Knightstone Household: Chapter 9, Part 10
Tumblr media Tumblr media
CW: Low level sim spice - Guide to Content Warnings
Silas did not have a good school day. He didn’t want to explain what happened but he got a very sad moodlet. Luckily for him he’d already arranged to have his friends, and fellow aliens, Tyree and Ruth come over after school. It was too cold to do anything outside so the three took over the living room and started a video game battle.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ruth: Important question, what are you two bringing for show and tell
Tyree: I found this cool leaf that looks like-
Ruth: Boring! As aliens we have to set the standard in cool stuff. Silas can you bring an alien
Silas: What? We’re aliens
Tumblr media
Ruth: I meant from your mum’s collection of critters
Silas: Oh, maybe. She doesn’t really like people touching her science stuff
Ruth: You don’t have to ask her, just bring one
Tyree: Like you would steal from your mum’s
Ruth: I would if they had cool stuff for show and tell
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Silas: Maybe I should just borrow a geode, Mummy has a bunch. I think she said the whole collection but she never got a collection plaque? I don’t know
Ruth ends up winning the game leaving the boys annoyed. She and Tyree head home while Silas takes a nap until his mum gets home.
Tumblr media
Suzanna had a stressful workday and returns home with a bad headache. After waking up Silas she grabs her dinner, Adam votes they eat in the lounge in front of the TV tonight.
Suzanna: Good day?
Adam: I leveled up my guitar skill and Pollock and I sent a book off
Suzanna: That’s great!
Silas: Mummy... can I... have an alien?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pollock: We aliens
Silas: I know. I mean one of the ones upstairs
Suzanna: Why? As like a pet?
Silas: Not exactly. I’d like to take one for show and tell. Please
Adam: I don’t think that’s a good idea, but your Mum and I will talk okay
Suzanna: You don’t want to take a crystal? We have plenty of those
Silas: Maybe. If I can’t have an alien
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Adam and Suzanna worked in tandem that night getting their sons to bed. Adam read Pollock a story while Suzanna sprayed the monster under the bed for Silas. When they got upstairs they got in their sleepwear.
Suzanna: Why don’t you want him taking an alien
Adam: I don’t want us to be the local weirdos
Suzanna: But Adam you know the alien population ratio is high here, that’s why we came
Adam: I know. I just... we got so much unwanted attention as kids. I don’t want that for him
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Suzanna: I know but he seems bright and he’s got friends
Adam: So I need to stop being so protective
Suzanna: I wouldn’t tell you that. But he should to be able to share something he’s excited about
Adam: Would any of them even survive a trip to school and back
Suzanna: The porcupine might. I can check with it tomorrow
Adam: For now would you get on the bed, I’ve missed you today. Let me show you how much
Suzanna: I think I’d rather convince you of my view
Adam: I like the sound of that
Suzanna: *giggles* Close your eyes
Tumblr media
The next morning Silas can’t wait for his parents to get to the breakfast table. Bringing an alien was Ruth’s idea but he would like to be able to talk about one, his mum has found so many.
Adam: Morning sport
Silas: Daddy did you decide
Suzanna: Your dad wants you to take an alien
Silas: REALLY
Adam: Hold on there are some ground rules. Don’t let anybody else touch it, keep it in your sight and listen to your Mum when she tells you all about it
Silas: Huh
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Suzanna: If you want to take one we need to go over my notes first. Otherwise you won’t have anything to say other than what colour it is. Show and tell is Friday right? I should have some time after work tomorrow
Silas: Yes, thanks Mummy, thanks Daddy
He happily washes the breakfast dishes and gets ready for the bus.
Adam: Thanks for convincing me. Anytime you want to do that to me again-
Suzanna: Shh, he’ll hear you! Let him be young and innocent a while longer
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Silas headed to the road to wait for the bus to come. Rather than just stand and freeze he decided to make some snow angels. Suzanna meanwhile headed to her garden to harvest and care for the plants. Slowly some were evolving into better plants under her care.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Arriving at work Suzanna was confronted by a grey sky and an angry Shelley.
Shelley: Thank the watcher you are here, I need to talk to you
Suzanna: What about
Shelley: When you had your vacation day-
Suzanna: My son was sick
Shelley: And as a mother of a Silas I sympathise but Faye did not
Suzanna: If you’re going to tell me she hates me I’m well aware
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Shelley: Doesn’t that piss you off
Suzanna: It comes with the territory of being an alien
Shelley: She was lording it over me all day, barking orders, I have the same rank as her
Suzanna: I’ll talk to her about it
Shelley: I wouldn’t mind if you did more than just talk
Tumblr media
Shelley stormed inside and Suzanna groaned. Personal management was her least favourite part of the job. She just wanted to be a scientist tinkering away but no, since she was “the best” she was expected to control the behaviour of others. She set about her usual morning tasks thinking hard, how could she talk to Faye without it becoming a full on confrontation?

AU where Tom adopts/takes care of Max would be designed to take me out specifically because the timeline is brutal and angsty and wonderful….UGHH stay with me while I yap for a second
I imagine Max would have fallen into Tom’s care in his sophomore year of high school (Max would be about 15 around this time). Tom is the coach of the football team and has seen Max coming to practice with unusual bruises and burn marks ever since 8th grade (I like to imagine there is some kind of Hatchetfield Middle that also has a little football camp for older middle school kids that Tom helps out with), and Tom has been working to get Max out of his father care since then. Max ends up in the care of the Houstons which includes Tom, Tim, and Jane because the accident has yet to happen since it’s the beginning of the school year. Max still has anger issues (not as bad as we see in NPMD; I imagine his bullying would be at its peak his senior year as a sort of last hoorah since his “life would be over after high school”), but he never bullies or hurts Tim, and Tom keeps him in his place. Max also now once again has a mother which is something he’s missed for a long long time (I know Jane isn’t implied to be the best person in Nightmare Time, but I like to think she’s a pretty good mom). As time goes on and winter roles around, Max feels happy for the first time in a long time. He helps Tom build things, plays video games with Tim, and sometimes he even helps Jane cook. He starts bullying people less and maybe his grades even start to improve.
Then the accident happens and Jane dies.
Of course Jane’s death hits Tom and Tim extremely hard, but Max loses a mother for the second time. He feels indebted to Tom for saving him from his father, so he steps up for Tom and Tim. He grieves with them, but he doesn’t let his emotions show since Jane wasn’t really his mother or family. His father taught him that men aren’t allowed to show emotions and should instead be strong; Max internalized this deeply and while he was getting better at it since Tom is so kind, Jane’s death has set him soooo far back. Max finds outlets for his grief in cooking and football, but it’s not enough. It’s not enough and he’s still restless and upset; he goes back to bullying just a handful of nerds—the nerdiest of nerds. He keeps bullying Pete, Ruth, and Richie. Once again it’s not as bad as before, but it’s enough for Max to feel like he has some control of his life again.
Fast forward a year, and it’s Black Friday. Max has still been bullying the nerds, but Tom doesn’t know since it’s so minor. He’s noticed that somethings been up with Max, but he’s been so caught up in his own grief and keeping it together and Max says everything is fine so he doesn’t look into it too much. However, Tom does hear about this Tickle-Me-Wiggly doll and wants to get one for Max and Tim since they both deserve it after everything they’ve gone through. In an attempt to connect them both more with his family (and because he feels a bit bad leaving them both alone right after thanksgiving), Tom calls Emma to come watch the boys. Emma brings Paul (her not boyfriend) along, but Paul was also put on babysitting duty, and he’s watching over his nephew: Richie. Max is obviously surprised to see the nerd, and Richie gets a bit terrified but doesn’t want to ruin this for Paul or Emma. Max complains with Tim that he doesn’t want Tom to go, and rightfully gets pissed when Tom does leave to “get a new blade for his bandsaw”. It’s no use, and Tom still goes Lakeside mall to get both of his boys a Wiggly. Max is mad, but Emma is a master at dealing with angry people; she’s a barista, she does it everyday.
The group of Paul, Emma, Tim, Max, and Richie all hang out for the day. Richie shies away since he’s very much scared of Max still, but Max doesn’t pull any shit with him. Richie thinks it’s because adults are around, but then Richie also sees glimpses of Max acting like an older brother to Tim, and he starts to wonder. He wonders about the period where Max didn’t bully him, he wonders about how Max ended up in the Houston’s care, and he wonders what it would be like to be Max’s friend. Max doesn’t have anything to prove at his own house. He let’s himself be more involved in the board games and bonding shenanigans, and even makes a few jokes that Max laughs at.
Maybe life could turn around for all of them…
Since Black Friday takes place during their junior year (I think this is right timeline wise, but I may be wrong) which would give them time to be friends and heal and all that good stuff (assuming they all live past Black Friday). Max gets to live and have a family with the Houstons and gets to learn to be friends with Richie and maybe even the other nerds.
fuuckkkkkkkkkk now I need to make this a whole ass fan fiction and universe ughhhhhhh……<3
also it took me til half way through writing this fucking essay to realize that I was just making my 5 favorite Hatchetfield characters (Richie, Paul, Max, Emma, and Tom) all connected, and I just think that’s a little silly
if u read this whole thing, ur one of God’s strongest soldiers o7
also pls pls plssss let me know if u think of other stuff to add

super important tmc hcs. ignoring the fact tht terraria and minecraft both came out in 2011
adam terraria: starts a new world every week bc it forgets what he's supposed to be doing next and it never occurs to him to look it up. bro doesn't even know the wiki Exists. never gets to hardmode bc he insists on playing master difficulty and also is bad at the game minecraft: exclusively plays creative mode in superflat worlds. makes ugly box structures out of diamond blocks and performs horrible labrat experiments on mobs in them
jonah terraria: almost exclusively plays journey mode! makes it his mission every time to 100% the research catalogue. the collection aspect of it tickles something in their brain minecraft: exclusively plays modded with like 20 different incredibly complicated tech mods tht each have a 200 page user manual . and also tinker's construct. they r a pro at it
mark terraria: gets to hardmode on expert mode, delves into the underground hallow bc he's excited to explore, gets jumpscared by a naturally spawning hallowed mimic and has a fucking heart attack minecraft: mark operates out of a dirt hut and yknow what fuck you they like it that way. brother rocking the greentop with the oak door. half the floor is gravel. no glass or trap doors for windows, just 1 block holes in the walls and one of the "windows" is blocked by a double chest. fully enchanted netherite and elytra btw
cesar has never played a video game. walks in2 marks room like are ya winnin, bro?
sarah terraria: plays w so many mods and texture packs the game is nigh unrecognizable. plays exclusively master mode and turns on every 'challenge' difficulty that comes with the mods at once bc she's seen the face of god and it was weeping minecraft: girlie is in the minigame servers. find sarah doing tnt run at 3 am she is going for it . good for her
evelin terraria: actually a pretty good builder. uses the wiki as a guide for npc happiness and builds little towns for them. beat moonlord like 2 months ago and just keeps going back to the same world to build stuff minecraft: plays adventure maps bc she thinks they're fun. evelin has played every minecraft horror adventure map that exists. i think she would love terra swoop force too dave terraria: once he gets far enough in a world to get access to wiring it's all over. spends the rest of the game trying to build machines to instant-ko bosses, with varying degrees of success. a master of the hoik minecraft: you know those videos that are like. using redstone to play minecraft in minecraft. yeah ruth terraria: plays vanilla summoner class in master mode for the worthy seed. she is god's strongest soldier and baby she's going for terraprisma. minecraft: spends the entire first night punching skeletons and creepers to death with her bare steve fists. has that Totally Legit Speedrun luck and finds everything she needs just from running around and raiding generated structures
thatcher terraria: terrible at building but god bless he's trying. favorite part of the game is old one's army, and she spends hours grinding to collect all of the sentries and the armor sets. somehow gets spawn camped by a crawdad and cries minecraft: keeps forgetting that you shouldn't make eye contact with endermen and it scares the shit out of her every time. is prone to lava-based mining incidents
jude tries to download minecraft free minecraft cracked no virus 100% safe trust me :) dot exe. is shocked when he gets a virus. how can this be

BACKGROUND.
tw: infertility
born in roanoke, virginia to ruth and clarence adair. ruth, a teacher, named her zelda katherine after katherine johnson a world renowned mathematician and one of the first african american women to work as a nasa scientist. her father, a senior game developer in his own company, picked zelda after one of his all-time favorite video games that inspired him to create his games and company.
it's safe to say they both expected great things from their only child. they'd wanted more, but as time went on and conditions of the world worsened the subsequent attempts failed. this was something that seemed to upset zelda more than her parents growing up, as it always felt incredibly lonely in her world.
school always went well for zelda in terms of performance. she was exceptionally good in science, math, and technology. computers were her top interest, but she also enjoyed her extracurriculars like theater, choir, and track. she even reinstated and led the paranormal club, another hobby of hers that carried on well past high school.
because of their academic prowess they were able to get a scholarship to nyu and mixed with their college fund it was feasible for her to actually go. it was hard to say goodbye to everything she knew but this was a once in a lifetime opportunity and there wasn't anything truly holding them back except maybe her parents. everyone has to leave the nest eventually, right?
zelda had been excited for college, to be out on her own in a big city and with the freedom to meet new people, learn new things, and maybe start building a life. though she always had a problem with dreaming big and reaching for the stars without a space suit on.
some of the things she hoped for came true, she did learn new things. lots of new things. in fact life became a series of lessons, some good and some bad, that never really stopped. unable to blossom in the social department they focused on their studies and it paid off in the form of a paid internship at stoneage industries. it was there they started on a project, creating a replicant code meant to be able to fulfill a hole similar to the one that was in her own family. perhaps even make it so they could age, and develop just like any other human. give them free will which was against the mold but she didn't care.
unfortunately she wasn't as experienced as she should've been in order to be advancing code like she was trying to do. zelda should've stuck to the basics instead of trying to reach for the stars but she didn't, she wanted to do something great ( and if you ask her, she did ). link was great, his code a little off but that's what made him special - he could ( kind of ) think for himself and even if he had a few bugs, it wasn't like she couldn't fix them. all code had bugs to be worked out.
she didn't get a chance to do that at stoneage, however. in fact, the longer she worked for stoneage the more she realized just how barbaric they were. one thing was certain, there was no way she was going to let them destroy her creation brother, just because his code was a little off - she could fix that, she knew she could. he had feelings, he was her family. so, she quit stoneage and declined continuing on in the masters program at school. her and link found an apartment where they could live in peace ( hopefully ).
each of them were able to get a job at godfather house of blues, that way they could each make money and she could keep an eye out for and on link. she made extra money doing hacker/coding work on the side and in her spare time did a lot of ethical hacking, primarily chasing those trying to hurt others, especially the innocents of the world. like link, like she was once upon a time.
it was through that work she was discovered by the executioners. of course she agreed with their cause and while she'd never work for the government again, she would still like to see the crime in the city stop. her days and nights are spent in a roundabout between all these positions, all the while trying to keep blade runners from catching on to them and still attempting to live a normal life. at this point, though, she had no clue what tomorrow would bring.
Tumblr media
QUICK CONNECTIONS.
college friends / rivals
people who knew her when she worked at stoneage
people suspicious of link
fans of jazz music
failed dates ( female only )
best friend (s)
other executioners
replicant sympathizers
Tumblr media
HEADCANONS.
lives in a two bedroom apartment with her brother link. she has outfitted the place with a make-shift security system in an attempt to protect them, though it's always a toss-up if link will remember the code or to set it when he leaves.
she can regularly be found on forums online dedicated to paranormal, aliens, conspiracies, and, of course, replicants. the former items have been a lifelong hobby - the latter has been since she created link. she runs a blog specifically themed to paranormal / alien / cryptid stories, sightings, and reports.
zelda fell out of contact with her parents when things really started going south in the world in terms of environment, etc. they refused to leave roanoke and she is afraid she'll never talk to them again.
her hair changes a lot, color, style, etc. some would think it's to evade anyone looking for her and link, but really it's because it's her way of letting out expression or rebelling against society in general
more coming...

Alright it’s insomnia posting time. I am now half way through Preacher aka the end of season 2 -so however far along you consider that to be. Here’s my thoughts as much as I can coherently relay as of now (I will be using video game metaphors)-
Season one truly does feel like what was meant to be a short tutorial level but developers quickly realized once it hit play testers they had included too much and no one wanted to leave. Therefore they had to force you to leave by blowing up the entire town and 99% of the characters you had grown to care about.
I too would have fallen in love with Tulip bc a) Ruth Negga; b) she’s just the coolest most badass messy women ever.
Jesse is not a good preacher and it is so fucking funny. He’s not terrible, he tries, but he’s just not.
Im gonna stay mad at the insane messy throuple vibes forever. (Do they have the communication skills? Would it be good? Probably not and also maybe that’s one of the reasons it’s so interesting.)
those Angels were fucking right Genesis is not good for a person to have in them. Like it’s clear from the beginning and only gets clearer as time goes on.
All I have to say about Eugene is this poor boy deserves none of this.
this show loves side quests.. Killer of Saints did go somewhere. But. Where it the hell side plot going? (More under the cut)
I think that firmly brings us to season two. Aka. The story kicks off. aka “Jesse having just learned god is missing decides he will find him because that is what the power is for.” (Despite being told it is in fact just the offspring of a demon and Angel that, got out of its prison? Nursery? Sanctuary?)
The second season is basically the main quest needs to be explored but mainly in fetch quests. Meanwhile the player needs most of the parts involving Tulip and Cass so they get the “bad (midpoint) ending”. It’s also apparently an “I’m going to join the evil group despite all evidence that I should not” play through. (I’m ok with this actually it’s just I find putting it that way funny)
Aka. All of these people are very traumatized and secretive. Problems ensue.
On the one hand I get that Cass is probably written as having like attachment issues and stuff. On the other I am reading it fully as he just fell in love with these weirdos and assumes that’s probably not on the table at all but will take whatever he can get.
Tulip deserves far better imho. Just in every aspect of life and storyline.
Jesse clearly suffering from trauma with some symptoms of mania triggered by the immense and inhuman power thrust upon him. Also the severe guilt being reignited by just about the most severe crises of faith. (I’m gonna be real honest I have some half formed thoughts on his trauma, depression, and quite possibly mania)
We all knew Dennis was not going to go well I think and it somehow did go worse. That was not just tragedy but utterly brutal as well in a way that surprised me. Truly believe Cass is probably holding back most of the time -in fact I’m pretty sure it’s firmly implied in the text. So hopefully that goes somewhere.
Jesse the grandson of the swamp witch who does black magic and maybe… voodoo? (I’m sorry that woman looks way to white for that but I admit I’m not well versed in that particular tradition so I will not say more; the show seems to be more focusing in her just being a witch?) (great cutscenes tho)
After they get to new Orlesns the show really becomes “Jesse finds a new cult led by a fascist asshole and uh. Everyone else has fucked up misadventures which Jesse doesn’t appear to even notice most of unless it directly applies to him.” (Aka we are off the group main quest here’s a bunch of individual side quests, decisions matter despite appearing completely unrelated. Will you talk to each other? Btw they do not)
I would be surprised if Jesse remembered who Dennis was by the end tbh. He was not paying attention to anything after they got rid of the Saint of Killers imho with his partners. At the very least I believe it was the last thing he was thinking about.
I am saying partners -yes I am shipper scum get over it- Bc they basically are presented as such by the end of this season. The vibes very much are “bordering on divorce” by the end of the season. Tulip and Cass break up with Jesse, in a diner for joining a weird cult and not paying enough attention to them and being extremely selfish. They are correct imho.
Again Tulip deserves better than this. (Spoiler- I know she gets better. Still. Also I’d have loved to see whoever Jesse actually explained -or perhaps didn’t- his plan to Cass)
they are getting so so divorced broken up and tbh. fair.
“I hate you” delivered in the most… truly trying to just hate him and not being able to way imho.
time for under the cut stuff
So the big points here are- does Preacher deal with fascists and specifically Nazis well? Tbh, I’m not sure it does but I’ve seen much worse.
First we have Herr Starr who is at minimum an authoritarian and I would go as far to say fascist. I’d go as far to say the Grail is heavily fascist leaning. Most of the Grail is just embarrassingly incompetent. Whereas Herr Starr despite the “funny problems” -tbh I was not really amused personally by “lol one of the idiot agents though he wanted a gay gang bang”. Its 2017 why? Who was like “yea let’s do that”. (I have several guesses) Anyway to put it very simply I think he’s just a bit… too cool? Now I admit his main character traits seem to be a deeply selfish desire for power for himself perhaps? I still think he’s a fascist but maybe other have a different read and I’m willing to hear it I guess?
Hitler. Why is he here? Is this necessary? On the other hand it’s a bold move and I could see them doing some subversive and cathartic stuff with him but I admit my own bias of having a strong disgust factor over… just the character. However he sucks, and everyone else except the nicest naivest person in hell agrees, which makes it tolerable.

6:30pm.  10/7/ 2006 At Flix. An Omaha Gay Bar Cute bar tender. Music Videos. Kind of a classic gay bar. Like the Brave Bull Bar  on 9th Street in Modesto. LOUD TV. Smell of old booze and cigarettes. Ash Trays! I guess people can smoke here. No gay newspapers around. Only 2 other guys here. American Idol is on TV.
Oh my Go! The reunion was “Relative Hell! Ahhhhh!
Really bad idea.
I stayed 3 hours. Others were jumping ship left and right. When it came time for me to go, Mom said tensely “Stay longer”. Me “No”. It was leading into watching  a Nebraska Football Game.  Ahhhh!
So, the big line up—Cousin David.Heavy set, balding, tiny bit of grey hair. He was nice but distant. (David is 6 months older than me). I’d rather recall him at 18 than as he is now. At 18, he was handsome and in shape. I can kind of still see his younger self in his features. Hear it in the voice. But, God,the impact of on youth and beauty of time’s odd wand. He gave me a Blanche DVD which I left there! ( Our Aunt Blanche was a nurse during WWII who served in Europe. I think the DVD was about that.  She was one of my mothers older sisters) I just wanted to leave. Cousin Ruth Ann was fun! Sparkly. (10 years older than me) The twin Iowa cousins were friendly and fun. Diane and Debby. (One year older than me)
Everybody there was 50 plus. 50 equaled you were a baby. Lee was 88. Ruby and Mildred, in their 80’s. (Aunts and an Uncle)
Were the cousins happy to see me? That I don’t know. They never mentioned once anything about me being gay. They never asked how Jim, my partner,  was doing. I asked cousin Dave how many kids he had. David “4”. He asked not one thing about my life.
So, hold it. Hold on. Where’d this all come from anyway? This cousin’s reunion stuff? Why did I fly back to Nebraska for this? I’m leaning toward making a statement. NO
At the brunch the next day at the convalescent hospital Blanch was living in, Cousin Jim and his wife Marsha was there. Marsha was cold. Cousin Jim was horrified to learn I don’t computer, Cousin Jim “I spend all day on mine.” Cousin Marilyn “What do you do in old town Omaha last night?” Me (un said) “I do queer, gay, bohemian unmentionable things.”
Nobody gets it. I need Lew time. This is not a good time.
I thought it was interesting that Cousin Jim wanted to know “What did you do last night?”. And perhaps, even more amazing I told him , "I went to gay bars".
Cousin Jim asked “What’s a lawyer’s life really like? Is it like CSI?” Mom answered “He doesn’t watch it” I said “CSI is phony. Made up. It’s theater." I told them that I had just competed a murder jury trial back in California and that the jury was still out (they were out for 3 1/2 weeks before declaring they could not reach a verdict) Regarding the trial, I said “You are lucky that we are in deliberation and not earlier in the trial or I would have brought the autopsy pictures. I brought them to Mom’s last family party.”
Cousin Jim, when pressed by his sister Ruth Ann (both about 10 years older than me) “do you want to be cremated. He replied “I don’t care. I want to be mixed in the paint and painted on the bedroom ceiling.” They did Blanche’s will last night. How odd. Jim and I just did our wills.
Blanche was quite and peaceful (She was born in 1914). I think that she got what she wanted. Her family together. As I said to Jim on the phone later (He was at home in Modesto) “If Mom and Blanche are happy, so am I.”
End of entry
Margin notes in the journal re:above entry
10/7/06. Flix Bar  Omaha “To be in a gay bar watching American Idol while the Nebraska Iowa game is on is sacrilege.” ___________________________
11/08/2006.  Basically, I took a vacation. A get away. They resent it. Coming and saying “Hi” wasn’t enough. Well, that’s all I had. It’s what I wanted. If there is so much interest in me, why so much dead space? Years worth of no contact with them.

13: the entire Barbeque monologue scene. Me and my friends (who are all also Hatchetfield fans) spontaneously burst out in ‘my barbeque’ chains
14: If I loved you reprise. I listened back to it with a friend recently and I almost cried only listening to the song
15: Blinky!
16: Me and my friends are all obsesses with the Hatchetfield series, to the point we’re planning a school activity based on it, we’re doing choreography and constantly playing soundtracks or quoting. We can randomly start bursting out in song. Thank the universe we go to a school for autistic kids or we would soooo get bullied!

1. Who's your favorite character and why? So I don't.... have one. I have a lot of characters that I like hyperfixate on? But I don't necessarily think I have a favorite. I definitely do have favorites but not one in particular. So like Ollie, Roy, Mia, Connor, Dinah, Emi, Jade, David, Pietro, Wanda, Terry, Kurt, etc.
2. Who's your favorite supporting character and why?
I don't.... think I actually tend to classify characters as "supporting characters" to me they're all just.... characters, but uh... Shado.
3. Who's your favorite comics hero/sidekick duo?
GREEN ARROW AND SPEEDY
4. answered already!
6. Who's a character you love seeing interacting with Green Arrow?
for Ollie I LOVE seeing him interact with Shado- and for Connor I really like seeing him interact with his civilian family and Master Jansen!
11. already answered!
14. What's your favorite thing about character Green Arrow?
for Ollie I love all of his contradictions, they make such a fun character, and for Connor I just really adore the depth to his character, how strong he is and his constant desire to be better and do better in really meaningful ways
20. If you were given a comic run for character Green Arrow, what would you write about?
Definitely a book with both Connor and Ollie teaming up as Green Arrow and sort of them working to find a balance in that dynamic for sure, definitely push and pull in their methods of being Green Arrow, sort of showcasing how they learn from each other
21. Share a favorite piece of comics lore.
GA writers have been investigated by the CIA :)
24. What's your favorite crossover event?
I'm really fond of the Battle of Muir Island, which is apparently a lot more niche than I thought it was
26. If you got sucked into a comic, which one would you pick?
uh..... this would end HORRIBLY FOR ME, but Once and Future
29. What are some of your favorite comics blogs?
definitely @batphobique @lomakes @cissie-queen-jones @zibah-ho and @lesbianspeedy plus more friends but is late and I am bad at remembering urls
30. What's been a good change to comics status quo?
definitely hit or miss but greater understandings of mental health and the inclusion of more diverse characters - I am NOT saying these are always done well, but just the fact that they're existing is something that gives me more hope for the Big 2 especially
31. Shine a light on a character you think deserves more love.
JAY GUTHRIE AND RUTH ALDINE
32. Who are two characters you'd like to see interact more?
DAVID HALLER AND ERIK MAGNUS LEHNSHERR
33. What's your favorite tv show adaptation?
X-Men: Evolution babey
34. What's your favorite movie adaptation?
It has SO MANY FAULTS but the vibes of X-Men First Class were immaculate (also X-2)
35. What's your favorite video game adaptation?
much to the chagrin of my boyfriend and my students, I do not play video games nor am I super into watching other people play video games
37. Any characters you used to dislike but now you like? What changed your mind?
I used to really not like Pyro, but I'd only seen him in the movies and in X-Men: Evo, but I just came to really enjoy him in the comics, all it took was actually reading lol
38. What's your favorite comic book trope?
"Any last words?" being said by an adversary and then their opponent not dying- it gets me every time
41. What's a comic that keeps on giving (you enjoy rereading)?
Green Arrow: Quiver, but issue specific Legion of X #6
42. What comic had the best characterization of Green Arrow?
For Ollie it's O'Neil or Grell, and for Connor it's Dixon
48. What's your favorite elseworld/AU story?
I've never really been into elseworlds like I like making my own AUs and such, but idk... I'm a canon compliance bitch they're just not my thing
50. Share anything you'd like to about a character of your choice - a favorite fic, comic panel, an original work you made, anything!
okay so I bought this super awesome sticker of David holding his father's skull with a Hamlet reference on it and I've had to explain the context to at least 10 of my coworkers and it never gets old

Is it ok if I request a fluff song fic for a kenma x reader where the reader has had a crush on kenma when they were kids and the reader accidentally confesses their feeling for kenma with this song?
Title: Wishing
Note: Hello! Yep, of course! I hope you’re okay with me doing childhood friends to lovers, so let’s get started!
Song: Dandelions (Ruth B.)
-
Childhood memories were full of laughter, friends, summers full of playing and occasionally sleepovers. There was always one friend that you’d care about more than anyone else and that was the one friend you could count on and them on you. For Kenma, that person was Y/N.
Y/N was his best friend since they were little. Kuroo had been his other best friend, but the one Kenma counted on when it came to video games was her. She always offered a good challenge and he couldn’t deny it when he said that he had fun with her. On the days where their breaks had started, they’d spend a lot of time together, enjoying each other’s company.
Through the years, they changed but their friendship never once wavered. They had gone to Nekoma High School and Kenma was known to have Y/N hanging around him while he was just quiet. It was strange to a lot of people, but Y/N didn’t think anything of it. Kenma was her best friend. Who was she to leave him behind if someone said something bad about her?
“Kenma, have you been fighting with Yamamoto again?” Y/N sighed as she sidled up next to him at lunch. She already had his food packed, seeing as he forgot it and she set it in front of him. “You need to eat.”
“He started it,” Kenma grumbled, thinking about the fight he had had with Yamamoto earlier. He was barely a first year and he was already on someone’s bad side.
Y/N picked at her food, thinking before laughing, “You two are going to give poor Fukunaga white hairs before he’s supposed to. You’re teammates, try to get along.”
With an expression of disbelief, Kenma replied, “Didn’t you get into a huge argument with Kuroo because he wasn’t doing what you told him to do?”
“In my defense, it was air hockey! How do you fail at air hockey?! I was just giving him tips, but he said he could do it himself and the idiot didn’t let me help him!”
Kenma’s hair fell, shielding the side of his face from her. It was a good thing because he had a smile at the time. Kuroo and Y/N were friends but there were times where it was clear that they’d strangle each other if it wasn’t for Kenma. At least they tried.
When Yamamoto had told him that he looked like the girl from the Ring with that dark hair of his, he resorted to dying to tips blond, making him look completely different. Going to Y/N’s house for their scheduled study session, she had screamed at the sight of him before quieting down when she realized it was just him. Trying to explain to her what had happened, Kenma knew that she was internally laughing and he was grumbling the entire time before they got down to studying.
What Kenma didn’t know was that Y/N was slowly coming to the realization that she was having feelings for him. She was having feelings for her best friend and she wasn’t ready to face them up front. After all, if Kenma rejected her, they wouldn’t be able to go back to their friendship. That was the one thing she couldn’t bear to lose. Kenma was her best friend since forever and she wouldn’t allow her feelings to get in the way of that.
In their second year, it was clear to Kuroo that Y/N had feelings for him. Instead of teasing her about it like he wanted, he decided to pull her aside after school. “Can we talk?”
“Whatever I did, it’s not my fault, you made me do it.”
Rolling his eyes, he waved Kenma forward, saying that he’d return Y/N afterwards. He led her to a secluded place and crossed his arms across his chest, raising an eyebrow at Y/N. “Do you have a crush on Kenma?”
Her heart dropped. It was that obvious? “No, definitely not--”
“You’re doing the thing where you’re lying.” Kuroo smiled gently at her, shrugging his shoulders. “I mean, with the friendship you two have had, I expected it. But how long ago did you realize?”
“First year. Just...don’t tell him. Please. I don’t want to lose him because of my feelings for him, I couldn’t bear to have that. Kuroo, please don’t tell him.”
“I won’t. But you never know, maybe he’s just good at hiding the mutual feelings.”
If he had feelings for her, he hid it better than anything. Kenma did have feelings for her and he decided to put it aside because of the same Y/N was sparing hers for him. They didn’t want to lose each other, not after so many years being inseparable. If the rejection was too much for both of them to handle, who knew what’d happen to the both of them.
Wishes were made by the both of them, hoping that the other would return the feelings with some sort of miracle. Whenever one of them saw the other smiling, they’d feel much more comforted in the end. It was hard to hide it from other people, it was like everyone knew about their feelings for one another except them. They were friends for a long time so the affection they had for one another did not seem romantic whatsoever, it was only seen as platonic for the both of them.
The years kept going by and now they were in college, Kenma rising to the top faster than ever. He was already preparing his new company and was a famous Youtuber as well as a professional gamer. It seemed like he had everything figured out. The one thing that never changed was Y/N. They were both still pining after one another and it was driving everyone around them insane to know that no matter what, they’d be so utterly oblivious to their discreet ways of showing romantic love to one another.
The first strike was during Kenma’s stream. He had been playing a game and Y/N had gone to his house because she had a key for his place (Kuroo was on the verge of tears when he heard this, he couldn’t believe she didn’t know what that meant). Walking into his room, she asked, “Kenma, where’s the jacket?”
“Which jacket?” Kenma was focused on his game, but his mind was whirring as to try and figure out what she was talking about. “Yours or mine?”
“Mine, I’m pretty sure I left it here. I’m cold.”
“You can take one of my jackets--” Kenma paused at the sight of the screen’s comments going wild from the conversation. So many of them were asking if that was Kenma’s girlfriend, what her name was and others were just screaming about the revelation. “Guys, this isn’t my girlfriend, she’s just my best friend.”
Y/N’s heart froze at that sentence. He clearly didn’t see her as anything more than a friend. But it was also quite common because Kenma had always called her his best friend. So why did it hurt more now? However, she made sure not to let that hurt show as she tugged on one of Kenma’s hoodies, bringing up a chair next to him. “Can I stay?”
“Of course you can stay.” He paused at the sight of her in his hoodie, his own heart rate increasing and it was clear to everyone else that he was head over heels for her, except her. She didn’t notice. This drove the Nekoma team insane, considering they watched a lot of Kenma’s streams. Yamamoto literally said something along the lines of them to date already because no one wanted a 500k slowburn and if they did, they were masochistic. Luckily, the rest of the comments drowned out that one comment or else Kenma and Y/N would’ve sat in awkward silence.
“Kenma, you’re going to lose!” Y/N said, gesturing at the screen.
Quickly turning to his game, he continued talking and playing, all too aware of Y/N next to him in his hoodie. He decided to play with her in the next stream, seeing that a lot of the followers liked her. When he asked, she eagerly agreed and left with his hoodie on. Kenma sat in his gamer chair, staring at the wall. How could he find out if she shared the same feelings for him as he did for her without any consequences?
The day of reckoning arrived for Y/N. She decided to talk to him and tell him because it was already driving her insane to know that her feelings hadn’t faded away through the years at all, they just increased. Picnic dates were Kenma’s favorite thing to do with her, so she chose to take him to their favorite spot and confess there.
Both of them were going to the place and before long, they were joking around and laughing like they did before. Y/N almost forgot the reason why she had invited him until Kenma asked, “Why’d you invite me here? I mean, I don’t mind but usually it’s because something big is coming up. Is something wrong?” He knew her better than anyone else and it made her glow internally.
Staring at the landscape before them, covered with thousands of dandelions. The reason why it was Kenma’s favorite place was because of his quiet fondness for dandelions. When they were younger, Y/N and Kenma would make flower crowns of dandelions and put them on one another. He never got the hang of it, but he wore his crown the entire time and even kept it afterwards. He was always sad when they wilted away but she told him that she could make some more for him. That was when they found the hill with the scenery of dandelions. It became Kenma’s favorite place and he found it to be much better when Y/N was at his side.
Y/N gathered up all her courage to say the next words. “I brought you here because I wanted to tell you something. I don’t know how to say it subtly but I don’t think subtle will work here. I like you, Kenma. I have for a long time, I can’t even remember how long it’s been. Originally, I didn’t want to tell you because maybe we’d lose our friendship, yet it’s been years. I had to tell you at some point. But if you don’t return those feelings, it’s okay. We can try to go back to our friendship.”
Kenma could have combusted right then and there from the confession. She liked him. She liked him back. All this time, those times she had been affectionate with him, it wasn’t platonic. He had been blind to it and thought that it was like any other day. Reaching for her hand, he mumbled, “I didn’t want to tell you for the same reason, but I like you too. I have for a while now and I didn’t want to believe it when people told me about you.”
Y/N turned to face him and saw the small smile on Kenma’s face. She inhaled sharply as she stared at their entwined hands. It wasn’t a dream. It was real. Placing her head on his shoulder, she reached for his other hand and when she squeezed his hand, it gave him the answer he needed. Leaning his head on hers, he just barely turned to give her the smallest kiss on the side of her head, causing her heart to race as they both gazed at the yellow field before them. It was the happiest they had been and it was because of each other.
“I think Kuroo’s going to scream when he finds out.” Y/N mumbled.
Kenma sighed, realizing that she was right. The entire team would lose their heads at the news. However, instead of thinking about that, he wrapped his arms around her and replied, “We’ll worry about that later.” His embrace made it clear that what he wanted to do more was stay in that moment with her. He loved her more than what he thought he did. Just being in that picturesque scene was enough for him to confirm it internally. It wasn’t time yet to say those three words, but within time, he’d be able to say it easily because it was her.  They felt safer with each other than with anyone else and they knew one another like the backs of their hands. It was enough for both of them.
No matter what would’ve happened, they would always choose each other. Kenma knew that he’d choose her over anyone and with that thought in mind, he let everything else disappear and only concentrated on her comforting warmth, finally feeling happy after a long time.

I'll never sign up for reddit but I like fds too! since it's the only place on reddit where women can only comment. On posts that highlight lvm and misogyny it's nice not to read male opinions that will always favor the abuser and ignore the women victimized by them. Or they vaguely say under an article about rapists getting no jail "wow people suck :(" like no. Name the problem. Lvm dont just suck. They're a danger. And it's a nice place to read how to you should never lower your standards while dating because having a baby with the wrong person (like a guy who thinks it's so funny to play video games and ignore you while you're in labor) is worse than having no baby. And I love how critical they are of porn, porn use in males, anti sex work as its exploitative, and overall critical of hookup culture that has never benefited women. I hope more women wake up, raise their standards and live like a queen by making their own money. Financial independence should never be sacrificed. It's what keeps you safe from abusers who want to trap you. Is fds perfect? Nothing is but it sure is nicer than the sludge of reddit's other subs 🤷🏾‍♀️
"it's a nice place to read how to you should never lower your standards while dating because having a baby with the wrong person (like a guy who thinks it's so funny to play video games and ignore you while you're in labor) is worse than having no baby"
GIIIIRL The horror stories I've read on this sub, I- Deadbeat fathering x1000000
Yeah I'm not ashamed I've been browsing on this sub regularly and I don't see where the hate is coming from (mostly from tradfem). It's very sad to see that whenever women are unapologetic to set their boundaries, standards or preference, they almost automatically get labelled as "gold digger" "manipulative" "bossy".... when they're just minding their business and don't abuse anyone.
Not every woman wants to be married to leave her familial home, so yes, I think it's a good thing there is a scene for this category of women who want to learn to manage their budget and optimize their celibate lifestyle. Contrary to the popular belief, FDS isn't only for rich or wanting to be rich women lol Learning to be savvy in social/romantic relationships is useful for ALL women.
And yes, even Christian women. We have to be mindful on how to choose one for marriage. As I always said, having standards is not a bad thing. I'm not going to marry someone just because he's just a nice Christian man. Not all Christians men are equal (i.e regarding their worth for marriage). Do I have to remind you who Ruth married? Boaz was no dusty broke man💀 This girl knew what she was doing👑 (by definition, Ruth did an hypergamy move)
It legitimately pains me to see how low the bar for Christian men has become....

"Ethan Payne?" The woman asked causing Ethan to squint at her.
"Who's asking?"
"Um, there's no easy way to put this but-" The woman took a deep breath. "I'm your sister. My name is Naya."
"I - um-" Ethan struggled for words and instead he spat, "What the fuck?"
"I know this might come as a shock but my dad cheated on my mum with yours and I-" Naya sighed. "You don't look like him."
"I'll take that as a compliment."
"You should. He's a complete asshole." Naya snorted.
"Such an asshole!" Ethan agreed, barking out a laugh. They continued laughing until Ethan asked, "So, how did you find me?"
"Your mum still knows my mum and they talked. She was going to tell you but I said that I wanted to meet you myself." Naya took a seat next to Ethan. "Your mum is amazing, by the way. She took everything in her stride, a lot better than my mum."
"Did you keep his last name?"
"As if! There's no way I wanted to be associated with that asshole." She chuckled. "Naya Lounds." She stuck her hand out and Ethan shook it, smiling softly at her.
"So did he leave you too?" Ethan asked.
"Yup. After my mum found out that he had another son and she kicked him out. I don't remember much. I was like seven and all I could remember was the two of them yelling about some woman he had knocked up when I was two." Naya took a sip of her drink. "I saw him on birthdays  and shit until I was eighteen and then I told him that I never wanted to see his ass again."
"Oh, shit." Ethan chuckled dryly.
"So, do you have any stories about the old man?" Naya asked.
"Nothing really. Mum made it clear she wasn't having him around. He forgot my name and mum went ballistic!"
"Holy shit! What an asshole!" Naya chuckled. "Big up your mum though. She's got to be one of the strongest women I've ever met."
"She's the strongest." Ethan smiled.
"Ethan?" Josh called. "Mate, we're ditching this place and going to the pub across the street."
"Okay, just give me a second." Ethan smiled and quickly pulled out his phone. "Put your number in and we can talk about this more."
The friendship group waited outside for their friend. The tattooed man wandered out the door, smiling softly at the men.
"Get her number?" Simon commented, raising his eyes suggestively.
"It's not like that!" Ethan scoffed at his older friend. "She's family. Someone I haven't really known."
All his friends glanced at one and other trying to figure out what was going on. But, with the alcohol buzzing in their system, they shrugged it off and made their way to the next pub.
Over the next month and a half, the siblings quickly got to know each other, swapping stories from their childhood, explaining their jobs, and discussing their passions. They started to meet up weekly, text everyday. The two of them had lost so much and they were determined not to lose each other.
Then, Ethan realised he hadn't even told his closest friends about the new development in his life. So, he called Naya and told her to get ready to meet the six craziest people she'd ever meet.
So, the next week, Ethan placed the floor, biting his nails as his friends watched him from the couch.
"You have nothing to be nervous about," Josh said softly.
"Yeah, we're just meeting your friend, right?" Simon said. "I will say, this is a bit formal for us to meet a friend."
"I need to-" Ethan started and the doorbell echoed throughout the flat.
He bit his lip and walked over to the door, taking a deep breath before he opened it wide.
"Naya." He breathed out, pulling her into a hug.
"Hey. It's good to see you." Naya smiled, pulling away. "Are you friends here already?"
"Yeah. They're in the living room." Ethan shut the door behind her and guided her to the living room.
"Boys, this is Naya." Ethan took a deep breath. "My sister."
There was a moment of silence as everyone tried to grasp the new information.
"Sister?" JJ sputtered.
"Well, half-sister, technically." Naya chuckled awkwardly.
"I'm so confused," Harry muttered.
"It's nice to meet you guys, Ethan talks about you a lot. It's nice to put faces to names." Naya said kindly. "I know you must have a lot of questions and as I said to Ethan, I will happily answer them the best as I can."
"Your half-siblings?" Simon clarified. "Like through your dad or-"
"Yep," Naya said. "We have the same asshole dad."
Ethan laughed quietly.
"And how are we supposed to know that you aren't some crazy fan?" Josh asked, squinting.
"I've seen the birth certificate. And my mum confirmed it." Ethan explained. "I saw a photo of her and my dad."
"How long have you known that you were siblings?" Tobi asked
"Oh well, I found out a few years ago that I might have half-siblings but I never wanted to know about know my family through my dad. But I got curious and my mum had met Ruth through a friend and so I asked. And I put off meeting him for a long time, I didn't want to fuck up his life and I was worried he'd be like our dad." Naya shrugged slightly.
"Have you ever seen the video of Ethan smashing a controller into his desk when he got pissed off at a game?" JJ asked.
"No!" Naya barked out a laugh. "Please show me!"
"Or the time he almost broke his neck attempting a bicycle kick?" Harry exclaimed.
"Why didn't I know about these?" Naya laughed, shoving Ethan jokingly.
"That's not exactly the first impression I wanted to leave." Ethan snorted.
"Really? I think that's a really good way to know you." Naya argued jokingly.
"I like her already!" Tobi laughed loudly.
"Aye, my sister is off-limits!" Ethan yelled and yeah, he could get used to saying that.

Doctor who thoughts! I just have to get this out of my system every week and it's easier for you for me to put it in one post. I actually wrote this when I was watching it first time round.
Wow, Bel! I know a Bel. Nice to see some Bel rep
Those are... kind of proper daleks? Not quite? They're a little shiny, I don't know.
That was so clearly a bad idea why would you walk out in the open like that
Oh, speaking of which, even more characters. Yay. I wouldn't be usually concerned but Chris always just puts too many in then they don't get enough time.
I quite like this internal monologue, I don't know.
If that's the fucking time vortex I'm going to murder someone
Okay it's not
I love how she just shouts 'no!' because she hasn't even learnt his name yet
Wait!!!! Parallel universe doctor???? Kind of???
Why does Dan get to be a companion while what's his name doesn't
Oh no I'm confused now. What is happening.
I like Diane. Shame she'll be dead soon.
Ooh big forest of the dead vibes here. I bet it won't be as interesting but hopefully less creepy
Wow BIG forest of the dead vibes
WAIT OH MY GOD I okay this is kind of cool.
Shipping Yaz and her hypothetical police partner who wipes salad dressing off her cheek
I like the hall but it doesn't look like Gallifrey. I thought he was from Gallifrey
The grand serpent. That sounds cool.
Thing is you can't say ravagers and not expect me to think of Minecraft things
Yay! I heard swarm and azura weren't going to be in this episode.
Ruth doctor! Oh wait this. I forgot this story was going to be resolved.
We've covered this doc. You've had your memories wiped.
Yes you do have a lot to figure out there's only three and a half episodes left and you have so much to sort out
Oh him. We gonna find anything out about him this time???
That dude is high af
I don't like the blue swarm (oh. Swarm.) it looks like someone's not animated it properly idk.
I still don't really get what the flux is. Am I meant to?
Those Cybermen are in such shoddy lines. They would march in better lines than that.
Tigmi is going to murder someone at some point.
Go onnn who's she talking to
Oh my god I love the grand serpent I bet he's only going to be in this episode I hate that.
Chibnall can really write those queercoded villains huh. He's really worked that out.
Oh why can't Sonya just like video games??
Future??? Cool
Why is this bit with the angels in the video game actually hilarious for some reason
Stfu Sonya Yaz just broke your Playstation or something
Wait why does swarm look like that, I don't like that. Is that even swarm. Where's my sexy swarm. I don't want old swarm
No I do not understand what passenger is
Oh thank you for that exposition Chris.
*chanting* Shada! Shada! Shada! (I know it's not going to be)
I don't like this anthropisation of time.
Swarm what the actual fuck are you talking about
Why is Azure still kinda sexy but swarm isn't.
This gives me the vibes of that dalek prison from you know that one
Okay but I feel like the Mouri might actually be bad? Like imprisoning time sounds like a bad thing idk?
No! Bel! I care more about them than most of the main characters. I really like their ship too.
Why do the Cybermen have spikes on their shoulders 😂
Hang on how has Bel gotten the Cybermen to talk?
Yeah Bel we're aware of the flaw in the (primarily dalek) plan
Oh I wanted a handles situation.
They never said a gender or even that it's romantic so I'm expecting a 'plot twist' with Bel
I'm just watching Vinder being like 'I would never argue with the fucking evil dictator you fucking idiot'
VINDER YOU IDIOT FUCK YOUR OATH
Okay at least he regrets it he's not so much of an idiot.
This is fairly clunky Vinder backstory but I don't mind it.
Vinder if you have kids I'm going to be very mad at you doing what you did.
DAN KARVINISTA SOULMATES I'M SORRY
Doctor you've already had this character arc twice now.
I think they can force you out they pretty much are time.
Ooh exposition time
I like this woman she seems cool.
Okay this is giving me crack vibes and it took me about five years after the end for me to understand that.
Doc don't be mean to Yaz. Fuck you.
Yay! Sexy swarm is back!
Oh I really hate this space v time shit it makes zero sense.
Yaz has been wearing the same outfit for three episodes now which I'm grateful for because it's a great outfit.
Okay he's not a time lord then. Shame.
Wait he might be
Okay he isn't.
Stfu doc be nice to Yaz
TRIANGLES!
Ooh. Wait it was just a romantic relationship with a man. Ah well I like Bel anyway, that's fine. Her and Vinder would be sweet. Vinder is kind of annoying but hey.
Oh my god that fucking exposition tho.
Wait that means he won't have a romantic storyline with Yaz! Result.
Yaz is playing that new phone game about the weeping angels. I played it, it's quite good.
Again, the weeping angels just piloting the TARDIS is weirdly hilarious.
Claire in the past! Period clothing! Awesome. I love period clothing.

I just got all overheated all of a sudden. But I have had an excellent day. Just top notch. And I feel really happy.
I slept a little better last night but it was still hard. I think our boxspring is broken and it makes my side of the bed angle towards the wall and its not comfortable at all. But there's nothing to be done about that right now.
I woke up this morning and took my time getting out of bed. I loved my outfit today. This dress is excellent. I am not sure if its a nightgown but I think it might be. But it has pockets and its so good. I felt really cute.
And I was excited for our day. James made me an omelet and we wasted some time until 10 when it was time to go.
We were going to the zoo today. And I was surprised how long the line to get in was, but we weren't in a rush. We had free tickets from the BMI so I was just happy to be there. Everyone there had a child under the age of 4. It was very cute. We kept joking we were looking out for someone else without kids but I don't think we found any that we were sure about.
It wasn't very busy though. A solid group of people. We had a nice chat with the line manager about Babe Ruth because he used to work at that museum. He was really nice and very quickly we were in the zoo, no fuss at all.
I had a great time. We saw the praire dogs first. Super cute, so small. And then we got to do the main walk which just opened after like a decade of being closed. It is where all the Victorian style cages are and it was fascinating to see. They were using two for temporary housing for an owl and a porcupine. But it was interesting to see the photos of animals in the cages in the past and reading the stories of people who remember it. Im excited we got to see that.
I honestly had some of my favorite animal experiences today in recent zoo memory. Like I always love going to the zoo, but there were so many actually doing stuff today! Eating and fighting and running and being animals. They weren't just sleeping. I don't know if it was the weather or the time. But it was great. We got to see the penguins get fed first thing. And then walked the Maryland habitats.
James was so cute about loving birds. We had lots of joking and playing around. It was so beautiful and I was having so much fun.
Seeing the otters was a highlight. They are James's favorite and seeing them get excited and amazed was awesome. And my favorite was the chimps. They had 3 babies!! And they were climbing around and jumping and it was great. I felt so excited and it was just so amazing.
The whole place was great though. There were changes from the last time I was there. Animals in different places, areas open that weren't before, others that were closed. I was sad that the polar bears are leaving so they weren't out. But the grizzlies were going wild and it was amazing to see.
We had a little lunch and took a photobooth photos. I loved walking around and seeing everything. We were there for over 3 hours. I was a bit exhausted by the end. But in a good and happy way. We stopped at the gift shop, but to look. But it was time to go home.
We got back home and I changed into a sweatshirt. And James helped me bring down the camp matress so I can bring it with me tomorrow to my parents. I want to see if it makes sleeping the car nicer for me and Jess's little trip next week. And I made sure my bag was packed properly. James played video games for a little and I did a little cleaning. Before they headed to their parent's house to do laundry. For like 5 hours. I felt super bad they had to be gone so lone. And its literally still not done. They had to bring one bag home to dry and we still have two bags left. Ugh.
I appreciate them doing that though. I really hope they get the machines here fixed because this has been so annoying.
While James was gone I watched videos. I had soup. I did some cleaning. I played with sweetP. I did the dishes. I laid around. I did styling. I actually did a lot of that, I was pretty proud of myself. But I mostly just wanted James to come home.
And finally, now they are. We put all the clean stuff away together and now James is watching the football game and Im going to go shower.
Tomorrow I am going to my parents and then me and Jess are getting tattoos in the afternoon!! I am excited. I hope it is fun. I don't know which one of us is going first. We are each getting two, but she is only charging for one each. Its going to be great.
Sleep well everyone. Take care of yourselves!! Goodnight!

Bo Burnham: Inside - Existing in a Digital Purgatory
For the majority of its duration, “White Woman’s Instagram”—a song penned by Bo Burnham for Inside, his self-produced Netflix comedy special—follows the same basic structure as Billy Joel’s “We Didn’t Start the Fire” and R.E.M.’s “It’s the End of the World as We Know It (and I Feel Fine)”: a list of vaguely related concepts interspersed with an infectiously catchy chorus. For example:
Latte foam art. Tiny pumpkins.
Fuzzy, comfy socks.
A coffee table made out of driftwood.
A bobblehead of Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
A needlepoint of a fox.
Some random quote from Lord of the Rings
Incorrectly attributed to Martin Luther King.
Tumblr media
The third verse, however, features a jarring twist on the formula:
Her favorite photo of her mom.
The caption says:
‘I can't believe it;
It's been a decade since you've been gone.
Momma, I miss you;
I miss sitting with you in the front yard.
Still figuring out how to keep living without you.
It's got a little better, but it's still hard.
Momma, I got a job I love and my own apartment;
Momma, I got a boyfriend, and I'm crazy about him.
Your little girl didn't do too bad.
Momma, I love you. Give a hug and kiss to Dad.'
It’s a sobering reminder that there are actual human beings on the other side of every social media interaction. “Influencers” and “e-celebrities” are not solely defined by their heavily-filtered photographs and vapid “philosophical” musings; as easy as it is to mock them for their shallow materialism and obsession with “clout,” they are still people—they have families, hopes, ambitions, anxieties, and regrets.
Of course, this epiphany is swiftly forgotten with the very next line: “A goat-cheese salad.” Such is the fickle nature of the digital age.
Tumblr media
Although it would be an exaggeration to claim that Inside is about the internet, it’s certainly a major recurring theme, from the songs (which elevate such mundane tasks as sexting and FaceTime conversations to epic proportions) to the various skits and sketches (which adopt the styles of popular YouTube formats, such as “Reaction Videos” and “Let’s Plays”). The film was, after all, created during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, when laptops and smartphones served as the only genuinely “safe” windows to the outside world—an avenue of escape that soon became a claustrophobic prison in its own right.
Burnham expresses this fundamental paradox most clearly in “Welcome to the Internet”, which personifies the World Wide Web as a cross between Mephistopheles and a sleazy used car salesman. While the offer of unlimited access to “everything all of the time” is initially tempting, it demands a steep toll (“Show us pictures of your children, / Tell us every thought you think”). Additionally, too much exposure to the information superhighway quickly leads to sensory overload; the whiplash-inducing tonal dissonance of the lyrics is humorous (“Would you like to see the news / Or any famous women's feet?”) and disturbing (“Here's a tip for straining pasta, / Here's a nine-year-old who died”) in equal measure—and as the tempo of the music gradually increases, it veers into outright horror:
Here's a healthy breakfast option;
You should kill your mom.
Here's why women never fuck you;
Here's how you can build a bomb.
Which Power Ranger are you?
Take this quirky quiz.
Obama sent the immigrants to vaccinate your kids!
Tumblr media
There’s a remote possibility that this relentless barrage of mental imagery isn’t universally relatable, but I’d wager that it comes pretty damn close. It’s definitely reminiscent of my own browsing habits during quarantine: binging each week’s newest streaming “content,” reading about the latest protests (which usually ended with either incidents of police brutality or justified use of force, depending on the news source), and passively watching clips of VTubers and video game speedruns. When one is deprived of any semblance of a daily schedule, “everything all of the time” is a bottomless pit—a ceaseless, joyless, emotionally numb cycle of clicking, consuming, and moving on to the next link.
A digital purgatory in which one ceases to truly live… and instead merely exists.

The argument against confirming Donald Trump’s nominee to the Supreme Court before the inauguration is a Republican argument. They invented it, they enacted it, and they own it. That’s because it was Republicans, not Democrats, who changed the number of Supreme Court justices from nine to eight for 10 months in 2016, when a Democratic president was in the White House. It was Republicans who argued that no Supreme Court nominee should even be considered by the Senate in an election year. And it was Republicans who promised to block the confirmation of Hillary Clinton’s Supreme Court nominees in the event that she became president while Republicans retained control of the Senate.

And that argument is simply untenable. We do not have a legitimate third branch of government if only one party gets to choose its members.

Vaccine Advocacy From Hannity And Mcconnell Gets The Media Off Republicans’ Backs But Won’t Shift Public Sentiment
Sean Hannity, Mitch McConnell and Tucker Carlson
Amid a rising media furor over the steady stream of vaccine disparagement from GOP politicians and Fox News talking heads, a number of prominent Republicans spoke up in favor of vaccines early this week.
On Tuesday, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell told reporters, “shots need to get in everybody’s arm as rapidly as possible” and asked that people “ignore all of these other voices that are giving demonstrably bad advice.” House Minority Whip Rep. Steve Scalise of Louisiana, got the vaccine after months of delay and then publicly said, “there shouldn’t be any hesitancy over whether or not it’s safe and effective.” And Fox News host Sean Hannity, in a widely shared video, declared, it “absolutely makes sense for many Americans to get vaccinated.” This was treated in the press as an unequivocal endorsement, even though the use of the word “many” was clearly meant to let the Fox News viewers feel like he’s talking about other people getting vaccinated.
Is this an exciting pivot among the GOP elites?  Are they abandoning the sociopathic strategy of sabotaging President Joe Biden’s anti-pandemic plan by encouraging their own followers to get sick? Are the millions of Republicans who keep telling pollsters they will never get that Democrat shot going to change their minds now?
Ha ha ha, no.

The Technology 202: New Report Calls Conservative Claims Of Social Media Censorship ‘a Form Of Disinformation’
with Aaron Schaffer
A new report concludes that social networks aren’t systematically biased against conservatives, directly contradicting Republican claims that social media companies are censoring them.
arrow-right
Recent moves by Twitter and Facebook to suspend former president Donald Trump’s accounts in the wake of the violence at the Capitol are inflaming conservatives’ attacks on Silicon Valley. But New York University researchers today released a report stating claims of anti-conservative bias are “a form of disinformation: a falsehood with no reliable evidence to support it.”
The report found there is no trustworthy large-scale data to support these claims, and even anecdotal examples that tech companies are biased against conservatives “crumble under close examination.” The report’s authors said, for instance, the companies’ suspensions of Trump were “reasonable” given his repeated violation of their terms of service — and if anything, the companies took a hands-off approach for a long time given Trump’s position.
The report also noted several data sets underscore the prominent place conservative influencers enjoy on social media. For instance, CrowdTangle data shows that right-leaning pages dominate the list of sources providing the most engaged-with posts containing links on Facebook. Conservative commentator Dan Bongino, for instance, far out-performed most major news organizations in the run-up to the 2020 election.
In The Past The Gop Would Be Rallying Their Voters Against This Bill Their Failure To Do So Now Is Ominous
Mitch ?McConnell, Ted Cruz, Tucker Carlson and Ben Shapiro
With surprising haste for the U.S. Senate, in the early hours of Wednesday morning, just after passing a $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill. And Democrats could not be more excited, as the blueprint covers a whole host of long-standing priorities, from fighting climate change to creating universal prekindergarten. The blueprint was largely written by Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont, who released a statement calling it “the most consequential piece of legislation for working people, the elderly, the children, the sick and the poor since FDR and the New Deal of the 1930s.”
Sanders isn’t putting that much spin on the ball.
While the bill fallls short of what is really needed to deal with climate change, it is still tremendously consequential legislation that will do a great deal not just to ameliorate economic inequalities, but, in doing so, likely reduce significant gender and racial inequality. It’s also a big political win for President Joe Biden. In other words, it is everything that Republicans hate. Worse for them, it’s packed full of benefits that boost the middle class, not just the working poor. Traditionally, such programs are much harder to claw back once Republicans gain power — as they’ve discovered in previous failed attempts to dismantle Social Security and Obamacare.

But that’s not really happening here.
The Actual Reason Why Republicans And Their Media Are Discouraging People From Getting Vaccinated
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Independent Media Institute
Dr. Jonathan Reiner, a CNN Medical Analyst, said last week, “A surprising amount of death will occur soon…” But why, when the deadly Delta variant is sweeping the world, are Republicans and their media warning people not to get vaccinated?
there’s always a reason
Dr. Anthony Fauci told Jake Tapper on CNN last Sunday, “I don’t have a really good reason why this is happening.”
But even if he can’t think of a reason why Republicans would trash talk vaccination and people would believe them, it’s definitely there.
Which is why it’s important to ask a couple of simple questions that all point to the actual reason why Republicans and their media are discouraging people from getting vaccinated:
1. Why did Trump get vaccinated in secret after Joe Biden won the election and his January 6th coup attempt failed?
2. Why are Fox “News” personalities discouraging people from getting vaccinated while refusing to say if they and the people they work with have been protected by vaccination?
3. Why was one of the biggest applause lines at CPAC: “They were hoping — the government was hoping — that they could sort of sucker 90% of the population into getting vaccinated and it isn’t happening!”
4. Why are Republican legislators in states around the country pushing laws that would “ban” private businesses from asking to see proof of vaccination status ?
Death is their electoral strategy.
Is there any other possible explanation?
So, what’s left?
Destroying Trust In The Media Science And Government Has Left America Vulnerable To Disaster
For America to minimize the damage from the current pandemic, the media must inform, science must innovate, and our government must administer like never before. Yet decades of politically-motivated attacks discrediting all three institutions, taken to a new level by President Trump, leave the American public in a vulnerable position.
jonmladd
Trump has consistently vilified the national media. When campaigning, he the media “absolute scum” and “totally dishonest people.” As president, he has news organizations “fake news” and “the enemy of the people” over and over. The examples are endless. Predictably, he has blamed the coronavirus crisis on the media, saying “We were very prepared. The only thing we weren’t prepared for was the media.”
Science has been another Trump target. He has gutted scientific expertise and administrative capacity in the executive branch, most notably failing to fill hundreds of vacancies in the Centers for Disease Control itself and disbanding the National Security Council’s taskforce on pandemics. During the coronavirus crisis, he has routinely disagreed with scientific experts, including, in the AP’s words, his “musing about injecting disinfectants into people .” This follows his earlier public advocacy for hydroxychloroquine as a COVID-19 treatment, also against leading scientists’ advice. Coupled with his flip-flopping on when to lift stay-at-home orders, the president has created confusion and endangered people.
Media Bias Against Conservatives Is Real And Part Of The Reason No One Trusts The News Now
Members of the media were shocked as he was supposedly revealed as incredibly anti-woman presidential candidate, perhaps even the most ever nominated by a major political party in the modern era. He had admitted that he reduced women to objects and the Democrats pounced, seeking to make him lose him the support of women and, in turn, the presidency.
I’m not talking about the media coverage of GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump and the “Access Hollywood” tape, but his predecessor, Mitt Romney.
His sin? Saying that he had “binders full of women” that he was looking at appointing to key positions were he elected president. Sure, it was an awkward way of stating a fairly innocuous fact about how elected executives begin their transition efforts — with resumes of candidates for every position under the sun —- well before an election is held. Yet, the media and commentators came for Mitt Romney and they did so with guns blazing, as he was portrayed as an anti-woman extremist… for making a concerted effort to hire women to serve in his administration as governor of Massachusetts.

‘it’s Time To End This Forever War’ Biden Says Forces To Leave Afghanistan By 9/11
The enormous national anger generated by those attacks was also channeled by the administration toward the creation of the Department of Homeland Security, which was conceived to prevent any recurrence of attacks on such a massive scale. Arguments over that legislation consumed Congress through much of 2002 and became the fodder for campaign ads in that year’s midterms.
The same anger was also directed toward a resolution to use force, if needed, in dealing with security threats from the regime of Saddam Hussein in Iraq. That authorization passed Congress with bipartisan majorities in the fall of 2002, driven by administration claims that Saddam had “weapons of mass destruction.” It became law weeks before the midterm elections.
Once those elections were over, the Republicans in control of both chambers finally agreed to create an independent commission to seek answers about 9/11. Bush signed the legislation on Nov. 27, 2002.
The beginning was hobbled when the first chairman, former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, and vice chairman, former Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell of Maine, decided not to continue. But a new chairman, former New Jersey Gov. Thomas Kean, and vice chairman, former Rep. Lee Hamilton of Indiana, filled the breach and performed to generally laudatory reviews.
Long memories
Top House Republican Opposes Bipartisan Commission To Investigate Capitol Riot
But McCarthy replied by opposing Katko’s product, and more than 80% of the other House Republicans did too. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., initially said he was keeping an open mind but then announced that he too was opposed. This makes it highly unlikely that 10 of McConnell’s GOP colleagues will be willing to add their votes to the Democrats’ and defeat a filibuster of the bill.
Republicans have argued that two Senate committees are already looking at the events of Jan. 6, as House panels have done as well. The Justice Department is pursuing cases against hundreds of individuals who were involved. Former President Donald Trump and others have said any commission ought to also be tasked to look at street protests and violence that took place in the aftermath of the police killing of George Floyd.
But with all that on the table, several Republicans have alluded to their concern about a new commission “dragging on” into 2022, the year of the next midterm elections. “A lot of our members … want to be moving forward,” said Sen. John Thune, R-S.D., the No. 2 Senate Republican toMcConnell. “Anything that gets us rehashing to 2020 elections is, I think, a day lost.”
Resistance even after 9/11
The Taliban were toppled but bin Laden escaped, and U.S. forces have been engaged there ever since. The troop numbers have declined in recent years, and President Biden has indicated that all combat troops will be out by this year’s anniversary of the 2001 attacks.
Opiniontrump And His Voters Are Drawn Together By A Shared Sense Of Defiance
Americans in general have begun to catch on: 66 percent of Americans believe that the media has a hard time separating fact from opinion and, according to a recent Gallup poll, 62 percent of the country believes that the press is biased one way or the other in their reporting.
So when CNN, NBC News, Fox News, or another outlet break a hard news story, there is a good chance that a large swathe of the public won’t view it as legitimate news.
And politicians, right and left, are taking advantage of this.
The entire ordeal is part of an ever-growing list of examples in which the media seemed to be biased, whether consciously or not, against Republicans.
Before Donald Trump, there was New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, who in 2014 accused the media of “dividing us” because they asked him about some protesters who had chanted “NYPD is the KKK” and . He also accused the media of McCarthyism when they dug into the personal life of an aide of his, who reportedly had a relationship with a convicted murderer. The mayor also publicly and privately accused Bloomberg News of being biased against him, since it is owned by his predecessor. However, de Blasio is not terribly popular within his own party, so Democrats in New York did not buy what he was selling.
The Media Has Entered The Republicans Pounce Stage Of Critical Race Theory
Now that polls show a majority of Americans oppose Critical Race Theory, the Democratic Party and their scribes in the legacy media have launched a rearguard action against parents — by casting them as the aggressors. As is true every time the Left misfires or overreaches, the media ignore the offense and focus on the popular backlash in a tactic popularly known as “Republicans pounce.”
Media coverage proves that CRT has entered the “Republicans pounce” stage. Witness the words of one Politico writer, who said on Thursday, “he right is hoping to capitalize on the grassroots angst over critical race theory and excite its base voters in next year’s midterms.” Chris Hayes, who has the unenviable position of competing directly with Tucker Carlson on MSNBC, agreed Thursday night that all the Republican Party’s “rhetorical fire has moved away from the deficit and on to some random, school superintendent in Maine after his district dared to denounce white supremacy after the murder of George Floyd.”
But why are grassroots Americans so filled with “angst”? Because they are intellectually deficient and, of course, racist, according to Vox.com.
“Conservatives have launched a growing disinformation campaign around the academic concept” of CRT. “It’s an attempt to push back against progress,” wrote Vox.com reporter Fabiola Cineas. The problem is that “Republicans … want to ban anti-racist teachings and trainings in classrooms and workplaces across the country.”
Trump Continues To Push Election Falsehoods Here’s Why That Matters
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Republican opposition to the commission
Rice was featured in one of the very few congressional commissions ever to receive this level of attention. Most are created and live out their mission with little notice. Indeed, Congress has created nearly 150 commissions of various kinds in just the last 30 years, roughly five a year.
Some have a highly specific purpose, such as a commemoration. Others are more administrative, such as the five-member commission overseeing the disbursement of business loans during the early months of pandemic lockdown in 2020. Others have been wide-ranging and controversial, such as the one created to investigate synthetic opioid trafficking.
In the initial weeks after the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol, the idea of an independent commission to probe the origins of the attack and the failures that let it happen seemed a no-brainer. It had broad support both in Congress and in public opinion polls. It still enjoys the latter, as about two-thirds of Americans indicate that they think an independent commission is needed. The idea has fared well — particularly when described as being “9/11 Commission style.”
Opiniona Guide For Frustrated Conservatives In The Age Of Trump
Conscious bias or not, such practices do not engender trust in the media amongst conservatives. They only reinforce the belief that the media seeks to defend their ideological allies on the left and persecute those on the right while claiming to be objective.
This idea that the media is made up of unselfconsciously liberal elites who don’t even recognize the biases they have against conservative policies and conservatives in general goes back decades, to when newsrooms were more or less homogenous in nearly every way. At first, conservatives fought back by founding their own magazines; after Watergate and in the midst of the Reagan administration and liberals’ contempt for him, organizations like the Media Research Center began cataloguing the myriad examples of biased coverage, both large and small.
And there was a lot to catalogue, from opinion pages heavily weighted in favor of liberals to reportage and analysis that looks a lot more like the opinion of the writers than unbiased coverage.
Despite Cries Of Censorship Conservatives Dominate Social Media
GOP-friendly voices far outweigh liberals in driving conversations on hot topics leading up to the election, a POLITICO analysis shows.

Republicans have turned alleged liberal bias in Silicon Valley into a major closing theme of the election cycle, hauling tech CEOs in for virtual grillings on Capitol Hill while President Donald Trump threatens legal punishment for companies that censor his supporters.
But a POLITICO analysis of millions of social media posts shows that conservatives still rule online.
Right-wing social media influencers, conservative media outlets and other GOP supporters dominate online discussions around two of the election’s hottest issues, the Black Lives Matter movement and voter fraud, according to the review of Facebook posts, Instagram feeds, Twitter messages and conversations on two popular message boards. And their lead isn’t close.
As racial protests engulfed the nation after George Floyd’s death, users shared the most-viral right-wing social media content more than 10 times as often as the most popular liberal posts, frequently associating the Black Lives Matter movement with violence and accusing Democrats like Joe Biden of supporting riots.
Politifact Va: No Republicans Didn’t Vote To Defund The Police
Rep. Bobby Scott speaks at a 2015 criminal justice forum.
Speaker: Bobby ScottStatement: “Every Republican in Congress voted to defund the police when they voted against the American Rescue Plan.”Date: July 12Setting: Twitter
In last fall’s campaigns, Republicans thundered often inaccurate charges that Democrats wanted to defund police departments.
U.S. Rep. Bobby Scott, D-Va., is flipping the script and saying that all congressional Republicans voted to defund police this year when they opposed a $1.9 trillion stimulus plan.
“Every Republican in Congress voted to defund police when they voted against the American Rescue Plan,” Scott tweeted on July 12.
Scott represents Virginia’s 3rd congressional district, stretching from Norfolk and parts of Chesapeake north through Newport News and west through Franklin.
His claim, echoing a Democratic talking point, melts under scrutiny. Here’s why.
The Facts
The term “defunding police” arose after the 2020 killing of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer. Many advocates say it does not mean abolishing police, but rather reallocating some of the money and the duties that have traditionally been handled by police departments.
Scott’s explanation
Barbera sent an NBC article noting that communities in at least 10 congressional districts represented by Republicans who opposed the bill are using some of its relief funds to help their police departments.
Our ruling
We rate Scott’s statement False.
Opinion:no The Media Isnt Fair It Gives Republicans A Pass
The right-wing media, willfully ignoring the press investigations into Tara Reade’s accusations, insist that former vice president Joe Biden, the presumptive Democratic nominee, has not been treated similarly to accused conservative men . They have a point, but not the one they were trying to make.
arrow-right
Let’s start with the big picture: Right-wing groups persistently engage in conduct for which Republicans are not held to account. The latter are allowed to remain silent after instances of conduct with a strong stench of white nationalism, but pay no penalty for their quietude. Right-wing demonstrators at Michigan’s statehouse this week — angrily shouting, not social distancing, misogynistic in their message, some carrying Confederate garb — were not engaged in peaceful protest. This was a mob endangering the health of police officers and others seeking to intimidate democratic government. Some protesters compared Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to Adolf Hitler and displayed Nazi symbols. Newsweek reported:
The media has adopted the approach that a pattern of sexual harassment claims over decades is not relevant because Trump has denied them, yet they want investigated the single assault claim against Biden. Biden responded in an interview and in a lengthy ; the media insists these things have to be investigated further. They do not ask Trump’s campaign why the president does not respond to questions. They do not ask Republicans about Carroll, Zervos or others.
Social Media: Is It Really Biased Against Us Republicans
Wednesday promises to be another stressful day for Facebook, Google and Twitter.
Their chief executives will be grilled by senators about whether social media companies abuse their power.
For Republicans, this is the opportunity they’ve been waiting for.
Two weeks ago, Twitter prevented people posting links to a critical New York Post investigation into Joe Biden.
It then apologised for failing to explain its reasoning before ditching a rule it had used to justify the action.
For many Republicans, this was the final straw – incontrovertible evidence that social media is biased against conservatives.
The accusation is that Silicon Valley is at its core liberal and a bad arbiter of what’s acceptable on its platforms.
In this case, Republicans like Senator Ted Cruz believed Twitter would have acted differently if the story had been about President Donald Trump.
Sobering Report Shows Hardening Attitudes Against Media
NEW YORK — The distrust many Americans feel toward the news media, caught up like much of the nation’s problems in the partisan divide, only seems to be getting worse.
That was the conclusion of a “sobering” study of attitudes toward the press conducted by Knight Foundation and Gallup and released Tuesday.
Nearly half of all Americans describe the news media as “very biased,” the survey found.
“That’s a bad thing for democracy,” said John Sands, director of learning and impact at the Knight Foundation. “Our concern is that when half of Americans have some sort of doubt about the veracity of the news they consume, it’s going to be impossible for our democracy to function.”
The study was conducted before the coronavirus lockdown and nationwide protests over the death of George Floyd.
Eight percent of respondents — the preponderance of them politically conservative — think that news media that they distrust are trying to ruin the country.
– Deal gives Atlanta company control of Anchorage TV news
The study found that 71% of Republicans have a “very” or “somewhat” unfavorable opinion of the news media, while 22% of Democrats feel the same way. Switch it around, and 54% of Democrats have a very favorable view of the media, and only 13% of Republicans feel the same way.
That divide has been documented before but only seems to be deepening, particularly among conservatives, Sands said.
In The Age Of Trump Media Bias Comes Into The Spotlight
Almost 20 years ago, after my first book, “,” came out, I made a lot of speeches, some of them to conservative organizations. The book was about liberal bias in the mainstream media. I had been a journalist at CBS News for 28 years and, so, it was a behind-the-scenes exposé about how the sausage was made, about how bias made its way into the news.
I said that despite what many conservatives think, there was no conspiracy to slant the news in a liberal direction. I said that there were no secret meetings, no secret handshakes and salutes, that anchors such as CBS’s Dan Rather never went into a room with top lieutenants, locked the door, lowered the blinds, dimmed the lights and said, “OK, how are we going to screw those Republicans today?”
It didn’t work that way, I said. Instead, bias was the result of groupthink. Put too many like-minded liberals in a newsroom and you’re going to get a liberal slant on the news.
Liberal journalists, I said, live in a comfortable liberal bubble and don’t even necessarily believe their views are liberal. Instead, they believe they are moderate, mainstream and mainly reasonable views — unlike, of course, conservative views which, to them, are none of those things.
But what I wrote and spoke about then — mainly about how there was no conspiracy to inject bias into news stories — seems no longer to be true today.
Pandering, it seems, is good for business.
Bias shows itself not only in what’s reported, but also in what’s ignored.
Florida Republicans Move Against Social Media Companies
Tumblr media Tumblr media
TALLAHASSEE — Concerned that social media companies were conspiring against conservatives, Florida Republicans sent a measure Thursday to Gov. Ron DeSantis that would punish online platforms that lawmakers assert discriminate against conservative thought.
The governor had urged lawmakers to deliver the legislation to his desk as part of a broader effort to regulate Big Tech companies — in how they collect and use information they harvest from consumers and in how social media platforms treat their users.
Republicans in Florida and elsewhere have accused the companies of censoring conservative thought on social media platforms by removing posts they consider inflammatory or using algorithms to reduce the visibility of posts that go against the grain of mainstream ideas.
With the ubiquity of social media, the sites have become modern-day public squares — where people share in the most trivial of matters but also in ideas and information that often are unvetted.
In recent years, social media companies have acted more aggressively in controlling the information posted on their platforms. In some cases, the companies have moved to delete posts over what they see as questionable veracity or their potential to stoke violence.
DeSantis is a strong ally of the former president, and the Republican governor is supporting hefty financial penalties against social media platforms that suspend the accounts of political candidates.
America Hates The Republicans And They Dont Know Why
@jonathanchait
Americans harbor certain deep-rooted impressions of the two parties, which have held for generations. Democrats are compassionate and generous, but spendthrift, dovish, and indulgent of crime and prone to subsidize poor people who don’t want to work. Republicans are strong on defense and crime, but too friendly to business and the rich. What is striking about the Republican government is how little effort it has made to push against, or even steer around, the unflattering elements of its brand. President Trump and his legislative partners have leaned into every ingrained prejudice the voters hold against them. They have acted as if none of their liabilities even exist.
That is not the approach Democrats have taken in office. Bill Clinton famously fashioned himself as a “New Democrat,” angering his base on crime and welfare and declaring the era of big government over. Barack Obama did not position himself quite so overtly against his party’s brand — which had recovered in part because of Clinton’s success — but he did take care to avoid confirming political stereotypes. Obama frequently invoked the importance of parenting and personal responsibility. He did not slash the defense budget, and took pains to woo Republican support for criminal-justice reform. Obama tried repeatedly to get Republicans to compromise on a deal to reduce the budget deficit. Whatever the merits of these policies, they reflect a grasp of the party’s innate liabilities.
Placing Some News Sources On The Political Spectrum
Here are a few examples of major news sources and their so-called “bias” based on ratings from AllSides  and the reported level of trust from partisan audiences from the Pew Research Center survey.
Note that much of these ratings are based on surveys of personal perceptions. Consider that these may be impacted by the hostile media effect, wherein “partisans perceive media coverage as unfairly biased against their side” . The Capitol Siege: The Arrested And Their Stories
It would only be logical for that memory to inform the imagination of any Republican contemplating a similar independent commission to probe what happened on Jan. 6. The commission would likely look at various right-wing groups that were involved, including the Oath Keepers and the Proud Boys, some members of which have already been charged. The commission might also delve into the social media presence and influence of various white supremacists.
Moreover, just as the 9/11 Commission was expected to interview the current and preceding presidents, so might a new commission pursue testimony from Trump and some of his advisers, both official and otherwise, regarding their roles in the protest that wound up chasing members of Congress from both chambers into safe holding rooms underground.
House Minority Leader McCarthy was asked last week whether he would testify if a commission were created and called on him to discuss his conversations with Trump on Jan. 6.
“Sure,” McCarthy replied. “Next question.”
All this may soon be moot. If Senate Democrats are unable to secure 60 votes to overcome an expected filibuster of the House-passed bill, the measure will die and the questions to be asked will fall to existing congressional committees, federal prosecutors and the media. To some degree, all can at least claim to have the same goals and intentions as an independent commission might have.
The difference is the level of acceptance their findings are likely to have with the public.
