I don’t like how they retcon stolas and Blitzø being childhood friends retcon. To me, it ruin the idea of a sexual relationship turning into a romantic one. Plus it makes more sense, why stolas didn’t save blitzo in murder family (because he only saw him (blitzo) as an sex object back then) despite being his childhood best friend (pretty big plot hole when you think about it).

That’s such a valid point and defs a very interesting dynamic to bring up! I can see how that a skew someone’s perception of the story.

My personal interpretation is slightly different only because I see The Circus as not retconning the story to chance their dynamic- but really only serving as an explanation as to why/how Blitzo even knows about Stolas/the grimoire in the first place. Because without that, then we’d have a plot hole there. We had to be given some sort of reason as to how Blitzo, an imp, had any idea of the powers of the goetian Prince Stolas.

Also, when they meet again stolas says something like “it’s been.. 15 years?” Which, to me, indicates that they haven’t seen each other in that long and thus their “friendship” didn’t last more than that day- so they weren’t really proper “childhood best friends” - esp the way fizz and blitz were.

Although I agree that it was kinda a shocking turn to have it suddenly go from “strictly strangers having sex” to “oh wait but they knew each other in childhood!” - I agree that changes that dynamic a bit.

Maybe it means that they kind of always had feelings a bit towards each other? And that’s why they created a “sex-only” deal? Like maybe it secretly wasn’t always just sex to them?

But yeah! Those are my thoughts on this fr! It’s so interesting considering how The Circus kinda changed the plot and their dynamics as we know it.

WINTERDAD AU #1

(part one because this got way too long. this is essentially the plot of an old fic i started back in 2020 and what would've happened of i'd continued it. i might try and write it again one day, perhaps, if i don't give up after 2 chapters. anyway here we go)

- mary parker was a shield agent when she met the winter soldier, both were on a mission. they fought, but never got as far as mortally wounding each other. mary would always slip away. it was like a game. bucky had been kept out the ice for a few weeks at that point, running a long job. but the longer he's out, the more he starts to remember little pieces, who he used to be.

- mary feels pity for him, seeing through the stone cold image hydra forged for him, to the person within. they fight. but then they also talk. they keep seeing each other while bucky scouts. eventually one thing leads to another and they develop a relationship of sorts. 

- mary later discovers she's pregnant but bucky never finds out. he's taken back, wiped and put under the ice once more. mary quits her job at shield so she can provide for her kid and keep them safe. knowing full well if anyone in shield or hydra caught wind that she was carrying the winter soldiers child, they'd never be safe.

- she's sad that bucky disappeared again, she knows hydra likely had him wiped and iced again. but she moves on, meeting richard soon after who she tells she's expecting a son, that the father disappeared without a word (technically not a lie) he tells her he'll love him like he's his regardless.

- when her son is born she names him peter james parker (during the few weeks they met, the last time they talked, bucky ended up remembering his first name, mary wanted peter to have at least a piece of him)

- peter ends up looking a LOT like bucky. he has the same shade of dark brown hair, facial structure which shows as he grows. but he has mary's eyes)

- the plane crash was really just an unfortunate incident. peter still goes to live with aunt may and uncle ben when he's seven. and then things go as they usually do in canon. the avengers form, yada yada all that stuff, you know the drill.

- when he's 14 peter is bitten by the radioactive spider. BUT. an important detail here is that due to the expiermentation bucky was subjected to by hydra and the enhancements which altered his genes, some of that, though remaining dormant, passed onto peter. but it didn't really do anything, it was just there. but it did keep him alive after the spider bite. without those enhancements in his blood peter would've died. instead, he gained his powers.

- uncle ben still gets shot, which as usual influences peter to become spider-man. and months after tony still comes along and recruits him to fight in germany. peter does.

- when he briefly faces bucky ("you have a metal arm? that is AWESOME, dude!") neither know so that also goes as normal. bucky is bewhildered by the kid who managed to block a hit with so much force behind it, while also shocked to know that he was just that, a kid.

- now one vastly different thing here is that while the avengers do split for a good year, steve and tony eventually talk and make amends. the avengers reassemble, deciding that they need to put the world before their feud. they're not on super good terms, but they tolerate each other. tony still refuses to forgive bucky.

- homecoming happens during the time where things are still rocky between the avengers so peter still deals with vulture alone. but he does see tony more often, stopping by for lab days to work on his suit among other things, to keep up the "internship" charade. tony grows fond of him, though he doesn't admit it.

its post homecoming where things start to go wrong.

eem I'm definitely late to answering this but hey I can always be insane about Glenn <3 anyways do you ever think about how much Glenn *needs* things to stay the same . that the second anything changes he just acts like it hasn't and if he doesn't bring it up no one else will and it'll all be fine and nothing has to be different and so he'll be ok right . when Morgan dies he keeps wearing his wedding ring and he keeps all her clothes in the closet . but there are no pictures of *her* in the house . or at least not many . because that's to close to actually bringing up the fact that she's gone, that there aren't any recent photos. he says she's still his wife, even though she's dead, and has been for *so long*, because otherwise he'd have to accept that she's dead and that things have changed. there's a million other things I could pick out about Glenn and his resistance to change but I like Morgan so I'm gonna just talk about her <3 thinking about Glenn getting with Jodies Morgan post s1 . at the end of season 1 he says he knows that's not his Morgan, and maybe in the back of his mind he knows that. maybe for a little while he can pretend that she's not Morgan, and he has his Morgan, and he can leave this other Morgan alone and continue living with the ghost of his wife he's lived along with for so long. but she's *right there*. and she is a constant reminder that he *doesn't* have his Morgan. and she's so similar to her though, and maybe she could *become* his Morgan, then things will be back to normal and he really will still have her and his family can be right again. and so often he forgets that this new Morgan wasn't always his. most of the time he can pretend that his Morgan is back. but then he references the first time Morgan caught him wearing her clothes, and she doesn't remember. because she didn't. and Glenn is forced for just a moment to remember that things are different. Morgan is different. he goes quiet for a long while before he can shake the feeling and again relax into this little lie hes built around his life in order for things to stay the same.

anyways yeah I think about Glenn and Morgan a perfectly normal amount as you can see .

Hi! Seeing the Scene/Emo!Reader x Alfred blurb just brought the biggest grin to my face. Combining the blurb where she sees Alfred’s flannel/jeans picture, something just clicked— baby photo exchanging. While Alfred somehow got his hands on yours, you had coincidentally done the same while wandering the Manor.

I can only imagine the blank stares when the two panic at not having their own album where they left it, meeting in the library with “something to show you”, and the blank stares that turn into laughter at realizing— the other had it and they were scared for no reason! Alfred probably got a new contact photo after that, too 😅

Aww I’m so glad it did, now I’m grinning! 💌 and ohh I absolutely love the baby photo exchange idea!

I feel like a man like Alfred Pennyworth really values hanging onto photos, the idea of a time or place or person captured in a picture means a lot after all the life he’s lived and all the loss too, it’s so beautiful to have a placeholder for memories and moments across his life he hopes he’ll never forget so he’s got a collection of photo albums from over the years, some that he’s kept for the Wayne’s and some of his own.

The delight in coming across them when you’re wandering around Wayne Manor one day, in his study perhaps, the beautifully bound leather covers catching your eye, you don’t think you’ve seen those books on his desk before.

You guess that they’re just old editions of classics at first until you open one and see photos and it takes a moment to register that one in particular isn’t a baby photo of Bruce like you thought, it’s dated much too far back for that and then it clicks that it must be Alfred. Can you imagine how cute he would have looked?! Giving proper little English lad even then ahh!

“Something to show you.” yes I love that! The excitement of it all, the anticipation!

Not realizing that the other has the photo is funny and very endearing, you’re bewildered how he even managed to get his hands on a baby photo of you, quite sure that those were buried archives but there you are in the library and he’s got such a sweet smile on his face when he presents your photo to you and then you show him his and you’re both like wait a second…🤭 how cuteee and laughing together about it afterwards, sitting down together to look at the photos in detail, which turns into exchanging stories and maybe even showing each other more!

Alfred would probably rave about how adorable he thinks you look and I fully believe he would tell you he’s keeping that photo forever and there’s nothing you can do to convince him otherwise.

The new contact photo is too real also haha, love everything about this!

The last time Donnie saw Leo they argued and they fought. Donnie was being dismissive, avoidant and the two literally physically fought. All the meanwhile Leo was just confused, extremely worried and wanting to find out what was going on with his brother.

The last time Leo was seen before something happened to him, guaranteeing blood splattered walls and a broken tracker, was him and Donnie chasing each other through the city and having a confrontation.

Donnie was the last person to see Leo.

And he left him, didn't he? He just ran away and left Leo alone. That's gotta weight on his conscience a lot, I think?

Like, firstly, Leo got sick because of Donnie. If not for Donnie's venom, Leo wouldn't have been stuck in the medbay and on the verge of fucking death. And now? Leo could be bleeding out somewhere because he fought with Donnie, and then Donnie left him?

Re: the announcement like I think it's a not great idea for various reasons and the rollout was absolutely atrocious but yeah people are being so shitty like I hope it does well! I get why people are upset but wishing for their downfall just sucks!

I feel the same like first seeing it I was like hm. don’t know about that. I agree about them fumbling the rollout too like communicating/marketing big changes if def a weak spot for them as a company (thinking about how poorly organized the ghost files tour announcements have been both years here, and also some of the merch drops) but a lot of people are acting like this is a personal betrayal or like a curse on your blood lineage or something like guys. they’re not jeff bezos they’re just some dudes who wanna make funny videos

OK this time I'll focus a little more on the actual designs themselves and my thoughts on how they relate to the character + their stories. Read more because well... You know me...

MC/FeMC: So for Orpheus I think its a pretty fitting choice for the protagonists. The protagonists are on a Journey just like Orpheus journey out of the underworld (kinda on the nose lmao) and both of them have strong connections with music! There's probably some connection between the underworld journey and the fact the plot of the game is to stop death but I'm not sure how to word it if you get me. I also like how they really resemble the protagonists face and hair wise! The mechanical detailing is also a neat touch, I've always seen it as the protagonists being very closed off with their emotions (that's kinda of a trend with a lot of the P3 cast I feel, the inital personas are very stiff but then the 2nd tier have more human feel to them).

Junpei: I think Hermes is a really good choice for Junpei. They're both kinda tricksters and Hermes is often portrayed as being carefree (in media at least) which suits Junpei a lot. In terms of design I think its pretty good, I really like the over exaggerated wings on his feet (the iconic winged sandals Hermes usually rocks) and I like his helmet design. My favorite thing about him as I mentioned before though is actually his animations. The way he slides into the enemies reminds me of a baseball player sliding to a base when they're running between bases (Idk baseball that well I hope that makes sense). Very fitting for Junpei considering his choice of career in Arena and also how he uses his sword like a baseball bat!

Yukari: Io is an interesting one for me. I really like her design, I think the girl in the cow head is a very fitting look for Io (who was a woman who got transformed into a cow by Zeus. Io's story is very sad imo (classic Greek woman gets screwed over by Zeus story) but I'll be honest I've never been totally sure why they went with her for Yukari. I think it works don't get me wrong and I like the choice I just don't see why (I, as I'm sure you can tell, am very passionate about Persona designs and I do my best to understand the choices behind the character and design of the persona and how it relates to the user). It just got pointed out to me (shout out to you Rui) that the way the woman is chained to the cow is kinda symbolic of how Yukari is chained to her past and I think that's a really really cool detail!

Akihiko & Shinjiro: I have to combine these two for obvious reasons. Polydueces ugly design aside for a moment, man. This choice for Akihiko is so good because of its connection to Castor. Regardless of how you view Akihiko and Shinjiro's connection, the way they are so connected to each other and how interwoven they are as characters to the point their personas are literally twins?!! Absolutely amazing I don't think we've had as powerful a persona connection since. I really love how their designs reflect each other two, Polydueces with its lighter and more alive design versus Castor and his dark look and the sword that's embedded in his chest? Symbolizing that he's the mortal twin that dies in the legends? And then connect that with his story in the game? Blows my MIND conceptually the best personas in the series actually. I love them.

Fuuka: OK I love Lucia and how she interacts with Fuuka. Having that glass orb as her body and have Fuuka in there navigating for the team is really really cool! I really like the pose of the persona (there is something about it... blanking on why that is relevant to its design). I also love the detail of her eyes being covered as she is the Patron saint of the blind! A cool choice for a navigational persona. Something about her being considered a martyr is fitting for Fuuka too. I also like how different it is to the others (a lot of the others having Greek connections whereas this is a Catholic saint).

Mitsuru: Oh Penthesilea my absolute beloved. I've discussed her in detail before (mind you probably two years ago at this point) but like one of my favorite things about her is the weapons she uses. The sword, particularly a rapier is seen as an honest weapon. A good knight has a sword, a skilled duelist has a rapier. Mitsuru is a very strong and experienced Persona user (and ofc is a fencer herself). She's convinced everyone she's on this noble quest to fix the Kirijo Group's mistakes, which is partially true to be fair. But her other weapon? A dagger. Associated with dishonesty and treachery. I feel like this alludes to her being dishonest with SEES. I adore Mitsuru but even I can admit she was sneaky and kept important details from SEES (she had her reasons but still). And ofc the treachery I feel is less her and more Ikutski betraying her trust and her father's trust. Also her being dishonest about her own motivations! And then ofc the big details: the absence of red in Penthesilia's design and her face being fully covered by the mask! Showing the walls Mitsuru has built up around herself!!! Sorry I just love Penthesilia and will over analyze her a lot.

Koromaru: Honestly I don't have much to say here but that's not a bad thing! Cereberus is really true to the original myths, a three headed dog with a hellish looking design and that's what they've given us. It's a solid design and I love him!

Ken: OK my own thoughts about Nemesis aside, I think its a really well executed design. It's a very unnerving and angry looking design, perfect for the goddess of revenge. And obvs her being a goddess of revenge is very very suitable for Ken given his motivations up until October 4th! The color scheme really helps with this too. Just a very edgy design perfect for Ken.

Aigis: Palladion is really cool because it's not actually a person but rather an object! Specifically an object associated with protection very similar to aegis. Which well, is perfect for Aigis. A robot dedicated to protecting the protagonist. I can't quite put it into words but its just a really really cool design. I like the big metal spike going through it, very robotic and always reminds me of the front of a pirate ship, not sure if that was intentional tbh.

Metis: OK Psyche is tricky for me. As a design its really cool. I enjoy the butterfly motif a lot. I really like its dress too and I think it resembles Athena which makes a lot of sense given who Metis is! Why Psyche though? The only connection I can make is that Psyche was originally a mortal who was considered so beautiful people mistook her for Aphrodite. Which I guess ties into how Metis was mistaken for Aigis..? Idk there's def a connection here somewhere but I am not sure of what that is. It's still a cool design though.

And I think that's everyone? Hope I didn't forget anyone man this was fun to do. Congrats if you read it all LMAO

why did you dislike ses4? and was there anything you enjoyed recently?

oh boy. i think it would be easier to tell you what i DID like about the season. i can count it on one hand. (1) ruby. she's my queen. (2) adam making it explicitly clear that he identifies with the bi label. (3) gillian anderson. she's just soooooo ugh. i love her. (4) NONE OF THE BAD BITCHES CHOOSING OTIS. maeve and ruby both deserve better fr. (5) aimee reclaiming some agency. cannot even think of a sixth thing. that's how bad this season did not worked for me. i said i was not gonna rant but i guess now i am gonna rant a little (trying to keep it short for both of our sakes).

i think there is definitely some more technical and objective stuff that's wrong and with this season and then there is some stuff i personally didn't like but that may work for other people.

objectively, i think the writing was severely lacking in quality. it was SO LAZY. even uninspired. the plot was meandering and the arcs fell extremely flat as a consequence. they randomly introduced interesting internal and external conflicts, sometimes even towards the end of the season, that could have spanned the entire eight episodes, but then they often just drop those ideas like hot potatoes—sometimes by the next episode, sometimes by THE NEXT SCENE (e.g. otis basically taking over a surrogate parent role or feeling like losing his mom, basically everything ruby-centric that wasn't oatis-related, jackson questioning his sexuality, etc.)!! other storylines that didn't have to last for several epsiodes (like jackson's cancer scare) went on for way too long. and the storylines they kept up for several episodes were mostly half-assed. the vivian & beau thing was surface level at most (and rushed af), the ace thing was soooo buried and shoved aside for stupider plotlines (they did o so dirty istfg), same with their approach to adding to the discourse on disability/accessibility, the exploration of jean's sister dealing with her abuse was just almost non-existent, eric's storyline reconciling his sexual and religious identities relied an cheap gimmicks, maeve finding her voice as a writer, jean's postnatal depression (how half-assed that was truly hurt my psych major brain), etc..... and then they dragged these storylines out without giving them any *substance*. like. i SKIPPED two episodes and missed NOTHING (i even did go back to jump through it just now to verify and, yup, did not miss a piece of information i did not gain or infer from the episodes i watched). you know a story is aimlessly wandering around when people can skip 2h of content and not even miss a shrivel of character development. i'd claim almost all storylines and arcs were handled badly. the only one that was well-structured and well-executed (from a storytelling standpoint) was the groff family arc (mind you, not the individual arcs but their arc as a family). AND I DON'T EVEN AGREE WITH THAT STORYLINE FROM AN IDEOLOGICAL STANDPOINT BUT STILL I LIKED IT THE MOST BECAUSE WRITING WISE IT WAS AT LEAST COMPETENTLY HANDLED!!!! like, that's so unfortunate. for me. and don't even get me started on the tonal dissonance WHITIN scenes and BETWEEN scenes. it was so so jarring at times and made the humour NOT land AT ALL (especially the physical humour because holyyy shit what was that). idk if that's editing's fault or if the writers made these decisions or if the producers and executives are to blame, but the inconsistency of mood and tone just really made me feel disconnected from the emotional moment. felt absolutely nothing about what was happening to these characters.

on a more personal level, i took issues with the way they wrote some characters and the content of some arcs. they really reduced maeve's character to nothing (like. i am sorry but her dialogue is so flat and boring, the most meaningful thing she said all season was probably at her mom's funeral.) otis literally learned jackshit. he's still kind of a self-absorbed dick. o was so underutilised and disrespected (they didn't even try to make the ace thing an important plotline). aimee was turned into a grotesque parody of herself. eric's story focusing on religion was HELL to me personally. like, i grew up catholic (which is different to the christianity eric practices but still...), and ngl the way they handled his 'religious' awakening just sent me up the wall. as a queer person who was very involved in church life from a young age and had to reconcile her faith with her queer identity, i felt like his story made a mockery of that struggle and that inner conflict. the visions were ridiculous. it felt like the writers were making fun of the struggle queer people face when (1) wanting to meaningfully engage with faith and religion *OR* (2) wanting to distance themselves from organised religion. additionally it felt like they were making fun of religion & religious faith as a whole, depicting it as this almost psychotic thing to believe in god. and they completely decoupled eric's personal journey to faith from what religion primarily is about for many, many people: community and connection. like, sure, they briefly brushed it i theory, but neglected to real get into the emotional reality and complexity of it. they very much glossed over the fact that religious communities are a source for moral/ethical and social control and even when you disagree with some aspects of the doctrine you will still be affected by it if you grew up in those circles. and your personal reckoning with religion will probably be more tied to THAT (the fear of losing love/support/part of your social circle, ostracisation (because even when you're okay with who you are right from the start it's something that doesn't feel good even when you prepare for it....), feeling disconnected from your former self, struggling to build your own belief system that you feel lie it truly belongs to you etc.). his entire journey was lacking any nuance and complexity in my opinion. and maybe that's because i personally had a different experience reconciling my faith with my sexual identity. i wasn't a self-hating queer either, but breaking away from religion still was a change in my life that impacted me very real and convoluted ways!!! (also like let's be real him becoming a pastor is gonna solve what exactly??? go through the homophobic system to change the homophobic system??? HUH with what power??? you're better of starting a new church fr.) idk. another thing that bugged me was the lack of chemistry in intimate scenes. like. jo and i watched these scenes and. nothing. the lack of chemistry really made me so uncomfortable. it almost made me question if i really do like sex lol. ALSO WHYYYY did they force the aimee and isaac relationship for no reason???? that really didn't have to have to happen. not that i hate it, it's whatever, but i was just so BORING to me. same with the otis and maeve thing. THEY WERE SO BORING. their drama this season was so repetitive and reminiscent of earlier conflicts between them it made me want to rip my hair out. i think i stopped caring about them as a couple after season 2. they don't fit and they don't work yet still the writers were trying to make them a thing for no reason. i could go on but this is already longer than i wanted it to be (yikes). i just want you to know that this season did so many things so badly i ended up not caring about ANYTHING that happened or ANY of the characters (except ruby). they could have all just disappeared and i wouldn't have cared one bit because they were all giving NOTHING. so basically, the season felt like this meme to me, but with a heavy, all-permeating, very petty & derogatory undertone:

okay so now for the things i did watch and enjoy recently (i assume you mean movies/tv shows because i my monthly wrap ups cover my reading). there are quite a few things, actually! ofc i watched barbie which was fun, and oppenheimer which was Very Good. oh, and i watched and liked set it up, and my brother sat me down and made me watch the two spider verse movies with him which i enjoyed a lot as well! my other brother made me watch the new puss in boots (liked that one, too). i also watched the first couple of episodes of the bear and i am very intrigued (gonna continue for sure)!! also finished glow a couple of month ago which was quite good but sadly prematurely cancelled. other than that i have been mostly rewatching stuff tbh (recently e.g. fleabag, schitt's creek, atla, succession, and the occasional movies like p&p 2005, emma 2020. also been in the mood for a rewatch of god's own country & the ghibli movies.). other than that, the movies/tv shows i reblog stuff from are generally things i enjoyed in the past (or at least partly enjoyed). idk there's a lot on my 'to watch list' but i am only making my way through it super slowly jhghjgjhjgjh
