Beast of autumn crowned by the sun, let temperance forge your heart into steel, stronger than which came before you.
Each of they, a chain made by blood, amongst them you have to lead. amongst them, the burden must fall on you.
What once was War's banner became that of famine, soldiers trained from bogs instead of silk, hulking masses of flesh and bone, their weapons held without grace. their stances without form.
but such is the nature of hunger. to persevere despite being starved.

"" This is the Thanks I get "" is Technically a Bad Villain song but imo its not for the Reasons people often say it is.
youtube
first off I actually love this song lol I know a couple of lines of Dialogue are wonky but Regardless I love it I think its a fun song
it shows a Narcissistic Villain being so enjoyably full of himself and slowly losing his mind Towards the end before eventually just completely giving in to his full on meltdown
and I've listened to it loads of times I think it is just a pretty fun Villain song however I do admit that Technically it is a Bad Villain song.
but the Reasons that people often state why aren't why I think it doesn't work when Hearing criticism of this song most people just state the clunky Dialogue such as "" I let you live here for free and I don't even charge you rent ""
and they say that they think the song sounds too cheery and not very sinister for the most part and like it doesn't really sound like a villain song
especially not when compared to past Disney villain songs such as Hellfire or Be Prepared or Friends on the other side
but the Reasons I feel it Technically isn't a good villain song is because it simply does not fit with the character Magnifico was established to be at the start
he was a slightly full of himself but mostly Humble powerful leader who did the things that he did out of fear of losing his home due to a great Trauma of having lost his old home and his entire family when he was younger
he was a more understandable sympathetic ends justify the means kind of villain who's side the audience could understand to an extent even if we know he's still wrong in what he does
so a song like this doesn't fit his established character as like I said its fun and upbeat as it shows a very narcissistic petty person slowly losing his mind over not getting what he believes he deserves
from people and thus in an act of extreme pettiness resorts to using a dangerous dark magic book to gain back control of the situation
this song seems like it should be for an entirely different character
its like if the lion king established in the first half that Scar is Bitter and Resentful towards his Brother
and doesn't care about him or his nephew at all and only cares about the power and respect he believes he Deserves
only for his villain song later on to be The Plagues from Prince of Egypt where suddenly Scar is portrayed as a stoic and conflicted villain
who loves his Brother and Nephew so much and Hates that he has to be on opposing sides to them but he feels he has no choice.
my point is it just ignores the kind of villain he was set up as earlier in the movie the version of Magnifico they set up in the first Half
feels like he should have a more somber slow and quiet villain song imo where he maybe calmly sings to himself about how much he loves his home and his people and of course his wife
and as he slowly starts Remembering the Tragedy that befell his old Home the song turns more Desperate with Magnifico clearly trying to Block the idea out of his mind
that this new threat to the kingdom could cause the same outcome and maybe he actively tries to talk himself out of using the dark magic book
trying to convince himself History won't Repeat itself but the song turns straight up Horror with us seeing big flashes of Magnifico's old Home
being Burned to the Ground and his loved ones Ripped away from him that he loses the calm cool composure he had at the start of the song
and becomes more and more terrified and thus Desperate that he resorts to using the book corrupting himself further but its portrayed as much more scary and also tragic.
just an idea.
so yeah like I said that's why I feel the song Technically isn't a good villain song in the story of the film even tho I do love it and I listen to it all the time
it can be pretty fun to sing along and act a little full of yourself lol.

Helpless To Defy His Fate: The Sountrack
Here's the music that inspired each chapter of my fanfiction, songs that go nicely with what I've written and a look into my creative process while writing
Chapter 1
El Tango De Roxane from Moulin Rouge
I'm not a fan of this musical or the canon story behind this song but I know I'm not alone in this attachment to this song. This song gave me a vision of Nandor betrayed by Guillermo by his act of violence. He's devastated. I was specifically inspired by the tiktok videos that combine Roxanne and the Plauges from The Prince of Egypt. At this point, the story in my head was like this opera style drama that's full of love, loss and pain. Nandor is the one who's heart is crying.
The Ballad of Jane Doe from Ride The Cyclone
I wanted to capture feeling this song gave more than the actual story in this song. I thought about Laszlo and his feelings of betrayal as he's quickly dying. He doesn't have time to process that he's dying. It's tragic. It really is an unfair death. I guess the Fall Fair Suite fits too but this song was a bigger influence
Bright Eyes by Art Garfunkel
This is one of the songs that I think fits Nandor's grief. He's struggling to process the fact Laszlo is dead and that Guillermo killed him.
CH 2
Sad Song by We The Kings
This captures Nadja's grief perfectly. The entire song is how she feels about Laszlo dying. At this point in writing this fic was an exploration of grief and how each of these characters would experience it. I didn't have a Nandermo arc in mind quite yet. I didn't expect this fic to be longer than two chapters. It's was a impulsive idea I wanted to write down. I wanted to write drama and angst for no reason but catharsis and enjoyment.
My Immortal by Evenessance
This was something I listened to while I was writing and thinking about Colin's Grief. He used to comfort Laszlo and learning about Laszlo's abusive home when he was young concerned him. Laszlo grieved him once and now Colin is grieving him. It's ironic. Also I was somewhat influenced by BCR's love for Evenessence and Papa Roach.
Look Who's Inside Again by Bo Burnam
This one was a huge influence on how I wrote Colin Robinson in this fanfiction. Laszlo was someone who gave Colin Robinson friendship when he was desperate to be understood and tired of being forgotten. He was happy and confident. When the one person that understood Colin better than anyone else in his life died he felt alone and insecure again. He struggled to reach out to the people around him and feel into a severe depression that kept him in his bed with no one to feed on but the cruelty of the internet. Colin Robinson is generally the comic relied character. "It's hard to be funny while stuck in a room". He usually enjoys telling his friends dumb jokes but now he's struggling to feel any joy at all. Draining online was a treat but in this situation it made him feel worse and left him feeling like shit
Chapter 3
Flying Dreams from The Secret of NIMH
Chapter 3 was just a sickfick/hurt&comfort I just wanted to write something nice and wholesome and cuddly after all the pain and truama that happened in the previous chapters. This chapter is the calm before the storm in a way. The scene where Nandor is helping Colin Robinson drink its tea was directly inspired by that scene in Secret of Nimh. There's a big emphasis on familial and platonic affection and love in the second half of this chapter.
That's the only song I had in mind for this chapter. The rest was just character interaction with my OC Desdemona. She wasn't originally going to be in this chapter but I really liked the idea of Nandor speaking to it. I think in a less grim timeline they would fuck at least once lol. There's so much grief going around I needed to put Desdemona in this fic, she eats that energy up. I'm glad I decided to it really helped me get a strong sense of its character.
Chapter 4
Bohemian Rapsody by Queen
I had this song already in mind while I was working on chapter 3. I knew I wanted to write Guillermo into this fever dream of guilt and self loathing. I wanted to go into the uncanny territory of weirdness. The part in his dream where Nadja kills Guillermo is directly inspired by an alternate ending proposed by @/ednacrabapple in which Nandor teaches Nadja to swordfight ti kill Guillermo. The twist would be she wouldn't be able to do it and suddenly Nandor gets the confidence to kill him. The lyrics that that inspired me the most where these:
I see a little silhouetto of a man,
Scaramouch, Scaramouch, will you do the Fandango!
Thunderbolts and lightning, very, very frightening me
He's just a poor boy from a poor family,
Spare him his life from this monstrosity
Beelzebub has a devil put aside for me, for me,
For meee
So you think you can stop me and spit in my eye
So you think you can love me and leave me to die
Oh, baby, can't do this to me, baby,
Just gotta get out, just gotta get right outta here
Also in the beginning we see the death from Guillermo's perspective. "Momma, life has just begun but now I've gone and thrown it all away." Guillermo is new to being a vampire and now that's been completely ruined by his murderous tendencies.
No Way Out from Brother Bear
This is one of the movies I took inspiration from for this fanfiction. I wanted to find stories that had similar stories of murder, guilt and forgiveness. I needed to make sure it was obvious that Guillermo lives in guilt and fear. Everyone else has a warped perception of him and believe he's killing for fun. I needed write the opposing perspective in this story.
Oh Miss Believer by Twenty One Pilots
There were three songs that inspired how I wrote nandermo in this chapter. This song is a love letter to Guillermo. Guillermo is scared and helpless. He's in a deep depression and struggling to carry on. Nandor is scared for Guillermo's life and while he addresses that Guillermo has done terrible things he wants to protect him some how. This chapter is when you start to see that Nandor and Guillermo are psychically linked to each other in a very literaral sense. They can feel and read each other's thoughts without knowing they are. They know the worst is yet to come and they're fearful.
Talking to Moon by Bruno Mars
This describes Nandor's feelings. He wants Guillermo badly against the better judgment of everyone else around him.
Aftermath by Lifehouse
Throughout the story Nandor and Nadja grow closer as lovers. Their feelings and actions change into something romantic. They're both traumatized and as a result hold onto each other because they're scared of losing one another. Despite the grief they feel warmth with one another.
Wisdom of Snow by Trans Siberian Orchestra
This song is from the album The Lost Christmas Eve and acts as the contemplative buffer between the old man's confrontation with his past and his emotional breakthrough. This chapter is foreboding and foreshadows what the next few chapters have in store. This song is also what I titled chapter 4. It wad a last minute decision I made while trying to come up with a good title that wasn't stale.
Chapter 5
Hayloft by Mother Mother
The idea that Sean should hunt down Guillermo to kill him as revenge was inspired by a conversation I had with @/2offayyo-kzt. Sean is angry and grieved his lover Laszlo was killed unfairly. He believes murder is the answer.
An eye for an eye, a leg for a leg
A shot in the heart doesn't make it unbreak
She really didn't wanna make it messy
She really, really didn't, but the girl gone cray
Christmas (baby please come home)
I never planned for Simon to be in this fic but I started to think about how Simon would react to Laszlo's absence. It was a joke idea and then I thought a brief moment of comedy in this fic was what the story needed. While I was brainstorming I had found this tiktok and got this idea. I thought it would be fun to write Simon being trapped in this cheery environment while his heart has just been shattered to pieces. It's painfully ironic. Unlike the other songs in this soundtrack this one is diagetic. It's both taunting Simon and describes his feelings. He's desperate to see Laszlo again and he wants Laszlo to be home again more than anything.
Cause I remember when you were here
And all the fun we had last year
This line is in reference to Go Flip Yourself
The song repeats over and over "baby please come home" which is how desperate Simon is to be with Laszlo again.
Story of My Life by One Direction
This was a very risky decision I made while writing this fic. To me in only felt natural that Nadja would go through some kind of emotional journey during this time of grief. I just really wanted to write the moment that Nadja's ghost dissappears. It's like self reflection. This song is Nadja's first step into accepting Laszlo is gone. She begins to acknowledge the happy moments she had with Laszlo.
Sugarcloud from Ride The Cyclone
Nadja and her ghost have alot in common but I suspect there's dissonance when it comes to Laszlo. Nadja doll never got to meet Laszlo and doesn't quite understand what Nadja sees in him. She didn't get to experience falling in love with Laszlo. Nadja's ghost is under the impression that her life was a waste and her legacy is dependent on what she's known as in the vampire world. Nadja is obsessed with her reputation and strives for success to the point she neglects her own joy and falls into burnout. As Nadja recalls her life spent with Laszlo they both come to the realization that she doesn't need to prove her existence to anyone. Just being alive is enough and not having a grand legacy doesn't make her worthless. She'd undead but it still applies lol.
The way I see it Nadja became one with her ghost. She's no longer haunted by her childhood or insecurities. She's finally made peace with her truamas and allowing herself to rest. The reason she's taking up a small hobby earlier in the chapter is because she's trying to learn how to relax and just do something because it's fun and not to be good at it.
Chapter 6
One of Us from The Lion King 2
Months before I decided to write this fanfic I was already obsessed with the idea of the three vampire from the 2014 movie passing judgement to Guillermo. They would struggle to feel any compassion for him and only feel fear and hate for something dangerous they can't understand. I would listen to this imagining the potential conflict between the the three vampires and the main characters in the series on the topic of Guillermo. I always envisioned Nandor being the Nala sitting on the sidelines with everyone against his plea to spare Guillermo. Most characters see Guillermo as a threat and feel hurt by him. I specifically feel that this line fits Simon.
Someone once lied to us
Now we're not so blind!
& by Tally Hall
Guillermo has to face vampiric law and its very vicious and cruel. There's lots of tension and a significant lack of understanding.
When the golden rule and the jungle meet
There'll be nothing to love and there'll be no one to beat.
Oh, the things we know, the things we don't
Oh, the things we think, we can, will and won't
[CW: flashing in clip ] Hungover in the City of Dust by Autoheart
I'll be honest while I was writing the last two of this fic I wasn't in the best state mentally and at the time I'm writing this I don't feel any better. I let that feeling inspire how I wrote Guillermo. It was like a strange form of catharsis projecting all my hopeless thoughts and frustrations onto Guillermo. Guillermo is having the worst night of his life and he's barely keeping it together.
The Trial by Pink Floyd
While the title of this chapter is accurate to what happens its also referring to this song. Guillermo is in a cage being accused of his crimes but he's also at war with his own self loathing. Viago is this symbol of vampiric class and acts downright patronizing to him.
Hells Comin With Me
Simon wasn't supposed to return but I grew to love the idea that it was Simon who told the Vampiric Council about Guillermo crimes and arrest him. I wanted to play into the fact that Simon is a character that tends to return when we least expect it in canon. Now he's back and full of righteous anger.
I am the righteous hand of God
And I am the devil that you forgot
While I was writing this fic I was fleshing out my headcannons for Simon since he's a half baked character at the moment. I got this idea that Simon had this catholic past when he was alive and it sticks with him a bit as a vampire. One way is his shape-shifting abilities, when under high stress or anger, forms into something others would compare to a biblically accurate angel. It's something that would deeply scare Guillermo, who already has religious truama.
SURPRISE! A DELETED SCENE! :D
Bloom from Joseph King of Dreams
This was deleted due to pacing issues and it just felt out of place. This would take place after the trial with Guillermo telling The Barron everything. The Barron feels sorrowful yet sympathetic. He's not proud of who had been in the past and for thinking he was above all of mankind. He had changed and he believes Guillermo can grow from this too.
You've seen the damage words can do
When full of thoughtless pride
Now heed the wiser voice in you
That calls to be your guide
One Normal Night from The Addams Family the musical
I'm not a huge fan of this musical. I feel like it misses the point of The Addams Family, which is radical acceptance in a conservative society. However I do love the artists and editors who show their favorite characters experiencing a traumatic night where stuff just keeps happening to them. I think Guillermo is in a similar situation in this fic
While My Guitar Gently Weeps by The Beatles
I don't think the men who are The Beatles are good people. I think I owe my love for their songs to the obscure movie Cirque Du Soleil. There's a handful of artistic and abstract interpretations of their songs. In this movie this song is visualized as a widow who lost her husband to war. I bring this up as it was inspiration for writing Nandor's grief for Laszlo. Their relationship soured and Nandor will never have closure with Laszlo. He regrets that he didn't appreciate Laszlo enough while he had him. He also wonders if things would be different if he expressed his love for Guillermo sooner.
Chapter 7
Runs in the Family by Amanda Palmer
This was another part I projected myself into. Guillermo hates who his family is. He's a Van Helsing and no matter how much he denys it or tries to hide it, it will always come back to him.
I cannot, I cannot, I cannot run from my family
They're hiding inside of me, corpses on ice
Guillermo has ran from many things in his life. He's ran from his sexuality and the catholic church but it's always there to haunt him. He's quite literally become a criminal on the run and he's not proud of it.
Mary, have mercy, now look what I've done
But don't blame me because I can't help where I come from
And running is something that we've always done well
And mostly I can't even tell what I'm running from
Grenade by Bruno Mars
Nandor has this unconditional love for Guillermo and while he struggles to vocalize or or express it in a productive way he does cause him to do pretty stupid things. Nandor would literally die for him. Guillermo does feel the same but he's a coward. Besides neither of them could communicate.
Lullaby for a Princess by ponyphonic
Guillermo and Nandor are doomed, in this timeline at least. Nandor doesn't appreciate Guillermo. Nandor didn't support him when he wasn't given any respect. No matter how much Guillermo demand to become a vampire, he refuses to turn him in fear of the consequences but mostly because of his pride. So Guillermo took things into his own hands and became a vampire without him. Guillermo refused to listen to Laszlo's criticism and it resulted in something Guillermo regrets. Nandor knows their relationship us doomed but he still wishes him well as they're forced apart.
The years now before us
Fearful and unknown
I never imagined
I'd face them on my own
May these thousand winters
Swiftly pass, I pray
I love you, I miss you
All these miles away
Everything I do, I do it for You
I remember this song from the movie Robin Hood. I don't remember much of the movie but I remember how the song made me feel. It was like this knight in shinning armor kind of song where you fantasize about rescuing someone you adore or the person rescuing you. I associate alot of 80s dad rock with Nandor. It's romantic and its the ideal type of romance Nandor desires.
The Best of Friends from The Fox and The Hound
Before I really had a clear idea of the conclusion I wanted for this movie, I watched two movies for inspiration. I watched Brother Bear and The Fox and The Hound. The latter was the direct inspiration for the conclusion. I think Guillermo and Nandor are similar to Todd and Cooper. Guillermo is the troublesome fox who keeps causing trouble and accidental harm. Nandor wants to love Guillermo and defend him but he knows they should be enemies and their relationship might be impossible to have without issues.
When these moments have passed
Will that friendship last
Who can't say there's a way
Oh, I hope
I hope it never ends
'Cause you're the best of friends
The scene where Cooper stands in front of Todd to protect him is a touching scene. There's not really a solid answer to the issue. They all go their separate ways and decide to give up the chase. The rabid warewolf is a parallel to the bear Todd fights and Sean parallels Amos Slade who's mind is set on revenge. Nandor's eyes are based on how Cooper stares at his master, pleading for mercy. Nandor's eyes are full of emotion and it works to my advantage for this fanfiction. Sean gives up and chooses peace. Nandor and Guillermo separate on good terms but they will never forget their friendship.

hello there, it’s santa again!
ahh you’re a history major, very cool! i went to school for nursing and two years ago i decided to go back to get my masters in advanced practice nursing. such a rewarding career, i have loved every minute of it. it’s funny really, i thought i’d end up being an in journalism, art or film but i’ve realised that i can still do all those things on the side on top of being a nurse. so, every now and then i do make short films or write fiction stories about whatever comes to mind.
i have always loved Olivia Hussey in “Romeo and Juliet” (1968) ever since we were show it in my high school English class! her and Leonard Whiting fit their roles so well, and two very attractive individuals. that version of the Shakespeare classic is by far my favourite. hm..favourite holiday classic. well, i don’t know if you’d consider this a classic film but i do like rewatching “The Sound Of Music” with Julie Andrews. for me it’s the perfect feel-good holiday classic. i know some people find musicals a bit too cheesy but i don’t, i think they’re wonderful. do you like musicals? i think my favourite musical besides Sound of Music is Oliver! (1968)
oh yes, Ray is so charming and veryy handsome just like his brother Dave whom i’ve been a bit smitten by lately lol speaking of musicals, i also love that Ray go into musicals himself at the peak of his career. i think The Kinks’ “Soap Opera” album does well in showcasing Ray’s talent for acting/singing in musicals. he’s always been such a well rounded artist, i adore that very much about him.
well i hope your holiday decorating is going well. i’m taking my time with mine, though there isn’t much time now is there, since christmas is creeping up fast.
great talk! hope to hear from you soon. take care :)
Hi there! It’s wonderful to study something you genuinely like, isn’t it? I’ve loved history for as long I can remember and I’m really good at it. Learning history is like being told stories. It’s not all happiness and rainbows though. We talk about really sad and disturbing topics too. I just finished a class about the Holocaust. Does nursing ever make you sad, I wonder? I actually used to be a film major in community college but I was far more interested in the history of films and their analysis. So I decided to major in history instead and specialize in film history. You make short films?! That’s really cool. So are they homemade or professional with hired actors? I knew a girl in community college who was like a casting director. She was looking for actors to act in a film. And you write fiction? What do you write about if you don’t mind me asking? I used to write stories when I was little and even drew pictures to accompany the stories. I wanted to be a writer. Maybe I still can be.
Yes Olivia Hussey is very beautiful and the perfect Juliet. Apparently her daughter acts too and is the splitting image of her mother. I love musicals! I even have a playlist on Spotify dedicated to them. I’ve never The Sound of Music actually but I love the two songs Do-Re-Mi and My Favorite Things. Is My Favorite Things meant to be a Christmas song? Anyways I love listening to it during Christmastime. Have you watched musicals performed live? I have seen a few myself like A Gentlemen’s Guide to Love and Murder and Something Rotten. Are there any musicals you grew up watching? The Prince of Egypt was one for me. That film is criminally underrated. It’s absolutely stunning and the songs are amazing. And of course I saw many Disney movies too? My favorite is The Hunchback of Notre Dame. That opening sounds so cool and epic, I love it. I miss how dark Disney movies used to be. I feel like they’ve been playing really safe in recent years. Easier money and less disgruntled parents, I guess. As for my favorite holiday classic, I love the Muppets Christmas Carol. I watched it with my brother recently.
Did you know that Ray and Dave didn’t always get along? I’ve even heard that Ray straight up hated Dave. I don’t know all of the details and some may be exaggerated but it seems they patched things up. I saw recent picture of them together. I’ve even heard that one of them or both are working on something new. Have you listened to their song Father Christmas? It’s so good. It’s exactly what you’d expect from a Christmas song made by the Kinks.
Can you tell what other bands from the 60s you like? Another band I really like are the Turtles. I listened to an album of theirs one night and was instantly hooked. I don’t think I realized they were the band who made the hit song Happy Together before listening. My favorite albums of theirs are Wooden Head (great for summer) and Happy Together. Also, do you know of Herman’s Hermits? Mrs. Brown, You’ve Got a Lovely Daughter is such a sweet song.
Anyways, have a nice day! Until next time.

what’s your favorite type of girl? BIBI case in point. Also girls like Hwasa and Sunmi. they are just so fun and free! (just found out they all have similar personality types only off by a letter)
innie or outie? innie
left or right-handed? right
favorite food? Japanese curry!
favorite foreign food? ...but I already... if I have to put something different then my fav food is rice and beans, and then curry can go here.
are you clean or messy? im an organized mess...
most used phrase? Well...fuck it.
how long does it take you to get ready? depends
do you talk to yourself? yeah
do you sing to yourself? yup
are you a good singer? naw
biggest fear? Being truly alone, fucking up my future cause idk what im doing
are you a gossip? no, I don't think so?
do you like long or short hair? On me, I like short hair, but I think long hair is nice.
favorite school subject? Science, even tho I really sucked at it, English (really just the creative or academic writing parts), History (as long as it wasn't US history, talk about bad and borning)
introvert or extrovert? introvert
what makes you nervous? being angry and others being angry at me
who was your first real crush? a boy from kindergarten, I can still remember his name lol
how fast can you run? ...no
what color is your hair? I say black, but it's really off black, so a very dark brown. only really looks brown in direct sunlight or sometimes yellow lights
do you like your own name? uhhh there is a lot of confusion around my own name and I don't even know why my parents named me the way they did. When I was younger I did like one part of my name but it was legally taken out of my name a long time ago. For a long time, I didn't like my name, I have been learning to like it in recent years.
what makes you angry? sigh don't make me turn in an 11-page report.
do you want a boy or a girl as a child? I would prefer a girl but I want more than one. Keep my children humble ya know lmao
what are your strengths? I'm very observant so I'm good at reading people. People tend to put a lot of trust in me.
what are your weaknesses? I already mentioned it earlier, I put too much of myself into relationships when obviously the other person doesn't care as much. I'm working on it tho so I stop hurting myself. I'm also an emotional sponge (empath) which sounds really cool to some people and descriptions often romanticize it, but it really fucking sucks >:'(
what’s the color of your bedspread? Pastel green, blue, and yellow with white. I think it's cute.
what’s the color of your room? white

The Snake, the Crocodile, and the Dog
- Completed January 19, 2021 -
Murder! Amnesia! False Identities! Cat sitting!
Amelia and Emerson return to the scene of their first adventure together in Egypt in this seventh book of the series. My thoughts under the cut...
As you can see, I finished this book last month. It’s unfortunate that I didn’t sit down right away and write out this post because I’ve read several books since then and it’s not as fresh in my mind!
I gave it 4 stars on Goodreads, but this really would have been 3 1/2 stars, I think. Honestly, most books in this series rank around there. There always seem to be moments I actively dislike, and the mysteries never really do it for me. The action is too spread out, and the stories all seem to follow the same patterns. And, of course, there’s never enough actual archaeology going on. I used to love the dynamic between Amelia and Emerson, but with this book I think I grew a little tried of their more unhealthy attitudes. Ramses didn’t have an active part in this book, so he wasn’t there to make me hate him more or start to hate him less. His letters were fine enough. Nothing too eye-rolling this time lol.
Since I only remember bits and bobs of the story, I’ll just divide my thoughts into two sections:
Nitpicks: I had a problem with the way Mertz kept referring to Nefret in the last book, and it really didn’t get any better here. There’s so much objectification of “exotic” women in these books, and there’s no shortage of “whiteness is the superior beauty” sentiment to be found in the series either. I hate how she feels the need to constantly mention Nefret’s physical appearance. This is a child we are talking about, and the author thought it would be totally cool to mention her adult male character (who acts as a father to this 13 year old girl) admiringly watching her figure as she walked? Am I the crazy one here to think that is irredeemably gross??
Ramses having a crush on Nefret is fine as long as he doesn’t turn into more of a creep, but I sincerely hope Evelyn raises Nefret instead because the girl is already calling Ramses “brother” and I don’t want this to be more creepy.
Amelia is writing this down as if she is working on publishing it. And yet refers to keeping the secret of the lost oasis?
I hate Emerson’s hypocrisy about sex and gender roles. It is not endearing.
I hate the constant “in your face” nature of the “English gentlemen” stereotype. It is mentioned in this book so often that I started to lose my patience. I know Mertz is American and these books are often tongue-in-cheek, but it was just too much for me this time around. “No English gentlemen would do this,” or talk of “the infallible British moral code” ...like these aren’t the folks committing the highest number of atrocities in the world during this time.
I usually love dragging men when they deserve criticism, but I’m afraid Amelia really crosses the line into “man-hating feminist” sometimes. But you get the feeling she has a ton of internalized misogyny too. At least she almost acknowledges it from time to time. Plus Amelia is classist as heck.
Amelia’s comments about beards on men were really messed up.
You knew something was up with Cyrus this whole time because Mertz goes out of her way to constantly show how much Amelia trusts him wholeheartedly. It was so silly because he hasn’t showed up in a book for ages. I pretty much knew Sethos was involved very early on.
Emerson punched Amelia in the face to knock her out. Sorry y’all, there is NO EXCUSE for this. I don’t care what his motive was. I loved Emerson in the early books, but this is not okay.
Things I liked: Abdullah and Amelia finally showing a bit of relationship development. Him referring to Amelia as “my daughter” was a very sweet moment.
This was my first time listening to Barbara Rosenblat’s narration. She brought Amelia to life in a way I hadn’t previously experienced, and it definitely enhanced my reading. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t say she did the male voices particularly well though.
Despite my criticisms with the way Mertz writes everyone around Nefret behaving and thinking, I do like Nefret herself. She has a bit of an Anne of Green Gables thing going on at the start of the book. Nefret of Amarna House. Her making Amelia promise not to go down to the school and hit the mean girls over the head with her parasol was pretty funny.
One thing I appreciate about this series is the way Barbara Mertz will tie in some of her real world knowledge of ancient Egypt to loosely fit the theme of the book. Most of the time it is a flimsy connection, but at least it may teach me something new! In this case, I had never heard the tale of the Doomed Prince, so I was happy to learn about it.
The scene where Amelia was drunk was very funny, but I’m sad a dog was tortured and killed for this scene to happen.
“Cats cannot be held guilty for their actions, since they have no morals to speak of.” Can agree. Have cats.
Conclusion:
So I’m sorry this isn’t a well-written, thought-out review. I guess this is mostly for me to come back to reference. These books are best enjoyed really spaced out from one another lol. They can be really difficult to enjoy. I thought they were going to be comfort books, but they are a bit too problematic for that. I will continue to read thought the series, but it will probably be longer between entires if they stay so same-y, predictable, and disappointing. Don’t get me wrong, they aren’t bad. It’s just that I’ve been chasing the same feeling I got when reading the first book in the series, and I just haven’t had that experience again. Also, I’m sorry if I sometimes refer to the author as Mertz, but say Peters other times. I’m also sorry for my poor writing skills in general, but like I said, these posts are mostly for me.

Tagged by @crystallinee-waters, thank you! 💞
Rule 1: post the rules
Rule 2: answer the questions the person who tagged you asked and write 11 new ones
Rule 3: tag 11 people and link them to the post
Rule 4: actually tell them you tagged them
1. What is your favorite genre of music to listen to on a regular basis?
Rock. I usually use music to hype myself up or cheer myself up, and rock does both. 😁
2. Any plans for Halloween this year?
Nah. I don’t celebrate Halloween.
3. What’s your go-to creative outlet?
Drawing.
4. What does your phone case look like? Describe or show a picture!
I actually don’t have a phone case. 🤭
But if I did, I’d probably have this one:
5. Do you believe in the supernatural or are you a skeptic?
I’m a Christian, so I believe in angels and demons and that sort of thing. But I don’t believe in ghosts.
6. What was the last book you read? Would you recommend it?
Jaws. And not really, lol. But if you’re like me, and you’re curious about the movie’s source material, then I’d say go for it, it’s a quick read. Just know that the movie is better than the book.
7. Top 3 movies (I need recs...)
The Prince of Egypt, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and Little Women (1994). (Sorry, that probably didn’t help much.)
8. Do you have any fanfiction/show/movie/story pet peeves?
I feel like movies and shows have gotten too meta, and are a little overly saturated in social politics. There is a place for that of course, but I feel like we’ve lost story just for the sake of story. Not everything needs an agenda.
9. Do you have any pets? If so, can you describe them or show pics?
First, there’s Peeka (on the left) and Tyler (on the right)
Then there’s Boo. Little goober who makes himself at home in our linen closet.
10. Favorite Halloween-themed movie/show?
Either Trick ‘r Treat or Hocus Pocus, I think.
11. Do you have any goals before the end of the year?
Just my reading goal. If I finish Hunchback before the end of December, I’ll have achieved it. ☺️
My questions:
1.) Pick a fandom. Which character from that fandom is your favorite, and why?
2.) What would your 3 wishes to a genie be?
3.) What’s your favorite book genre?
4.) Whats your favorite movie genre?
5.) What’s your favorite music genre?
6.) Is there a movie/book/tv show you feel is underrated?
7.) Is there a movie/book/tv show you feel is overrated?
8.) List the first 3 songs that come to your mind.
9.) What’s the last dream you remember having?
10.) How are you feeling right now?
11.) *Ghostface voice* Do you like scary movies? What is your favorite scary movie?
Tagging: @hiraeth-doux, @stellaluna33, @spookymatthias, @marektannhaus, @dead--poets, @swanxlake, @stopthenrewind, @rootedinfaith, @notsomecase, @brendan-block, @inmydreams404 (If you want to. Plus if anyone else would like to!)

Questions Game!
I was tagged by @mandelene (sort of 😅. Hope she doesn’t mind.)
Nicknames: At the moment, just a short form of my name.
Zodiac: Capricorn.
Height: 170 cm (5′7″)
Team Edward or Jacob: I did read (and even like) Twilight when I was in middle school but I wouldn’t say I was so involved or cared enough as to have a preference. I would say neither. I did like Jacob a tiny bit more than I liked Edward, but I also thought that, on a narrative standpoint, Bella being with Edward made more sense so... ¯\_(ツ)_/
Hogwarts House: Ravenclaw with most tests. I also got Hufflepuff a few times, though.
Following: 135
Followers: 768
Last Thing I Googled: Who came up with this song/parody. (That I had been sent on Whatsapp.)
Song stuck in my head: Romagna Mia. 😅 My mom was singing it earlier from the living room so it’s stuck.
Amount of Sleep I Get: Depending on the day, from 5 to 7.5 hours. Generally around 6–6.5.
Lucky Number: I don’t think I have one.
Dream Job: I don’t know.
Wearing: Black sweatpants, white t-shirt, oversized grey hoodie. (This is my typical ensemble when I’m home and don’t have to see anybody but my family. 😅)
Instrument: I was forced to play the flute in middle school and I hated it. 😅 I was horrible at it, I have no sense of rhythm nor eye-hand coordination so... It was just really bad. Didn’t play any other instrument.
Random Fact: When I was 8, I cheated on a visual field test because I hadn’t been explained the purpose properly. 😅 (Note: it’s a test where you look at a dark screen divided into four quadrants. They light small dots and when you see one, you have to push a button – I think there’s a button for each quadrant, but I don’t remember it so well.) I had basically gone blind from one eye and they wanted to test that – but, since I was so young, they first did a test run where I could keep both eyes open (so I would see all the dots) to check if I had understood how the test worked. However, I knew I couldn’t see out of my right eye. I had even told so to several doctors – multiple times. I didn’t see the purpose of testing that, I thought it was clear. So, I somehow got the impression that they weren’t checking my vision but my intellect or something – and to ‘pass’ the test, I was supposed to get all the dots even without seeing them. I used the test run to figure out the pattern in which the dots would appear, and got most of them right during the real test. The doctor was flabbergasted. I remember him telling my mother, “Madam, but... her eyesight is perfectly fine.” And my mother – who knows me very well – basically face-palmed and told him I must have used the test run to figure out the pattern. (I don’t remember the exact words, but I do remember her tone. That mixture of exasperated and defeated of a person who is 100% done with everything and everybody.) The doctor and nurses tried to claim it was impossible until my mother directly asked me and I confirmed I had, indeed, cheated. (I did the test properly after that.) 😅😅
Favourite Songs: I don’t listen to much music. Typically, I hear a song, like it, listen to it almost on loop for the following weeks (when I’m listening to music, which isn’t very frequent tbh), then find another one or go back to old ones. Right now, I’m back to the Prince of Egypt soundtrack.
Aesthetics: Unnecessarily long hair. Plain/ugly girl with no makeup and baggy clothes who is perfectly aware of how ugly she is and tries to pass unnoticed. Always too pale. Soft, unthreatening (and it’s a right impression, lol. I used physical violence once in my life and I was much younger – I don’t think I’d be able to do it again). Either very graceful (just reporting what I’ve been told lmao. I was surprised too.) or tripping on her own feet, there’s no in-between.
———
I tag everybody who feels like doing this! 😊 (Please tag me back if you do it though! I love learning about you guys.)

Top 5 animated movies:
1. Whisper of the Heart - Such a cute and whimsical slice-of-life coming of age story, and so inspiring for creative types! I love how Shizuku sees her fantasies come to life in the world around her, and how she just follows her whims to wander the city and treats each day like an adventure. I see a lot of myself in her. The grandpa and his shop are so cool! I want to find a place like that in my city! I love how she and Seiji inspire and encourage each other to improve themselves. Even though they’re so young and I usually hate that kind of thing, I think it’s a very realistic portrayal of what true love and a healthy relationship should be. The way her writing is treated as a creative process and something she can polish with hard work is just such a wonderful message and so inspiring to me.
2. Spirited Away - I love the Japanese culture and mythology, and the serene, still tone of the film. Truly beautiful. The way it doesn’t paint the spirits and gods in a bad light is good and correct: they were the careless humans who went into their world and took what they shouldn’t have. But it still focuses on the supernatural and eerie elements, often without even explaining anything, which I love. And the bathhouse feels like a real functioning place with workplace culture and all. And of course it’s great that Chihiro steps up and learns to be strong. I just love it.
3. Howl’s Moving Castle - I love all the characters so much, and all the magic and whimsy. The fantasy European setting is so charming, and they did a good job depicting Western magic. Ghibli movies really have such mundane magic, and they make me feel like my life is magic too. Sophie is so good and strong and I love seeing her come into her own. And Howl is hot. lmao
4. My Neighbor Totoro - I had the original Fox dub of this on a bootleg VHS my grandma made us when I was literally like an infant. My parents threw it away when I was still young- like no older than 5- because it “has Eastern religion in it” 🙄 Too bad for them the damage was already done lmfao. It was definitely one of the biggest influences of my formative years, I loved it so much and I’m so grateful to it. That mundane magic I talked about before, and just introducing me to a totally different worldview from my sheltered white American Christian bubble. I was fascinated by every single aspect from the traditional Japanese-style home to the bentos to the shrines... I really admired Satsuki and how grown up she was, taking care of her little sister like she did, making the lunches, all that. It’s really such a charming movie with great music and such a realistic depiction of childhood. Plus who doesn’t love Totoro himself?? And catbus! Iconicccc. I still look for little portholes in bushes and trees to this day lmao
5. Mulan - My little 8-year-old enby ass crying in the living room and repeatedly playing the Reflections scene over and over makes so much more sense now 😂 But really it’s just such a great film with a unique art style, fun characters, and great music. I love how Mulan fights for what she believes is right, and wants to protect her father. And I think it’s great how she also fights to find her own place in the world. I like how they don’t make it a “not like other girls” thing, but just that she personally somehow doesn’t feel comfortable in her own skin with the makeup and all that. Between her living as a man and the clear romantic relationship between “Ping” and Shang, it’s pretty good queer representation for a 2000s Disney movie lol. Also Mulan and Shang can both get it I mean what.
Honorable Mention: Prince of Egypt - That animation tho! So fucking cinematic!! And the music and everything just ugh so good! The characters are really compelling too and you can totally feel the brotherly love and familial issues.
Top 5 live action movies:
1. Miss Pettigrew Lives For A Day - This is a movie where you can’t look away for a moment or you’ll miss something important. It really is just one entire heck of a day for the main character like howwww does so much happen. It’s really just written so well honestly that they manage to pack so much into a single movie and a single day. I aspire to that level. The 30s setting is so great with the costumes and set and music ahh I get so much inspiration from it. Every single character (and actor for that matter) is just fantastic. It’s super funny- that situational comedy is my jam. And there are touching moments that give me inspiration for my own life. I relate to Miss Pettigrew with her clear social anxiety, and perhaps neurodivergency? But I love how the events of the film bring out the best in her. And Delysia is just so charming! I want her confidence
2. La La Land - Such a fun and whimsical musical about life for creatives in Los Angeles~ It makes me feel nostalgic and proud to live here. I love all the different homages to classic Hollywood, and the music is so good!! The love story feels realistic and I actually really like that they don’t end up together in the end. They just encourage each other to be better, and if that means being apart, they’re willing to do it. It is another one that gives me inspiration for my life and creative endeavors, especially The Fools Who Dream 😭 Gets me every time.
3. Mamma Mia - This is my shameless feel-good movie. I love just putting it on in the background as I clean or whatever. It’s just so upbeat and fun!! I love Amanda Seyfried and Meryl Streep especially. And I like that the main character learns what she wants (and doesn’t want) out of life right now. And I love that they depict older characters and women!! having full and rich lives including romance and sex. The message that it’s never too late for love is so great! And also just like please communicate and you will probably save yourself so much heartache lmao.
4. Across the Universe - I have an affinity for the 60s and 70s, and I love how this movie kind of takes you through that era with the various characters. It’s such a fun movie with great costumes, cinematography, and music! I just love all the covers of the Beatles songs!! I honestly like them just as much as I like the originals. This is one of the first things I ever saw with positive/neutral queer representation?? Like Sadie is presented just as she is, without it being like WHAT SHE LIKES WOMEN?????? I”MPOSSIBLE !! Or making it all about sex or whatever. It’s literally just like “I want to hold your hand.” Also the whole bit with Eddie Izzard is just incredible lmfao
5. LOTR - My first fandom~ I love these movies so much ughhh. The music! The costumes! The characters! The world! The high fantasy!! I think PJ was so true to the books, or at least as much as he was able in just 10-ish hours. I love that they just went for it and filmed all three in one go, and made them over 3 hours long, which was basically unheard of at the time for blockbuster films. They did so good fully representing the different races through costume, language, culture, and the music too. I literally used to just lay on my bed for hours at a time in junior high, listening to the soundtracks and being immersed in the world. My friends and I would often play pretend that we were in Middle Earth (so lame for middle schoolers lmaooo). I love every single (not-evil) character and I will fight for them. I will especially fight Denethor I don’t even cARE !
Honorable mention: A Little Princess - Sooo whimsical and lovely, even when the girls are going through hardship! I love Sarah and how she literally does magic and even puts a curse on what’s her face omgg. She’s so charming and a genuinely good person too, even though she could have been a spoiled brat. The big climactic scene is so !! Omg I still get the adrenaline when she’s crossing the board and then hiding from the police even though I’ve seen this countless times since I was a small child. And it’s so wonderful that she’s reunited with her father, and they adopt the other girl. It taught me at a young age that the world isn’t fair and people will be nasty and abusive for no reason, but that you can still believe in magic and “fancy yourself a princess.” And the neighbor guy taught me that strangers will step in to help out of the goodness of their heart.
Top 5 TV shows:
1. ATLA - One of the best series of all time. The worldbuilding, lore, storyline, character development, animation, music, etc, are all incredible. If they had gone with the original intention of making Zutara canon it would have been literally perfect and so subversive and innovative! As it is it is still nearly perfect and they still did an amazing job with Zuko’s redemption arc. I just ignore that very last scene tbh. In my mind, it didn’t happen. The series addresses so many issues like imperialism, sexism, abuse, family, disability, war, etc, in a very realistic way. Uncle Iroh is literally a treasure.
2. Steven Universe - So charming and wonderful!! I just love it so much!! It is so goddamn queer, it makes me so happy. Stevonnie is the nonbinary representation we don’t even deserve!! I love every single character. I love the animation and the music too! The bgm is so bubbly and glitchy and cool, super on point for trends these days. And the original songs are so charming~ It also deals with a ton of important issues like imperialism, interpersonal relationships, oppression, self-identity, abuse, leadership, mental health, boundaries, consent, brain-washing, unlearning unhealthy behavior, etc. I love that every single character, even minor ones, get character development and a chance to be strong and improve themselves. And it shows that even the ones we initially think are super strong and have it all together, actually have their own issues that they struggle with too.
3. Yuuri!!! On Ice - This show!!!! Oh my goddddddd. Literally perfect. I love that it just subverts every single trope???? Especially with the events at the beginning and the big spoiler in episode 10. Simply incredible. I love every single character so much??? Even ones I was expecting to hate, like how Yurio is a little shit at the beginning, and then when Lilia is introduced as this super severe tyrant, but she ends up just being a good, yet strict coach because she really wants Yurio to succeed. It’s honestly just so wholesome! The music is so amazing and the ice skating is really realistic too! It really shows that they had an actual skating choreographer and worked off video of him performing. I love how realistic the whole show is like with lots of social media, youtube, instagram, etc. And it does a queer romance without it being a gimmick. It’s just a sports anime with a side plot of a romance but it just happens to be gay. And Kubo-sensei has stated that homophobia doesn’t exist at all in their world which makes me so happy. It’s honestly so queer and I adore how all three main characters are genderfucks a bit. I also love how realistically Yuuri’s anxiety and depression are portrayed. I relate so much to him, especially because mine exhibit in the exact same ways as his. It’s another one that inspires me to fight to be better and live the life I want to live.
4. OTGW - So charming. A perfect addition to the canon of New England fairy tales. The music is great, the animation is wonderful and nostalgic, the characters are fun and interesting and spooky. I love how liminal it is and you aren’t really sure where they are or what’s going on for the majority of the episodes. Greg is the most realistic depiction of a small child and the brothers’ relationship is the most realistic I think I’ve ever seen in my life lmao. He’s just so random and weird and has such Little Kid Logic I love it so much lmao. The story is perfectly contained in its 10 short episodes, and it gives a very satisfying ending. I still can’t get over how many huge stars were in it too?? Like fucking Tim Curry as Auntie Whispers???? I can not believe.
5. Inuyasha - I’m weeb trash and this show is also trash but I love it so much okay. As a big fan I hold so much against the anime for changing things from the manga, but even so I love it. Overall I think the animation, music, and voice acting is perfect. It’s so cool with all the mythos of youkai and the shikon jewel, plus I love traditional Japanese culture stuff. And isekai type stuff is my jam. If I found a portal to another world or to the past you bet your ass I’d go through it. I totally don’t still look for portals as a 30 year old adult, I don’t know what you’re talking about 😂 Kagome is such a great mc tbh like she’s so smart and strong and talented and kind I just love her so much??? I want to be more like her. And I love all the characters honestly. I have to overlook some questionable 90s anime tropes for certain ones, but I still love them. As much as we rag on the constant upgrades thing, the battles and stuff are pretty thrilling, and overall the series is good fun. And yes Sesshoumaru is my husbando, next question.
Honorable Mention: Doctor Who - I love how this show manages to be like every single genre?? SciFi, historical, comedy, thriller, mystery, slice of life, etc. I love all of the Doctors, and all of their companions. I just love how much the Doctor loves humans, and how much faith they have in humanity. And again it’s that whole isekai, time travel, normal modern human goes on magical adventures thing. I would go with the Doctor in a heartbeat. I still cry over Donna 😭

1 - Have you ever grown your own fruits or veggies? Did it work out okay or was it a bit of a failure? >> I’ve not tried this, no. Sparrow tries growing stuff on the balcony, with varying levels of success. This year, pests ruined most of them.
2 - Could you ever raise animals only to kill and eat them later on, or would you struggle to kill a living thing you’d formed an attachment to? >> I haven’t had any experience with forming attachments to animals, particularly the kind that would make their death intolerable, so I doubt this would be much of a problem for me. In fact, I think it would be a gratifying experience.
3 - When was the last time you painted your nails? >> It’s been a while.
4 - If you regularly sit in the same place (on your bed or the sofa, for example) do you have a cupboard or something to keep supplies in so you don’t have to keep moving all the time? >> I just commute my water bottle, lip balm, and phone from my nightstand to my desk and back again.
5 - Have you ever been a witness to a crime? Did you have to make a statement to the police? >> No.
6 - Do you prefer Harry Potter or the Lord of the Rings? >> I mean, I don’t see why these two are being pitted against each other, but whatever. I find LOTR more interesting.
7 - Do you like to air your house or room out every day to stop it getting musty? >> I don’t have to, but I like to. I tend to feel like a caged bird if the windows are closed for too long.
8 - Have you ever visited a landmark or place made famous by a TV show or film? Did you go there because it was featured on TV? >> Nope.
9 - Who taught you how to tie your shoe laces? >> My father, one would assume.
10 - Do you have any pets? What are they all doing at the moment? >> ---
11 - Do you prefer sweet or savoury snacks? >> Savoury. I rarely eat anything sweet by itself, unless it’s a fruit. Even then, I’m likely to pair it with something (apples and cheese, for example).
12 - What’s the most painful place you’ve ever had a spot? Was it a big relief when you finally managed to squeeze it? >> I don’t recall having one anywhere particularly painful.
13 - Talking of spots, have you ever watched videos like those by Dr Pimple Popper? Do you think that kind of stuff is cool or gross? >> No, Sparrow loves that kind of stuff but I’m mostly uninterested (although I’d watch it with her if she wanted, just not while I’m eating lol).
14 - When was the last time you attended a bonfire? >> It’s been a long time.
15 - Is there anything you wish you enjoyed, but you just struggle with for some reason? Maybe you hate the crowds or the noise? >> Yes, yes, yes. Many things fall into this category, because I have sensory issues and social issues and those get in the way of a lot of enjoyment in the outside world.
16 - What’s worse - someone constantly blowing their nose or someone who’s constantly sniffing? >> Both of those things are awful for me (although I guess sniffling is slightly worse because you get more sniffs per minute than you’d get blowing per minute), but that’s why god made headphones. *shrug*
17 - Do you have any genuine phobias? What are they and have you ever done anything to address them? >> No.
18 - Do you hate the feeling of being sweaty and dirty from exercise? Is this something that’s put you off working out in the past? >> Yes, absolutely. My sensory issues feel so validated by this survey, lol.
19 - Is there anything “normal” that you have a real aversion to? Like a certain noise or smell or taste? >> I feel like most of the things I have sensory aversion to are things I’m supposed to regard as “normal”. Like the level of noise most people operate on, or strong smells like cologne and candles, or lots of casual touch, etc.
20 - If you’ve made plans with someone and you really don’t want to go when the time comes, do you suck it up or make an excuse? >> Nah, I’ll usually just tell them. They’re welcome to not make plans with me anymore if that’s something they can’t abide, but at least I’ve given them the opportunity to make that choice instead of lying to them. And I’m definitely not going to “suck it up” and ignore my own needs at that moment. I will try my best to keep to the plans I’ve made, of course, but if I can’t, I can’t.
21 - What’s your favourite thing to do with each of your parents? Do you get a chance to do that regularly? >> ---
22 - If you were to adopt a pet, is there anything that would put you off, like a certain colour or breed? >> ---
23 - Would you ever like to give circus skills a go? What would you be most interested in trying? >> No, thanks.
24 - What are your thoughts on circuses that allow animal performances? >> I don’t have thoughts about this.
25 - Are there any habits or traditions you’ve picked up from your parents that you’ve carried on in your own home? >> Probably, but I don’t want to think about it right now.
26 - Are there any remakes that you think are better than the originals? >> Sure, probably.
27 - How about cover songs? Do you prefer any of those to the original versions? >> Yeah, there are a few of these. I’m not getting into specifics because my brain is not in a “dredge up random lists of information on command” mood right now.
28 - What’s the first movie you remember seeing in the cinema? What about the last? >> The Prince of Egypt was the first movie I saw in the cinema (talk about setting a standard!), and the last was Birds of Prey.
29 - Do you listen to more music, or watch more TV? Is this something that’s changed over the years? >> I don’t know which one I do more.
30 - Do you have any weird fears or worries? Like thinking you’ve forgotten to lock a door or blow out a candle? What do you do to reassure yourself you’ve not forgotten? >> Nope.

you like the prince of egypt too??! i just rewatched a bunch of clips and listened to the soundtrack again and i realized there are so many things about the film i didn’t understand as a kid, lmao. i really do wish dreamworks would make films like this today, it was pretty dark but it was so beautiful. also, hans zimmer is pretty amazing lol
I have so much Hans Zimmer on my playlist but yeah, I rewatched it fairly recently and it’s actually just an epic movie
“When You Believe” was my JAM as a child. The only thing I could do without really is Sandra Bullock’s voice.

Quarantine Q&A
Tagged by @beautifulwhensarcastic !❤️
ARE YOU STAYING HOME FROM WORK AND SCHOOL? For now, yes! I work at a grocery store and have been taking a precautionary leave (I have pretty bad asthma and some other health stuff that puts me at risk), but might be going back soon
IF YOU’RE STAYING HOME, WHO’S THERE WITH YOU? I live with an older aunt (she’s in her 70s and is another part of the reason I’m taking time off). We’re also sharing a small studio apartment so it’s been. Interesting.
ARE YOU A HOMEBODY? definitely
AN EVENT THAT YOU WERE LOOKING FORWARD TO THAT GOT CANCELLED? I volunteer at a summer camp for kids with autoimmune conditions and it hasn’t gotten cancelled yet, but I have a feeling it will be for all of their safety :(
WHAT MOVIES HAVE YOU WATCHED RECENTLY? My aunt and I are alternating movie picks, so we just watched Goodfellas (her choice), and Galaxy Quest (my choice)
WHAT SHOWS ARE YOU WATCHING? Rewatching Phineas and Ferb bc it’s fun and Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries bc Jack/Phryne, while waiting for new eps of What We Do In The Shadows and Brooklyn Nine Nine!
WHAT MUSIC ARE YOU LISTENING TO? Currently, only things that inspire writing, so lots of electro-swing for the fic I’m working on, and some random assorted soundtrack music for a poetry project! (also the Prince of Egypt soundtrack because Passover and all of those songs are bangers, but that falls into the poetry category too)
WHAT ARE YOU READING? Not as much as I should, but mostly poetry by Mary Oliver. Her writing about nature and finding peace in yourself has been super helpful lately
WHAT ARE YOU DOING FOR SELF-CARE? not a lot but I’m trying to stretch my neck every day/trying to be gentle with myself in terms of holding myself to the things that I should be doing. Also I’m defs not showering as much as I should BUT when I do shower, I’m taking like. triple the amount of time I normally do which is relaxing lol
I can’t think of anyone to tag right now so i’m doing the lazy thing again--if you want to do this and you follow me then I’m tagging you!!!
#thanks for tagging me :)#tag meme#i got too much sleep last night and can't think of anything i'm sorry friends#personal

How It All Started
I guess if I’m using this blog as a sort of diary, I should document what’s happened so far. That makes it sound too professional lol I’ll just...do my thing:
Bas was talking to me about religion (because I had recently off-handedly mentioned that I wasn’t Christian anymore) and he told me he was going to try Paganism. We talked about it for a long time and I said I would be willing to try it because I liked the openness and freedom of it. He mentioned in this conversation that he was kind of feeling the presence of Loki (and he still works with him now).
The day after that talk, I was sitting there just listening to music and working on something when this song came on that gave me INTENSE Loki vibes. Normally, I would hear a song and think of a character (for cosplay/CMV reasons), so it was weird to me that I thought SPECIFICALLY about Norse Loki, not MCU Loki. The song hit me super hard with emotions and made me incredibly hurt and sad (it was a sad song), especially when relating it to Loki.
I told Bas about it and he told me to keep an eye out for Loki. I (kind of) jokingly said, “Well hell need to send me an obvious sign because I’m a DENSE BITCH.” The following morning, the first thing my grandma said to me was telling me that there was a snake just chilling out in the garden.
I was like “huh okay that’s weird but not a sign, right?” I’m very skeptical by nature and it takes a lot for me to believe in things. Days and weeks went by and I just couldn’t stop thinking about Loki, but nothing big really happened.
My friend group ended up going to Bristol Ren Faire and basically as soon as we got there, this woman came up to ask if we needed help finding anything and was telling us about RenQuest because she was working in it that year. She told us that that year’s theme was Greek Gods and Norse Mythology. I LOST MY SHIT and looked at Bas (who was also, more calmly, losing his shit). It was extra weird because you normally don’t find those religions out together and Bas was looking into working with Apollo while I had been thinking about Loki.
By this point, this was way too many coincidences for me to just ignore, but I still didn’t do anything about it because I was afraid (afraid of doing something wrong and offending Loki, afraid of not knowing what to do or how to do it, afraid of not getting an answer, etc). A while later (just a few days ago), I hung out with Bas and another friend to do some tarot readings. I did a reading that was focusing on a deity first, like one who wanted to contact me. All of the cards pointed to it being Loki. Okay. So we did another reading about a situation: about my situation with feeling uneasy about jumping into Paganism and contacting Loki. The second reading had kind of an expected result: all of the cards were about procrastination and trusting your gut and just taking action. It seemed like a pretty clear sign: Loki wanted me to just take the leap and contact him.
Today on the way to class, the very first song that played was The Adventure by Angels & Airwaves (the lyrics are important here). I was like “huh, okay, that’s a little weird, but not a sign, right?” The next song that came on was Your Guardian Angel by Red Jumpsuit Apparatus. Then Through Heaven’s Eyes from Prince of Egypt. Pandora normally plays songs that are in the same category back-to-back, but these had nothing in common. It felt very much like Loki yelling at me to just give him a chance. So I told him I heard him, apologized for taking so long to reach out to him, and asked him to please be patient while I built up the courage to contact him in the coming days.

21 and 30 for the latest mc & Jacob asks?
Aaaaa, thank you! ;; it’s always an honour aaaa | original post & questions: x
21. Would MC/Jacob prefer to live in the lively, populated city or the quiet, sparse countryside?
They both would live in the countryside x3 they grew up in the Highlands and they love the vastness, quietness and the peaceful sense of intimacy that those majestic landscapes can offer. It’s true that Xiv’s an extrovert, and so I can picture her living (maybe) somewhere not too far from the big city, but still- she needs fresh air and a close contact with nature- AND LOTS OF MAGICAL CREATURES (and a place where she can practice her spells & duelling skills. And a waterfall. A true warrior always meditates under a waterfall).
30. Do you have any songs that remind you of MC, Jacob, and/or their relationship? Do you have a playlist? Would you mind linking me to that playlist? Thanks.
This reminds me that I haven’t done the MC/Jacob music challenge yet aaaaaa ;; so much to do, so little time! I don’t have a playlist, sorry! Also, do you mind if I write down only one song for character? I hope to share a full playlist soon! So, yeah, this may sound a bit silly, but the first song which came to my mind while thinking about Xiv (besides Blood Red Sandman and Bodies, which I featured in my silly comics jdasklj) was Eye Of The Tiger (Survivor) :’) she’s such an energetic girl and I always feel the urge to punch the air (or do the Rocky steps, lol) everytime I listen to this song! As for Jacob, unfortunately I’ve still have so many doubts around this character, but I think David Bowie’s Space Oddity would suit him. As for their relationship, my dumb brain immediately went for The Plagues from The Prince of Egypt so yeah maybe I need to think about that ._./ THUS SAITH THE LORD
