AA THANK YOUU ^__^ !! textures & brushwork are my favorite things abt my art, so im happy you find it interesting hehe . its SOO cool to look at & so much fun to draw imo

i prefer to color by building in layers , if that makes sense 🤔!! hundreds of them !! such that i'm always drawing on Top of previous layers, working from big & messy blocks of color to, eventually, small and refined blocks of color until it feels processed enough. as a result, i rarely ever erase (!!) and i rarely ever draw lineart aside from the initial sketch

a rough, patchy textured brush is key here, as it'll give you dimension and variability w/ your colors. i recommend "Brush and various sets of fountain pen style (万年筆風ブラシと色々セット)" on Clip Studio (ID: 1679706) !! :3

im terrible with explanations though, so i'm going to show a step by step of that elendira drawing if you dont mind :3

sketch layer !! because i mostly render through color alone, i try to make this as close to the finished thing as possible . ^__^ i hateee drawing the same thing over and over and like the expressivity and movement of my sketches anyways , so the more i can preserve at this step, the better. if u were to look at a side by side of my sketches and finished pieces, youd notice a lot of those og lines are present in the final drawing :3

2. flats !! pretty self explanatory, but the solid background gives me an idea of where the figure begins & ends while the colors themselves help distinguish whats what . i stick to ambient lighting @ this point because im usually not sure what i want to do with the overall palette or lighting yet . having two tones (ex, dark and light in her hair or dark and light on her skin) can also help in identifying key features early on that u wanna preserve. as you build layer by layer, sometimes these areas will remain untouched and i think it makes for a rly lovely feel at the end

3. start blocking !!! to be totally honest with you, i dont really know what i do here HAHAHA. like i just scribble the shit out of it, usually focusing on what i might want to do with lighting (ex: grey areas to accentuate folds in her costume). i think i like to start "erasing" the sketch where possible by coloring on top of it .. like if you look at her hat or her arm , you can tell i'm starting to get a sense of the shapes i like vs the ones i dont. it's at this point that the final image starts to emerge in my mind , like im gradually pulling her from a tarpit of scribbles until shes recognizable lol. chipping away at the marble until i can free her. tbh.

4. keep blockingg...when u think u are done , block some more . as you can probably see, the brushwork becomes more intentional as i add more shape, with specific focus on line weight. this is also where the patchiness of that textured brush comes in - notice how none of the colors seem totally uniform (ex: the red cross or the original sketchlines for her waist). you can see bits and pieces of the layers underneath pushing through and i really like that !! ^__^ its very fun and sketchy to me, so i try to keep them around. those areas are also great to colorpick from, because it'll give you "new" colors to work w/ that are already part of your palette.

5. GRADIENTS & GRADIENT MAPS !! TONE CURVE !! COLOR PICKER !! this is the best stage tbh. flatten your image so its all on one layer and just go crazy with all the color settings in ur program. add gradient layers and set them to darken, or overlay, or subtract, orrr. lighten or dodge glow or divide or soft/hard light.! OR!! edit the hue, saturation, luminosity and contrast.and then color pick from these edits, block even more on top of ur image, flatten, color edit again, etc. etc. until u feel satisfied.

ANYWAYSS . i hope that makes sense @__@ sry i wrote this out and deleted it like 23 times trying to make it make More sense but thats what ive got HAHA i hope its useful though :3 !

Slowly but surely, Raymond Reddington has been leaving things at your apartment. The first was a now empty suitcase. He asked you to take it because he needed to move out of one safe house and wouldn’t be able to get into the next one for the whole day. Nursing your massive crush on him, you agreed, but not before going through the suitcase in front of him to make sure it was just clothes and nothing illegal. 

As your relationship evolved, so have the items he leaves at yours. He’s left a few white T-shirts in case he stays over, munis the one you took for yourself. There is a full suit perpetually hanging in the back of your closet, tucked away in its own bag. He even left a French press in your kitchen so he can enjoy his coffee at yours. Reddington nodded, understanding but you could also see the disappointment on his face. 

You push your seat out while standing, needing to pace while on the phone. 

“I know you’re on a date, and you were really looking forward to it, but we need you. The calls are too much for one person and uhh….” Aram’s voice trails off as the line goes mute. 

You know that you’re going to ditch your date to go to work, but you can still feel bad about it. You spin on your feet to face Reddington and tell him the bad news but catch sight of Dembe striding across the restaurant with his phone in hand. 

Aram rejoined your phone call. “And Rickey’s dead.” 

Rickey is someone low in Reddington's criminal operation, who is also working with someone on the blacklist, selling secrets to them. Reddington was feeding Ricky false information in hopes it would draw out the blacklister. 

“He's dead?!” you repeat, before putting your phone on mute to fill Reddington in. 

“Your man Ricky’s dead!” You tell him, still in disbelief.

Both Dembe and Reddington look at you like you grew a second head. 

“He's not dead, he has been arrested,” Dembe informs you. 

Now it was your turn to stare at them. 

“Hello? Are you still there? Helloooo.” Aram's voice got your attention. You unmute him. 

“Yeah, sorry. I’m on my way.” You reply before handing up the call. The restaurant was close to the Post Office, it would be faster to walk than to try and get your coat and have Reddington drive you. 

“I’m so sorry, I need to go, Aram thinks he's dead, but needs help figuring out where, or why or something.” You ramble on trying to get your brain to catch up. 

“Can I at least offer a ride?” Reddington asks. He knows he won’t be able to talk you back into continuing the date.

You wave him off. 

“It's faster if I walk. I’m so sorry” you apologize for the third time. 

“Sweetheart, it's raining, please.” He implores.

“I gotta go.”  

With your phone in your hand, you blindly felt around under the table for your bag. 

“It's raining.” 

“It’s just water,” you argued back. 

“At least take the jacket, please.”

The Ricky hunt was not going well. No one had a clear lead, and with you taking hospital and morgues, Aram calling police stations, even Reddington (sans suit jacket) and Dembe came into call any criminal contacts who may know. 

Aram was blessed with the winning phone call. Ricky was indeed arrested and then bailed out by the blacklister, giving the team a lead. More importantly, it gave you the freedom to salvage what was left of your date. 

Dembe already left to start the car but to also give you and Red some space. 

“You look lovely tonight. Any special occasion?” He asked while following you to one of the hallways in the post office.

“Think it's salvageable?” 

You pretended to think it over while the elevator doors closed.

i feel like an everpresent topic ive had on my mind especially often for the last year is kindness. there's a multitude of things i could say, whether that's bashing people for lacking it, or get all teary over how beautiful it is (which!! it is!!!) but i think what ive recently discovered is that it's my only constant :3 when everything else goes wrong, that's all i have, and im really happy it's second nature to me (altho im still actively working on making myself better!!!!)

but yea, kasi i started REALLY watching nba games im pretty young pa around 7 or 8 years old so me being THIS loud about basketball is really just... idk it's ‘organic’ siguro. i have nothing to tell u about how i rlly got into this kasi it's really just me and games, i just analyze the numbers and know the players din, ig???

pero i got really addicted to it when i started reading fanfics on ao3 so that's pretty much it WHAAJHAJAHA ayon lang ‘yong journey ko. pero i can suggest siguro na you can watch those longass hours-long nba documentation videos available on youtube (because that helped me a lot knowing the mavs) either with the official nba channel or i highly suggests random channels about the team you want to explore the most!

pero for starters, parang hierarchy ang nba teams(this is in terms of placing, championship appearances): mavericks, celtics, thunder, timberwolves, knicks (siguro??? because of villanova bros) ang contenders (imho based on what i saw this last nba finals, offseason), pistons and hornets naman ang medyo nasa lower part.

may debate between who's the nba goat na obv michael jordan vs lebron james... i might fight u on that... JK!

a huge percentage of twitter users also helped me knowing a lot about players. twitter posts are really a must go if you want to know more about how your favorite player plays, if he's goated or washed, or anything. it's really a variety in there, i just hope you don't see toxic accounts. speaking of which, nbacentel is also a twitter account that makes SATIRICAL tweets about players. it might seem real, but it's not.

more about them through pms na lang here because YAHHHH i can't put them all here. pero what i'll discuss to you through messages are: kd's burner account, josh giddey, the fucked up gsw franchise, lebron and kyrie, how luka might be the best nba player from this decade, and many more.

ALSO. don't worry, i've encountered a lot of casuals already and i'm good with talking to them. i just hated most of those people because yeah they're the same people who called klay “washed” because of a single game. the same people who hate and laugh at kyrie. the same people who dickride lebron I MEAN YEAH all of the things i hate, they're doing it. but since you're here, i'm afraid you're not a casual anymore!!!

any suggestions on how to start editing comic panels? your character edits are super nice, I love the wanda one. i only use photoshop but I can't seem to make anything that aestheticly pleasing when I have tried making them. any tips would be appreciated!

soooo, to me, a lot of it is just training your eye to see a good balance between minimalist panels nd panels with a lot going on/panels with typography vs panels with characters (ive been doing comic gfx for like 7 years now i think and i still find ways to improve my eye for composition and aesthetics)

i like to zoom all the way out of a page to simply look at the composition and place the panels how it looks the most cohesive for me, if i dont like the composition i go back and tweak panels until it suits me

another point is referencing previous panels you did so that you can go back to the colours.

for individual panels,, i have specific graphic design inspiration boards that i like to reference and sometimes just recreate.

i feel like what really makes or breaks how 'pretty' an edit looks is your attention to details (for example when cutting a character from the panel) so id invest in learning how pen tool works (which rlly isnt hard at all, its just maybe tedious to cut the characters out like that)

lastly, textures, fonts and the occasional psd effect are sooo helpful in making your panels look more exciting and aesthetically pleasing.

The past year or so's been a wild ride for me in many ways but something particularly special happened to me, and that's gaining extremely talented, warm, and encouraging new friends along the way. I've been on spnblr for over a decade (a feat in itself 🥲), but haven't felt like a true part of the community until recently, and I have my friends to thank for that! Many of whom are very talented, mostly self-taught (!!!!!) editors in their own right!! I've loved editing for as long as I can remember and always jump at the chance to celebrate editing as a craft as much as I can because.... well! I don't think enough people do! The spn amv editor community truly has kept the magic alive, celebrating characters, relationships and the heart of a show that a whole lot of people simply cant help but love through the use of music and video.

writing editing is hard! a lot of people in this community picked up editing for the first time only a year or two ago and that's INSANE to me! editing takes real time, energy and dedication, and instead of making my birthday about me this year, I wanted to celebrate amv editors. so for AUGUST 24 + 25, id like to celebrate you by boosting 2 of your edits: your VERY FIRST amv as well as the edit you're most proud of !! more info + rules under the cut :) i cant wait to celebrate everyone's amvs, and hope u join me!! ⇩⇩⇩
