“It’s freezing in here” I said while I was puting my cap in my head, my Williams cap, ready to sit in the famous black chair of Netflix. “Thank you Netflix for make this possible, Bahrain is being cooking itself now�� The producer chuckle.

“So, we’re going to let you introduce you and then make you a few questions. Everything clear?”

“Sure” I look for a better position in the chair and look to the camera “My name is Charlotte Robyn-Jones and I’m engineer strategist for Williams Racing Formula One Team” I said with a smile on my face. I saw the people in the back laugh and I copy the action

“You can’t lie to Netflix, kid”

“I think I just did ... Anyway, 1, 2, 3, Monday to Friday, My name is Charlotte Robyn-Jones, I’m 23 and I’m a race driver for Williams Racing Formula One Team” I tilt my head to one side and laugh “Cool”

“So cool. What’s for you to be at the top of the game right now?, obviously avoiding the question that you must  be bored about” 

“Being a woman is fantastic, except for that thing every month but I can’t complain. I have to say that it’s not easy. You can dream of some things happening but all the same time, If you really wanted, the answer is get up and look for your better options to make things happen.” I gassped and look down and to the camera. “I remenber when I told my dad that I wanted to give it a try in karting and I wasn’t even 6, he looked at me like  I was some sort of silly muppet but then he make me promise that I will do great in school and then he will help me with the racing carreer I wanted. The rest is history”

A series of videos of her carreer show up, from her beginning in karts, F4, F3 and her successfull 2021 in F2 finishing as champion, smiling faces all around and obviously a very proud Charlotte.

“You just mention your dad. What about other members in your family? Friends or even a boyfriend?” I look at the producer with a side smile

“You guys are really something else, right?” they laugh “I’m single ready to mingle. I don’t talk to much about my family, I like to be private about that. I almost dropped all this. My family is my priority and two years ago I lost my mom due cancer so...”

“I’m sorry we don’t...”

“No, it’s okay” I smiled to the camera “She’s not here but I still talk about her like she’s just in the back of the house screaming to the dog for being so silly, she’s still here and I know she’s proud” 

“Sure she is. Just to finish ... Any expectations for your team. Everybody wanted to see you in a bigger team like Mercedes or Ferrari, did you hear any rumors about that?”

“Well, certanly I did hear, but the thing is, mmm, I always believe that If you wanna prove yourself is better to start from the very bottom, understand the little things and then you’ll find success, almost glory. Being in this sport is so tricky, like, one day you won in Monaco and the next day you’re out of the points or feeling that all your pasion is going out to your body” I see everybody’s faces like I was saying something fascinating “This is sport is like war, you better watch out your back ‘cause even your own team could kill you.”

“So, this is your year to discover yourself?”

“Yes, my bingo card this year will imply me being playing the art of war that is F1″

“Okay Charlotte, this is all for today. We’ll see you along the year”

“Thanks and don’t spill my secrets. Snitches end up in ditches, they say” 

I go out of the room straight to the Williams garage. Sure thing is that this year is going to be wild, after what happened last year between Red Bull and Mercedes, man, I really don’t want to be any member of those teams.

“Hello Ms. Jones, everything all right with Netflix?” My PR, Ava asked. She was in Alex side of the garage talking to other people

“Yeah, they’re like school girls” She laugh

“Yeah, sometimes. Today is media day so since you’re ready with your Williams merch, we can start signing some caps and cards and then continue with your schedule. Or do you want to start with press?”

“Up to you really, better doing the easiest first then I’ll face the sharks” We walk to a conference room when I found Alex with his girlfriend and his PR. Last year I met the girl in a tournament in the UK and we have been really close since then.

“Oh hello you, my girl and my boy rocking together this year” Lily said and hug me, while Alex put a false angry face

“Nice to see you Lily and yes, we’re going to rock or better than that” I said she smack Alex shoulder

“See, I tould you she has spirit!”

“I know, I think that everybody saw that video of her running along the track after her win in last year championship”

“Shh” I sit next to the pile of merch with my face on it. It’s 9:45 so I have time ‘till lunch and more interviews.

“Don’t be nervous, ok? I’m not gonna tell what to answer, you’re smart so answer like a pro”

“Like a pro? So I can say <<inchident>> or even ask about the interviewers plans for the summer?” I showed Ava a side smiled

“Please don’t and you’re going to be in between, your name is on the sofa” I enter the room and saw the amount of people organized in the back of the room with notepads, cameras and tricky looks.

“So, welcome everybody to the second session here in Bahrain, we are here with Lando Norris from McLaren, Carlos Sainz from Ferrari, Charlotte Jones from Williams, Lewis Hamilton from Mercedes and Sebastian Vettel from Aston Martin. Welcome to the drivers, we’re going to have a round of questions for this sesion, if that’s ok” I look at the others who nod.

“Hello, this question is for Charlotte” Great. “We want to hear your first impresions of your new team, if you have the chance to meet the other drivers and expectations for your rookie season”

I tried to smiled but I suddenly felt like I wanna dissapear and the lights we’re too bright so I put on my glasses and I hear Lewis laugh and how he copy my action and take the microphone “It’s sunny outside so there’s no need to put the  light to bright, thanks guys” And squeezed my hand.

“Yeah, lights, mmm, almost everybody saw me in the car last year when I met the team and my teammate. Everything has been great so far, mmm I spent half of the holidays with the Sainz family, there been close to my mom’s family so, yeah, Carlos and his trainer just help me to get in better shape for this rodeo, something that I’m grateful for” I fist bump with Carlos and laugh “And expectations, well, I prefer to see how it goes after the race, I sent my ideas and questions the past month so I know now that the car is fast and let’s see If we can put Williams on the top again”

Sebastian took the microphone and look at me “Do you know about engineering?”

“Yeah, I finished my degree in mechanical engineering last month, obviously online, so...”

“That’s impresive, kid” answer Sebastian

“Am I the only one scared now?” Ask Lando to everybody. Everybody laugh at that. The interview session went smoothly and not many questions were to me, since Lewis was in the room, the events of november where reminded. Questions about strategies and upgrades for Ferrari and Aston Martin and the chances of McLaren of getting a podium this year. After that, the session ended, Carlos stopped me.

“Welcome officially, girasol” He hug me in the process and we heard a cough

“Are you good, man?” 

“Since my friend here it’s so disrespectfull, nice to meet you, yo soy Lago” 

“Nunca le enseñaste bien español” I said laughing to the spaniard

“Ciertamente él fue un terrible alumno”

“Please don’t. Back to a common language” I smiled to him and oh boy! such beautiful eyes

“Charlotte, rookie, friend of this guy, fan of dogs, chocolate cake and be on my xbox the whole day” I shake his hand and he gasp

“Marry me”

“In a few years, maybe” I look to Carlos who look at me with wide eyes

“I don’t want him on family holidays, ten moths are too much now” As we were walking through the paddock, a few photographers and fans aproach us. Since Carlando were more famous that I am, so I go straight to my motorhome to lay down for a bit.

I finished my day with more media duties, to 6 pm I was going to wait for Carlos who offer a ride to the hotel. While I was waiting in the parking lot, the papaya pair waved at me.

“Hiya, you must me Charlotte. I’m Daniel, the one with good looks in the team” He said with a smile.

“Nice to meet you Daniel, how you guys doin’?”

“All good, we’re heading to the hotel, ready to kick asses tomorrow?” I saw how Lando seems certanly interested in the question

“I’m feeling normal, but yeah, let’s see tomorrow. My driver arrived so... see ya” I waved at them when Carlos opened his car. Daniel and Lando saw the couple leaving the parking lot when the australian looks at the youngest

“Why do you look so shock around her? I mean, even Max who lives in a rock knew about her”

“I’ve been friends of Carlos and I never see her around, it’s weird”

“Radio check, please” my race engineer said. Williams had the chance to start fourth in the two practices after Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, Red Bull and Alpine.

“ And I thought my heart was detached, from all the sunlight of our past, but she's so sweet, she's so pretty, does she mean you forgot about me? Yeah, yes, I’m going to send you my playlist for the race, what dou you think?” 

“We’ll  evaluate that after practice”

“It’s not a no, I wil take it”

“Ok Charlotte, 30 seconds to start heating the tyres and whenever you ready, your flying lap”

“Copy”

“Now, we’ll have Williams coming out the pits to start practice, first our rookie Charlotte, fresh out the oven as F2 champion. She’s heating the tyres and has 15 minutes to do a few laps and see how that car goes”

On the broadcast, the faces of the team principals were on screen, with their expectations on the girl and see how she start.

“Ok Charlotte, you can start in the next lap with Leclerc and Ocon in front of you” I pressed the copy bottom. Here I go.

One thing about me it’s that I brake late but my left foot likes to keep itself on the throttle. A girl have to give it all, right?

“I feel like I’m watching the Mercedes W11 all over again. Wow! I can see a future world champion, multiple times If she wanted too”

“That car is fast” said Christian Horner looking to Max’s engineer “What the hell?” 

“Definitely it is” 

“Toto, even when she brake the car doesn’t go below 170 km/h. what?” Lewis and Bono stand beside the team principal of Mercedes.

“I think that your eight championship have to wait a bit, I can’t believe my eyes”

“That girl is the real Toretto, don´t you think?” asked Yuki to the french man

“I wanna throw myself down a hill to be honest” 

“What the f***?, which car is that?, I almost get dizzy” asked Charles over the radio

“That was a Williams, the rookie, she’s 3 seconds faster than you”

“This is going to be a long season. F***”

“Well done Charlotte. With his pace you can certanly win every race this season”

“Haha, good job to everybody from those in the factory to the ones in the garage. What about Alex?”

“As good as you, the difference is 0.337″

“That’s good”

“Yes, we’ll wait for you in the garage”

As I parked, I could heard the applauses from my team and the people around the garage.

Walkerverse Character Tier List

Hello Walker Family! I'm here announcing the beginning of the Walkerverse Character Tier List series!

I've created a list of characters from Walker and Walker: Independence to put in a tier list ranking. I will be releasing a series of polls with all these characters (including pictures and brief reminders of their roles) to determine which Tier List ranking they get. Whichever option from S to F gets the most votes will become the official ranking of that character.

Here is the criteria I used to select the characters I'm putting in the poll series:

They must have a name on the imdb page

They must have a minimum of two appearances

I have to remember them, regardless of their appearance count

Single appearances that were special/memorable will also be included (ex: Uncle Willy, Minnie Jayne)

The rankings will be as follows:

S tier: Best character in the show, love them with all my heart, they can do literally nothing wrong

A tier: Beloved blorbo, one of my favorites, I'd want to be friends with them if they were real

B tier: I like them, but I have my critiques. A good character that I mostly enjoy

C tier: Mid character, not the biggest fan of them but I won't complain when they show up

D tier: I don't like them. I have many criticisms of their actions and personality. I may even dislike whole episodes because of them

F tier: Literally the worst character in the entire show. Hate them. Much dislike. I fastforward over them on rewatches.

I currently have pictures (for the poll and the complete tierlist that I will link when it is public) for 39 of the 120+ characters I put on the list, so that's where I will be starting. I will include the full list of all the characters from both shows below the cut along with the taglist.

Glee Musical Retrospective: 4 Minutes (The Power of Madonna)

I sometimes go back and read 'of the day' reviews, and one of them stated that this episode featured too much music. And I got to thinking, while I clearly don't agree, this is the one that would probably end up on the chopping block. I'm very glad it didn't though, because I think it has more to say than you may think.

And it's only one of two duets we get between Kurt and Mercedes.

Story Anaylsis

It's really nice to be talking about Kurt again... when is the last time???

So, here's the fascinating thing about this one. Kurt and Mercedes both often feel like they're playing second fiddle - especially to Rachel Berry. And here they get to showcase their amazing talents together. But the thing is - they got this huge performance as a thank you from Sue for making her over in Vogue. (Also - Sue is doing this as an FU to Will, but Sue is savvy enough to know talent when she sees it - and Kurt will remain one of her favorites for the rest of the series.)

The song itself is a little random story wise -- and most likely chosen because it was a highly energetic, more modern hit. It's a song about going out and saving the world in 4 minutes? Honestly - the lyrics are supposed to be about saving the planet, and having the urgency to do so. But I can finagle a few things...

I think one of the things both Kurt and Mercedes are doing here are latching onto the urgency in their own lives. Sue's giving them a chance to shine and they're both going to take it. Neither of them is willing to wait around for Will to give them a chance. So, they'll make their own chances. Which speaks to both their characters, really.

But if I die tonight At least I can say I did what I wanted to do Tell me, how bout you?

I think the lyrics are mostly not the point in this one. But I like this little stanza. It speaks to the two of them briming with their own confidence and jumping at the chance to show, at least the school, what they can do.

I'm going to quote myself from my Kurt meta:

One of the things I really love is how confident both Kurt and Mercedes are in this dance number–with the whole school watching.  Before, both of them were looked down upon, and thrown in dumpsters, and slushied, but now that they’re with the Cheerios and singing Madonna, they really latch on to a growing self-confidence.  Sure, they aren’t there yet, and they have many more obstacles to go over, but just the fact that they’re up there performing, uncaring really what anyone else thinks, is a step in the right direction.

I will say - one of the things that I've often had a hard time buying on this show is that people continually think that these kids are losers. I'd have been so amazed if I saw a performance like this in high school. There's no reason any of these kids get the hate they get except for the fact that the plot needs them to be.

Technical Thoughts

First of all - I love that they arranged this as a marching band song. Not only is it a great interpretation to the heavy sound of the original song, but it's nice to see a marching band used well on screen.

Secondly, they sound pretty good! I love Kurt in his lower register. And Mercedes just owns this song. It's not surprising that they had them switch parts because Amber is much more comfortable with kind of song than Chris and it does show a little bit in the vocal track.

The on screen charisma, though, they both have it. The fact that both Mercedes and Kurt feel so comfortable in their bodies is fantastic. Neither of them are what mainstream society would label as sexy or hot but I love, love, love that this speaks to that -- that these two are both sexy and hot in this number as they play off each other. The choreography on this is the best, and I love that they allow these characters to be in control and confident in their bodies.

Also - sometimes I don't think Chris gets enough credit. Yes, he can be clumsy and fall of a piano (oh we will get there) but sometimes he just owns his physicality in a way that is never commented on is just remarkable.

This performance also has some great reaction shots. I love that Will looks annoyed and almost disappointed. Rachel's 'no comment' was perfect. And I love that Quinn genuinely seems to be enjoying herself. (I love when Quinn gets to be a human.)

Also - super technical thing - but notice all the quick cuts and camera whips? I'm sure that was done purposely to enhance the urgency the song is trying to create.

Fun fact: Apparently, this is the last time Kurt does a duet with anyone else besides Blaine and Rachel until Adam Lambert shows up. Crazy right? Shame that the show doesn't try out varying combinations more often.

vs. The Studio Version: It's the full song! Or more so it feels like they just repeat the chorus a few more times. I do like the second half, though, because they both get into the song just a bit more and it feels even more powerful than the show version.

vs. The Original Song: I love that this song is actually 4 minutes long. It is slightly slower than Glee's version - which makes sense, because that's Glee's trend - to make everything just a little bit faster (I assume to fit into time limit of being on a tv show). As I said earlier, I think Glee's marching band interpretation is really cool - because it's a great in world adaptation of the instrumentation the original song uses. That all said, what is going on in this video? I don't get how this reflects saving the world. *shrugs*

This one in particular would be a fantasy sequence just like Make Em Laugh, putting Mike to sing this time since listening to the original, his voice is quite similar, and there’s space for a little tap dancing he can do

-sung on the show in a mash-up with Happy Days Are Here Again by Barbra Streisand, both the movie and Harlequin’s version are way happier than the one in the show that it’s not necessarily sad but it’s not a flashmob number where people join to dance

-Kurt would be singing this alone in the Warblers choir room, singing about how he is in love with Blaine, how he is slightly obsessed with Blaine and how his friends thinks he’s crazy for it, they weren’t as far as I remember, they were actually very supportive, even Mr Schue, anyway, for the sake of the drama Blaine would get in the room and innocently ask “who’s this about” and Kurt would mumble with his words

-this one was featured in the show but wasn’t a recorded solo and honestly, I’m mad, this being the song Rachel sings when she’s nervous/sad is so sweet to me, y’all wouldn’t get it, deserved to be fully covered and released in the season 1 album

-in case you didn’t notice before, neither of them appeared in the episode, due to Vanessa’s contract and… Damian doing something else I guess. Anyway, since the episode is basically a Bee Gees tribute I don’t see why they couldn’t perform this, it certainly fit Rory’s baritone voice and Sugar’s… kind of sweet voice when she doesn’t sound like a frog being squished by a truck?

-as a reference to Brittana singing this in the previous episode about their wedding, Klaine would sing this merely as a joke or in a state of craziness from being stuck in the elevator for so long, probably wouldn’t be recorded, it would also serve as a hint that they would also get married later in the season

-in season one these three recorded a cover of Tell Him by Celine Dion and Barbra Streisand, since then, they never had a trio together, they more than anyone else deserve it. This song would be amazing, it’s a song about fighting to get where you want and never give up, something we saw from them in various season, but season 3 in particular was when all three were willing to get more, I would’ve loved a cover of this

-I believe we all hate the way the newbies just got thrown away once they lost nationals right? -strange roster of singers don’t you think? Well, after Artie performed with the boys for Sugar, Rory would do the same but with the god squad, his baritone voice would make the performance very energetic as well as Mercedes high notes, it’s a gospel song, she sings one everyday as a workout, the other three would sing less but still have a verse or two

-I didn’t remember this song on the show so I had to rewatch it and damn, I didn’t remember it at all, it’s very sad, sung right after Mr Schue says he won’t be there for sectionals, and I liked it, it’s a good cover, although it sounds sometimes like an harmonies battle, they sing a line and you have eight different people doing “oh’s” and “ah’s”

♦️Happy Mistake sung by Rachel Berry in season 5

-I think she could sing this at the time she’s thinking about giving up on broadway, her head would probably be full with a lot of things, he career, the tv show, Santana, Finn and it would be too much for her to handle, so she would have this breakdown while singing and wishing for a little light at the end of the tunnel

Some of the higher % characters I didn't know too much about to discuss in detail, then as I started going down the list, I ended up with quite a few I'm aware of, so I'd be focusing more on those. First, hilarious she has a result with another character named Mercedes. I'm so damn proud she got Maeve, like the way I adore her as a personality, then I saw Lucifer and was like: HELL YES... she absolutely becomes what people truly desire (see what I did here). There's quite a lot of characters that love the lavish life (fitting as hell), are super charismatic and use that charisma to get ahead (so true about her) and also are looking for their true purpose/dream of something bigger (Dolores and Maeve, Mer too has lost the person she was once upon a time, after spending such a long time wearing different masks, to a point she has no idea if she's being liked for herself or her ability to appeal to people's nature). So yeah, I'd say those results nailed her.

Were you a general f1 fan before you became part of teamlh or have you always been just teamlh and don’t really care for f1?

STORY TIME! (I will try my very best to be brief)

So I got into F1 through my Dad growing up, and quality of Dad aside, my happiest memories of him are watching F1 races with him (he was a Schumi fan, so I was a Schumi fan. Dad even bought me a Ferrari barbie when I was little, and apparently I used to run around saying “vroom vroom Schumacher” as a kid. I have no recollection of this). My Dad died when I was 10 and I stopped watching F1 after that bc it was just too much for me at the time.

Cut to high school in 2013, and one of my friends was talking about one of the races from early on in that season, and I mentioned that I grew up watching F1 with my Dad but stopped, and she as quickly as possible tried to get me back into it. We watched the Spanish GP at my house after a sleepover, then the next race I watched myself was Canada and I’ve been hooked ever since.

Obviously being British, I knew who Lewis was from hearing about him occasionally on the news whenever he’d win races, but my friend was a Rosberg fan and wasn’t that keen on Lewis, so I very softly rooted for him for a long time (bc I’m soft and hate conflict and Seb and Jenson were my favourite drivers by that point).

When Seb and Jenson weren’t in contention for the title, I pretty much always rooted for Lewis (also for reasons I will state in Q2). And while 2017-2019 were very rough seasons for me personally, I very slowly became a Lewis fan from the Seb and Lewis helmet swap video onwards, which has now been cemented this season since Seb retired. (😭)

Tell me one of the reasons he brings you joy. Like what can he do that brings the biggest smile on your face?

One of the strongest Lewis memories I have was from the 2014 British GP (which was the first ever race I went to, and ended up being Lewis’ first win at Silverstone since 2008). On the cooldown/parade lap, Lewis slowed down and drove as close as he could past every single grandstand to wave to the crowds. It really resonated with me then and it still puts a massive smile on my face when I remember it now. It’s a memory that I hope to carry with me for a long, long time.

Aside from that, it has been so nice over the past ten years he’s been at Mercedes to see him grow properly into his own skin and find who he is. I love how hopeful he is, and how much he always tries to be positive and see the good in things. And how he’s always willing to grow, and learn and be the best version of himself. And any time he’s with Roscoe, bc doggos.

What is your favourite Lewis comfort video?

The Seb and Lewis helmet swap vid, as mentioned above. And I love any and all Jenson and Lewis content, especially series 1 of Tooned, and them singing Wonderwall (sorry to steal your answer Lydia)

What is your favourite race? (Could be favourite f1 race or just face Lewis race lol)

As mentioned above, Silverstone 2014, but also Turkey 2020 for obvious reasons, now that I feel like a ‘proper’ Lewis fan I do want to go back and watch loads of his iconic races so drop my a list of recs if you have any suggestions! And my fave race overall is probably the 2018 British GP.

“Karofsky might be who you're focusing on right now, but he's not the only one, and you know it. Even if they hadn't allowed him to come back, someone else would have taken his place, and then what? You gonna ask the school to expel them too? Where does it end? And what will you do when you can't hide behind coach Sylvester any longer?”

And that, that is pure resentment in her voice. Mercedes never had accepted the fact that coach Sylvester liked him better than her, that he'd stayed when she left, that he'd had success as a Cheerio. It had been, ultimately, why he'd left, even though the Cheerios would have been an excellent addition to his college application in a year, and he'd given it up. And for what? A friend that apparently isn't going to be the support he needs.

“You asked for my help. Well, here's what you should do. Your dad is trying to help you. Let him. Do as he says. Blend in more, you know, dress more normal, tone things down a little. I'll be your girlfriend, that should help – Mr H has always liked me. And you should start coming to church with me.

“I didn't want to push earlier, not when your dad was still recovering, but the way you reacted when he was in the hospital wasn't healthy. Striking out like that at your friends, when all we wanted to do was to help you, that... It just isn't right. If you feel as if you can't accept God in your heart, then you need help to do so. I'll help you, Kurt, as will your family. All you need to do is help us.”

He can barely believe his ears. Yes, it had become obvious earlier that Mercedes wasn't going to be the rock he needs her to be, but this? This isn't just not being a rock, this is being as unsupportive as is possible, this is being actively against him. No matter how she presents is, this is Mercedes Jones taking a stand against everything that he is.

And he thought she loved him as much as he loved her.

“Kurt?”

“Sorry. Look, Mercedes, this was... You gave me a lot to think about, okay? I... I need to talk to dad again, and. I'll call you later.”

He doesn't know if he will, of course, nor if he's going to talk to his dad any time soon, but he's desperate to get away. He's about to break down completely, and he needs to not be on the phone with Mercedes when he does so. He needs to not let her catch on to what he's really feeling.

She blabs on for a while, and he makes what he hopes is appropriate noises, but he's not listening. He just wants to go.

So. He already knows he can't be straight. He can't. Coming out, even to himself, wasn't something he just did. He hadn't labeled himself “gay” lightly, or for fun. It had just been the only truth that had fit.

Kurt remembers spending countless nights agonizing over it, being afraid, hoping he'd run into a girl that would do it for him. He never wanted to be gay, to be seen as abnormal and disgusting, he'd just learned to accept that he was, and then tried to not see himself as any of the slurs thrown at him.

It had been Mercedes herself, in a way, that had forced him to come to terms. She's gorgeous, with all the qualities he wants in a partner – with the exception of her gender. He's always seen this, and surely, if any girl should be able to make him feel anything but admiration and friendship, it should be her.

Up until that point he'd still held out in the hopes of being at least bi – Finn had been the last blow to his denial when it came to being attracted to boys, but he'd still not been ready to accept that he was gay – but realizing Mercedes had feelings for him, and it only causing him to panic... Yeah. Gay.

Brittany had only confirmed it. (Strange, how two of the most beautiful girls he knows both went for him.)

Could he try and play straight then? It didn't work last time, he's painfully aware of how much he failed then, but there's more at stake now. Because this time? He's not afraid he might be kicked out, he knows he'll be. He also knows what mistakes he made last time, as well as more about how a real teenage boy is supposed to act.

Maybe if this time he tried to copy not his dad, but Finn? That should be easier, surely, and not as obvious, right? He already knows he can perform on the football field, and while coach Beiste does have an acceptable kicker, surely she can use a back-up. There's also the fact that his face and body has changed since last year, and he has better control of his chest voice now. Maybe...

But no. Playing straight hurt and it would be even worse a second time, Kurt's pretty sure of that. This time he's experienced the freedom of not hiding, and even with the escalation it had caused in the bullying it had been worth it. Also, he's willing to bet on the fact that his dad's ultimatum wasn't about playing straight.

He can try, yes, and hope that his dad will come to his senses again, but that's a risky game. What if his dad doesn't change his mind again? What if he never gives up on having a straight son? If that's how it is, then Kurt playing straight won't help any, it'll only cause him suffering.

And for what? Trying to please a family that doesn't love him the way he is?

He'd called Mercedes in the hope that she would welcome him, that her family would allow him to stay with them, that they'd come through for him as they'd done for Quinn. Instead she'd sided with his dad. And that leaves him alone.

Mercedes is his only friend. Rachel tries to be one, when she isn't actively fighting him, but they're not that close. And if he was to go to her... Her dads would most likely offer him a place, yes, out of some sort of queer solidarity, but they would – or so he believes – also try and mediate. And there is no way Burt Hummel would allow the son he wants to turn straight to go live with Lima's only out gay couple.

As for the rest of the glee club, and the adults surrounding him... None of the other kids would back him up. Brittany might, yes, but she could just as easily do as Mercedes had. Staying with her could ruin things between her and Artie though, even if somehow it didn't manage to give Brittany the wrong ideas.

Mr Schue doesn't really care about him, that much is obvious, and Miss Pillsbury is frankly useless. Coach Sylvester... No, best not go there.

Besides, he knows how much these people care about a teen getting kicked out of their home. He'd gotten all the evidence he needs the year before, when no one had raised as much as a finger to help Quinn. Mercedes had been the only one, and to realize she is less willing to back him up than Quinn breaks his heart. It's reason enough to ensure that even should he decide to go with his dad's demands, he won't ever do so the way she had suggested.

He's thought of Mercedes as his best friend, his sister almost, and it's a hard painful blow to his heart that she apparently doesn't value him the same way he does her.

If he can't return home, and can't get any help in Lima, then there's only one solution: he needs to leave. Run away.

He's not exactly equipped to run away though. Sure, he's got his wallet and his cell, but that's it. No jacket, much too thin clothing, shoes unsuited for walking around outside... He needs more. Luckily he knows exactly where to get it.

For once the brutal reality of McKinley is working for him. His locker is filled to the max, and just about everything in it is something he can use now. There, a bag of unused gym clothes – the shorts and tee are mainly useless, sure, but it's clothing and so he takes them anyway. The sneakers are perfect. And over there, two complete outfits in case he needs to change during the day (he almost always has to) and of course his “emergency kits”, one a toiletry bag for dealing with slushies – complete with travel towel, soap, shampoo, moisturizer and clean underwear; one a well-stocked first aid kit and the last one a miniature sowing kit – with everything from needles, thread and pins to buttons, three kinds of fabric cleaner and patches.

He's got more though. A water bottle, some energy bars, dried fruit, nuts, chocolate... His old mp3 player, an emergency $50, a pair of out of style sunglasses, a rescue blanket, a thin rain cape and a paperback he hasn't gotten around to reading yet. All of it gets thrown into the gym bag.

He's still not done. Kurt knows that the chances of his dad letting him just leave aren't that great, if not because he wants his gay son at home so at least because it doesn't look good to have your kid run away, and that means he needs to disguise himself.

The theater department is just as sadly underfunded as everything else not football or cheerleading, meaning most of their supplies are donated. That makes it “normal” clothes though, and not exactly well documented. The chances of anyone realizing that the items he takes are missing are minimal, and even if they do he'll be far away by then. Dressed in baggy khakis, a ratty windbreaker, his sneakers and a OSU hoodie he looks nothing like his regular self – except for from the neck up.

He snatches a pair of blackrimmed glasses (outfitted with window glass, apparently) and nods. That looks better. Not perfect though... But. There's a pair of clippers in one of the drawers. It's a horrible thought, but getting away is more important than looks, and so Kurt gives himself a buzz cut.

The face he sees in the mirror doesn't look like his own. He'd be horrified, normally, but right now that's the effect he wants, and so he nods.

Time to get out.

Hiking through town is much easier now, when he's dressed somewhat appropriately, but he's still happy when he manages to catch a ride. The truck is from out of state, and the tired trucker barely looks at him, only nods when Kurt tells him – using his lower register – that he's looking to “get back” to school. The “visit with the girlfriend's family didn't go well” excuse is accepted, and Kurt breathes a little easier when they cross Lima city limits.

The secondhand store in XXX opens at ten. Kurt waits until 10:20, thinking he'll be too noticeable if he's hanging on the lock, waiting for them to open. The owner listens to him, looks at the outfit and the shoes Kurt offers up, and nods. He gets ripped off, he knows it, but in the end he doesn't care. What's important right now isn't what Kurt payed for those clothes, or what they're worth – it's what he can get in exchange.

And that is more than he'd dared hope for. A backpack, well-used but in good shape, a sleeping bag, a pair of boots that are scuffed but still in good condition, a second pair of pants and a small camping stove. He even manages to get a wool cap and a pair of thin gloves out of the deal. There's a hunting store nearby; he'll stop there and buy some warm socks, and some camping food, and move on. The sooner he gets out of Ohio, he thinks, the better.

For once the fact that his country is so divided will work for him.

The power of two mañes... absolutely incredible. Only them could have done this song with those extremely long notes, as they're similar to the ones in jotas, and they both have a background on them, so yeah, perfect song to do for them! They even call how they sing this a 'mejijota' (so mexican jota), lol.

Glee Musical Retrospective : And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going (Sectionals)

Sung by: Mercedes Jones Original Artist(s): from Dreamgirls OS

So. Before I dig into this, there are a couple of things I need to mention. The first being something that really irritates me... the show has a tendency to do this to Mercedes. They show case how much she is an amazing, amazing talent -- go out of their way to point out how great a singer she is and that she deserves the spot light as much as Rachel does. Gets to sing this kind of song -- and knock it out of the park. Then they plot it away so that Rachel can still be star of the show.

Amber Riley is a magnificent vocalist, one of the strongest female vocalist on the show, and possibly one of the most impactful. It's a shame that the despite giving her a lot of music to do, never really showcased her character they way she really deserved.

The other thing is that this song is from the Dreamgirls Soundtrack. Amber Riley, after Glee, goes on to star as Effie White on the West End and got an award for it. Dreamgirls will be a reoccurring theme with her character, and it seems fitting in retrospect.

Also there's a hilarious beat where Rachel calls her a balladeer and Mercedes is like 'wtf' to Matt of all people, who has no idea either. It's so random an the expressions are hilarious. I'd be remiss if I didn't point it out.

Alright, on with the show...

Story Analysis

The thing about this song is that it's about unrequited or lost love. Mercedes is using it more as a statement. You can't take away her self worth or the depth of her talent because she will throw it right back into your face. She really goes there with the emotion of the song -- and uses it as a proclamation that she won't back down to Rachel's challenge.

I think the second half of the song is more indicative to Mercedes's story -- it's another one of those moments where she declares that you can push me around all you want -- but I'm not backing down from the fight, and I'm still going to come out on top no matter what.

I'm stayin' I'm stayin' And you and you and you You're gonna love me

This is probably one of my favorite musical moments on the show. I love that this moment (when she sings this) is Mercedes standing her ground. And basically telling her classmates (and the audience, and the world) that you're going to see how talented I am - and cheer me on for it. It's so, so good.

Technical Analysis

So - first I want to point out that Amber Riley sang it live, but then - for a cleaner version - they used the studio version. I really wish we could have heard the live version, I'm so fascinated by that. Anyway, one (tiny) drawback is that you can tell this is lip synced. I get why they did it - but it throws me just a little bit during the performance.

That said... Mercedes's performance is pretty flawless. She's got that raw grit and emotion that really sells it very quickly. The thing I love about Mercedes's solos is that she feels them so deeply and with her whole body. She gives the performance an incredibly captivating energy, which is why everyone gets so drawn in by it.

If I had to guess - I'd say that the reaction shots were probably genuine -- the kids were probably allowed to react honestly as they watched their friend Amber just kill the song. (Of course - the one exception being Rachel, who has to be in character so that she can be humbled by the performance.)

Glee Live

This is Amber Riley performing at the Olivier Awards (for which she one for Best Actress, btw). The thing that's incredible to me -- Riley at the beginning of Glee is mega talented, but very raw. This performance shows how much she's grown as an artist. It's a more polished and nuanced version of the one she did on Glee, and it's remarkable how much she's built on that great foundation. I have nothing but gushing things to say.

vs. The Studio Version : It's the full version - and you can hear the instrumentation clearer in this one. (The mix is more balanced.) I can understand why they pulled away from the accompaniment in the show -- so that Mercedes's voice could be more the focal point.

vs. The Original Version : And here's Jennifer Holliday, who originated the role of Effie White on Broadway. The first thing I want to point out is the fact that Glee updated the arrangement. This particular recording (and I assume it's based on the original Broadway production) has much more synth accompaniment, which dates to that late 70s/early 80s feel.

Jennifer Holliday is an amazing talent. You can see where Mercedes gets her influence -- Mercedes (and Amber Riley) definitely takes inspiration from Holliday's performance and style.

-this song would happen in the time where she started working on that restaurant, the song refers to a hardworking person who may have flaws and may be wrong sometimes but despise all, she stills has a diamond heart, the reason I chose Rachel and not someone else is because the diamond heart refers to Gaga’s arrangement ring, which was a diamond in the shape of a heart, and by this time Rachel was the only one dealing with a premature wedding

A-YO sung by Brittany Pierce in season 4

-this song is all about haters and being sexy and confident in yourself, I guess she could’ve sung this around the time she had her breakdown or somewhere similar, I also think her voice would fit quite well, and the song is very energetic so it could definitely bring some choreo

Joanne (Where Do You Think You're Goin'?) sung by Finn Hudson

-okay so a little background on this entire album, Joanne is Gaga’s middle name but also her aunt’s name, an aunt that died before she was born, but her death left a hole in her family and she missed her aunt as well despite not knowing her at all, this is Finn’s relationship with his dad, he never met him but he missed him, it’s a part of him that is missing and not even Burt or Will can fully complete it, it’s a part of him that will never be found again, but maybe this could for Finn could mean a goodbye and an I love you, also I cried writing this because I love this song so much

John Wayne sung by Santana Lopez

-while the songs intent doesn’t fit any character on the show, I think we can use some analogy, John Wayne refers to this stunning cowboy guy who’s from the country side and isn’t awful like the city boys, what if the city boys just refer to men in general while John Wayne is an analogy to women, or Brittany in particular, her true love

Dancin’ in Circles sung by April Rhodes

-I actually decided to edit this one, it makes more sense to be an April song, plus her voice would really fit the country more, no Quick duet for you fans here, sorry bout that, by the way in case you’re first seeing this after the edit, the song is about female masturbation, April Rhodes right?

Perfect Illusion sung by Mercedes Jones in “Asian F”

-she would sing this after being kicked out of the glee club, singing about how despite being friends for years their friendship was nothing more than a perfect illusion, girl would let all her rage come out with this song, this could’ve been vocally one of Mercedes best songs if I’m being honest

Million Reasons sung by Finn and Rachel

-this would take place between season 3 and 4, Rachel would be feeling insecure about not having Finn in her life, while Finn would be dying inside, wanting to go back to her but knowing it’s for the best if he’s away, they would both sing this together about how they have million reasons to stay distant for the better of each other but only one good reason would be enough for them to get back together

Sinner’s Prayer sung by Quinn Fabray

-this song is an apology from Quinn to any men she loved, saying how she don’t want to break anyone’s heart but ended up doing it, sinning every time it happens again, I also chose her for the religious theme of the song, having faith, sin, forgiveness and some other topics

Come to Mama sung by Mercedes and Unique

-these two deserved a song together, what better song to sing them this one? Y’know, the song about loving a person so strongly that it overcomes the hard parts and eventually build a future, they would be singing this to their token dyslexic white boys, and as puppies they would be barking for their girls

Hey Girl feat. Florence Welch sung by Ryder and Sam

-okay so this song while being about girl power, I can also see this song as a tribute to women, since Unicedes sung the previous song to their boys, nothing more than fair than have Syder sing a tribute to them, these two, unlike the previous duo, actually have a duet together so we can picture in our heads how this song could play out

Angel Down sung by Artie, Blaine, Mercedes, Rachel and Sam in “Bash”

-this song was inspired by the murder of Trayvon Martin, a 17-year-old black kid who was shot by his neighbor, unfortunately his murderer was found not guilty. After knowing the context I got back to Bash, the episode where Kurt was attacked by homophobes, this song would be sung mainly by Blaine and Sam, on how their angel was shot down, I’m not exactly sure if in the episode the guys who attacked Kurt were arrested or something, I like to think yes, it’s best to be positive in an ocean of negativity, also this song has a work tape version which is essentially the same song with more raw vocals and less electronic sounds, maybe they could’ve sung this version. Rest in peace Trayvon Martin

Grigio Girls sung by Mercedes, Quinn, Rachel, Santana and Tina with Brittany, Lauren and Sugar

-this song talks about Gaga’s childhood friend who had cancer, and when she wasn’t around Gaga and her other girlfriends would cry together, this song would be just a sweet song of the girls standing out for each other (in the universe where Lauren stayed after season 2) Mercedes, Quinn, Rachel, Santana and Tina would all have at least a solo verse while the other three would be doing back-up vocals, if I’m being honest, this would be better than I Kissed a Girl. Rest in peace Sonja Durham

Just Another Day sung by Rachel Berry

-this song is very straight forward, it would be about Rachel singing about her love for New York, even if the city is a mess and very loud and irritating, she’s happy, she’s very happy in her favorite town, everyday is just another happy day for Ms Berry in NYC

Loose Ends

INVOLVED: Mercedes Jones, Tank Wilson, Darius Clark, and Katherine Ellis LOCATION: n/a; Boston, Massachusetts TIME FRAME: Wednesday, November, 9th, 2022 NOTES: After taking care of Mark, Mercedes decides to take care of his wife and kids too. TRIGGER WARNING: mention of guns and death.

“I did what you asked me to do. I went to the police and I told them I think the description I gave of the guy was wrong” Katherine told her. “I told them that I couldn’t really remember and that maybe that wasn’t how he really looked” she said pleadingly. 

Mercedes sat on the coffee table in front of the woman, she crossed her legs at the knee and swung her foot nonchalantly back and forth. “I asked you not to do anything until I told you to and yet you have run to the police again, without my guidance Katherine” she spoke calmly. 

“I know” Katherine told her, her eyes watering, “what do you want from me right now, you barged in with loaded guns threatening my life” she told her “bragging about doing to me what you did to my husband” she cried. “They have guns to my children's head and I am trying to do whatever you ask. I don’t want to die” she screamed. 

Mercedes blinked at the woman, looking over at the three kids tied up and laid out on the ground. She silenced their cries long ago with gags, she couldn’t stand the unnecessary noise in her ears. Her eyes moved up to Tanks for a moment, pondering her next move. She could just scare the family to the point where they were no longer a problem for her but she didn’t trust people. So for her, getting rid of them would be the only option in any scenario. “Much like your late husband, you just don’t listen,” she countered, “things are so simple, but you’ve made them hard” she told her. 

“You shouldn’t have ran your big fucking mouth to the cops to begin with” Tank said looking down at the woman, his gun drawn and resting against her temple. “You knew exactly who and what your husband was; a piece of shit…” 

Mercedes looked up at Tank from her seated position, “did I ask you to speak?” she asked him. It seemed like everytime she turned around he had something to say. She didn’t need a hype man; she was man enough on her own. “Mark wasn’t a piece of shit�� she corrected looking back at the woman “he was stupid” she told his wife. “He was a man who wanted to feed his family and would do anything to do just that but he shouldn’t have interfered with me doing the same thing” she sighed. “I am not a heartless woman Mrs. Ellis, I’ve loved too much in the past if you asked me. But I am a business woman at the end of the day, my money is what is most important to me. So you have to go” she told her. “Tank makes me to much of it for you to send him to prison right now” she concluded as she picked up the glass filled with water and calmly took a sip. 

Tank’s back slumped a bit at Mercedes words, she was so cold lately. He wondered if it was all stemming from business or something else. Despite this, he looked back down at Katherine ready to shoot when asked. 

Katherine looked up at the man beside her, mascara smudging from the constant tears she was shedding. She wished she could lay eyes on her babies, all she could really hear from them was muffled cries. “I will do anything, anything you want me to” she told her “please don’t kill them, don’t kill me. I will tell the police whatever you want me to tell them I promise” she told her. “Don’t hurt them, they are just kids. Don’t you have kids? How could you ever do this and sleep at night?” 

“I do, his name is Bruno, a rottweiler” Mercedes replied with flat sarcasm as she took another sip from the glass of water, when she was done she sat the glass back down beside her on the table. “What exactly did you tell the police again? And don’t lie, because I will kill a child with each one you offer me” she told her. 

Katherine figured this must have been what Mark felt before the woman put three bullets into his head. Endless fear and dread, on one hand you wanted so desperately to live and on the other you just wanted the deed to be done so that the games stopped. “I told them that I had gotten the description wrong. That maybe I was just too emotional to remember every detail. I gave them a new description of a black guy I saw at a local market” she told her. 

Raising a brow at the woman Mercedes uncrossed her legs and stood up in her heels. There was so much she wanted to unpack in the moment but she chose not to. She sighed to herself shaking her head, “call me when it’s done” she told Tank. “Thanks for the water Katherine, that was a thoughtful gesture” she admitted. She turned to leave the woman’s home, closing the door behind herself.
