Ghouls at the Aquarium
Headcanons about the ghouls at the aquarium. Inspired by a trip to the Shed Aquarium in Chicago. Had to shout it out because it was so frickin amazing. No one ask me my favorite exhibit because I will say all of them. But also definitely the belugas and the jellyfish.
Cirrus: She loves the dolphins. As serious and strict as she sometimes is, she’s like a kid at Christmas when the group reaches the dolphin enclosure. She admires how smart they are as well as how sleek they look darting through the water. And yes she knows what little shits they can be and she doesn't care. She still thinks they’re neat. She plans the day around making sure to catch the dolphin show at least twice. Cumulus buys her a dolphin plushie and she just about melts into a happy puddle.
Cumulus: As much as Cirrus loves dolphins, Cumulus loves beluga whales. She thinks they look majestic. And huggable. She would hug one if she could. The rest of the girls booked a behind the scenes beluga experience for her and they got to see them up close, feed them, and even pet them. By the end of it they’re all giggling at how cute the beluga’s are.
Sunshine: She thinks the lionfish are neat and likes how their spines look like sunbursts. Kinda sad that they’re an invasive species but understands why work to remove them from the wrong areas is important for the marine ecosystem. Gets a postcard from the gift shop with a picture of one to put in her room.
Aurora: She spent a solid half an hour sitting in front of the moon jellyfish tank watching them. It was one of those circular tanks that have a slight current to gently cause the jellies to drift in a circle. That and the color changing light had her mesmerized. She would have spent longer watching them but the others literally pulled her away so she could see the rest of the aquarium.
Dewdrop: He wasn't too sure about it at first. The aquarium kind of dredged up some melancholy and yearning for his water ghoul days. He's happy as a fire ghoul for sure, it suits him better. He definitely misses his water though. Fortunately he warms up to it; seeing how excited Rain and Phantom are playing a big part. He can’t help but crack a smile when Phantom starts mimicking the penguins. He ends up loving the eels and the caimans. Joins Rain in naming all this fish, offering increasingly unhinged suggestions.
Rain: His unglamoured form is pretty sharklike so it's not surprising that Rain has a fondness for sharks. The pile of shark plushies on his bed definitely isn’t a tip off either. Besides the sharks, Rain likes pretty much every exhibit. He gives silly names to every fish that catches his eye with help from Dew and discusses which fish would taste the best with Swiss much to the horror of the other patrons.
Mountain: He really likes the sea dragons because they look like plants. He didn’t know they were a thing until seeing them at the aquarium for the first time. Also really interested in the aquatic plants (of course) and the frogs and turtles.
Aether: He really likes the manta rays. He thinks they’re so cute. Loves how it looks like they’re flying through the water. Way too excited about getting to pet them but it's endearing.
Swiss: Phantom actually saw the piranhas before Swiss did, took one look between the two of them and dubbed them cousins. Swiss did not help his case by immediately baring his teeth in a grin. He then proceeded to chase Phantom around the room threatening to nibble on him while Phantom giggled. That is until Cirrus put a stop to that so they didn’t get kicked out.
Phantom: Loves absolutely everything but also the penguins and starfish. He asks the staff a million questions and they’re happy to answer every one. Leaves the gift shop with a stack of books on ocean facts that he and Rain end up reading aloud the whole ride home.

How this underwater car was created
[Underwater Organic Angel] Something in the shape of a mollusk with a slightly transparent body.
This is a description of the process of drawing this design. The post was made for me as a keepsake. I have been putting it off for a long time, but finally got around to it.
Initially I saw a cool reference concept with heavily darkened figures, where a large shadow had wings like a manta ray. Initially it was planned that it would be a ghost like deep-sea transparent creatures, but then for no reason I decided to attach a cat's head (I don't know how to explain it, but they fit almost everywhere). There was no sketch of the first head left, but here is a sketch without a head at all lol.
and yes, originally it was planned to add prawn paws, but they were burdening the view.
My mistake was that i made the design too white, later it was corrected.
This is the background and the best part of the whole work. A sketch in a couple of minutes, but it looks better than hours of work.
This design comes with an anthro version as a bonus, so the next step was to adapt the design to the anthro anatomy.
Some sketches were made in notes on the phone.
I really don't like the usual drawings where the body is literally like a human, and all the extra body parts are attached like typical wings or decorations on a person (like the first sketch above). We need more monstrosity and individuality.
And the final result! The strangest thing for me is that it all took 3 days. It was really fast!

Eive finally gets out of jail
It took a while, but finally, the hour for guards to shift turns had arrived. Eive waited in her cell patiently. Nis’ien had said someone would come to get her out of here, and she would trust her friend.
She thought of everything that had happened with her father. Did she regret saying the things she’d said? No. She should have told him way sooner. It was deserved. She had endured enough, and his response? Oh, very mature. Throwing her into jail because he didn’t agree. Honestly, it was funny. Who would have thought the great General would have a tantrum and throw his child on a cell because she was right?
Why had she bothered? Had she deep down hoped to be wrong about him? Perhaps. But as always, it had been a disappointment. She was through with him. There were still people on the depths that mattered though… Like all the bastard children like her that also weren’t accepted.
These things were crossing her mind when suddenly, a literal big hole was opened on the cell. “What the-”-she started, but she soon found out someone signing to keep quiet, so she did. She waited patiently until the hole was big enough, and swam through it.
There was a huge animal nearby that kinda looked like the Llixulian version of a manta ray from Earth. Following the other’s silent instructions, she held onto it, and the manta quickly swam away with them. She was a bit surprised when they got out of the city and headed for a deeper part of the ocean. She tensed, knowing that bigger predators liked to catch unexpecting prey around here.
Luckily, they headed into a cave, the manta stopping at the entrance, and both of them swam into it. She was surprised to find out what looked like hidden, underwater headquarters. And even more surprised when she saw Nis’ien was there, along with quite a few people.
“Nis?”
Her friend hugged her. “Good, you’re safe! We were worried you’d be taken from the cell before we could do anything. These guys… I think you might have seen them before.”
“I…”-Eive glanced around and blinked. “You. You were there when I snapped at that lady at the bar.”
“Some of us were.”-said the male that had brought her here. “We never thought someone would stand up for us. And we never thought it would be you…
Eive’s eyes narrowed. “Because I’m the General’s child, right. Listen, I get enough of that by them. I don’t need you to be like that too.”-she hissed.
He put his palms up. “No offense meant. That was brave, and we are grateful.”
She calmed a bit. “What is this place?”
“It is where many of us bastards meet up. One of the few places where we feel truly safe.”
“Despite the predators?”
“Yes.”
“Well. I suppose the time has come to hatch the plan, then."
#muse:eive#npc:nis'ien#I've had this on drafts forever#It's about time it's posted lol#I will have to write a part 2 at some point though to see how that plan goes#Her father will *not* be happy though

Chapter 215: Fearsome Womb, Part 7
// SPOILER WARNING!!! DO NOT PROCEED IF YOU HAVE NOT READ THE CHAPTER YET.
/// Happy 5th anniversary to Jujutsu Kaisen! The 3rd JJK Character Popularity Poll is ongoing from March 3 to March 20, and everyone in Japan and/or with tickets are able to cast their votes here!
–
Opening words: “Sukuna and Itadori face off. The one approaching is…!”
Aaaaa, beautiful lead color page! 😍 This flying cursed spirit suddenly reminds me of the one that both Nanako and Mimiko travelled on back in Volume 0. Also Suguru's flying manta ray cursed spirit in HI arc, when he rescued Riko :')
》 Meguna/Sukumi: “Nonetheless, a job half-done [will] cause problems.”
Here, Sukuna said, 「やはり何事にも仕上げは必要だな」 (yahari nanigoto ni mo shiage wa hitsuyō da na), which means as translated above. Official translations was weird, so I think it might have been a copy-paste mistake.
》 Yuuji: “This guy... won't die even if you kill him.”
"Even if you kill him" is the accurate translation.
(Left panel)
》 Yuuji: “You... are really boring.”
This one's easy to miss but FYI, this phrase is most likely a callback to chapter 11 (see right panel)! Here, Yuuji uses the same words Sukuna had used on him when he was inside Sukuna's innate domain — 「オマエはつまらんな」 (omae wa... tsumaran na). In this instance, however, Yuuji added in, "really" — 「オマエは本当につまらんな」 (omae wa... hontōni tsumaran na).
(Right panel)
》 Sukuna: “You... are boring.”
Just a note that in this panel in chapter 11, Sukuna was belittling Yuuji and seeing him as inferior to Megumi Fushiguro.
Just wanted to explain that here, Maki (I'm assuming this is her dialogue) is basically meaning that it's weird seeing how good "Megumi" is at fistfights. It sorta implies that Megumi wasn't that good at hand-to-hand combat in her pov, but since right now he's possessed by Sukuna, "Megumi" is much better at it. In addition, the "Megumi's face" isn't a wrong translation but you can also say, "It's weird to see him good at fistfights with (using) Megumi's body."
》 Maki: “Even if he won't die, does that mean he can heal the wound [inflicted] from the "Split Soul Katana" using Reverse Cursed Technique..?”
Officials didn't include the "using RCT" part, which needed to be said.
》 Maki: “Yuuji... At any rate, our goal is to capture that thing even if it means killing (it), right?”
捕まえる (tsukamaeru) means to catch, arrest, grab, capture, or seize. Not stop. And FYI, Maki referred to Meguna/Sukumi as "that," or like Kenjaku once labelled Yuuji - "that thing".
Just wanna say that "Maximum Output" isn't a new type of CT by Uraume; 'cause I saw some people going crazy over it calling it a new Uraume CT. (I bet they're speedreaders lulz.) In this instance, Uraume basically exerts the highest (aka max.) output into their "Frost Calm" CT. Reminder that Gojo also used Maximum Output before, back in Shibuya... if anybody forgets.
》 Meguna/Sukumi: “Spectacular view! Spectacular view!”
Sukuna praised this view and said, 「絶景.. 絶景..」 (zekkei.. zekkei..), which is a flowery Japanese term that means an unsurpassably beautiful scenery. I just chose spectacular because it's another word for "extremely beautiful", so... yall can choose whatever you like I guess. It can be "cool," it can also be "awesome." [I just had a pop quiz on this kanji a week ago so it's still fresh in my memory LMAO.]
(Right panel)
》 Meguna/Sukumi: “It doesn't matter whatever you do with that brat, I'm already done with him.”
(Left panel)
》 Meguna/Sukumi: “But it was the right choice to focus your cursed energy on that woman.”
Sukuna said 「偏らせた」 (katayora seta) which means biased, leaned, prejudiced. I believe in this context, it just means that Uraume had focused their cursed energy on Maki.
》 Meguna/Sukumi: “Let's complete this body.”
Official translation is kinda alright. Meanwhile, what I've offered is just the literal translation and it sounds weird, lol, but it just means that the body is still incomplete - so they gotta do their stuff to achieve the desired, final form.
》 Meguna/Sukumi: “Get the "bath" ready.”
Yes, "bath" was in quotation marks. The raws were 「"浴"の用意をしろ」 (“yoku” no yōi o shiro). Now why am I imagining the "bath" to be with blood instead of water!
》 Meguna/Sukumi: “Just like always... [You're] meticulous.”
FYI, Sukuna used an idiom in this dialogue. He said 「相変わらず洋い所に手が届く」 (aikawarazu yō kayui tokoro ni te ga todoku), which literally translates to: "Just like always, your hand reaches the itchy areas/places."
The idiom here is 「洋い所に手が届く」 (kayui tokoro ni te ga todoku), and it means "to be extremely thorough" or "to focus on the little details." Simply put, this expression can be used for someone who is "meticulous"; one who is able to pay attention to every single detail, no matter how tiny.
Additionally, in the service industry, this phrase implies that one must have precise knowledge of the needs of the person that they want to serve. So the phrase can also be used when one wants to be "attentive to someone's every need/wish."
》 Meguna/Sukumi: “Look!! There was [someone/something]... From Harima!!”
The text in the JP raws was very vague; it was 「ほらいただろ!!! あの播磨の!」 (Hora itadaro! ! ! Ano Harima no!) which translates as above. Meanwhile, TCB translated this particular dialogue to "Told you!! He's like that guy from Harima!!"
In my opinion, I am leaning more to the official Viz translation because I looked up the "Harima statue" on Google and these particular statues (see below) bear a semblance with Yuuji's facial expression in the last page. And I think the statues actually make the most sense, especially with what Uraume said next about Yuuji's mouth, as compared to if they were talking about a Heian-era person whom only the two of them know. I don't think Gege would do us dirty like that for not getting the joke.
— “Never Mind Mind” (2013), by Midori Harima
Closing words: “Even if you're being mocked, never forget that rage.”
—
Comments: As always, I never claimed to be a professional translator. My JP understanding is still amateurish but I hope yall will allow me to share my own insights on certain dialogues just so we can learn and understand each other’s interpretations, and also to kindly correct me wherever I had been wrong. Thank you!

We all complained so much about there being too much filler that now they got rid of it completely.
Like, for example, with Hazbin. I liked this show a lot and I can honestly say that each episode was great - but that's the problem. We don't need only great, plot-heavy episodes. We need those stupid episodes that have shitty silly songs and that have the characters doing the most random shit together. We NEED filler to see these characters properly. Like, objectively, I can tell that by episode 8 all the residents of the hotel (besides Alastor) were friends - but I didn't see them become such outside of those plot-necessary episodes. I didn't see Angel and Sir Pentious hanging out or even fight together in the third episode because it wasn't plot necessary. We didn't see Huskerdust develop outside of episode four. We didn't see Charlie and Vaggie go on a date. We didn't see the other residents stalking them on said date (they absolutely would have). We didn't see Alastor and Rosie gossip like old ladies over tea. We didn't see Charlie and Emily going to that zoo and Charlie hugging a koala. We are TOLD about these things, which is exactly why they fall flat.
And that's just one example! Another could be Jujutsu Kaisen - honestly the most obvious example too. That manga had exactly zero filler. I'm gonna be honest, besides the baseball game and the time the main trio met that girl from Yuuji's highschool, there was no downtime. The show tried to fix that a bit in the first season - we got Juju Stroll at the end of each episode and honestly it was a perfect way to counter Akutami's lack of filler. But they didn't give us that in the second season, which I was pretty bummed about. We lost a lot of characters way too quickly. The only real times we actually saw them interact was when they were working, training or straight up fighting - we were told that they were friends but we were never shown that much.
Back in the day with the first anime gen - when shows like Naruto or Pokemon were coming out, we got A LOT of filler. So much that it became a joke. I mean, there's quite literally a list on how exactly to watch One Piece if you want to avoid all the filler. I think that this specifically - the sheer amount of filler in these popular shows - was what made the industry think that we don't want any filler at all. I mean, everyone knew things like Pokemon or Naruto, no? And everyone complained about the filler eps. And I can admit, the amount that we got back then was way too much. But we still needed SOME. Second Gen did much better on this, was perfect in fact. Well, okay, I'm actually not entirely sure if you consider Black Butler or Blue Exorcist second Gen but I always did so whatever. Like, Blue Exorcist (the anime at least) had a perfect amount of filler to be fair. We're gonna ignore the second half of the first season (I still don't understand what was the point of making up the entire plot??), but first half was GREAT. Like, it had the lore and everything, but we also got those stupid silly episodes like Rin and Yukio trying to make peace with the demon in their kitchen. I love that episode honestly. And even the lore episodes had filler bits! Shima and Rin hanging out on the beach was so much fun to watch. It made me much closer to these characters than seeing them die every other episode ever could.
I'm gonna circle back to JJK here. Like I said, in Jujutsu there is no filler. So the events of the plot are also happening way too quickly to be considered normal. The characters feel a little empty, the relationships fall flat, and there is too much personal info that we have to make up about the characters. Like, I wanted to see the old Jujutsu Tech squad go to that arcade or get ice cream or sneak out of the school grounds way too late into the night. I wanted to see Getou and Gojou sneak out to go flying on Suguru's manta ray before Satoru learned to fly after the whole Toji incident. And I wanted to see the new trio go to the beach with their upperclassmen, I wanted to see them take stupid pictures of each other, go to the cinema, have sleepovers. I didn't just want to be told about these things in the opening or ending sequence. I wanted to SEE them, because then it wouldn't feel so... unsatisfying to see these characters go. Like, I loved Nobara. But we did not get to see enough of her before the wholeshit show happened. We didn't see enough of Getou being a teenager with a genuine love for this world and his friends before he went insane. We didn't see enough. And I'm so upset about this.
We complained and we were left with nothing. I hate this so much.
genuinely one of the worst things that’s happened to television in the last few years (exacerbated by streaming services) is death of Filler. going from 20 episodes to 8 because “we didn’t really need that episode where the main characters went to the beach right? it had no long lasting effect” but we DID!!! we needed to see how they act without the Big Bad Plot and to establish the dynamics between the characters and lay in the sun (do they forget sunscreen? how do they react to a thieving seagull? do they get buried in the sand or do they do the burying?). the plot isn’t everything. the action doesn’t hit as hard without the quiet moments. give us character development and our little scenes back
#i just needed to rant about all of this#when I heard that the pjo show would have so little episodes I almost cried#those books raised me and eight episodes is NOT enough to do them justice#i honestly kinda hated that show but that's a whole other convo that Tumblr isn't read for#like give me filler

Newage Umibozu: Deep depths, deep cuts
I swear I’m not just going to review NewAge stuff I am not one of those people endlessly sucking their co-
Back with another NewAge offering, H43V Umibozu, aka Depth Charge, sees the legends scale company lightly poke Beast Wars with a ten-foot pole to bring the Transmetal 2 season three star to life in a somewhat unconventional fashion.
Before getting into the actual figure, we need a bit of context, partially because the story behind this release is half the fun. Back when the Kingdom line launched and we got the superb G1 Cyclonus, many fans noted that if you turned his spaceship mode around, it kind of resembled a manta ray. This prompted other, more diehard fans to ponder a potential retool to turn the mold into Beast Wars Depth Charge, in a similar vein to the Transformers Collectors Club Hunt For The Decepticons Terradive (whew!) repaint for the same character. While Hasbro passed on such a release, due to a number of different possible reasons, NewAge said “fuck it we ball” and announced Umibozu. If I’m remembering this correctly, he even came out after their initial batch of Cyclonus repaints, due to the fact this deco was inspired specifically by those fan comments. It’s not too dissimilar to how they announced a G2 Tigerstripe Grimlock after the Legacy figure was revealed. They saw there was a market and jumped into it.
Now, on to the actual toy! Depth Charge wears the Cyclonus mold well. His slim, slender form is a bit of a departure from the notoriously bulky original toy, but it does a much nicer job of matching the trimmed down show model. The round forearms help more than you might expect, being one of the few shapes to make a complete carryover. The chest does its job of evoking the originals fish face, and the colors stand bright and proud. The purples and blues are spot on, really helping bring this guy to life. Honestly, I couldn’t ask for much more outside of a wholly new mold, something that MP scale company Transart is planning on tackling.
The transformation meets a similar standard of “clever yet simple” that I’ve experienced with some of their other offerings. The nosecone/tail folds up quite elegantly, and the way the back of his legs reshape themselves is exceptionally well done. There is some partsforming to get him into manta ray mode, but considering the mold wasn’t designed to accommodate such features in the first place it is an unsurprising and not all that bothersome element. My only legitimate complaint about it is that the fins pegs are perhaps a bit too tight, making minor modifications to get them looking just right a tad annoying. The outcome for your efforts looks gorgeous, no matter which way you spin it. The blues and silvers are cleanly separated, with some delightful purple accents at the retooled wingtips. The fins still work just fine for the jet mode, the stylized departure not detracting too much from the jet’s profile or making it feel like it could never work as such, especially not in the world of the transformers. Of course, we all know why they’re really here. With a quick hand transplant and literally just turning the thing around, you’re left with a more than serviceable manta ray. Could they have made a more believable/organic alt mode? Not as easily, but almost absolutely. Did they need to? No. This doesn’t feel “off” compared to the original considering its techno-organic nature. Pro-tip though, scrunch up the nose cone for a better-looking tail.
I know I’ve made a fair amount of comparisons to the original but those are completely based on “feel” of the character and he’s had two toys alright?
Articulation is mostly within NewAges standard, with only one or two gripes holding him back. Starting at the bend in his die-cast toes (not a lost art anymore, huh?), he’s got ankle tilts, a 90° knee bend, thigh swivels, ball jointed hips, accompanying skirt flaps, a waist swivel just because this time, an ab crunch, universal jointed shoulders, and a ball jointed head. His arms can hinge outward at the bicep, mostly for the transformation, but if that’s extended even slightly you can’t use the bicep swivel. His elbows are double jointed, and he comes with a wrist swivel thanks to a pair of alternate hands. You can swivel his forearms if you so wish, but again this is another transformation joint and doesn’t look all that natural most of the time. You’re still more than able to get a wide range of dynamic, expressive poses out of him, but the arms are left just a bit cumbersome. Accessories are kept fairly light, with the manta ray fins, a pair of open hands to really sell some of those poses, and a blaster that he can have a bit of trouble holding dead on due to the shape of his arms.
As a new Beast Wars Depth Charge, this obviously falls short, but as a pre-earth Cybertronian Depth Charge? It hits every mark it needs to. It comes in looking stunning and executes the idea presented perfectly. Regardless of whatever flaws the figure may have, it sets out with a concept and completely nails it. This is, I believe, NewAge at their best. Not strictly adhering to cartoon accuracy cMph Devastator, but taking liberties and creating something new. Both this and H60W Mimic (reviewed here!) revive the long-begotten Hasbro days of turning whatever into whoever. We simply don’t get as many imaginative repaints as we used to, despite the apparent rising tooling costs. Gone are the times when we’d regularly get the likes of ROTF Deadend, Energon Tradbolt, Armada Airazor, or nearly the entirety of the Universe 2003 line. There are plenty more examples with convention exclusives and the like, even Depth Charges second actual figure was exclusive to the Transformers Collectors Club, but those have always specifically been more specialized and niche, as well as impossible to get your hands on nowadays. There is one I’ll need to take a look at though… thankfully I won’t have to go on a complete rampage to find it.

What do you think of the New twisted wonderland event, I saw some of the gameplay, I can't read Japanese but I didn't care I really wanted to see it and so far I really like it
I’ve only played a little bit of the story so far, but just based on what I’ve already seen, I think it’s cute! ^^
I thought that Port Fest would be focused on exploring Sam’s hometown (Jubilee Port) via a musical celebration, but what we got is also fun! I wasn’t expecting the boys to be running food stalls (it gives me mad Food Wars vibes) and also putting on a musical performance, but I like to focus on food 🤤 I’m a big fan of food, so I’m actually more excited about that than the musical portion of the festival.
I’m looking forward to seeing what each team (A through E) ends up preparing! Since they’re split up by class (ie all the 1-A, 2-A, and 3-A kids are in team A, all the 1-B, 2-B, and 3-B kids are in team B, etc.), we have some pretty interesting character dynamics to look at. RIP team E though, Lilia’s the leader 😭 for a FOOD stall (probably because Trey, the other third year in the group, didn’t step up)???? AND THEN THEY GOT JADE TOO, this man might just toss in weirdo poison mushrooms into whatever they serve… Team E’s about to poison so many festival goers—)
Speaking of food!! fjsbsjdbienzks I like that Ruggie is super motivated to participate in the festival because of money and food 😌 Very relatable!
We see Rook being a helpful upperclassman by advising Jack when he’s frustrated to seek out someone he admires god why did it have to be L*ona for help. I feel like I haven’t seen Rook do or say that much that’s noteworthy yet, so I hope that he gets something more interesting for me to chew on later.
I don’t really care for Jack as a character, but I like that he’s able to be forthcoming about his weaknesses and listen to others’ advice in this event. Jack is big and tough looking, but he’s also capable of showing respect to others and being vulnerable with some of his emotions. I also like the idea of Jack wanting to treat Ruggie at a restaurant; he’s a very good boi to pay for his upperclassman ✨
That part where Jack and Epel argue about whether pears or apples are the better fruit reminds me of MLP: Friendship id Magic 😂 (There was literally a whole episode where apple farming ponies and pear farming ponies had the same argument for several generations…)
Floyd gets to show off his musical genius here! (I think it’s important that we see this because the fandom consistently acts like Floyd is dumb, but he’s actually a prodigy that’s very selective about when he wants to make an effort 😅) We also get Floyd’s nickname for Crowley: Manta Ray-sensei! djsbejdbkdke I think of that teacher/school bus (?) manta ray from Finding Nemo.
Those are my miscellaneous thoughts for now! I’ll probably have more to say when I’ve played more of this event.

It's my friend's first time watching Moana, but it's like my third or fourth time
And I was like "yeah be prepared to cry"
She literally didn't cry 😐. I'm the only one who is a sobbing mess 😐
It's always the grandma scene that hits me. During the I Am Moana song the grandma came back as a manta ray spirit and omg I lose it
I don't know if it's cos I'm veeery close to my grandmother, but I feel a sharp pain cos I can't imagine losing my grandmother
but at the same time I feel comforted when I saw Moana's grandmother come back as a manta ray???
^ watching a movie at 2am is supposed to be relaxing, but my eyes are puffy and sore now 😐
Why am I even crying??? I literally know what's gonna happen

NEUVILLETTE ♡ GN!READER
@2024gisecretsanta gift for @aquatik !! ♡ i hope you enjoy this piece, and happy holidays!!!
it was so fun to participate in this event ^^ thank u to the hosts and everyone involved for making this so special!!
Neuvillette has always noticed you.
But he notices a lot of things; like the musk of the earth after it rains, like the light that dapples the campus sidewalk, seeping in between the gaps of the leaves. Neuvillette notices a lot of things, some more than others—he muses, nearly tripping over an uneven slab of the concrete floor, periwinkle eyes fixated on nothing but—
You, similarly to him, are stumbling through the crowd. You, unlike him, are entranced in your own world, eyes darting to and fro, searching amongst the sea of people while he has only ever searched for you. There are too many people in this world, Neuvillette thinks, for him to notice every one. So he notices only one. He notices—
You return his gaze (and Neuvillette feels something shiver in his chest), your lips tugging into a smile (and Neuvillette thinks the sun has shifted, that the sun has reworked itself, tunnelling all its light towards you), your figure suddenly coming closer (and Neuvillette thinks that there is nothing left; he is complete; he is yours absolutely and that is enough).
You return his gaze. You look at him! Oh, you see him! Neuvillette thinks, This is it, this must be it. This—this…
(What is it? Neuvillette is no longer capable of thought. He is no longer sentient. He looks at you, and something slams against his ribs: this-is this-is this-is…)
“Neuvillette! I was looking for you!” you exclaim, your voice occupying his mind for much longer than it does the air. Your voice—its unfathomable timbre, its incomparable and fantastical sound! It’s enough, it’s enough!
Neuvillette opens his mouth to respond. There’s a word. He feels himself about to vomit. He feels it: the rush, the suffocation, the gag and the swallow and before he can utter it into existence he clamps his lips shut. There’s a word—or maybe three, or maybe there is no word, nothing in verbal language that is enough to liken your unutterable radiance.
(What is it? The three words? The rush, the suffocation, the gag and the breathlessness? Neuvillette feels it sinking down his throat, ebbing, reduced from a violent blare to nothing more than a whisper, it goes…)
“[Name],” Neuvillette acknowledges. Maybe, that is enough. “May I ask why?”
Why are you looking for him? Why are you searching for him? Neuvillette wants to hear you say it for himself, to hear the words—which are, after all, nothing more than words—in your fantastical and wonderful timbre. He wants to hear you speak his name—which is just a word, which is just his surname—to feel the revelation, the awakening, the surge!
“Just because,”—you say, and maybe that’s enough—”I was wondering if you had any plans over the weekend?”
Neuvillette blinks, astonished. Your smile is unwavering, your eyes—your eyes! Neuvillette briefly looks away. The image remains with him still; the color, the glint, the fraction of the sun that is vested within your soul. Neuvillette looks at you, your image devoured by periwinkle.
“I don’t,” he replies. (He had promised Furina that he’d help her with her case study.) Momentarily, his gaze averts from yours. (He had told one of his professors that he’d volunteer during office hours—who was it, again?) The lie is bitter on his tongue; but Neuvillette isn’t lying. (He’s going to send an email to the professor later, once he remembers who he promised.) Your expression glows. (Maybe this is enough.) Your gentle smile evolves into an excited grin. (He’s going to have to draft a text to Furina, too.) This is enough.
“That’s great!” You reach for your bag, sifting through the various pockets, your hand emerging with two humble, paper tickets. “I won a raffle for aquarium tickets! Do you want to come with?”
He’s whole. He’s complete. This—this is it! This is the surge, the rush, the incomparable and unutterable word! Neuvillette feels it now; the spasm of his heart, the stutter of his throat, the shrink of his figure when you do so much as perceive him!
Your gaze sinks into his skin. Neuvillette lets it. Your smile sears his brain. Neuvillette replays it. You blink. Neuvillette’s heart follows.
(Do you ever realize the way he lives? The way he finds meaning only ever because it dances within you?)
This-is-this-is-this-is…
“I would love to,” he replies, unable to contain the smile that tugs at his lips, the smolder in his chest, the primal constriction of his lungs, heaving, desperate to breathe the air you exist in. A breath! A tinge! A fraction of your incomparable existence! This-is-this-is-this-is…
(Neuvillette wonders if you caught it: the word. The word, although pale in comparison, assigns meaning to the enormity that swells within him, the colossal creature, the colossal completion, the vitality; you! Oh, you! When he cannot say your name, he must say this word; this—this fraction, this tiny, insignificant thing: love, love, love! You, you, you!)
“Really?” you say, eyes growing wide. Your lips hang slightly agape, your expression wild and fantastical and bright (Neuvillette thinks this is it); but the shock dissipates into that of utter joy (Neuvillette thinks this is it), and you grin that grin of yours. That grin, (Neuvillette wipes his sweaty palms against the fabric of his dress pants), a simple little something that amounts into an enormous everything.
“Of course.” Neuvillette knows that this is it. What else, if not this?
You look at him. His heart surges, his veins beginning to flare, his arteries spasming, flowing without an ebb, overwhelmed and incomparable (Neuvillette doesn’t need to return your gaze; he was already looking at you), insignificant and worldly.
All you have to do is look at him! All you have to do is perceive him!
“Does noon work for you?”
Any time works, Neuvillette thinks, any time at all. You could ask for him at four in the morning and Neuvillette would respond; you could stir him from his sleep, from his stupor, from his life. (Take him! Take him from his life! Take him, already!)
“Yes,” Neuvillette says, unable to contain the waver of his voice, the way his fingers instinctively reach to fiddle with his sleeves, “that’s perfect.”
You look away. His heart surges, his veins beginning to flare, his arteries spasming, ebbing without flow, overwhelmed and incomparable (Neuvillette wishes you would look at him; he wishes you would perceive him, for just a moment will do), insignificant and worldly.
“Alright,” you say, grinning. “Noon it is.”
This-is-this-is-this-is…
It is, Neuvillette thinks. This is it.
Neuvillette has an unspoken routine.
Every day, he wakes up at six, even if he has no morning classes. Every day, he takes a morning walk around the city, admiring the most mundane of sights, like the glow of the lamplights, reflecting off puddles that congregate along sidewalks, like the airplane that soars by, smoke trailing in its wake.
Every day, he returns to his apartment and drinks a warm cup of water. Every day, he opens his laptop, and he sifts through his inbox, responding to different emails and updating his calendar accordingly.
Every day, he saves a slot for you. Today, he fills it in officially; the weekend; the aquarium; noon.
Every day, Neuvillette shuts his laptop, and he takes a sip of his warm water, and he thinks. Sometimes, he thinks about legal cases. Sometimes, he thinks about assignments that are due. Sometimes, he doesn’t have any thoughts at all.
But every time, he thinks of you. You weave yourself into his daily routine, the legal cases and the assignments. You appear! Even when you’re not there; even when he hasn’t seen you in a couple days, you’re terribly real and terribly vivid.
And somehow, despite everything, you’re unfathomable. (But Neuvillette fathoms you so often, so poignantly, it’s as if you’re tangible. As if you’re worldly when all you have ever been, to him, was esoteric. Unable to be comprehended. Unable to be conjured within thought, in any comparable magnitude to the colossal vitality that is, so undoubtedly, real. So, undoubtedly, you.)
Today, Neuvillette dons his finest coat. He fits the warmest scarf around his neck. He pats his pockets, and he adjusts his wristwatch—what time is it, again? He looks down—ten o’clock, he should start leaving now.
The door to his apartment swings open. Neuvillette glances up.
“Neuvillette?” Wriothesley remarks, shrugging off his work uniform haphazardly, strands of his obsidian hair sticking to his skin. “You’re still here?”
“Wriothesley,” Neuvillette acknowledges, “indeed, I am.”
“That’s a surprise,” Wriothesley says, pale blue eyes drifting over Neuvillette’s outfit. “What’s the occasion?”
Neuvillette coughs into his fisted hand.
“I’m meeting with [Name] later.”
“Ah,” Wriothesley replies, smirking, “that adds up.”
Neuvillette has never considered himself to be transparent, but at the same time, he has never made it an effort to be enigmatic. But the knowing look that Wriothesley gives him is enough to make Neuvillette wonder: has he always been so plainly obvious?
Then, he thinks of you. Have you noticed how plainly obvious Neuvillette is? Have you known all along, yet never brought it up in an effort to spare his feelings?
(Have you ever wanted—for just a fraction, for just a moment—him to be so obvious? Have you ever looked at him—and held his image within your irises—when he hasn’t been looking at you (Which Neuvillette thinks, frankly, that’s impossible; he’s always looking at you)? Have you—have…)
Wriothesley chuckles. “Don’t think too hard about it. Who knows,”—he shrugs, his expression unreadable—“maybe you’ll be in for a surprise.”
Wriothesley has always known more than what he lets on; it’s just in his nature, as a part-time security guard and a student of criminal justice.
He has never been wrong, Neuvillette thinks—his mind shifts. His mind forms an image, vivid and bright and fantastical; it’s you.
This time, however, he might be. Neuvillette thinks Wriothesley’s implications are outlandish. How could he expect a surprise from you, when you already do so much as exist?
Still, Neuvillette replies, “Maybe.”
There’s a magic that follows after your existence. It’s like the petrichor that swarms the earth after it rains; like the inevitable belief that night follows after day; like the certainty that vests within time; the fact that tomorrow will come, the fact that you are, despite everything, real. It’s unfathomable, really. Your existence.
And Neuvillette has wondered when everything began, when the world started to shift, when the sun became more than the sun: when it became you. Maybe, it started when he was your partner in a group project back in physics class (which he barely managed to pass with your late-night tutoring and guidance). Maybe, it started when he realized that you were there throughout everything—through the years of his worst, when he loathed everyone, when he had no love in his heart, when the most mundane of things remained as they were: mundane.
Maybe, it doesn’t matter when things begin. All that matters is that they exist now.
“I should get going,” Neuvillette says, taking another peek at his watch.
Wriothesley nods. “Have fun. Let me know if there are any breakthroughs.”
Neuvillette blinks, echoing, “Breakthroughs?”
Wriothesley flashes another one of those knowing expressions. This time, all he offers is a hum. And this time, Neuvillette doesn’t pry; he gives in. Neuvillette does a lot of that—he thinks of you—giving in, and pressing onwards, and living in the unknown despite the answer being right—he thinks of you—in front of him.
He arrives at the subway station an hour and a half before noon. Neuvillette sneaks another glance at his wristwatch, thinking, I’m right on time. After taking a seat on a nearby bench, Neuvillette begins to observe, periwinkle gaze drifting across the sea of people, anchorless and free, his senses reborn as the world reincarnates anew. The air is crisp, the cold stinging the tip of his nose, puffs of condensation escaping his parted lips—Neuvillette feels everything. The fabric against his skin; the surge of life; the rush of the passerby; the frantic and erratic breath that life exhales with each gust of wind.
“Neuvillette!” a voice pierces the crowd, passing through the canal of his ear and stabbing cleanly through his heart. Although it’s just a sound, Neuvillette hears it wholly: the timbre, the tone, the familiarity of his name (which is, after all, not even his first name), the way the syllables sound sacred (and Neuvillette must attribute the fragility to the owner of the voice, not the name) despite it being uttered many times before.
This-is-this-is-this-is… You. You!
At your call, Neuvillette stands. His hands, unsure of what to do, reach for the sleeves of his coat, fiddling with the hem while his gaze fixates on you. Once more, periwinkle drowns in your figure. Once more, the world is right.
“[Name],” Neuvillette replies, unable to contain the gentle smile that possesses his lips. “You’re early.”
You laugh. “You’re earlier!”
“Yes,” he admits—this-is-this-is-this-is—“you’re right.”
The subway ride to the aquarium is peaceful. Neuvillette couldn’t have asked for anything else, because there you were, and there was the world, and there was the sun, and there you were, and—oh, did he mention that already?
Neuvillette thinks you were the most wonderful of them all. You; your eyes, focused on the scenery outside. You; your voice, dipped into a whisper as you speak of precious little nothings which, to Neuvillette, seem to be worth everything.
You’re radiant. Fantastically so. Neuvillette has this realization time and time again. Every time periwinkle swallows your image, and every time his heart shivers at the proximity of your presence, Neuvillette is made aware of how colossally significant you are. You’re like the world. Sublime. Wondrous.
“Neuvillette,” you suddenly say, and Neuvillette feels his ribs shudder. “Thank you for coming with me today.”
He swallows thickly—the way you say his name; oh, the way you, the way you—somehow, he finds his voice, breathing out, “It is my pleasure.”
“Neuvillette!”—and there you go again, calling his name, unaware of the spasm of his heart, the binding of his lungs—“come over here! Look, these are whale sharks!”
Oh, that’s right, Neuvillette thinks, this is your domain. Before he can open his mouth to respond, you usher him in the direction of the spotted creature, its wide mouth stretched agape while it drifts throughout the blue waters, followed by a squad of smaller fish.
“Those are remoras,” you explain, “they attach themselves to sharks and feed off of parasites that grow on the shark’s skin.”
Oh, Neuvillette thinks, noticing the glimmer of your eyes under the aquatic light, noticing the way your words begin to slur together out of sheer excitement, unable to keep up with the tempo of your thoughts.
You’re beautiful.
“What are those?” Neuvillette asks, pointing towards the manta rays.
“Those are manta rays!” you exclaim. “Like the whale shark, they’re filter feeders!”
“What does that mean?” Neuvillette queries. “To be a filter feeder?”
“It means both whale sharks and manta rays filter out the free-floating plankton drift in the water!” you say, and oh, Neuvillette thinks you look ethereal. This is your domain; the great ocean; the blue light; the knowledge; the passion. You own the sea. The world. Oh, the world!
“Did you know manta rays don’t have skeletons? They’re made of cartilage.”
“No, I didn’t,” Neuvillette replies, despite knowing that fact from the plethora of articles he read about marine life a couple days back. Neuvillette didn’t want to seem ignorant in front of you, a marine biology major, but at the same time, he thinks this is a much better alternative.
This-is-this-is-this-is…
You smile at him. “It’s all good! I go to this aquarium pretty often, so I know a thing or two.”
You’re lying, Neuvillette thinks. You know more than just a “thing or two.” You know—you know everything, it seems!
(Still, Neuvillette doesn’t pry. He does a lot of that, he supposes—he thinks of you—in your presence, and with the realization—he thinks of you—that you are, unbelievably, here. Tangible. With him. With him!)
Neuvillette wishes he could bottle this moment and keep it forever.
He observes this aquarium through your gaze, measuring all the creatures with the same joy that you hold them to, learning all there is about different fin types and different species groups. Orcas are not fish, they are marine mammals—Neuvillette knew that too, from an article titled “What Are Orcas Truly?”—sharks breathe by swimming and passing oxygenated water through their gills—Neuvillette learned that fact last night from a video titled “Sharks Sleep While Moving!”
If he weren’t a law major, Neuvillette thinks he would’ve gone into marine biology, too. (And he wonders what it’d be like, to have the same classes as you, to be able to share this knowledge with you, to be able to discuss marine life on a higher level than the rudimentary facts you’re forced to share with him, who is unfamiliar with this world.)
Neuvillette wishes that he knew more than what he knew. He wishes he could crawl into your brain and adore the ocean with the same passion that you have. He wishes he could share your struggles with strict lab professors, and discuss answers after difficult quizzes—but the boundary between your major and his is too large. He knows nothing. He can say nothing. He is nothing. So he opts to remain silent and stare.
Can he ever return to this moment again? You; the blue light; the whale sharks; the manta rays; the world! Can he ever revisit this aquarium? Will you ever want to go with him again? Will you speak to him in the same, lovely voice? Will you call his name with the same, lovely timbre?
Oh, Neuvillette wants! He wants! He wants this moment! This aquarium! You!
His heart shudders.
This-is-this-is-this-is…
And the moment is ending. Everything returns to where it started. Neuvillette finds himself on the subway once more, sitting by your side, watching you watch the window, the sun setting in the horizon, the day slipping away.
He wants to bottle this: the pink hues, the orange glimmer, the blue memory, the aquarium, you. He wants to grasp this scene and slip it into his wallet, like a charm, like a reminder of the world and all that has meaning. He looks at you. He wants—and he stops there, because he’s overstepping his boundaries and that’s too much to ask for.
A yawn escapes your lips, you apologize, muttering, “Sorry, I’m a little tired right now.”
Neuvillette notices the lull of your head, the flutter of your lashes as you struggle to stay awake.
“It’s alright.” His leg begins to bounce, his fingers reaching to fiddle with the hems of his sleeves once more. “If I may offer my shoulder, if you would, um… In case you would like to rest.”
Although you don’t seem to mind, or notice, the filler word that slips into his speech, Neuvillette is already questioning himself, berating his sudden inability to speak, reduced to nothing in your colossal presence. For how could he ever amount to anything if you are already everything?
“Thank you, Neuvillette.”
His heart lurches. His lungs heave. His brain falters, unable to form any coherent thought that isn’t composed, in its entirety, you.
Your eyes flutter shut, and your head comes to rest against his shoulder, and Neuvillette thinks—while his leg bounces up and down, mad—that, if he could, he would bottle this moment, and—while his breath shutters, coming to a stop—and, and he would preserve it. And he would love it. This light; this subway; this world; you. Forever.
Neuvillette has always noticed you. From the moment his periwinkle eyes first beheld your existence, from the moment the world incarnated anew, from the moment—which he wishes he could bottle—your gaze dawned upon him, when dusk dawned upon the two of you, when everything dissipated into darkness, he noticed you then. Even without sight. Even without speech. Even without his senses.
He notices you now, too. He notices the way your brow furrows when the sun’s light slips across your face, the world illuminating and perceiving your irrevocable beauty. He notices the way you turn away slightly, burying your face into the fabric of his coat, trying to escape the radiance which pales in comparison to your own.
His hand comes up to block the sun. Your expression eases. Your breathing evens out and the world is right again.
This-is-this-is-this-is…
Neuvillette rests his head against yours, his touch featherlight—the bounce of his leg comes to a stop—his lungs pausing, capturing the breath which holds the essence of your existence—and the moment is preserved—and the final incarnation is complete.
This is…
The sun’s final light disappears. The moment is over.
Neuvillette feels your head against his. A new moment starts.
And he supposes—without much deliberation—and he thinks—and he has thought this, for the longest of times—that this is love.
(This is enough.)
