can we talk about how the weirdest part of staticmoth isn't even the fact that they're toxic to each other?

it's how they both react to each other's toxicity with nonchalance.

like. first, during val's tantrum, val throws a glass at vox, or well, in his vicinity.

then vox just... steps away like it's nobody's business, barely bothered by it.

and later, when it's vox's turn to be angry, he roughly pulls val down, shakes him, and shouts at his face.

then val just... shrugs it off.

usually when you think of a toxic relationship, you'd probably think of person A being toxic to person B then person B biting back just as toxic until it's a back and forth of toxicity, a full-blown fight.

but that. that's not staticmoth. staticmoth is fucking weird in that when one is acting toxic towards the other, the other acts nonchalant and doesn't retaliate. then they switch roles on who the toxic one is and who the nonchalant one is.

I am not at all denying the toxicity in their relationship, but they certainly are a really fucking weird brand of toxic that is just. so hard to describe.

༄ Yuji and Megumi went from trying to keep the burden that saving each other led to all to themselves.

༄ To Megumi, sharing the burden with Yuji when he needed it the most.

༄ Then finally at the end of the series, Yuji shared the burden with Megumi when he needed it the most.

This final moment just shows how they both eventually learned to share their burden *together* Yuji stands behind Megumi to support him, even going so far as to complete his sentence. And Megumi does not stop him from doing it. ♡

Honestly I feel for Sam but serves him right.

Even if we ignore the potential intermingling of the web or any other other spooky strings that are likely being pulled, there's a lot to unpack here.

I wouldn't say Sam "deserved" it, but Alice tried warning him for months. This is what he gets for sticking his nose in places it didn't belong.

Did I say the same thing about Jon in TMA? Yes and no. Obviously there isn't a story without someone doing something dumb, but I think Jon's situation and Sam's situation are a little different. Jon was an idiot, yes, but he (and everyone else around him) were forced to go in completely blind. He had no idea what he was doing and didn't have any warnings or help at all except from his creepy boss with ulterior motives.

Sam also went in blind, but he was warned several times by several people including the eldritch computer to stop and turn around. He could have avoided this if he just returned Alice's calls or looked at her messages.

But nooooo he had to poke around with his little crushy crush and get himself thrown into a portal to what we can only assume is the TMA universe. Serves him right.

You know after Faulkner's season 2 betrayal I thought I was gonna spend the rest of the series just kinda mad at him. But he really really nailed the boy-king descent into madness for season 3. I had him spinning so fast upon a single axis as to appear immobile before I even realized I was rotating him in my head. A truly sudden and violent propulsion into blorbo status. I want to write 10-page essays about him. I want to put him in the salad spinner. I want to relisten to whatever the FUCK that was when he drowned Sibling Rane.
