also, about carmillas control of her vampirism, while it's hot to think about, i dont think fangs actually come out during sex. like in the s3 scenes where shes actually still a vampire that we dont get to see but i dont think that happens
based on my inferences that the losing control of the vampirism happens mostly bc of anger/threat and it basically never happens atlaura and i think one of her worst fears is hurting laura, i think during sex is the least likely time for any loss of control like that
+ theres the fact that laura is the bitey one during sex, even with human teeth

Do you have any horror recs, books or movies or whatever, about gender? Or non traditional gender dynamics/performances? Could be lgbtq or not. Feel free to ignore if out of left field. I love your blog!
Ooooh i think horror is the perfect genre to discuss gender but unfortunately i have rarely seen it done and it's even rarer to see it done well, so I'd love if anyone else has other recommendations! But just off the top of my head Ginger Snaps and Carrie both involve menstruation as a metaphor for loss of control over your body and how others see you in light of genderisms, the Hostel films do some stuff regarding gender but if you don't like torture movies i Do Not recommend them, Under the Skin is about gender/body horror, The Stepford Wives (the original film + novel) deals with gender roles. Almost any vampire media can be read as a metaphor for gender and sexual deviancy, starting with the original Dracula and Carmilla, but for vampire films that touch on it I especially recommend Let the Right One In, Byzantium, The Moth Diaries, The Hunger, and A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night. Men, Women and Chainsaws: Gender In The Modern Horror Film by Carol Clover is a pretty good breakdown of gender in relation to the genre. Her Body and Other Parties by Carmen Maria Machado is a collection of short horror stories, many of which deal with gender and body dysmorphia. And, while not horror, when discussing literature regarding gender, I can never recommend The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K Le Guin enough. Hope this helps!
