I just wanna thank you for being so lovely about the Maru/Seb dynamic 😭 I'm so tired of people babying Seb when he also needs to work on stuff and blaming Maru for his inability to (esp since I agree with you that she's trying to be a good sister and looks up to him). [I'm so passionate about this because I experience my media consumption in a cathartic way - I tend to fixate with characters I relate to (as most people do I think), and growing up I found out that it's immensely healing to love and see other people love said characters. They are flawed yet can be adored by many - so what if I too am worthy of love and appreciation despite everything? Following this discovery I truly started to appreciate more and more complex characters and relationships (or headcanons if the source media isn't as deep), it really is more enjoyable and realistic this way for me.]

I love Sebastian (anyone can tell by looking at my blog lmao) and it would be so boring and reductive for everyone involved to think that he's just a poor guy who never did anything wrong and that the rest of his family are villains. Especially Maru, since she's clearly the one family member making the most efforts towards him. Sebastian IS babygirl and he CAN be held accountable, these two facts aren't mutually exclusive, and from here the resolution is much more satisfying and consistent too!! Especially in a family dynamic where one feels like they don't belong, siblings can be the strongest allies - I'll never shut up about this oh my god 😭

✦ Like you, Sae isn’t interested in small talk at all. In fact, I think it’s fair to say that he doesn't care about people; talking doesn’t interest him. Especially not just to talk. What he wants is to perform, be the best, and pass to the best striker in the world.

✦ "Not easily influenced by what's considered the norm (I don't like conformity much) and by extension social media" Well, I think he couldn’t care less either, and it really makes him sigh in boredom when he sees his face on billboards.

✦ To me, Sae doesn't care about compliments or admiration from people weaker than him, or people who don't know anything about soccer. He sets the bar so high that it's safe to say he's in a league of his own.

✦ Actually, I see two potential romantic dynamics for him: either someone very extroverted, like Shidou, or someone who’s on the same wavelength. Meaning, even if you don't share his passion for soccer, you have a similar general mindset. Basically, you're not annoying.

✦ He's clearly a lone wolf who needs to maintain his individuality. I think you'd be good at that, giving him his freedom. He, of course, lets you have yours. But I like to think that a meaningful relationship with Sae is one where he’s the one who comes looking for the other person more often than the other way around. He needs to desire the other person intensely for it to work.

Last bit of negativity, I promise. Although it isn't really that so much as it's contemplation of character growth and regression.

So the bottom line: I've realized I don't like who Klaus becomes, or reverts to, in terms of masking and roles, around most of his siblings most of the time, in canon. I want to just shake him sometimes. "Stop hiding! You're not that person anymore! You have beaten death itself!"

I think that might be why watching TUA has always felt like pulling teeth. He has so much development away from his brothers and sister, but then is thrown together with them again and becomes this fawning passive intentionally dissociating fake-shallow reticent version of himself. His siblings love him dearly, but AS THAT ROLE and ONLY as that role. Klaus has to be a ditzy, flaky addict that can be pitied or dismissed whenever his presence does not fit with their own personal needs. And then blamed for exiting a uselessly negative situation and NOT being present (to be clear, his sibs have the right to be angry and disappointed with him for bad behavior in the past. This is not me excusing his every action).

It's so constricting to perceive and write him that way because most people see that version of him and think it's the only valid one (when it's actually a survival tactic, a mask, a mirage). But it's become inauthentic.

I'm disappointed to see him very much in the background save two quick glimpses of the promotional material (which, yes, I know is doctored and probably gives us no valid clues as to plot and content). I don't think we're gonna see him confront his siblings in a constructive way, ever ( eg "hey, this is who I am, I've outgrown a lot of the dynamic we had as kids, so have you, and that's okay" ). And just scrolling the reactions on my dash, I can see that my disappointment puts me in the minority because of my desire for media to be bittersweet (rather than just uniformly shocking or grim), with some manner of uplifting and earnest content in its final form, but that isn't what the cast and crew of TUA are about. This is dark satire with characters that you love so much that they break your heart when they abandon themselves over and over. I want to see Klaus sober and healed; maybe a happy ending isn't the point of TUA, for anyone in it. A lot of art, maybe even most art, is not made to be happy. All that it is charged to do is transcend the ordinary and help us to transcend it, too.

So, take my reservations with a grain of salt <3 I'm biased in favor of hope, and cursed with the need to find some kind of higher message to glean from what is ultimately fun, exciting, harrowing sci fi entertainment. It's definitely subjective and foolish of me to want to make an apple an orange, and being nettled that the apple doesn't taste orangey.

💧🙉🌌🌈 for Xanthos! I have to say, I really love his complex character layers and dynamics with AZ. I find him to be pretty relatable especially his struggle with feeling needed and his fear of failures; I'm also the youngest out of my siblings so I feel that sense of wanting to be "useful" . I apologize if this comes off a bit too gushy, but seeing your works helped clarify my thoughts with the media itself and myself.

Aw don't worry about sounding too gushy, I love hearing people's thoughts and I'm glad he resonated with you in that way! I'm a middle child myself, so I do often think about my own sibling dynamics when writing for them 😭 🙉 HEAR-NO-EVIL - what is the worse thing your oc could hear from someone?

Xan is already his own worst critic, and has a bad habit of blaming himself for things that quite genuinely are not his fault (he also blames himself for things that ARE his fault, but that's more understandable 😭). However, it does hurt him a Lot when he's told something that confirms what he already thinks about himself. Being placed in a scenario where he feels helpless, or where he feels weak, are the worst things ever for him.

🌌 MILKY WAY - what was the inspiration behind your oc? what was the first thing you decided about them?

This is gonna be long because I love these types of questions... anyways! Whenever a media has "implied characters" (characters that are mentioned but not seen or named), I really enjoy taking them and giving them a design and voice ^.^ The first thing I decided about Xan was a design feature! I thought it would be fun if he essentially had an "upside-down" version of Lysandre's hair. The idea is still there but less obvious, because this proved to be way too hard to draw in a way I liked 😭 AZ was known as a great king who transformed Kalos into a land of prosperity, but it's also established that in the past, pkmn were seen as tools and not much more, and here was a king who treated a Floette like part of his family. Despite his greatness, he was surely seen as odd for it! The fact that his best friend is a sweet little Floette also tells me that he doesn't mesh well with other humans. What does that mean for his brother? I imagined someone who lacked AZ's skill for invention, but was charismatic and well-liked. And from there I imagined someone who (unfortunately!) would be the type to chastise AZ for not being a "proper" king, who maybe didn't make an effort to understand his brother as well as he should have. At the same I really dislike the idea of "everything bad can be blamed on this one guy," so I wanted to make a character that was complex from the get-go, rather than it being a situation where AZ's brother was just an evil jerk or something. If AZ is secure enough to not care what others think of him and to act as he wishes, his brother must be the opposite. This was my initial thesis for Xanthos, and still my go-to when I work on developing him! He is his brother's opposite. As for why I eventually decided Xan became immortal too... I forgot how the idea came about 💔 but I really like the inherently complicated dynamic he'd have with AZ in such a scenario, and the questions it creates. Is it possible for them to forgive one another after everything that's happened...? I would like to think they can... after all, they have all the time in the world to make amends.

🌈 RAINBOW - what advice would they give to their younger self?

Ohhhh he definitely has a whole laundry list of things he would want to say... other than the obvious ("can you pleaaaassee actually talk to your brother instead of attempting a coup in your desperation to be heard"). I think the #1 thing would be "stop acting so ashamed of the people you care for most! You cannot appease everyone, and this is fine!" The #2 thing would be "stop trying to do everything on your own! ask for help when you need it!!!" (funnily enough... I think a lot of the things he would say to his younger self are things he Does end up saying to Lysandre at some point 😭)

💧 DROPLET - random angst headcanon

Ended up doing this one last because I couldn't decide which little lore tidbit I wanted to use for it 😭 During the reconstruction of Kalos... while it took a bit to discover the Straight Up Immortality, people were quick to notice that Xan aged much slower than those around him. When his sons were both adults, for example, Xan only looked a few years older than them. Eventually this confusion grew into fear, and that fear led to Xan being rejected by his very homeland, despite all he'd done for it. (On this note 💔 Xan's sons were named Xerxes and Yeltaz. The name "Xerxes" is one of Xan's middle names, and the name "Yeltaz" is one of AZ's middle names. As you can imagine, AZ and Floette never got the chance to meet either of them 😔)

Rant on why I love and fixate over Scratch (sorry for bad writing + Long warning!!)

If you couldn't tell by my profile I am literally OBSESSED with Scratch. I first actually started watching AoStH about a year ago, because of a clip of the show I saw on tiktok. I thought it was funny therefore I checked the show out. And omg I became so fixated on Scratch specifically. Also don't expect a lot of these reasons to be deep, I am NOT a deep person 😭.

So first off his personality. I adore how he's both an asshole, but also a total wimp. Also he is so SO dumb but in a charming way. I love when he acts like an actual chicken, it's funny and cute (plus his LAUGH OMG, MOST ICONIC LAUGH NEXT TO PAPYRUS'S). Scratch is just a total loser who tries to act cool and I love him for it. Oh also the way his mannerisms are. Omg. The way he SITS. He'll casually just do the splits. On the floor. And the way he walks. And how he STANDS. HE STANDS LIKE A CHICKEN WITH HIS WING HANDS. IT'S SO CLEVER AND CUTE OMGG.

Next is his design. It's just- nice. It's a nice character design, especially when paired up with Grounder (I'll talk about him in a bit, dw I'm also a Grounder fan). I loveee his outfit (?) he has going on, it's simple but nice. I like his extendo-neck, it adds a LOT to him, same with his wing-like hands and arms. Also I'm bias but chickens and crows are my two favorite birds, so that alone is just a yes for me. His eyes are cute. Simple and cute. His COLORS OMG. I am autistic and some colors overstimulate me, so Scratch and aosth as a whole just- the colors are so pretty and nice. I love Scratch's blue-ish color. It's a very nice blue. Oh and he is SO fun to draw. Thank goodness too, cuz the last character I was obsessed with was Guzma, I love his design too but it's a nightmare to draw. The only thing I'd change about Scratch's design (not counting headcanons or styles) is his feet. More specifically his lack of claws. Where are they?? His name is Scratch, so why doesn't he canonly have claws? It's not a big deal, I headcanon he has retractable claws, but still.

Third, I kinda relate to him? Not too much like I did, again bringing up the last character I was obsessed with, Guzma, but still relatable. I'm also very dumb and gullible, and I'm the oldest of my siblings not counting step. I know Scratch and Grounder are technically twins, but for the sake of this I'm gonna say Scratch is ever so slightly older. I relate to random quirks he has like copying and playing out fictional media I like, talking very loudly, and being extremely clumsy.

Probably the most dumb reason on this but I adore it; his outfits. Omg. His outfits. My favorites are def the knight one, the astronaut suit, and I'm not sure what it's called but the outfit he wears in the Egypt episode when he tries to trick Sonic's ancestor. LIKE HE SERVED?? HELLO?? And those are just my favorites. He has such good style in my opinion, he ate almost every single outfit up (almost).

Ok so finally getting to this: his duo dynamic. Omg. Scratch and Grounder are like- my favorite villain duo ever. They're perfect. They balance eachother so nicely and are literally siblings. I love the type of bond they have. They fight almost constantly over everything, and are constantly blaming eachother for no reason, yet they still care for eachother. It's just not obvious. It's more obvious in Grounder, but Grounder isn't really mean. Evil and a shitty influence definitely. But he's not really that mean? Grounder kinda looks up to Scratch a lot, no pun intended, but Scratch also cares back. He just won't vocally say it. Like he has saved Grounder's life MULTIPLE times. And gets very defensive of him when he feels like it. They're not perfect, obviously. Scratch especially can be a total jerk to Grounder for no reason. But at the end of the day they do care for eachother. Hell even when they're not up to catching Sonic or helping Robotnik they're hanging out together, very rarely do you see them on their own. Once in a while yes they do their own thing, but they do hang out a lot. Also how their designs balance eachother is so nice. Scratch is this tall, skinny, chicken robot while Grounder is short, chubby, and a mole robot. Also little side note, the chicken robots Scratch is based off of (Cluckers or something) drive me insane 😭. Like I died probably 26 times from them. Anyways the colors too. Grounder's greenish teal compliments Scratch's red details. Idk as an artist I just like that fact. Don't ask me any deep questions about art btw, ik I work as an artist but I'm not that smart 😰. I like how even though Grounder is the short one Scratch will coward and cling onto him 😭 it's funny. And I love how chaotic they are. Just two dumbass guys doing dumbass things!! Coconuts when added is also amazing. I wish we got to see them work together more. But Grounder and Scratch on their own are again, perfect.

Oh. Also. I like how they're ACTUALLY separate characters. With a lot of duos I see one of two things happen a lot. Either they have very watered down personalities, or are literally the same person. I like how Scratch ans Grounder work together, but on their own are great characters still.

The final reason is probably the most.. I guess vague out of the others. I just feel like he could have a lot of depth. Ok I know he's dumb. He's made as a comedic henchman. He's not supposed to be taken seriously and it's a silly kid's show. But how him and Grounder are treated is lowkey dark? Like they LITERALLY said they're abused. And that's normal to them. They thought "hm yes let's force our robot kid to do chores! That's love!" Like no.. No that's not love 😭. I feel like that could also be a contributing reason to why Scratch is so hostile and cold, even to people he cares for like Grounder. It's because he doesn't know how to show it. But that's more headcanon territory so I dunno. And I feel like them fighting for a BIT of Robotnik's love tears them apart and it's kinda sad to watch. Like they could be very close but can't.

This was more of a sloppy rant than anything. And I don't really watch aosth that often. Not often enough to remember every single detail. So if anything is wrong I am terribly sorry 😭. But those are just a few huge reasons why I love Scratch so much. That's not getting into tiny specific details that don't really matter at all. Anyways I'm sorry for this long ass rant, I swear I won't do this often 😰 probably just one more time for another "show" if I feel like it, I just felt like ranting today! 2. Favorite canon thing about this character?

That he builds people up! He's the definition of a good man in my books, and one with true strength which comes from lifting other up, rather than push them down. If I could be half the woman he is a man, I'd be happy.

4. If you could put this character in any other media, be it a book, a movie, anything, what would you put them in?

I find these very difficult for some reason, but ... hmmm... actually, I wonder how he'd fit into FMA. I imagine he might get well along with Alexader Armstrong, and would find a talking point about strong older sisters.

9. Could you be roommates with this character?

...Maybe? I find having roommates a bit awkward, and it's different from moving together with someone that you are attracted to. I feel like this might get messy, unless we'd both either develop feelings for each other, or not. I could probably be roommates with him, but I also think that it could get messy. I just prefer either living alone, or then with a partner.

12. What’s a headcanon you have for this character?

I headcanon that sometimes, not often, but sometimes, when he is at his lowest, late at night, he ponders about getting back at William. He thinks about what it'd be like, to get some retribution, a sense of justice, even if he'd have to grant it to himself. At the end of the thought, he always concludes it not to be worth it. Can... can I say my own? Because I am VERY biased towards it, because it brings me joy. As in, I will support anyone who wants to make an OC ship with him too, but my self-indulgent content is in Fue/Oc content. If not with an OC, then... hmm... Hmm... Maybe... uhh.... Fragil? She's a hard worker and cares about the people around her, but also has a gentle side to her.

17. What’s a ship for this character you don’t hate but it’s not your favorite that you’re fine with?

I once saw someone in passing shipping him with Charlotte? So, perhaps that one? I'm indifferent towards it, so I can't say that I hate it, but it's not my favourite. And I'm fine with it.

18. How about a relationship they have in canon with another character that you admire?

I adore his relationship with Mereo. I think that these two have such admiration and respect for one and another, even if Mereo doesn't say it out loud. She's a woman of action, and struggles to give verbal affirmations, but the things that she does say, like "there are people who'd never let me forget it if I was defeated", or along those lines, show that she is thinking about her family, her little brothers and the CLK. She feels that she needs to protect them, but also that she needs to drive them to be strong enough to fend for themselves, if all hell breaks loose. And Fuegoleon, who is very verbal about his admiration for his aneue, clearly adores her. He looks up to her. And to him, Mereo will always be the brilliant older sister, who seems to understand what to do intuitively, whereas he has had to study for it. I just love these two. They have such amazing dynamic, and they fuel each other up, despite the bickering. And the bickering is there, because... they're siblings, and only 2 years apart. Of course they bicker.

20. Which other character is the ideal best friend for this character, the amount of screentime they share doesn’t matter?

Hmm... I think that him and Randal could actually be really good friends. As in, sure, they've worked together for many years, and judging from the way they interact, I think it'd be safe to say that they are on some level of friendship. But I also think that one of @/cradestoryteller 's fics (if my memory serves me correctly) in her series "100 ways to say 'I love you'", I saw some of that friendship and it really made sense to me. I chose to take the "I love you" as a platonic one, because I believe that it's okay to A. say "I love you" platonically to one's friends (at least in English, because different languages have different connotations when it comes to the word 'love') and B. it's always okay to show that you care about your friends. They're both calm, reasonable and responsible gentlemen, who care for others, so I think that they have a lot in common. They also take time to asses a situation without charging head on. But I feel like Randal might make more jokes. That's not to say that he would be making too many, but relatively more than Fue. So, there'd be a kind of a difference as well. So, I think that Randal is a high contender as Fue's best friend.

📼 c for conspiracy : this is a ya novel ! written in a journal-style, it centers around pip sandoval, a genderfluid teen as they recount their school year of 2015-16, their eighth grade class. it was a specific formative year for them and this particular novel has themes of grief, queerness, a huge focus on platonic relationships and dynamics that exists in a classroom-setting. very coming of age. this novel is basically just your middle-school cringe and angst but also that nostalgic feeling, packaged into a novel. a wide cast of characters, most characters are not likable at all but you can't blame them because ! they ! are ! just ! kids ! also, have you ever looked at the kids from middle-grade books and you thought, "god they deserve to say fuck". well, they do in this book !

🌀 rendezvous : this is a weird one. and hugely different from the other mentioned stories, because this is definitely a story that is not meant to be published ever. this has a backstory, this was a collaborative story my friend and i had written together. it started off as a single story with a small plot line and it was a blend of all our inside jokes and all the media that we loved. it has evolved to something more. it became an entire universe of its own and it has really gotten to a point where new characters are added and now, though i am the one who writes it, almost every single one of my classmate has added something to the story and it has became such a Thing. the basic premise is this: there is a school. it is the most unorthodox school. the headmaster is my friend. rendezvous follows this school and its occupants. rendezvous is not the name of a single story, it is more the name of the universe and the school in which they study in. it can't even be considered original fiction: most characters are the literary versions of my friend, their names directly taken, all except the name of my counterpart. even though most characters are teens, or at least adults aged down to teen, there are some adult characters. all the adult characters are reimagined historical figures. the remaining characters are already existing characters from pieces of media, they have the backstory of the media they come from, their behaviors are almost the same except a little different because of the circumstances of rendezvous. it is a Mess.

so, about Billy and Max's relationship, i don't get why everyone is so up in arms about it.

I know not every one lived in abusive households (kids in abusive house holds reflect their guardians abuse but as a love language cause we're so screwed in the head and it's literally the only way we know how to interact with others in a family sense) but still did y'all not fight with your siblings, like fight-fight, physical and emotional... did you not have offensive nicknames that slowly became a term of endearment... did y'all not bond over your hatred for one another... like my sibling was my enemy first and foremost, but right after that he was my best friend.

there relationship felt so normal to me, like yeah, he was rough at times (please take into consideration the character Dacre and the other actors were trying to portray and not the duffers who pushed actors boundaries and forced racist plot lines that both Dacre and Caleb fought against) but everything he did was a trauma response. he's a scapegoat, forced to take the blame of everyone's wrongdoings in the eyes and hands of his abuser. every time Max steps out of line, whether she knows it or not, it gets Billy hurt. there is resentment, but Billy never tries to hurt her. he loses his cool, he lashes out, but he has so much bottled up it to be expected, he's literally being beat emotionally and physically by his dad. he actually shields her, never letting her become aware of the abuse even to save his own skin. he tries to discipline her himself the only way he knows how, so she doesn't make herself a target to Neil. it's a dynamic they were forced into, it needs to be taken into consideration when thinking about there relationship.

I think Billy was a character that could only truly be understood by abuse victims. yeah others like him, but normally the defining feature of their attraction is his looks, his false persona he uses to attract fake friends and older women so he can feels some semblance of control and motherly love, or they want a pity project. which like, is fine, but I think having his character constant dulled down to a hot guy with confidence and anger issues kinda ruins him within the fandom. the second we stop seeing him as the victim he is, the second he becomes a villain. and it hurts as an abuse survivor with a sibling (we have the same age and family dynamic as max and Billy, with me being older) whose abuse made a not so pretty dynamic with said sibling, it feels like shit. I spent so long trying to convince myself that I wasn't just another abuser to him, that I never meant to hurt him, that we were victims of our parents and we both hurt one another because we didn't know anything else. but a Billy is a villain in the eyes of those who ignore all that, and it hurts, that representation for the not so nice side of being an abuse survivor is dragged to high hell cause he can't be babied or infantilized. it's not fair, I don't care if you think that's drastic, it is not fair that abuse survivors who aren't your little beans, to finally get good representation in media immediately have that character demonized.

billy and Max's relationship as portrayed by Dacre, is your typical abuse altered sibling dynamic and we need to treat it as such. it isn't lesser then your average relationship, it doesn't hold less value, it isn't less important. its an abuse victims normal, and hate to break it to you, max is a victim but Billy isn't her abuser, he is a victim as well, and sadly they are forced to bump heads. get over it.

they are allowed to hate one another, they both deserve apologies from a shit ton of people including each other. max might deserve one more then Billy in terms of between each other, but he still deserves one. they can both be guilty of causing harm, whether they meant to/if they were a victim or not. but at the same time, I have lived that dynamic, and I know how deep down, you love your sibling more then you love yourself, especially as the older scapegoat. you feel this need to protect while not physically able to, so you do your fucking best, and it will never feel like its enough.

if they had a chance to grow a siblings, if he could just escape and find a place were he was loved, he would be the best big brother. we know he is an empathetic person, a good, kind person. but even the kindest of people can snap, and only knowing abuse would do that. if he had a chance to grow and he joined the party, he would be such a big brother. none of those kids would know pain or violence if he could help it. he would be their scary dog, so to speak. but he would also be the type of walk them through every scraped knee with a gentle tone, he'd be the silent shoulder to cry on, the person you go to for a big hug, the group punching bag (not like in the bad way, but like the type to just tussle with the kids whenever they were rambunctious). he would probably love Joyce like his own mama. he clearly craves a moms touch and if he found a place were he didn't have to charm and seduce someone into touching him gently, he would break in all the right ways.

I speak from experience, and I will never stop defending him. give him a break, please.

Today I’m gonna talk a little bit about relationships and how Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous hits the nail on the head. Now when you think about relationships I know most people immediately think of romance, but today I’m mostly going to be talking about platonic because that's what the show is very good at. 

Platonic relationships, and I’m talking actual good ones, are extremely hard to come by in any media. Whether it’s books, tv shows, movies, regardless if they’re made for kids or adults. A lot of the time they lack depth and/or just become romantic especially between boy-girl relationships and I think that shouldn’t always be the case. As a raging lesbian I have a bunch of guy friends and I see them as brothers, but even for the straights it shouldn’t always be the “oh guy and girl are good friends ok they’re dating blah blah”. Friendships are very valuable and media should really showcase that more. This is what originally attracted me to this show. It’s incredibly difficult to have such a big cast in general, but it’s even harder when all of them are actively great friends with each other and work like a family. So here’s some numbers. In a group of 6 there are 15 different pairs of two, that’s a lot. That’s a crazy amount and it’s even more daunting for the writers because each one of those relationships is gonna be different and trying to flesh all of them out will take time. But this show spares no explanation when it comes to this. Out of the 15 different duos the show has actively explored 14 of them. I can’t emphasize how incredible that is. In just 3 seasons, 26 episodes, 14 have been explored, you could argue 15 but the last pair isn’t quite there and I’ll explain why below. 

So here’s my list, for my convenience I shortened all of the names and I’ll put a key below just in case:

Alrighty now comes the pairs, I’m gonna write a little on each and explain how I think their dynamic is and how well they’re written. Also I have a small phrase to describe all of their relationships and I’ll be adding that as well. 

D & K - Darius and Kenji have gotta be one of my favorite pairs in the show. They are arguably the most fleshed out duo of them all because they’ve had a lot of screen time together since the beginning. My phrase to describe them would be “sibling rivalry”. They have experienced a lot together and both of them have grown so much. I mean they started off hating each other and all they did was butt heads, but as time went on you could tell they truly do care for each other. I think they both see each other as brothers and for Kenji, Darius is a crutch to lean on. I really hope they make up after what happened at the end of S3. I want it to feel natural, but I trust the writers. 

D & Be - Darius and Ben were honestly a friendship I expected from the beginning, which is why I was surprised that most of their development happened in S3. They just have this unspoken understanding of each other and it’s clear they care for one another even if it’s in unique ways. My phrase to describe them would be “lifelong friends”. To me these two are the ones I think will always stay friends no matter what happens in life. Sometimes things can be tense between them, but Darius has always been understanding of Ben after his fall. Darius blamed himself so much, but Ben never did. I was so happy and satisfied that the first “I love you” of this show was not only platonic, but between these two. I’m curious to see how their friendship will grow. 

D & Br - I really thought Brooklynn and Darius were gonna fight a lot more than they did. Both of them have very strong personalities, but I actually ended up liking their dynamic so it was a nice surprise. My phrase to describe them would be “comforting”. Not as in comforting to the audience, but as they comfort each other when times are hard. They hug each other a lot and regardless if this is romantic or not, it’s sweet. Their relationship is very consistent throughout the series and I like it, this seems to one of the more stable friendships so they don’t worry me as much as the others 

D & Y - Yaz always has interesting relationships with people because she was very closed off when the show first started, Darius is no exception. To me there’s felt very natural and the phrase I would use to describe them is “older-younger siblings”. Darius never pushed Yaz the way Sammy did, which isn’t a bad thing btw, he just doesn’t approach friends like that. So instead they went very slow, but honestly I like it. I like how the show shows that some friends form fast and some take a little longer. Yaz is very patient with Darius and she really lets him act like a kid. A lot of the time it’s just him rambling and her listening, I really enjoy this friendship and I like how simple and yet calm it is. 

D & S - The arguments Darius’ and Sammy had were something I didn’t expect. I really thought the two of them would get alone, but I like how we as the audience can see the battle of mortality. Doing what’s right vs what’s good. That doesn’t mean they don’t get along though, Sammy is a real sweetheart and has always been kind to Darius. My phrase for them is “butt heads but still get along”. They know how to work together and they know how to calm each other down. This is because they’ve been in several serious situations with one another.

K & Be - These two have always been an interesting pair. They started off hating each other, but after Ben’s fall it was clear that Kenji cared very deeply for him. Their reunion was so sweet. Phrase for them is “caring but pretending not to”. Romance aside they have such a unique bond and I really hope we get to see more of it. They have been very distant with each other and I think it’s an interesting showcase to what happens when both characters are closed off. They get defensive quickly and it’s evident that they have some unresolved problem that needs to be addressed.

K & Br - When I first watched this show, at first I couldn’t get a read on what they were going for here, but it came through later on. My phrase for them is “brother and sister”. They are both very understanding of one another, and they keep each other grounded. They have such a lovely platonic relationship, and I admire how much they care for each other. Not to mention both of them know how to help lead, and I hope we get to see more of that in later seasons. 

K & Y - Kenji and Yaz are polar opposites of each other, and that’s why their friendship is so interesting. They balance each other out, and they literally dedicated a whole episode to showcasing this. Kenji taught Yaz how to relax, and she taught him how to be more serious when it mattered. But within this they both also confide in one another a little more. So therefore my phrase for them is “a shoulder to lean on”. A personally love their friendship and I love how they can understand each other without saying anything. They like to sprinkle in this duo a lot and I’m here for it. 

K & S - These two were practically destined to get along because both of them have such a carefree attitude. But within their cheerful front there seems to be a deeper layer. My phrase for them is “comedians with a twist”. They clearly get along, and I love to see them on screen together. Kenji was the only one to never bash Sammy during S1, and was even the one that helped Brooklynn forgive Sammy. It’s clear they both care a lot for each other, and I’m curious to see their future interactions.  

Be & Br - Remember how I mentioned that I felt there was one duo that wasn’t quite there. Well this is it. We know how both characters act by themselves, but they’ve never held a conversation on their own and we’ve never really seen them interact outside of a group setting. I would describe them as “not explored enough”. I really hope they do get explored though because I think this could be a fun duo. 

Be & Y - This duo is more on the side of underdeveloped, but not quite like Ben and Brooklynn. See these two have had moments together, but it’s few and far between. One thing that does stand out though is that Yaz clearly listens to Ben’s advice. Usually when he suggested that the group are not gonna be friends once they make it off the island. My phrase for them is“sorta tense but valued”. Yaz values Ben’s words, and he does so with her as well. But other than these small moments we don’t know much, probably due to the fact that Ben was gone for most of S2, which is where a lot of development happened. 

Be & S - I really thought Ben would be the last one to mess around and pull jokes on Sammy, but here we are and I love it. I feel like most of the campers were really gentle with Sammy, but wasn’t afraid of a little harmless fun. Sammy was always first to hug Ben and I just think their friendship is super sweet. My phrase for them is “playful siblings”. Sammy has always had a soft side for Ben, and I wonder if it’s cause he remind her of one of her siblings. Regardless of why they get along, I want to see more of them soon.  

Br & Y - Their friendship at the start was bumpy to say the least, and frankly I liked that. Not all of them were going to be friends from the get go and it was nice to see them have to awkwardly become friends. Especially after both of them were at each others throats in S1, and to me that’s why their friendship was that much sweeter when it happened. My phrase for them is“competitive friendship”. They don’t really butt heads anymore, but I doubt they’d pass up the opportunity to try and show each other up for fun. 

Br & S - Originally these two got along fine, but they had to start over after S1. It was interesting to see them earn each’s trust back, and now I think it’s clear that they have each’s back. My phrase for them is “tense to comforting friends”. Sammy approached Brooklynn first for their little “mission” in S3 and I think that’s very telling of how far their friendship has come. They both seem very approachable for one another. I think it’s a cool how their rivalry quickly became a friendship. 

Y & S - My phrase for them is “literally gfs”. Honestly that’s all I have to write because it’s so obvious, but alas I will elaborate, cause I have a habit of doing so. Sammy seems to be Yaz’s first good friend, and she clearly helped her “get out of her shell”. Yaz was the first to defend Sammy, and even in the aftermath, they eventually get close again. The long run? Yeah that entire episode was dedicated to them, no more explanation needed. They mean the world to each other and I really hope they’ll be canon one day, wishful thinking I know, but let me.

Why do people act like Sansa was so unlikeable and difficult to sympathize with in agot. I loved her from Arya's first chapter for God's sake 😭😭😭 when Arya was bitching about her. I always thought we needed totally feminine, prim, proper female characters like Sansa in fiction. There are already too many Arya's and Dany's.

If you begin reading the story thinking that a character’s POV is the author’s factual representation rather than an attempt to give us a a fractured picture via intensely personal experiences/interpretations, it’s easy to accept the premise presented in AGOT, Arya I which is Sansa is to blame for Arya’s misery. Also, the idea of the beautiful girl that has everything who makes less attractive people feel inferior, who mistreats people lower down on the social ladder, that has the potential to tap into personal grievances, so people respond to Arya’s feelings without thinking about any of this from Sansa’s perspective

Think about that last highlighted bit. If you take that as gospel, you are going to think horrible stuff about Sansa and Cat. Obviously, Arya is upset and and not giving us an accurate reflection of the situation, but it isn’t immediately countered. It takes a while to get a Sansa chapter, and when we do get her POV, it’s after she’s betrothed and getting attention from the prince which seemingly supports Arya’s feelings. That means, even when the turn comes, when Lady is killed, some people are too entrenched in their view of Sansa as the vicitmizer, and Arya as her victim to realize that all along, Sansa has also been a victim.

In fact, in Sansa I we get a glimpse of how Arya’s behavior puts a burden on Sansa and makes her feel bad:

I have siblings, so I suppose I’m used to the “everyone is experiencing their own version of this event” idea, and I like Arya’s rebellion and Sansa’s dreaminess, so I don’t react negatively to either girl. They’re sisters, of course these dynamics are present! But, if you accept Arya’s attitude toward Sansa as factual, then you misidentify the cause of Arya’s inferiority complex, you might even hold Sansa responsible for the words/actions of their Septa who is cruel to Arya. If fans are stuck reading things this way, instead of realizing Arya’s pain largely comes from being forced into a role unsuited to her interests and personality (in contrast to Sansa who is suited to the role by personality and interests), they’ll decide that Arya is right, her suffering is at Sansa’s hands, although we’re shown (not told, shown) this isn’t the case. I believe the idea is to show how their society fucks over every woman, regardless of how much they attempt to rebel, regardless of how well they “obey” (saying that makes me shudder), but that’s just not something fans can absorb if they hate the girl who suffers in a different way.

More broadly speaking, there are trends in media, so I understand why at one point it was necessary to create characters like Arya who refuse to conform to societal expectations, but, the reaction to Sansa, the way the fandoms tries to vilify her for wanting to marry and have kids, for enjoying romance and songs and stories, well, it proves that we need more characters like her too. The goal should be to have every version of femininity represented in fiction, to be more inclusive and representative, so it’s a shame that a character like Sansa is hated for her interests when so many people see themselves in her.

But, I should also note, my sister doesn’t like Sansa. She doesn’t say anything mean about her, but the character isn’t personally meaningful to her. There’s nothing wrong with that. Different characters speak to each of us. That’s fine. What’s disturbing about the ASOIAF fandom is that it doesn’t stop with “not my fav”and instead devolves into unfair criticism, misinterpretations of her motives and actions, and then really horrific takes.

“Are you excited?”

“I’m nervous.” You let out a measly laugh while Tom’s left hand moved from gripping your thigh to hovering above your lower abdomen.

You weren’t showing yet, of course. It had only been a few weeks since the two of you had found out. Two years into your marriage and the two of you had discussed to start trying for a family. You’d never told anyone that, so you expected the announcement to be quite a surprise for everyone.

Tom was a very private guy, especially growing up in the public eye. His family was off limits, and the minute you came into the picture, that trait only amplified. Now that you were married, he’d been a bit more private about his marriage life, especially around his family. It was a weird dynamic at first, because Tom is a very open man who loves his family very much.

But he also knows his family isn’t a private one when it comes to the media, and involving you would mean every aspect of your life would be outed. And he didn’t want that, so the two of you weren’t ridiculously close with either of your families.

It was a weird detail, really. One you didn’t really notice until a year after your marriage.

It was even weirder, however, that there happened to be an entire week where both your family and Tom’s family were available for a lunch date. Harry was usually writing an album or prepping for a tour, and you were glad he kept himself busy. Tom and his younger brother would usually be working on a project together, so having everyone home was exciting and nerve wracking.

“They’re all gonna know we’ve had sex.”

“I think they knew before,” He chuckled at your reaction, mouth ajar while you slapped his upper arm playfully.

“Who’s fault is that?”

“Sure, blame the guy who knocks you up.”

“Okay, mister.” You shuffle his curls, which are arranged messily for a Saturday.

Fifteen minutes later and the two of you are walking into the Holland household. You can already hear your brother’s minged shouts and hollers about whatever conversation he must be having with Harry, Tom’s brother. You’re quite certain you’ve never seen such a British interaction.

“The all-star couple is finally here!”

“Hey!” Harry drags out the end syllables while he brings you into a sloppy hug. “Baby sis.”

“Don’t ever call me that again,” You laugh at his tone, the words foriegn for him.

“Yeah, that was weird as fuck the minute I said it.”

You glanced over to Tom, who was hugging his brothers and his mother. You grinned as you made your way over to them, embracing them just as he had before linking your hand with Tom’s and sitting in a patio chair beside his.

“How is everything in your married-life?”

“Low-key, really.” You admitted, it was true. The first few months had been exhausting yet fulfilling, but now you felt yourself settling down for the long run. Tom could feel it too, especially with the unannounced baby Holland on the way.

“Yeah, mum,” He bit into a snickerdoodle. “Not much going on for us.”

“Didn’t you just wrap that upcoming film?”

“The London one, yeah.” He nods along and you get lost in conversation with Sam and Elysia. They’ve been together for quite awhile, and you suspect their own wedding might be within the near future.

You’re about an hour into the lunch when you make eye contact with Tom, communicating without words. He stands up, wiping his hands off on a napkin before pulling you up.

“We have… some new to share.”

Eyes glance up to the only two people standing at the table, and Harry (your brother) swallows a bite of bread before encouraging you. “Well, get on with it then.”

Your mom whips the back of his head, and you laugh. Gemma chuckles at them before glancing at you inquisitively. You’re very open with her, but from the look on your face, she knows this is something nobody else knows of.

“We are very happy to announce….” You start it, but urge Tom to finish what you cannot.

“That the newest member of the Holland-Styles clan will be coming by the end of this year.”

You watch as mouth’s drop open in the final realization at what this means. Gemma sits back in her chair, left hand above her chest, against her shirt with wide eyes and mouth ready to catch flies. You smile in excitement, and Nikki and your mom stand quickly for hugs, pushing their chairs back as they scrape against the concrete of the backyard patio.

Tom’s hand is linked to yours still, and when you momentarily let go, you feel almost abandoned and lost without him.

After a few rounds of accepting ‘congratulations!’you realize your brother has yet to move from his seat. When you glance at him after everyone’s settled back down, he’s looking in his lap. Gemma catches on, and so does Sam. Eventually, all eyes are on the Styles boy.

“Har?” You speak hesitantly in the tense situation. “You okay?”

When he picks his head up, he sniffles and you notice his red eyes. You jutt a lip out as you hear a few of the girls vocally “aw” at his state. He stands quickly, chair scraping just as everyone else’s had, and he makes his way over you.

You get lost in his embrace, hugging him tightly. He’s still crying slightly as he whispers a few words into your ears. He’s emotional upon realizing he’ll be an uncle in just a few months, emotional upon realizing you’ve grown up so much from the little girl that used to rub frosting on his nose and dimples.

You rub his back soothingly, and when you separate he gives you a weak smile. He maneuvers around you to hug your husband, who chuckles when he’s embraced roughly, tightly. Their hands are each on each other’s back, and a memory flashes in your mind, one of your wedding, when Harry cried so much you had to ask someone to buy more tissues.

You’re nostalgic about today’s encounter, and you don’t know what to expect when the baby really does come.

You’re seven months along, baby bump big as ever. Tom’s almost as protective as Tessa now that you’re so far along. As far as cliches go, you’ve just arrived to a basically surprise baby shower. You know it must’ve taken Tom weeks to plan something like this, and it must’ve been even harder to keep it a secret from you.

You kiss his forehead when you finally see why you’re at his mom’s house. Both yours and his moms are conversing in the corner after greeting the two of you. There’s a table of presents beside a snack area. You can see a few of your craving-snacks, and you hug Tom as best you can. He kisses your temple.

There’s not many people here, only your closest friend circle and your family members. You see Harry and Gemma in the corner, and make your way over to your siblings with a smile. You're swollen with the baby bump, so you’re not moving as fast, but you’re just as excited.

“Baby on the way,” You announce as you hug them. “Thanks for doing this, guys.” You blush as you gesture to everything around you. Harry shrugs with a cocky smile, and Gemma smiles lovingly. You see Sam and Elysia heading towards you, and Gemma makes her way to the snack table for some lemonade.

“Y/N!” Elysia drags out your name in excitement, hugging you carefully. “How is everything?”

“Ugh,” You groan jokingly, a hand rubbing up and down your bump. “Exhausting, really. She’s a handful.”

She smiles, and Sam’s hand stays on the small of her back as she leans into him. He excuses himself momentarily, and you lean in close to Elysia when he’s gone.

“Are you two engaged?”

She looks at you with a blush before shaking her head. “No… but I feel like he’s going to propose soon.”

You squeal and try your hardest not to cry. “Man, these hormones are crazy.” She laughs, nodding along. Unbeknownst to you, Sam had made his way over to the two older brothers of the Holland family. They’re sipping beer by the patio sliding door.

“Hey, guys.” The boys look up at the sound of Sam’s soft voice. He’s almost hushed, and they use context to realize he looks a bit serious.

“What’s up?” Harry’s hand pats his shoulder as if to comfort his anxious state.

Same turns his head to look at Elysia, who’s across the yard talking to you. “I think I’m going to propose soon.” Tom nearly chokes on his drink. “What? Man, that’s amazing!” He’s whispering out, breathing erratically from excitement.

Harry stares out, blinking in surprise. He’d seen in coming, but that would never amount to the realization that the Holland boys are growing up. “Do you have a ring or something?” They huddle close as Sam brings them closer in response to Harry’s question.

He pulls out a velvet box from an inner-jacket pocket. When he opens the case, they gasp in awe.

“Man,” Tom pats his back again, lovingly. “I’m happy for you.”

“Thank you, man. I’m nervous.” He wipes his hands on his thighs as he hides the ring in his clothes again.

“Don’t worry.” Harry glances over at the two of you. “She loves you so much. You’re gonna get the happy ending.”

They continue talking until your mum, Anne, announces it’s time to open a few presents. You reunite with Tom for the first time since arriving, trying not to come off as too flustered, but you know you are. You know you’ll cry — and dramatically too, because your hormones are off the radar — if anyone gives you a really meaningful present.

You open a few, some just basic cleaning supplies for diaper-care, others range from cute clothes to bedding sheets. When you open Harry’s gift, it’s a CD case with a picture of the Styles family on the cover.

When you open the case, you see a message in print. He’d written you a few songs, for Tom and the baby too. You nearly burst into tears as you stand up as quickly as possible. Tom helps you stand while you make your way over to your older brother, hugging him as if your life depends on it.

“You’re gonna be a great uncle, Harry.”

When they said the birth process was painful, they didn’t mention how much. Tom fainted about an hour and a half into it, after glancing where he shouldn’t have. You laughed while the doctors got him standing again. He was by your side for the entire time, and when you finally gave your last push, the two of you heard the wales of your sweet baby girl.

“Did so well, love.” You’d heard him whisper while he kissed your sweaty forehead.

Seven hours later, you were sitting up after having just slept for a good amount of time. Scarlet was sleeping calmly in your arms. Tom was squeezed onto the bed next to you, arms carefully wrapped around your exhausted body. He’d cried four times already.

“Ma’am, your families are here.” A nurse had come into the room with a small smile before opening the door wider to allow visitors in.

Harry and Gemma were first up. They’d been here the longest, having received a call when they were closer to the hospital than everyone else.

You glanced up when you heard Harry gasp. “She’s beautiful.” He whispered, tip toeing over to the bed, seating himself in one of the chairs.

“C- can I hold her?” You nod, handing him the small child. He graciously takes her in his tattoo covered arms, holding her head cautiously while he coos at her. She wakes momentarily to giggle at the new arms. He visibly pouts, and when you notice water on Scarlet, you grow worried.

But all of that is washed down the drain when you see Harry’s red, teary eyes. He smiles happily, even through the tears, and you breathe out a laugh through your own cries.

“She looks just like you.”

You wipe a tear away, reaching out to hold one of his hands.

“Just like you.”

This might be a very unpopular opinion but I dnt think Louis is out to all of his family members. I think a very select few know his truth and that's why I dnt believe in everybody in industry knows, they are married and all that stuff.//

This is fascinating. Can you say more about why you think this?

I don't know what I think. I think Closeting is very common in the entertainment industry and because it is so common, I think it probably isn't the big deal we think it is. I look at it like I think they were together in the band and they learned to hide it. And then they got out of the band and kept doing what they have always done.

Harry and Louis are an interesting situation because they are both famous and they both have the Larry rumor over them. Usually when someone is closeted, it's not openly talked about that they are closeted. Some people might speculate, but they don't have an entire fan base of 'Larries' openly talking about their closet. (Not to blame Larries, I think they want it to be talked about and do things so people will talk about them).

you might be right. I can see it from your viewpoint. The more people that know, the less of a secret it is.

Do you think he is not out to protect Larry (or another same sex relationship)? Or do you think he is not out because he doesn't want family to know he is queer?

What about Harry? Do you think his family think he is dating Olivia?

I really think at least some of Louis’ family views Eleanor as his girlfriend. And I think it’s possible that he treats her like his girlfriend in their presence, too. In the beginning, I think very few people knew - perhaps only Anne and Jay and a select few others (like Robin). And given how young Louis’ siblings were, it makes sense to me that Eleanor would simply be introduced as Louis’ girlfriend and become very close with his family. However, even after Louis and Eleanor got back together, she still attended family gatherings. The case in point for me is Christmas, which Eleanor usually spent with Louis’ family in Doncaster. And even when Eleanor was absent this past year, Phoebe thanked “El & Louis” on her story for her new Gucci sunglasses. Maybe that was Phoebe saving face, but I kind of suspect that Louis said that was a gift from him and Eleanor. Even if the Tomlinsons see El as a family friend at this point, none of Louis’ other friends are spending Christmas with his family. And if Harry (or anyone else) is Louis’ partner, he’s missing out on a lot of these family gatherings, too.

Similarly, we most often see Louis and Eleanor spending time together in the presence of his friends. I think part of that is easily explained away as Eleanor enjoying music festivals and clubs, plus it makes sense that she would be integrated into Louis’ friend group after all these years. But still, I find the Elounor dynamic most convincing when they’re in the presence of other people, mainly Louis’ family and friends.

Anyways, I’ve thought a lot about this because Eleanor’s involvement with Louis’ family has always been a sticking point for me. I don’t want to get into who knows what, but I think it’s possible that Louis isn’t explicitly out to all his family and friends. Or maybe they know or suspect he’s queer but don’t know much about his personal relationships, etc. I also look at the way some of Louis’ family has approached social media (including Mark and the older twins) and I can understand why Louis would feel the need to protect himself (and possibly his partner) in this regard. (Mark said he’d spill family secrets in exchange for 500k Instagram followers. Troy blackmailed Louis through the press and threatened to “drop a bombshell” if he couldn’t see Louis and Freddie - we thought he was going to out Louis. And the twins…) It feels weird talking about this because it seems really naive to think that I, a stranger, could possibly know more than Louis’ loved ones, but this is how it makes the most sense to me. I also don’t think this type of dynamic is at all unusual for queer people and their families. As for Harry, I think his family knows.
