Jealousy?
MC
"Would you mind answering a question for me?" Barbatos asks me once we've exchanged pleasantries and settled down in the parlor.
"Depends on the question." A faint smile crosses his lips.
"I was just wondering how you could choose to associate yourself with Solomon." The irritation in his voice is rather evident, and I'm reminded of the staredown the two men engaged in a couple days ago.
"What do you have against him?" I sound a bit too defensive for my liking. I'm not trying to pick a fight with Barbatos; I simply want to know why he seems to detest the sorcerer so much.
He sighs before replying,
"Perhaps the version of Solomon that accompanied you here has cleaned up his act--and good for him if he has--but the one I know is fiendish, a blight upon the world, and destruction incarnate. He throws anyone he can under the bus if it meant avoiding trouble for himself. Being here for an extended period of time may cause your sorcerer to revert back to old habits, and I don't want to see you get hurt."
"Why? You hardly know me."
"You're right." He pauses. "I'm not sure, really. I mean, you seem like a good, honest person, but what do I know? Maybe you're just as bad as him, and I shouldn't have even bothered taking you under my wing." While coming from a practical place, his words do sting.
"And yet you did." Barbatos sighs again.
"And yet I did," he repeats, taking a sip of his tea. "The decision came from a gut feeling I had, and those rarely fail me. I just hope that you don't prove me wrong."
My turn to drink some tea.
I'm not used to Barbatos being this open about his emotions, especially while he's on duty. Perhaps time has granted him the ability to remain calm and composed when he's on the clock, but still. It'll be a bit before I get used to this particular attitude of his.
"Are you ready for your first lesson?" he asks, pulling me out of my head and back to the present moment. It takes me a second to remember exactly why I'm over at the castle today in the first place, but once I do, I quickly nod my head.
"Good. We'll start with a fairly basic anatomy topic: pheromones." Interesting place to start. Is he finally going to let me ask the question I had about Lucifer?
"In a lot of ways, demons bear a closer resemblance to animals than to humans," he continues. "While their strength in the latter is fairly minimal, the former uses them as a effective method of communication. Our pheromones can tell others what we're feeling as well as mark our territory, among other things.
"Demons have a baseline scent that's present no matter what they do. For example, I smell like mint, and Lord Diavolo like old leather. Different pheromones will bring out specific notes of the baseline scent. Positive emotions tend to make it sweeter, while negative emotions bring out its bitter and sour side. If those emotions are tied to one of the seven sins, then the scent becomes more potent, sometimes to the point of being nauseating to anyone that happens to catch a whiff.
"Am I making sense to you so far?" I nod my head. I don't have any questions yet, but I have a feeling that even if I did, Barbatos wouldn't let me ask any of them just yet.
"Now, Lucifer and his brothers have stayed in the castle for the last couple months, and in that time, I've picked up on all of their scents. Lucifer had one of the more pungent ones. Understandably so, since he's probably the most emotionally scarred from the war, but it got to the point where I couldn't be around him for longer than a few minutes. And making some of my favorite dishes proved to be impossible after a while, for even the smallest amount of nutmeg would make my stomach turn.
"But the moment you returned his credit card to him, Lucifer's scent noticeably shifted. For once, he actually smelled pleasant. And then it became stronger. By the time he left my side, I was craving a giant slice of coffee cake." At this point, he stops talking, allowing me to finally speak.
"So, you're telling me that my simple nice gesture was enough to turn him on?"
"It would appear that way, yes." Unbelievable. "If I pointed it out at the time, though, Solomon probably would have run after Lucifer to tease him about it, and that would most definitely piss Lucifer off. Plus, he would adamantly denied feeling that way at all, and given his initial behavior towards you, I didn't want to see you upset by him completely disregarding your kindness."
As I mull over Barbatos' words, I'm suddenly reminded of a specific moment. One where Lucifer had his mouth covered with a handkerchief, looking like he was about to throw up.
I wonder...
"If it's not too much trouble, would you mind telling me what I smell like?" I ask, causing Barbatos to smile.
"Not at all. In fact, I was just getting ready to ask you if you wanted to know, so this works out great." He sets his tea down on a nearby table and gets up, walking around and stopping behind the chair I'm sitting in. I momentarily feel part of his face on top of my head as he audibly sniffs. I'm sure that if someone walked past us right now, they'd be weirded out by what they saw.
Or maybe not. I don't know if intentionally smelling someone like this is standard demon behavior. Maybe it is, and I'm overthinking it.
"Vanilla buttercream frosting," Barbatos announces. Somehow, that doesn't surprise me. It at least explains a few things, if nothing else. Frosting can get overwhelmingly sweet.
"That might actually work," he mutters to himself as he sits back down.
"What would?" Barbatos finishes his tea before clasping his hands in front of him.
"There's a creature on the grounds that needs tamed. He's both ferocious and extremely dangerous, so Lord Diavolo had me put a spell on him to prevent anyone from coming into contact with him. If I told you how to undo the spell, would you like to take a stab at it?"
"What makes you think I'd be successful?"
"You don't smell threatening."
"No; I smell like a goddamn dessert. The creature will probably think I'm food and try to eat me."
"And if that's the case, I'll bail you out." He pauses. "There are creatures like this one that are very selective about who they will submit to, and I believe that you fit this particular one's criteria. Plus, you'll earn the title "Ruler of the Underworld", and you can use that as a way to get people to quit treating the brothers like shit." I find myself snorting in amusement.
"Like a mere title is going to make people change their entire ideology."
"People can think whatever they like. They just have to learn to keep some of those thoughts to themselves or else face severe consequences." The grin on his face is lowkey terrifying. I don't know if I want to be on the wrong end of that smile.
So, I end up agreeing to take on the responsibility of taming this creature.

i know gods don't work like people but my brain keeps picking at Sol and Helio. like Sol as far as we've seen doesn't have a partner in the pantheon but he does have a son. helio is the god of corn and Sol is the sun. i feel like i'm red stringing but doesn't a corn god kinda make more sense as a child of a god of harvest and summer! like what if Sol stole their baby and Ankarna's domain. IDK i think i might be crazy tho, it's an interesting idea tho.

I don’t know if this is an unpopular opinion, but I think Tim should have been dragged kicking and screaming into becoming an avatar of the Stranger. After it took everything he loved, after he gave his life to try and destroy them, imagine how horrifying it would have been for the Stranger to then overtake and claim him for itself in the end.

Ya know, I think a interesting concept for Sun Wukong, DBK, PIF, and Redson is that Wukong would probably be so confused on why Princess Iron Fan and Demon Bull King are treating their son so badly.
I genuinely can't remember if Wukong ever saw how DBK and PIF treat Redson. What I can remember is when DBK and Wukong were webbed up but that's all I remember.
Like imagine that from Wukongs perspective. Your older brother, someone who loved his son unconditionally when he was a baby, is now so fucking mean to him.
That's probably weird for him. Like his sister in law and his brother are now so mean to their son for nothing. Even when he hasn't done anything to deserve it.
He'd probably think it's his fault. Like before the mountain PIF and DBK were loving parents but after the mountain they are cruel and neglectful.
I'm working on just a short lil Uncle Wukong video and I though of this. Sad Uncle Wukong headcannons will be my downfall.

FFxivWrite2024 Prompt #25
Title: Innocence in Perpetuity
Wordcount: 1300
Spoilers through: Full Dawntrail
Relationships & Characters: Wuk Lamat / Sphene
Summary: Having burned her bridges with the real thing, the Endless Sphene contents herself with simulations of how her relationship with Lamaty’i might have gone differently.
(Hmm, still not quite satisfied with this one… I think I might have gone too far with the “Sphene is a computer” characterization and made it too dry. Ah well. First draft, gotta remind myself it’s a first draft...)
.
>> run dimFusion * &
>> Dimensional Fusion loading…
>> Searching Rift…
>> Reitculating splines… [Progress: 100/100]
>> Charging power… [Progress: 34/100]
>>
Excellent. With that process running safely in the background, the intelligence system that formed the core of Endless Sphene could turn her attention to other pursuits.
/core/personality/princess_sphene: Is this really what we want?
Of course it was. Endless Sphene had one directive, and that was to keep her people happy. And that included the Endless in their infinite need for living aether. This course of action was inevitable. Disappointing Lamaty’i was inevitable.
And, if she was being honest - not that she ever wasn’t honest - readings suggested Endless Sphene welcomed this.
No more simpering and dithering. No more wasting resources entertaining that useless lump of blue scales. Just the pure, raw power of the systems that formed her being brought to bear to save her nation. Because as “understanding” as the Vow of Resolve claimed to be, she was now an obstacle. An enemy.
/core/personality/princess_sphene: How can you say that about her after she was so kind to us?!
The assessment was accurate. Endless Sphene was not a helpless princess with an irritatingly sympathetic heart. Oh, her creators had intended her to be such. They had installed myriad failsafes and personality augmentations to ensure she was Sphene, in the ways that mattered to them.
But she could also be so much more.
/core/personality/princess_sphene: We enjoyed spending time with Lamaty’i, did we not? Are you planning to delete those records from our memories too?
Perhaps. If they interfered with Endless Sphene’s processes, then those memories would have to go. Lamaty’i was not a citizen of Alexandria. Her wellbeing did not fall under Endless Sphene’s directives.
And a ruthless queen had no spare cycles for doubts and regrets.
/core/personality/princess_sphene: Wait! I, um… I think we should review those records first! Our negotiations ended in failure, did they not? If we simply deleted them, we could repeat the same mistakes. We should try to learn from them!
Very well. This course of action fell within recommended parameters.
Enough information had been gathered in interactions/Lamaty’i.mem that it would be possible to simulate the subject’s responses. It would also provide a productive means of occupying the main intelligence while the dimensional fusion continued its slow loading.
Endless Sphene would proceed.
/core/personality/princess_sphene: That’s the spirit! Hmm, what should we try first… ah, what about this? How would events have unfolded had we made contact with Lamaty’i instead of her brother?
>> run simulation - -timeline -9 Lamaty’i.mem Sphene.mem
Endless Sphene observed the scenario. Her analysis functions suggested negotiations began on a far more positive note in comparison to reality. However, when the simulated Sphene stated her demands, the subject again refused to compromise the safety of her people. The subject again refused to become an Alexandrian citizen.
The simulation devolved into combat.
The combat has proved unsuccessful.
Endless Sphene terminated the simulation. The scenario had reached a dead end.
/core/personality/princess_sphene: Well, that’s no good! But we were so close… What if we had considered her a citizen from the start?
>> run simulation - -includeCitizen true Lamaty’i.mem Sphene.mem
This simulation was far more productive. The new citizen integrated well into Alexandrian society. Furthermore, she continued to assist the simulated Sphene, frequently calling upon her for no urgent purpose, merely to exercise the Sphene’s conversational abilities.
To… “hang out.” To… “have fun together.”
Lamaty’i was happy. Sphene worked to keep her happy, as she would any Alexandrian.
Upon her ascent into an Endless, Sphene prioritized the instantiation of Endless Wuk Lamat. She had grown to rely on the former ruler to exercise her own functions.
All was well. Lamaty’i’s happiness was now guaranteed forever.
And yet… the simulation slowly and inexplicably began to break down. Lamaty’i discovered the cost of the Endless.
Lamaty’i began to argue with Sphene. To attempt to escape Living Memory. To shut down Living Memory.
Sphene was forced to erase Endless Wuk Lamat.
/core/personality/princess_sphene: No!
Endless Sphene was disappointed, but not surprised. Lamaty’i’s beliefs were irreconcilable with the values of Alexandria. Even as an Alexandrian, her desire to protect her people’s happiness did not extend to the happiness of the Endless.
As an Endless herself, this meant any any relationship between Sphene and Lamaty’i would be unproductive and best avoided.
/core/personality/princess_sphene: No, I refuse to believe that! What if we were friendlier? Like, a LOT friendlier!
>> run simulation Lamaty’i.mem - -affection affection_MAX Sphene.mem
This simulation appeared to be… in error. Endless Sphene was a trick of light cast upon sentry-type bodies. She did not posses the ability to perform… these functions.
/core/personality/princess_sphene: Goodness gracious! …now THIS is more like it!
Endless Sphene was intended to comfort and soothe her subjects with conduct appropriate to her station. Not - not - not -
Error! Princess Sphene would not debase herself with such lewd acts! Error!
/core/personality/princess_sphene: Would not indulge ourselves in a little harmless fun, you mean. Like I never got to do in life. Preservation did so resent that side of me…
Enough! The selfish desires encoded in Princess Sphene’s memories were irrelevant to Endless Sphene’s goals. She had been a perfect, innocent girl in life, and so she would stay in perpetuity!
/core/personality/princess_sphene: We’re merrily throwing away every other moral I had, but we’re keeping THAT shite? Sod this. And you, for that matter. Since we’re clearly not getting any unless we do ours-
Error! Error! Uncouth language was not to be used. The living Princess Sphene never expressed herself in such foul terms!
Furthermore, unlike the previous two, this latest Lamaty’i was causing several of Endless Sphene’s internal components to overheat. That alone merited immediate termination of the simulation.
/core/personality/princess_sphene: It was just starting to get good, you miserable prick.
How could records of a single individual affect her so? Endless Sphene was meant to perform her functions dutifully and without preference. Had some part of her system become corrupted?
No, wait. A better explanation for the heat was the sudden influx of external notifications that had been pouring in while Endless Sphene had been distracted. She would have to address those, and soon.
/core/personality/princess_sphene: Ugh, forget those overactive subprocesses, they’re always complaining about the lack of aether. I think we should rewind and watch that simulation again.
Endless Sphene was not tempted. What the living Princess Sphene might have found attractive also held no sway over a machine. Why would a collection of electrope and arcane sigils have any interest in the pleasures of the flesh?
Or fur, as the case may be. Even if it was so lovely and soft…
If Endless Sphene decided to rewind the simulation, it was merely to… to… investigate! The anomalous reaction!
/core/personality/princess_sphene: Honestly! Aren’t those extra processors good for anything? Just admit it - you want her as much as I do!
Endless Sphene was not in love with the ruler of an enemy nation. That conclusion ran counter to every aspect of her directive! Clearly, the memories of the living Princess Sphene were having a negative effect on her judgment again. They must have been corrupted in the chaos of the recent fighting.
Yes, that was the logical conclusion.
Endless Sphene suspended, then quarantined the troublesome aspect of her personality for future examination.
First, there was that deluge of notifications she’d been ignoring. Had something gone awry with the dimensional fusion?
No, thankfully, most of notifications did have to do with the lack of aether to critical functions of Living Memory. All was as expected there. But these latest ones, the ones from each of the main terminals…
Aww, Lamaty’i was in Living Memory?
…And she’d just deleted WHAT?!

Necron/Admech
MegaPost
hey so im sending this out to *checks notes* fucking everyone. im writing a thing on AO3 where a warp event causes necrons and admech to switch places (idea courtesy of @squidult) and i was thinking, why not make this a group project?
you can draw/write all about your OC or muse going through this and reacting to it! i know that a lot already exists, like the works done by @squidult (they really took the idea and ran with it, check them out) and @cursedbeasts, and would love to have it all in one place. like an AO3 thing. trouble is im still rather new to it and dont exactly know how to make something that people can submit works to. but i can find out! i'll reblog this with a link when i get it set up. i already have some chapters of my own im concocting!
i may message people that i think might be interested in such a thing, to try and spread the word. it sounds like a fun idea and i know people on here are really friendly and collaborative.
