Asexuality, just like gender, is a spectrum. It's like other sexualities in that way. Asexuality, like nonbinary, is an umbrella term and there are a lot of labels that fit under it.

For me, I don't use any of the specific labels and just label myself Ace because that's what feels like fits.

For me, what not feeling sexual attraction is like, it is like looking at a very pretty landscape painting. I can admit that the painting is pretty and I like looking at it but that's the extent of it.

That being said, being a sensory seeking, sex positive Ace, I don't mind the act or feeling of sex. I might even seek it out for the sensation, but it isn't a necessity for me like it is for others.

It's an odd place to be in and I don't see much good Ace representation in media and what little there is, isn't the kind I experienced so it took me a long time to realize lol. I know my experience isn't the standard. Asexuals, like everyone else, aren't a monolith, and I think the solution is to have more diverse asexual representation in the future.

i love being ace. i love having allo friends tell me about the people who they are attracted to, as i munch popcorn and slurp my smoothie loudly. i love having ace friends who like to tell me about all the things that are totally better than sex. guitars. databases. linear algebra. literature seminars. creme brule. fresh laundry. i love having allo friends who explain sex as i listen with a strangely scholarly interest. i love having ace friends who have sex, and ace friends who get sick of hearing about sex, and ace friends who will say the raunchiest jokes for the bit. i love asking my allos friends how they divide sexual and romantic attraction, about their experiences with shame around said attractions, about kinks or the lack thereof. i love asking my ace friends about the divide between aesthetic and sensual attraction, and shame around not having sexual attraction, or not having it "correctly." genuinely, being ace allows you to really think about how society enjoys, shames, discusses, praises, and condemns sex. and you know what? its fun. it's fun to learn about sexual attraction, it's fun to learn about the lack therof, it's fun to learn about all the inbetweens.

and of course, its insidiously fun to bully your friend for going crazy over someone who does nothing for you.
