Me waiting for a new fanfic on #EdwardNashtonxreader to drop, even though it’s a human being with social life that writes them and not a robot that knows everything I like on a fanfiction

Hi! I want to ask you do you use an ereader to read fanfics? I like using my Kindle to read fics because it is a) more comfortable and b) I can annotate the fic
Hi Nonny!
I DO! I download all my fics as ePubs to my Books app and save them on iCloud so I can access them anywhere. I haven't read paper books in a long time; nothing against them, it's just easier for me to have my books on my phone so I can read them on my commute to work, OR, when I'm at home, I can read my books in bed without leaving a light on. It's totally about accessibility for me, and it's just what I prefer!
Plus, I just love that I can categorize them into Fandoms, AND highlight my fave passages in stories :) eBooks are one of my fave things ever. If it's a REALLY short story, I DO read them on AO3, and then save them into my Fave Fics folders after bookmarking them. But for the most part, yes, they're all eBooks :)
So, yes, I use my phone or iPad as my e-reader. It's just made it much easier for me to be able to read on my commute and in bed. :)

When your work has an icebreaker for what book you’ve read recently and you have been reading so much, but all you’ve read for the past 4 months is fanfics

Or what happens is you get so focused on the fanfics that the moment you get back to reality depression crashes back on you and drags you from a high you didn't expect to have to a low that is unbearable now
sometimes what you need to get out of a deep depression is to start shipping a fictional couple that encourages you to read fanfiction until 3 am.

Coming out because not only i want to write a fanfic about the fanfic but i also do sims about fanfics i read okay i am sorry but they are just too cool to let go okay
have you ever read a fanfic so good that you wanted to write a fanfic about that fanfic, but was too shy / too intimidated to ask for the author’s permission and too afraid that your writing wouldn’t be half as good as theirs and that it would be an insult to their work that was basically a literal masterpiece, so you just sat there fantasizing about their work and how beautiful it was and how you wished you could just eat it and how you wished canon could write your blorbos half as good as this writer did and how you just wanted to cry because you just loved that fic so much????

this is just my opinion but i think any good media needs obsession behind it. it needs passion, the kind of passion that's no longer "gentle scented candle" and is now "oh shit the house caught on fire". it needs a creator that's biting the floorboards and gnawing the story off their skin. creators are supposed to be wild animals. they are supposed to want to tell a story with the ferocity of eating a good stone fruit while standing over the sink. the same protective, strange instinct as being 7 and making mud potions in pink teacups: you gotta get weird with it.
good media needs unhinged, googling-at-midnight kind of energy. it needs "what kind of seams are invented on this planet" energy and "im just gonna trust the audience to roll with me about this" energy. it needs one person (at least) screaming into the void with so much drive and energy that it forces the story to be real.
sometimes people are baffled when fanfic has some stunning jaw-dropping tattoo-it-on-you lines. and i'm like - well, i don't go here, but that makes sense to me. of fucking course people who have this amount of passion are going to create something good. they moved from a place of genuine love and enjoyment.
so yeah, duh! saturday cartoons have banger lines. random street art is sometimes the most precious heart-wrenching shit you've ever seen. someone singing on tiktok ends up creating your next favorite song. youtubers are giving us 5 hours of carefully researched content. all of this is the impossible equation to latestage capitalism. like, you can't force something to be good. AI cannot make it good. no amount of focus-group testing or market research. what makes a story worth listening to is that someone cares so much about telling it - through dance, art, music, whatever it takes - that they are just a little unhinged about it.
one time my friend told me he stayed up all night researching how many ways there are to peel an orange. he wrote me a poem that made me cry on public transportation. the love came through it like pith, you know? the words all came apart in my hands. it tasted like breakfast.
