everybody dies is maybe the best tv ending ever the idea that there are people who watched it that say “oh yeah the house finale is like? fine? i guess?? it doesn’t really tie everything up though” hello?????? house is presented with every element of his life that the show has ever deemed important to him and asks “which of these, as an ending, could actually make him happy?” first is drugs. he tries heroin, doesn’t work. it’s facile. shallow. not the answer. his addiction wasn’t a choice and has only ever been destructive. it doesn’t define him. it isn’t at all what he’s living for. it can’t be his ending. second is medicine. a puzzle always gives him a buzz. but not forever. it’s superficial. inconsequential. pointless. he needs it to stave off misery, but it doesn’t fulfil him. third is love. “i know you believe in love.” but he’s fucked up every romantic relationship he’s ever had. it’s idiotic to think he could ever sustain one. it’s a fantasy. can’t be that either. fourth is suicide. an escape from all his pain and suffering. a simple resignation. but it’s empty and he’s scared of it. he doesn’t want to die, but he hasn’t found anything to live for, either. he thinks, there’s nothing, then. so he lies there, in the flames. he can’t find a solution and so resigns himself to none. he’ll let the fire choose to take him. until he realises that that’s cowardly. he has to choose his own ending. there has to be meaning to it. so maybe he’ll choose to just continue with his life, as it was, in misery. or maybe he can change. maybe if he chooses to live he can find some meaning, somewhere. maybe. so he decides to get up and leave the burning building, distantly hoping happiness is out there for him somewhere. then he sees wilson. number five. the answer is wilson. and it always has been. he’s the only thing house has been able to consistently love. the only thing that truly fulfils him. the only thing that completely defines who, at his heart, house is. and so he chooses to destroy everything else - every other reason he spent his life thinking he was living for - for wilson. it was all just transport, taking him here. to this happiness. to his happiness. to his ending. to wilson.
#this got real pretentious#but it’s 1am and i feel like i’m going to die#we basically are watching house go through the thought process of the writers#i’m obsessed with it#how did 2004-2012 fox medical drama end with the most insane gay love story ending on television#crazy crazy world#house md#hilson#suicide mention#+

tbh i seem to love the scene where cesare kills juan more than i should and not just because the fratricide trope is insanely compelling to me, but also because of the profound tragedy laced within the scene itself. juan serenely embraces cesare almost as if he's aware that he is moving toward death…like he seems to accept his fate rather than fight against it? he describes to him a "world of wonders" (which is the ep's title) where he and his brother are close, their parents are proud of him, and the family is united like never before, (i mean the infighting especially lucrezia's resentment toward him has already devastated him as seen in 2.03 when he made a goodbye speech about their harmony being what made them triumph) while his comforting hallucination is induced by opium to ease his emotional/physical pain, there's also poetry in how cesare dumps him in the tiber...because even though he cold bloodedly murdered him, he also granted him the peace that a restless and tormented soul perhaps never knew or experienced and allowed him to enter the very dark void he envisioned and disappear into obscurity. and all of this happens at a moment when the two were almost reconciled.
#peak television one might say#i think the most underrated part is that juan and cesare aren't just abel and cain in this scene but also jesus and judas#as much as it makes my head spin (yk theee juan being compared to jesus lmao) he's the forgiving figure here who pretty much held no grudge#while cesare is judas the two faced figure determined for betrayal to secure juan's position#also the symbolism of juan's lifeless body is lifted over the rail literally resembles a christ-like figure it's %100 intentional#and how the scene is framed with moonlight reflecting on juan while cesare remains in the shadows#tragic brothers we love youuu#juan borgia#cesare borgia#the borgias#tv shows#period drama#juan and cesare#tb text post

... I was a theatre major in college, have done some community theatre, and the back of my head has made it onto a cable television drama. :-)
I wish there was an option between "It's okay" and "I love the spotlight." I went with "I love the spotlight" because "It's okay" didn't quite feel sufficient. I wouldn't say I fully love the spotlight because honestly, I don't really notice either the spotlight or the audience when I'm in the moment and in the character.

Yes THANK YOU!!! Lestat is polar opposite of manipulative. He's too in the moment impulsive to manipulate anything. Okay, fine, he can be a tiny bit manipulative but it's such basic shit. Like orchestrating his first meeting with Louis and their first time. But he basically blows his manipulative wad on that. Next time he tries to manipulate Louis, he ends up in an unwanted open relationship with Louis still refusing to feed on humans. 😂🤣 Armand and Louis are totally projecting on someone who is essentially an evil himbo.
(x)
I don't know if I'd say he's the polar opposite of manipulative, haha, I think he can definitely try to manuever situations in his favour - like cutting off Antoinette's finger to give to Claudia under the guise that he's killed her when he's actually turned her / is about to turn her - but he's definitely too impulsive, volatile and bad at hiding his emotions to really manipulate characters or situations in the way almost every other character in the show is capable of (Armand, Louis and Daniel especially).
Lestat's power is felt in brute force, and that tends to be how he wields it more so than through strategising and manipulation. Like, they're all playing 4D chess with strategies to checkmate each other, and Lestat's just going to knock the board over when he starts to lose, haha.
#he didn't want to play anyway!!!!#evil himbo did make me laugh out loud so thank you for that#i do kind of love that claudia seems to be the only character who clued into lestat kind of being dumb#and i love that sam in his interview with autumn also said lestat's like#not a particularly smart character lol#i love that we're in an era of television where people get to be dumb again#we had too many years where every protagonist had to be the smartest most competent man in every room and snooze tbh#succession truly changed the landscape for having your protagonists in prestige drama be bad at everything again#and now audiences get to realise that nobody is in love with lestat for his intelligence they're in love with him because he's insane <3#as they should be!#lestat asks#iwtv asks

JOTTING DOWN THOUGHTS #3
Ep19/20
I love being wrong!
You got it together, King! Mu Sheng I shouldn't have doubted you babes 🥹🥹🥹😭. A (major) lapse of judgement can't keep you down!
My poor Yao. I knew she was gonna do some suicide mission stuff and try to cut off everyone so it would hurt less. Oh my poor girl.
Fuyi telling her about his master took me by surprise. I didn't think he'd bite the bullet like this, but I'm glad we aren't drawing it out at the same time. That's one of the facets of betrayal that won't happen now, and I love it. Good for him.
Shout out to Mu Sheng and Fuyi for drinking together. I want them to be friends so bad. The look Ziqi gave Miaomiao when she found him at the tavern and he woke up was so unbearably fond and lovestruck I rewound it 3 times!
I feel so sad. Everything sucks. They're all parting ways and poor Cuicui is being left on his lonesome and that stupid wooden bracelet is pissing me off.
Plus Things are just getting worse for this marriage. Nothing is stopping this train from running off the track and I hate it bc poor Ruoshi is gonna be heart broken
I really like Fuyi in this episode and I lovw how he's handling this Princess situation. She may be delusional but she still a young woman in love and I love how he's treating her with respect and care.
Hearing Fuyi say that Yao is the love of his life literally made me squeal, I wanted to explode. I swear I wasn't talking shit, I do enjoy Fuyi and Yao's relationship they weren't given much to do but now they're given everything g to do and I can't control myself. I love them.
I loved hearing his story of how he fell in love with her. It's about vulnerability ppl! She is an absolute badass but she is still also a young woman with so much on her plate, that kind of strength of character so so amazing and I don't blame Fuyi one bit for loving her. She's great
I was right about Ruoshi this shit hurts. Like he's so unserious and cries like a baby, which is hilarious, but oh I feel so bad for him poor thing.
When that bracelet came off I was like "the first thing she's gonna say is ziqi lol" AND THEN SHE DID IT, I SCREAMED
Seeing Miaomiao run in that wedding dress was so pretty omg 😲. What a moment. And that leading to her seeing the grand gesture that Ziqi made for her days ago literally made me gasp like hand to mouth gasp. I wanted to cry 😢😢😢
This is genuinely the best episode of a drama ever. Dynamic, Groundbreaking, Never Before Seen, Brought actual tears to my eyes.
Seeing the band comeback together after Yao basically says "Aye Yo I'm about to doe but peace to all my homies" made me want to cry again
They have some ACTORS in the building, okay? Give the casting director and award bc Everyone brought their A-Game and acted fabulously against each other
PS Oh snap i forgot in all my happiness that apparently Ziqi was an attempted murderer as a child. That's crazy 🤪
PPS Don't think I didn't notice how shit started hitting the fan when Miaomiao wasn't there to regulate the situation. She wasn't there to help Yao talk through her problems or give advice, therefore potentially helping her with Fuyi and she wasn't there to accept Mu Shengs confession.
My girl is the top tier glue!
#this is top tier television#i love romance dramas so much bc when they hit they HIT#i dont normally like fantasy cdramas but this#this is beautiful#love game in eastern fantasy#i really want to read the book now#superb acting#ground breaking#emotive#extravagant#the good shit if you will

Play for Today: Evelyn (BBC, 1971)
"Do you ever get the feeling you're cracking up?"
"Do you?"
"Well, I - I was asking you."
"It's your birthday."
"Oh, I don't have birthdays anymore, I stopped having birthdays a long time ago."
"You're forty."
"That was a very cruel thing to say."
#play for today#evelyn#single play#bbc#1972#rhys adrian#piers haggard#edward woodward#angela scoular#phyllida law#edward de souza#charles bolton#graeme macdonald#Adrian originally wrote Evelyn as a radio play‚ first broadcast on BBC radio 4 in 1969; it was a success‚ winning prizes and#considerable critical acclaim. it is also‚ tho‚ very much a radio play: consisting almost entirely of bedroom conversations between just#two characters‚ as well as phone calls. a challenging thing to adapt for television‚ and this PfT version does seem to have come in for#some criticism bc of its reliance on mannered‚ stylized dialogue (as well as fairly frequent nudity‚ a non issue on radio of course but#fairly unusual on british tv in 1971). it is mannered‚ it is very much not 'natural' in performance and feels very stagey in that specific#mid century way‚ but i dont think it's an unsuccessful bit of tv. Eddy boy is an anonymous business type obsessed with his age and gripped#by midlife crisis; he's having an affair with the younger‚ seemingly more free spirited Scoular‚ herself married. their artificial bliss#(much repetition of 'i do love you' and how 'wonderful' the sex is) is undermined by the fact that she still loves her husband‚ and also#loves several other young men she has also taken as lovers. Woodward's quiet gnawing paranoia and haunted feelings of inadequacy are#beautifully played‚ as is the gradual revelation of Scoular's rather shallow nature (she repeats the same lines and declarations of love#verbatim to other men on the phone)‚ as is Woodward's difficulty in reconciling his hypocrisy; he invents a fictional girlfriend‚ Evelyn‚#to try and make Scoular jealous and presumably more possessive of him. it's a rather bleak little thing‚ although frequently quite witty#and the performances are all quite excellent. it also feels very 1970s in its foregrounding of Woodward's insecurity over‚ for example‚ the#feelings of (or effect on) his wife (a sharply written P Law who makes just two brief appearances at the very beginning and end)#it won't be to many modern viewers tastes i suppose‚ but this does have.. something. and at the very least Eddy gets to do his mildly#neurotic thing without it having the underlying sense of brittle violence (just mildly pathetic middle aged angst)#PfT would move away from this style of drama as the series developed‚ favouring social realism over theatrical artifice

Let slaves in mind be servile to their fears;
Our heart is high instarred in brighter spheres.
Fernando, IV.ii of Love's Sacrifice (1633) by John Ford
#i almost didn't read this play#john ford#poetry#caroline drama#english literature#there are 5 ford plays in this collection i borrowed from the library#and it's a loan from another library in the state which means it can't be renewed#i had read tis pity in a book i donated to savers and then decided i wanted to read perkin warbeck by ford#and maybe some others since tis pity was just so good#the broken heart was intriguing from a quote by charles lamb in the intro#and the lover's melancholy interested me since it was a tragicomedy#so those three plays (broken heart/warbeck/melancholy) i knew i had to read#and i had half a mind like yeah if i don't have much time before the due date i might return it wo reading sacrifice#(and i also read a few other things in between ford plays to just get a breather)#love's sacrifice might be his second best after tis pity#the broken heart was really good too. warbeck was a little strange but not bad. melancholy was... i had notes#but i still really enjoyed all 3#lover's melancholy and perkin warbeck suffer in comparison with the expectations i had from shakespeare's tragicomedies and history plays#they're still very worthwhile but ford is at his best in the tragic form#i really like how he writes female characters. he also has a flair for macabre set pieces and spectacle#i would love to direct any of these plays someday#i think all the time about how id direct like a bbc television shakespeare series but for other lesserknown playwrights#i would give so much to be able to bring ford's work to a general audience today#he has so much to say and is so entertaining

the best reminder that LOST is a masterpiece is to watch any other drama series
#i dunk on lost and it's problems#with love AND frustration#and it can easy to forget how amazing it is if you compare it to itself#watch literally any other multi season drama with an ensemble and its like wow#yeah lost is one of Best Things In Television#and like i'm not even insulting every other drama. obviously there are ones that are good. what i mean is lost is so fucking good#also ya gotta love that 2004+ era of tv where a bunch of these shows were trying their best to have that lost flavour#suddenly a billion of dramas with 20 main characters with trauma and connections happened. twists! twists everywhere!#and suddenly flashback narratives became like 60% more popular#good stuff#i can't even think of an example because its just what television in general has become#that its easy to forget that serialized storytelling weren't always the norm#episodic was the typical way to tell stories in the 90s#thats part of why star trek deep space nine was so unpopular back then but has gotten new life in the modern world#twas a head of its time really
