I am but a humble Resident Evil roleplayer who reads your blog from afar, but the portrait on Lord Saddler's belt is of Maud Muller by George Elgar Hicks (1824 - 1914). Maud Muller is from a love poem between a village girl (Maud) and a town judge. Granted the source of the portrait, it could represent a love interest or a wife of his, rather than a nun?

i cannot emphasize enough how america is adamantly AGAINST the no first use policy (i.e., they can just use nuclear weapons first whenever they or their nato allies feel attacked) and how thats singularly the most important reason why everyone should care about us politics given our current political climate. like just look at how spineless the united nations is! look at everything they've gotten away with in palestine! this isn't something we should be worrying about 10, 20, 50 years in the future, we should be worrying about this now! but unfortunately as a current uni student i see that there is an american "culture" of sorts to avoid any discussion of politics because anything and everything is seen as too radical now. believe me, no one wants to confront these uncomfortable truths or disrupt their individual goals in life (which is of course a byproduct of hyperindividualism and capitalism--like how most people wont stop to think "who am i even working for?" until its too late). to that extent we, the american people, are just as complicit as the american government for giving consent for all of these atrocities to happen

Right so most of Ruby's rant was targeted at Blake right? Like Blake did a complete 180 throughout the series until this volume where she's the happy one who's always smiling, who's gotten into a relationship, who's looking on the bright side.

This isn't to say she doesn't still have problems, of course she does, they all do, but currently all Ruby can see is how good Blake has it living a life she once did. She was the leader once, she was the happy one, and it destroyed her, but Blake's out here doing just fine getting into a relationship with Yang, the person who she's arguably closest to.

What’s the plot (?) in the second chapter?

oh right uh, I mentioned it in the tags of a reblog give me a sec

#second chapter includes:tetra and ravio vandalizing with paint. ravio ruffing her hair. tetra pulling down ravio’s hood and getting scolded#that’s basically it with some setup and cameos from other hw characters

To go bit more in depth, Tetra has also been promoted to Vice Captain of the whole HW crew, with HW Link still being the Captain. ST Link is First Lieutenant, which in like second in command to the Captain, but with Tetra being Vice Captain it’s more like he’s third in command. Impa is a General, but honestly these ranks don’t really matter too much to the story lol.

The inciting incident of Ravio and Tetra hanging out in this chapter is Young Link(Mask) getting stuck in a mud pit. And Ravio’s hammer is also stuck in the mud after he tried to help him out. So Tetra drags Ravio along with her to get ST Zelda and ST Link’s help to pull him out. ST Zelda calls Tetra Great Grannie. The Impa sends Tetra off to relax for the rest of the day, telling Ravio to help her. Cue the vandalism. First with the Captain’s quarters, then with some random knights’ quarters. Well, in the story one the random knights made Aryll cry before, so that’s why Tetra’s targeting them, but in the meta sense they are random knights that aren’t very important.

Then yada yada, Tetra pulls down Ravio’s hood and is scolded. Full named and everything. And she folds. Like yeah, she’s a confident kid, but she still a kid who, the moment someone she looks up to-even if right now it’s just a little-scolds her, she feels so bad. Though I may just be projecting. Eh. Then Ravio explains why he keeps his hood up, even though nobody here would recognize him(the hw crew haven’t been to his time yet). It’s because he’s scared of Cia, the freak. She’s obsessed with Links, and is thankfully only in love with the Captain…but Ravio still is unnerved by her. Honestly really want Tetra to call her a wench, since that is part of Pirate lingo, but idk, it’s a bit charged of a word so shrug. Just witch it is. Then the two escape the tent before the knights arrive, and have a good laugh over how they are defiantly getting in trouble.

we have an especially bad migraine where I noticed us getting aura (mostly being pissed off and upset in a specific way) for several hours before it started and we've taken pain meds but I'm not sure they've actually helped. they have definitely given us side effects though and I feel very spaced out and nauseous and generally shit.

we've also had way worse ADHD symptoms for the last few days to the point of being pretty much unable to focus on anything besides like 2 things we've hyperfixated on. we've had so much trouble starting tasks and keep struggling to hold a train of thought or focus long enough to even figure out what we need to do each day despite having all our Habitica dailies to tell us.

our brain is all over the place and I'm not really sure what to do with it or what would help but it's just occurred to me that sometimes our ADHD gets really bad in the buildup to some of our worst migraines and now I'm just hoping that both the migraine and other shit ease off soon because I'd like to be able to function

I've been thinking about this post ever since I saw it a few days ago and it made me realize that this trend is in part, a result of our society as a whole deciding that wanting power or to be special is an inherently villainous trait, or at least an unsympathetic one.

Because the thing about being born special is that it's not a choice the character made. It's something that happened to them, and it is also inescapable and immutable. A character who is born special, born to be a hero, gets to resist and be reluctant and struggle against Specialiness. They get to lament how much their kick ass powers complicate their life, and how much they wish they could just go to normal school dances instead of God-Fairy mixers. They can prove to the audience again and again that they don't really want to be Special, and given the choice they would be anything but Special. Their are other ways to get a character in this situation (usually prophecies, happenstance, or just being chosen by some organization or individual who doesn't give them a say in their Specializes), but being born Special is just easier to write, and also usually gets combined with the others anyways.

But on the flip side someone who picks up a Special Item or works to be Special is committing a grievous sin: the pursuit of power and the conscious rejection of being Normal. If they could choose not to do the thing, or to put the item down, then they are an active agent in their own pursuit of Specialness, and society has trained us to think That Is Wrong. The unspoken implication is that any character who would choose power and Specialness is throwing away a more pure, simple, better existence in the name of their own desires, which is Bad. Only Bad Guys want power. Bad guys are greedy, grasping, discontent, and arrogant enough to think they deserve power and Specialness. If power corrupts, then those who seek it out are surely already inherently corrupt in some innate fashion, and thus at best unsympathetic.

But if the character is born special the audience has permission not to judge them. Having a normal/simple life is not an option, so we don't think less of them for not choosing that. We can't. As a result the character doesn't have to feel guilty about being a mermaid king, or a mega wizard, or a half angel or whatever, and that means the audience doesn't have to feel guilty for rooting them.
