assassins creed odyssey

set in greece, a fictional telling of the peloponnesian war, honestly really really fun :) i love the AC games and this one having a more RPG angle wasnt popular w/ the dudebros but its popular with ME! i love doomed siblings and fighting fate! what if you were two children doomed by the pythia and one of you was raised by a violent cult into thinking you were a demigod but instead you were a tool, and the other was forced to flee home raise themself into a hero of the people and save greece from this cult.....and then youre faced with your baby sibling who you tried and failed to save decades ago

they dont tell you this but palia is a post-apocalyptic game set a hundreds of thousands of years after humans were killed off by some sort of cataclysmic event and all thats left of us are memories of concrete jungles and wires like veins permanently left behind in the memory discs of sentient robots we created to help us who got left behind. you play as a human who came out of some hibernation, separated by your own past by thousands of years and amnesia, and you befriend the townsfolk and try to make a life :) it just looks like a cute life/farming sim

soooo fun its like if the fallout sense of humor + post apocalypse capitalist doomerism met the sci-fi fun of the mass effect games. which makes sense because the studio who made the most popular fallout game made this one. youre unfrozen out of hibernation and used as a guinea pig to gather material and information for the mad scientist who freed you, working with very little information but a whole lot of incentive. you accidentally crash land on the guy who was supposed to give you a ride off this planet you were just shucked onto. now youre impersonating him. humanity is spread across a system and capitalism-as-a-religion runs it all.

mass effect 1

ive always been obsessed with ME's fantasy sibling dragon age so im trying the mass effect games out... its a dense sci fi and a little clunky but shes from 2007 and both percy and gabe love these games so im persevering. the story is really fun (its about what constitutes "being alive" and personhood) but i feel like ive barely scratched the surface so far!! currently playing this one as im typing

shes my childhood sims game :) sims 4 WISHES she could be sims2/sims3. i play it for mindless fun. my current sim has had a batshit life so far

(Kinda Late) Nintendo Direct thoughts (2/8/23)

Teensy bit late on this one due to being at work all day, but I wanted to capture my thoughts on the latest nintendo direct (since we hadn’t had one in months and who knows when the next one is). Go over the highlights, the cool, the meh, and everything that I thought was interesting. Not gonna cover absolutely EVERYTHING, just the things that caught my attention (sorry Samba de Amigo and Fashion Dreamer, I’m sure you’re fun games and all, I just have other things I wanna talk about)Pikmin 4: Looks neat, that’s kinda all I’ve got on it. Visually it’s beautiful for a Switch game, but it’s not a franchise I’ve really cared about, so I’m pretty indifferent on it. Pretty happy for the Pikmin fans though, I know you guys have REAAAALLY been waiting on this one, so good to see it’s finally getting shown off. The dog thing Oatchi feels a little... weird though. Kinda like Pikmin’s version of Poochy or some other example of added dog-like companion getting added to a series, they always feel a little funky when added in my opinion. I dunno though, maybe it fits right in with the rest of Pikmin, I’m not exactly super knowledgeable on the series anyways. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 DLC: That’s neat for Xenoblade fans. I only ever played X on the Wii U, so I don’t have much of a connection to the series, but hope fans of the game are hyped (also, was that Shulk and an older Rex? That was kind of a surprise to see). Who knows though, maybe I’ll try the series out again sometime in the future (probs not though, they seem too big for me) Dead Cells DLC: Ok, with every update this game seems to get, the more tempted I am to get into the game. Actually, why haven’t I gotten it yet?! It looks fun as hell, and it’s got a ton of fun crossovers with Shovel Knight, Katana Zero, Castlevania, and so so so many more games. I Really gotta give it a go at this point. Ghost Trick port: oh HELL yeah, I’ve been wanting to play this one for ages now! The Ace Attorney Trilogy has been a fun way for me to get into those original DS games, and I’m hoping this Ghost Trick port will accomplish the same thing! Bayonetta Origins: It looks ok. That’s about all I’ve got for it. It’s style is pretty different from the other Bayo games which I really like, but this one’s just not really speaking to me as much. Splatoon 3 DLC: Ok, first we’re gonna get Inkopolis as a DLC... Hub? Ok, that’s a bit odd in my opinion. Like, it’ll be nice to revisit Inkopolis after ALL these years, but at the same time it’s like... it’s just a hub... DLC just for an different hub area? Feels kinda... underwhelming I guess? I dunno, just feels like a weird thing to add. As for the Side Order DLC, now THAT ONE’S catching my eyes! More Pearl and Marina, and Splat 2′s hub being completely white and covered in Coral is so mysterious, I love this!! Fire Emblem Engage DLC: I don’t care who you add, I’m not playing this FE Game! Omega Strikers: Honestly, I’ll probs forget about this game in a bit, but I do like the character designs. I dunno, looks fun enough, a neat take on Air Hockey. Might pick it up as a Multiplayer game when I have friends over (ya know, if that ever happens). Etrian Odyssey Collection: Oooooooo, ok, I’m down for this. Only ever played a bit of EOU2: The Fafnir Knight, but the mechanics of it’s dungeon crawling and custom map making was a lot of fun!! Might pick this collection up! Advance Wars 1+2 ReBoot Camp: Hell yeah! I’ve been looking forward to this one ever since it was announced!! It’s also a series I haven’t played before, but it looks so charming and fun, happy it finally has a release date! NSO GameBoy Advanced: Didn’t care much about the GB additions, but the GBA being added?! YEAAAAAH!!! I mean I wish it wasn’t a part of the Expansion pass, but also, YEAAAAAAH!!! I love the sprite work on so many GBA games, and plenty of them I’ve wanted to play myself, so I’m really happy they’re being added (especially both Superstar Saga and The Minish Cap, I fucking love the sprite work in those games so god damn much, AAAAAHHHHH!!!) Metroid Prime Remake: Hell yeah (again)! I’ve always wanted to try the Prime games, so this should be a fun way to get into the series! And available today too?!?! Mario Kart DLC: I’m liking the look of this new course, and getting Birdo in any Mario game is always awesome!! Hoping they’ll add more characters now too since we know that’s not off the table anymore. I’d love Fawful or Starlow to appear in a MK game, but let’s be realistic, that’s not happening Extras: Magalor mode in Kirby seems alright I guess, looks a little forgettable though. That Detective Danganronpa game looks weird. New Fantasy life is neat, first game was enjoyable enough, but I’ll probs pass on this new one. Neat that there’s gonna be a new Professor Layton game. The DecaPolice game looks like it could be fun, but at this point I’m hesitant on any game where you play as cops (though at the same time, it looks to be more Detective than Police, and it’s probs based more on the Japanese police rather than western police. Still hesitant though) And last, but ABSOLUTELY not least

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom: This section’s probably going to get pretty long since I am a huge Zelda fan, but first, let me just say, HOLY SHIT WAS THAT MATTHEW MERCER IN ZELDA!?!?!! FUUUCK YEAAAAH!!! Ok, all of my hype aside though, I am actually a little mixed on him being in it. Not cause there’s anything wrong with Matt’s performance (dude always kills it in his roles!), but because now when I’m playing the game, I’ll just hearing him as Matthew Mercer instead of whoever he’s playing (though, that’s not bad either. Hearing Mercer playing any role is always a very enjoyable experience, dude’s got a magic voice and I love every bit of it). And better yet, was he playing mother-fuckin’ GANONDORF?!?! I mean, he’s not immediately who I would’ve imagined for Ganondorf’s voice, but god damn am I always down for some more wonderful Matthew Mercer villain dialogue, especially for my favorite Villain!! But that said though... there’s also the possibility that the trailer mislead us and he’s NOT going to be Ganondorf, but instead playing the role of a new hidden villain instead (another Zant, Ghirahim, Astor, ect., an evil minion type character). I thought it was a little odd that there weren’t any shots of Ganondorf actually speaking, and Mercer’s voice feels a little mismatched for the (currently) dried up and mummified corpse of the Gerudo King, so that makes me wonder if we’re actually hearing dialogue from an unrevealed new villain (though alternatively it could just be dialogue from a... *ahem*,Rehydrated Ganondorf, but we don’t know if that’s going to actually happen or not). I’m not entirely sold on this theory myself (as I could very easily just be looking too far into some small details), but it is a theory I did want to bring up. The Dialogue and framing certainly point to him possibly being the King of all Evil, but those little things... it just feels... a little suspicious is all. As for everything else in the trailer though, OH MY GOD AM I HYPED!!! More Zonai stuff, plenty more enemy varieties, it looks like we’re getting both some sky islands AND underground stuff, there looks to be a ton of interesting changes to hyrule itself, and I CAN’T TELL IF THAT WAS A REDEAD OR A STALFOS BUT OH MY GOD AM I HAPPY THEY’RE BACK!! Looks like we’re getting some new Shiekah stuff, lots of new Zonai stuff, and Link’s new arm looks so interesting!! God am I hyped for this SO GOD DAMN MUCH!!! May can’t come soon enough!!

i think i also preferred ac odyssey to valhalla! the boat mechanic was better imo and i don’t think i ever got the perfect block timing down for valhalla lol

but the romance in both really took me tf out in different ways

kassandra not really being tied down to anyone, and the one person she does somewhat seem to get attached to (kyra)…doesn’t end up doing so hot and then she’s destined to wander around holding a giant golden staff watching the people she loves and cares about die around her?????

eivor not really being interested in many people other than randvi, and (at least in my playthrough) not wanting to betray sigurd either so the both of them just. pining for an entire game (just to fuck in sigurd’s bed later lol)

and i usually hate spear and bow in other games too! but imo at least, horizon makes the bow super easy to use and the mechanics are really smooth

(and you can pretty much stealth everything)

lol no worries i like long asks. i thought the boat was p useless in valhalla i almost never used it and i hated the controls on it so much i was always having to do k turns and the controls were like backwards for some reason it was so hard 😩 didnt really like the naval combat in odyssey but the boat was sooo much better in that and i would easily take the naval combat over driving the boat in valhalla at all lmao. also yes w the romance i think that was one of the few things i actually like more w valhalla in having like an actual love interest vs only one offs although i wish that there was more u could do w randvi like u cannot even take her on dates? but like yeah kassandra’s story is so sad in that way bc she’s destined to stay alive for so much longer than anyone she loves so it’s like i guess i’m glad she didn’t make any lasting romantic connections but also she deserves it so much 😩 but even tho eivor has a lasting romance i still feel like it’s sadder for kassandra to b immortal than it would have been the other way around…..i feel like eivor despite having so much love for the ppl around her would have taken that as an honor w her sense of duty/want for glory vs kassandra just wanting to be happy w the ppl she loves. esp w the epilogue where shes like i don’t want to do this i don’t want to watch everyone i love die it is so sad fr…..

but that is def reassuring abt horizon zero dawn like i said it’s on my to play list but that makes me feel better abt playing it if the combat is enjoyable for a fellow spear and bow hater lmao….there is a good chance i will try it next once i finish dark souls for sure i def think after i finish that i will want to play smth that is nothing like it…..word of advice since u have not played dark souls don’t play it unless u want to b so angry & frustrated & then feel the life drain out of u when u accidentally use all ur special healing potions u got at the beginning of the game & cannot replenish so u basically had them for nothing now & then immediately lose 8000 souls right after. when u already lost 8000 souls an hr ago. i do not want to think abt it……

Aka Valhalla is good if your an actual Assassins Creed fan not in it because of girls or trash like Odyssey. This game was made for the og fans and the story is praised by reviewers so if it's boring you that's a you problem. Also there are no side quests, those are just world events that don't take less than 3 minutes, short and sweet not running errands like in Odyssey and Origins. Gear isn't the best m, but they're all unique and change appearance when upgraded, still better than Origins and Odyssey where you get these of the same shit but purple and one lever higher.

Dear OG AC fan who feels the need to go defend their cReED under anon flag, I didn't say the story is bad, I say Idgaf about it enough to even follow to have an opinion about it. I even say it's actually good that they return to their roots, but go praise to say how much you love AC see if Igaf. Idk if u try hard enough you may earn a metal from Ubi or something. If I play a game for plots, it's gonna be GOW or HFW. The only AC plot I care for is Animal Crossing.

But there are side quests, oh sorry, eVEnTs that still require me to go fetch shit so which is it? Lmao. In Odyssey the errands are optional contracts you only do when you need the resources to upgrade gears. Though I'll encounter a few later cuz if I don't wanna do it, it's not like there's a quest list to remind me *wheezing*

And oooooo the only 8 gears you get change appearances when you upgrade them, lmao, that's like the material transmog in Odyssey. But shit I shouldn't complain or we'll get no upgrade look next. They already make looting enemies useless, better keep my mouth shut.

Also: I’m so glad u asked because I’ve waiting to talk about this game!!! So far I’m only like three or four chapters in right now and I do like it from a video game standpoint. I really love the main character and a lot of the supporting cast is great! The dialogue does flow a lot better than it did in odyssey which I’m glad about. It’s very fun when you’re running around exploring. And I like that the fighting is a bit different than the AC games so makes it seem a bit more natural.

The timed events, however, being brought in kind of took me by surprise as well as doing the parkour to collect papers (which I have a love-hate relationship with that bc one; omg that’s great that they brought back something from the older games, but two; I hated doing those missions so much bc a lot of the old parkour was so choppy) but all in all I would definitely recommend it 100%!!

Cyberpunk tho from what I saw about how messed up the game is I don’t think I’ll be getting it unless it comes for free on PlayStation Plus monthlys and until I get a PlayStation 5. Idk I’m just scared that if I get it my PlayStation will blow up and die ksbdkeb

Lmao okay but there’s no grand process.

Kirollis- I’m 90% sure he was just a random name generator bonanza. Names are hard for me. I think names are hard for everyone. But when you get the one you want? It’s almost an instant ‘this is it’. Basically for him I just found a name with ‘Kiro’ in it and I knew that was sort of what I wanted it to be. It had a great shortened form. I think I just played around with a ton of endings for the name Kiro before I finally settled on Kirollis. Still probably one of my favorite names I’ve been able to pull out.

Korrinth- Ngl I’m pretty sure for Korrinth I looked at what I had in the character creator (Btw her model has not and will not change. She’s perfect 10/10) and I just sort of knew. Korr from what I remember was one of those ones that I just came up with something good first try and loved it. I was actually a little surprised that it wasn’t taken already.

The fun things about Korrs name I actually didn’t realize until after I made her. I mean not completely, but her name has an anagram of Kiro in it. Which I found hilarious because she had basically usurped his spot as my main. Then the other fun thing is Corrinthia (Pronounced the same as Korrinths name, without the ‘ia’) was actually a city in ancient Greece,  a period I’m absolutely obssessed with. I swear I didn’t do it on purpose. I think I was playing AC: Odyssey and I got to Corrinthia, The land of beautiful corruption or some shit like that which was basically right on kilter for her character.

Soriya- Literally had her name before I had her in game. Because Kirollis’ past is such a big part of his present I basically had most of his close family names in a notepad somewhere. Fun fact, all of his family members -save- for Soriya was renamed at one point or another when I lost the notes and couldn’t remember it from memory. But I liked her name so much it was always sort of on the brain. Plus at the time I was writing for her, which isn’t something I’ve ever done for Kirollis’ now dead family. So like her name was already established in my canon, but again was very surprised not to find this one taken.

Idk sometimes it’s weird. You don’t know a names a name until you see it, and as much frustration that comes with it? When you find the right one it’s insanely rewarding.

WILLIAM FLYNN HALLIWELL

— wow so here we go. I remember very specifically. So my mom got the special Hulu to use the free trial and then cancel it so I watched the first two episodes of Deadly Class on it, then that night I watched the third episode when it aired after I watched The Magicians. I checked gif packs and yep I knew I wanted to do Benjamin Wadsworth. He, as my main, replaced by original version of Peyton Halliwell who I’d been struggling with forevers at that time. So originally I was thinking Henry Jr, but he’d been taken at the time. I’d also been obsessed with this fanfiction series (still am TBH it’s so fucking funny). This is the fic that made me say, I wanna do a damaged child taken in by a semi-adult. The semi-adult in the fic had been a teenager, so I thought of Mick who was playing Wyatt Halliwell and contacted her. ( Also a sidenote bc hilariously, the song came on. RWBY v6 had recently ended and the ending song NEVERMORE (which Will’s lyrics and title are from) started playing literally right now so thats funny ). Anyhow Mick was like SURE, and tbh the original connection idea was just through magic school but then it EVOLVED, I’m legit thinking thru the transcript of our conversation rn it’s wild??? Mick helped me choose darklighter-demon so this is fucking awesome ( go Mick!!! ) I LEGIT SENT THIS FROM THE FANFIC

“Hey, uh. Wyatt? I… I kind of failed my test today.”Wyatt grabbed the bottle of tequila that he insisted they didn’t own and poured it into his coffee. “I know, Will. I was there.” He sighed. Will slid the test across the table towards him and offered a wry smile. “My teacher said our parent or guardian needed to sign it if we failed.” He told him and Wyatt stared at him for a good two minutes before taking a long sip of the alcoholic coffee. He picked up the test and Will felt a stab of guilt for making the man look so goddamn tired. Maybe he should try a bit harder… Wyatt grabbed a pen and dramatically signed the test that he had graded earlier. “Get out of my face you evil, evil child.”

HENRIK MIKAELSON

I can’t go into someone’s DM to help me so this’ll come from memory. I know I wanted to do Brenton, and for a bit I was considering doing him as our then-Davina’s brother connection. But I ended up not doing it bc I had muse for someone else and I was at character limit at the time (crazy right??) anyhow so…. okay tbh I have no idea how my want for Brenton translated into him becoming Henrik Mikaelson bc he does not look like a Mikaelson. I know it def had to do with Titans s2 coming out and a huge influx of muse for Brenton. I think I wanted to do a canon which was where Henrik fit in but honestly I don’t remember and now I’m bothered by it lmao. I know I played Freya thrice before doing Henrik so maybe it was a want for a Mikaelson? I really really don’t know what the fuck happened there. But yes, and his backstory of being brought back in s2 of TO came from another rp I was in where I played Henrik with Robbie Kay and even thou it didn’t end up clicking right bc of the fc, I always fucking loved my initial idea of him having come back way back then. I think my want for him to work with kids and be a caretaker came from Dick and Rachel in Titans tbh skndkngf bc I loved that softness and I was thinking he could have a soft relationship with Hope too, I rmemeber thinking to myself I’d use their huggle gifs for them eventually lmfao. But yes honestly my memory is shit and dusty and while I rmemeber how other huge changes and plots came to be for him, his creation is a molted memory. TBH I’m really surprised no one’s ever yelled at me for how non-Mikaelson he looks/is.

PEYTON HALLIWELL

So, let’s pre-requisite this by reminding everyone I’ve played Peyton Halliwell twice before with a number of three FCs, maybe more that I’m forgetting too tbh. The ones I remember are Lili Reinhart, Ginny Gardner and Taylor Hickson. So what happened here was. Um. Okay tbh I don’t remember too much. My ultimate memory is in the form of me mentioning Natalia Dyer to Sam and him being like I FUCKING LOVE HER DO IT and honestly thats how that happened lmfao. Her personality stemmed from Natalia’s ton of guns gifs and I still haven’t actually done her intro RIP. But yeah, this is finally the Peyton I got right bc everyone actually likes her kdnkgngkng I think. But yes. There’s her origin story, Sam loving Natalia Dyer. 

BARBARA FRIEDH 

Barbara Gordan and Jane Levy. Babs is still fairly new, so I remember enough. I was in/still am in a Batfamily phase. So I was following the Titans tag and they showed a picture of Brenton and Jane in a movie together bc she’s the perfect Barbara Gordan and I just loved her Fc for the firs time, bc in the past I’d seen her and never felt anything. So I found out she had a good number of gif packs and they’re so pretty??? But I was so hesitant bc I didn’t have an idea for her and I didn’t wanna go in half cocked. So I had a gif of her in my drafts for weeks with the name Mar’i or Zoe beside it bc I couldnt think of ANYTHING. but then I was finally like, fuck it. and I wrote her intro somehow?? I rmemeber sitting there so usnure for such a while but then it started rolling and Victoria’s connection just fit. I wanted to name her Babs bc i fucking love the nickname Babs it’s so cute. I almost changed her name but Ace was a warrior for hte name Barbara so thus she became Barabara Friedh. Friedh, is a surname from the video game Lost Odyssey which I liked and yeee. 

JACK KLINE

Okay so here’s the thing. Jack Kline is a soft soft sweet boy who has struggles with three dads and a major guilt complex. I loved him from his first episode. I was hesitant for a second tbh, bc I was like Maybe I shouldn’t. Cause it’d suck to take him on and drop him, or be really bad at him (jury’s still out on that one) but like. I have not felt such muse for a proper canon character in a hell of a long time. So I browsed through his edit tag and i just said, Okay so this is happening. I even ended up making a whole entire gif pack of him in one day yesterday bc resources r a Bich. But yes like. I love Jack a lot as a character. I feel like he made me enjoy Supernatural again bc I found his plotline so compelling and him to be such a good and earnest character who’s just trying so hard and that spoke to me.

But yeah, these are my bitches. Hope you’re happy Gaby.

i’ve loved hearing about your assassin’s creed journey it brings me so much joy!! have you played horizon forbidden west yet? it is open world and there’s a lot of stuff to do but you can turn off the icons with a filter option if you wanted so maybe that could help?

lol i’m glad u enjoyed my commentary on it i had a lot of fun playing them 🤩 ac odyssey for sure one of my fave games ever now & valhalla is up there for sure. i don’t have horizon forbidden west however i did buy horizon zero dawn a while ago but never got around to playing it. i was considering playing it after valhalla but i needed to take a break from open world games atm lol but after i finish dark souls i will def consider it i have heard it’s such a good game so 😩 only thing that has really stopped me from playing it before is that i have seen the two weapons u mostly use r a spear and a bow & arrow which are my two least favorite combat weapons in video games so i’m afraid i will be so bad at the game and my ego can’t take that lol…..will def give it a shot tho & see how it goes

uncharted!!! owns my heart. i got thief's end (4) with the ps4 without ever having played them and absolutely loved it. got the nathan drake collection (which is free!! right now i believe) and then played thief's end again for full feels. it's climbing and treasure hunting and fantastic narrative and beautiful with just enough shooting. the lost legacy is fantastic and gay

if you like checklists, i'd recommend spiderman and assassin's creed odyssey. spiderman, in my opinion, has a better crafted story and solid cutscenes. but assassin's creed odyssey is super long and gives you so much to do and see. so if you value narrative spiderman, if you value getting the most bang for your buck ac

i'm assuming you have the frozen wilds for hzd. if not, do! hzd continues to be the best and i've played it over too many times to count

i haven't gotten too much into the story but god of war is fun so far and the lore seems cool

i have the last of us but i've realized i'm no good at survival games. the story is interesting but i can't get past the beginning ngl

if you need a soft cheap game abzu was nice. you swim around through stages and somewhat figure some stuff out. really fast play through though

Another year gone by and it’s time to pick my personal Game of the Year 2019 titles. Finished a record amount of games this year (44!) and there were so many great games it was hard to pick the best of the best. See the end of the post for a full list of nominees.

1st place: HITMAN 2 (PS4, also available on PC and Xbox One)

Agent 47 is back, balder and better than ever - 8 sandbox locations and 3 sniper levels filled with lethal opportunities and clever humor. This is a game for individuals of culture. I'll leave you to prepare.

+ Creative assassination gameplay at its finest + Great level design + Lively, vibrant and detailed environments full of fun dialogue, juicy opportunities and room for improvisation + Silly challenges that never cease to make me smile + Includes HITMAN (2016) levels for free if you own the earlier game - Some levels were a bit confusing to navigate for me

2nd place: Baba Is You (Switch & PC)

I'm not much of a fan of puzzle games but Baba Is You blew my mind. I like the game so much that after torturing myself solving puzzles for 56 hours on Nintendo Switch I bought the game for PC too. Now I've played it for 34 hours on PC. The feeling of finally solving a level that you were stuck in for an hour and thought was impossible is immensely satisfying.

+ Wonderfully fun and unique gameplay idea + Great level design that forces you to do abstract logical thinking outside the box + BABA IS CUTE (adorable visuals that just work) + MUSIC IS LOVE + Sometimes too difficult and makes you feel like a genius - Sometimes too difficult and makes you feel dumb

3rd place: Ruiner (PC, also available on PS4 and Xbox One)

Atmospheric cyberpunk shooter with fast-paced gameplay and nice world-building. The moment I stepped to the streets of Rengkok I fell in love with the game. This game felt special and I kept thinking about the game after I stopped playing. The cyberpunk feel was tangible. Gameplay is fast-paced and fun with a variety of weapons, both melee and ranged. The few glitches I encountered can be overlooked thanks to the impressive marriage of visuals, lighting, audio and atmosphere. I've now finished the game 4 times on two different platforms. I rarely replay games.

+ Fun, challenging gameplay + Incredible cyberpunk atmosphere + Cool visual style and gorgeous lighting + Fitting soundtrack (bought it together with the game) + Skill point distribution is very free + Short and satisfying game experience - Heavy use of quite disturbing strobing lights - A couple of small glitches

Honorable mention: Etrian Odyssey V: Beyond the Myth (3DS)

Challenging dungeon crawling RPG with plenty of options for strategic team builds to conquer the Yggdrasil labyrinth. Etrian Odyssey V is one of the rare RPGs where I can't plow through boss fights and actually need to carefully consider how to stay alive - I managed to beat the main game last boss on my third try after adjusting my strategy.

+ Fun and challenging boss battles + Light on story, focus is on great and rewarding gameplay + Generous freedom for building your characters + Beautiful art style + Mapping can be set to auto to reduce manual work or you can draw your maps completely by hand - Some skill descriptions were inadequate to illustrate skill's true function - I was left wanting to see my characters' models appear on the screen in combat (à la Persona Q)

Absurdly funny RPG enhanced by its black & white stick figure visuals and hilarious animations.

One of the coolest action games I've had the pleasure to play. The high-octane gameplay fluidly swaps genres from beat 'em up to first person boxing and even shmup.
