#i love fanon jon

I love the fanon-canon of jon (the archivist) sims. But i see way too few people talking about the sheer funny absurdity it would be if every character of tma just looked like their voice actors. Like, i love the idea of jon being 5'something scrawny lille rat man. But i love the headcanon that he just looks like jonny, but in a sweater vest and glasses, as well. And it's something that has been stuck in my head for a while, and i've seen very few talk about it, so i just wanted to bring it to the table. I've giggled way too much over the idea. And want more people to entertain the image.

Ok sorry I’m long overdue for a follow up of these tags I left on your post lol. Here goes: In my brain, the role of a cop is a very masculine one. Like obviously there are female cops but whenever they appear in media ( at the ones I’ve seen) they always are very masculine. So with Hayward whole thing about performing the role of a standard cop I think he was also performing masculinity in a very standard way. His whole arc in season 2 has also been about learning who he is outside of that performance so he I think he can also start to experiment with gender and get silly with it. I think that’d be good for him. maybe this only makes sense to me but thank you for the space to expand upon me ideas.

No tags on this one but I internally cringe when people refer to Booster being called Michael as “deadnaming” him when the whole purpose of being called Booster is due his deep seated shame about being a nobody and being poor. It’s like the core principle of his character.

Why would Trixie or Ted calling him Michael be a bad thing when they’re the two characters who are have a deep connection to him? The purpose of stating his name is to show that it’s not the persona that’s loved but rather the actual person. And he doesn’t correct them it’s because he knows definitively that they do love and respect him and his worth is not derived from fame or money.

I just want to say I really really hate the fanon version of Martin that I saw a lot of before I started the show and I still see now. Stop making him exclusively your little soft boy who needs to be protected. He is soft, he is also a massive bitch who lit up like a Christmas tree upon finding out Jon wanted to kill Elias. they saw the way we write precanon and gave it to us on a knowingly poisoned silver platter. sam is fanon martin, alice is fanon tim, gwen is fanon jon, celia is fanon sasha. but all their cute office shenanigans are soured now by Oh God Oh Fuck. its *genius*. even though we dont know the characters too well they are familiar. they are familiar and we love them already because they are familiar. their pain is familiar too and we know its coming.

. and colin is there to be our Reminder that this isnt a cute sitcom anime. colin is living in the horror genre . he is our Reminder so we don’t get too comfortable.

archives was so good at slow burn upping the stakes. protocol is Not Doing that for obvious reasons but the fear it illicits is the same creeping dread feeling.

oh my god where to begin lol... the "Tim is just a dumb flirt" characterizations, the polarization of Gertrude as either a tough mother/granny figure or Mean Old Bitch instead of a flawed, ruthless but incredibly compelling woman, in general the girlbossification of every female character at the expense of their characterization (Sasha Georgie Melanie Annabelle et al. i am so sorry oh my god...), Jon being a wet blanket who just does whatever Martin tells him to (did we forget he sent Martin to investigate Jane Prentiss in S1 and openly admitted on tape that he didn't care if Martin got eaten by worms), Martin cutesy cinammon roll cottagecore woobie characterizations (Martin is a BITCH and i like him so much better that way), "everyone is mean to Jon for no good reason", Gerry being an MCR fan (i love MCR but he's GOTH he canonically listens to heavy metal PLEASE listen to another band), and - and this is my most petty personal complaint - but the way avatars were flattened into aesthetics and consigned to the hell that is the perfect victim/irredeemable abuser dichotomy, instead of acknowledging that they represent the REPEATEDLY STATED IN-TEXT THEME of how our choices have consequences and our refusal to acknowledge our complicity in hurting others or willingness to excuse that suffering under certain conditions can lead us down darker paths.

I know sexism in fandom is a thing, but I mostly encounter a lot of very vocal love and positivity for female tma characters (not to say that's the case in all forums ofc). Which is good, obviously.

Basira, Georgie and Melanie are important characters, but they all come along later and honestly throughout a lot of Canon kinda feel like an anti-jon wall. If you happen to be a fan who doesn't vibe with that sentiment, its less appealing to engage with a big portion of the female characters. It's not wrong or right to find yourself empathising more with Georgie or Martin etc etc, none of thecharacters are all good or bad so it's personal how a listener is gonna feel. But to me it sort of unfortunately feels like, since the (majority of significant) women are kind of aligned in one group, youre more likely to either into all of them or none of them. I hope that makes sense? Like I'm very much not coming after anyone.

Also some other thoughts on sexism: sasha has less time, less backstory, and is less developed than say Tim. So she has less content. Someone saying "if you do an ao3 search for fics that include sasha but not Tim, there isn't many, so sexism!" doesnt make much sense to me. The workplace is the only context we have for sasha, and Tim is her coworker and friend. A fanfic featuring sasha but NOT Tim (or any other magnus staff!) would have to create a lot of backstory wholecloth, and not everyone wants to do that. I love her in fanon, but we gotta acknowledge it really mostly is fanon.

As for Helen vs Michael. Michael's backstory is more developed, he was played and manipulated, its pretty damn tragic. Helen is dope! But if you want that flavour of angst and tragedy, Michael has more to work with.

I think it comes down to the type of fan you are and what you prefer to engage with! I suspect jonny has tried to make this less of a factor in tmagp and is focusing on giving more background to female characters from the start. Not trying to insinuate anything shitty abt him either.
