Three reasons to love Ruggie Bucchi

Just some things I love about Ruggie to spread the love!

Hyena on a mission 

Ruggie is money hungry. He strives for a better life and what do you need for a better life? It’s money. This actually made me love Ruggie because he’s so careful about his spendings. Growing up in the slums has caused him to value everything he receives. Similar to Vil, Ruggie sees a value in even the smallest of things. Although, unlike Vil, it’s not in people, but rather much more materialistic things. 

We see this pop up many times in Ruggie’s vignettes involving food. Such as using the roots of spinach or even eating dandelions. If his mission is to live a better life, then Ruggie is for sure on the right path. 

Oddly comforting to be with? 

Who else has noticed that Ruggie is one of the sweetest characters to be around? When in a normal conversation Ruggie is very casual when talking to others. He comes across as himself. There’s nothing to be held back from him and I love it. You can clearly tell he’s not trying to use someone nor is he uninvested in the conversation. 

I find this part of Ruggie to be oddly comforting because you wouldn’t expect this knowing how money hungry he is. It’s due to how casual he comes across that most characters who talk to Ruggie are comfortable. In a way you don’t feel threatened by him, but that also makes it perfect for Ruggie to pick-pocket you so be careful! 

Househusband material! 

Ruggie can cook, clean, and serve. What more do you need? Is it strange that I love how he can do all three? I hope not. I personally think everyone should know how to do all three so seeing Ruggie being capable of it just makes me happy. 

However, most of the time when Ruggie does one of the three it’s because he wants something in return. What I do appreciate about him, is that he’s up front about what he wants. Most of which is just a good meal or even a few extra bucks. Nothing too shady about Ruggie, unlike a certain octopus…

listen there really was just something about how in the book, snow’s 3-page descent from hesitant lover boy to deluded mfer happens entirely in his mind. lucy gray gives him no indication whatsoever that she suspects him, that she’s going to leave or betray him. he’s just sitting quietly in the cabin waiting for her to return when that seed of calculated suspicion, which he has needed to survive the capitol, takes a hold of him and chokes the life out of any goodness left inside him. it really drives home your terror as a reader that “oh my god did he kill her? did she escape? what happened to her? why would he even think that?” in a way that when the movie had to adjust for visualization it lost some of that holy shit this guy has lost it emphasis.

i wonder where the idea of chilchuck being a deadbeat came from when theres like. no textual evidence for it ?

he knows what all of them are up to; he still writes to flertom and she sent him his neckwarmer, so that to me implies that they at least have a somewhat positive relationship?

its more ambiguous with meijack and puckpatti, but since meijack is also a picklock, i wouldn't be surprised if he taught her himself, considering how trades are often passed down through families, and because he talks about sending people to her if he dies.

also the way he talks about puckpatti is very like... it's obvious he wants her to take things more seriously, but he's accepting, and his tone here reads more fond to me than anything else.

like, he keeps his daughters' old toys under his desk? that doesn't scream 'deadbeat' at all, it screams 'empty nester' who doesn't know how to reach out or is scared to do so

EDIT: i know a lot of the 'deadbeat dad' stuff is jokes, but some people are Not joking and genuinely think chilchuck is a bad dad. this post is not saying that you cant joke about it; it is just outlining what canon shows regarding his (clearly positive) relationship with his kids.
