I also think The Sneeps looks were actually perfectly average and normal, but its just that The Marauders made it The HaHa go-to Meme Joke to call him hideous, and that sentiment sorta just. stuck around.)

Thoughts on Tobias Snape/Eileen Prince and Eileen Prince/Tom Riddle Jr.?

i've answered eileen prince/tom riddle here - spoiler alert, i don't hugely back it.

when it comes to eileen prince/tobias snape - which also got its own shoutout from another mystery anon:

now... my view on this is informed by the fact that i simply don't accept the fanon that eileen is from an elite [whether we mean socially or financially elite] pureblood family - she can't be! her marriage to a muggle man is announced in the daily prophet! what purebloods are doing that?

the only person who ever suggests she might be is harry, who does so on the basis of no evidence, in order to force a comparison between snape and voldemort as a way of soothing his furious grief over dumbledore's death.

but one of the central jokes in voldemort's background is that he is - by far - the most aristocratic character in the entire series, in both the magical and muggle worlds, but is denied access to the social cachet this brings in the muggle world because he's raised in an orphanage and never acknowledged by tom riddle sr. and in the wizarding world because he has a muggle name which means he's denied access to the lineage-based hierarchy of wizarding society, even though he's descended from slytherin. it doesn't make narrative sense, then, for snape to be in the same position - the uniqueness of voldemort's parentage is the point.

[and also the point of harry's assessment of snape at the end of half-blood prince is that it's... wrong.]

i personally think of eileen, then, as a half-blood - but a half-blood with a magical father, which gives her the name-based protection we see in canon afforded to half-bloods like harry. i can just about accept her as a pureblood from a minor pureblood family, but only if - regardless of this blood-status - she's from a aspirational-working- or lower-middle-class background, rather than raised in ancestral majesty.

[after all, we have andromeda for that.]

i also like to think of her and tobias as childhood friends, from technically the same class bracket, but from very different sub-brackets within this group - so, tobias from a destitute working-class background which was looked at with disgust by the aspirational-working-classes to which the princes belonged; exactly as is the case with her son and lily.

i like this - the idea that they were once thick as thieves, with magic the only difference between them - because the canonical series does far too little interrogation of the fact that, for all dumbledore and the order's grandstanding over the inherent goodness of the muggle world, all but one of the mixed muggle-magical relationships we see in canon fail*, all muggleborn children extract themselves totally from the world of their birth, and the two worlds are as completely segregated by the good guys as they are by the death eaters.

eileen discovering that magic - which looked so unlikely to cause an issue when she fell in love with toby aged ten - causes the man she adores to despise her and subject her to appalling violence, the son she loves to resent her, and the poverty in which she lives to continue unabated is something i think is really valuable to explore.

plus, the idea that eileen - in her son's eyes - threw away her prestigious magical education to return to a cotton-town slum and marry a poor man provides the perfect explanation for why severus snape makes many of the choices he makes in his life.

[*we hear of four muggle-magical relationships in canon: tom riddle sr. and merope gaunt, tobias and eileen, dean's parents, and seamus' parents. we all know what happened to tom and merope, tobias and eileen are canonically a violent, unhappy marriage, dean's dad leaves his mum when he’s a baby, and seamus' parents may or may not still be together. jkr has added several more in her post-series writing... almost all of which are similarly unhappy.]

A little progress.

I'm working on "Infraction." My precious baby, uh. This art is part of it in a way. Eileen Prince and Tobias Snape. When people are falling in love everything seems easy, but then life happen.

(I'd like to talk about how things are going with Infraction.)

I'm back on it since couple of weeks and working on it is intense (my brain is literally boiling). I don't think I ever planned a story for that long. The first idea has born 6th January this year. I was writing down (like crazy) everything I wanted to be in this fic. During first months it was chaotic and messy, but brought me so much joy. When I've had everything that (I thought) I needed, I wrote first chapters, yeah. And then shared them, because was so excited about all of it and just couldn't wait. Gosh.

Now I... hm... well, maybe not "regret" it, but I think, I totally should have wait. Why is that? First thing first, this story is not ready yet for being written in, you know, final version. It's too fat, lol.

I may want too much from it. There is a lot, like, seriously, A LOT of things to cover. First notes took me around 80 pages and it had many gaps in it (too much if you ask me). Things I needed to figure out and fill in, in the same time making everything work together. Because this Snarry is not sprinkled with crime. It's filled with murder, political shenanigans, family shiteshow and tough, not always appropriate, love. There are secrets and lies, blackmails and history that matter. Backstory of many people, whose actions over the years supposed to bring us to the point where we are now. And, you know, all of it gives me the thrill. First time in my life I feel like a true Puppet Master.

So, couple weeks ago I started to write a proper outline, if I can call it like that. To put everything in order and, going from the very beginning, to fill all the gaps. To answer all the questions I was asking myself in notes. To figure out the missing clues, some details without I couldn't go further and with that - to find out how characters will change facing new situations. How they will grow (I really love this part). Sometimes I think, "why am I even doing it?" I could just write some cosy, little fic where Harry and Severus' silly problems would be the main goal of the story. Like, focusing on them should be enough, right? Why am I going for all the other things, if I just want them to shag and have their happy end after all? 😂

Well, if it's not for fun, I don't know the other reason. The level of excitement is just incredible. I don't know, if what I'm writing is good or bad. If it really has sense, because I've always seen myself rather as a potato, not as a great mastermind who can plot some good shite, you know. That said, "Infraction" feels even more challenging that I ever thought it will be. But I feel deep inside that I can do it. Going step by step where the main plan leads and... it just feels good.

I've started in October 1989. Now I'm in January 2011. It means that I managed to finish everything that happen before the fic starts, lol. And, actually, I almost covered the first part of the book. So, two more to go? Hehe. It'll take time, yes. It's crazy how much I want to continue writing the main chapters, not only swim in the plan-phase. Drawing the series of "Muggle London" art helped me a lot with easing this itch. However, it's still there. I know, though, that I have to finish it. The whole outline, I mean. Without it, things can go south.

That said, I can't tell how long it will take. Couple weeks? Maybe months. This is really... a lot of work and I want to be proud of it. Even more so, because this fic means a lot to me. I know it may not be, you know, mind blowing or something. But I hope that giving it all my love, it could be, you know, not that bad for reading, hehe.

(Yes I'm sending another ask) I heard someone say that the Malfoys were the best parents, what are your thoughts on this? And could you make a rank from the best parents to the worst?

Hm, the Malfoy’s did genuinely love their son and shower him with affection, so they are definitely up at the top of the list I’d say! Now I won’t make this list very long only a couple will be ranked-

Best to worst Harry Potter Parents:

Up at number one we have Aragog and his wife. Alright, alright- hear me out- yes, I know they were spiders- Aragog kept his children in a cave. Safe and away from any threats. He would get them food, and if anyone or thing entered their cave by their own volition- he allowed his children to have a snack. Aragog the spider always seemed to put his children above all else, intruders? Well. Now they’re food, no longer can they be a possible threat to their nest-

At number two we got Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy! Both of them shower Draco with love and affection. They genuinely love and care for him, while they are DE’s they still put their child before Voldemort’s plan as seen with Narcissa lying to him for her son!

In third place we have Neville’s grandma. Neville’s grandma, while harsh and scary to Neville, she did genuinely cared for her grandson. She took care of him while his parents were.. unable to. She was harsh and strict because she cared, she was scared he’d end up like his parents. We don’t see much of her though so we can’t say for certain how good of parent she was, but I think she was pretty ok so she takes spot number three on this list.

Fourth place goes to the Weasley’s. They did genuinely love all their children- but at times it did seem they chose favorites. They didn’t have a lot of money while having a big family, but that was because of their beliefs in muggles and muggleborns. They were not pureblood supremacists but they were pureblooded. They taught their children to do the right thing and to stand up for what they believe in. That is some good parenting but the favoritism and seeming to care more about outsiders than your own children- that’s what brings them down in this list. I’m not saying they were necessarily bad- they stuck to their beliefs and brought up their children to do the same.. they were genuinely caring but sometimes it showed more through outsiders than through their own children.

Fifth place goes to the Dursley’s. Their parenting methods were pretty bad. For both Harry and Dudley. Dudley basically got helicopter parenting, making him full of himself and arrogant. He was rarely ever told no or reprimanded. That doesn’t help a child grow up maturity wise. Harry on the other hand, while not being their child was still in their care. They absolutely despised him- because of him being a wizard- yet they wouldn’t tell him the reasons he was so hated or why things would happen on their own. They left him in the dark, they often abused him emotionally and verbally- and let Dudley bully him. So they’re pretty low on the list.

At the absolute worst parents award on this list goes to the Prince’s. Snape’s parents. Tobias Snape was abusive and neglectful. He lost all their money causing the family to be poor and live in a run down neighborhood. Eileen, while better than Tobias, was still pretty neglectful. While she didn’t outright physically or mentally abuse Snape, Neglect is counted as a form of abuse. Childhood Emotional Neglect or CEN can be the cause of disorders- (but I won’t get into that right now). That title is a lie, there’s nothing romantic or fantastical about prince Castiel's life whatsoever. Married off to king Dean for political reasons, his role is to manage the castle and help raise prince Ben, the son of Dean’s first wife. Lisa was the one Dean truly loved, her loss years ago bereaved the entire kingdom. Castiel is a pale replacement nobody cares for much unless they have a problem or something to complain about. Castiel, for his part... well, it was stupid to fall in love with his husband, but he’s always been a dunce and an embarrassment according to Michael. Why change now. Then Dean’s sister by marriage, Queen Eileen, decides to show Castiel what his true place in the castle is… … and maybe he is in a romance and a fairy tale after all. Just a little bit.

There is just something about a fairytale/arranged marriage setting for me, you know? 😊 It hits me right in the spot!

In this particular case we have Castiel who has been married to the king, Dean, for quite a while now. He knows it’s merely for political reasons and that his husband as well as the whole country are still hung up on his true love, Lisa, who passed away years ago. Castiel is very aware of everything and he has accepted the truth, even though it hurts. Even though he, foolish as he is, managed to fall in love with Dean somewhere along the way anyway.

And so he spends his days, secretly pining for his husband, dealing with the man’s stubborn son who isn’t shy on voicing his displeasure about Castiel’s mere existence on a daily manner, and running the country to the best of his abilities. Until the day everything is turned upside down … 

This story is just a wonderful fairytale that pulls you right in! Castiel has come to terms with his fate as a political pawn and subpar replacement at Dean’s side. After all, he has learned from an early age that he would never be destined for anything else anyway, so why dream unnecessarily and make yourself even more miserable?

But after events begin to unravel he suddenly realizes that there might be people out there who care about him way more than he anticipated. And not just the kingdom’s subjects and the castle’s staff but the very family he married into. Foremost Dean himself who gets sick with worry when Castiel’s fate stands in the balance.

Unbeknownst to many, simply because he was such a private person, Severus had always been very close with his mother. Eileen Snape is… was… the only kind Snape in the whole family tree, considering she married into the family, it made sense. Eileen originally married his father, Tobias Snape, out of love, she was the type of person who found the good in everybody, even, unfortunately, his father at one point, though she horrendously misjudged his… nature.

Severus always thought it foolish of her, to even think of that man, his… father, as remotely good, even on a good day, seemed impossible for Severus. Tobias Snape did not have a single loving bone in his body, if he did, it's safe to say Severus would’ve been an entirely different person.

It wasn’t always so tense between Eileen and Tobias, when his father and mother were wed, the Snape family outwardly portrayed the perfect family, a hardworking husband, and a doting equally as hardworking wife, that was, until Severus was born.

His father was nothing special, he was a tall, lanky, pale, English muggle who worked a plethora of jobs at any given moment. He never stayed anywhere too long mostly because he’d end up coming to work hungover or drunk more often than not leading to a confrontation between him and whoever his current boss was. He was a notoriously stoic man who could go the entire day without giving so much as a glance to either Severus or Eileen until he got his hands on a bottle of beer. Later on in life, his alcohol dependence would prove to be his final nail in the coffin, just a few months short of his mother’s death.

His mother, on the other hand, was born into the highly esteemed House of Prince. Much like the noble House of Black, the Prince House was a highly revered, and highly feared, house of powerful pureblooded witches and wizards. Unlike many patriarchal wizarding families, the Prince family was headed by the less-than-polite, Catherine Prince, Eileen’s mother. Being an only child, Eileen was next in line to head the Prince House but upon hearing her daughter had married and fallen in love with a muggle man, Catherine disowned Eileen for being a “blood traitor” and “tainting” their family line.

Before their wedding, Eileen and Tobias lived in his parent's home, after their very small intimate wedding, the two moved into Spinner’s End in Cokeworth, England, just a few short months later, Severus was conceived and born on January 9th, 1960. Despite its less-than-favorable conditions, drab, rainy, cobblestoned England would serve to be their residence, its looming Victorian architecture only adding to the oppressiveness and overbearing weight of the country as a whole. The ghosts of a not-so-distant past served as a grim backdrop for the tense times they lived in.

For the first year of his life, Severus was rather sickly and pale, two traits that regrettably followed him through his childhood and into adulthood, albeit, to a lesser extreme. He was a rather frail child resulting in him often sitting and playing with his mother rather than venturing into the outside world simply because it caused too much strain on his already strained body. 

Due to brain damage he sustained from one of the many beatings from his father, his development was stunted and many important milestones such as his first laugh, his first steps, and even his first words happened at much later times than they would for a seemingly healthy baby. Eileen wasn’t spared from Tobias’s wrath either, while her son bared the brunt of her husband’s aggression, she too sustained a multitude of bruises and broken bones at his hands.

Despite their harsh reality, Eileen never broke in front of her son, she taught Severus to never accept a life he didn’t deserve, to keep his head up, he was a Prince after all. Her confidence, born of a life of privilege at a young age was something even Tobias had a hard time breaking. 

As he grew older, Severus never grew out of his introverted tendencies. His constant ailments and aversion to words were a point of conflict in the Snape household. Growing up, Severus was regularly berated for being too “weak” and acting like a “pansy” due to his mother’s quote-unquote “incessant coddling”. Coupled with the fact that he had grown out his hair and wore his mother’s clothing since his father’s hung off his lanky body, Severus was more often than not, subjected to harsh manual labor along with numerous beatings for whatever unforgivable crime his father felt he committed that day. In his father’s words, “He wasn’t going to raise a faggot”, how funny that sentence was to look back upon...

As a result of his father’s explosive temper and general aloof behavior, he and his mother grew extremely close. A certified social recluse even at a young age, Eileen was the only person he allowed into his little world. Once her son started displaying signs of having magical abilities, she broke out her old textbooks and started teaching him basic wandless spells in secret while Tobias was away working.

 His father detested magic with every fiber of his being, he didn’t like much of anything but magic for some reason seemed to entirely derail his behavior. So much so, that he snapped Eileen’s wand in a fit of rage not long after they were married.

The day Severus got his Hogwarts letter, Eileen was ecstatic, catching his father in a good mood, she showed him the letter proclaiming their son was a wizard and would be attending the best magical school in the world. Grossly hungover, Tobias didn’t fully register her words as she asked to take Severus to London, waving them off angrily, Eileen practically skipped out of the house with her son in tow.

The two spent the day in Diagon Alley, living what felt like a normal life for the first time. Splurging what little money she had on her son, Eileen bought him brand new robes and a wand, even going so far as to buy him ice cream at Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour before heading off to the used bookstores. It’s this day that Severus believes was his happiest memory, rather,  it was one of his only happy memories from his childhood, the one memory he faithfully used to conjure his Patronus.

Broooooossss, Harry Potter pre marauders headcanon idea

What if before the marauders, when their parents went to school, Eileen Prince, Walburga black, and Euphemia were friends, maybe even coven sisters, but due to the paths they took, they seperated?

So imagine this. Walburga was just like Sirius when she was in hogwarts, except she was in slytherin and toughest snake in all of Slytherin and faced worse abuse from her parents. She was also your typical rebellious sarcastic rich wild child sister and a pain to her older brother Adolphus. Plus, she got away with a lot due to her money and name. And she loves a good fight.

Then there was her friend Eileen, she was the smartest in slytherin. She knew more spells and hexes in her first year than anyone in their 5th year. Plus, gobstones champion. I feel like Eileen would be the knowledgeable yet somewhat shy type. She always focused on her studies and was ahead of her class in almost every subject (sometimes without even trying)

Last but certainly not least, Euphemia ( I don't know her last name, but there are theories on her family). Euphemia was this free spirited, laid-back, extroverted person that everyone liked. She was also a very brave and loyal Gryffindor. To Walburga, Euphemia was everything that represents Gryffindor.

These three together were a force to be reckoned with. If someone messed with one of them, the other two were not far behind, and they wouldn't let any deed go unpunished.

Walburga loved her coven sisters, and she was even fascinated with muggles once. That was until Eileen got pregnant and picked a life of shame with the father of her child instead of a life with her (Walburga definitely had a crush on Eileen, and you can't tell me otherwise).

Then Walburga and Euphemia drifted apart after they both got betrothed and married, and Walburga became just like her mother, who abused her and her brothers on more than one occasion but to Cygnus, she is softer than their mother and their father.

After Sirius went to hogwarts and told her and Orion about his new friends (and she used legilimens on him) and mentioned Severus, she immediately had flashbacks to Euphemia and Eileen and deep down she missed them both but she kills that part of herself almost every day.

Walburga also kept an old photo she, Eileen, and Euphemia took together with their initials written on the back of the photo. She originally meant to burn it, but she always kept it close and hid it so no one could find it.
