for fandom, preferably the marauders fandom if that's alright- i have recently been sucked into the marauders fandom due to a friend(i did not expect this much angst-), now onto some info about myself. i am an intp and a libra, currently taking psychology, who also does art from time to time- but for the most part i am a cosplayer. i read, occasionally, and it's always either a really dark novel or a light-hearted romance. my hogwarts house is slytherin, which people say are a half surprised and half expected, because i try not to get too confrontational but when i am- i get too brutally honest and make sure my opinion and thoughts are clear. i can also be a teeny bit petty at times, and i've been known to somehow always get what i want- i am a big big big hopeless romantic, and i pretty much spoil my friends by buying them flowers or writing letters to them almost everyday because that's my love language. when people first meet me, i am very cold and distant which intimidates most people but once i feel comfortable around someone i get pretty loud and clingy. my aesthetic, in the best words that i could put it in, is the grungy rockstar gf aesthetic.

I don't think MBTI is a complete hoax. Brains do differ, and it's possible to divide them into categories. Naturally, any classification will be pretty loose. An MBTI type doesn't describe an individual fully, just explains what the brain of this person prioritizes, how it deals with the information, and so on. However, there is no "species" as a unit of life in reality, biologists still find this term very useful.

I do not trust the online tests though: they are too short with bad questions. As well as people self-identifying (biased and don't really know themselves) or others trying to do it looking at the "vibe" (easy to be mistaken).

I adore your fics! You've made me fall in love with Draco. I'm still not over him casually withdrawing a small fortune in Alley Cat (and being totally cool with Tom stealing it. Iconic).

I noticed in your profile that you identify as an INTJ. I'm both a Tom Riddle/Voldemort and MBTI enthusiast, so I'm curious whether you interpret him as an INTJ? (I generally do, but, as ever, the Internet seems divided).

INTJ vs ENTJ is a debate my housemate and I have had many times and, to be honest, I am also conflicted lol. I'm not sure of what other interpretations there are out there. I'm open to anything so long as I can see how the writer has gotten there from canon.

From a function perspective — Tom really gives Te-dom to me. He's decisive, ruthless and devoid of self-doubt. There's a clear logic to many of his decisions, yet also a brazenness that I wouldn't expect to see from a Ni-dom. I reckon as an INTJ he wouldn't have made half the choices he made because he would've spent enough time thinking them through to decide they were stupid decisions.

There is also a certain physicality and restlessness to Tom. While I do believe he is something of a knowledge sponge, I don't think he would ever be content with a life based purely in theory and research. He isn't interested in knowledge for knowledge's sake (though perhaps this is more of an INTP vs xNTJ argument). The things Tom wants to learn are things that he can use to further his goals and make himself more powerful. Additionally, Tom is definitely an inferior Fi. I don't think he'd recognise a moral compass if he was clobbered over the head with one.

All that being said, do I write an ENTJ Tom? No, he's an INTJ lol. This is partly because I write an ESFJ Draco (and firmly believe that is his type in canon too) and really enjoy writing the interplay between such an external, people-focused FeSi and an internal, intellectual and misanthropic NiTe. That's just a writing decision 😂

I’ve been a reader of your blog for a long time, since 2014 or so. Back in the day, I think your impression was that I was an ENTP. I’ve personally gone between INTP and ENTP over the years, eventually concluding that Fe is more of my weakness than Si.

Given how withdrawn you are, I would agree with inferior Fe. ENTPs never want to withdraw that completely from other people and/or be left alone. They still want and need interaction and to be around other people.

I’ve been into enneagram almost as long as MBTI, and I’ve always identified a lot with 5, 4, and 8. I see myself as someone with a big need for privacy [..] I’ve been going with 5w4 as my type (548 tritype), but something about it feels a touch off, like it’s missing something...

Reading what you sent, nothing jumped out at me enormously, but I do wonder if there’s a super-ego fix or wing somewhere in your tritype, since it seems like you worry about taking advantage of people and see that as something wrong and/or potentially ‘evil’ within yourself. Seeing how you could exploit a situation, refraining from it, and judging yourself in a sense for having thought about it. Which makes me wonder if you might have a 6 wing instead of a 4, but a 4 fix. (I am not great with identifying fixes unless they are very visible, and all I sense from you is assertiveness coming behind withdrawn energy.) Some of your dislike of people going along with things could also be 6ish. 6s also do not want to be basic and enjoy not being like other people -- but the difference is their pride comes from not BEING like other people, whereas for a 4, it’s an open wound oozing about how the 5w4 can never “truly fit in” or is “broken beyond repair.” So you may need to dig into your wing and see whether being anti-authoritarian is just 5 by itself, if it’s coming from 5-8 (are you double-rejection?), or if there’s 6 energy mixed into it (distrust authority, rebel against it).

There’s also some positive energy coming from somewhere. Don’t let the color be sucked out of life, change it, get what you want, want something better for yourself, life can be so much better! That’s a lot of optimism and pursuit of happiness for three negative fixes! You also want fun and humor. Making people laugh, broadening things through fun, taking down their defenses with liveliness. Is this just coming from your 5′s line to 7? Or is there a positive fix in there?

Have you explored other potential 5-leading tritypes? Such as 539? Etc. If a tritype doesn’t seem right, it’s okay to explore other alternatives and to stay open to any possible combination. After a while, something will usually click into place and it becomes easier to see, but you have to get to know your lines first.

I mainly write on Wattpad, but since I don't want my Wattpad account to appear cluttered with my ramblings and shenanigans, I'll dump a lot of my work on this app, so be prepared for that!

I'm 5'4 and I go by any pronouns but prefer they/them, I currently identify as non binary. My MBTI is INTP and my enneagram is 6w5, I'm quite pale and slim, I have black hair that's kind of styled into a wolfcut. My friends describe me as hardworking, calm and collected, but they also mention that I'm funny and nice. They also often say that I have a tendency to tease or be playful and I have a soft spot for animals ( they normally call me the rich mom friend lol ).

But I also have some flaws that I don't really talk about to anyone, I get quite anxious when I'm in social situations and I tend to become moody at random times, causing me to lash out on people when I'm stressed. Aside from that, I also overthink too much over the smallest things and I sometimes get insecure about my appearance, specifically my thighs and chest.

When it comes to hobbies I enjoy drawing/sketching and playing games, specifically rhythm games and rpg games ! But sometimes I also enjoy reading and cooking or any sort of sport like softball !

Hi. 5w4 here, wanted to talk about the “contradictions” section.

I identify as an INFP in MBTI predominantly, and observe in myself a lot of the behaviors of INTP without relating to the function stack.

When I say that I’m an INFP (or INxP, preferably) I’m mostly talking about the archetype and attempting to communicate a generalization of my personality in four individual letters. The ramifications of “INxP” is that that typing’s function stacks become invalid. But honestly, I think MBTI function stacks are - quite plainly - bullshit due to the general inaccuracy of the theory in its application to each individual human.

When I test my function stacks individually, they do not align with any of the pre-designed stacks of any type, let alone INFP or INTP. Mine also breaks the rules regarding I/E structure. Most people I have met who have done further research into their personal function stacks outside what is prescribed by type have had similar experiences.

MBTI enforces arbitrary rules on which function stacks are permitted, and there appears to be a substantial lack of a sound model to justify them.

Hence, seeing as MBTI is baseline illogical (or more kindly, a semi-useful tool for self-understanding and exploration not meant to be taken in a scientific, technical, and rigid way) I don’t think it’s wise to align MBTI with Enneagram as a quantifier for your Enneatype. They are different tests that measure different things. (Although I do agree that it would be very strange for an extrovert to be an e5.)

The Enneagram focuses on people's motivations, fears, and weak spots, while the MBTI focuses on the way people interact and perceive the world. “Divergent” typing matchups are highly statistically probable.

However, if we were to still combine the two differing typing systems, an INFP could certainly be an e5.

The difference lies in the approach of a 5 vs a 4.

Keeping in mind Fi = “emotional logic, compartmentalizes, internalizes/interprets outside stimulation” Fi ≠ “emotional crybaby, melodramatic, hyper senswitive owo”

An INFP 4 often wraps their aesthetic around the mood it creates, because while colors and shapes (for example) may not affect others substantially, the Fi-user has a noticeable emotional reaction.

As a 5, Fi is utilized to sort experiences, and come up with conclusions about the big picture. Observing one’s emotions and then sorting them in the head. While still having strong emotions, they don’t act as impulsively on them, seeing themselves as a sort of human specimen. They muse why exactly something is, and explore various possibilities.

An INFP 5w4 would think less “I love experiencing emotions because they make me feel free and authentic” (4) and more of “I love(?) experiencing emotions because they give me data points to study myself.” (5)

TL;DR:

- MBTI and Enneagram should not be used to quantify the validity of each other, seeing as they are different tests used to measure different things. It is perfectly valid to have an MBTI type that does not “align” with your Enneagram type.

- MBTI function stacks are bullshit and usually aren’t accurate in regards to the majority of people. You can be an INxP if you struggle to relate to just either F or T and feel more in the middle, as pre-made function stacks aren’t applicable most of the time anyway.

- An INFP e5 most certainly can exist, and is (non-surprisingly) pretty easy to find. Hence, the “contradiction” list is not something that should give you too much pause in deciding your Enneatype.

Enneatype 5 summarised!!

Core type-  Passion: avarice. E5s are cautious and value anonymity with what they share in order to maintain the peace and calmness they worked hard to achieve. They need this space to consume information about the world without having to participate in it. Fixation: stinginess. They have a huge thirst for knowledge, usually this will accompany knowledge on how to strategically control their environment. Trap: observer. The e5s fascination with the world comes from a place of anxiety. They want to know everything about life while refusing to really live it. Defence mechanism: isolation. To avoid emptiness and keep their self image of being knowledgeable, they isolate themselves from any painful or intense emotions. Instead they want to focus on their knowledge in hope to completely remove these thoughts. Virtue: detachment. To relieve themselves from their isolation, they will need to detach from their hiding place, experience the world and let go of the anonymity they so crave.  Key traits: The centrality of thinking, emotional detachment and feelinglessness, fear of engulfment, autonomy and self-sufficiency, hypersensitivity.

Subtypes-  Self preservation [sp]: Sp5s build clear walls around themselves to protect their safe space. They have a strong need for things like boundaries and dislike surprises and intrusions. Once they feel as though these boundaries are crossed, they rely on their safe space to retreat to. They generally strongly value control. Sexual [sx]: Sx5s are often more artistic than the other subtypes. They want to find the perfect partner they can share every part of themselves with. Even the parts they’ve suppressed for a long time. Because of this, they are often disappointed in the people they trusted in to be like this perfect person for them. Social [so]: So5s have this same desire to be able to share their ideas and thoughts with others, but this is much more group focused for them. They want to find people who they share interests with and bring them together. They are more obvious in their search for knowledge, but focus less on truly shutting themselves off.

Contradictions-  ESFJ, ENFJ, ESFP, ENFP, ENTP, ESTP, ESTJ, ENTJ, ISFP, INFP, ISFJ The main contradiction in e5 is extroversion. E5 is a very reclusive type, they tend to observe instead of participate and try. This contradicts with the inherent external involvement of any cognitively extroverted type. The second is partially the feeling dichotomy, this is due to their emotional isolation. The sensation dichotomy is also considered to be debatable due to e5s abstract thought process.  Types you might want to look into if you are on this list are e3, e4, e6, e7 and e9.

Compatible types- Self preservation: ISTP, INTP, ISTJ, INTJ Sexual: INFJ, INTP, INTJ Social: INTP, INTJ

similarities & difference i noticed (but i'm kinda lazy to cite): love to play with or break structures or rules, can be a good follower or leader, depending on the situation, they seem like the punctual type, the STJ seems strict while the opposite functions, NFP, can be pretty relax and chill, but both have a structure they prefer, follow and lead themselves and others. Both seem the kinds to either LOVE plans, or HATE plans, but they heavily depend on the situations. STJ more impatience than NFP, NFP looks more welcoming but in actuality both are pretty reserved with strangers. So right off the bat, I'll say that getting into the individual cognitive functions is way over my head. I always really struggled with that part of MBTI which is a part of the reason why I never took it farther. Another reason is that I feel when you get too deep in the weeds with MBTI, the types start to become like molds or boxes that others think dictate how a person should and will act in every occasion, which just isn't the case (not saying that this is what you've done or anything; just a reason why I can't have deep conversations on it).

Aa an example, I've always tested as an INFP, and I identify pretty well with the general profiles about INFPs. However, this paragraph that you wrote for Rika an Aydin:

Everything here can be said about me. Now, I don't know if that's because the we have some similar cognitive functions or if it's just those traits are so general that they can't really be applied to more than just a few types. I also believe that everything in MBTI is on a spectrum, and nobody is 100% one thing or another, and we all have shadow functions that come into play at some point.

For the most part, I see MBTI as a way to get the general sense of the characters. It's a fun game, too, and as we have seen, very funny for discussions. But for me, that's about as far as I can take it.

I think it would be very interesting to get the takes of other people who also know about MBTI.

I really wish I did understand better so I had a better response for you! But unfortunately, like I said, it just read down the list on mbti notes and went with my gut. Briefly reviewing the functions, I see why I went with ESFP for Winter, but again, I have a very surface level of understanding and am only reading the notes to see what lines up with my impression of Winter. Inferior Ni still makes a lot of sense to me.

BUT! I'm in no way an authority and am not going to force anyone to see things my way. If ISFP makes more sense to you. Personally, after reviewing both functions, I can see it both ways and was probably on the fence. Like I said, Dom Se and Inf Ni just make a lot of sense to me.

And I never bothered to type Alex, so I'm really of not help here. Whoops.

I will clarify in case this is causing an issue in my view of the characters, but when I typed them I found myself gravitating towards the "unhealthy" or "immature" versions of the functions, and that made sense because... you know. the characters that we're dealing with are probably not the healthiest representations of their type...

that being said -

but what do you think of damon's? Just like winter, idk much about him because intially i thought he was INFJ, but now, i honestly dk anymore.

So, it would take me a minute to go back over all the functions to see if something else aligns better with Damon. It might be beneficial considering the new information we just go with the bonus chapter. But over all, "Immature" Ti still fit really well to me, although it could overlap with Te.

Dom Te - I'll bold the parts that I thought I saw in Damon through the first part of the series and especially in Kill Switch.

"Immature IxTPs suffer the negative aspects of Ti due to an overly reductive attitude, unable/unwilling to process information that doesn’t “make sense” to them, perhaps becoming blind to important factors that should be taken into consideration. They might exhibit problematic traits such as: disinterest, indifference, apathy, dismissiveness, obliviousness, small-mindedness, arrogance."

Inf Fe -

Signs of dominant Ti extremes:

emotionally unavailable

critical or antagonistic

selfish and stingy attitude

very shallow relationships

doesn’t recognize social obligations

Loss of normal and healthy dominant Ti functioning:

I feel strangely confused or can’t think straight.

I am unable to make sense of the problem(s) facing me.

I don’t know why I am doing the negative/obnoxious things I do.

Examples of out of character inferior Fe grip tendencies:

I am uncool, awkward, unconfident, “not myself”.

I can’t help feeling strangely guilty, ashamed, unsure, inadequate.

I am more inclined to seek affirmation, approval, agreement.

I can’t brush off things that I usually don’t think/care about.

I am saddened/startled by how inept I am at caring for others.

I am suddenly very bothered about feeling alienated.

I go out of my way to provoke/get attention from a particular person.

I suddenly escalate arguments or get caught up in drama.

I irrationally suspect/accuse people of trying to manipulate/control me.

Aux Se:

selfish and impulsive, does whatever one wants easily addicted to

physical/sensory stimulation tries anything just to feel “alive” and “high” evades consequences;

leaves a trail of destruction

wants immediate gratification; angry when thwarted

I highlighted all of that, so it might be where I started with Damon, because it fit cleanly with my impression of him. However, this is a general description of an underdeveloped Se.

easygoing and carefree yet grounded and pragmatic

fun-loving attitude but doesn’t seek pleasure merely out of boredom

keeps productive by committing to hands on, skill building activities

faces facts; addresses flaws/weaknesses/mistakes very honestly

observant of consequences of healthy/unhealthy gratification

And this looks more like the grown, father version of Damon we get in the epilogue/Fire Night

Brining us to Ter Ni

Because this is lower in the stack than Se, and we're looking at an unhealthy version of Damon, chronic Se underdevelopment include:

a sullen, blank, or withdrawn attitude

abnormal/repetitive desire for physical pleasure

lack of commitment; resists new experiences - Damon will do most anything as long as his friends are doing it, but he doesn't do it for the new experience and probably wouldn't part take unless the others were there;

excessively limited/literal/one-sided view of facts

unproductive; only cares about instant gratification

and

Common Ni loop tendencies / Signs of Ni loop:

can’t see that lack of will and commitment causes restlessness

disengaged; never acts to change problematic situations

drifts through life with no regard for/awareness of rules and conventions

irrationally paranoid about being trapped/confined/controlled

uses “alternative” lifestyle to immaturely express independence/individuality

believes in nonsense “mystical” signs/intuitions about how to live life

self-defeating; unable/unwilling to have faith in anything or anyone

derisive, fatalistic, only envisions (and believes in) negative/empty outcomes 

There might another type that fits better, and my impression of Damon might be off. I'm really just going with my gut and best estimated guess here, but I did give my typing an honest effort and thought. I'm still very open to hearing alternatives!

I think understanding personality types can help with understanding how people gather information and communicate it. Really still fuzzy on how the position of the function effects all of that, but it sounds like you have a good lock on it. You should do character profiles! With references and stuff. I'm sure so many people would find it interesting and helpful.
