redacted demon horn hcs i came up with so i dont have to change my demon designs 💕
within every demon race there are horn variations so they dont all end up having same horn syndrome (like same face syndrome in art but with horns 👍)
empathy — most common variation are the ram horns, most rare are the inverse ram horns. empathy daemon's horns will always be small and will always be in the capridae family
sadism — most common variation are the gazelle horns, least common are the curved gazelle horns. sadism demon's horn will always be large and tall
shock — most common variation are the gemsbok horns, least common variation are the four-horned antelope horns. shock demon's horns will always be pointed straight up, as if in "shock"
inchoate — inchoates have multiple horn variations, so it is hard to pinpoint the rarity of each variant. the most common come down to the indian bison horns, bharal horns, and a set of "classic" demon horns with two smaller horns protruding from the base
fear — most common variation are the greater kudu horns, most rare the the blackbuck horns. sizes always vary, and horns will always be swirled in some way, with the exception of the unicorn horn varient
misery — most common variation are the tibetan argali horns, most rare are the bighorn sheep horns. misery demons' horns will always fall in the capridae family
elation — most common variation are the ibex horns, most rare are the red hartebeest horns. sizes can vary, but usually are medium
serenity — most common variation are horns that belong to an animal that are most likely related to bharals, most rare are the fallow antlers. serenity daemons, interestingly, have horn variations that belong to two separate families: caprinae and cervidae. while the cervidae antlers have more variation, the mysterious bharal-like horn variant is still the most common. serenity daemons are also the only daemon race outside of empathy daemons to have digigrade legs
strife — most common variant are the eland horns, most rare are the addax horns (which sometimes results in a strife demon being mistaken for a sadism or fear demon). a more uncommon yet well-known variation is the triple horn set
desire — similarly to inchoate demons, desire demons have a multitude of horn variations, the most common being the markhor horns and "classic" demon horns paired with a small set of ram horns
#did i meticulously search up what animal each horn belonged to?#yes. yes i did.#and i found all of them except for serenity :(#if anyone knows what animal serenity belongs to please lmk#redacted asmr#redactedverse#redacted audio#redacted demons#redacted headcanons#vinn yapping#vinn says fandom things#vinn says really dumb stuff#vinn headcanons things

Panthera leo melanochaita better known as the east African lion, the Southern lion, the Southern African lion, or the East-Southern African lion,, is a subspecies of lion native to eastern and southern Africa. Here they prefer to inhabit grasslands and savannas, but are also known to inhabit open woodland, scrublands, and montane forests. African lions are the most social of all wild felines, living in groups of related individuals and their offspring called prides which number 3 to 30 females and 1 to 4 males. East African lions typically prey upon ungulates such as wildebeest, cape buffalo, eland, gemsbok, nyala, roan and sable antelope, warthogs, bush pigs, zebra, tsessebe, waterbuck, kudu, hartebeest, kob, and thomson’s gazelle, however they are also known to hunt other prey from as small as common mice to as large as young or infirm African bush elephants. Lions are themselves occasionally killed by other predators such as wild dogs, hyenas, leopards, other lions, and crocodiles. Female east African lions average around 7.5 to 8.9ft (2.3 to 2.7m) in length, and 183 to 370lbs (83 to 168kgs) in weight while males average around 8.1 to 9.4ft (2.47 to 2.84m) in length and 321 to 496lbs (145 to 225kgs) in weight, however lions as big as 11ft (3.35m) and 825lbs (375kgs) have been known to exist. This marks the lion as the second largest extant cat after the tiger. The lion is a muscular, broad-chested cat with a short, rounded head, a reduced neck, and round ears. The fur varies in color from light buff to silvery grey, yellowish red, and dark brown, additionally albino and leucistic individuals are not unheard of. Mature males typically sport long flowing manes, but may occasionally lack them. Additionally females may occasionally grown manes as well. Breeding may occur year round, with each mature female having there own estrous cycle. When in heat she will breed with one or more partners. After a 110 day pregnancy a mother lion will give birth to 1 to 4 cubs in a secluded den away from the rest of the pride. She will not rejoin the pride until her young are around 6 to 8 weeks of age. East African Lions reach maturity around 2 to 4 years of age, at which point the males are typically forcibly evicted from the pride and females may choose to set of in search of another to join. Under ideal conditions an east African lion may live up to 18 years.

The Persistence of Memory
Minti and a Moogle travel to Coerthas, in search of a missing friend. Sprout safe.
Written and inspired by the Pictomancer quests from FFXIV. Slight spoilers up to level 83 Picto, "Perspectives in Pursuit."
Some dialogue from Garlond Tools used and/or adapted to fit the piece.
Thank you for your understanding.
---
Minti Chocolate had traveled this road before, in a time not too long ago.
On that day, the trip was a muddy, rainy mess in the North Shroud, ending with a equally mushy and cold snow in the Highlands at the First Dicasterial Observatorium. Riptide, the viera's trusty chocobo, had had a field day hopping from mud pool to mud pool, making sure that his rider and their armor were just as dirty as he was. Why had she gone up there? To make amends with Ser Bale, and to continue the dragoon training she'd had so many years ago. And, she supposed, it was to show the Frost Queen, one of her Choir, that she was a woman of her word. That despite the many wrongs she'd done over her long lifetime, she was a good person. She wanted to make amends.
As Minti walked through the Observatorium on bamboo zori, accompanied by a moogle she'd met only a few days ago, she wondered if there were still things she needed to ask forgiveness for. Maybe there were, for the snow and cold clung to her dōgi and hakama, eagerly waiting to feast on the exposed skin underneath.
Their name was Kupopo. The moogle, not Minti, she knew her chosen name well enough. Kupopo was looking for Beruru, a young lalafell and pictomancer who'd gone missing recently. "Well, she's missing in the sense that I don't know where she is," Kupopo had explained while the two were in Gridania, "but I don't fear for her safety." For a time, the two had traveled with an older scholar, Janquetilaque, someone who was like a grandfather to Beruru. Much like me and Mamam, Minti thought at the time.
While Minti understood that the lalafell was a good friend, and that the two had separated after "a terrible argument," it felt like there were important things being kept from her. The viera was well versed in keeping secrets, after all. Still, no point in trying to pry what didn't wish to be pried. Maybe after the tour of the realm, she'd get to the truth of things. For now, there was the role of a virtuous pictomancer to play.
---
Much as Minti may have wished to get back to the comforting climes of the Lavender Beds, or maybe under a shady tree in the Goblet, Kupopo seemed to want her to stay. First with the quest for the hartebeest's horn, and now with cups of piping hot chocolate in one of Camp Dragonhead's common quarters. Did he think her as another lonely adventurer, maybe? Was this the first time he was well and truly alone?
"It's important to us, as pictomancers, to capture the essence of the places we go to," Kupopo was saying, their tiny paws barely able to wrap around the brim of the mug they were drinking from. "We can't just stay in one place, see. We need to be inspired!" They loudly slurped up cocoa. "Mmm. Excellent recipe, this. Someone ought to write it down."
Minti, meanwhile, was having a hard time drinking hers. "Someone ought," she echoed wistfully. It wasn't the cold keeping her from enjoying the drink; no, there were a great deal of things at work in her mind.
Kupopo continued. "So, you've been to Ishgard before, right?"
"Aye." Minti nodded slightly, trudging through the blinding snow of her mindscape.
"Surely you must have something that'd inspire you. Perhaps some strong emotions, or, or, sensations." Kupopo gestured widely with his mug, splashing coca on the wooden table between them. "Pray forgive! ...How about the first time you came to Ishgard. Can you remember that?"
The viera leaned back in her chair and closed her eyes. Imaging things had never come easy for her; one could say "Imagine an apple" and instantly see a bright, red, juicy apple sitting on a table in their mind. For her, that same apple was a flicker, a flash of red and juice and table and then, nothing. Maybe that's why she liked writing much more than drawing, when she was younger. For a young girl like her, it was easier to write out what she was experiencing in her mind, than it was to picture it.
"The warmth I found amidst the bitter cold, from a woman who was incredibly dear to me, when I needed help the most." Minti didn't feel comfortable enough sharing everything with Kupopo, not yet. Maybe, further along the journey to find their lost friend, she'd say everything. She'd pour her heart out to them, talk about Lady Sabbatine, the House, Haurchefaunt, everything...everything that made her, her. Important time spent, time that lit the fires in heart heart and made her not run anymore. Time that turned her from a girl not ready to face the world into a woman grown. An adventurer. Minti Chocolate, not Marget Djt-Gilda, daughter of Skeld and Anja.
Not now. Soon but not now.
Kupopo sipped their chocolate in silence. For a moment, the only sound to be heard was that of their wings fluttering, loudly keeping the fluffy creature afloat.
"An difficult journey indeed, from what you've shared of your life." They gently put their mug down on the table, and floated over to where Minti was sitting. "But, you were shown kindness, were you not? From the moment you stepped foot within those walls. Someone cared for you."
"You could say that."
Kupopo dabbed away some cocoa that was dripping down Minti's chin. "And, you're driven to show that kindness to others, right? That's important to you?"
"I suppose so."
The moogle nodded, shaking their fur out and splashing cocoa against the stone walls that surrounded them and their pictomancer protege. "...that's good to know. It inspires me, you know? Gives me hope.
But I should get to poking my adorable nose around the camp, see if I can't get some leads on where Beruru might have gone. Take care of yourself, alright?
Keep training. Don't give up just yet. Inspiration might be right around the corner."

Sunday 21st April 2024
The phone next to our bed rang, and I made stabbing attempts to locate the receiver. Good morning Charles said a scratchy voice, it's half past six, breakfast is at seven. I gradually became aware that this was not general information designed to satisfy a mild curiosity but instead to instill a sense of urgency to respond, react and present ourselves in the dining area ready to start a fresh day of exploration. Stumbling into clothes we obeyed without a murmur. Life looked much improved after a strong coffee and Eggs Benedict!
Shamwari Game Reserve has been going for some 32 years. Previously the land had been used for farming cattle and sheep. The only exotic animals would have been wart hogs; aggressive in their own way way. Clearly any native animals had long ago been moved on; successful cattle rearing not mixing well with predatory species. Over the years Shamwari has been reintroducing native animals to this area, and gradually the reserve has grown in size. It is owned by a Dubai conglomerate who are sensitive to the aims of the naturalists wanting to protect and grow threatened groups. One such group is white and the more endangered black rhinos. Even within the safety a game reserve provides, poachers will infiltrate and steal the horns so valuable on the black market. This constant war now employs AI technology to monitor 24/7 each rhino successfully thwarting many perpetrators. Population figures are highly sensitive and never published for added protection. They know overall which species are available in the reserve because they put them there, but numbers and where there are at any one time is where the mystery lies and what occupies the ranger's mind. Today we have seen lion, white rhino, zebra, African buffalo, giraffe, elands, kadu, vervet monkeys, red hartebeest and loads of birds. The male lion had made a kill this morning and will be satisfied now for the next 3 days. We are told he would not turn another opportunity down but equally will be happy to sleep and relax for 18 hours a day until Wednesday. Nice work if you can get it!
After a tapas lunch we were all set to explore some more, this time looking for cheetahs and leopards.
The search started around 14.30 and we soon saw elephant, more white rhino, eland and oryx but no cheetah. We stopped for drinks and nibbles. Other rangers were also on the lookout for cheetah but nothing. Then Raymond our ranger saw cheetah tracks; some going up the hill, and fresher ones coming down. Next there was a radio call to say one had been spotted. We leapt back into the Toyota and headed towards the sighting. There in a clearing were two brother cheetahs lying in the grass, stomachs swollen and the remains of a kill next to them. An unfortunate kudu had been outrun. This was a very fortunate spectacle since we not only saw two cheetahs, but also saw them after feeding. An absolutely perfect end to the safari day and just as the sun was going down. Both animals continued to look nervously around. They are predators but they are also prey to others; lions, leopards.
We were amazed at just how close we could get to these wild animals; just feet away from us.
Our Toyota Landcruiser returned us to base for a braai (South African BBQ).
ps The braai was great. We had pork ribs, chicken, oxtail, couscous, aubergine and bread type things. It was delicious. Loads of SB to was it all down. This place is amazing and the staff are so friendly and helpful.
