Ronin had some stuck shed on his hand and chewed up his own finger about it because this is a guy who deals with problems by biting them. So that made for a fun evening trip to the emergency vet on Sunday when we'd just gotten back into town and I was operating on two nights in a row of five hours of sleep on either side of an ultra. He had to be in a cone to not bite his hand and we had to take everything out of his tank so his injured finger couldn't catch on anything and he responded to these events with three days of black-bearded despondency. But at yesterday's vet visit, she said the finger was healing and he could have his stuff back, so now he's much happier and so am I. At that same visit, though, she found some unrelated Weird Indicators, so we don't get to be totally relieved as we're still waiting for lab results. So. Send "it's probably nothing, rulesforthedance doesn't need any more lizard-related heartbreak this year" vibes, please.

Observations people (vet, vet tech, receptionist) made about him yesterday: "he's very interested in what's going on around him," "he has a lot of big feelings," "he has a big personality," and "he's kind of spicy, isn't he?"

Finding myself reflecting on what is often the public’s incorrect understanding of mine and Sigurd’s relationship.

So many people (often cis men) see me with a big, often excited dog and love to talk down to me because they perceive the situation as less controlled or “under one’s thumb” as they expect/desire their own dogs to be (which is often complete shut down control).

In reality Sigurd is the most difficult dog I own. He is aloof, incredibly intelligent, very low biddability, and requires a very specific and curated relationship to do ANYTHING for you. He knows his size and he is in excellent shape. If he wanted to truly drag me and do what he wanted on a walk he would. He does to anybody that’s not me, including Mr D who he will often nip and manipulate to get his way. I am the only one that’s ever been able to get this dog to do work in my hands, be it sports or obedience. These men that negatively “joke” on my lack of control while my dog stands by my side and listens when I hold him back from his excitement would have no idea what to do with him. He would baffle them.

Also when I make shitposty jokes like that I LOVE taking them Way Too Seriously. Like. Yeah that's funny, but what does it Mean actually, for Freyja to say all that to Moe? Is she propping herself up, rubbing salt in the wounds of someone who could not achieve "goodness" as presented to it, by explicitly stating she was raised as a lotus flower, already a pure and divine being from the start? Who, as you can plainly see, manages to embody that purity and divinity to this day, whereas Moe has failed to? By saying she smells nice like vanilla all the time, does that imply that Moe could stand to have better hygiene habits, or at least is self-conscious of the times it gets forgetful and/or neglectful in that regard? Or at very least is just extremely self-conscious that it sweats a lot when nervous (which is nearly all the damn time)? And when Freyja leaves the beetle for dead in such a specific way, is Moe thinking of and empathizing with the protagonist of Franz Kafka's The Metamorphosis?

I've been completely blindsided by how EXTREMELY Likeable every companion is in Baldur's Gate 3

Whenever I loot a magical item I get excited when it says "Gale can eat this :)" --- like I'm going grocery shopping for his snacks (⁠ ⁠ꈍ⁠ᴗ⁠ꈍ⁠) -- and he's not even in my party right now

When Karlach and Astarion banter I stop dead in my tracks to make sure I don't miss what they have to say

I have Shadowheart try on every silly little hat that I find (usually none are better than the witch hat ◉⁠‿⁠◉ she's my little cleric witch teehee)

I'm always heading back to camp for no reason just to chat with Wyll

also, about carmillas control of her vampirism, while it's hot to think about, i dont think fangs actually come out during sex. like in the s3 scenes where shes actually still a vampire that we dont get to see but i dont think that happens

based on my inferences that the losing control of the vampirism happens mostly bc of anger/threat and it basically never happens atlaura and i think one of her worst fears is hurting laura, i think during sex is the least likely time for any loss of control like that

+ theres the fact that laura is the bitey one during sex, even with human teeth
