I understand the importance of making it clear how bad solitary confinement is (it is a torture method! it has psychological and physical impacts that can last decades! it also increases recidivism btw!), but this sits badly with me. Not because it's overplaying the situation with Mangione, but because it underplays how commonly and brutally solitary confinement is used.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice (FY 2022 report), 10% of all prisoners reported spending 30 days or more in solitary confinement during their sentence.

It is also used against migrants and prisoners showing signs of mental illness, as well as in many mental health facilities. It is, famously, a preferred method in counter-terrorism, with most subjects of that ALSO being held without charge or trial and with little to no evidence of guilt.

(and let's not pretend that the UK is better on this front. according to this report from last year, around a third of child offenders experience solitary, many reporting solitary confinement for as long as 80 days. and while we don't know the numbers for adults because the Home Office doesn't release them, they're not gonna be low.)

While it is right and fair for the treatment of Luigi Mangione to be a cause célèbre and a rallying point against the American justice system, that cannot be supported by making the norms of the American justice system seem less bad than they are.

This kind of brutal treatment of a prisoner without due process is not one unique case. This is standard practice in counter-terrorism, immigration detention, and the entire prison system. Mangione is quite likely getting the worst of it, because, you know... the politics. But bear in mind, they already HAD the torture chair and the solitary cell.

Don't let the carceral system off the hook for its regular human rights violations, just to emphasise specific ones.

So to catch you up to speed

Luigi Mangione is an innocent man who has not been confirmed to have been involved in any crime.

We have police documents confirming he was not DNA tested or fingerprinted, and confirmation no usable DNA or fingerprints were recovered at the crime scene due to incomplete prints and immense DNA contamination of New Yorks streets.

No evidence has linked him to the crime.

No facial recognition has even remotely come close to identifying the cctv suspects face as that of Luigi. His own family and friends do not see a resemblance. Most people agree the features in the cctv do not match the very well documented features of Luigi Mangione.

Luigi Mangione has no history of violence nor with firearms. He is a vegan pacifist with no history of mental illness and an aversion to killing even bugs.

He is still only a SUSPECT and all involvement in any crimes are merely ALLEGED at this time. Alleged by the most corrupt police force in the entire nation; the NYPD who do more organized crime than they've ever stopped.

Luigi Mangione's attorneys confirmed they have been shown absolutely nothing that even places Luigi at the scene of the crime.

People have repeatedly tried to recreate the entire timeline of events and found it is not physically possible to do what was alleged in the time frame police gave. Especially dubious for Luigi Mangione to have done given his recent, crippling back injury.

Luigi Mangione in his own words has said police planted evidence on him and are not being honest about his arrest or what he had on him at the time.

There is no body cam footage of Luigi's arrest.

There is no autopsy report for Brian Thompson.

Luigi has so far been:

Stripped of his hat, jacket and shoes and forced to walk in the cold in December wearing wet socks.

Forced to urinate on himself where police then took and published humiliation photos of him.

He was then stripped of his shirt pants and socks and put in a blue psychiatric gown and strapped to a chair inmates called "the torture chair" and left for prolonged periods of time. To the point the entire inmate population at the prison protested in anger.

He was slammed unto a brick wall, choked, and shoved by various police officers for no reason.

Was marched through nyc at gunpoint by officers with military firearms, forced to wear chains

Was called a murderer by the mayor of NYC on national television.

Was then placed in solitary confinement for weeks. Something extremely damaging psychologically to be exposed to for even just a few days. Something usually reserved for cannibals.

He is now being forced to sleep on the floor despite again, a crippling back injury.

Again, he has not even had trial yet. He is an innocent man by the very definition of the law. He has nothing tying him to any crime. And even the crime itself was a nobody being shot in a city where nobodies are shot everyday, seven days a week. And those shooters don't get this treatment. Cannibals don't get this treatment. Serial killers don't get this treatment. Why are they doing this? Because we entered an oligarchy and they want people who are rich to matter more than people who are not. The NO ONE, no name, insignificant person that Brian THOMPSON always was and WILL ALWAYS BE is more important because of his net worth, to the fascist oligarchy we've entered into, than the innocent man, data scientist and robotics engineer with a promising future that is Luigi Mangione.

The NYPD doesn't want him to be innocent. They are torturing him gleefully and postponing his trial because they know he's innocent. They just want to scare the public into understanding that the ultra rich, even those who's names will never be remembered as anything other than markings on a never visited tombstone, are the only persons who matter now. Not yours. Never yours. You're poor. They'll torture you without a trial too. Your life means nothing to them. Your children dying in school shootings means nothing to them. Pinning a crime on an innocent man they can beat to scare the public out of class consciousness is the only thing that matters to them now. Depose them.

How do y'all think the duffers are going to go about initiating Byler?

I've been thinking about this a lot lately and would love some thoughts on how everyone thinks Byler will progress. This is my opinion on the matter. (PS: this is a very mike centered analysis as I believe his perspective is the most beneficial to the conversation since he is at the center)

Mike is hiding his feelings for Will, but what benefit does this have for those involved? To us, the viewers, we can see the pain Will, El, and Mike experience through this situation. No party is receiving what they truly need to progress their happiness and growth.

El wants a boyfriend who will tell her that he loves her for who she is as a person, not her capabilities. At the heart of this is a need to be understood, but El herself doesn't really know who she is. Her growth is dependent on finding herself without outside influence.

Mike wants a girlfriend to seem/feel 'normal' and cool. He knows who he is but is repressing it. At the heart of this is a need to be desired. Sure, El wants him, but she does not know the truth about Mike. Mike's growth is dependent on someone finding comfort in the real him.

Will wants someone to treat him normal. He knows he's a freak and while he doesn't necessarily try to hide it, he wants the comfort of not being treated differently for it. Will's growth is dependent on the acceptance of those around him.

The existence of a romantic relationship between Mike and El goes against all of this potential growth. Mike idolizes El, never being able to see past her abilities. El is unable to find herself at the cost of being mikes cover. While doing this, he rejects his true self and affection for Will, because he believes he is doing what's right. Simultaneously, Will is left feeling dejected and alone in the disregard of his feelings.

I think Mike has very low self-esteem. It comes with the territory of being a nerdy queer teenager in the 80's. I also, however, believe that when he has enough faith in himself, or the stakes are high enough, he's good at taking charge of a situation. He is selfless, a kind of selfless where you can't always tell he cares for those around him, but he would sacrifice his own comfort and livelihood for the people he loves.

But if Mike is so selfless, why isn't he fixing the situation for everyone involved? Because of one simple fact: He is clueless. He has no idea what he's doing to El or Will.

He may know Will is upset about something while in the Van with him, but that boy has no idea what's going on in Wills head. He might not even realize the painting he got from Will is the one El was talking about in her letter. With everything going on, he probably still thinks will has a girl he likes back up in Cali and this is a completely different painting.

He senses El is upset and won't talk to him, but he thinks it's because she lost to Vecna. He has not even the slightest clue it's partially due to his conditional and untrue love confession. El believes that mike only said he loved her because she finally got her powers back.

Mike thinks he gave El and Will what they wanted. El wanted a love confession? check. Will wanted mike to move on and fix his relationship with El? check. done and done. At least that's what he thinks.

Now that we have motives and perspective out of the way, here's a general idea of how I think the Milkvan-Byler transition will pan out.

We have already established in the show that Will is too selfless to confess, thinking he's saving a perfectly healthy relationship that just so happens to involve the boy he loves and the girl who saved him. There is no way he would break them up on his own, or he would have done that already. The action relies on Mike and El. They both need to respectively decide a breakup is necessary for this to work.

The breakup cannot be prompted by one or the other, it must be prompted by both. Mike cannot be the only one desiring a breakup, because El needs to take her power back and make that decision by herself. At the same time though, El can't be the only one either, as mike needs to accept his feelings on his own and stop being someone he's not. Mike not initiating would also make Will seem like a second option and completely negate Wills growth of being accepted for simply being.

El will have distanced herself from mike tremendously. They may not have broken up officially, but she's realizing Mike is not what she needs right now. She will probably be spending time with Hopper and Joyce training to fight Vecna, and the reminder that that's the only thing mike seems to like about her will only push her more towards her own sense of self. Maybe she still has hope for her and mike, but that is not her focus right now.

While El is distanced, Mike and Will will fall into the same roles they did in season 2. Will will struggle with the supernatural aspects of the plot, while Mike takes care of him and keeps him safe. This will restore Mike and Wills friendship.

Mike simultaneously will realize how much happier he is away from El, because he can't help but act like someone he's not when he's around her. He will also realize the comfort he finds in being relied on by Will. This won't necessarily prompt him into the breakup, as he still believes dating El is the best way he can support her. He might want Will, but he still feels like he can't have him.

I Because of this, El will be the first to initiate, but it will be mutual. I think they will have a long discussion (maybe starting as a fight) about Mikes lies in his speech and the pressure he felt to conform to this relationship. El will share how his actions have not helped the relationship, but instead made them both feel miserable, trapped, and unappreciated. They will realize that the other is not what they need, and though they will both need platonic support through this journey, they just can't benefit each other this way.

While Mike and Will are reconnecting, El will finally notice... everything. The stares, soft voices, comforting, and everything will click. El might need some help understanding though, because even though she did not have a normal childhood, she is still subjected to heteronormativity even if she joined the game late. She will make the connection that that is how she should have been treated, and though they are both boys, I think a sit down with one of the other characters (Johnathan? Hopper? Joyce?) will help her connect the dots.

I think the painting and mikes feelings for Will may become an entirely different discussion later in the season, and this is what will push mike into feeling allowed to want him. The combined acceptance from El, and the implied reciprocation from Will could be the push mike needs for his own self-acceptance.

This will allow Byler to build up in a healthy way where all parties benefit and are able to build even stronger connections with each other. Through honesty, acceptance, and love, all of which have been lacking.

Hello, my little woodland critters. Today just for fun I'm going to walk you through the process of generating a character for the original 1974 edition of Dungeons & Dragons. I'm just going to use Men & Magic for this one but might do another one later with the supplements!

First, we get some dice. Three six-sided ones to be exact. I'm actually going to grab some with pips rather than numbers because that feels more authentic. Then, we roll and record their sum, repeating five more times, generating six ability scores. Here we go!

Strength 9 Intelligence 17 Wisdom 12 Constitution 16 Dexterity 13 Charisma 13

Yippee! As a witch these make me very happy indeed.

Next, we'll pick a class to play. Based on the abilities I rolled I'm of course going to pick the magic-user (the witch class didn't exist yet, alas). And as a magic-user, I'm actually allowed to futz with the numbers a bit, removing two points from Wisdom to gain an extra point in Intelligence. This gives us our finalised array, and we can now know the effects of each ability on the character.

Strength 9: no effect Intelligence 18: +10% to earned experience, eight extra languages Wisdom 10: no effect Constitution 16: +1 to each hit die, 100% chance to survive certain spells Dexterity 13: +1 to missile fire Charisma 13: maximum of 5 hirelings with +1 loyalty

Okay, languages. The character speaks the common tongue of the continent she lives in, along with an alignment language. I'm going to pick Neutral as my alignment so that's the language I speak. I also speak eight creature languages, which I'm going to pick later.

For equipment, we're going to grab our trusty 3d6 again, roll them, and mulitply by ten to find out how many gold pieces we have. I rolled 10, so I have 100 GP. I'm going to buy a dagger, the only weapon a magic-user is allowed. In addition I will buy 50' of rope, a large sack (for treasure), a leather back pack, a water skin, six torches, a flask of oil, a small silver mirror, a bunch of wolvesbane (in case of werewolves), a bunch of belladonna, and a bug of garlic (in case of vampires, or pizza). Not sure what the belladonna is useful for but you can never be too sure. This leaves me with 48 gold pieces that I will use to buy rations when I'm heading on an expedition of some sort. To calculate my encumbrance, I add my dagger's weight in gold pieces (20) to that of my miscaellanoues equipment (always 80, though a referee is allowed to make sure this stays within reason), for 100 GP of weight. I'm well within the limit for light foot movement, which will likely mean I'll have the responsibility of hauling loot out of the dungeon. Maybe I should invest in a second sack…

As a magic-user of the 1st level, I am titled a Medium, and will require 2,500 experience points to reach 2nd level (Seer). I roll 1 die (six-sided), adding +1 for my Constitution getting a total of 2… Tha'ts how many hits my magic-user can take before death. Let's hope she rolls better on the next level, assuming she survives. She fights with the strength of one man!

I can memorise one 1st level spell for my journey. Not knowing what I might face in the dungeon, I pick something witchy that I think can really save the group's butts: Sleep. All level 1 spells are in my spellbook so I don't need to worry about which ones I can memorise.

And that's pretty much it! Now we just give the character an imaginative name… How about Naiviv?

i don’t think most people realize just how suffocating the pressure to be “normal” and conform was in the 80s. especially in a small town like hawkins.

even today it is very common for queer people to go years or even their whole life without coming out. how is mike having a girlfriend for like a year proof that he is straight? it’s completely invalidating of real queer people’s experiences.

even setting aside the mountain of evidence that mike is queer… what about just listening to queer people? surely we would know a thing or two about being gay and everything that comes with that. if we can recognize something in mike that relates to the queer experience why should that be ignored?

we shouldn’t be holding will’s experience as the golden standard that mike must meet in order to be gay. mike and will have different experiences and that’s reflective of real life.

will was bullied because other kids noticed he was gay, probably before he even did. his interests, behaviour, and choice of clothing was scrutinized his entire childhood. this did not happen to mike. mike did everything he was “supposed” to do. he got a girlfriend. he put on a performance of heterosexuality. and yes, i say performance, because even if you believe mike is straight, there are moments that are undeniably a “performance” like the whole s3 break up and the monologue where again, whether you think he’s straight or not, he did lie.

just because mikes experience is different than wills does not mean that he is not gay.

a lot of mlvns are totally out of touch with the past and even the present. i saw a mlvn comment that along with all the other ships (excluding byler of course), robin and vickie should get married at the end of s5. i also saw someone say that will should find a boyfriend and be openly gay in hawkins.

it’s a stark reminder that even well intentioned people don’t understand what it’s like to be gay, not even on a surface level. it seems as though the very concept of internalized homophobia (and dangerous homophobia from other people) is too complex for them to wrap their head around. and yeah it does annoy me. because even if you don’t “ship byler” or whatever, as soon as you dismiss the queer experience, i’m not listening to you. if you are not willing to understand these concepts then you have no place claiming that mike is not gay. you are just not equipped with the basic level of knowledge needed to see it. how can you understand queer people’s pain if you don’t understand that you are the source of that pain?

that’s why the idea of people saying that byler is out of nowhere genuinely haunts me because i know it will happen. no matter how they present it there will be people who think it’s just totally out of nowhere and oh my god wasn’t mike straight just a minute ago?

what i look forward to the most is mikes queer experience broadening the GA’s perspective. i want them to see that yeah, your preconceived notions and stereotypes about gay people are shitty. queer people are people and their lives and experiences are more complex than i like the same sex therefore i am going to date the same sex and i like the opposite sex therefore i am going to date the opposite sex. it’s not that easy. not today, not in ten years from now, and certainly not in in a small conservative town in indiana in the 1980s.

Damien’s an alchemist artificer. because chemistry ! hooray !! He is incredibly against exploding people via chemicals in real life but this is a game and so explode people he will, should the situation call for it. Zee’s a steam-powered automaton bard (yes that is a reference to a particular band) who’s actually pretty mid at playing the banjo and also says the most outlandish things when he’s supposed to be using charisma for anything. But he just has such a likable vibe that it somehow works like 80% of the time. Emma is a monk mostly bc I didn’t think any typical melee weapons fit the steampunk vibe + also I think she deserves to punch someone every once in a while. Obviously not any type of traditional monk but really the fighting style’s the only thing she takes from that class

i actually disagree with that other anon saying vaggie must be viv's least favorite, just because vaggie has been around like... a LONG time. if i'm not wrong, i'm pretty sure she was one of the first characters viv created for what would eventually become hazbin, along with angel and alastor.

tbh i think viv is TOO attached to vaggie or else she wouldve gotten rid of her ages ago. i think the problem is that viv has never, at any point, known what to do with her. iirc she's gone through the most amount of design changes and concept changes out of anyone in the cast. at one point she was going to be a dead white prostitute from the 80s who was also angel's girlfriend, and at one point she was going to have died in 2014 instead i think via suicide, and now she's actually an angel ex-exorcist in disguise?? like what??

Vaggie potentially could be Vivziepop’s least favorite character, homegirl is literally almost last on the list. 😂 Both aspects can be true, you can have a character you had for ages and still dislike them. Regardless, I do hope Vivziepop redos her ranking, in the video she was more concerned that she did it wrong.

The main problem like you mentioned Anon is that Vivziepop just doesn’t know what to do with Vaggie. She has been through many storylines and multiple design changes.

It’s like I’m witnessing someone’s OC and backstory change a trillion times. At least Angel Dust and Alastor’s character design stayed consistent for the most part with a few minor changes.

As you both walked Yuji had been giving you an unsolicited lesson in wolfish history, While it wasn't a topic you were interested in but Yuji was easy to listen to, you were never a lover of yappers but he wasn't too bad.

"He was the leader, there was no one like him." You could feel the pride in every word, his eyes were shining with Admiration and Passion, He was obviously proud of where he came from. "Until he had to fight with the bloodsucker leader and had no choice but to cede the northern part of his territory because the vampires were larger in number and he didn't want to cause trouble."

"They never fought and there were no bigger number of vampires than wolves."

"I didn't know that leeches don't tell the story well."

You rolled your eyes, You understood that for him that was the story he had grown up with but it was not the real one. "I was there when that happened, so I can say it."

His eyes widened slightly and he gave you a quick look up and down "There's no way. how old are you?"

"95, I was 15 when that happened 80 years ago not a century." You added just to emphasize that you did know about history and he didn't know shit.

"I said “like” i didn't claim that it was the true!"

Maybe he was funny, Maybe you smiled at him complaining.

"You seemed very confident."

"I'm a man with confidence in himself, who can say." He shrugged his shoulders as he smiled arrogantly but playfully.

"Conceited."

"More like a realist." You rolled your eyes but the smile didn't disappear from your lips, even if he was imitating your answer from a while ago, the reality is that he wasn't far from reality.

Yuji was popular, he was funny, and also confident, nice and a good friend.

He was also the type of guy that every girl would want to walk hand in hand with on the Campus, he was handsome, tall, athletic, affectionate, a gentleman. Such a Dream.

On the other hand you knew that people found you attractive, you knew that they talked about you, you could listen to them, but the few times that someone dared to approach you you completely ignored them so now the invitations to dates were null and you liked that it was like that, it's not that you thought you are Unreachable (you really are) it's simply that you didn't want to deal with that part of human life. Love, dates and boys They were too vain for you.

"And you... You were born, you know, like this or..." Yuji had no idea if there was a vampiric rule about not asking that or if it was disrespectful, maybe it was rude Or maybe there was a story you didn't want to tell. 

"Do you want to know how I became a vampire?"

"If I can."

"I was 15 years old and I guess there's no great story behind it, I was just attacked by a wild vampire."

"wild?"

"The kind of vampires who drink human blood and cause problems for my kind, are always wiped out by other vampires or locked up in insane asylums by humans who consider them lunatics."

"It also happens with some of the werewolves."

"Humans usually call anything that is different from them lunatics." He let out a small chuckle.

"I guess so, but, What happened? he just bite you or what?" He was curious, he had a lot of questions, he liked to talk and ask.

"Yeah, something like that. It was night and I had run away from home, I guess I hadn't realized how stupid and immature I was being. I remember feeling like someone was chasing me and I tried to ignore that feeling but My instinct was right, before I could react I was already on the ground with a vampire on me sucking my blood, it's the most painful thing I've ever felt, but I got help before he could kill me."

"Help from who?"

"Satoru, I guess he took pity on me and instead of also finishing me off he helped me and made me part of his clan."

"Oh."

He let out a small sigh, there were still many things he wanted to know about you and vampires (especially about you)

"oh." You imitated him.

Yuji frowned slightly and looked at you "What was that?"

"What was what?"

"That oh." Now he was the one who imitated you, You chuckled. "You know, I thought you'd be a lot more bitter."

"And I thought you'd be more annoying."

Yuji rolled his eyes but the smile on his lips only became more and more noticeable "You're so nice." He joked sarcastically.

"It's part of my natural charm."

"So you have Charm?" He sneered, he was just playing, of course you were lovely, maybe not in the conventional way but it was hard not to have his eyes on you.  "Maybe you have. You're scary but pretty and Mysterious."

"And you are a Stinky noisy dog but not so annoying."

Yuji was not offended at this point he had lived with you enough to know that you didn't hate him so much, now seeing how you tried so hard to insult him was funny.

"Fine Vampira."

You frowned "Dumb."

"Okay, Draculaura."

"You're so funny, Jacob Black."

He let out a loud laugh "I didn't think you were the kind of girl who liked to watch twilight."

"I don't like it, I just watched it."

"Oh come on." he pinch your side "Don't lie." You slapped his hand when he tried to pinch you again  "Don't pull out your fangs, pretty!" Maybe you liked that, but only a little.

"I'll if you keep it up." Agora it was you who pinched his side though much harder than he did.

Watching Yuji hunt was definitely a spectacle, He was not wild or violent He killed the prey as quickly as he could, he didn't want to hurt but he knew it was a necessary process. He did not look for the nearest prey he always chose the one that was farthest away, the one for which he would have to run. He was fast, he was agile, it was obvious how much he enjoyed being in his animal form.

After a deer and a few birds He came closer to you, still on four legs. You didn't want his furry ass near to you.

You stepped back and he kept coming closer.

"Don't even think about it." He advanced, you backed away and so on until you hit the trunk of a tree and you had no escape.

His head brushed against your hand, it was obvious what he was looking for, Although you made a disgusted face, he did not move away from you and continued to insiste. Maybe he was softer than you had thought, maybe you started to Pet him.

"Fine, This is not so bad." One then two and then you started scratching his tummy. He was like a big dog, that's for sure. It was hard to not see the smile on your lips and you had to stop because you were about to call him a good boy and giggle. "Enough, I think I'm going to go home now." You got up and picked up your things, but Yuji kept following you.

"Where are you going?" It's not that he was going to answer you but you thought he would take the hint and stop but he didn't. "If I come home smelling like a Stinky dog, it's going to be your fault."

"Why do you smell like shit right now?" It wasn't a surprise, you had already guessed that this would happen.

"Why do you always smell like shit, Toge?"

"Hey! That's definitely not true."

"She's just on the defensive because she doesn't want us to know about her new wolfie boyfriend."

"He's not even from being my boyfriend."

"Really? And what have you been doing with him in the forest?" You knew Maki wasn't trying to Argue with you, it was just that no matter how hard she tried to deny it, she cared about each of you, she was always like a big sister and even if you were bothered by her interrogations she's just trying to make sure you're going to be okay. "You guys seemed pretty close and today you arrive smelling just like him, it seems pretty weird to me."

You rolled your eyes, You tried not to get angry anymore but it was impossible. "Just don't start, Maki."

"Just stay away from him, he won't do you any good." You hated being told what to do, you hated that she believed she had any rights to you, she wasn't your sister, she was just a clanmate.

"Don't tell me what to do, I'm not stupid."

"Well, you're acting like one." For you that was enough, all you had done was try to get them food and here she was berating you and calling you stupid, You knew what you were doing, you were mature enough not to let anything happen to you.

"And you're not better Maki, stay in line, You can tell me what I have to do."

"Fine! But the day he does something to you, don't come crying to me."

"Oh, believe me, I won't."

Hi, I have probably a long winded ask that's more so asking for advice.

I'll cut to the chase: I'm pretty sure my dad is a trans woman and, due to being raised in a poor neighborhood in the late 80s early 90s for his teens and early 20s, has repressed any feelings he has on the matter.

When I came out to him as a trans man and described gender dysphoria to him he told me "Everyone has that though," and I've noticed he's always treated women differently from other men. He still has internalized gender essentialist nonsense, but most of it puts him down for "being a man". He believes men are inherently disgusting, believes he's inherently disgusting, and thinks women are inherently not this.

He has many lesbian friends, MANY. And so many consider him an honorary lesbian. He started wearing a lesbian pin and, when I asked why, he was super genuine with saying he felt he had kinship with lesbians, and in a way he even felt like one. So, I told him he could be one and he kind of froze up.

And this reminds me of another instance from my past where he tried on a dress at a fancy dress store and he was eyeing himself in the mirror, but he played it as a joke since my mom was trying on dresses too.

He's in his 40s and if he's trans I really want him to find out soon so he doesn't have to live with regret about never having transitioned. Any advice?

Does he say men are disgusting often? Cuz if he does you can just say "hey, you know you don't have to be one, right?" Like the nudge. Absolutely the preferred way cuz the gentle nudges tend not to be too aggressive and tend to be an "oh, you're right" thing

If he doesn't talk like this often enough you could just approach it as a "hey dad some of the things you've said has me thinking about you lately, have you considered you might have some gender dysphoria?" Oftentimes being direct like that gets pushback, that's why I prefer nudges, but you can absolutely try.

Also, if there's a way to slide it into conversation without it seeming out of nowhere, you should tell him it's ok to wear dresses if he's into it. That you wouldn't find that weird and would accept him. Sometimes these things start small as like, clothing or makeup. But again, I would make sure it doesn't seem out of nowhere, again the nudges.

But you know your dad better than I ever will. Be direct if you think it'll work.

I’ve never actually watched a campaign of critical role live, like I first heard of it at the start of c3, didn’t finish campaigns 1 and 2 until episode like 80, and decided to just let c3 finish airing so I could binge. You’ve been in fandom since c2, and I wanted to ask two questions. How does criticism of c3 differ from c2, or even c1? Also, since the fandom has grown and the cast is now much more removed from the fans, do you think if they ever do another long form campaign they’ll try and address some complaints people have had about c3? Or will they just continue to do their own thing? It just feels (to me with no point of comparison) that a lot of people have a lot of valid complaints about c3 and I can’t imagine they’d just ignore all of it, but I could just be naive

Let me answer the ending question first, which is that I do not know how much the cast sees and honestly I wouldn't even blame them for ignoring most commentary during the campaign because I think it's hard to actually run a campaign constantly trying to make the fandom happy. I also have some guesses that the cast has their own doubts that are perhaps less harsh than what many of us have been saying, but are present. Like I can't imagine they missed how rushed the emotional beats of this campaign felt, and how bad this party is at making decisions that feel earned and interesting and don't take them 3 hours, even if they might keep that private. I think the flaws of this campaign are also a bit of a perfect storm, namely, Matt had a very specific plot in mind but ran this campaign with too open a hand, and the cast of characters they played could have used a bit more balance. I mean, I'll admit to being unimpressed by a few of Bells Hells' initial premises compared to other parties, but most actually could have become great if they were in a more character-tailored campaign like the previous two. I think without this goal of creating a big culmination in a hypothetical future campaign, this problem of having ill-suited characters for that type of plot and then pushing development aside in the service of that culmination becomes a nonissue.

Now, fan criticism. This gets tricky, because a lot of criticism, to be blunt, sounds similar on the surface no matter how valid it is. For example, "this ship lacks chemistry and development" is basically a criticism people throw at any ship they dislike. Chemistry is ultimately subjective, or at least impossible to measure in a meaningful way (this is why the But Number Go Up crowd hates when it gets brought up, like, doesn't matter how many fics your ship has if I think the characters are cold fish with each other; I'll never like it) and development is not but requires strong meta to back it up and it's hard to prove a negative.

Shipping aside, though: I think the clincher for me is that people who ended up disliking Campaign 2 any time between the ending of the hiatus or after the finale, were as a rule invested in one very specific outcome: either they quit because their ship didn't happen (including the many, many people who thought Fjord and Jester or Beau and Yasha would break up in the finale, apropos of nothing); in the case of Shadowgast that the ship didn't happen in the way they expected; or they quit because Molly was not resurrected. There was certainly a lot of trepidation going into the finale that not all stories would have a satisfying conclusion (notably Caleb, Yasha, and Fjord, all of whom did get meaningful resolution in the finale) but, at least in my circles, no one was arguing that the Nein as a whole felt robbed and that the campaign did them dirty. You had the weirdass Caduceus stans who failed to understand that his story was precisely what he wanted, or the Caleb Should Have Killed Everyone In The Assembly people, but honestly at least in my recollections a lot of those were secondary to various shipping/Molly complaints and grew out of there as a means to bash the campaign for additional reasons, rather than as a root cause for dissatisfaction themselves. Here, we have people who are ostensibly thrilled with the shipping outcome and the endstate with the gods becoming mortal and who were crowing about that up until the finale announcement at which point they, in their own words, crashed out and suddenly began agreeing with everything this campaign's detractors had said re: lack of character-focused arcs and rushed pacing, and I think that's notable.

I don't feel qualified really to speak about Campaign 1 because I wasn't there, but I think in addition to the violent misogynistic hate which Critical Role obviously did not nor should have listened to and taken as guidance, there was the usual "MY SHIP DIDN'T HAPPEN SO THIS CAMPAIGN IS BAD AND PROBLEMATIC" complaints we saw with Campaign 2.

I guess my point is, getting back to that first paragraph about shipping, you can't go off of the phrasing of criticism; you really do need to take it in context.

Not JD Vance here, just the intern they hire to run this account: I am a transgender person. For several years, I hemmed and hawed about changing my legal name or amending my birth certificate with a new sex marker... but I didn't. I could see the writing on the wall in the future. As far as documents are concerned, I am not transgender, which is obviously not true to my identity and presents its own challenges, namely safety and healthcare, but it has also proved extremely helpful to myself in the past few weeks.

Increasingly, there are many trans people in the U.S reporting that they are not allowed to have passports with their new sex on them because they are trans, yet simultaneously not allowed to have passports with their old sex on them because then, the passports wouldn't match their birth certificates. If you didn't have a passport already (valid for 10 years), people in this limbo may be blocked from getting one now. But even then, there are fears that existing passports can be revoked.

In the US, birth certificates and photo ID like driver licenses are issued by the states, while passports are issued by the feds. I live in a mixed-but-blue (democrat) leaning state, as do majority of Americans. If I had elected to change my state-issued docs to reflect my preferred sex, as is perfectly legal and accommodated in my state, I would now have extreme difficulties because of the federal regulations.

I absolutely don't mean to say that I am better than anyone, smarter for having this foresight. Instead, this is all to highlight that there are deep inequities in the united states, and this issue is a clear example of how state sovereignty is being threatened in the United States. I would go further to argue that these inequities prove that the state-and-federal separation model is, ironically, undemocratic and directly fails people globally. But I digress.

It's not just trans people in the United States with these issues. It is Black people. Disabled People. People on government poverty assistance. Undocumented people. Some states allow undocumented people, people who are in the US "illegally", to have a driver's license! Some states don't. You can imagine how not being able to operate a vehicle legally -- in the guns, burgers, and car capital of the world -- might pose a disastrous outlook on some families.

To all international onlookers of the United States fuckery right now, please know that we are scared and many of us genuinely believe it is unsafe here. Some of us cannot get passports and cannot have safe passage out of our country. Please help us fight this.

Chances Ojima dies this chapter? /Genuine

Hate to admit it but the chances of Ojima dying this chapter are incredibly likely, I’d say around 80%.

I know I’m usually the one to scream about how Ojima is “certainly gonna die” like every chapter but this feels different as usually it starts off with me feeling safe about him and close to the bda he shows up a bit more and suddenly I freak out about death flags. But the motive hasn’t even dropped yet and he’s already got a ton of screen time, big scenes and info about his character. With the bleeding plot coming into play, his relationship with monomoko and being her favourite student, painting the balcony shutter, and us learning more about his trauma. Like legitimately we’ve gotten so much content of him so early on in the chapter I cannot believe how he won’t die this chapter because he’s been so important. I don’t think a tetro character has raised this many death flags up until now and I’m usually the type to say that we shouldn’t scream death flags at every scene, or we should wait until the motive, but like this is just so much Ojima content. Like I should be happy getting a lot more screen time with my favourite boy but I’m just in complete anxiety knowing that this most likely is his last development before he dies.

Like and even going to story themes, we’ve been getting a ton of development with monomoko and her empathising with the students and questioning the killing game. And since Ojima is her favourite student it makes so much sense for him to die this chapter which could lead monomoko into even more of a spiral as she values his life which could lead to her potentially standing up in the finale of chapter 5. And I could especially see this being the case if Ojima is a killer where she has to send him off to be executed himself, and with how much Ojima is saying how he believes he’s gonna die in the school but also saying that he knows he won’t kill anyone would be ironic.

Also with the mural he’s painting on the balcony, I can’t stop thinking of how perfectly devastating for him to die there would be if he’s a victim. Being killed in front of the painting of the outside world you’ve been yearning for, having your last chance of freedom stripped away like that. Just imagine the unique 5th bda with Ojima’s blacked out sprite in front of the colourful mural unique to that one location. It’s such a perfect setup for him to die there that I can’t possibly imagine that it could go any other way. I heard someone say that if this is the case the student reconvening at the body would be called [Sunset] and just ouch…

God just writing this is making me tear up. Even hearing any discussion or even mention of the likelyhood of Ojima dying this chapter just makes me feel sick despite how much I also say it myself. It just feels different this time as the signs are here right from the beginning of the chapter that I am so so confident he’s gonna die and can’t let myself rest as every day feels like I’m getting closer to my comfort character dying and never being able to see him in an episode again. Like I wanna give my reasons for maybe how he could not die this chapter but at this point it’s so certain I don’t wanna get my hopes up at all so I’m just gonna be sitting here until he dies this chapter and I’ll have to deal with the fallout. If anything I hope an Ojima interview is our one way of giving him some extra screen time before he’s gone forever.

Sarcastic Stiles

Pairing: Stiles x fem!reader

Genre: Fluff, Slight Angst

Characters: Stiles, Y/N, Scott, Derek

Description: As usual, Stiles gets the both of you into trouble when his sarcasm begins to play a part in a dangerous situation.

You could hear your heart beating in your ears from the speed you were running. Looking back, you noticed that there was no one behind you and stopped, leaning on your knees to catch your breath. “I’m gonna kill Stiles.” Running footsteps sounded behind you and you glanced back, feelings of both relief and frustration washing over you as Stiles emerged from the corner. 

He ran up to you and gathered you in a hug before dramatically leaning against the wall to catch his breath. “What?” Raising your eyebrows, you rested your hands on your hips. “You know exactly what! Did you really have to throw your bat at them?! We were supposed to be doing recon, not angering the bad guys!”

Stiles shrugged his shoulders before leaning up straight against the wall. “They were plotting something, something that I assume wasn’t good; and I needed to do something.” You rolled your eyes and shook your head at your boyfriends idiotic actions. Looking up, fear panged in your chest as you noticed one of the guys heading straight towards the two of you. Walking back, you grabbed Stiles’ hand, which also alerted him to the situation. You both quickly turned and ran the other way before another guy headed towards you. You were cornered in the back streets of Beacon Hills. 

Stiles turned his back to the wall and tucked you behind him protectively. With his body shielding you, you were able to hit the speed dial on your phone to call Scott. “Hey guys, how’s it goin’?” The two guys looked at each other and laughed. “Why don’t you tell us, smart guy? Since you and your little girlfriend were spying on us.” One of the guys made eye contact with you but Stiles moved so the guys’ sight was only on him. “All I know is that you were planning something bad and we decided to stop you. Y’know, before you ended up tearing apart the town we call home?” 

A feeling of relief washed over you as you heard Scott answer the phone. “Y/N? What’s going on?” When you didn’t answer, you could tell that Scott knew that your plan had gone a little sideways. He whispered into the phone that he was gonna use the GPS on your phone to find the both of you and hung up. Throughout the phone call, you realised you missed the other guys telling all about their genius plan. Your heart dropped, though, when Stiles answered them. “Seriously, it took you about 10 minutes to tell us that? I’ve aged, like, 80 years since talking to you.” You knew that his mouth would get you in trouble one day, and it seemed like that day was today. 

One of the men lunged forward and grabbed you from behind Stiles and held you tight to his body. A wave of nausea washed over you as you felt the mans breath on the back of your neck. “Now why would you bring such a beautiful girl like her to a horrible place like this? It’s like you’re asking for her to be taken.” The man’s breath fanned over the side of your face as he leaned down and ghosted kisses on your cheek. Tears fell down your cheeks as you struggled against him, but he strengthened his grip. Stiles lunged forward but was grabbed by the other man. “Get off her! Y/N, baby, look at me, everything’s going to be alright. I’m so sorry I got you into this.” The man holding you grabbed rope from his pocket and bound your hands behind you before tightly tying a gag around your mouth; with the other man doing the same with Stiles. 

You began to fight back as the men began leading you both to the end of the alley where a van was waiting. “Stop fighting!” He slapped you across your face, leaving you dazed. Stiles shouted through his gag but it was no use. The man slung you over his shoulder and rushed towards the van, throwing you inside causing your body to fall hard. Just as the other man was about to throw Stiles in, a loud growl sounded from down the alley, followed by a harrowing sight of blood red eyes. “Fuck, he’s here.” The man holding Stiles pulled out a gun and held it to his head. “You come any closer McCall and we’ll blow his brains out.” Scott’s eyes turned back to normal and emerged out of the shadows with his hands held in surrender, but with a smirk on his face. Another growl sounded from on top of the van. The man turned with Stiles and was faced with Derek, who leapt at the man, causing him to let go if Stiles. Stiles ran to you inside the van to wordlessly make sure you were ok as Scott began to attack the other man. 

You both sat inside the van listening to the attack going on outside and breathed a sigh of relief when the attack stopped and the men ran away. The two werewolves jumped into the van and untied you both. Stiles gathered you in his arms and placed a kiss to the top of your head. “I’m so sorry, baby.” “What the hell happened guys?” You raised your eyebrows at Scott. “I’ll give you one guess.” Scott gave you a knowing look. “Stiles and his big mouth again.” He shook his head and helped you both out of the van with Derek coming out last. 

Stiles held your hand as you both walked back to Derek’s car. “I swear I will never be sarcastic in a situation like that again, especially if you’re with me. I never want to put you in that situation again.” You nodded and pressed a kiss to his cheek. “Let’s just get home and forget this ever happened.” He smiled in response as you both gathered in the back of Derek’s car, relieved that the situation was over.

you sly dog, you got me monologuing!

steven universe was a show that for the longest time really felt like it was going somewhere. i followed it religiously from around the end of season 1. the first 2 or so seasons were honestly really good, and it really felt like there was a cool overarching plot being set up.

The stuff with peridot and the cluster was by far the peak of the series, but after that, the actually interesting parts of the show got sparser and the hiatuses got longer and the show would actively fuck with its audience like "oh look this upcoming episode has an ominous title are you ready for us to actually do something interesti- lmao no sorry that was just another filler episode, really got you there didn't we teehee. anyway see you in six months"

the show has a tendency to just drop bury and forget its most interesting bits. after the malachite thing the show basically goes "oh yeah so lapis is broody and sad anyway she's gone, don't worry about jasper, moving on". after like season 3 or something, peridot, the single most interesting character, gets mostly pushed off-screen. the shit with pearl tricking garnet into fusing (DEFINITELY NOT AN ALLEGORY FOR ANYTHING DON'T THINK ABOUT IT) gets resolved in 1 or 2 episodes and iirc never brought up again. pink lars basically gets dropped like a rock before anything interesting is done with him. the sardonyx and malachite things especially aren't inherently bad topics to include on a show, but the way they're never truly explored is, they're some pretty serious shit that the show seemingly doesn't realize were just left hanging there.

Don't get me started on the ending, white diamond's introduction is one of the best scenes in the entire show. she's shown as this unimaginable force that doesn't even let steven get a word in, you know, this character whose first instinct is always to solve problems with words. just a couple episodes later, this dictator who rules over hundreds or thousands of planets with an iron fist that only serve to be carved out and sterilized to reproduce their species of virus metaphors gets turned good by what amounts to a "no u". I'm not saying the gems should've nuked homeworld or whatever, but it sure as fuck should've been a hell of a lot harder than that. the excuses that the show was cut short due to garnet's wedding are moot considering that the show is something like 80% filler episodes and they got a movie (which was actually pretty good, i can't find much to complain about with the movie tbf) and an extra spinoff season afterwards.

steven universe holds a special place in my shriveled hater heart because it was not bad all the way through, in fact it was awesome at times, and yet they shat all over its potential by having seemingly no real idea what they were doing (i wonder if the way they didn't have any consistent standards for how storyboarders drew characters mirrors a similar aimless philosophy in the writer's room). it's also personal because i wasted like 6 years of my life hoping it would get consistently good at some point

hehe ghost-turbo haunting felix au

turbo is connected to the last piece of his code in the whole arcade - a trophy he gifted to felix in mid 80s as a symbol of him genuinely caring about their relationships on par with being the best racer. felix also gave him one of his medals and both kept their gifts next to other rewards, but when roadblasters and turbotime were unplugged, the medal was gone with everything else

now, after burning in cola-lava turbo is basically dead, but scraps of his code still were intertwined with the trophy (after all, it was his first winner's cup, but felix never knew about it), giving turbo an opportunity to exist as a shadow incapable of interacting with anything and anyone besides felix, who kept the trophy even after the roadblasters incident
