GR: I mean, talking as a fellow driver as opposed to sort of my role with the GPDA, I think everybody felt with certain things that have happened over the course of this year that we wanted to sort of stand united. At the end of the day, we just want to be transparent with the FIA and have this dialogue that is happening, and I think the departure of Niels is also a prime example of not being a part of these conversations. And ultimately, we only we want to work with the FIA to make the best for the sport that we all love. So, I think it's kind of us now putting the pressure back on them to work with us and work with everyone, including F1 as well, just to maximise this opportunity, which Formula 1 is in at the moment, which is, you know, an amazing time to be a part of.  (...) I think sometimes just hiring and firing is not the solution. You kind of need to work together to improve the problem. So, let's see what this new era is going to bring, but every time there is a change, you have to take one step back before you make the two steps forwards.

F1 and the FIA have made changes to the many manhole covers along the circuit.

A significant number of manhole or similar covers have been paved over, while others (which need to be accessible when F1 isn’t in session) have been reinforced with a much wider and heavier anchoring block to keep them in place.

There is a rumour that Zandvoort will lose it’s permanent place on the calendar when it’s contract expires in 2025, and from 2026 onwards it’s expected to be on the calendar in a rotational basis (on the calendar every other year)

The other tracks that are rumoured to be rotated in and out are, Spa, Imola and Barcelona

So it’s possible that Spa and Zandvoort (for instance) could be held on alternating years, and then there’s no guarantee that they’d just stick to one alternating pair, and you could get Imola and Barcelona alternating too.

Mercedes' George Russell says the Formula 1 drivers are ‘a bit fed up’ with the leadership of the sport’s governing body, the FIA.

Russell, a director of the Grand Prix Drivers' Association (GPDA), said the drivers ‘weren’t aware’ of the decision to remove the race director Niels Wittich three races before the end of the season.

The Briton said: ‘There are a number of drivers who feel a bit fed up with the whole situation and it only seems to be going to a degree in the wrong direction.’

Russell made it clear he was referring specifically to the leadership of the FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem.

He said it was ‘not difficult’ to have a meeting with Ben Sulayem, but ‘having promises fulfilled is another matter.’

timeline of events (for my own reference but also if anyone else wants):

GPDA writes a letter to the FIA/ben sulayem, calling them out

FIA says race director niels wittich has "stepped down", with 3 races left in the season

niels wittich says he didn't step down, he was "sacked" over disagreements with ben sulayem

the drivers did not know about this until it was done

rui marques will now be race director for the remainder of the season (he has already been race director in f2/f3)

the FIA has not yet responded to the GPDA's letter

lewis says they will "chase up" the FIA for a response if they don't reply soon

he has also said that the drivers are united in this and want a closer working relationship with the FIA
