What would the Dairy Islands be without their Dairy Sea?
So I am beyond excited to share with you the animal helping to keep it clean and pure:
You know em, you love em: the Milky Manta Ray!
Honestly, I am beyond happy with them! There was no question, i had to draw the animal a major character was referencing.
It was a big struggle until my twin suggested using the drink Grant made in Dirty Laundry once, the Queen's Punch, for inspiration and that opened my third eye!
They swim in their favoured territory, where another body of "water" meets the Dairy Sea and filter the milk, feeding on those nutrients in the process. This gives each Manta Ray a distinct colouration. Once the liquid has passed through their bodies enough to have returned to pure milk it is then released through the ends of their wings, fins and tail.

I'm going to the zoo in about a week!! Literally been saving up a lot of money so I can buy a bunch of plushies at the gift shop
#idek what I plan to get#most likely a red panda if they have a plush for em (the zoo I'm going to has a whole family of them on exhibit)#I'll get a hyena of African wild dog if they have it for my datemate (hos favorite animals)#maybe I'll get a lemur that looks like Zoboomafoo?#or a frog#maybe a black leopard plus#eeee idk I have to wait and see whay they have#Im sooo excited#I swear Im not going just for the gift shop tho lol#I just LOVE animals. they're a special interest of mine#this is the first Im going where I get to decide where to go and what to look at for how long#Imma be staring at these creatures for hours#nobody to rush me thru looking at the animals#I will be taking pics but Im gonna only snap a few. I just wanted to design an alien species but then three hours of anatomy studies of apes showed up like hello :) hi :) oog :)
#I've had these creatures rolling around since 2017 but I've never made a whole study :)#I like. Made a ton of theoretical anatomy pieces awhile back but nothing based on real animals and nothing on like. Key elements of#Their biology#Like how can they function being both bipedal and quadrupedal without it looking awkward. How do they shoot fire out of their hands#Why did I give them elf ears despite the fact that they live in an environment with a temperature compatible to Antarctica :)#Yeah so I'm workshopping :) I love doing this stuff :)#Anyways APES right. I was thinking I needed a base for the species that was human enough but slightly uncanny yunno slightly off#And apes fit the bill remarkably well. So I spend 3 hours on gorillas and monkey. Lotta monkey#I think I made progress :) drew some good animal :)#Like is any of this anatomically viable maybe maybe not but I spent three hours on those monkeys so it's FINE I'm fine it's good :)#Anyone ever taken a good look at the feet of a gorilla. Like that's hand. They're so MOBILE and the SHAPE??? Like it's a HAND. They evolved#HAND FEET. They can grab things with those. The big toe is a thumb.
