a character card of Severus from my Parselmagic AU
Tom is Severus’s biological father, so Severus is a parselmouth. Tom gifted Persephone to Severus for his 30th birthday.
Eileen and Tom were briefly married until she left him before Severus was born and married Tobias Snape. Thus…Sev is still Snape. If it had been up to Tom, Severus would’ve been named Savir Prince. (As in if they ever had a kid, because he found the name Severus horrendous but…he wasn’t involved in the naming process.)
About the The Princes: They are Persian magical family originally called Mizra assimilated (sort of) and renamed themselves the Princes. They are Zoroastrians, and over the centuries turned to Vampirism as the ultimate form of purification of death. They only integrated with Romani, North African, and other Middle eastern magical families within Europe (they’re hard core blood supremacists) They do however indirect ties to Ravenclaw bloodline.
They also hate werewolves!
Anyway, the werewolf prank did not go well, and Severus was turned into a werewolf. His bogart is also a werewolf but…it’s not his own form.
I changed his patronus to be a fox, if you read pit of vipers, you’d know the reason why.

a few fun facts about pureblood wizarding families (while i try to finish the next chapter of valkyrie)
the lore for these aren't fully fleshed out yet but whatever let's just have fun, shall we?
firstly, the sacred twenty-eight aren't the only pureblood wizarding families. cantankereus nott was just a bitch and left many families off because they didn't meet his "standards" of how they conducted affairs in pureblood circles and the notts often profited off the turmoil within other powerful households.
the notts have long held a grudge against the potters going back centuries
the averys and the potters practiced blood magic and necromancy during the renaissance, and held ancient texts which were heavily guarded and kept secret even up until present day (including secrets of the dark arts, useful in the creation of horcruxes). the averys were proud of this history, the potters were not
the prince family are descendants of arielle slytherin (salazar slytherin's youngest child and only daughter) and merlin (of the round table). merlin's myth was deliberately narrated as centuries older than he actually was to preserve the secrecy of the wizarding world. prince comes from merlin's title, "the prince of enchanters", with his and arielle's only child being named arthur for merlin's friend, king arthur
as a result the prince family holds in high esteem their connection with "wizarding royalty"
the lupins emerged out of a british colony in north america, hunting wolves and using their pelts for wizarding robes. eventually they returned to britain but due to a lack of wolf packs in the area, they pivoted to other materials (like snakeskin). eventually, the once-wealthy family fell into poverty and became farmers in wales. the lupins continue to hold a hatred for werewolves, blaming them for the downfall of the lupin family
there's still a north american branch of the lupins, known now as the lovetts (which means young wolf)
the gaunts invented the cruciatus curse, as well as other spells in the dark arts
the blacks partially orchestrated the downfall of the gaunts in pureblood society, seizing on the gaunts dysfunction (as a result of abuse and inbreeding across generations) to position themselves as the new royalty of the wizarding world
the lestrange family was divided once a branch moved to the uk, as both sides believed that either france or britain was the future centre of the wizarding world and despised the other
at the age of ten, lestrange children are led in a ritual to slaughter an animal and burn its bones in a bonfire surrounded by family, as to signify their coming of age in the magical world without reservations or fears
the malfoys have long been associated with veela, leading to their pale and softer features down the line
the malfoys were philanthropists, and considered less extreme on blood status (willing to marry half-bloods, associated with the british monarchy and using those connections to profit behind closed doors. were very involved in high class muggle society until 1692 with the passing of the statute of secrecy, which they initially opposed but later switched and cut ties publicly with muggles)
the mulciber family originated in zimbabwe and were notably proficient in the expelliarmus and imperius curses
the weasleys and the malfoys are inextricably linked, having come to britain around the same time (the invasion of william the conqueror) and have long been enemies, particularly in politics
every eligible heir (ie not disowned, pureblood, mentally "sound") in the black family is arranged to be married, with plans beginning in childhood or even infancy but generally being more or less set by the child's entry into hogwarts. the marriage occured directly after graduation, and was used to strengthen ties with other pureblood families
however, flaws in this system led to inbreeding (organized marriages between cousins), large age gaps (up to ten years), forced rape/pregnancies (even when the parents were still at hogwarts), and female babies being deprioritized in the pursuit of the continuation of the black name. despite this, infertility runs in the family and many children die young (leading to the desire for big families)
at thirteen, the black children are honoured in an initiation ceremony, where they receive a knife carved with the black family insignia. children as young as six begin training with knives to allow them to fight even if magic cannot be used, and all black family members carry their knives with them up until their deaths
there is a class system in pureblood politics. families such as the blacks, the malfoys, the gaunts, the rosiers, and the lestranges are considered "wizarding royalty" and hold the most sway in society and politics, due in part to a) historical connections, b) wide-ranging bloodlines, c) considerable wealth, or d) magical prowess. other families, such as the mulcibers, the pettigrews, the vanitys, and the weasleys were considered flip votes and could often be manipulated easily. typically, the allies in pureblood politics against the wizarding elite are the potters, the longbottoms, the moodys, the abbotts, and the fawleys
let me know if this was fun! i'll definitely do more as i flesh out different families (there are a bunch on the sacred twenty-eight that i have yet to explore) so stay tuned! also, let me know your headcanons for the families!! :)

AU where my version of the Prince family lives, and Tobias isn't a jerk but is still hot-headed. After the prank families' meeting: Orion: Almost losing a half-blood isn't such big of a deal to- Tobias, pulling out a gun: Let's check if losing a pureblood's head is such a big deal.

Maybe it was Eileen he heard talking shit about Muggles. Eileen, who married a Muggle and gave up her entire world for that Muggle—who lowered herself to live in a shitty neighborhood, in a shitty house, surrounded by shit, all for that Muggle. Eileen, who could have had a decent life in the magical world but ended up not even being able to buy her son clothes in the Muggle one—all because of a man. The same man who yelled and was violent and scary and made her existence miserable. So Eileen probably told her son how amazing the magical world was compared to the hellhole they lived in, the opportunities he could have, and how good it would feel to be among people like him—not among those Muggles who only brought misery, poverty, and violence.
Because Eileen is often portrayed as a helpless victim and fairly loving toward Severus, but I prefer to think she also contributed to her son's cognitive dissonance, to his resentment, and to his obsession with becoming someone in the magical world. That precisely because of the trauma and personal drama, she wasn't in any condition to be a functional mother, nor was she particularly emotionally close. And maybe, over the years, Severus felt torn between a certain affection for her—because, after all, she hadn’t been a total piece of shit like his father—but also a deep internal resentment for feeling like she had never truly protected him, despite being a witch and having the upper hand.

The summer of fifth grade, Snape comes home and opens the door to see his mother's feet dangling and swaying in mid-air, and after the burial Snape remembers why Eileen picked the very day he returned from school to hang herself, and believes that it was his mother's revenge on the son who had done nothing to help her in her life

I will die your daughter but it's Severus Snape realising he's Eileen's daughter through and through, destined to repeat his mother's fate, as he realises that he has to protect the child of his abuser, and finally understands why his mother couldn't be strong for him because he is the child of her abuser, how can she love him when his existence reminds her of everything wrong with her life, and now he has to stand in her place before his abuser's child and he couldn't be a good mother for the child even if he wanted to because he's too broken and just seeing the boy fills him with pain pain pain so much pain he cannot think and words have left his mouth that shouldn't have, and why him, why must he be the one to protect the child of his abuser, this child isn't his, yet he knows why, because he will die Eileen's daughter, he is destined to mirror her fate, and maybe he would have avoided it if he was Tobias's son but he's not, he's Eileen's daughter and he will die her daughter.

Do you guys think Severus ever calls for his mom after a bad meeting with Voldemort? Like I can imagine Severus in his childhood home broken and gasping, I can imagine him feeling like a young boy who faced the rage of his father words and fist. I can imagine him looking for his mother to whisper words of peace and warmth only to remember that same mother is in the ground surrounded by White Roses and Violets, that same mother who held him gently yet tightly is in a cemetery far away from this wretched home filled with horror of grief.

I hate the deification of Snape’s mother, Eileen.
I see a lot of head-canons about the Snape household involving pure evil from Tobias while Eileen is a perfect angel who goes to great lengths to care for their son. I think it’s a nice idea, but I don’t see this being true based on what we know and can surmise from canon.
I think Eileen was probably abused so heavily that it closed her off from everything around her, including her son. There is really no other explanation for the fact that Severus Snape had long hair and stained, ill-fitting clothing (long hair that can be cut and stained and ill-fitting clothing that can be altered with magic). We know that grief can diminish a witch or wizard’s magic, in which case it makes sense that Snape grew up without certain amenities, but it gives no explanation for his hair being long and uncared for. Cutting hair requires no magical ability and poverty has nothing to do with it. If you look at photos taken during periods of great strife in places like Ireland, you might notice that while they are grubby and their clothing is ripped and badly fit, the boys have their hair cut reasonably, implying that even through financial hardship and famine, they are being loved and cared for at home at least to some extent.
Severus Snape at no point during what we are shown of his childhood exhibited any signs of an affectionate upbringing on the part of either of his parents. Harry noticed this in just about every memory of Snape’s that he sees.
I believe that Eileen was abused badly enough that she was no longer able to take care of her son and, while probably not strictly abusive like Tobias, was probably just as neglectful.
Of course, I think everyone has the right to headcanon a better upbringing for Snape. I just don’t think that it should cross the line into in discussions about his canon childhood, which is something I do see happening.
Sorry if this post is messy, by the way. I didn’t spend a lot of time rearranging and formatting; I just wanted to get it out.
I wanted to add something else quickly before posting. I’m not sure if I was clear, but I don’t fully blame Eileen for her part in the treatment of her son. She was obviously at least verbally abused alongside Severus Snape by her husband at least since she was a young adult. That being said, I don’t know how her parenting style would have been different if she hadn’t suffered abuse. One must imagine Sisyphus happy, or imagine that Eileen was trying her best and without the abuse would have been a significantly better parent.
