Unraveling a Disturbing Plot: Woman Arrested for Bomb-Making Scheme in Uttar Pradesh
In a chilling turn of events, authorities in Uttar Pradesh have apprehended a woman suspected of orchestrating a disturbing plot involving the creation of time bombs using glass bottles. The arrest unfolded following the detainment of a man, tasked by the woman to fabricate these improvised explosive devices (IEDs), by the Special Task Force (STF).
Tumblr media
According to STF officials, the detained man, identified as Javed, was intercepted en route to delivering the bombs to the woman. Shockingly, he disclosed that he had been contracted by the woman, who remains unnamed, and was promised a significant sum of Rs 10,000 upfront, with an additional Rs 40,000 upon successful delivery of the bombs.
The modus operandi involved the concoction of lethal explosives comprising gunpowder, iron pellets, cotton, and Plaster of Paris, ingeniously housed within glass bottles. Javed's resourcefulness in sourcing materials, including glucose bottles and iron pellets from local establishments, sheds light on the meticulous planning behind the scheme.
It is revealed that Javed's expertise in bomb-making was largely self-taught, drawing inspiration from his uncle, a firecracker manufacturer, and leveraging online resources such as YouTube and the internet for guidance. The utilization of commonplace items like watches further underscores the sinister simplicity of the devices.
The woman's motives, as disclosed to officials, trace back to the communal riots in Muzaffarnagar in 2013, which resulted in the destruction of her home. Fearing a resurgence of violence, she purportedly sought to arm herself with these explosives as a means of defense and deterrence.
Disturbingly, the woman admitted to having previously harbored similar bombs at her residence, indicating a premeditated intent to resort to extreme measures in the face of perceived threats.
The apprehension of the woman and the man involved underscores the vigilance and swift action of law enforcement agencies in thwarting potential acts of terror and violence. However, it also serves as a stark reminder of the persistent challenges posed by radicalization and extremism within society.
As investigations continue to unravel the intricate details of this alarming plot, authorities remain vigilant in safeguarding communities against threats to public safety and security.

stand up for me - matt
Tumblr media
WARNINGS: none. quite frankly i didn't put much effort into this one,,,sorry if it's bad
A/N: this might be one of the last, if not the last dean fic i'm posting. :( I will gladly keep including his characters in my blurb events because I still love writing for him, but I don't think i'll write any more lengthy fics for him (unless i'm feeling really inspired). Anyway. I hope you enjoy this last, short one <3
•••
"See, that's what you call real music. Not the sort of shite my son sits listening to in his room." Rob said, pointing a finger at his son in a mocking manner before turning back to Javed.
The latter had just recently discovered himself a newfound passion for Bruce Springsteen's music and his best friend's dad was visibly very supportive of it, taunting his son about his own music taste in return.
"Now, look, you're a clever boy. Educate him!" he continued.
"He's beyond help. He thinks synths are the future."
You giggled along with them as they burst in a fit of laughter, though you hadn't been paying much attention to what had been said as you remained focused on your work.
That's why your expression dropped when you glanced on your right and caught sight of Matt; he was clearly distraught, the look on his face making it evident. You suddenly felt guilty for laughing, not knowing whatever they were laughing about was getting to him.
"He's a handsome boy, but he's not happy. Look at him."
Matt's gaze darted between his dad and Javed as they laughed, until he started walking away, too upset to stay around any longer.
"Oh, here we go. Look, son, don't get the hump just because your mate's got taste in music!"
Quickly, you left your stall and tried to follow him, Javed doing the same. But before you could start running, Rob stopped you.
"Y/N, Javed! leave him be, kids. We've got customers to serve."
Javed looked at Matt one last time and eventually nodded reluctantly. You hesitated for a bit but did the same before going back to your stall and questioning Javed about what exactly had just happened.
-
A couple minutes passed and your mind wouldn't shut off about this whole situation. You quickly began to feel bad for letting Matt go without even trying to stop him.
"Jay can you hold that for me?" you handed him a hanger, which he took from you with a curious frown. "I just- I need to talk to him. I'll be right back!" you called as you began running to catch up with Matt, hoping he wasn't already gone.
Thankfully, he was only about to get inside his car when you finally reached him.
"Matt, wait!" you called, slightly out of breath. Matt rolled his eyes as he turned around to face you.
"What do you want?"
"Stay, please."
"Why should I? So they can keep humiliating me for everyone to see? Yeah, thanks, I'll pass." he scoffed.
"They didn't mean it, Matt."
"Oh trust me, my dad means every single word he said." he told you, his voice breaking towards the end. Your face softened and you reached for his arm, only for him to jerk it away. "And you didn't seem to disagree with him."
"I wasn't listening, Matt. I only realized they were making fun of you when I saw how upset you looked." you explained truthfully. "You know i've always been supportive of everything you do, especially when it comes to your music." You pouted, seeing as he was holding back tears.
You tentatively reached up to cup his face, and this time he didn't try to avoid your touch. Instead he simply looked down and let out a defeated sigh, refusing to meet your eyes.
"I know... I'm sorry. It's just, It's hard to find motivation in doing what I love when my own dad and best friend don't even believe in me."
"Well, I do. I believe in you so much. And i'm sure they do too, they probably just don't know how to show it." you assured him, your arms wrapping around his neck as you spoke while his hands came to rest on your hips. "Jay feels awful about what happened." you continued. "He got excited about your dad understanding his love for Springsteen and didn't think his words through."
"That still doesn't give him the right to treat me like shit. I've been standing up for him my whole life, I was hoping he'd be the one to do it for me this time." he mumbled, sulking.
"I know, baby. I'm sorry he upset you." you sighed and pecked his lips once, twice, before kissing him deeply, your fingers weaving into the hair at the nape of his neck. Then you pressed your forehead against his for a quiet moment.
"Come on, we should get back. We need that money if we want to move in together." you reminded him, smiling before kissing him again sweetly. "Let that motivate you."

Star Wars Squadrons-Review
Tumblr media
A tight and well priced dogfighting simulation makes for a targeted but all together fun Star Wars experience.
(Review contains minor spoilers for the Squadrons campaign)
youtube
The Empire is in ruins. After the Battle of Yavin undercut the Imperial leadership and left its forces scattered, the Rebellion formed the New Republic and the Galactic Civil War entered a new stage. Now on close to equal footing, both sides of the war find themselves constantly gunning for each other’s resources and searching for the upper hand. As the New Republic takes on a new secret project, two ace pilots from opposing sides of the war are reassigned to the front lines and must come to terms with a betrayal from years before that now threatens lives regardless of faction.
Star Wars Rogue Squadron was the first Star Wars game I ever played. Before that one of my favorite childhood activities was flying around my little Micromachines Y-Wings for miniaturized galactic bombing runs and dogfights. I’ve loved the pilots of Star Wars and their iconic starfighters for years. It’s one of the best and most enjoyable aspects of the franchise and it’s a joy to finally get to step back into a Star Wars cockpit. And with tight controls and a complex combat system, Squadrons may just be one of the best of its space going type.
At first pass, Star Was Squadrons is overwhelming and intimidating. In addition to the standard flying, dodging, and firing that one would expect, EA Motive introduces a variety of other mechanics such as customizable loadouts, unique ship classes, and an impressively complex system of power diverting. There’s a lot to take in and stepping into online dogfights can lead to hours of vaporizing before one gets the hang of this game’s particular eccentricities and strategies. While it’s definitely not for those unwilling to commit time and energy to getting the hang of its control scheme, when you finally do star to feel confident in piloting a starfighter and start taking the fight to the enemy the result can be fist pumping good time.
Squadron’s mutliplayer is split between two modes: Dogfight and Fleet Battles. Of the two, Dogfight is the more difficult and less inspired. It feels very much like a standard team deathmatch style battle royale with two sides competing against one another kills. It’s unfortunate that Squadrons drops you into this mode first because it’s easy to get disheartened by how easily your brand new X-Wing gets rolled over by more experienced players in TIEs. There’s still fun to be had, but it’s the most barebones of EA Motive’s presentation for Squadrons.
Fleet Battles is the headlining mode for the game though and it’s worth it. Taking place as a consistent tug of war between both the Empire and the New Republic, Fleet Battles rewards cooperation and diverse play styles for players to accomplish goals and push their side of an unfolding space battle to victory. While classes like Support and Bomber may feel largely useless in the Fighter and Interceptor heavy Dogfight, Fleet Battles encourages a balanced team with players taking on different roles at any time. Two bombers could be leading an attack on an enemy flag ship while two interceptors scare away enemy fighters and a support craft provides health and ammunition to squadmates in need. It’s a fun and dynamic large scale combat mode that is addictive and rewarding in equal measure.
I went into Star Wars Squadrons’ campaign expecting the bare minimum. I remember being burned by the hyped up Inferno Squad narrative from Star Wars Battlefront II and knew that any kind of story for this game was going to be a second priority to the online action. Thankfully, I was surprised. While the campaign for Star Wars Squadrons still has its storytelling pit falls, what’s presented is refreshingly personal and enjoyable military space opera.
Following the destruction of Endor, Imperial Pilot Lindon Javes (Phil Morris) abandoned his squad including his protege Terisa Kerrill (Peta Sergeant) to join the Rebel Alliance. Now a high ranking member of the New Republic, Javes is instructed by Hera Syndulla to assist in the development of a mysterious new Repbulic warship, the Starhawk. Meanwhile, the scattered remnants of the Empire aim to stop this project in its tracks and Kerrilll is given the opportunity to exact her revenge on her former ally.
The rivalry and pain brought between these two former friends and allies makes up much of the emotional center of Squadrons’s story. Both Morris and Sergeant inject their characters with the right amount of flawed drive, lingering pain, and regret and many of the narrative’s best beats comes from when one of these two leaders lets their guard down.
Javes and Kerrill aren’t the only standout characters though. One of the unexpected surprises of Squadrons is that you are allowed some breathers between each minute to chat up your crewmates. Not all are as developed as others, but it adds a personal flavor to the battles and conflict. There are some diamonds in the rough though. On the side of the Republic, former Trandoshan conman Frisk, voiced by James Arnold Taylor of The Clone Wars fame, is a joy, bringing a much needed sense of humor and world weary snark to the high stakes action. On the Empire, it’s the beaten down Shen, an Imperial pilot that’s been shot down so many times that most of him is held together by cybernetic parts, who steals the show.
As a player character you take on the role of either a Rebel pilot that assisted Javes in his defection or another squadmate of his that was betrayed along Kerrill. It’s a fun framing device to bring your faceless and mostly silent character into the narrative and adds a personal streak to both sides of the campaign. This flip flopping of allegiances makes for some of the script’s best moments. There’s a certain guilty joy in creating problems that you know that the other half of your story is going to have to fix and vice versa. Both the New Republic and the Empire have their moments of glory and success but also their failures and you get to be right at the front of it all.
If the Squadrons story fails in any way it’s in creating a lack of consequence. The set up of the campaign invites a scenario where both your Republic squadron and Imperial team come face to face and inflict hurton the other, but this surprisingly never occurs. Similarly, both sides more or less make off with what they wanted in the terms of the narrative. Despite being a story about mixed empathy and personal limits in wartime, neither side really reaches a breaking a point and the ending cinematic for both teams is equally triumphant. It’s a disappointingly simplistic move for a smart set up for the story and it undercuts some of the strong work that came before.
Luckily the gameplay itself is strong, mixing together various different battle scenarios and set pieces to keep the 6 hour run time chugging along smoothly without growing stale.
Out of the cockpit, EA Motive offers a decent amount of customization for pilots and ships. It’s nothing too intensive, but it’s a fun bit of personalization to a game that you are likely to sink hours into its multiplayer.
For $39.99, Star Wars Squadrons is exactly what you pay for. A well polished core gameplay mechanic employed in smart ways through dogfights, cooperative play, and an above average campaign. Combat flight sim gamers are sure to love this trip to the Galaxy Far, Far Away and fans of the franchise might find the experience just as rewarding.

Blinded by the Light: ***1/2 out of 5
Tumblr media
Blinded by the Light tells the story of a British teen of South Asian descent whose passion for the songs of Bruce Springsteen inspires him to pursue his own—wait a minute…didn’t we already see this movie, called Yesterday, a few months back? And hasn’t there been a slew of these jukebox musicals within the last year, involving the music of icons like The Beatles, Queen, Elton John and ABBA?
Correct. Hollywood had its vampire craze then moved on to superheroes and now it’s capitalizing on the sweet tunes of the ‘70s and ‘80s (presumably to counter the sour tunes of the present). Whether this trend will fizzle out like the former or continue burning bright like the latter remains uncertain, but the film du jour certainly makes a case for the latter.
Obviously, it has striking similarities to Yesterday, but unlike that fantasy involving a musician who awakens following a crash to discover The Beatles don’t exist, Blinded by the Light is inspired by a real person’s incredible story. As a youth, Sarfraz Manzoor discovered the power of Springsteen’s beloved blue-collar folk tunes. Today, he’s a journalist, documentary maker and broadcaster; he even co-wrote this film with director Gurinder Chadha and writer Paul Mayeda, a project based on the memoir Greetings from Bury Park: Race, Religion and Rock N’ Roll written by, of course, Manzoor. That Springsteen fellow can certainly make an impression.
Tumblr media
And our protagonist, going by the name of Javed Khan and played by the charismatic Viveik Kalra in his feature debut, really could use some inspiration. A British-Pakistani student, Javed lives in the rough and gritty Luton, England just north of London in 1987 when Springsteen had already passed his prime. Yet, Javed couldn’t care less because the music becomes an antidote to his dreary life spent in a cramped apartment with four other family members in a bleak town composed of mostly white people, many of whom are ardent racists.
The main source of his frustration, though, is his authoritarian father, Malik (Kulvinder Ghir), the stereotypical ‘man of the house’ who belittles Javed’s love of writing poetry and listening to rock music, believing his son’s main priority should be providing for himself and family. But, when Roops (Aaron Phagura), the only other South Asian student at school, introduces Javed to Springsteen, the boy experiences a newfound sense of liberty.
It’s so easy to share in the pure joy Javed feels while listening. We do so partly because we’ve been waiting to hear the music for at least a half hour but mostly because—well—the music is just so damn great. No one will accuse this film of being terribly original, but there are some neat flourishes that jazz things up, like when we hear The Boss’s music while the lyrics literally pop up on screen as if they’re thought bubbles produced by Javed’s sheer excitement. It’s this excitement, coupled with the encouragement from his teacher, Ms. Clay (Hayley Atwell), and a few others that leads him to recover his poems that he had thrown away as well as the motivation to continue pursuing his craft.
Tumblr media
Of course, this enrages his father who, to add fuel to the fire, just lost his job. The uneasy dynamic between father and son forms the dramatic and emotional foundation of the film, and though it sometimes results in melodrama, it still works. For a while, Malik comes across as a one-dimensional stereotype, huffing and puffing about rules and priorities. But, the writers build this character into something more than a mere plot device, so we actually empathize with a man who can be such a curmudgeon at times. It would’ve been nice if the females around Javed were developed a bit more, namely his crush Eliza (Nell Williams), his mother Noor (Meera Ganatra) and his two sisters Shazia and Yasmeen (Nikita Mehta, Tara Divina).
Despite all the roadblocks, Javed continues singing and dancing all over with Eliza and Roops often tagging along. Now, make no mistake: this film is unabashedly corny and over-the-top, illustrated best in a sequence in which Javed sneaks into the high school radio station to play ‘Born to Run’ for the entire student body while the trio runs through the streets of Luton, stopping only to sing and dance with the locals. Some viewers will roll their eyes, but I suspect more will love it; if ‘Born to Run’ doesn’t excite you, I really don’t know what will. Yeah, it’s all cheesy as hell, but damn is it fun. Although, I could’ve done with fewer instances of characters incorporating Springsteen lyrics into actual conversations. It’s a bit much.
Tumblr media
Nonetheless, the movie’s earnestness can be surprisingly infectious. That’s due in no small part to Kalra’s charming performance. He wins us over with those wide eyes and even wider smile, coupled with an almost limitless enthusiasm. It’s a joy to go on this coming-of-age journey with such a likable young man. At times, some bad people threaten to ruin the party in ways that feel pretty dark for a film like this, as in a neo Nazi rally near the end that isn’t so easy to digest. But, the optimistic spirit of this film usually wins the day, even if it comes in the form of easy answers and wish fulfillment.
Let’s be honest, our world is crumbling around us as we speak and it can be easy to despair, yet Blinded by the Light is sure to put a smile on the faces of even the most unwavering cynics.

Fuck yer Paywall:  Delayed Homeland Security Report Warns of 'Lethal' White Supremacy
WASHINGTON — The Department of Homeland Security warned on Tuesday that violent white supremacy was the “most persistent and lethal threat in the homeland” in an annual evaluation {that a} former intelligence chief had accused the company of withholding in deference to President Trump.
The intelligence chief-turned-whistle-blower final month accused the department of blocking the report and directing analysts to minimize the risk of violent white racism in addition to Russian election interference to align the company’s message with the president’s. But the ultimate report appeared to do no such factor.
The risk evaluation highlighted white supremacists as probably the most lethal amongst home terrorists lately and Russia as the first risk to spreading disinformation.
“I am particularly concerned about white supremacist violent extremists who have been exceptionally lethal in their abhorrent, targeted attacks in recent years,” Chad F. Wolf, the appearing secretary of homeland safety, wrote within the foreward to the evaluation. The risk report additionally acknowledged that “Russia is the likely primary covert influence actor and purveyor of disinformation and misinformation within the homeland.”
The company additionally highlighted Iran and China’s cyberwarfare talents and warned of a possible surge in migration to the southwest border.
The delayed launch of the report has been a degree of scrutiny for a division that has confronted constant accusations of morphing right into a software for Mr. Trump’s re-election marketing campaign. After the division singled out home terrorists and particularly white supremacists in a terrorism framework in September 2019, the company’s management dedicated to releasing a follow-up evaluation to the risk in addition to a blueprint to confront it inside months. It took far longer.
Brian Murphy, who was demoted from his put up because the Homeland Security Department’s intelligence chief in August, stated final month in a whistle-blower complaint that Mr. Wolf and his deputy, Kenneth T. Cuccinelli, blocked the discharge of the evaluation as a result of of how it will “reflect upon President Trump.”
The Homeland Security blueprint did lastly emerge, shortly after Mr. Murphy’s grievance. It included $10 million for nonprofits and different organizations to forestall extremist violence.
The administration’s remedy of white supremacy re-emerged as a problem final week, when Mr. Trump did not condemn white racist violence through the presidential debate, even after Christopher A. Wray, the F.B.I. director, affirmed to Congress the deadly risk of the racist extremists.
Now, the Homeland Security Department has carried out so within the evaluation.
“This threat assessment confirms two things: that white supremacist extremists are the top domestic threat to the homeland, and they are often inspired by President Trump’s rhetoric,” stated Representative Bennie Thompson, Democrat of Mississippi and the chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee.
The risk evaluation for probably the most half mirrored drafts that have been leaked to the public, refuting issues that the division would dilute any warnings. The division did add a piece absent from earlier variations of the report, titled “exploitation of lawful and protected speech and protests.”
The part echoed Mr. Trump’s description of city governments led by Democrats as fostering chaos.
“We have seen over 100 days of violence and destruction in our cities,” based on the report. “The co-opting of lawful protests led to destruction of government property and have turned deadly.”
While a majority of the protests in opposition to police violence and racism this summer season have been peaceable, some did embody people who dedicated violent acts, together with in Portland, Ore., the place the Homeland Security Department despatched teams of tactical agents. The aggressive strategies of these brokers, together with forcing demonstrators into unmarked vehicles and utilizing tear fuel, is under investigation by the inspectors common for the Homeland Security and Justice Departments.
Some demonstrators additionally lobbed commercial-grade fireworks at a federal courthouse and the brokers surrounding it. A self-proclaimed supporter of the loose-knit motion often known as antifa was additionally accused of fatally shooting a right-wing activist who was half of a pro-Trump caravan in Portland. That antifa supporter, Michael Forest Reinoehl, was shot and killed final month by regulation enforcement brokers earlier than he might be taken into custody.
Updated
Oct. 6, 2020, 7:18 p.m. ET
While the risk evaluation doesn’t particularly point out antifa, it does warn of anti-government teams that would commit violence below the guise of protests. Last May, a suspected member of the boogaloo, a usually right-wing motion that seeks to carry a few second civil conflict, shot and killed a member of the Federal Protective Service throughout protests in Oakland, Calif. Mr. Trump blamed “the left” for the killing.
The report additionally warns that extremist teams might be impressed to assault as a result of of restrictions to restrict the unfold of the coronavirus.
“We also remain particularly concerned about the impacts from Covid-19, where anti-government and anti-authority violent extremists could be motivated to conduct attacks in response to perceived infringement of liberties and government overreach,” the report stated.
It additionally indicated that the division was making ready for a rise in migration to the southwestern border. Homeland safety analysts warned that the easing of coronavirus restrictions may result in a rise in border crossings by land and sea.
The division has cited the pandemic in utilizing a public well being emergency to seal the border to migrants, quickly returning most to Mexico or different nations with out providing to assessment their asylum claims.
In an interview with CBS revealed on Monday, Mr. Wolf defended the evaluation, noting that the Russia risk was talked about a number of instances. But he additionally asserted that “the most long-term strategic threat to Americans, to the homeland and really to our way of life would be the threat from China,” a place that mirrors Mr. Trump’s.
In the report, analysts described China as exploiting shortages of vital provides, committing mental property theft and waging disinformation campaigns on the web. As for election interference, China and Iran have for probably the most half focused Mr. Trump, however intelligence officers have stated that Russia introduced a extra extreme short-term risk.
Javed Ali, a former senior director on the National Security Council below Mr. Trump, stated the homeland risk evaluation was reassuring “given the significant politicization that has occurred” within the Homeland Security Department.
“It was good to see the H.T.A. take a more objective, nonpartisan and analytically driven perspective on cataloging the major homeland threats,” Mr. Ali stated, referring to the evaluation.

What motivates you to pursue excellence in law
Hi, I am Anubhav from team Lawsikho. I have been playing music since I was 3. Music, specifically acoustic/indie genre, motivates me.
Pushes me.
Inspires me to look at different colours of life from a panoramic view.
Javed Akhtar’s style of lyrics, particularly Toh Zinda Ho Tum moves my soul. Whenever I get an opportunity, I plug my earphones in and listen to Farhan Akhtar’s voice, Pighle Neelam Sa Behta Hua Ye Sama….Toh Zinda Ho Tum.
A strange thing happened yesterday. My WhatsApp flooded with messages. Senior IPS officer, Mr Sandeep Mittal quoted my video on Section 121 of the Indian Penal Code over a Twitter War. The Tweet was for Farhan Akhtar on his Statement on organising a rally against the newly amended provision of the Citizenship Amendment Act.
Overnight, my video went viral. I saw myself in almost all the leading newspaper gossip sections.
Friends and colleagues congratulated me for my newfound fame. They asked me to share this as a success story.
Honestly, I am happy and overwhelmed – at least, Farhan Akhtar might have seen my video. This is great validation for me.
While this empowers me, such things happen once in a blue moon. They are serendipitous accidents. I cannot really count on them.
Let me share with you the real reason for my motivation for performing my work as a budding lawyer.
This reason is far stronger.
I started working with iPleaders as an author on the iPleaders blog. I was paid INR 100 for a legal article.
Gradually, I took up the entire responsibility of managing the posts on iPleaders Blog and in two years, the blog started hitting new records in terms of viewership.
Click Above
10,00,000 visitors a month.
Many people identified me to be the catalyst for the growth of the iPleaders Blog. I was a mini success story.
I did this while I was still studying law, sitting in my dorm room with my cosy blanket over me, a cup of coffee and the college wifi connection.
After a couple of years, I decided to take a different path.
I started working with LawSikho for an entirely new project. Our aim was to create a video library for all the subjects taught in law school over a period of 5 or 3 years, as the case may be.
We started well. We created a library for CrPC and IPC. You can check them on our LawSikho Youtube Channel.
Playlist of CrPC
Playlist of IPC
Although I made tremendous effort in creating an exhaustive, well explained, classroom experience of learning the law, it did not work out as planned and I had to quit the project.
But I learnt a lot about the law, about teaching and about recording YouTube videos.
I can now counsel and train other law students really well, whether it pertains to guidance regarding their career choices or coaching them on how to write and publish articles which are widely read.
In the meanwhile, Abhyuday also asked me to share my experience in legal research and writing to train students of LawSikho courses on how to write better.
I had been a senior editor headed the work of interns for iPleaders Blog. Having trained more than a thousand students from all over the country on how to write articles, I gladly took up the opportunity.
For this month, I am also guiding various students and young lawyers on the career choices they can make.
Today, I spoke to a mother of twins, who was undergoing a tough marriage. Rejected thrice in the Interview rounds of UPSC CSE, she asked me how to write an article on, “Can daughter-in-law seek maintenance for herself, her children as well as for her father and mother in law”.
Being a student, she trusted me and told me what she is undergoing right now and wishes to write an article for all those who are undergoing a similar situation. She wanted the law to be accessible for all those who are in need.
I guided her in making a structure for her article, and identification of the points she could cover.
Very soon, she understood how to go about the project.
I was clear that she will complete this.
I was extremely joyous.
What is common in all the incidents above is that I had acquired some very unique skills. It drove me towards excellence. It puts me in a position to contribute in a big way to others.
This joy is far more reliable and consistent, in comparison to my video going viral.
Over the past few years, I have developed my skills in different areas – legal research, writing blog posts, managing others, SEO, etc. significantly. I have worked on various tasks that others do not perform.
Acquisition of these skills has driven me towards excellence. It also puts me in a position to contribute to others. It enables others to repose their trust in me and to count on me.
You can have this experience too.
Build your ability to contribute. Acquire skills. Use them to contribute or provide value to others.
You need to work consistently over a period of time to acquire unique skill-sets.
If you have no skills, you cannot contribute. You cannot pursue excellence without acquiring skills.
It just took me two years of serious work to grow iPleaders blog to one of the most widely read legal blogs in the world.
Who would have known that a 4th year law school kid could achieve this? Many people who do not know me think I am some senior practitioner.
Imagine where you can be if you focus two years of your life on acquiring skills that enable you to contribute to a client.
You might be far ahead of your peers, in fact, even far ahead of some lawyers with 2-3 years of experience.
How do you plan to build your skill-sets? How can you pursue excellence?
Share your responses with me. I’ll reply to everyone. Also, let me know if you would like to have a conversation with me.
If you want to acquire skills to serve clients as a lawyer, here are some of the courses which are currently open for enrolment:
DIPLOMA
Diploma in Business Laws for In House Counsels

Mars and her comic Long Exposure resparked my motivation to sketch/draw again and I will be forever thankful for that. I'm not a professional or a famous artist, but I jave always loved to draw and used this as my personal outlet ever since I was young. But after starting college, I drew less and less until months have passed since the last time I drew. And then I discovered webcomics and started to have inspirations again but it wasn't enough for me to start drawing. It wasn't until I stumbled over Long Exposure and started to interact with the fandom and the author that I really really felt the need to draw. I've never submitted or shared a fanart before but after seeing how happy Mars was everytime she gets a fan work from her readers - no matter how good it is - I got encourage to join in the fun as well and draw for her to show how much I loved her comic and how inspiring she is to me. I love Long Exposure, the author Mars a.k.a @smokeplanet, and The Fandom. I'm so glad and thankful I've stumbled into this family.

The Riddle
A terrible blank page stands against a bloody terrific idea. That's the genesis of any good story. But five days, fifteen shags and hundred cigarette butts later all that was lying in front of me was only a blank page staring at me with ridicule. But a writer's life is not that pale after all. He always manages to steal a color or two from the life's canvas, especially from his own.
(Meanwhile, the doorbell chimes) How ironic the life can be! You spend days vegetating on a chair, with hardly any signs of thrill or enthusiasm. And then suddenly out of the blue, your life is thrown upside down. But this one felt a little different. As if my story had finally found its way forward and was knocking on my door, waiting to surprise me. "Dada dustbin." said the bloody sweeper standing outside the door. My phone had rung at the same time. Huff! With disappointment frothing on my face I picked up the phone and fetched my dustbin and then hand over it to him. "Hello.." I responded to the call. It was the same old call from the bank asking for some annoying insurance policies that I was never interested in. I realized that I mistakenly gave him my paper bin to the sweeper instead of my dustbin. The very moment I opened my door to give him my dustbin, what I had seen really surprised me out of my wits. He was stumbling across my paper bin. The wrappers were being scattered on the floor and his busy hand was continuously searching something into the bin. “Hey!” I shouted at him. He looked at me furiously and then stormed off my sight picking up the wrappers from the floor.
Didn't I tell you? A writer always manages to steal a color or two from life's canvas. Javed miya. I'm not really sure since when he is working here. Collecting dustbin from people's houses, buying groceries for them, cleaning their house, cars, toilet etc. Helping them pay their monthly bills and even arranging weed for the young residents of the colony. Mister Javed was the antidote to everybody's problem. Beyond that people were hardly interested in or bother about him. But not me. Have you ever had any hobbies? Collecting stamps, coins, postcards. I have even heard of people collecting chocolate wrappers and matchboxes for a change. But Mister Javed. His fascination lay in exploring through people's dustbins. Which people broke up? Who spent how much in shopping? Who had the most sumptuous meal the night before? And what were they up to all night be long? All these records are something that he derives from the evidences such as torn pieces of photographs, shopping bills, packed-meal packets, thrown condoms and so on respectively. I had never come across a more ingenious way to take a peep into people's personal lives. There was one just problem. What should one do to delve into his life?Since I started to keep my eyes on him every now and then. One day he was sitting alone in the corridor flipping through the pages of an old newspaper when a gang of teenagers of the colony arrived and stood behind him.
“Javed miya...” called a gang of boys seeing him lying on the corridor peering into a page of an English daily."
“Salam saheb.” he responded.
“Do you even know how to read English or are you just ogling at the actress?” asked one of them.
“No saheb, actually, I've studied till the sixth standard.” said Javed hastily.
“So you getting us 'the thing' for us tonight. Aren't you?” asked a boy among the group, about the weed with a gesture. “Yes sir, I'm.” he said.
One among the teenagers and his cronies saw me in distress and then stormed off next. My curiosity upon this man had begun to increase as if I was about to discover a new plot for my next story. I had found the amazing way to reach out to him. There are two things which get men together. The hollow despair of love lost and the psychedelic high of the tabooed drug. One day when Javed knocked on my door I welcomed him inside and asked for a company offering a shag of weed. I had always heard of the two things that I already mentioned. Today I got to see it as well. Getting high on the weed we began to chat. He kept blabbering his nonsense sitting on the floor. “....The shopkeeper asked me what did I want? I enquired him if they kept biscuits to feed the dogs. He asked- "should I pack it or you'll have it right here? Hahaha.....”
“Javed, what did you do before you come here?” I asked him.
“You won't tell anyone. Will you?” he whispered coming closer to my ear “I used to be Gabbar Singh sir, I’m hiding from the police over here.” he laughed.
“And I used to be in the police. Whenever I found anyone sneaking into people’s dustbin I used to kick his ass out.” I said and sat on a chair. He seemed barely paying any attention to me though.
“Won’t you have some more weed, dada?” asked Javed with a stoner voice. “Are you scared of death from overdose of it?”
“Has anyone ever died of smoking weed?” I said flipping through the pages of my scrapbook. “But yes, if you poison it with say... Sodium Thiopental, then a man can die a slow death unawares.”
“Is it all written there?" asked Javed with his mouth wide opened and dropping his jaw down.
“This is my Bible, boy.” I said in a hubris manner “whatever I find a peculiar death case published in the newspaper I cut it out and paste it over here. Serves as a good inspiration for my stories you know.”
“Eh dada, what’s there in a story anyway?” he said with a snide remark “I can make up a couple of stories immediately. Many a times we ourselves are a part of an interesting story but are hardly aware of it.”
“Hunh!”
“No seriously. I swear.” he said then asked without giving me any chance to cut him in midway. “has there never been an occurrence of anything extraordinary in your life?”
“There had been once. But it was just too ordinary to be written about.” I said. “Dada, does it have anything interesting?” he said pointing to my scrapbook. “Want to hear the most interesting one?” I ratted out aloud. “Listen : The victim was butchered into small pieces and then remains were dissolved in chemicals before being flushed out.
“Oh! dada, did the murder bring chemical along with him?”
“Hunh! Bloody cold-blooded killer. Not only that, even ammonia. So that the stains of the blood lying around could be wiped off.”
“Allah! Hardly any trace of the girl after she was murdered.” Javed uttered surprisingly. “then how come the police ever found out the crime?”
“That asshole made a mistake.” I said. “He left two chopped off toes on the floor.” Javed’s mouth flung open wider than the previous time. “Do you know which is the most dangerous place in the world Javed? It’s right here.” I said pointing towards the brain.
“That criminal must have used....” he started yawning “....must have used a Bowie knife to chop her off. Isn't it dada? What pleasure does one get out of such ghastly acts, dada?” I lit a cigarette and blew a stream of smokes out of my lips before taking a deep breath in. “Pleasure, passion, intoxication, sickness...name it whatever you want.”
“Not sickness dada.” Javed continued. “My uncle used to be a police constable. He had told me that these people are very dangerous. Once they set their eyes on a prey they shadow the target for days together like a hawk. And then... before you know it, the victim is gone.”
I was getting annoyed of his blabbering. I just wanted to sneak into his life. “So, have you ever found anything apart from rubbish inside people’s bins?” I asked. “Naa dada, everything just a waste of time.”
“Come on, you must have find something. Come on, surprise me!” I gave my ear to him and he started to whisper. “That Mina madam who stays upstairs....” he began to elaborate but I cut him off. “Yeah, she is having an affair with the son of the building secretary. It’s an open secret.”
“Aarey dada...then hear about the stuff no one knows about. That secretary’s son caught skin infection from somewhere. One fine morning I saw him scratching his whole while going to Mina madam's room to collect the dustbin. She was very upset. “God knows from where do these people get such infections?” she said. She then asked me to get a couple of medicines from the chemist. Do you know what I found a few days later? That Anita madam...”    “Anita madam, who?” I interrupted once again.
“Aarey, that Anita madam who stays on the ground floor, had the same medicine packets in her dustbins. Now you tell me sir, from where do these people get such infections? Hahaha... It totally beats me how these people manages to do all these...” he said and started laughing. I too joined him with the flow. “I can't afford to be the sharing sort. Be it love or the money.” he added.
“What did I ask you Javed? Have you ever found anything apart from rubbish inside people’s bins? I’ve not invited you to start bitching up about others. C’mon surprise me!” I said almost cursedly this time. “Eita ki dada, you continue to swear at me in English. You’re not even telling anything about you. Is it about any girl?” he probed. I didn’t say anything.
“If it’s about any girl then why are you staying away from me? It’s about a girl, isn't it?” he inquired offering me joint that he was busy rolling. He even lit it for me and I dragged in a long puff from the joint. I was compelled to go into the roundabout of my flashback which I was trying so hard hard to erase.                                                               (flashback)
THE BITCH
I started recalling about the first time I saw her demurred in a creamy white kurti, holding a stack of books in her arms, which then suddenly fell on the ground. She started shuffling the books scattered on the floor with a clear sign of nuisance in her face of which I initially dared myself even not to look at her. But ended up peering at her frequently being rooted to my study table.
                            ....................................
“It happened a few months back.” I fetched out a new cigarette from the packet and started to narrated my story to Javed pouring it out of my utmost seclusion. “Renown columnist of Kolkata Dr. Alakesh Chetterji had once  gifted me an antique sculpture, which was one of his ancestral properties, as a  token of love when I went his home as an invited visitor. In those days, I used to visit the central library more often in order to research for something personal. And before I knew, my motive of visiting the library had become something else. You know what I mean.” Javed listened to me with compassion.
“Has this ever happened to you Javed that you are dreaming and suddenly you realize this in the middle of everything, but you still keep your eyes closed and let the events in the dream take their course because...  because... you bloody so want to go with the flow. I got a similar feeling at that point of time. Deep down I felt that all this might be  an illusion, but I couldn't resist myself from being overwhelmed by  her.”
“Aami kichu bujhte pari na dada.” said Javed scratching his head. I filled him about the girl I accidentally met at the central library of Kolkata.
I dragged in a long puff of the joint and then exhaled it slowly.  The strain was heavier this time “I called her to my room that night.” I started again smoking the joint “and by the time I woke up next morning she was gone. Bloody hell. But along with her my precious sculpture of was also missing. I started looking for it here and there like an insane. I waited for her at the library for days, together I tried inquiring about her from various people around but all to no avail. She had lied to me about her name as well.”
“Was she not seen with anyone else, ever?” asked Javed.
“I am not sure, there might be someone, but... huh, I am not sure. But you know what? What happened next was totally unexpected. What was making me run from pillar to post had surprisingly come to my door via a courier.  I found back what I actually thought of getting stolen. Why did she  ever enter my life and then left me without a trace is a riddle..that  I’ve never been able to solve.” I moved inside and then fetched out the precious sculpture to show it off to Javed. “This is the first time I  am taking it out after that fateful day.”
“Allah!” he exclaimed looking at the antique sculpture out of the blue with his mouth flung wide open once again. “What do you think would  be it's worth?” I asked him with utmost pride in my voice.
“Say, fifty to sixty thousand?” he made a wild guess.
“Hunh!” I curved a wry smile. “and what if it's five-ten centuries old? Javed... the older they get the more precious they become. Did you get it? All you need to do is to find the right customer to sell it to and you’ll earn enough fortune to last a lifetime. Understood?”
I started recalling again the day when I gave my visiting card to her in the library and saying “I’ll be waiting for you. Her  razor-sharped cheesy words had started chiming in my ear. “Never thought this would happen but guess, couldn't resist fall in love with you.”   Bitch! Life sometimes, women always.
“Dada...”
“Huh?” Javed’s words brought me back to the reality.
“I.. I too have a story to tell. Want me to?” he asked. The strain of the weed was quite heavy as I said. “Go on.” I nodded slowly. And then he continued...
USE ME
“It was my one of those regular days at work. After collecting people’s  dustbin I took to my favorite pastime. I had stumbled a stack of pieces of paper from the dustbin and then started reading it one after another.  It read: LALGARH RESIDENCY—WHERE—WE CAN MEET—WHAT LIES—BENEATH  IT—ONE BIG SECRET—FORGET IT—IF YOU ARE —NOT—INTERESTED.
For days together ‘Lalgarh residency’ had been running on my mind. I  kept wondering what would have been lying beneath it. I thought it must have been some forbidden treasure. Then one night I  mustered courage and left in search of the place. I was headed towards it riding a bicycle. It was a rainy and dark night that my heart skipped a beat for my mission to discover the unknown. After cycling miles of distance, I found a signboard written the same name from the piece of paper. LALGARH RESIDENCY—WHAT LIES—BENEATH  IT.  My heart started biting faster than the normal rate. Do you know what I  found there buried in a big airbag? The same antique sculpture as yours!  It must have been for the first time that someone like me stuck gold digging a dustbin. My days of misery were about to over for sure. I didn't stop neither did I tell anyone about it in my way back to my house. But I  don't know how did it disappear from the bag of its own? I think it must have been possessed by some evil spirit. Otherwise, how would it disappear of its own?  I never told anyone about this incident otherwise people would have thought me to be crazy. But I am not pulling this out of thin air.  Trust me dada!”  His narration had scared me the hell out of my wits.
“Oh fuck! Are you sure about the address” I asked, “I mean, Lalgarh  residency?" “Yes, I am pretty sure, but..why?”
“............” I paused.
“What happened, dada?” Javed asked. I got a mild ache inside my head, not sure whether it was due to the weed or his story. Coincidence or what? I made an instant trip of my roller-coaster flashback, once gain.
SURPRISE ME
I saw a girl demured in a creamy white kurti, holding a stack of books in her arms, which then suddenly fell on the ground. She started shuffling the books scattered on the floor with a clear sign of nuisance in her face of which I initially dared myself even not to look at her. But ended up peering at her frequently being rooted to my study table. She had thrust out a piece of paper on my desk since everyone around us was maintaining silence inside the central library. I looked at the paper. It read: INTERESTED?  I fetched a piece of paper and wrote ‘NOT’ over it and placed upon the first one. My brief answer. ‘IF YOU ARE’ she executed her counter move. ‘FORGET IT’ I wrote back.
“Why are you after me?” I said. “Ssshhh!” she shued me holding her forefinger upon her lips.
“Why are you after me?” I whispered. She had placed another piece of paper: ONE BIG SECRET.
“What do you want?” I whispered again and she pointed at my shirt.
“My shirt?” I asked without uttering any word. She pointed to my heart, literally, again. ‘BENEATH IT’ she replied again with another piece of paper. Now it seemed pretty playful.  WHAT LIES? I wrote back. CAN WE MEET? she wrote WHERE? I asked. I think she jotted down her address or something in the last piece of paper but I didn’t bother to read this one. “I will be  waiting for you.” I said instead giving her my visiting card. I dropped all the stack of paper into the dustbin in somewhere in my campus. Meanwhile, Javed seemed to be lost in his deep reverie. He started remembering the whole pieces of  paper that he had read which was actually in the reverse order: LALGARH RESIDENCY—WHERE—WE CAN MEET—WHAT LIES—BENEATH  IT—ONE BIG SECRET—FORGET IT—IF YOU ARE—NOT—INTERESTED
                                         .........................
(A man in an overcoat gets into the room of a girl when she opens the door in the midnight. “You! What are you doing here so late?” she whispers, deadpanned. “ I have had the sculpture where you had asked me to. Wh... What happened? Wh... Why are you looking at me like this? What.. What the fuck is wrong with you?"  she falters.
Thud! Thud!  Thud!  The man bangs on the girl’s head with an iron rod. The blood oozes out of her head and before she could scream or do something she falls on the ground: all blood-drenched!  The man pulls her in towards the bathtub and starts butchering the dead body into small pieces with the help of a tiles cutter. The two chopped fingers of the victim accidentally fall beneath the bathtub which doesn't come to the notice of the murderer. He then washes the stain of blood from  the floor and the wall as well. No trace of the victim’s body!)                                                 .........................
I stood still, saying not a single word. I was not sure if Javed could sense what I was actually thinking right that moment. “Dada... Does the newspaper article of the murder read Lalgarh residency?” he asked at last. I nodded getting confirmed that the victim was none other than the girl who was so close to me, be it for a very short duration, at least. “But dada, how did it happen? Such a huge coincidence!”
It took me a while to analyze and summarize everything within a jiffy.  One good thing about the weed: it strives the mind for an outcome very fast. I slowly began to deduct the whole layout in front of him into one single unit. “She never wanted to steal the antique sculpture from me in the first place.” I said, my voice stoner now. Damn the weed! Unlike every day it was feeling weird this time. “She just made a replica of the original sculpture to deceive her partner whoever it was” I elaborated it out. “but Javed, you got your hands on it first. She always wanted me to own it. But by the time her partner couldn't found it where it was  buried, her partner might have brutally killed her.”
“But dada, how come the duplicate one disappear on its own from the bag?”
“It's because..” Oh, my head! It was barely under control. “It's because that one was made up of salt.” I said dizzily.
“Salt?” Javed was surprised.
“Yes, I remember the books she used to carry on the very first day  were of all about inorganic salt, artwork on sculpture and some such  stuff.”
Javed kept quite. He seemed thoughtful for a moment. “Three lives touched each other so deeply and inspire of being so near to each other we hardly get a whiff of it,” he said bewildered at the whole scenario. And before I could say anything I  fell on the ground. By the time it was about to dawn.
“Dada, what happened dada?” Javed held me by my arms and made me sit on a chair. No nothing. I think I had just too much weed last night.”
“Please take some rest dada. I'll leave.”
“That's okay Javed, let me clear your dues of this month.” I said tried to enter in my bedroom.
“Na dada, I’ll take it later.” I heard him saying and everything else turned out to be hazy... unearned... unheard and weird to me. My head began to spin. I could no more stand properly without any support. Words from our conversation kept rambling around my head and it started to baffle me around. “If it's about a girl then why are you shying away from me?”  “The victim was butchered into small pieces and the remains were dissolved in chemicals before being flushed out.” “You know which is the most dangerous place in the world? This one: the brain.” “Hardly any trace of the girl after she was murdered?”
WAIT!  What!!! How come he knew about it? I never mentioned it the victim was a boy or a girl. Then how come he..? Oh, my... My head started aching. My vision got blurred. I could barely breathe in. All it was the words of Javed which started repeatedly flowing in. “Many a time we ourselves are part of an  interesting story.” “I used to be Gabbar Singh, dada..” “Was she not  seen with anyone else ever?” “What's about this story dada, I can make a couple immediately right here.” “Has anyone ever died of smoking weed? But yes, if you poison it with say... ‘Sodium Thiopental’...” I fell on the ground. I started wriggling like a spider and started suffocating. And it was not due to weed but something else, so lethal!I somehow managed to crawl to the room where we were gossiping around. Oh, my.... I can’t breathe! The living room was empty. Not only Javed but the precious antique sculpture was also vanished! I felt numb. All I could sense was his voice which kept ringing in my ear “My uncle told me that these criminals are very dangerous. Once they set their eyes on a prey they shadow the target for days together like a hawk. And then... before you know it, the victim is gone.”  Oh, my throat! I.. I can’t breathe. I can’t fucking breathe. Help! Help!!
                                               THE END

The Hawa Badlo campaign is one of the most effective initiatives against air pollution which has managed to engage as many as 6.8 million people with more than 1 million reach on social media. The campaign started when a four year old rubbished the idea of firing crackers this Diwali and educated five adults in his family to #ChangeTheAir in his locality. This astonishing instance motivated a group of enthusiasts at Social Cloud Ventures Pvt Ltd to give birth to the idea of “HAWA BADLO” and bring about a change in the capital labeled as being one of the world’s most polluted cities.
The song is a duet with Harshdeep Kaur & Javed Ali,  with lyrics by Protiqe Majumdar and music by Bishakh Jyoti.
Harshdeep Kaur states, “This is not just another song but an anthem meant to inspire people and help create mass awareness. I aligned forces with this campaign because I endorse the idea of a cleaner and greener tomorrow for future generations. On more than one occasion I have noticed how I always land up getting a bad throat on instances I travel from Mumbai to New Delhi and being singers we are generally a lot more sensitive and cautious. I just want to urge not just Delhi but every other city in the country to take measures to minimize air pollution. It’s great to be associated to a social cause and let music spread a social message like this.”
The Hawa Badlo campaign was the motivation behind the ‘Air Seller’ video which introduced the idea of selling freshly packaged air which seemed to be the need of the hour in a heavily polluted city such as Delhi. Letter from... A sports activities studying listing
A college classmate and I have been discussing what number of unread issues we had of the magazine The Sportstar. We have been invested deeply in the game and the mag was our window into the world of Steffi Graf and Mohammad Azharuddin, my favorites then. If I had extra unread issues of the magazine, it intended I had spent longer reading for the assessments—and for this reason destined for better outcomes. The other day, brought about with the aid of a Facebook put up, I certainly recollected this conversation, which befell many years in the past.
The submit soliciting for recommendations for sports books got me questioning: As adults, we equate the summer season with heat, fatigue, inflammation, mangoes, and a lack of urge for food. But as youngsters, summer became a completely satisfied time of vacations and game—playing and reading about it (especially, in case you grew up in small-city India). In the olden days, television showed you what took place in suits, but newspaper and magazine articles informed you what happened off the sphere as well. I binge study Sunil Gavaskar’s Sunny Days one summer time vacation, fascinated to have got admission to a participant’s non-public thoughts within the days earlier than sanitized syndicated newspaper columns and Instagram.
What makes books on or through sportspersons or books on recreation itself exciting? While the rest of us mortals are nonetheless handling homework and what to do for the duration of vacations, pinnacle athletes are already single-mindedly pursuing excellence. Nadia Comaneci, for example, became an Olympic champion in gymnastics at 14.
While the relaxation people are starting to select careers or chase promotions, sportspersons are already “retired”. They tour the world, cope with a huge variety of human beings, undergo more ache and ecstasy and develop up faster than the rest folks—Sachin Tendulkar is a working example. Their lives are tales of persistence, dedication, and complications, which can be motivating and heartbreaking and oh-so-authentic. It takes passion, and pain, to get to the pinnacle of the wearing global. For instance, while jockey Pesi Shroff, who had retired after a protracted, illustrious career, become asked in an interview what he might do next, he stated, “eat”. Jockeys should maintain their weight strictly below control, which restricts their weight loss program.
Sports books combine the first-rate attributes of fiction and non-fiction. I am a mean—and pretty gradual—reader. But the buddy’s put up reminded of some books I even have examined and hints from different friends allowed me to feature to a developing reading wishlist. I am simultaneously reading Joe Moran’s Shrinking Violets: The Secret Life of Shyness, which although now not a sports activities e-book, has a bankruptcy analyzing the reticence of George Best and Bobby Charlton and how it manifested in their video games. Comaneci’s visit to India recently sparked my interest in Lola Lafon’s The Little Communist Who Never Smiled, which tells (and reimagines) her life as a young female in a rustic below a totalitarian government, detailing the rigors of a tough sport like gymnastics and indicates us how truth may have so many versions. Coincidentally, my previous couple of books has been sport-related. Like the Manchester United footballer’s autobiography, I am Zlatan Ibrahimovic, which is brutally honest, as is to be expected. Brilliant Orange: The Neurotic Genius of Dutch Football by using David Winner is an older ebook that unravels the u. S . A .’s dominance in the sport in the nineteen seventies. Peter Oborne’s Wounded Tiger: A History of Cricket in Pakistan is a great nostalgic journey and solutions that everlasting question: How did Javed Miandad play beneath Imran Khan with out rebelling?
A cinematic e-book is The Boys inside the Boat by way of Daniel James Brown, that is the proper tale of the University of Washington rowing crew that received a gold medal at the 1936 Olympics—watched by way of Hitler. Not extraordinarily, the rights to produce a movie were bought by way of a first-rate Hollywood studio, in line with news reviews. One of the maximum entertaining books you will locate is Andre Agassi’s Open, a sincere, brisk autobiography of a witty and interesting tennis player. Nick Hornby’s a whole lot-acclaimed memoir Fever Pitch—which has when you consider that its launch in the early 1990s grow to be conventional—gave a start to a generation of Arsenal fanatics. The over a decade-vintage Mumbai marathon has produced a generation of runners, and wannabe runners, in Mumbai as a minimum. I become one in all them a few years ago and found, continuously, books which can be most encouraged. One is the charming Born to Run: The Hidden Tribe, the Ultra-Runners, and the Greatest Race the World Has Ever Seen with the aid of Christopher McDougall. I am reminded of the ebook whenever (befell extra than once) I see actor-became-full-time runner Milind Soman pounding at the chaotic streets of Mumbai on steaming afternoons, running barefoot. The other is the extra reflective What I Talk About When I Talk About Running through Haruki Murakami. He makes you experience like getting up and placing off for a run right then, ideally whilst persevering with to study.
The moment you Google a listing of incredible sports books or ask for hints, a few names crop up robotically. Some of them are Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game by means of Michael Lewis (no longer study it, but I actually have seen the film); Sports Gene: Inside the Science of Extraordinary Athletic Performance by means of David Epstein (in ownership, but yet to begin); and the award-triumphing ebook on Muhammed Ali called King of the World by using David Remnick. All this studies and “Facebooking” has given me a few stable hints for the next few months (or years). These at the moment are brought to my Amazon/Flipkart wishlists—it does not always suggest I will buy them but lets in for the choice of getting some as presents. They encompass Jon Krakauer’s actual tale of an Everest expedition Into Thin Air; A Good Walk Spoiled through John Feinstein on golf; some other award-winning biography Barbarian Days: A Surfing Life via William Finnegan; and Futebol: The Brazilian Way of Life by Alex Bellos.
Upon a relative’s insistence—she has requested me numerous instances if I even have examined these—I am also considering books on Nike—Shoe Dog: A Memoir by using the Creator of Nike via Phil Knight and Swoosh: Unauthorized Story of Nike and the Men Who Played There by using J.B. Strasser—and Sneaker Wars: The Enemy Brothers Who Founded Adidas and Puma and The Family Feud That Forever Changed the Business of Sports by Barbara Smit. The flipside of getting a virtual wishlist, though, is that you add to it recklessly. I even have had String Theory: David Foster Wallace on Tennis in my listing for 3 years now—it’s long past thus far down that I don’t see it anymore. Frank Brady’s Endgame is accumulating dirt in our bookshelf—now not intentionally, of course. I was magnetically pulled toward the ebook—it lines the upward push and fall of the enigmatic chess champion Bobby Fischer—after analyzing its evaluation with the aid of Garry Kasparov some years ago. I will get thru them, at some point. What sums up my reading is a small, approximately ninety-page, e-book I bought in 2012 and also have now not study. It’s called Don’t Buy This Book Now! The Art of Procrastination by way of John Perry. But allow’s live fine. Summer’s simply all started—there’s plenty of warm wearing movement but to come. In between that movement, maybe a touch reading can assist inspire—genuine existence tales of valor can be so much extra uplifting than fiction or Marvel Studio releases. Like me, you can make up for the dearth of carrying skills with the aid of analyzing approximately others who have an abundance of it. Maybe there are a few suggestions here to get commenced with.
Letter From… Is Mint on Sunday’s antidote to boring editor’s columns. Each week, one in every of our editors—Sidin Vadukut in London and Arun Janardhan in Mumbai—will ship dispatches on places, humans, and institutions which can be really worth ruminating about at the weekend.
