the beauty of this entire series, particularly the books for me but i do love the show, is that the nuance and wiggle room between monstrosities and man is the poetry of the story. it is beautiful that these creatures have this tiny gasps of heart and happiness and hope despite who and what they are.

i can scream into the void all week about armand and claudia and daniel bc those are the characters i most identify with bc of my own personal trauma. HOWEVER, that does not take away my ability to see that EVERYONE needs therapy.

Some people are born to love, with the perfect recipe to find their other half. It's truly satisfying to witness their love. Even Tyelkormo, the gremlin of the Feanorian household, could see it. You and Nelyo were annoyingly good for each other. Every moment he witnessed you two together, he couldn't help but notice how beautifully the world shaped itself around you and his eldest brother.

Seated on the farthest couch, he observes as you follow Nelyo, trailing behind him with a befuddled look. Of course, his brother was late for court, again. "By Illuvatar!" Nelyo exclaims, one minute away from turning over the living room. "I swear I left my brooch here." The first time Maitimo brought Kano to meet you, he wore his best clothes. Kano, being a prince, had plenty of good tunics to choose from, so he carefully weighed the merits of each piece of clothing in his wardrobe the day before meeting you.

He had been excited to get an inside scoop on Maitimo's secret before any of his other brothers. Even his amil and atar had yet to find out.

A celebration of life for a very special rat.

Juice Box, May 2021 to April 5th, 2023

I knew that neither of them would be around very long. I was told time and time again that they only lived 2 years or so, 3 if you were lucky and 4 if you had an immortal on your hands. I thought I would have been ready for it, when the time came. I had seen people and pets pass before. I was wrong.

I'm not going to talk about his sudden failing weight. I'm not going to talk about him shrinking compared to his brother. I'm not going to talk about the medications and special diet I used to try and ween him back to health. I'm not going to talk about the half a dozen vet visits I took him to in two months, trying to buy him comfort and health for as long as I could. And I'm not going to talk about the gradual recovery, only for a steep decline to suddenly take him within 36 hours. That's not what this was about. This is a celebration, a show of love to the little gremlin that improved my life tremendously even while causing me problems. The best I can give him now is a digital memory that will, luck serving, even outlive me. An extension of existence that only I can provide. A digital rat ghost, and a way to show off my best boy to the world, one last time.

I had bought them on a whim. I was working nights, my mental health was at its worst, and like all fools, I decided on a bit of retail therapy. I have no idea how I landed on a rat breeder site, but it went downhill from there.

I drove for 3 hours after a 12 hour shift to pick these two goones, Juice box and Jimmothy from the breeder. Those are the names I gave them because at that point I was delirious from caffeine and excitement, so named them the best I could

I had no idea what I was getting into whatsoever. You look at that adorable, photogenic man and tell me you expected trouble! But he was. Although not as brash and indipendet as his brother, he was a escape artist through and through. He was the one that first broke out of the cage when I wasn't looking. I found him 10 min later, watching me from the trash can.

And then under the dresser

And later, on the bed after breaking into the snacks.

I would later have to modify the cage to keep him and his brother from escaping. What I learned first is that rats were smarter than you would give them credit for. They would engineer escapes if they caught me slacking, pull things through the bars of the cage, the works.

But what I learned about my pocket puppies was a diffrence of personality. Jimmothy was, and still is, a tank of a rat. Even at two years old, he fights off my younger rat Jeepers with ease. The man is nearly 500 grams but according to the vet is "Healthy as a old man could possiably be, if a bit fat." Hes always had a personality to match. A rowdy, demanding rat with an independence streak a mile long Juice box turned out to be a god-damned goofball.

Jimmothy, if given the ability, would mug you for cheese. Juice box? oh he would just share it and try to be your friend. There wasn;t a brain cell rattling around in that head that wasn't dedicated to friendship. So he was a goofy, dumb little goblin.

Unlike his brother, he would sometimes come up and just flop in your lap, or hang out on your shoulder like a fuzzy parrot. He didn't pretend he didn't want your love like his prideful brother.. He had no pride, only love in his little heart.

He of course, cuddled most with his brother, something he grudgingly went along with. he was the runt after all, and like the little brat he was he got what he wanted. But that didn;t mean he shunned human company completely.

He would let me pose him for these silly little photos as well, but I didn't just use him for my own artistic desires, I enjoyed some smuggle time as well.

not to mention he would groom me constantly. At first I thought it was just something tastey on my hands. I would not assume love out of this simple act. But after some tests, washing my hands with non sented soaps, and even showering, he still groomed me. A simple act that showed me how much he cared, in his own little air headed way. I find it funny that I have so few picures of this act, despite the fact he would do it for half a hour if allowed. I guess I was too busy enjoying the moment.

That's not to say his brother didn't love me, Juice was just more willing to show it. Jimmothy had his ways but he was much like a cat in that respect. I was also his second fav. His love for his brother was unmatched, even when he was being a bit of a bully.

They would fuck with each other constantly, steal food from each other constantly, and play wrestle. Pretty much brothers through and through. Little shitheads that they were

But although his brother hadn't aged a day, Jimmothy began to slow down. I won't torment you with that slow painful process. But what I will share with you is a small ray of sunshine. A small, warm moment, from me to you. And a comfort most other rat owners needed to hear.

As he got older and started to slow down, he grew more gentle and more attached. he would run to me during their playtime and cuddle into me. He would bury his little face into my shirt. He would even hide under my shirt. The little scamp was most likely getting away for his more energetic younger brother. But then he started getting sick.

And all he did was seek time with me. He would, even wobbly and ill as he was, clamber up to the cage when opened and try to climb up my arm. He would fight me when I went to put him back in the cage, weakly, but still. I thought at the time he was seeking comfort and quiet with me, while the other two healthy rats ran rampant. Now, I'm half convinced he did it for me too. I had thought them animals, smart, but animals none the less. I am convinced he knew his time was coming far before me, as I stubbornly fought to keep the reaper at bay for a few months more. But he sought me out for comfort, to be held, every single time, even when he could barely move he strive to climb up my shoulder or fall asleep in my arms. He felt safe. He trusted me when he must have been scared

The last week he spent alive was spent close to me. He didn't want to wander so I would keep him at my desk, so he would be close. He had put on weight that week, and had been eating pretty well and responding to antibiotics. But on his last day on this earth, he refused to eat but would bury himself in my warmth whenever he could. I remember watching shitty youtube videos while petting him the entire morning, a day I had had off for once in a long time. I was showered from the gym and in fresh clothes. I put him down in his pet bed, tucked him in, and got a little writing done. And then he was gone. It's the only comfort I had, really, that I was with him when he died. That although I wasn't holding him, he didn't feel alone, he didn't feel scared. Rats tend to go out loud, screaming and fighting. Juice box passed so quietly that I only noticed when I picked him up and he was cold. I am sure, that he knew he was loved. All your rats know that you love them. Take some comfort in that although their lives were short, you were their entire world.

So I am a nonbinary transboy. I use he/him pronouns and occasionally they/them pronouns or even neopronouns when I am comfortable enough with a person. I am almost 22 years old. I am queer (maybe bi, but a strong preference for boys and maybe girls in a poly relationship), poly and demisexual.

I am very tiny, a shrimp, a gremlin, 5'0. I have rather fair skin, crystal blue eyes and short wavy dyed dark red hair (sticks into every direction, untamable curls). In summer I have freckles across my nose. My style is a mix of alternative subcultures, mostly grunge and metalcore.

I am autistic! I can appear as shy as I struggle in social situations and have severe social anxiety but overall I am rather loud and roudy even. Just very bubbly and passionate. My special interests are vampire, musicals, RE Village, Jurassic Park and Sleep Token (and Ghost haha). I can also appear as rude as I am really sarcastic and have a good amount of dark humour. My love language is bullying. But also gift giving and acts of service. I love showing people I appreciate them without having to say it (or openly show it.) I am very hesitant of intimacy but also crave affection and closeness. Overall I am rough on the outside and soft on the inside.

I have chronic pain and some days struggle to walk and stand for a long period of time generally. I have severe anxiety and depression since I was a child and a problematic relationship with my parents (got kicked out last weekend). I have the lowest self-esteem and can't see myself as lovable.

I like to say I despise humans and would gladly live in isolation but I love kids a lot and study to become a teacher for Latin. I also love caring for animals and have a special way to connect with them. Especially cats seem to seek me out and find comfort in my presence. Besides having fun in caring for others, I like listening to music, mainly rock and metal but honestly everything, drawing, scrapbooking, playing videogames and boardgames and reading. I love to sing and dance and would love to learn how to play the guitar.

-As of 2023 I am 21 years old, introvert, genderfluid aroace polyamorous lesbian , norse heathen witch, who has unspecified neurodivergences and disability.

-Personally I'd sum up my personality as chaotic, tired, and socially inept. I have trouble with social interactions at times, either forgetting how to interact with people normally, low spoons, or my social battery is dead.

-My genderfluidity is a mystery to even myself sometimes, so I tend to go by they/them for simplicity. I'd say I'm still figuring out what some of my genders are, though I'd say none of them fall strictly into masculine or feminine categories, even if I like more feminine or masculine pronouns at times.

-I use the term lesbian cause it feels right. I am not attracted to men in the slightest. Edit: changed cause well, figured out identity stuff. Aroace, short for aromantic and asexual. I also am polyamorous. For anyone curious I am single, mainly because I don't know how people flirt and talking to people is hard.

-I am in many fandoms, that it has become a game of what fandom I shall fall into next. That also means my brain is full of so much fictional knowledge that I wonder if I will run out of space in my brain.

The power to put themselves in the position of another and understand where they are coming from. Their fears and apprehensions. Their complex soul in its myriad facets. But I fear your kind too. The way you can smile one day, and plant a knife between spinal plates the next. The way you will support emotionally, only to later use that information to make sure your attacks hit harder and have nigh-guaranteed crits.

I've been constantly making Battle Cats content since I got back into it in September because the game gives us almost nothing and have had no one to talk to about it this whole time I could theoretically talk about my favourite characters for HOURS. - I love seeing how our stories/headcanons are similar and different! My Satoru and Warlock have also partially built their bond on the foundation of doing stupid things for fun.

- Both of them aren't exactly normal and well-adjusted little boys with prior experience hanging out with friends, so they often experiment with the things they do together to see what they enjoy.

- Warlock has some strong gremlin energy when he gets excited. Satoru's gremlin energy is much more subdued but gradually intensifies the longer he spends in an excited Warlock's vicinity.

- It goes the other way around too. Warlock can get a little unstable and Satoru, being the more grounded and "normal" one, has figured out the best ways to pull Warlock back to reality and comfort him when he's nervous, stressed, or panicking.

- They're very protective of each other. Warlock especially is sensitive to subtle changes in the people he cares about.

- They form a friendship trio with Saki sometimes! They're all frends and they have a good time

- They both have September birthdays, Satoru on the 2nd and Warlock on the 29th.

- Yes! Summon and Pierre are close too. They never had the tension their masters had/have because they're 500+-year-old otherworldly beings and not incredibly fickle small children. They look creepy but when off the battlefield their chill vibes are immaculate.

A story about that summer evening is in progress. I can't say when it'll be finished because my writing pace is either extremely fast or glacially slow depending on the day but it's currently at 3.2k words and I don't know how many more it'll end up having.

Here's to hoping I can start actually finishing some stories and art in a few weeks when my current semester is over and I don't have as much work to do.

Hey sorry about taking like a whole week and a half to reply I had my headcanons validated and I panicked.

- They met early in the year, when Satoru was just being welcomed into the Cat Army. However, Satoru was freaked out by Warlock's whole vibe and Warlock was deep in a guarded and distrusting phase, so they... didn't exactly like each other.

They gradually got closer thanks to Saki. She joined shortly before Satoru and set her sights on befriending both of them almost immediately. They kind of became friends by association.

Their friendship was cemented about five months after they first met, in the middle of summer and partially by accident. They went from having a tense yet gradually softening relationship to being undeniably close in the span of just under a few hours. Much to the confusion of everyone. They are the only ones who know exactly what happened.

- They balance each other nicely. Satoru is extroverted, loud, adorably pure and optimistic, and an idiot, while Warlock is introverted, quiet, adorably aloof and snarky, and also an idiot but in a less obvious way. They are constantly reigning the other in, or more often failing to reign the other in because they have more fun that way.

- Despite being the introverted one, Warlock is usually the one approaching Satoru and inviting him to hang out. He proceeds to let Satoru pick what they do together almost every single time because what they do is just a vehicle for spending time with his friend.

- Satoru likes to go on long-winded explanations of whatever he is excited about to whoever will listen. Warlock just sits there and listens (and occasionally falls asleep on his shoulder).

- Satoru is more sensible and safe, but easily caves to Warlock's unhinged, impulsive whims if he has no backup. He wants to make sure that Warlock doesn't do anything stupid without him.

- Though they are obviously very close friends who love each other very much, they are weirdly reluctant to say so out loud. Maybe it's the last remaining bits of that initial tension refusing to let go. They can be prideful and irrational little things.

(This doesn't stop them from doing all the things friends do together, they just refuse to say that they're friends.) (They aren't fooling anyone.)

- They love hugs and cuddles and being close in general.

I have some half-finished fics involving them (and half-finished Battle Cats fics in general) so maybe if I get some actual writing motivation I'll start posting my longer stuff here.

Calum closes his eyes and takes a deep breath, straightening his legs enough to hear his knees pop. he hates that his joints crackle like a glow stick at 20 years old, but he's also been on his feet for most of the day leading campers through recreational sports. The end of week talent show is going to be a welcome reprieve, even if it's hot as hell in the amphitheater despite the sun long having set. There's a gentle roar of kids chatting excitedly and cheering every time a member of the tech crew crosses to set up something on the ground, and he takes another pull from his water bottle in the hopes that the noise doesn't give him a headache at the end of a long day.

At least his campers have been good this week. Last week his middle schoolers were little terrors, but this time he and Michael got lucky. Luke and Ashton got the short end of the stick with a group of rowdy twelve-year-olds who have tried to sneak out every night.

"Hey," someone sighs near his shoulder, and he glances up to see Luke blinking at him, rubbing his forehead the way he does when he's particularly tired. His shoulders are slumped and there are dark circles under his eyes that will hopefully disappear after a weekend without campers, but the heat makes his hair curl against his forehead in a way that Calum absolutely loves.

"Hey," Calum says after a beat too long. "Where are your kids?"

Luke scans the crowd, then vaguely gestures somewhere towards the middle.

"Ashton has them over there. Michael's talking to him."

Calum cranes his neck and finally manages to spot Michael's bright hair. He's squeezed onto the bench next to Ashton and appears to be content to stay there a while.

That's fine. Calum doesn't mind swapping partners for the night, especially if it gives him more time with Luke, a commodity that's difficult to come by with campers running around and their own separate classes to plan for. Things were easier in previous years when they were bunk leads like Michael and Ashton, but being bunk support as well as teaching staff makes for a great pay raise and significantly less free time. They can't throw their cabins together and use that as an excuse to hang out, because Calum and Luke are now busy during most rec times or group activities.

Calum turns his gaze back to Luke and finds him blinking slowly, seconds away from falling asleep on his feet.

"Hey, you okay?" he asks, nudging Luke gently and then wrapping a hand around his arm when he tips back further than he should.

"Tired," Luke says, forcing his eyes open. "I'm still not used to dancing for hours on end every day and the gremlins don't let me get any sleep. My entire body aches."

Calum makes a sympathetic sound in the back of his throat and stands, manhandling Luke onto the bench in his place.

"Here, take my seat."

"You've been working all day, too," Luke protests halfheartedly. Calum shakes his head.

"Sit down, Hemmings," he says sternly, using his eyebrows for emphasis. "You're going to fall over if you stay on your feet."

Luke sinks down onto the bench with a sigh and rubs his eyes. Calum puts his hand on the back of his neck and squeezes slightly, feeling how tense and coiled Luke's muscles are underneath it. He needs a week off and a good massage. Calum wants to start rubbing his shoulders and see if he can make a bit of a dent in his astronomical stress levels, but that's not a good idea in front of the campers. No one heckles like middle school boys teasing an authority figure, and Luke would bear the brunt of it when word inevitably gets to his nightmare cabin.

Calum lets his hand fall, sliding down Luke's spine on the way. It's sweaty, which is gross, but everyone is sweaty and gross in the dead of the summer after a full day of teaching. Luke dances with his students all day, whereas Calum can get away with telling his to run drills and scrimmages while offering verbal corrections. "There's ten of them. I think they have a chance," Calum teases. Luke's pout deepens, but Calum can see the poorly contained smile underneath it. He'll let his campers throw him in the lake tomorrow, and he'll laugh the entire time. It's basically tradition at this point.

The campers around them let out another cheer as another crew member crosses the stage, connecting one final cable. She taps the microphone at the front, a dull thump projecting across the amphitheater, and the campers cheer louder. Luke rubs his temples.

"Do you want to go back to the cabin? No one will mind," Calum says gently, crouching by him so he's not in the way of campers behind him trying to watch. His hand lands on Luke's knee for balance, and he lets himself keep it there now that everyone's focus is on the stage.

Luke shakes his head.

"This is my favorite part of camp. I want to see my dancers perform."

Calum hums, glancing at the senior camper who is emceeing for the night as they take the stage to welcome everyone here.

"Let me know if you need anything," he says, swiping a thumb over Luke's knee.

Luke glances down at him and smiles, dimples popping in his cheeks.

"Come sit," he says, scooting over on the bench as far as he can without running into one of Calum's kids. It leaves only a sliver of space on the bench for Calum, but he takes it anyway, using it as an excuse to get close to Luke. Luke wraps an arm around him under the guise of helping hold him up, but Calum knows that it's mostly because Luke is a touchy person, even when it's too hot to get close like this.

"Enjoy the show!" the camper onstage says enthusiastically. Everyone in the audience cheers, and Luke holds his free hand in front of him, waving it until Calum gets the picture and slaps their hands together in a clap/high five hybrid, laughing the entire time.
